Fatkins doesn't do a lot in the long term, it is more of a short term diet. But if it is working for you now, and you can hang on to it, great. Here's a thread that might help OP.

Don't stay on it too long. It can destroy your gums and teeth.

by Anonymousreply 3May 25, 2021 4:58 PM

I've done Atkins with success in the past. I've been able to lose a pound a day, so my goal of losing 15-20 pounds should happen in just three weeks. When you know what you want your ideal weight to be, it's good to weigh yourself every morning and make a decision that when I'm 5 pounds over that, I'll cut back to get back to where I want to be. Obviously I've not practiced that very well. But I am 54, 5'8, and presently weigh 175 pounds. I want to get down to somewhere between 155 and 160 pounds.

by Anonymousreply 4May 25, 2021 5:08 PM

You should just do OMAD

by Anonymousreply 5May 25, 2021 5:11 PM

Make sure to do some non cardio workouts and eat enough protein so maintain some muscle. You don’t want to turn out like poor Laird Cregar who crash dieted away all his heart muscle.

by Anonymousreply 6May 25, 2021 5:11 PM

It must be going great, OP: you’re already losing words!

by Anonymousreply 7May 25, 2021 5:15 PM

I'm so hungry and lightheaded my sentences are missing words.

by Anonymousreply 8May 25, 2021 6:15 PM

A pound of what?

by Anonymousreply 9May 25, 2021 7:02 PM

God, you're tedious, R9.

by Anonymousreply 10May 25, 2021 7:07 PM

It’s actually not called “Atkins” anymore. Look up “keto”recipes online. It works; I lost 30 pounds in 5 months and kept it off.

by Anonymousreply 11May 25, 2021 7:11 PM

Keto (fka Atkins) diets are actually harmful to your long term health. But people don't care because they only want to lose weight, not actually BE healthy.

by Anonymousreply 12May 25, 2021 9:16 PM

How harmful is it if I am only doing it for three weeks?

by Anonymousreply 13May 25, 2021 9:22 PM

Can I have your stuff ?

by Anonymousreply 14May 25, 2021 9:29 PM

That pound was water. Say goodbye to your kidneys.

What's the point if you are only on iy for 3 weeks?

It all comes back when you stop it.

Just do calories in calories out.

Forget all the silly marketing diets out there. They are there to make money for the author, not make you lose weight long term.

by Anonymousreply 15May 25, 2021 9:31 PM

Not true. When I've done this diet in the past, the weight does not come back unless I were to resume eating a pint of ice cream every night.

This is an effective way to lose weight pretty quickly and then be inspired to keep it off.

by Anonymousreply 16May 25, 2021 9:33 PM

Kidneys ruined, stinky breath, metabolism crashed, weight gain as soon as you stop.

by Anonymousreply 17May 25, 2021 9:36 PM

Not at all. Weight comes back if you're stupid. Like any diet, you have to then adjust your normal non-diet eating habits. I'm 54, my waist is 33", I am 5'8 and weigh 175. I want to lose 15 pounds. This is a good way to do that.

by Anonymousreply 18May 25, 2021 9:50 PM
OP: I just the Atkins diet yesterday. I lost one pound already!

Was it lost from the part of you that contained literacy?

by Anonymousreply 19May 25, 2021 9:58 PM

If you want to lose 50 pounds of ugly fat OP, cut off your head!

by Anonymousreply 20May 25, 2021 10:01 PM

R20, that's so funny.

I guess there are a lot of fat guys out here.

by Anonymousreply 21May 25, 2021 10:03 PM

Atkins raised my cholesterol level to 600...my Dr couldn't believe it.. I knocked off the trans fat and beef and got it down to normal

The second you stray from it, you will gain it all back

by Anonymousreply 22May 25, 2021 10:06 PM

Does no one read? I've done this diet twice over the past 20 years and I have never gained it al back, let alone "the second you stray from it."

And if your cholesterol level went up, it's because you were eating too much red meat.

I do this diet and eat lots of fish and chicken. No problem with cholesterol. And when I lose the weight I want to lose, I feel so good about that that I stop doing the things that I know make me gain weight. For me that means not eating so much ice cream and not skipping meals and eating crap food.

Everyone always says that you immediately gain the weight back. That's because those people are undisciplined and think this is magic. Atkins is nothing more than an effective way to lose weight pretty quickly. Then, you have to change your eating habits or you will gain it back. Simple as that.

by Anonymousreply 23May 25, 2021 10:17 PM

Dr. Atkins was overweight and suffering from atherosclerosis when he died. He died from a fall, but had a cardiac arrest the year before his death. He was 72, not young but he might've lived at least another 10 years in better quality health if not for his shitty diet that people buy because it allows them to indulge in meat and cheese.

by Anonymousreply 24May 25, 2021 10:30 PM

The “high cholesterol” comments are ridiculous. I eat chicken, salmon, Turkey, veggies, almonds, berries, yogurt, and have normal cholesterol. It works long term; I’m proof.

by Anonymousreply 25May 25, 2021 10:45 PM

Just wear a colourful catfan.

Much easier path.

by Anonymousreply 26May 25, 2021 11:35 PM

I will report on my progress every day for the next three weeks and I guarantee you I will lose 20 pounds.

by Anonymousreply 27May 26, 2021 12:19 AM

The diet works very well. But it’s hard for most people to stick to it, and it’s easy to gain the weight back VERY quickly if you go off it and revert to old eating habits.

by Anonymousreply 28May 26, 2021 12:25 AM

Thank you for thinking of us!

by Anonymousreply 29May 26, 2021 12:53 AM

I didn't know that the method one choses to lose weight was so connected to a particular decade.

by Anonymousreply 30May 26, 2021 12:58 AM

You can piss out a pound of weight in one long stream.

Water is heavy.

by Anonymousreply 31May 26, 2021 1:08 AM

Yes, but last time I did this I lost 20 pounds in 20 days. Not all water.

by Anonymousreply 32May 26, 2021 1:21 AM
Just do calories in calories out.

No, he must take nutrition into account as well as calorie counting. One needs certain amounts nutrients, fat and protein every day for your body to function.

Otherwise, organ failure is on the horizon.

by Anonymousreply 33May 26, 2021 8:30 PM

Rob Lowe and his fucking Atkins candy drawer commercial.

by Anonymousreply 34May 27, 2021 12:07 AM

Just had dinner: Pork Rinds, Diet Coke, and Marlboroughs. I can feel myself getting lighter!

by Anonymousreply 35May 27, 2021 12:39 AM

Atherosclerosis is OP's new best friend.

by Anonymousreply 36May 27, 2021 1:00 AM

Atkins/Keto is great. I'm doing it right now, and I'm down 35 pounds of quarantine blubber since starting late March/early April. I've done it many times before, and I also lose about a pound a day when I combine it with exercise-about 3-5 pounds per week if I just sit around while dieting. I find that after the first 3-5 days, I'm not hungry at all and I rarely have cravings.

As soon as I can fit back into my 28's again, I'll maintain for a few months... and then start eating whole pies in one sitting again-sad, but true. I was worried my life-long yo-yo dieting would fuck up my metabolism and it wouldn't work this time, but so far, so good. I should be back to my birth weight in another couple of months.

Good luck, OP!

by Anonymousreply 37May 27, 2021 1:14 AM

Cutting carbs is the easiest weight lose plan, i lost 30 lbs within about 3 months. Like any diet it's easy to fall off the wagon if you develop a stressful situation. I had health issues which led to eating like shit again.

by Anonymousreply 38May 27, 2021 2:01 AM

If this didn't work I'd be fatter than Chrissy Metz.

by Anonymousreply 39May 27, 2021 2:09 AM

A particular diet is useless if you have to go off it at some stage.

Long term it's about nutrition and calorie expenditure.

that you can do for life.

Atkins, not so.

by Anonymousreply 40May 27, 2021 2:10 AM

Bullshit junk food industry propaganda, R40. There are no essential carbs. None whatsoever. You will not die if you do not eat them.

by Anonymousreply 41May 27, 2021 6:30 AM

Tell that to Atkins. Oh, he's dead.

by Anonymousreply 42May 27, 2021 8:30 AM

Tell that to all the [italic]Biggest Loser[/italic] contestants gullible enough to buy into Jillian Michaels' fetid anti-keto propaganda while gaining back all the weight they lost.

by Anonymousreply 43May 27, 2021 8:32 AM

I'm going to have a tray of delicious chocolate smothered donuts filled with a rich strawberry jam(jelly) and topped with whipped cream.

All washed down with a supersize cafe latte or two

by Anonymousreply 44May 27, 2021 9:36 AM

Enjoy diabetes, R44.

by Anonymousreply 45May 27, 2021 5:15 PM

Enjoy diabetes, R44.

by Anonymousreply 46May 27, 2021 5:15 PM

It's been three days (started the Atkins diet on Monday morning) and I've already lost 5.4 pounds, bitches!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. it's all water and my kidneys are going to fail.

by Anonymousreply 47May 27, 2021 5:44 PM

That can't be worse than a diabetes-inducing Standard American Diet.

by Anonymousreply 48May 27, 2021 5:46 PM
That can't be worse than a diabetes-inducing Standard American Diet.

I completely agree. Many of the people on here who are criticizing it are probably overweight or making poor eating choices.

by Anonymousreply 49May 27, 2021 5:57 PM

I didn't believe cutting carbs would work until I tried it and lost over 100 pounds. I was also running very long distances.

by Anonymousreply 50May 27, 2021 5:59 PM

Kim Kardashian lost her baby weight eating 40g net of carbohydrate a day. That's not 70s style Atkins and it gives space to eat lots of vegetables and fruit. She then gradually transitioned into a primarily vegan diet over the course of a year.

Obviously, she spends a lot of time working out, but that makeup ain't selling itself with a spokeswoman with fat anywhere else than her butt and boobs.

by Anonymousreply 51May 27, 2021 6:36 PM

People were actually skinnier in the 1970s. Even the fat people were skinnier.

by Anonymousreply 52May 27, 2021 6:37 PM

Like Paleo these Atkin's diet nuts become cultists to the cause.

No point reasoning with them.

Let 'em lose all that water weight, stuff their kidneys, clog their arteries with saturated fat and meet an early death.

by Anonymousreply 53May 28, 2021 6:31 AM

R11, there a few key differences between Atkins and Keto. With Atkins, the amount of protein you can eat is unlimited. With Keto, you're limited to 20% of your daily calories. With Atkins, you cut carbs to 20 grams during the induction phase, then slowly reintroduce them in Phases 2, 3, and 4. With Keto, you cut carbs to 5% of your daily caloric intake and remain in ketosis for the remainder of the diet.

by Anonymousreply 54May 28, 2021 7:26 AM

I've lost 6 pounds since Monday!

by Anonymousreply 55May 29, 2021 5:48 PM

That's one of your kidneys now all shrivelled up!

by Anonymousreply 56May 30, 2021 7:28 AM

In nine days, I have lost 6.6 pounds, which is strange because I feel as though I've eaten no less than 20 pounds of cheese.

by Anonymousreply 57June 2, 2021 6:11 PM

I lost 70 pounds more than a decade ago and have kept the weight off by avoiding starches, flours and sugar. I also get about an hour of exercise a day. It doesn't have to be strenuous--a 3 mile walk is sufficient. You can get the same weight loss benefits of the Atkins Diet by adding generous amounts of green vegetables which will help protect against kidney damage, etc. Low glycemic fruits such as raspberries are also excellent. And just because fat is allowed, it doesn't mean you are supposed to be piling on the butter and coconut oil and full fat cheeses. Calories still matter, as people have pointed out above. As do insulin levels. Insulin is a growth hormone and if you aren't careful, you will "grow" fat and develop insulin resistance and diabetes. Good luck!

by Anonymousreply 58June 2, 2021 6:28 PM

Why are people posting about kidneys. How does this damage your kidneys?

by Anonymousreply 59June 3, 2021 3:30 AM

I’ve done Atkins many, many times before and you do slowly gain back weight over the long term if you lapse back into bad habits. But really, with any “diet,” you do that once you go off.

I think long term it’s just good to cut out as much bread as possible (even minimizing whole wheat pastas), DEFINITELY cut out simple sugars (candy, sodas), and start drinking more water.

I’m keeping it simple now: eating plain Greek yogurt with blueberries (sometimes a dash of honey), or a veggie/cheese mushroom omelette for breakfast. I don’t overdo the bacon or sausage.

Salads without croutons for lunch, and dinner mostly of chicken with some fish occasionally for dinner. I’m cooking at home mostly now, after pigging out on delivery during most of the pandemic. I’m finding it fun to do, but I have lots of time now since I’m not working.

Drinking LOTS of water - I have a gallon jug sitting next to my bed as a visual cue to drink more often. Plus I bought a soda stream to take the place of sodas. I rarely even add flavoring to it. Once a day I’ll allow myself a diet soda, but I don’t miss them much.

I don’t get nutted up if I have cheat days. Just start back up again after a couple of indulgence days. I’m trying to look at this as a long term eating plan, not just a weight loss method.

by Anonymousreply 60June 3, 2021 4:38 AM

R60 you will be successful if you view it as a long term eating plan. I know in the past I would go back to my bad habits and gain the weight back but I refuse to gain it back.

by Anonymousreply 61June 3, 2021 8:19 AM

r30: yeah, the 70's were the decade of AYDS diet candies and Atkins; 80's were slim-fast, 90's low fat/no fat everything. 2000's were kind of a mish-mosh, but started focusing on higher protein, lower carb; 2010's were going toward juicing/and extreme low carb which brings us to today.

by Anonymousreply 62June 3, 2021 8:56 AM
90's low fat/no fat everything.

I still fucking HATE Susan Powter for that damned Stop The Insanity bullshit of the early 90's. It fucked me up. For the majority of the 1990's I would eat mostly fat free, high carb foods and avoid protein--like a diet of potatoes, corn, and peas. I was working out like a mad man back then, too, all for nothing. Had I done a higher protein diet, I would have been way more toned and not just skinny. Fuck Susan Powter. Fuck her right in her goat arse.
