Anyway *slightly* more serious matters. . . this comes with the context of I have never watched a thirst video cause it feels 110% cringe to me personally. But am I out of line thinking this campaign feels like the equivalent of a construction worker catcalling a woman and demanding that she smile for them? Isn't this supposed to be an insulting thing society should move past? Are there people that genuinely enjoy reading the over the top NSFW comments they're tagged in? Do they ever campaign for/ask actresses or is it only actors? Why is this in general an okay thing to do? Am I just missing the whole point or something or am I just old?

Very off topic, but does anyone else think Rob was blacklisted after supporting Chloe re: the abuse she endured while she was with Chris Hardwick? Which means be as silent and bland and boring as possible to be as uncontroversial as possible so you don't ever alienate or offend anyone. It keeps your potential fanbase as large as possible but doesn't specifically draw anyone into it. R48 It seems from what was reported by Chloe and Rob that Chloe was backlisted which Rob verified and as Rob stood up for Chloe at the time as advocate and boyfriend of Chloe then it seems to me that he was/is blacklisted too which I would think he was prepared for to speak out so openly about what happened to Chloe.

It also brought up Robs own dirty laundry which he had to publically address and apologise for, past issues with mis-treating women.

R50 I don’t think you have to be well-known to be blacklisted, someone powerful has to have a grudge against you. Rob called Hardwick out directly on Twitter several times at the height of it in 2018, which I doubt went down well, considering Chris has a good amount of pull in the nerd corner of the industry. Plus, I don’t think a VFX god necessarily has any pull in the casting dept and with execs.

I do think it’s weird that Ben never really spoke up about Chloe’s claims, if I recall correctly he never commented on it or showed public support. I know we’re all inclined to believe that Ben didn't care, but I’m leaning towards, it’s hard to call out powerful people in any industry without facing major career repercussions. I could be completely wrong, of course.

R56 I think you’re right, plus I do think there was mild naïveté on Chloe and Rob’s part. I did a deep dive this past week (bored + curious) and I don’t think Rob considered how much that previous allegation would harm him in the sphere of public opinion (him and Chloe got *a lot* of Twitter abuse at that time, with Rob’s past being a huge talking point for the Hardwick fans). I dove into a few Rob interviews (hoping to also find some Ben content, no dice), and in one podcast he said the woman he sent dick pics to was also sending him naked pictures of herself, but she managed to weaponize his against him 🤷 I do wonder if that aspect of his past coming to light also got studios to stop working with him.

I went off into this deep dive because I remembered Rob worked with Guillermo Del Torro in Pacific Rim. Here’s hoping Ben can put Rob’s name back in GDT’s ear?

R57 and R58 well said and at the time of the allegations being public Hardwick was already married into a powerful media/publishing Hollywood Hearst family who backed Hardwick up and I believe would be the gears behind the blacklisting of Chloe and Rob.

They most likely dug up dirt on Rob and prob blackmailed Chloe as she stood down from taking the allegations further or speaking about it. Its the old trick in the book smear and dirt digging to discredit claims and shut down conversations. I like to think Rob would have been ready to talk about his past publicised indiscretions in the UK if he's publically speaking up against someone with deep connections in media who has done worse.

It is interesting to see what happens in these circumstances and the line people chose to cross when being public about a point of view or staying silent. There are different ways of supporting people and causes while minimising backlash and repercussions.

R59 in my morning brain fog, I COMPLETELY forgot about the Hearst connection, which absolutely made it a David and Goliath situation for anyone going up against Chris, which might hint at why Ben never spoke up.

A few years ago, my boss said something racist about a coworker of mine, and I told her HR would be hearing from me, and she threatened to make sure I was unemployable in my field. This is the medical field, and I knew she had very little clout in it, so I went ahead and reported her (of course HR took her side because that’s what HR does, but I’m still gainfully employed in the field, thankfully). I can’t imagine what it would’ve been like if I were dealing with much bigger fish, I honestly wouldn’t have spoken up out of fear. The whole system of money+power is pretty effed up

So I don’t like the kind of music Benny Boy is doing. It’s not my cup of tea just because and also cuz of my years long dislike of all Bublé like music. Seriously, at Christmas I just wish I could go back in time and prevent him from ever recording anything. Sure look I know some people like it but for me this kind of ventures are shallow, unimaginative and forgettable. And the instrumentals smell cheesy and have a nauseous effect on me.

As far as I'm aware EPs are cheaper and quicker to make and they gave the word out before the actual album, and the point of them is also that there's no need for making any concept or tell a story cuz it’s 5 tracks tops aka low effort. But for the love of all things spice, he said that music is his dream and now, the lack of real promotion and some more in depth (unless you count the inspo quotes?) comments about it seem to me as the EP is a product of a rich kid whose daddy paid for their weekends only pop star dream.

Still can’t get over the female pirate thing too. Can we expect the full LP to be nursery rhymes inspired? And I never expected him to make groundbreaking music but he gaves out bout that degree of his and how much shite he knows and what we get? So far all I can see is a white insta girl in early 20s who's also an industry plant wannabe (without the actual connections tho). But like he 40?

And a question. If it was discussed before then sorry again. It looks like the music is for his small fan circle specificaly right? Maybe he himself doesn't believe too much in it, or he's somehow embarrassed or considers it just a vanity project. I don't think he believes he can have the same career in music. Rightly so, since how many actors became successful as singers later too? Maybe Jared Leto, but I think music and acting were more or less going at the same pace, so not the same situation. I think it would be so obnoxious if he was aggressively promoting it more than he already is I don’t know why people expected him to. And I’m sure many people would be complaining if he was doing more. He’s an actor first and foremost and this is just a passion project for him just like the many little passion projects that came out of the pandemic when some people were lucky enough to have some extra time to work on something they otherwise wouldn’t have done maybe. If his music does well then great but if not it will just be like any other movie or show that doesn’t manage to do great he will just move onto the next one. He’s not trying to make music his whole career or is primary source of income so pouring the money into it to self record and publish and make a good music video is already beyond what other cross over musicians might be expected to do. So where is this spoiled rich kid assessment coming from unless you have info we don’t about his parents funding it instead of him? It looks like he used his own money that he earned from a (so far) moderately successful acting career to fund a passion project while still prioritizing his acting career first. This doesn’t seem as controversial as some people are making it out to be here. And of course his music isn’t going to fit all music tastes so those people just shouldn’t listen to it just like any other song that doesn’t fit someone’s taste.

Cast and zone A crew are usually required to be vaccinated and also have very regular testing and can be required to self isolate with a series of negative tests required if they traveled from a high risk area or had verifiable contact with an infected person. Production timelines often don’t account for weekends or long holiday weekends like Labor Day, but I think he’s also professional enough not to risk this opportunity on a long weekend home in LA for no reason especially if he would have had to get special permission for it or was expected to be on call for pre-production work. I could be wrong of course but logistically it doesn’t seem likely this close to production with how things are operating in covid times. And some of the announcements made a big deal about the GTD project being a fully Toronto based production so I don’t think he would be going to Vancouver unless it was S&B related

I think most people have probably dated someone that wasn’t good for them and/or adversely impacted their work/life priorities or another relationship at least for a time and it would suck to have that amplified to the point of impacting one of your dream projects in a very public way (although he continues to bring it on himself by continuing to have any contact with her). But I also am not 100% convinced all this liking and fan engagement and silly comments are a form of deflection as some others believe.
