Oops - Part 82.

by Anonymousreply 1June 29, 2021 4:58 PM

Shapo v. Kohlschreiber has gone to a fifth set.

by Anonymousreply 2June 29, 2021 5:06 PM

Thanks for rescuing us OP.

So, Gaydrian Vs Gramps. 1 set all and Gaydrian 45-2up in the third. Is Gramps on the way to be bundled out of the tournament?

by Anonymousreply 3June 29, 2021 5:07 PM

Shapo playing like a hothead. Needs to settle down.

by Anonymousreply 4June 29, 2021 5:08 PM

Mannarino letting Gramps back in it

by Anonymousreply 5June 29, 2021 5:28 PM

Thanks OP

by Anonymousreply 6June 29, 2021 5:49 PM

So sad for Mannarino. Always love an underdog.

by Anonymousreply 7June 29, 2021 5:50 PM

Nice jinx on Novaxx OP. Fingers crossed.

by Anonymousreply 8June 29, 2021 5:51 PM

Shapo defeats Kohl.

by Anonymousreply 9June 29, 2021 5:54 PM

Gramps gets a magic carpet ride to the next round

by Anonymousreply 10June 29, 2021 5:54 PM

Mannarino retires with injury against Federer.

by Anonymousreply 11June 29, 2021 5:55 PM

Poor Adrian. On his birthday, too. I suspect Mirka of voodoo.

by Anonymousreply 12June 29, 2021 6:01 PM

Is voodoo edible?

by Anonymousreply 13June 29, 2021 6:12 PM

Adrian is on our team too..I don't think he's hot or anything I just wanted him to win

by Anonymousreply 14June 29, 2021 6:47 PM

Always wondered about that, R14. Always seemed gay to me. And I think he's kinda hot. Hairy and French, yum.

by Anonymousreply 15June 29, 2021 6:48 PM

Bye SERENA

by Anonymousreply 16June 29, 2021 6:59 PM

OMG Serena out!

by Anonymousreply 17June 29, 2021 7:00 PM

fat cunt lost, not surprised.

by Anonymousreply 18June 29, 2021 7:01 PM

Time to retire.

by Anonymousreply 19June 29, 2021 7:03 PM

What happened to Serena? Was there drama?

by Anonymousreply 20June 29, 2021 7:03 PM

Serena - Sad last days!

by Anonymousreply 21June 29, 2021 7:03 PM

They're moving The UGOAT and Kygrios onto #1 Court in a bid to catch up. Please, please , please God, let Ugo win.

by Anonymousreply 22June 29, 2021 7:06 PM

Bye Ree, guess who's still in?

by Anonymousreply 23June 29, 2021 7:07 PM

I absolutely believe Mannarino was threatened by the AELTC. Prissy Queen MUST NOT be defeated in round 1, at all costs.

by Anonymousreply 24June 29, 2021 7:08 PM

Slipped, hurt her ankle, retired but she could barely move with heavy strapping anyway, she wasn't going to win this tournament either way.

by Anonymousreply 25June 29, 2021 7:09 PM

R14 btw, yes, always thought he was gay as well.

by Anonymousreply 26June 29, 2021 7:10 PM

Please Vee. We all know you'll bomb out in the next round so you don't overshadow your sister.

by Anonymousreply 27June 29, 2021 7:10 PM

Fucking lucky cunt Grampy Federina. Poor Mannarino.

by Anonymousreply 28June 29, 2021 7:10 PM

Serena will win the US Open!

by Anonymousreply 29June 29, 2021 7:11 PM

Poor Great Auntie Ree. Horrible way to crash out of the tournament. Why couldn't it have been Prissy Queen Fed losing instead?

I guess the media will now go overboard with the Gauff hype again.

by Anonymousreply 30June 29, 2021 7:12 PM

R29 It would be spectacular if that happens. Then she can go home for the rest of her life.

by Anonymousreply 31June 29, 2021 7:14 PM

Did the entire previous thread get deleted?

by Anonymousreply 32June 29, 2021 7:15 PM

Apparently, R32. What in the world triggered that?!

by Anonymousreply 33June 29, 2021 7:16 PM

Musetti lost. I hope Ugo wins to save the day (i doubt Alcaraz will play, or at least finish the match)

by Anonymousreply 34June 29, 2021 7:18 PM

Chrissie: "What if it had been both Serena and ROGER in the same day!"

by Anonymousreply 35June 29, 2021 7:27 PM

Well, I am the GOAT

by Anonymousreply 36June 29, 2021 7:29 PM

Even though Federer got through, he did not look good at all today. I don't think he'll get past the Round of 16.

There is actual tennis being played, and a good match, too, between Kyrgios and Umbert, but of course ESPN thinks we just want to hear their commentators jabber on and on about Serena. She got injured. She retired. Moving on.

by Anonymousreply 37June 29, 2021 7:33 PM

Two injuries within an hour or two.

by Anonymousreply 38June 29, 2021 7:33 PM

The No. 6 seed called it quits in her first-round matchup with Aliaksandra Sasnovich, in too much pain to continue after slipping and hurting her ankle during their first set.

Williams was seemingly uncomfortable moving laterally before collapsing during her third set with Sasnovich. She braced herself with her racket, willing herself to her feet and walked off the court in tears.

The legend was met with a standing ovation from the Wimbledon crowd, waving as she exited.

The match ended at three game apiece.

“Of course I’m so sad for Serena; she’s a great champion,” Sasnovich said. “It happens sometimes in tennis, but all the best for her and her recovery.”

by Anonymousreply 39June 29, 2021 7:35 PM

her ankles gave out, from supporting her fat ass.

by Anonymousreply 40June 29, 2021 7:35 PM

R37, you read my mind. There is actual play going on and they’re acting like there isn’t.

by Anonymousreply 41June 29, 2021 7:37 PM

THIS IS IT FOR SERENA. She'll retire before the start of the US Open, mark my words.

by Anonymousreply 42June 29, 2021 7:40 PM

This was really bad luck, but if she wants to have a chance to win another GS she needs to lose weight. It will make everything easier for her

by Anonymousreply 43June 29, 2021 7:42 PM

And will Chris Evert and that old asshole Cliff Drysdale STFU about Serena being the best ever??? Serena hasn't even tied Margaret Court's grand slam singles record. In regular tournaments Serena is far behind Graf, Navratilova and Evert. WHY do they continue with this drivel, their salaries depend on it?

by Anonymousreply 44June 29, 2021 7:46 PM

[quote]if she wants to have a chance to win another GS she needs to lose weight

if she wants to have a chance to win another GS she needs to lose ABOUT 15 YEARS

Serena turns 40 in September.

by Anonymousreply 45June 29, 2021 7:47 PM

Good news, R41. ESPN2 is showing the Kyrgios-Umbert match now.

by Anonymousreply 46June 29, 2021 7:50 PM

R45 Do you think that really matters on wta? On better form she could had won Roland Garros this year withot too much problem

by Anonymousreply 47June 29, 2021 7:52 PM

R33, there was an active thread on the Euros that got nuked too, at the same time. Is there a DL cabal that hates sports? Notice OP has already been grayed out, at least for me.

by Anonymousreply 48June 29, 2021 7:53 PM

Hmm. Other sports too? I was beginning to think someone’s team was trying to bring down our threads. Fed or Novak don’t want us bitching about them on a Gays and Tennis thread? 🤔

I originally typed butching instead of bitching and that couldn’t be more inaccurate. 😂

by Anonymousreply 49June 29, 2021 8:00 PM

Serena should have never played the French. She had no realistic shot to win anyway.

by Anonymousreply 50June 29, 2021 8:01 PM

...and I guess we know why Serena isn't playing Tokyo

What a bust. She lost a bunch of weight last year but has gained all of it back and then some. She's basically given up, hasn't she? It's sad to see.

by Anonymousreply 51June 29, 2021 8:02 PM

Lol and of course they had to blather about how Gauff is a favorite now

by Anonymousreply 52June 29, 2021 8:03 PM

Serena needs to get in better shape

by Anonymousreply 53June 29, 2021 8:07 PM

One set all between Ugoat and Kyrgios.

by Anonymousreply 54June 29, 2021 8:19 PM

Love the UGOAT. Such a battler.

by Anonymousreply 55June 29, 2021 8:21 PM

I hate Kyrgios with the heat of ten thousand suns. He is the biggest jerk on tour ever, even over Jimmy Connors, and that shouldn't be physically possible. I see that he spent the pandemic gaining weight and adding to his trashy tattoos. Figures. I hope Ugo makes him cry.

by Anonymousreply 56June 29, 2021 8:29 PM

R56 = Stanimal

by Anonymousreply 57June 29, 2021 8:32 PM

Oh, God, Krygrios has started chuntering. Hope his head's gone now.

by Anonymousreply 58June 29, 2021 8:40 PM

Hoang defeated Zhang.

I’m surprised none have commented on Feli’s defeat at the hand of Dan Evans.

by Anonymousreply 59June 29, 2021 8:49 PM

r58 WW for "chuntering".

by Anonymousreply 60June 29, 2021 8:52 PM

Oh, Mr. Drysdale!!

by Anonymousreply 61June 29, 2021 8:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 62June 29, 2021 8:59 PM

guess the US OPEN is out for her!

by Anonymousreply 63June 29, 2021 9:11 PM

I don’t think you have to do that if you are injured, R62.

by Anonymousreply 64June 29, 2021 9:13 PM

Krygrios is definitely a mental case.

Evert: You and me both!

R67, jeez, did Bitchy Chrissy really say that? Great great grandma Chrissy needs to lock up her dusty old cooch, seal it shut with superglue and stop talking about her love life. She is old enough to be Vee's mother or even grandmother. Why the fuck is she talking about herself when discussing Vee's love life?

by Anonymousreply 69June 29, 2021 9:37 PM

Roger is in London without his family and staying at the bubble hotel. Bet Cougar Chrissie is prowling those hallways.

by Anonymousreply 70June 29, 2021 9:41 PM

R69, only two things have ever mattered to Chrissy: tennis and dick.

by Anonymousreply 71June 29, 2021 9:42 PM

[quote]only two things have ever mattered to Chrissy: tennis and dick

a bitch after my own heart

by Anonymousreply 72June 29, 2021 9:43 PM

[quote]Do you think that really matters on wta? On better form she could had won Roland Garros this year withot too much problem

What does "on wta" mean, R47? Serena's old and pro tennis is a young person's game. She HAS NO FORM today, or she has HALF of the form she had 12 years ago. That's what goes when you get old. That's why she'll never win another grand slam.

by Anonymousreply 73June 29, 2021 9:43 PM

R71 = Marty Hingis playing it classy

by Anonymousreply 74June 29, 2021 9:44 PM

Roger is tennis's first billionaire! No way his wife will be divorcing anytime soon!

by Anonymousreply 75June 29, 2021 9:47 PM

R69, she does come across as desperate and constantly horny. It is kinda gross. No one wants to hear about a 75 y.o. Great Grandma Chrissy being a desperate thot and thirsty for a good pounding.

Thank God Martina does not go around appearing that desperate and trashy. Chrissy is basically just white trash that got rich.

by Anonymousreply 76June 29, 2021 9:50 PM

What did Mirka do to earn the ire of Datalounge, besides the fact that some of you are jealous af?

by Anonymousreply 77June 29, 2021 9:52 PM

Love the way the chair umpire announces the score for Ugoat Humbert: Hum Bear.

by Anonymousreply 78June 29, 2021 9:53 PM

Mirka got fat. Huge, in fact. She's the HUGE-GOAT.

by Anonymousreply 79June 29, 2021 9:58 PM

[quote] What did Mirka do to earn the ire of Datalounge, besides the fact that some of you are jealous af?

Basically because she’s not a thin, anorexic waif, and she eats in public. Thus we at Gays and Tennis consider her a fat pig. She also does not have model looks.

by Anonymousreply 80June 29, 2021 9:59 PM

With Serena out, maybe granny Vee will surprise us all.

by Anonymousreply 81June 29, 2021 10:02 PM

Mirka and the rest of the Gramps entourage are annoying AF. During every big match this fat milch cow and the rest of the freeloaders would stand up and cheer after every fucking point that Gramps won. Not games or sets, points. No one needs that much validation from their team after every fucking point. The Grampy worship by the media is nauseating and the likes of Mircow seem to have a huge sense of entitlement.

by Anonymousreply 82June 29, 2021 10:04 PM

So if it was your husband r82 you'd just sit there the whole match and encourage him occasionally? I'd be his biggest vocal fan. Aside from the facts she isn't a supermodel or overtly friendly it seems like a lot of you hate her for no reason. She also was a tennis pro in her all right (not Serena level but better than most every person on this site).

by Anonymousreply 83June 29, 2021 10:09 PM

R81 is this the first time in awhile that Serena is out before Venus?

by Anonymousreply 84June 29, 2021 10:09 PM

Mirka is slovenly and has acted like a cunt. Didn’t she get into a yelling match with Stan at some tournament.

by Anonymousreply 88June 29, 2021 10:30 PM

Roger plays Richard Gasquet next. I love Gasquet. I know most don't find him sexy or handsome but I'd fuck him endlessly. He has one of the most beautiful backhands in the games history. It's lovely. Roger will will, sadly.

by Anonymousreply 89June 29, 2021 10:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 90June 29, 2021 10:35 PM

R89 I've always found him sexy and he's known as kinda slutty which i like

by Anonymousreply 91June 29, 2021 10:43 PM

Rotcher is such en esshole, and Mirka is such uh kunt.

by Anonymousreply 94June 29, 2021 10:54 PM

Yeah, I have a thing for Gasquet, too. He always looks kind of shy and awkward. Probably very intense in bed. Might well cry after he cums.

by Anonymousreply 95June 29, 2021 10:55 PM

Another Gasquet admirer. LOVE watching him swing that backhand and do think he is attractive as well.

“This grass isn’t grass, but ice slathered with Vaseline.” - Andre Agassi, on Wimbledon

by Anonymousreply 98June 29, 2021 11:03 PM

OK, this is like out-of-nowhere, but what if a player's mother on the sidelines pulled out some black magic kind of thing and said she was putting a evil eye curse on her daughter's opponent. Would they make her stop, even though it's actually harmless and ridiculous? What if the other players complained? Now that I've said it, I hope it happens.

by Anonymousreply 99June 29, 2021 11:14 PM

r99, its never stopped me!

by Anonymousreply 100June 29, 2021 11:18 PM

Serena needs to retire before her reputation is beyond repair. Isn't she 40 in September, what are her chances to win the U S Open? She will never break Margaret Courts record, that ship sailed 5 years ago. It is so laughable listening to the media trying to find something good to say about her round one Wimbledon loss. It appears Roger's opponents injury may have saved him.

by Anonymousreply 101June 29, 2021 11:43 PM

That Shapo pic upthread, YUM. Blonde fur on the legs, yum.

Yeah, love Gasquet. Always heard he was gay.

by Anonymousreply 102June 30, 2021 12:23 AM

[quote] Yeah, love Gasquet. Always heard he was gay.

It’s “quet” not “gay”.

by Anonymousreply 103June 30, 2021 12:29 AM

by Anonymousreply 104June 30, 2021 12:38 AM

R99, strangely enough in the late 1920s there was a physical altercation between the mother of soon to be Wimbledon champ Cilli Aussem and another player's mother, because Aussem's mother was convinced that the other mother had cast a spell on Cilli. I might have things a bit wrong since it's been a while since I read about it, but that's the gist. Btw, this all occurred in Weimar Germany.

by Anonymousreply 105June 30, 2021 12:41 AM

[quote] So if it was your husband [R82] you'd just sit there the whole match and encourage him occasionally? I'd be his biggest vocal fan

Please. A majority of champions over the decades have managed to win and win a lot without their parents or significant others standing up to clap after every fucking point. Is Grampy so much of a fragile flower that he needs that kind of encouragement?

If the Novaxx entourage pulled this shit they would get criticized for being obnoxious and tacky, but Gramps is like Teflon. Nothing ever sticks to him.

by Anonymousreply 109June 30, 2021 6:19 AM

Problem with Mirka and Kim sears is that they are extremely condescending and sometimes even abusive towards their husband's opponents.

And let's not even get into their personal lives where there is evident that these two women are nothing but couple of gold digging whores who pump out one baby after another not because they like being mother or that they love their husbands( both of whom are obviously homosexuals ) but with sole intention of entrapping their husbands.

by Anonymousreply 110June 30, 2021 6:40 AM

Mirka obviously believes all the PR hype about her meal ticket and expects everyone else to worship him as the GOAT and the most influential tennis player ever. I expect a breakdown from her and a meltdown from Gramps when Pedal or Novaxx overtake him in the Slam tally.

Kim Sears is just a rancid cunt like the rest of her odious husband's family.

by Anonymousreply 111June 30, 2021 7:21 AM

Why this thread is greyed out?

by Anonymousreply 112June 30, 2021 7:28 AM

Maybe someone got tired of all the gramps, grannie bullshit? It really does get old.

by Anonymousreply 113June 30, 2021 7:51 AM

the mods really do hate tennis on here. Bizarre that the last thread was deleted and all the others get paywalled early

There are still a number of first round matches that haven't finished yet and others that haven't even started! Obnoxious of Wimbledon not to put 1 of those as the first match on centre court. Instead they have 3 second round matches. Really unfair

by Anonymousreply 114June 30, 2021 8:54 AM

[quote]If the Novaxx entourage pulled this shit they would get criticized for being obnoxious and tacky, but Gramps is like Teflon. Nothing ever sticks to him.

The usual selective cherry-picking by Federer haters. Novaxx's parents are up there in terms of obnoxiousness with the likes of the Hewetts and the Capriatis. Mirka is no better or worse than these.

As for another disturbing trend among the Federer haters: do you really need to use "queeny" and "Federerina" as insults? Since when is being queeny/effeminate or being characterized as feminine considered an insult?—beyond middle school and among homophobes, I mean.

Guns *And* Buns Team (Tiafoe)

Kenin out to another American in round 2. Damn she is struggling this year.

Ugo had an awful draw. It's a pity thta he has some lacks of concentration that he ends paying, but if his first round was tough, he was destined to play Felix in third and Zverev in fourth, curiously two of the few who really know how to play on grass.

Frankly, i thought Gasquet was classier, that way to deny being gay was pretty trashy.

Great win from Tiafoe who is on fire. And Rulev is doing well today (probably the only tough player on Nole's draw till quarterfinals.

RBA was winning easily but of course being himself he had to complicate it. Anyway Kecmanovic doesn't seem to be good enough to pull a surprise. He is probably the hyped youngster that is making less noise right now

by Anonymousreply 154June 30, 2021 6:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 156June 30, 2021 6:51 PM

Tiafoe is playing really well. Glad to see he’s realized there is more he needs to do in order to reach his potential.

by Anonymousreply 157June 30, 2021 6:53 PM

R156 I don't follow the competition that much. He used to qualify for finals but he had bad results on them and he was world champion before the coming out (it's true that his victory was a surprise)

by Anonymousreply 158June 30, 2021 7:06 PM

Poor Vee, struggling against lame also-rans like Jabore. Time for Queen Vee to retire.

by Anonymousreply 159June 30, 2021 7:16 PM

Bye Granny Vee

by Anonymousreply 160June 30, 2021 7:18 PM

The racist AELTC cunts could have scheduled Vee's match on Center Court. If she retires and never plays again the five-time champ would have ended her career playing on Court 3 and Court 1. The way they treat her is a fucking disgrace.

by Anonymousreply 161June 30, 2021 7:20 PM

Now the only Wimbledon champs left are Kerber and Muguruza who are both playing quite well.

by Anonymousreply 162June 30, 2021 7:21 PM

Could an american man make the quarterfinals? Theres a good chance Korda and Tiafoe are in a fairly open section.

by Anonymousreply 163June 30, 2021 7:23 PM

Broady and Lil 'Diego is a great match. Diego playing like a metronome and Broady hanging on by his fingernails.

by Anonymousreply 164June 30, 2021 7:27 PM

Rublev won easily against Harris

by Anonymousreply 165June 30, 2021 7:27 PM

R126 Andreescu lost to Cornet on a grass a week ago so it's not a surprise. Like Osaka, Sinner and Karatsev she seems to be a hardcourt specialist. I'm sure Andreescu will magically peak for the Olympics, Rogers Cup and USO

by Anonymousreply 166June 30, 2021 7:29 PM

R163 Tiafoe is in great form but he has a draw from hell.

Hey, did you know Andy Murray got a new hip?

by Anonymousreply 184June 30, 2021 10:56 PM

Felix is precocious, but he is nowhere near Nadal or Djokovic at his age, and i don't watch in him the hunger those two had at that age either. He has talent and he has a stronger body (i remember Davidovich saying that most of them look like child in comparission with Felix when they were juniors even most of them were older) but its needed way more to get what the atp is promoting with him.

by Anonymousreply 185June 30, 2021 10:57 PM

thank Christ Andy's hip is titanium cuz hasn't he already played like 9 sets?

by Anonymousreply 186June 30, 2021 10:59 PM

I think 1 problem FAA has had is that because he rose up the ranks so quickly, he didn't play a lot of smaller events first. So therefore he keeps reaching finals and latter rounds of bigger tournaments and then loses. If he were to play a few more smaller events he'd likely have a couple titles by now

by Anonymousreply 187June 30, 2021 10:59 PM

I don't doubt Felix will be very good in a future, but right now he is not. And he didn't won against Monteiro making great points, he won because Monteiro implossioned. The Brazilian was the best in the first two sets.

Keep in mind too that COVID hit at a particularly inopportune time for Felix in terms of a development trajectory that's crucial at 19. He had just made the finals in Rotterdam and Marseille when the tour came to a halt. R188, how was Monteiro the better player in sets that he lost 3-6, 3-6? That makes no sense.

by Anonymousreply 190June 30, 2021 11:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 193July 1, 2021 12:56 AM

by Anonymousreply 194July 1, 2021 3:33 AM

by Anonymousreply 196July 1, 2021 4:47 AM

Marton had a great chance to rest and recover for the match against little Diego..

Diego is not good on grass but you need to be very fresh to beat him in a best of five match.

Instead Marton is playing stupid best of five doubles match which could go for three hours.

Mark my words if Marton loses tomorrow to little Diego then physical fitness would be a big reason for that.

by Anonymousreply 197July 1, 2021 5:17 AM

I like Sloan in a way you guys don't. Yes she annoys the fuck out of me when she's lazy and doesn't try. But sometimes the bitch just decides to play. To her own detriment she's not obsessed with playing tennis She can beat anyone if she's playing well And I really don't think anyone at any tournament likes to draw her. Like Jennifer Capriati when she was struggling before her she's one of those that when they show up they will beat 3 or 4 top ten players in a row.

by Anonymousreply 206July 1, 2021 6:55 AM

Hoping Sloane Square can go all the way and conquer Wimbledon this year. She is too good a player to be wasting her career. The woman she beat in the first round (Ova, Kvit) is in the same category.

How on earth is Enko, Ostap suddenly winning again? Her sudden resurgence seems a bit suspicious especially given her origins. Does she have a "heart condition" too like Ova, Sugarp?

ESPN and the American media will lose interest in the women's event once Coco 🐐 loses but if Sloane Square can play steadily she may get some hype for a change. Ben and his beard will be pissed off if someone like Jabore or Pliskbot ends up winning Wimbledon and they have to still call it compelling.

How well does Ashleigh Borety play on grass?

by Anonymousreply 207July 1, 2021 6:58 AM

Watching Zverev v Sangren - Zverev took an easy first set. I have to say the Wimbledon dress code does wonders for Zverev. The all-white outfit really suits him and makes him look much less douchy than usual. He's also being quite cheerful and smiling, which improves him as well.

by Anonymousreply 211July 1, 2021 12:30 PM

Sloane is sooooo much prettier than Serena, that's how I started liking her. And I was pissed when in her own obnoxious way, Serena tweeted "I MADE YOU," after Sloane beat her several years ago. God, I'll be happy when that entitled creep Serena is GONE.

Coco has a chance too...but regardless of her obvious drive and desire to compete and win, she's still a kid. I wouldn't put money on her.

Sloane is prettier than most players. She is very attractive. And not in the "attractive for a tennis player" way like Chrissy Evert used to be. (Chrissy was pretty compared to the ugly trolls like Billy Jean King or Spam Shriver she used to play against but she was actually very basic looking.)

by Anonymousreply 224July 1, 2021 1:44 PM

R214, Barty’s got an incredible game. Tight, neat, tactically super smart and with incredible anticipation. Her slice is venomous on grass, and she’s using it to perfection today. Her forehand is also great to watch—she can go down the line in a heartbeat, but more than that she seems to effortlessly and unexpectedly redirect cross court with the tightest angle imaginable.

She is the antithesis to everything that’s wrong with WTA players today—she’s not a mindless ballbasher with no plan b, and she doesn’t grunt and groan or try to bully her opponents off the court.

by Anonymousreply 226July 1, 2021 1:47 PM

R221, it was understood in the 1970s that Chris Evert was no beauty, her appeal was that she seemed FEMININE compared to the others. Everything about her was "feminine," from the hair and make-up she wore on the court and her passive baseline style of play to her unwillingness to take a stand on any issue. When she did take a stand, it was fucking ridiculous, such as why she didn't think trans Renee Richards should be allowed to play women's tennis in 1977:

"If Renee is allowed to play, it will encourage other young men to get the operation."

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 227July 1, 2021 1:52 PM

Despite her upthread defenders, Barty's matches are still dull as dishwater. She's uninspiring to watch. In her defense, so are most players on the WTA tour these days.

The stand is one Renee Richards herself now agrees with.

by Anonymousreply 233July 1, 2021 2:46 PM

R246,Agree. Richard bright career "end" when he choked a very easily winnable fourth round Wimbledon match. He was on the verge of victory but could not finish an easy volley on his service game which could have given him a match point on his serve.

That was the main breakthrough match of Murray even though he had some big win before

Both players went to different level after that match.

That was staart of fake " big four" for Andy media bots

Ritchie OTOH had been scrapping the barrel from that point onwards.

R237, wrong, you ignorant slut. I read the quote in Evert's 1981 autobiography. Evert did not address whether a woman who used to be a man should be playing women's tennis. Her concern was the "promotion" of transsexuals through tennis. That this promotion would attract others to that world. It's the same logic that if a child sees positive examples of gays, they're more likely to turn gay.

Medvedev/Karatsev certainly qualify for the least likeable, R279, though a Sandgren/Isner pairing would have trumped them.

by Anonymousreply 289July 1, 2021 10:40 PM

There's also nothing wrong with Medvedev. He has personality and intelligence.

by Anonymousreply 291July 1, 2021 10:49 PM

just based on overall teams, the Czech and US women have a great chance of getting at least 1 medal while for the men, the Italians Russians will likely get at least 1.

Of course looking at individual players, hardcourt specialists Osaka and Andreescu are favorites and for men obviously it's Djokovic's gold to lose.

by Anonymousreply 292July 1, 2021 10:56 PM

Oh please, Karatsev is curt and dismissive and chauvinistic in his press interviews and Medvedev has a long history of belligerence.

Boris Becker slams Naomi Osaka for skipping Wimbledon: ‘Where’s the f–king pressure?’

Tennis legend Boris Becker had some tough words for Naomi Osaka at the start of Wimbledon last week after she announced she would skip the tournament.

“If you can’t deal with the media, it’s very difficult to be a professional tennis player,” Becker told The Times of UK. “The tour isn’t possible without the press. And it’s difficult to make your prize money, or money for your sponsors without the media. It’s not something we look forward to. But it’s part of the job. You have to learn to deal with it.”

Osaka raised eyebrows when she declined to speak with the media at the French Open. She eventually withdrew after being threatened with default and fines. She then announced she would take a break from the spotlight and later committed to focusing on the Olympics, where she would represent Japan.

Becker predicted in an interview with The Times of UK on Saturday she would have a tough time if she can’t face the media pressure.

Becker, who won three times at Wimbledon and had six major titles overall during his career, also questioned Osaka over her stance that the pressure was causing her trouble.

“Is that really pressure? Isn’t it pressure when you don’t have food on the table? When you’ve got to feed your family and you don’t have a job? When you have a life-changing injury? Isn’t that more pressure?” he asked rhetorically.

“You’re 23, you’re healthy, you’re wealthy, your family is good. Where’s the f—king pressure?”

Osaka announced her decision to withdraw from the French Open on May 31.

She explained in a statement that she could have explained herself better and decided she was going to take a break from tennis and social media.

“This isn’t a situation I ever imagined or intended when I posted a few days ago. I think now the best thing for the tournament, the other players and my well-being is that I withdraw so that everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis going on in Paris. I never wanted to be a distraction and I accept my timing was not ideal and my message could have been clearer,” Osaka wrote.

“More importantly I would never trivialize mental health or use the term lightly. The truth is that I suffered long bouts of depression since the US Open in 2018 and I have had a really hard time coping with that. Anyone that knows me knows I’m introverted, and anyone that has seen me at tournaments will notice that I’m often wearing headphones as that helps dulls my social anxiety.”

Osaka apologized to the “cool journalists” who she “may have hurt,” but explained that she’s not a “natural public speaker” and experiences intense anxiety addressing the media. “I get really nervous and find it stressful to always engage and give you the best answers I can.”

“So here in Paris I was already feeling vulnerable and anxious so I thought it was better to exercise self-care and skip the press conferences. I announced it pre-emptively because I do feel like the rules are quite outdated in parts and I wanted to highlight that. I wrote privately to the tournament apologizing and saying that I would be more than happy to speak with them after the tournament as the Slams are intense. I’m gonna take some time away from the court now, but when the time is right I really want to work with the Tour to discuss ways we can make things better for the playoffs, press and fans.”

Osaka concluded her statement with “Anyways hope you are all doing well and staying safe, I love you guys I’ll see you when I see you.”

She announced earlier this month she would take “personal time” to gear up for the Olympics.

She later broke her social media silence to tweet she was on the cover of Vogue Japan.

by Anonymousreply 303July 2, 2021 5:44 AM

I think Sloane Stephans can beat anyone and can win the whole thing. And she's beautiful. She's looked amazing since round 1. She's one of those Jennifer Capriati types that can strike any time and anywhere. They can just beat anyone if they're playing well. No other player has ever given Serena fits like Capriati at her most dominant. Because any time they played both showed up.

Querrey losing to fat, wildly inconsistent Duckworth of all people is 1 of the most hilarious results in years. Querrey is an idiot but he has a lot of power and skill when he's dialed in.

Shame that Tiafoe's head seems to have gone walkabout in this match against KAREN!

by Anonymousreply 306July 2, 2021 11:06 AM

Yesterday Sloth has withdrawn from the doubles. Very smart decision on her part. She is in good form.

Concentrate on singles. She can go far.

Tiafoe only does well on big show courts. In fact after his first round match he told that show court and big crowd was the reason he played so well against Stef

He may not have defeated Stef if that match was on court 2 or smaller stadium than that.

by Anonymousreply 307July 2, 2021 12:14 PM

Muguruza-Jabeur is an entertaining match. Tiafoe thoroughly beaten by Khatenov. I couldn't believe how many pundits were picking Tiafoe in that one.

by Anonymousreply 315July 2, 2021 2:42 PM

Marton. also played doubles yesterday. If match goes to 5 th set.little Diego has realb advantage

by Anonymousreply 323July 2, 2021 3:59 PM

Lil Diego scrabbled a die-break win, so isn't out yet. Plus, he just changed his shirt.

by Anonymousreply 324July 2, 2021 4:06 PM

Muscle stud Fucsovics should play with his shirt off. Sex appeal is the only thing that can keep tennis popular after the big 3 retires.

by Anonymousreply 325July 2, 2021 4:11 PM

Evans team or Korda team?

Misery team or Shapo team?

by Anonymousreply 326July 2, 2021 4:20 PM

Boring win for Nov.

by Anonymousreply 327July 2, 2021 4:51 PM

Denis Kudla gave a very decent fight to Novak. Much better than Kevin Anderson.

I wasn't expecting that.

R326 , I swear to God, if Shapo loses this golden opportunity to beat Murray and reach Rd4 then I am going to shave all his golden hair from neck down and that includes hair on his ass-crack.

by Anonymousreply 328July 2, 2021 5:05 PM

Is R328 Cames Jourier?

by Anonymousreply 329July 2, 2021 5:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 330July 2, 2021 6:07 PM

Man, the women's draw is NUTS. So much for my theory that previous slam winners Muguruza and Sloane had an advantage. Now I really think it'll be Muchova. Sabalenka looks great, too.

The Korda win feels really special. One of those big Wimbledon Center Court breakthroughs of a future star. Time will tell but it's very exciting.

But he looked HAWT today anyway.

by Anonymousreply 351July 2, 2021 10:34 PM

^ Seb Korda looks like a real talent. Let's hope.

by Anonymousreply 352July 2, 2021 10:38 PM

I am becoming a huge fan of Sebi Korda. No bullshit, no drama, just plays tennis.

by Anonymousreply 353July 2, 2021 11:55 PM

Totally agree R353. I’ve had my eye on Korda for awhile. Just plays tennis, no fuss, no drama, no ridiculous elongated serve preparation - he just plays. He’s also a tall drink of water.

by Anonymousreply 354July 3, 2021 7:09 AM

Good riddance to the overrated drama queen Misery. I guess angry Judy won't be fucking him with her strap-on at least until the US Open. Meanwhile Judy's other crotch dropping is still moaning about player bubbles. That entitled d-bag needs to have a reality check slapped into him.

by Anonymousreply 355July 3, 2021 7:43 AM

What Patrick Monologue was doing in Coco Gauff, 's box during her second round match?

Is he her new coach?

It seems he is everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 356July 3, 2021 7:45 AM

R356, he is everyone's coach. He drives some of the Coco 🐐 hype.

by Anonymousreply 357July 3, 2021 7:53 AM

Mouratoglou is a fame whore. He’d very likely pay to be in rising new stars’ box, getting all the camera shots.

But, if he’s such a great coach and motivator, how come his star pupil just can’t get that last slam?

by Anonymousreply 358July 3, 2021 8:45 AM

Mouratoglou is the new Nick Bollettieri. It's just going to be impossible to ignore him for a while. I'll white-knuckle it though.

by Anonymousreply 359July 3, 2021 9:24 AM

R346 His game is flashy and it could be way better if he could use his brain from time to time

by Anonymousreply 360July 3, 2021 11:56 AM

R353 Korda has the advantage that he was not really hyped before breaking into the circuit. He was a good junior, he won the Australian Open, but at that time the hyped players of his age (Felix, Kuhn, Molleker) were playing challengers.

He is a solid player and has potential. And he plays well in all surfaces. He'll be seeded at GS very soon

by Anonymousreply 361July 3, 2021 11:59 AM

Sebi Korda reminds me of the former player Peter Korda so much. It's amazing and incredible that we have two guys with the same name and similar looks both be good at tennis.

by Anonymousreply 362July 3, 2021 12:05 PM

Herbert Hurkacz is hideous; ugly tattoos, bad haircut, ugly beard, ill fitting mismatched kit, at the changeover I changed channels in order NOT see him change his shirt. He looks like he slept in his car.

I like Cilic but glad Danil won. He'll put up more of a fight if he has to play Roger.

Kyrgios is nuts.

by Anonymousreply 398July 4, 2021 11:50 AM
