There I said it! Correctly.

I thought he was already dead.

My brother with Down syndrome loves Love Boat reruns. He'll run out of his room when an episode is on and tell me all the guest stars. He's going to be so upset when he finds out.

I would have loved to have done lines with Julie and then ridden the Captain's cock in his quarters!

Ja, Mein Fuhrer!

I worked for Princess Cruises and met Gavin many times. He always remember my name. Willing to go the extra mile in his role as the company spokesman. His wife Patty was gracious and charming. Except for a passing fling with a Italian waiter ( orange speedo boy we called him) they had a solid marriage. Last time I met him was at company function two years ago. At 87 he appeared to be a bit out of it but he hit his mark and new his lines. Gave his pep talk to "his crew". He came alive when he heard the applause. He was a sweetheart.

R1 Yeah, he appeared on the 2020 "Celebrities You're Surprised Are Still Alive" thread.

Who had the Orange Speedo fling?

You? Gavin? Or Gavin’s wife?

MMMWWWAAAAAHHHHAAAAHHHHAAAAAA!

#5 That is a really nice story - it’s nice to know that he was really as kind as he seemed to be. Wait - Gavin had a fling with the Italian waiter????? Years ago he took a break from marriage to have a big romance with that religious new age gal Terry Cole Whittaker (Whatever happened to her?) Then he got back with Patty and they have been together forever. I loved it when Betty White’s Sue Ann would coo and caress his bald head and call him “Shiny Murrey!” ..... Too many regular faces from my childhood have passed away this year!

90 is a great run, but I'm still sad about this. He seemed like a good egg.

by Anonymousreply 16May 29, 2021 10:46 PM

R13 He left Patty for a 20 year year old Italian waiter. The kid was waiting tables one cruise. Disembarked and came back onboard as Gavin's 'guest" in his suite. The rest of the restaurant staff were not pleased they now had to wait on this orange speedo wearing giglio. When he ditched the kid he "found religion". When they remarried Patty made sure she accompanied him on every cruise and was basically his minder for the rest of his life.

No idea if that story about the Italian busboy is true or not, but I have to say I was always surprised that Gavin was apparently heterosexual. Even as a young gayling myself watching reruns in the early 80s, "Murray" pinged off the radar. I mean. c'mon, the character was a bitchy wit, seldom spoke of his wife, and "adopted" a young Asian boy. Mary was so naive, but Lou and Rhoda knew the score.

by Anonymousreply 22May 30, 2021 12:44 AM

I really wanted to see him naked when I was a boy watching the MTM show. Playgirl should have come knocking.

by Anonymousreply 23May 30, 2021 12:47 AM

I always heard that Murray was written as a Quasi gay character , but was too risky for 70s CBS Suits .

by Anonymousreply 24May 30, 2021 12:50 AM

700 Club participation ruined him for me...

He’s with Jesus now.
