Actors/actresses with the best agents?

Margot Robbie: Average at best, yet keeps getting cast in big movies and working with top Hollywood directors. Looks can only get you so far, so her agent must be out of this world. She's like the female Brad Pitt.

by Anonymousreply 161June 9, 2022 11:51 PM

It’s Margot Robbie’s dark sexuality on screen and her cheerful, unflustered public demeanour that get her hired, not her looks (which, while considerably blonde and hot are the equal of every other blonde and hot woman in Hollywood). She’s not neurotic and self-pitying like Carey Mulligan.

by Anonymousreply 1April 3, 2021 2:12 PM

Margot is currently in the Cameron Diaz/Jennifer Lawrence seat in Hollywood. Even she knows she only has a few years left as the it girl. She was smart to go into producing now.

by Anonymousreply 2April 3, 2021 2:17 PM

Adam Driver owns this thread. Yes he’s a solid actor but nothing to write home about. For someone so ugly and so charisma free, he sure does get a lot of high profile movies. Who is making it happen for him and why?

by Anonymousreply 3April 3, 2021 2:21 PM

I've met Margot, she's not "just another blonde"; she's GORGEOUS and genuinely very warm and nice.

I'm a nobody and asked for a selfie and she engaged in polite conversation and really didn't need to.

Saw Julia Robert's at the same event and they both radiated that magnetic "star power" that the true "movie stars" have. Margot has it.

Jennifer Lawrence. Girl is neither talented nor pretty and has the charm of a cockroach.

by Anonymousreply 6April 3, 2021 3:06 PM

R6: She’s the Kamala Harris of Hollywood. Now that Harvey Weinstein and his cock are in jail, she can’t readily get prestige parts or even get invited to an Oscar party. It’s all about Margot Robbie.

by Anonymousreply 7April 3, 2021 3:13 PM

Actually, CAA dumped JLaw in 2018. Other than an attorney, I think she’s only being represented by her manager Rick Yorn.

by Anonymousreply 8April 3, 2021 3:21 PM
Actually, CAA dumped JLaw in 2018

Why on earth? Was she refusing to act? CAA is all about packaging, did she not want to be parcelled up into a supporting role in a Christopher Nolan film?

by Anonymousreply 9April 3, 2021 3:41 PM

Timothee Chalamet

by Anonymousreply 10April 3, 2021 5:13 PM

Sienna Miller

by Anonymousreply 11April 3, 2021 5:21 PM

The Rock must have the best agent in the universe

by Anonymousreply 12April 3, 2021 6:29 PM

R9: She should've headlined arthouse films and taken small, supporting roles in big studio films. Hollywood sold her as the next Julia Roberts but with the acting prowess of Meryl Streep. After her oscar win, her ego got in the way and she started demanding $15-20 million to headline a studio film even with her limited talent.

by Anonymousreply 13April 3, 2021 11:21 PM

I don’t necessarily know if his agent was responsible but Bradley Cooper’s success and his sudden consecutive Oscar nominations all at once was definitely the work of somebody.

by Anonymousreply 14April 3, 2021 11:26 PM

Brie Larson

by Anonymousreply 15April 3, 2021 11:35 PM

Timothee Chalamet owns this thread. In 2021, he‘ll be a leading man in Dune, a supporting player in a Netflix film starring DiCaprio and JLaw, and be apart of The French Dispatch ensemble. Does he give the best blowjobs ever or is Brian Swardstrom really that powerful?

by Anonymousreply 16April 4, 2021 2:03 AM

I think Margot Robbie is a natural brunette

by Anonymousreply 17April 4, 2021 2:07 AM

r2 That's unfair to Cameron Diaz, she had a much, much longer run than Jennifer Lawrence and, I can't remember the details, but I know she was a smart negotiator, one of the best - people never give her credit

by Anonymousreply 18April 4, 2021 2:18 AM

Margot's nude scene in WoWS was completely unnecessary. There's no way she didn't have to do something to get where she's at. It's sad.

by Anonymousreply 19April 4, 2021 2:17 PM

I read on the DL that Margot was the one who insisted on that scene

by Anonymousreply 20April 4, 2021 2:22 PM

Zendaya

by Anonymousreply 21April 4, 2021 2:36 PM

Reese and Nicole. They get acclaimed tv show after acclaimed tv show and so quickly too.

by Anonymousreply 25April 5, 2021 4:43 AM

The devil works hard, but Reese Witherspoon's agent works harder.

by Anonymousreply 26April 5, 2021 4:57 AM

DL pariah James Corden is the one who owns this thread. How he keeps getting high profile projects (and had his name above Nicole Kidman's in "The Prom"), I have absolutely no idea.

by Anonymousreply 27April 5, 2021 4:58 AM

I'm sure some of these stars have more than 1 agent. The Rock has a lot of things going on besides acting like the booze biz. Someone I know actually went to school with one of his agents.

by Anonymousreply 28April 5, 2021 5:09 AM

Margot Robbie and Zendaya are two incredibly beautiful women. Their talent is debatable but the camera loves them, so I can see why they keep getting work, even if it is in stuff I'd never see. I agree with R3. I think he's a fine actor (great at times) but he is so ugly to my eyes. I find him repulsive on a big screen.

by Anonymousreply 29April 5, 2021 5:11 AM

yes, adam driver is ugly as fuck. I can't remember which movie it was but I was very distracted by his uneven facial features. Kept thinking he's so ugly etc...

by Anonymousreply 30April 5, 2021 5:19 AM

I think Timothee Chalamet gets work because Hollywood needs a skinny, non-threatening type to pull in the young girls. He doesn't have a lot of competition. It will be interesting to see if he's still working in ten years.

by Anonymousreply 31April 5, 2021 5:21 AM

Adam Driver is interesting to look at. No one would ever say that he was "plain." People need a reason to keep looking at the screen. Consider the cast of Schitts Creek: Eugene Levy is not handsome, Catherine O'Hara is no great beauty, etc. The daughter is conventionally attractive at best but entirely forgettable. If you aren't some great, outstanding beauty (and few are), then you need to at least be interesting.

Driver is so ugly that it's interesting (to me).

by Anonymousreply 32April 5, 2021 5:47 AM

R31: My guess is he’ll stick with the teen heartthrob roles for as long as possible. He’s just one of these people you don’t buy as a “mature” man. I agree with you on why he gets work. It’s certainly not his talent or looks that’s getting him these roles.

by Anonymousreply 33April 5, 2021 1:16 PM

R26: And Nicole Kidman’s agent works even harder.

by Anonymousreply 34April 5, 2021 1:21 PM

oMG

I got a boner (sitting next to my fat frau sister-in-law) in the movie theater the first time I saw Adam Driver on the big screen as Kylo Ren; he's got the epitome of BDF (big Dick face) and the swagger of only someone whose carrying a baby's leg in their shorts!!

Have you seen the size of his hands, combined with that massive nose, lean tall frame = dude is packing a WHOPPER.

Adam Driver adds a unspoken sexiness to any film he's in because of that big Dick energy that radiates from the screen.

PLUS he served in the Marines and can only imagine the staring that occurred while he showered with the guys.

YUM !

by Anonymousreply 35April 6, 2021 4:49 AM

James Corden keeps getting magazine covers and big roles despite being completely talent-free and hideous. I'm starting to think he's blackmailing every top producer in Hollywood; there is no other logical explanation.

by Anonymousreply 36April 6, 2021 5:00 AM

About the nudity in Wolf of Wall Street: Margot said mixed things about it in interviews at the time. "I came up with it" "my agent talked me into it" "I had to get drunk to go through with it" "I lied to my family and said it was a body double." The bottom line is that it was completely gratuitous and kind of a shame that it was her breakout role. She still plays objectifying roles (with the most egregious being the first Suicide Squad).

It's also weird that she produces a movie like Promising Young Woman, yet has no problem working with Quentin Tarantino and David O. Russell (two men who are just one step above the likes of Harvey Weinstein).

by Anonymousreply 37April 9, 2021 9:21 PM

R37: Just like everybody else in Hollywood, she’s an opportunist. Right now she gets offered everything and she’s making the most of it. She’ll work with anybody to advance her career as long as it’s convenient. Once the rest of the Hollywood hypocrites denounce these filmmakers, she’ll follow suit.

by Anonymousreply 38April 9, 2021 9:25 PM

Pedro Pascal seems to be popping up in everything now as a leading man despite being in the glass closet

by Anonymousreply 39April 9, 2021 9:27 PM

Tom Holland. That guy is everywhere. He is okay, but nothing special. I don’t understand why we are seeing so much of him lately.

by Anonymousreply 40April 9, 2021 9:29 PM

R40: He and his people want to prove that he can handle substantive roles once the Spider-Man gig is up. I agree he’s nothing to write home about. I think also he wants Timothee’s career and wants to compete for the same roles.

by Anonymousreply 41April 9, 2021 9:34 PM

Giancarlo Esposito is getting a ton of work right now. I do find him to be a great character actor, though.

by Anonymousreply 42April 9, 2021 9:36 PM

Does M have to be everywhere? There are plenty of other actresses who have her level of talent and then some. She talks about creating more opportunities in Hollywood for actresses of a certain age but she gets first dibs and wants it all for herself. We share the same agent Kevin Huvane?

by Anonymousreply 43April 9, 2021 9:39 PM

Nicole Kidman’s agent never goes to sleep. She’s box office poison and her film career is basically over now. Hence you see her dominating the television market.

by Anonymousreply 44April 9, 2021 9:42 PM

R19 - my sister had a huge fit over that scene. She was pregnant and had gained weight. She and my brother-in-law were watching that dreadful movie and my (not so bright off paper) brother-in-law rewinded....he said he "missed a moment because I checked my phone". Well, that was a night of crying, him denying he was looking at her...my sister ate an extra pizza slice and blamed him...called me...good times.

by Anonymousreply 45April 9, 2021 10:10 PM

Kidman's frozen face ruined The Undoing. She's currently in the process of ruining the Lucille Ball biopic.

by Anonymousreply 46April 9, 2021 10:13 PM

Amy Adams. Whoever her agent is should get an award for once again proving that if you put glitter on shit, it will sell.

by Anonymousreply 47April 9, 2021 10:20 PM

Margot Robbie insisted on the nudity and thought it would make her sound like a woman empowered but I think it had the potential to backfire so she backtracked. She's a typical Hollywood whore who is milking her fame for as long as she can. And as beautiful as she is imo she has very little charisma

by Anonymousreply 48April 9, 2021 10:46 PM

The nude scene clearly paid off. She basically inherited Jennifer Lawrence's career.

by Anonymousreply 49April 9, 2021 10:52 PM

Robert Pattinson and Michael B. Jordan. I feel like we see these guys everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 50April 10, 2021 1:57 PM

Zac Efron keeps getting movies so either his agent is God or he takes his pants off at the audition.

by Anonymousreply 51April 10, 2021 3:29 PM

I think he's just very professional and a pleasant guy, plus still has fans from his HSM days and is willing to challenge himself

by Anonymousreply 52April 10, 2021 3:33 PM

The rumours about Margot having to use the casting couch before she even got WoWS doesn't seem far-fetched. And it's apparently the reason why she started her own production company so that other actresses don't have to go through what she did.

And it's not like Zac is starring in anything of substance. It's all popcorn shit.

by Anonymousreply 53April 11, 2021 6:19 AM

The aussie thing is tired. Next.

by Anonymousreply 54April 11, 2021 6:35 AM

Before the cancellation - Armie Hammer. Dude had a full slate of work. How/why did that happen?

r22 I think they produce too so create their own projects?

by Anonymousreply 55April 11, 2021 6:59 AM

R55: If it wasn't for the cancellation, I don't think they would ever stop trying to make Hannibal happen. Despite all the box office flops and the acting prowess of a block of wood, he was tall and handsome and they were determined to make that happen. If I had to guess why he a full slate of work, he either helped with the financing or used the casting couch.

You're right that they produce so that they have creative control over their projects. Margot started her own production company because all actresses of a certain age have to do that unless you're Meryl or a big box office type like Julia or Sandy. Margot is the it girl now but the it girl has a short window in Hollywood. She actually was smart to go into producing now. By the time she's in her 40s, she'll be executing producing and cranking out tv shows all the time - i.e, Reese, Nicole, Jessica Chastain, Natalie Portman, etc.

by Anonymousreply 56April 11, 2021 1:52 PM
James Corden keeps getting magazine covers and big roles despite being completely talent-free and hideous. I'm starting to think he's blackmailing every top producer in Hollywood; there is no other logical explanation.

How, by threatening to sit on them?

by Anonymousreply 57April 11, 2021 1:58 PM

Cate Blanchett. Good actress but not so good that she needs to be in everything.

by Anonymousreply 58April 11, 2021 4:35 PM

Please don’t tell me by the time he’s in his 30s Timothee will have an Adam Driver career.

by Anonymousreply 59April 11, 2021 4:36 PM

Lily Rose Depp. Dear Hollywood, put her in as many films as you like but the public has never been interested and never will be interested in this nepotism spawn.

by Anonymousreply 60April 11, 2021 4:41 PM

Cynthia Erivo. She's a mediocre actress and hard to look at. Why is she popping up everywhere it doesn't make sense?

by Anonymousreply 61April 11, 2021 8:28 PM
I don't think they would ever stop trying to make Hannibal happen.

Well they got that Clarice show starring another Aussie actress. But i don't think they're allowed to mention Hannibal's name.

by Anonymousreply 62April 12, 2021 11:39 AM

Bono’s basic looking daughter, Eve Hewson. She is boring. Her acting is only passable. She is nothing special or look at. Good agent or daddy buying her a career?

by Anonymousreply 63April 12, 2021 9:08 PM

Ryan Gosling is not particularly handsome and has proven that he’s no box office draw. I mean how many more chances are they gonna give this guy?

by Anonymousreply 64April 13, 2021 2:39 PM

Zoe Kravitz has the charisma of a damp rag. Why do they want us to choke on her? Why is she everywhere?

by Anonymousreply 65May 2, 2021 3:50 AM

DiCaprio works without an agent so technically I guess he doesn’t count. Still though, he’s played Leonardo DiCaprio for 25 years. The world’s most overrated actor. The credit goes to Rick Yorn, his manager.

by Anonymousreply 66May 2, 2021 3:51 AM

Agents can do everything for everybody, no matter how much one pays them.

That is my observation.

by Anonymousreply 67May 2, 2021 3:56 AM

Michael B. Jordan is so ugly and yet he thinks he’s a god.

by Anonymousreply 68May 2, 2021 4:30 PM

Charlize Theron

by Anonymousreply 69May 5, 2021 8:48 PM

JLaw is going the route of Leo with a whole management team if attorneys that make deals and take a huge commission.

And no actor or actress is penalized for working with Harvey. Maybe Rose McGowan for being a nut.

by Anonymousreply 70May 5, 2021 8:56 PM

I must be in the minority, because I really like Timothee. Not classically handsome, but cute and I find him very talented. He could grow into good character roles. His choices are always somewhat interesting and surprising and he hasn't done some dumb Marvel movie yet.

by Anonymousreply 71May 5, 2021 8:58 PM

R70: She filmed four studio films prior to Weinstein’s arrest in May 2018. They were all critical and commercial failures. She can’t open and carry a film. That’s why she was paired with real stars like DiCaprio, Blanchett, and Streep on Don’t Look Up. Studios started avoiding her and her high salary fee. Furthermore, CAA dumped her. She knew her career was in trouble and came up with some bullshit PR ploy about fixing democracy in order to explain her absence.

She started a production company to get work. Her career as a producer has been a total failure. She financed and executive produced the indie film Red, White, and Water. The film needs extensive reshoots that are supposed to start this summer. The only other projects she has on deck are Bad Blood and Mob Girl and those films aren’t even close to filming. She has a lot of money going out and hardly any coming in.

by Anonymousreply 72May 5, 2021 9:12 PM

Kevin Huvane clients

The Bronx-born bus driver’s son who is now managing partner of CAA, he’s guided the careers of stellar clients including Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Aniston, Vin Diesel, Chris Evans, Ryan Murphy, Sandra Bullock, Viola Davis, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker (the first on his roster) and Meryl Streep while helping to drive his agency’s expansion.

by Anonymousreply 73May 5, 2021 9:14 PM

"Michael B. Jordan is so ugly and yet he thinks he’s a god."

Turn in your gay card!

by Anonymousreply 74May 5, 2021 9:54 PM

Can you all help me out? How does being a producer of a film stop a sleazy director or casting agent from getting an actor or actress to present hole for a role? Do the producers hire all the key players and control things? If so, how the fuck does Bryan Singer get to blatantly bring porn stars and wanna be actor twinks onto sets. Not to mention, that pedo shower scene he did and no doubt beats off to wih his guests at his parties?

by Anonymousreply 75May 5, 2021 10:19 PM

Jesus, Jennifer Lawrence isn’t done. What is she, 29?

by Anonymousreply 76May 5, 2021 10:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 77May 5, 2021 10:43 PM

One of the bigger Hollywood agents is from my town in Ireland.

Hylda Queally is an agent for Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Lupita Nyong'o, and Michelle Williams, among others. I have no idea whether she's a good agent or fortunate to have talented clients. Bit of both I suppose.

Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan are both interesting cases in that they are very good for their type, yet they have yet to prove if they will be able to sustain their careers when they age into the next 'type'. Right now Saoirse is an ingenue and has yet to move into leading lady roles (or at least she is most known for her ingenue roles, ie., Brooklyn, Ladybird, Little Women, and has been less successful at her attempts to play more mature roles) and TC tracks even younger than Ronan. Will TC be able to transition to more mature roles like DiCaprio did? Similarly, will Ronan get stuck as an ingenue like Winona Ryder? I think they are both very good at what they do and are worthy of the praise they receive, still I would suspect that Lucas Hedges' career might have more staying power than TC.

by Anonymousreply 79May 5, 2021 10:55 PM

R76: She’s 30 and in actress years that’s old.

by Anonymousreply 80May 5, 2021 10:58 PM

R80 it is not. Nicole plays the mother of toddlers. Sandy was pregnant in her Netflix picture.

by Anonymousreply 81May 5, 2021 11:02 PM

And some would say DiCaprio hasn't aged well into his new type either. There's something about his face that still makes me think I'm watching a little kid playing dress up in his dad's clothes. He's got some lines, wrinkles, and some middle aged bloat and he still looks like a teenager to me.

by Anonymousreply 82May 6, 2021 12:31 AM

R82: He can’t act either. Overrated as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 83May 6, 2021 1:34 AM

I never understood DiCaprio’s appeal. I just don’t get it. The same, I don’t know how anyone could say something nice about Saoirse Ronan. It completely escapes me.

by Anonymousreply 84May 6, 2021 4:47 AM

R35 in the same way Adam Driver has Big Dick Energy, Armie Hammer had tiny meat energy. Always comes across wet, punchable and wooden on screen. Made Call Me By Your Name unsexy and predatory. Without Timothee, who carried all the scenes, the film would have been unwatchable.

How did he have all those jobs he subsequently lost when accused of rape? All the replacements were 100x better than him when they were cast.

by Anonymousreply 85May 6, 2021 5:36 AM

I don’t think Timotay has ever carried a film

by Anonymousreply 86May 6, 2021 6:35 AM

R79: In regards to Timothee, he’ll probably get a few more teen heartthrob roles and then work less frequently. He only appeals to young, teenage girls. He’s not star material. His talent is debatable and you just don’t buy him as a mature man because of his unconventional looks.

Also, I think he’s becoming more and more of a celebrity and less and less of an actor. The media is partially to blame for the overexposure but I think his actions all point to more celebrity and less focus on the craft. The fauxmances, the fashionista status, the partying in the midst of a global pandemic, the hanging out with Pete Davidson and Kid Cudi, and the pap walks in the city.

by Anonymousreply 87May 6, 2021 6:33 PM

He’ll get work as long as he’s skinny and non threatening. Hollywood needs a skinny, non threatening type to pull the 15 year old girls in.

by Anonymousreply 88May 6, 2021 6:46 PM

I've only seen her in OUATIH, she gave a good performance with almost no lines. Her job was to be the embodiment of life, of sunshine, and she did it.

by Anonymousreply 89May 6, 2021 7:01 PM

Nicole Kidman own this thread. Immobile plastic face, weird hybrid accent and speech patterns, zero onscreen charisma. And a distracting personal life (multiple adopted kids she never talks about, multiple marriages to gay men, former Scientologist). A mess.

by Anonymousreply 90May 6, 2021 7:08 PM

R87 Are you a Bot? You said the exact same thing on another board. Your posting history suggests your a little more than extremely obsessed with a man you say only appeals to young teens. Did you know Timothee has thousands of middle aged fans on Facebook and millions on Instagram? Whenever his shows premiere he has many age groups, genders.

Anyway, just for others who are interested in your obsession here’s what you posted earlier (see below)

by Anonymousreply 91May 6, 2021 7:22 PM

Here’s r87’s near duplicate post:

“ Timothee Chalamet to co-host the Met Ball in September My guess is he’ll get a few more teen heartthrob roles and then fade away. He’s not star material. His talent is debatable and because of his looks you just don’t buy him as a mature man. Furthermore, he appeals only to young teenage girls. DiCaprio, Julia, Clooney, etc became stars because they had that spark and appealed to everybody.

Also, remember the old days when he said he wanted to work with great directors and challenge himself as an actor. Yeah that didn’t last very long. He got overexposed and caught up in his own celebrity. I suppose the non stop media cheerleading is partially to blame for that but he’s still a fame whore. The fauxmances, partying in the middle of a pandemic, hanging out with fellow uggo Pete Davidson and Kid Cudi, his fashionista status, and doing countless pap walks in the city.”

You posted that a few days ago. What’s with the copy and paste, do you have a folder?

by Anonymousreply 92May 6, 2021 7:23 PM

R92: I don’t know how the fuck you managed to dig up my posting history and I don’t really care. It’s beyond creepy. You’re the one who clearly has an obsessive, on the spectrum disorder. So why don’t you fuck off and let me write what I want to write on here, ok?

by Anonymousreply 93May 6, 2021 7:27 PM

Timmy’s been spotted in nyc again. Man, does he travel a lot

by Anonymousreply 94May 6, 2021 8:15 PM

R93 look you can relax. I just noticed I’d read that same thing before. Write what you want. It’s just weird on a forum to copy and paste the same rant repeatedly. Are you hoping it will make a difference? Why so obsessed with him? Did he ignore you once?

by Anonymousreply 95May 6, 2021 8:17 PM

@r41 I think it’s the other way around. Timothee has very niche fame, the type that is fleeting. With Spider-Man, Holland has solidified a place in movie history that, as we have seen in the past, can keep an actor afloat for their entire lives. He is making money Chalamet can only dream of, he is world famous which is bankable (nobody in China knows Chalamet, everyone knows Holland’s face), and he still gets prestige roles. I think when all is said and done, Tim will be a flash in the pan and Tom will have lasted. People in the industry seem to genuinely love Tom, and he’s at least a better actor than timothee as Tom has to put on a convincing American accent for every role, which he definitely pulls off. I’m not sure I’ve seen timothee pull off much successful “acting”. The connections he’s made leading marvels most iconic character as it’s enmeshed into Disney’s marvel cinematic universe probably turns Chalamet green with envy.

by Anonymousreply 96May 6, 2021 8:31 PM

Timothay is going to be like most guys who appeal to early teen girls with their boyish prettiness, he's going to turn into a gnome some time shortly after his 30th birthday.

Sorry, Timmy Stans, he's not going to mature into a leading man type, he's just too small and slight and odd looking.

by Anonymousreply 97May 7, 2021 2:05 AM

Harry Styles. First acting role was second lead in Nolan's Dunkirk. Second and third are lead roles. No acting experience prior to Dunkirk at all.

by Anonymousreply 98May 7, 2021 3:40 AM

Timothee is already playing leading man roles. Lawrence in Little Women for instance and Paul in Dune, as well as the lead in The King.

by Anonymousreply 99May 7, 2021 3:44 AM

Renee Zellweger her 2nd Oscar was a surprise

by Anonymousreply 100May 7, 2021 3:52 AM

Everyone in Hollywood knows that R16 is not true. Timmy does not give the best blow jobs ever.

by Anonymousreply 101May 7, 2021 3:53 AM

R85 You're spot on about Hammer, but you left out one other consistent characteristic: mean. He always comes across as an asshole on screen, no matter the role. Wonder why that is... As to why he got so many roles, I guess the posters here missed the news that he was blackmailing his agent, who was cheating on his wife. That might have had something to do with it.

by Anonymousreply 102May 7, 2021 4:08 AM

I didn't know an agent could have that much power over the casting process, now it makes sense why actors are willing to give away such a significant percentage of their earnings to these people.

by Anonymousreply 103May 7, 2021 4:23 AM

R97 He's got good bone structure (and an excellent agent) so I wouldn't count him out. If Tobey Maguire and Miles Teller could be leading men, anything can happen in Hollywood. Neither Al Pacino nor Dustin Hoffman are physically imposing, but they've had very long careers. Come to think of it, neither is Leo. It might all come down to the fan base.

by Anonymousreply 104May 7, 2021 4:25 AM

R97 except he looks better as he’s aging. He’s also gaining more gravitas. I think he’ll mature like Al Pacino did and Pitt has. All the leading male actors were pretty boys. Gyllenhaal, Diacaprio, Depp etc. Timothee is no different to them.

by Anonymousreply 105May 7, 2021 4:29 AM

R102 God that’s right. Armie will never work in Hollywood again if he’s blackmailing agents. Although I guess his friend Tyler who is a former casting agent could step in and help him.

by Anonymousreply 106May 7, 2021 4:31 AM

R89 No, she just had no lines.

by Anonymousreply 107May 7, 2021 6:07 AM

R98: Well his musical career certainly helped with that. Now they’re shoving him down our throats. We live in an era of mediocre, ugly white boys like him and Mouseboy. It’s never going to change until we the audience demand that Hollywood actually give us talented and good looking men.

by Anonymousreply 108May 7, 2021 12:26 PM
Timothee Chalamet owns this thread.

Agreed. One doesn't get a sense he's strained very hard for success, compared to other actors who carry a reputation for having worked half to death for it.

by Anonymousreply 109May 7, 2021 12:41 PM
probably turns Chalamet green with envy.

Don't think so. What actor wants to go their grave with Marvel on their tombstone? FFS! They don't just want to do superhero PAP & CRAP for Chinese megahordes and dumfuck fratboys, however well paid: they want to do meaningful stuff.

by Anonymousreply 110May 7, 2021 12:47 PM

Uh oh—this became the Timotay thread, I see.

by Anonymousreply 111May 7, 2021 1:41 PM

"What actor wants to go their grave with Marvel on their tombstone?"

Every actor in Hollywood wants a place on the Marvel gravy train! They want those hits on their resume!

Zac Efron allegedly got that horrible chin implant because he thought he could land a superhero franchise film if he had a stronger jaw.

by Anonymousreply 112May 7, 2021 3:15 PM

R104: Where are Tobey Maguire and Miles Teller now? He gets work because Hollywood needs a skinny, non threatening type to pull in the 15 year old girls. That only lasts for so long and loses value over time. He’s just not star material. He and Jennifer Lawrence were media creations and not discoveries. They were forced on the public.

by Anonymousreply 113May 7, 2021 3:27 PM
He and Jennifer Lawrence were media creations and not discoveries. They were forced on the public.

This. I would also throw in Billie Eyelash from the musical end of the industry plant spectrum. No one buys that recent "empowered" photo shoot with Vanity Fair that made her look like a peroxide playboy bunny from the 1950's, other than her ridiculous stans' whisper singing stupidity.

by Anonymousreply 114May 7, 2021 3:37 PM

Lawrence is a surprisingly good actress.

And Eilish and her brother are stupendously talented. Only a fool would think otherwise. I Love You, for example, is timeless.

R115 only uncultured children consider that t "talented" singing because it reminds them of Mommy humming them a bedtime tune at 8:30. I'm sad for the music industry in 2021. THIS is singing: 15 years of drug use and she can still SING. Billie's voice takes no skill, effort, or t-a-l-e-n-t whatsoever. The end.
Margot's nude scene in WoWS was completely unnecessary. There's no way she didn't have to do something to get where she's at. It's sad.

How would Margot Robbie, basically an unknown at the time, have had one wit of power to insist on a nude scene? That's ridiculous.

She is very ambitious and works very hard. That's how she has succeeded - well and she is talented and good looking. I also think she has been more than willing to vary her roles and unafraid to look unpretty. Accusing her of sleeping her way in is just sexist and insulting. People seem to hate women who take control of and responsibility for their careers despite their faux outrage in faux solidarity with those women who seem to do nothing but cry victim.

Further, to even suggest that Tarantino is in the same category as Weinstein is just plain dishonest. Even comparing Russell to Weinstein is dishonest and lazy. Weinstein was not just an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 117May 7, 2021 4:13 PM

Frances McDormand

by Anonymousreply 118May 7, 2021 4:33 PM

Not to take away from McDormand's talent, but she did marry rather well.

by Anonymousreply 119May 7, 2021 4:51 PM

R35 finally someone (gay) that understands!

Nobody is saying Adam is a classical male beauty. Its just he's tall, got huge hands and a BDF! His body also looked great in the SW movies. I bet his big dong can't even fit into his big hands.

And, yes, he's a great actor.

by Anonymousreply 121May 8, 2021 10:31 PM

Tom Holland owns this.

He's cute in Spiderman but cringe in all the Avengers. For such minimal talent and weird pinched looks, He's in everything.

Also all His latest films have all flopped so don't think he has any appeal outside Spiderman.

by Anonymousreply 122May 9, 2021 6:59 AM

Why would CAA drop Jennifer Lawrence?

by Anonymousreply 123May 9, 2021 8:02 AM

R117 what are you talking about?? Where did i say that she insisted on doing a nude scene?? And this may come as a shock to you, but being talented doesn't automatically guarantee you an a-list career. She didn't have alot of credits before landing WoWS. The rumour is that she was [bold]forced[/bold] to do things and that is one of the reasons why she started her production company, so that other actresses wouldn't have to go through what she did.

by Anonymousreply 124May 9, 2021 9:49 AM

Bless the Whitney fan, R116. If belting the heart out of a song for the sake of making a noise, without the slightest sense of interpretation or emotional empathy counts as great singing, rather than mere celebrity, then she’s the greatest singer who ever shrieked on the planet.

by Anonymousreply 125May 9, 2021 10:18 AM

R123: She filmed four studio films with her as the lead prior to Weinstein’s arrest. They were all critical and commercial failures. She can’t open a film and she knows it. Studios started avoiding her and her high salary fee. The 8th grade dropout claimed she was “fixing democracy” in order to explain her absence. That’s why CAA dumped her.

by Anonymousreply 126May 9, 2021 12:13 PM

R122: Having 43 million IG followers doesn’t mean shit. It just comes with playing an iconic character. He and his team want to prove that he can handle substantive roles once the Spider-Man gig is up. He wants to dethrone Mouseboy. As to why somebody so mediocre has gotten so far, I guess maybe his daddy helped a little bit.

by Anonymousreply 127May 9, 2021 12:36 PM

Harry Styles doesn't get parts just because of his social media followers, especially as he doesn't post about the films except one tweet about Dunkirk. Liam Payne has the same amount of followers and says he has auditioned for several roles and always got turned down.

by Anonymousreply 128May 9, 2021 3:56 PM

I assume Ryan Seacrest has been mentioned.

by Anonymousreply 129May 9, 2021 5:36 PM

^^ You’re right about Tom Holland’s non Marvel movies flopping. Just goes to show Instagram followers don’t mean shit.

by Anonymousreply 130May 10, 2021 11:48 AM

"Jennifer Lawrence" sounds like a movie star name made up for a pulp novel by Jackie Collins.

by Anonymousreply 131May 10, 2021 2:30 PM

Seth Rogen - a talentless chump whose entire image revolves around being a slovenly stoner and Franco’s enabler. But hey he’s got a great agent and/or publicist.

by Anonymousreply 132May 10, 2021 3:56 PM

Chris Pratt looks like an average Joe from a bumfuck town and he’s in all the Marvel, big-budget studio films.

by Anonymousreply 133May 10, 2021 10:20 PM

R133 and his brother is a 3%er sheriff in the Bay Area. He and some buddies advertised gear for sale on their social media with 3%er iconography. But no, couldn’t possibly be racist, right?

by Anonymousreply 134May 11, 2021 4:44 AM

R133 he played one in Jennifer's Body 😆. I'm sure that wasn't the first time.

by Anonymousreply 135May 11, 2021 5:49 AM

Janelle Monae - she can’t act and she’s not that pretty either.

Regina King - I think she’s getting a little overrated now. One Night in Miami flopped and she already has another directing gig lined up.

by Anonymousreply 136May 12, 2021 6:52 PM

Until recently, Armie Hammer.

by Anonymousreply 137May 12, 2021 6:58 PM

Armie had Shotgun Wedding, a leading role in the Paramount+ series The Offer, the Starz series Gaslit, the Broadway play 15 Minutes, and Billion Dollar Spy.

...Who was this guy fucking?

by Anonymousreply 138May 12, 2021 7:21 PM

Amanda Seyfried

by Anonymousreply 139May 13, 2021 3:42 PM

Julia Roberts. Look at the list of horrible movies on her c.v.

by Anonymousreply 140May 13, 2021 5:03 PM

R140: The poor dear now has to do television with Sean Penn and Reese Witherspoon while I still get to do movies with Brad Pitt.

by Anonymousreply 141May 13, 2021 5:05 PM

No one has mentioned Kristen Stewart? I state my case.

I remember someone on DL said that Australians are very star-struck and ambitious. Well, Margot Robbie certainly fits the bill. She has worked with some talented, but controversial figures. She would probably even work with the likes of Harvey Weinstein, Woody Allen, Roman Polanski and Bill Cosby if she knew she wouldn't have to answer any tough questions.

by Anonymousreply 143August 26, 2021 1:06 AM

Sharon Tate died so Margot Robbie could live!

by Anonymousreply 144August 26, 2021 1:58 AM

R125, you're a tone deaf moron. Whitney had the most versatile voice and the most moving, instinctive interpretive sense of any singer of the last 40 years. Her voice was one of the greatest instruments music has ever heard. Nitwit vulgarians like you just don't have the taste to appreciate her.

by Anonymousreply 145August 26, 2021 2:21 AM

I only remember a couple times in which Margot Robbie was given anything remotely above a softball. One was at Cannes when she was asked by a reporter about how weak her characterization was in OUATIH. The other was at a Q&A screening for OUATIH in LA - and someone in the crowd asked her about Tarantino being an asshole. Both times she was like a deer in headlights.

by Anonymousreply 146August 26, 2021 2:35 AM

Yeah, I'm sure Margot would love to work with people like Polanski and other talented, but truly awful people, but all the questions and controversy would just be too much and not really worth it.

by Anonymousreply 147August 26, 2021 2:42 AM

r147 Polanski would probably try to rape her because she played his deceased wife.

by Anonymousreply 148August 26, 2021 2:49 AM

I’ve seen her in a few movies now and I don’t know why she’s talked about. She was also the worst part of the movies she was Oscar nominated for

by Anonymousreply 149August 26, 2021 3:03 AM

It’s hilarious when a troll gets outed and you see how many fucking times they posted in a thread.

Damn…

by Anonymousreply 150August 26, 2021 3:09 AM

R110, plenty of very highly regarded actors have had no problem whatsoever with a stint in the Marvel pantheon.

Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't - but whatever you think of the films as films (I like some of them, am indifferent to most of them) Marvel has a reputation for being a quality product of its type.

by Anonymousreply 151August 26, 2021 8:55 AM
Both times she was like a deer in headlights.

I would be too. Surprised she's working with David O Russell.

by Anonymousreply 152August 27, 2021 10:49 AM

Dakota Johnson and Jonah Hil.

by Anonymousreply 153January 18, 2022 4:19 AM

R153 something about Jonah Hill annoys the HELL out of me. He’s not that good of an actor—definitely wonder why he gets roles.

by Anonymousreply 154January 19, 2022 5:21 AM

Margot Robbie is very ambitious and one of those "go along to get along" types that the industry loves.

by Anonymousreply 155May 12, 2022 11:33 AM

Adam Driver.

by Anonymousreply 156May 12, 2022 11:41 AM

After watching his video testimony in the Depp trial, I'm amazed Christian Carino has any clients.

by Anonymousreply 157May 12, 2022 4:41 PM

R155 that much is obvious considering all of the men she works with.

by Anonymousreply 158May 13, 2022 4:19 PM

To post #4: He said Margot was just another hot blonde from a straightforward looks standpoint, not everything else. She does have a cheerful, movie star demeanor, plus (onscreen) dark sexuality.

by Anonymousreply 159June 9, 2022 3:42 PM

Margot may not be as neurotic as someone like Carey Mulligan, but I'm sure she has her issues (pretty much every actor and actress is damaged in some way).

by Anonymousreply 160June 9, 2022 3:46 PM

I have no idea how Rose Leslie landed her own show at this point in her career. She was so awful on The Good Fight, the whole fandom breathed a sigh of relief when the Kings dropped her.

How the hell is she more successful than her husband?
