Margot Robbie: Average at best, yet keeps getting cast in big movies and working with top Hollywood directors. Looks can only get you so far, so her agent must be out of this world. She's like the female Brad Pitt.
Actors/actresses with the best agents?
by Anonymous | reply 161 | June 9, 2022 11:51 PM |
It’s Margot Robbie’s dark sexuality on screen and her cheerful, unflustered public demeanour that get her hired, not her looks (which, while considerably blonde and hot are the equal of every other blonde and hot woman in Hollywood). She’s not neurotic and self-pitying like Carey Mulligan.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 3, 2021 2:12 PM |
Margot is currently in the Cameron Diaz/Jennifer Lawrence seat in Hollywood. Even she knows she only has a few years left as the it girl. She was smart to go into producing now.

Adam Driver owns this thread. Yes he’s a solid actor but nothing to write home about. For someone so ugly and so charisma free, he sure does get a lot of high profile movies. Who is making it happen for him and why?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 3, 2021 2:21 PM |
I've met Margot, she's not "just another blonde"; she's GORGEOUS and genuinely very warm and nice.
I'm a nobody and asked for a selfie and she engaged in polite conversation and really didn't need to.
Saw Julia Robert's at the same event and they both radiated that magnetic "star power" that the true "movie stars" have. Margot has it.

Jennifer Lawrence. Girl is neither talented nor pretty and has the charm of a cockroach.

R6: She’s the Kamala Harris of Hollywood. Now that Harvey Weinstein and his cock are in jail, she can’t readily get prestige parts or even get invited to an Oscar party. It’s all about Margot Robbie.

Why on earth? Was she refusing to act? CAA is all about packaging, did she not want to be parcelled up into a supporting role in a Christopher Nolan film?

R9: She should've headlined arthouse films and taken small, supporting roles in big studio films. Hollywood sold her as the next Julia Roberts but with the acting prowess of Meryl Streep. After her oscar win, her ego got in the way and she started demanding $15-20 million to headline a studio film even with her limited talent.

I don’t necessarily know if his agent was responsible but Bradley Cooper’s success and his sudden consecutive Oscar nominations all at once was definitely the work of somebody.

Margot Robbie and Zendaya are two incredibly beautiful women. Their talent is debatable but the camera loves them, so I can see why they keep getting work, even if it is in stuff I'd never see. I agree with R3. I think he's a fine actor (great at times) but he is so ugly to my eyes. I find him repulsive on a big screen.

I think Timothee Chalamet gets work because Hollywood needs a skinny, non-threatening type to pull in the young girls. He doesn't have a lot of competition. It will be interesting to see if he's still working in ten years.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 5, 2021 5:21 AM |
Adam Driver is interesting to look at. No one would ever say that he was "plain." People need a reason to keep looking at the screen. Consider the cast of Schitts Creek: Eugene Levy is not handsome, Catherine O'Hara is no great beauty, etc. The daughter is conventionally attractive at best but entirely forgettable. If you aren't some great, outstanding beauty (and few are), then you need to at least be interesting.
Driver is so ugly that it's interesting (to me).
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 5, 2021 5:47 AM |
R31: My guess is he’ll stick with the teen heartthrob roles for as long as possible. He’s just one of these people you don’t buy as a “mature” man. I agree with you on why he gets work. It’s certainly not his talent or looks that’s getting him these roles.

oMG
I got a boner (sitting next to my fat frau sister-in-law) in the movie theater the first time I saw Adam Driver on the big screen as Kylo Ren; he's got the epitome of BDF (big Dick face) and the swagger of only someone whose carrying a baby's leg in their shorts!!
Have you seen the size of his hands, combined with that massive nose, lean tall frame = dude is packing a WHOPPER.
Adam Driver adds a unspoken sexiness to any film he's in because of that big Dick energy that radiates from the screen.
PLUS he served in the Marines and can only imagine the staring that occurred while he showered with the guys.
YUM !

About the nudity in Wolf of Wall Street: Margot said mixed things about it in interviews at the time. "I came up with it" "my agent talked me into it" "I had to get drunk to go through with it" "I lied to my family and said it was a body double." The bottom line is that it was completely gratuitous and kind of a shame that it was her breakout role. She still plays objectifying roles (with the most egregious being the first Suicide Squad).
It's also weird that she produces a movie like Promising Young Woman, yet has no problem working with Quentin Tarantino and David O. Russell (two men who are just one step above the likes of Harvey Weinstein).

R37: Just like everybody else in Hollywood, she’s an opportunist. Right now she gets offered everything and she’s making the most of it. She’ll work with anybody to advance her career as long as it’s convenient. Once the rest of the Hollywood hypocrites denounce these filmmakers, she’ll follow suit.

The rumours about Margot having to use the casting couch before she even got WoWS doesn't seem far-fetched. And it's apparently the reason why she started her own production company so that other actresses don't have to go through what she did.

R55: If it wasn't for the cancellation, I don't think they would ever stop trying to make Hannibal happen. Despite all the box office flops and the acting prowess of a block of wood, he was tall and handsome and they were determined to make that happen. If I had to guess why he a full slate of work, he either helped with the financing or used the casting couch.
You're right that they produce so that they have creative control over their projects. Margot started her own production company because all actresses of a certain age have to do that unless you're Meryl or a big box office type like Julia or Sandy. Margot is the it girl now but the it girl has a short window in Hollywood. She actually was smart to go into producing now. By the time she's in her 40s, she'll be executing producing and cranking out tv shows all the time - i.e, Reese, Nicole, Jessica Chastain, Natalie Portman, etc.

R70: She filmed four studio films prior to Weinstein’s arrest in May 2018. They were all critical and commercial failures. She can’t open and carry a film. That’s why she was paired with real stars like DiCaprio, Blanchett, and Streep on Don’t Look Up. Studios started avoiding her and her high salary fee. Furthermore, CAA dumped her. She knew her career was in trouble and came up with some bullshit PR ploy about fixing democracy in order to explain her absence.
She started a production company to get work. Her career as a producer has been a total failure. She financed and executive produced the indie film Red, White, and Water. The film needs extensive reshoots that are supposed to start this summer. The only other projects she has on deck are Bad Blood and Mob Girl and those films aren’t even close to filming. She has a lot of money going out and hardly any coming in.

Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan are both interesting cases in that they are very good for their type, yet they have yet to prove if they will be able to sustain their careers when they age into the next 'type'. Right now Saoirse is an ingenue and has yet to move into leading lady roles (or at least she is most known for her ingenue roles, ie., Brooklyn, Ladybird, Little Women, and has been less successful at her attempts to play more mature roles) and TC tracks even younger than Ronan. Will TC be able to transition to more mature roles like DiCaprio did? Similarly, will Ronan get stuck as an ingenue like Winona Ryder? I think they are both very good at what they do and are worthy of the praise they receive, still I would suspect that Lucas Hedges' career might have more staying power than TC.

Also, I think he’s becoming more and more of a celebrity and less and less of an actor. The media is partially to blame for the overexposure but I think his actions all point to more celebrity and less focus on the craft. The fauxmances, the fashionista status, the partying in the midst of a global pandemic, the hanging out with Pete Davidson and Kid Cudi, and the pap walks in the city.

His talent is debatable and because of his looks you just don’t buy him as a mature man. Furthermore, he appeals only to young teenage girls. DiCaprio, Julia, Clooney, etc became stars because they had that spark and appealed to everybody.
Also, remember the old days when he said he wanted to work with great directors and challenge himself as an actor. Yeah that didn’t last very long. He got overexposed and caught up in his own celebrity. I suppose the non stop media cheerleading is partially to blame for that but he’s still a fame whore. The fauxmances, partying in the middle of a pandemic, hanging out with fellow uggo Pete Davidson and Kid Cudi, his fashionista status, and doing countless pap walks in the city.”

@r41 I think it’s the other way around. Timothee has very niche fame, the type that is fleeting. With Spider-Man, Holland has solidified a place in movie history that, as we have seen in the past, can keep an actor afloat for their entire lives. He is making money Chalamet can only dream of, he is world famous which is bankable (nobody in China knows Chalamet, everyone knows Holland’s face), and he still gets prestige roles. I think when all is said and done, Tim will be a flash in the pan and Tom will have lasted. People in the industry seem to genuinely love Tom, and he’s at least a better actor than timothee as Tom has to put on a convincing American accent for every role, which he definitely pulls off. I’m not sure I’ve seen timothee pull off much successful “acting”. The connections he’s made leading marvels most iconic character as it’s enmeshed into Disney’s marvel cinematic universe probably turns Chalamet green with envy.

As to why he got so many roles, I guess the posters here missed the news that he was blackmailing his agent, who was cheating on his wife. That might have had something to do with it.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | May 7, 2021 4:08 AM |
I didn't know an agent could have that much power over the casting process, now it makes sense why actors are willing to give away such a significant percentage of their earnings to these people.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | May 7, 2021 4:23 AM |
R97 He's got good bone structure (and an excellent agent) so I wouldn't count him out. If Tobey Maguire and Miles Teller could be leading men, anything can happen in Hollywood. Neither Al Pacino nor Dustin Hoffman are physically imposing, but they've had very long careers. Come to think of it, neither is Leo. It might all come down to the fan base.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | May 7, 2021 4:25 AM |
R97 except he looks better as he’s aging. He’s also gaining more gravitas. I think he’ll mature like Al Pacino did and Pitt has. All the leading male actors were pretty boys. Gyllenhaal, Diacaprio, Depp etc. Timothee is no different to them.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | May 7, 2021 4:29 AM |
R102 God that’s right. Armie will never work in Hollywood again if he’s blackmailing agents. Although I guess his friend Tyler who is a former casting agent could step in and help him.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | May 7, 2021 4:31 AM |
R89 No, she just had no lines.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | May 7, 2021 6:07 AM |
R98: Well his musical career certainly helped with that. Now they’re shoving him down our throats. We live in an era of mediocre, ugly white boys like him and Mouseboy. It’s never going to change until we the audience demand that Hollywood actually give us talented and good looking men.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | May 7, 2021 12:26 PM |
Timothee Chalamet owns this thread.
Agreed. One doesn't get a sense he's strained very hard for success, compared to other actors who carry a reputation for having worked half to death for it.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | May 7, 2021 12:41 PM |
probably turns Chalamet green with envy.
Don't think so. What actor wants to go their grave with Marvel on their tombstone? FFS! They don't just want to do superhero PAP & CRAP for Chinese megahordes and dumfuck fratboys, however well paid: they want to do meaningful stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | May 7, 2021 12:47 PM |
Uh oh—this became the Timotay thread, I see.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | May 7, 2021 1:41 PM |
"What actor wants to go their grave with Marvel on their tombstone?"
Every actor in Hollywood wants a place on the Marvel gravy train! They want those hits on their resume!
Zac Efron allegedly got that horrible chin implant because he thought he could land a superhero franchise film if he had a stronger jaw.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | May 7, 2021 3:15 PM |
R104: Where are Tobey Maguire and Miles Teller now? He gets work because Hollywood needs a skinny, non threatening type to pull in the 15 year old girls. That only lasts for so long and loses value over time. He’s just not star material. He and Jennifer Lawrence were media creations and not discoveries. They were forced on the public.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | May 7, 2021 3:27 PM |

This. I would also throw in Billie Eyelash from the musical end of the industry plant spectrum. No one buys that recent "empowered" photo shoot with Vanity Fair that made her look like a peroxide playboy bunny from the 1950's, other than her ridiculous stans' whisper singing stupidity.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | May 7, 2021 3:37 PM |
Lawrence is a surprisingly good actress.
And Eilish and her brother are stupendously talented. Only a fool would think otherwise. I Love You, for example, is timeless.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | May 7, 2021 3:47 PM |
R115 only uncultured children consider that t "talented" singing because it reminds them of Mommy humming them a bedtime tune at 8:30. I'm sad for the music industry in 2021. THIS is singing: 15 years of drug use and she can still SING. Billie's voice takes no skill, effort, or t-a-l-e-n-t whatsoever. The end.
Margot's nude scene in WoWS was completely unnecessary. There's no way she didn't have to do something to get where she's at. It's sad.
How would Margot Robbie, basically an unknown at the time, have had one wit of power to insist on a nude scene? That's ridiculous.
She is very ambitious and works very hard. That's how she has succeeded - well and she is talented and good looking. I also think she has been more than willing to vary her roles and unafraid to look unpretty. Accusing her of sleeping her way in is just sexist and insulting. People seem to hate women who take control of and responsibility for their careers despite their faux outrage in faux solidarity with those women who seem to do nothing but cry victim.
Further, to even suggest that Tarantino is in the same category as Weinstein is just plain dishonest. Even comparing Russell to Weinstein is dishonest and lazy. Weinstein was not just an asshole.

R35 finally someone (gay) that understands!
Nobody is saying Adam is a classical male beauty. Its just he's tall, got huge hands and a BDF! His body also looked great in the SW movies. I bet his big dong can't even fit into his big hands.
And, yes, he's a great actor.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | May 8, 2021 10:31 PM |
Tom Holland owns this.
He's cute in Spiderman but cringe in all the Avengers. For such minimal talent and weird pinched looks, He's in everything.
Also all His latest films have all flopped so don't think he has any appeal outside Spiderman.

Why would CAA drop Jennifer Lawrence?
by Anonymous | reply 123 | May 9, 2021 8:02 AM |
R117 what are you talking about?? Where did i say that she insisted on doing a nude scene?? And this may come as a shock to you, but being talented doesn't automatically guarantee you an a-list career. She didn't have alot of credits before landing WoWS. The rumour is that she was [bold]forced[/bold] to do things and that is one of the reasons why she started her production company, so that other actresses wouldn't have to go through what she did.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | May 9, 2021 9:49 AM |
Bless the Whitney fan, R116. If belting the heart out of a song for the sake of making a noise, without the slightest sense of interpretation or emotional empathy counts as great singing, rather than mere celebrity, then she’s the greatest singer who ever shrieked on the planet.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | May 9, 2021 10:18 AM |
R123: She filmed four studio films with her as the lead prior to Weinstein’s arrest. They were all critical and commercial failures. She can’t open a film and she knows it. Studios started avoiding her and her high salary fee. The 8th grade dropout claimed she was “fixing democracy” in order to explain her absence. That’s why CAA dumped her.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | May 9, 2021 12:13 PM |
R122: Having 43 million IG followers doesn’t mean shit. It just comes with playing an iconic character. He and his team want to prove that he can handle substantive roles once the Spider-Man gig is up. He wants to dethrone Mouseboy. As to why somebody so mediocre has gotten so far, I guess maybe his daddy helped a little bit.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | May 9, 2021 12:36 PM |
Harry Styles doesn't get parts just because of his social media followers, especially as he doesn't post about the films except one tweet about Dunkirk. Liam Payne has the same amount of followers and says he has auditioned for several roles and always got turned down.

Janelle Monae - she can’t act and she’s not that pretty either.
Regina King - I think she’s getting a little overrated now. One Night in Miami flopped and she already has another directing gig lined up.

I remember someone on DL said that Australians are very star-struck and ambitious. Well, Margot Robbie certainly fits the bill. She has worked with some talented, but controversial figures. She would probably even work with the likes of Harvey Weinstein, Woody Allen, Roman Polanski and Bill Cosby if she knew she wouldn't have to answer any tough questions.

Sharon Tate died so Margot Robbie could live!

R125, you're a tone deaf moron. Whitney had the most versatile voice and the most moving, instinctive interpretive sense of any singer of the last 40 years. Her voice was one of the greatest instruments music has ever heard. Nitwit vulgarians like you just don't have the taste to appreciate her.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | August 26, 2021 2:21 AM |
I only remember a couple times in which Margot Robbie was given anything remotely above a softball. One was at Cannes when she was asked by a reporter about how weak her characterization was in OUATIH. The other was at a Q&A screening for OUATIH in LA - and someone in the crowd asked her about Tarantino being an asshole. Both times she was like a deer in headlights.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | August 26, 2021 2:35 AM |
Yeah, I'm sure Margot would love to work with people like Polanski and other talented, but truly awful people, but all the questions and controversy would just be too much and not really worth it.

R110, plenty of very highly regarded actors have had no problem whatsoever with a stint in the Marvel pantheon.
Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't - but whatever you think of the films as films (I like some of them, am indifferent to most of them) Marvel has a reputation for being a quality product of its type.

How the hell is she more successful than her husband?
