Burning Every Bridge in Sight: Oprah Markle Viewing Thread, Part II
by Anonymous | reply 601 | March 8, 2021 8:24 PM |
If the Royal Family is called The Firm, then what is the name used for the backroom boys that run the lives of the Royal Family
Sarah Ferguson called them the "Grey Men"
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 8, 2021 2:05 AM |
Oh, hey. Am I early? Sorry! So can you at least open the bar for one drink?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 8, 2021 2:06 AM |
Did Charles watch?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 8, 2021 2:07 AM |
Charles undoubtedly watched from Highgrove, a giant whiskey in his hands, having flashbacks to 1995 and cursing the day he ever set eyes on that doe-eyed Spencer bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 8, 2021 2:09 AM |
All I got from this interview is that H&M got cut off from the family funds and decided to burn every bridge.
There will be no going back to the BRF for poor Prince Harry.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 8, 2021 2:09 AM |
Entitled, titleless cunts.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 8, 2021 2:11 AM |
Well, #2- it is the family busine$$.

Over half the people who comment in this thread will not have watched the interview. They're just here to bash Meghan.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 8, 2021 2:13 AM |
Stupid cow got it wrong ^^^
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 8, 2021 2:13 AM |
Someone said it in first thread, but I’m afraid Harry gonna have a short life like his mom. He seems pathetic, depressed and scared.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 8, 2021 2:14 AM |
I don’t care about the Royal Family but Meghan just did what her own father did to her. Selling out private family stories for cash and fame. But I feel for her because if she and Harry ever divorce he will turn on her so fast and have the royal family press machine work overtime.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 8, 2021 2:14 AM |
could somebody post a link to the interview?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 8, 2021 2:14 AM |
I'm calling it now: The new baby will be named Ariel Diana.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 8, 2021 2:14 AM |
[quote]if she and Harry ever divorce he will turn on her so fast and have the royal family press machine work overtime.
What makes you think they'd lift a finger to do his bidding? Pretty sure he's on his own from here on out.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 8, 2021 2:15 AM |
I just don't know what to believe. Could/would anybody lie on that scale?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 8, 2021 2:16 AM |
[quote]Someone said it in first thread, but I’m afraid Harry gonna have a short life like his mom. He seems pathetic, depressed and scared.
STILL has big dick energy however
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 8, 2021 2:16 AM |
What? There is racist and classism in the royal family?
Not nearly as embarrassing as the number of Americans who actually care about this thirsty bunch.
Call me when Harry gets caught getting fucked by the soldiers from his old unit.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 8, 2021 2:16 AM |
I can't get over Harry whining about his father cutting him off at age 36. Most fathers would slam down the phone over that.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 8, 2021 2:18 AM |
I’m starting to think you all didn’t even watch it.
Meghan was very measured in all she said. Very careful. Harry wasn’t.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 8, 2021 2:18 AM |
It was an interesting method of attempting to half burn a bridge but actually setting fire to the river. "No, no. Dad, Wills and Kate are fine. But actually we don't talk anymore and Kate made me cry. Grandma is cool though"
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 8, 2021 2:18 AM |
What strikes me is how measured Meghan was being with her words and then Harry shows up & is just like “fuck them.. they are all racist liars”.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 8, 2021 2:18 AM |
Call me too, r20!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 8, 2021 2:18 AM |
Omg Harry and Meghan will probably become richer than the Royals. Hollywood has their back. Trust me. They’re fine.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 8, 2021 2:19 AM |
In fairness, Harry is of limited intelligence. Me is much more calculating.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 8, 2021 2:19 AM |
[quote] I can't get over Harry whining about his father cutting him off at age 36. Most fathers would slam down the phone over that.
Every privileged white guy would have the same reaction - but Harry is learning that he is privileged
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 8, 2021 2:19 AM |
All this over a wretched brooch!?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 8, 2021 2:20 AM |
Creepy how Archie says “drive safe” before people leave the house.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 8, 2021 2:20 AM |
Also... Harry was clearly Diana’s favorite and she left him a secret stash of cash, but not William.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 8, 2021 2:20 AM |
Part of me is relieved Harry confirmed that David Icke was right all along-- the BRF are in fact reptilian humanoids from Annunaki. But I am disappointed he didn't show us his own scaly green tail.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 8, 2021 2:20 AM |
I agree r24. She was a fucking pro at this like she was the one who has been doing media training her whole life. Harry acted like this was his first go round!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 8, 2021 2:21 AM |
[quote] Also... Harry was clearly Diana’s favorite and she left him a secret stash of cash, but not William.
Both Harry & William got Diana's money - split evenly between them.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 8, 2021 2:21 AM |
r32 William gets the entire royal slush fund. Diana was well aware of that.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 8, 2021 2:21 AM |
What are they going to produce for Netflix worth 100 million? This interview was worth millions but films about underrepresented minorities?
No one will pay them to give speeches and you have to be as ass to give money to their charity, I guess fashion and lifestyle will be their ticket.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 8, 2021 2:23 AM |
Ummm r35 Of course Diana left her favorite son an emergency fund. She knew he would eventually need to get out...
He even said so without saying it.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 8, 2021 2:23 AM |
So the monarchy, dependent largely on the goodwill of the public, would antagonize these two loose cannons, who have all this damaging information and apparently limitless and unprecedented popularity, of which all were jealous - by cutting off their funds and letting them slither into exile where they can play their reindeer games.
That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 8, 2021 2:24 AM |
R32, according to Tina Brown, Harry and Diana had a special bond and it is very likely he was her favorite. However, she loved both her kids and only occasionally butted heads with William because he could be judgmental like his father.
Regardless, she left Harry the bulk of her estate because William was expected to become King...and she wanted to ensure “the spare” was provided for.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 8, 2021 2:24 AM |
Yeah, of course the racists on DL are gonna blame Meghan for everything but she handled herself well and was careful with everything she said. Harry on the other hand...
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 8, 2021 2:24 AM |
R38 it is NOT an emergency fund - it is Diana's estate and it was split evenly between Harry & william
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 8, 2021 2:24 AM |
(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ So it's the cyanide tablets then with the Alka Seltzer tonight, Phil? ♥
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 8, 2021 2:25 AM |
[quote] she handled herself well and was careful with everything she said.
It was not wise to say that Kate made her cry and that she was suicidal. Even if those things were true, and I doubt that they are, they did not need to be said.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 8, 2021 2:26 AM |
She will leave him in 5-10 years when she's milked every drop of drama from this situation, she isn't getting enough attention from the media anymore and/or the money dries up. As she goes, she'll accuse Harry of abusing her or the kids and talk about how suicidal he made her. After having destroyed Harry's relationship with his family, he'll be out there alone when she turns on him.
Borderlines are all over divorce courts and they're all just like Meghan. You can see it all coming from a mile away.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 8, 2021 2:27 AM |
If Sparkle and Dimwit thought they were hated before it ain't gonna be nothing compared to how much they're gonna be hated after THIS interview. "Crying" over flower girl dresses. "Discussions" about their son's "skin color (of course they declined to name exactly WHO was so concerned about that)." Feeling "suicidal" at living in such wretched circumstances, that is, in the lap of unimaginable luxury. These two are coming across as two of the biggest arses in the world; spoiled, whining, self-absorbed cunts.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 8, 2021 2:27 AM |
The money was split evenly, but Harry got the jewels I believe. Harry’s share prices out as larger than William’s because Diana knew the future king would draw an income from the Duchies of Cornwall and Lancaster once he became Prince of Wales and eventually King of England.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 8, 2021 2:27 AM |
I’m sick of you all acting like Kate is some saint. It’s known she and her sister are complete narcissistic cunts
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 8, 2021 2:27 AM |
And now we know why Oprah was invited to their wedding.
Meghan had this planned all along.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 8, 2021 2:28 AM |
Diana did leave a secret fund for Harry and her jewels etc.
William is slated to be king. Harry is the spare tire. She took care of him.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 8, 2021 2:28 AM |
How do you know, R48? Have you met them?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 8, 2021 2:29 AM |
R49 doubtful
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 8, 2021 2:29 AM |
R51 have you met Meghan? Practice what you preach
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 8, 2021 2:29 AM |
Wait - what was that comment about how Meghan had to hand over her driver’s license and passport? WTF?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 8, 2021 2:30 AM |
Markle is the modern face of evil. Just pure narcissistic race-hustling spite.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 8, 2021 2:30 AM |
So it’s ok to shit on Meghan but Kate is off limits? Why? Because she’s white? Fuck off.
Everyone knows Kate is an opportunistic, judgmental racist bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 8, 2021 2:30 AM |
The most shocking thing is that Harry is the only one in his family with a real job, it took a black american woman to lead by example, and we are acting like it is totally normal that this lot of taxpayer grifters in the UK are the normal ones.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 8, 2021 2:31 AM |
I thought Harry was a mental health advocate, but he had no idea what to say to his wife when she said she no longer wanted to live?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 8, 2021 2:31 AM |
Hardly a secret fund if you know about it, R50.
Diana’s will is in the public domain - the bulk of her estate was split 50/50 between her sons with some special bequests for her god-children.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 8, 2021 2:31 AM |
[quote] but Harry got the jewels I believe.
No, it was split equally between them
75 per cent of her jewelry and possessions should be divided between Prince William and Prince Harry, with the remaining 25 per cent divided among Diana’s 17 godchildren.
£50,000 should go to her butler.
The remainder of her estate (£21 million, which would be the equivalent of $31.5 million now) should be placed in trust for the princes until each turned 25. - that was later extended to when each would turn 30
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 8, 2021 2:31 AM |
R57 thank you.
PS why do we keep calling her black? Has anyone used their eyes to see her? If you saw her walking down the street you wouldn’t even know she’s “black”
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 8, 2021 2:32 AM |
OMG Meghan is the new Diana and the RF was jealous??? LOL!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 8, 2021 2:32 AM |
How nice to forget about the pandemic, voter suppression and 10 percent unemployment. Archie not becoming a prince and Harry not being supported by Dad at 36 is the real tragedy.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | March 8, 2021 2:32 AM |
So Meg Antoinette is jealous of Kate.
Got it.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 8, 2021 2:32 AM |
[quote]Everyone knows Kate is an opportunistic, judgmental racist bitch.
Where does that come from? You lying, marginalized fantasist.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | March 8, 2021 2:32 AM |
MM is too stupid to see that the "interview" was a disaster that will haunt her for a very long time, and many people here and elsewhere are as stupid as she is.
A self-adulating nutjob, lying and scheming and plotting and grabbing the money, takes advantage of gullible idiots who carry their shared bigotry with such glee they can't see the rot they've invited into their heads.
How Trumpian.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | March 8, 2021 2:32 AM |

"Everyone" knows this? You sound completely unhinged.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 8, 2021 2:33 AM |
Did anyone catch Meg saying “I gave up my career!” But then Harry mentioning his family wanted her to keep acting?
by Anonymous | reply 69 | March 8, 2021 2:33 AM |
no your trump
by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 8, 2021 2:33 AM |
R61 THAT IS PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE.
If you’re stashing some money on the side secretly, that won’t be on public record!!!! Is it that hard to get?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 8, 2021 2:33 AM |
No, R53, I haven’t met Meghan, but then I’m not on here calling her a narcissistic cunt, am I?
Interestingly, though, even though I haven’t met you, I’m pretty comfortable in calling you a silly clueless twat.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | March 8, 2021 2:33 AM |
I feel so so sorry for dumb Harry. Meg is a manipulative little bitch but also his family sucks
by Anonymous | reply 73 | March 8, 2021 2:33 AM |
r57 and taken in by two self-made black millionaires Oprah and Tyler Perry. Cant be on accident
by Anonymous | reply 74 | March 8, 2021 2:34 AM |
And Markle treating Charles' heir's wife, the future queen, as an equal in the family is absurd.
Markle - a mediocrity in every way except her ability to twist a nitwit into believing he's redeeming his mother's death in her.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | March 8, 2021 2:34 AM |
R69... there were a lot of inconsistencies.
I hope they enjoy tonight because tomorrow I suspect a very, very rough ride begins.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | March 8, 2021 2:34 AM |
So why are Meghan and Harry obsessed with keeping their titles.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | March 8, 2021 2:34 AM |

Meghan told her classmates in high school she was Italian. Please stop with “she’s a black woman”. Meg didn’t call herself black until she was able to exploit it.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | March 8, 2021 2:35 AM |

Where did they say that?
btw Harry remains Prince forever
by Anonymous | reply 83 | March 8, 2021 2:35 AM |
R71... and how does the stash get distributed? And how many 36 year old women do you know lay a stash aside in case they die? You're deranged.

[quote] The most shocking thing is that Harry is the only one in his family with a real job

Harry’s job is to sell out the Royals. What else does he have going?
by Anonymous | reply 86 | March 8, 2021 2:36 AM |
Harry literally says the money his mother stashed for him saved him.
Also r72, youre quick to defend ugly Kate but look at the other comments. You’ve said nothing about the disgusting and racist comments about Meghan.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | March 8, 2021 2:36 AM |
No matter what happens - Harry gets to keep his HRH and his title as Prince
by Anonymous | reply 88 | March 8, 2021 2:37 AM |
Meghan chose the $4,700 Giorgio Armani dress with the bloom on the shoulder because it represents rebirth and spiritual enlightenment.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | March 8, 2021 2:37 AM |
That family is den of racist royal vipers. I am glad that Meghan got an opportunity to share her story, but unfortunately it will do nothing to change the hearts and minds of racists who have already made up their racist minds about this woman.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | March 8, 2021 2:37 AM |
PS most of the hateful Meghan comments is one person. Just checked. It’s the psycho
by Anonymous | reply 91 | March 8, 2021 2:37 AM |
Wahhhh Meg left her "career" as a D-list actress. What a victim!
Harry complaining about having to do the job of shaking hands, and saying his father and brother are trapped, was a BIG error on his part.

How does the crown be passed over to William's children. Or does Harry take the crow until William son turns 18

R28- He's basically a NITWIT.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | March 8, 2021 2:39 AM |
It wasn't smart of her to say that about Kate. Makes her look pretty to focus on that isolated incident.

I'm willing to bet the ratings for tonight's interview were higher than last week's Golden Globes.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | March 8, 2021 2:43 AM |
Harry dressed as a Nazi for a party.
Harry referred to an army comrade as “our little paki friend”
Harry told a UK comedian, Stephen K Amos 'Oh, tell me, amusing, but you don't sound like a black chap.'
But the world is now upside down, so he gets to judge others for racist comments.

by Anonymous | reply 114 | March 8, 2021 2:43 AM |
Yeah, I agree that Oprah did an excellent job with this interview.
She asked all the right questions and pressed and followed up when necessary.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | March 8, 2021 2:43 AM |
I was disappointed Oprah didn't ask Harry if the thought the Royal Family offed Diana....She also should have asked Harry if he ever took a DNA test to prove he is Charles son...Maybe I should have done the interview...
by Anonymous | reply 116 | March 8, 2021 2:43 AM |
Princess Diana was murdered. That is more and more clear if there was ever a doubt.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | March 8, 2021 2:44 AM |
So who becomes King or Queen if the Queen, Charles & William drops dead at the same time?
by Anonymous | reply 118 | March 8, 2021 2:45 AM |
Honestly, they probably would have killed Meghan too at some point. They loathed Diana and they did Meghan too.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | March 8, 2021 2:45 AM |
r97 George automatically becomes King. With a regency council exercising his powers. Harry was probably included in that in some form. But Kate would be ahead.

I believe he had someone reach out to ask her on a date and she declined.

I hope the new baby is what we call a "throwback," matching her beautiful maternal grandmother in coloring and facial features.
As for the royals, The British Commonwealth (60% of whom are people of color) says, "Your Majesty, you've got some 'splaining to do...".
by Anonymous | reply 134 | March 8, 2021 2:49 AM |

R134 very unlikely (but not impossible) being that the baby is 3/4th white.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | March 8, 2021 2:50 AM |
Nothing “weird” about that, r135. That’s WHY they’re attacking her. To divert attention from the typically ghastly BRF behavior.

I feel sorry for Harry, a little. I dont think Meghan is evil. Contrived, YES. But I didnt know Harry was this.... basic. Like damn. If Diana was still living, she would still be making all the decisions for him, he's a true mama's boy with no mama. I hope he was just stressed about this interview, cause he couldn't articulate worth a damn. Even Oprah was a little thrown by it. If this is his everyday self, he aint going to make it long out here without his wife. He will need Meghan to navigate everything and she loves this arrangement, added plus he's still hot
by Anonymous | reply 141 | March 8, 2021 2:51 AM |
It almost took trip into crazy town when she said she talked to the person who counseled Diana. Like she was trying to make herself into Diana 2.0.
The Kate thing was super petty. The thoughts of suicide mention eh. That may or may not have happened. Was she accused of showing up uninvited at the Royal Albert Hall or something? Don't leave me alone?
She was never more angry than when speaking about Archie's titles being taken away. Was it anger because of racism? The security concerns are completely valid.
Wonder if Harry watched how much she revealed before he came in and was upset with that.
In general I think they do seem to come across as having a lot of love for each other. I wish Meghan had not played it off like she never googled her own press. She clearly knew about the bridesmaid story.
I think people would have been more sympathetic if she admitted that no matter how hard she tried she couldn't endear herself to the Brits.

Harry is only like that because of the trauma from his mom dying. He loved her so much. He was never the same when she died.
William was their dads favorite.

On the bright side, if Meghan kept her Deal or No Deal suitcase she can pick up some extra Tubmans by selling Avon door-to-door.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | March 8, 2021 2:54 AM |
And some day Kate will be Princess of Wales, the Queen Consort, and then perhaps King Mother/Queen Dowager.
And Megham will be a Lee Radziwill-type, at best. She'll have money but the masses won't give her a thought and she'll have no career or influence, because she lacks talent, intelligence, wit and a clue.
Not even a Princess Margaret. Although Markle could scald her feet and die a drunk in a wheelchair.

His mother’s death clearly affected his mental state, and when you go through something like that so young it lasts forever.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | March 8, 2021 2:59 AM |
It is obvious to me that Meghan has deep-seated race obsession and paranoia, probably the result of her daddy issues and family background. How unpleasant of her to bring that into her marriage. The BRF should have done more research and steered Harry away from this unhappy, hate-filled woman.

Saying your father and brother are "trapped" did more for the cause of republicanism than anything else in that interview. And what a dig at Princess Anne with the reference to "reinventing the wheel." She advised the younger generation of her family not to do that.
It's obvious that it was the father who raised the question about the color of the children's skin.
Sad, that Harry aired his family's dirty laundry in public.

Then they all worked over time to cast Meghan as the Yoko, when all of this could have been avoided if they just would have accepted her into their family.
And for the record, I don't believe that Kate is trash. I believe that she is doing what she was trained to do.

I just saw the complete interview. My $0.02:
1. I love and respect Harry and Meghan and wish them and their two children all the happiness in the world.
2. Meghan is strong and has suffered through much since her marriage. She and her husband adore each other, but the rest of the world seems intent on seeing them suffer. The UK monarchy is anachronistic and "the institution" obviously profits off of the misery and fears of the royal household. It's a good thing that Harry and Meghan have put an end to that cycle for themselves and their children.
3. Harry is suffering a deep depression. It's visible in his eyes and in his inability to hold a rare smile for very long. I hope he is receiving professional help. He wears his heart on his sleeve and it's obvious how much the events of the past couple of years have affected him on top of everything he has already suffered since his mother's death. I wouldn't be surprised if he has had suicidal thoughts himself.
4. Oprah needs to learn how not to interrupt during an interview, but I'm thankful that she have Harry and Meghan a chance to clarify the record.

Thank you! This is exactly what people have to understand. But its also worth noting that the security detail drop came after the whole the Frogmore Cottage debacle. The taxpayer footed the bill for renovation of Frogmore so that the Sussexes can live there and then they decide to move to Canada. They did eventually pay back the gov't but it should've been understood by them that the UK are no longer footing the bill for Royals who aren't serving the country.

I don't actually disagree with that. Europe has "bicycling royals" we on some level don't want that. England wants divine right on the cheap. Our Royals are required to ride around in Gold coaches, and maintain a respectable middle class existence even the middle class don't maintain anymore.

R231 & R242 - Yes, the great grand children have title if their parents have a titie. However, the issue here is which members of the Windsor clan will have the taxpayer foot their bill to be a royal. And Archie just isn't going to be one of them. In fact, so far, all the great grands are not on the taxpayer dime with the exception of those in the direct succession line (William's children).

Oh fuck, Twitter is hilarious.
American twitter is bragging that they've destroyed the monarchy and won the "war" again, and Canadian twitter is stupid enough to think that Canada will somehow get rid of the monarchy and become a republic. Good god, people are truly stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 256 | March 8, 2021 4:11 AM |
R44 - Even I was taken back by that. Meghan could've been diplomatic & said that she and Kate had a misunderstanding.
But once again (and this is why people don't like her), she makes everything about herself. Including in this interview.
This is why the institution doesn't like her. Its always about her.
by Anonymous | reply 257 | March 8, 2021 4:12 AM |
I am dying to know what the UK reaction is going to be like (ultimately that's all matters to the monarchy). I think it might be more mixed given that Harry and Meghan were both very unpopular.
Also if Harry and Meghan wanted such a private wedding, why did they spend $60 million on the big wedding at St. George's? This isn't meant as criticism, just wondering?

[quote]I didn't watch the whole interview if I"m being honest, but did the topic of Meghan's family come up?
Only that she lost her father because of all of this.
[quote]Peter Phillips daughter, Savannah Phillips, does not have a title.
She doesn't have a title because her father doesn't!
And Peter Phillips doesn't have a title because his title would have traditionally been passed down from his own father who wasn't royal and when the Queen offered to give him one anyway his parents said no.
Meghan and Harry would know who would and who wouldn't get a title. Goodness. None of this is hard to research.
[quote]In 2019 Meghan and Harry told friends they didn't want Archie to have HRH so he could lead a normal life.....so which was it?
I don't see a quote from her saying that there? Why? Because she didn't say that!
As she said in the interview, it was all a lie made up by the firm answering for her since she just couldn't willy nilly talk to a reporter back then and tell them, "They suddenly decided not to offer one when he should have gotten one!"
As Harry's son, yes, he should have had a title and he would have traditionally.

No... of course she didn’t say she was unaware of royals. For god’s sake. She said she was unaware of how exhaustingly restrictive the protocol was behind the scenes... when it was just family. For instance, being expected to curtsy to the queen in private.

It seems as if she touched a lot of people's hearts by making them think they had shared the same misfortune. All over twitter, it's "I've had a miscarriage, too..." "I'm in an interracial relationship and I've experienced racism, too." "I've been depressed and considered suicide, too." Everyone is falling over themselves about what a brilliant interviewer Oprah is. She's doing a mental health series with Harry; has liberally plugged the oat milk company Meghan's invested in, and reportedly found them the undervalued house in Montecito and arranged for Tyler Perry to help them. Do people think that one word of that interview was spontaneous? This strikes me as a mass delusion.

But Kate's not going to say that, or any other member of the family, because they don't talk to the press.
If the royals are going to respond to every sensational story in the British tabloids, they'd have no other time to do anything else.
Its difficult AF, but it you are a royal - and this goes for all the Royal families - you have to stay silent.
One of the reasons you have to stay silent is because once you respond to a story, any other story you don't respond to will be assumed to be true.

How do so many smart men fall for toxic, abusive women? Why do they remain in painfully self-destructive relationships when their higher intelligence knows better? Many men frequently cite, “but I love her.” Do they love these women or have they been brainwashed by abusive personalities? Are they confusing love with dependence on their partner/torturer—a kind of Stockholm Syndrome?
Emotional and physical abuse wears you down over time. It erodes your confidence, independence, sense of efficacy and good judgment. Successful abusers use brainwashing tactics to disassemble your personality and extinguish your natural responses to abuse. In other words, you become numb and submissive instead of fleeing or fighting back in the face of her abuse.
Abusive women establish control over their targets by using “brainwashing tactics similar to those used on prisoners of war, hostages, or members of a cult” (Mega, Mega, Mega & Harris, 2000). Most abusers instinctively know these behaviors. Their behavior is mostly unconscious; they’re natural predators. However, some abusive women know exactly what they’re doing. In such cases, I’d argue that they’re sociopaths.

Brainwashing Techniques
In the 1950s, psychologist Robert Jay Lifton studied POW’s from the Korean War and Chinese prison camps. He concluded that these soldiers “underwent a multi-step process that began with attacks on the prisoner’s sense of self and ended with what appeared to be a change in beliefs” (Layton). Lifton defined 10 brainwashing steps that occur in 3 stages.
by Anonymous | reply 285 | March 8, 2021 4:39 AM |
Stage I: Breaking Down the Self
1. Assault on Identity. “You are not who you think you are.” This step is comprised of an unrelenting attack on your identity or ego. For example, You’re a jerk. You’re a loser. You’re selfish. You don’t deserve me. You don’t have any friends. Your family doesn’t care about you. You don’t make enough money. These kinds of attacks have a destabilizing effect that breaks your stride and keeps you off kilter. The assault continues until you become “exhausted, confused and disoriented,” which causes your sense of self, beliefs and values to weaken.
2. Guilt. “You are bad.” Once your identity crisis sets in, you’re then criticized for offenses great, small and imaginary. You snore. You’re not sensitive enough. You’re too sensitive. You breathe wrong. You blink too much. You don’t fold the towels correctly. You never do this. You always do that. Why can’t you be more like so and so? The constant arguments and criticisms that cast you as the bad guy make you believe you deserve to be punished and treated badly. You feel a general sense of shame, that you’re wrong and that everything you do, don’t do, say or don’t say is wrong.
Humiliation and shaming tactics destroy your confidence and make you feel bad about yourself, which puts you in a malleable and submissive state. Shame is a form of paralysis. Inducing a sense of shame doesn’t just make you feel bad; it makes you believe that you are bad.
3. Self-Betrayal. “Agree with me that you are bad.” Once you’re disoriented and feeling a pervasive sense of guilt and shame, she can manipulate you into going against your own best interests. You forsake your own needs and make choices that are detrimental to your well-being. This is when an abusive spouse or girlfriend may begin to isolate you and/or get you to turn against friends and family. The betrayal of yourself, your beliefs and the people to whom you were once loyal increases feelings of shame, guilt and loss and also makes you easier to control.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | March 8, 2021 4:40 AM |
4. Breaking Point. “Who am I, where am I and what am I supposed to do?” You no longer know who you are. You’re confused and disoriented from gaslighting and being fed a distorted version of yourself and reality. You may feel like you’re “the crazy one” and/or feel depressed, anxious, traumatized and a host of other negative emotional and physical symptoms like insomnia, paranoia and digestive problems.
You question your judgment, perceptions and sense of reality. She tells you she loves you yet continues to treat you horribly. You believe she loves you and that you must be a colossal jerk for her to always be so upset. If she’s successfully isolated you or gotten you to isolate yourself, you can’t reality test or receive outside support. By this time, she’s made you totally dependent upon her and solely focused upon pleasing her, gaining her approval and avoiding her wrath or disapproval. You probably feel completely alone. Alternatively, if you’re still in contact with friends and family, you fear that if you tell them what’s going on that they wouldn’t believe you or wouldn’t understand.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | March 8, 2021 4:41 AM |
R281 Worse than her keys, her DL and passport. This can’t be right, Kate drives all over and I assume even a royal needs to be able to show a DL is requested.

No, she comes across as articulate, beautiful, independent, and a loving wife/mother. Admirable qualities.
by Anonymous | reply 290 | March 8, 2021 4:42 AM |
Stage II: The Possibility of Salvation
5. Leniency. “I can help you.” This is what I like to call the tyranny of small mercies. Periodically, this kind of woman will offer you some small kindness or you’ll have a “fun” afternoon together in which she appears normal. Because your perception has been so warped, the tiniest act of kindness or absence of overt hostility and/or icy withdrawal fosters gratitude, relief and a sense of adoration within you. In reality, she’s not kind and she’s not normal.
The disparity between her bad behavior and good/neutral behavior is so great that the simple act of heating up a can of soup for you makes her seem like Lady Benevolence. Her minuscule and infrequent acts of normalcy cause you to romanticize her. “This is why I love her. She can be so sweet.” It also causes you to experience a destructive sense of false hope. “If only she could be this way all the time. Maybe she will if I just try harder to please her.” The only way you can please this kind of woman is by continuing to allow her to harm you, that is, until she starts to resent you for becoming a doormat that she demanded you be.
6. Compulsion to Confess. “You can help yourself.” You’re so grateful for the small kindnesses she bestows in between periods of covert and overt abuse that you agree with her criticisms and devaluations. For example, you agree that your friends are bad for you and that your family is controlling and dysfunctional (um, hello, pot meet kettle). You promise to be more attentive and sensitive to her needs and see your needs as evidence of your selfishness.
Alternatively, you agree with her just to make the rages, derision and accusations stop. By the way, this is why torture techniques don’t work for intelligence purposes. People will say anything to make the torture stop. By this time, your personality has changed. You’re hypervigilant to her moods and ego gratification demands and wishes.
You’re overwhelmed and confused by her accusations and criticisms. Subsequently, you feel a compounded sense of shame. However, you’re so disoriented that you don’t know what you’re guilty of anymore. You just feel wrong.

The Goal: Pointless Control with No End to the Abuse
Individuals or groups who use brainwashing techniques are deliberately trying to convert followers, change political allegiance or get people to buy their brand of soda. The ultimate goal is to breakdown your identity and replace your belief system with their doctrines in order to make you an obedient follower. Once they achieve their aims, the psychological torture stops because you’ve become a faithful acolyte.
Unlike professional terrorists, cult leaders and prison camp commandants, most abusive narcissistic, borderline, histrionic and sociopathic wives and girlfriends don’t have an end goal for their brainwashing techniques. They don’t know what they want. They just know that they want to control you in order to feel in control of themselves. This is why they don’t progress past the sixth brainwashing step and complete the process through the third stage, Rebuilding the Self.
By keeping you stuck in the Possibility of Salvation stage, you become locked into perpetual hoop jumping mode. She says if you do x, y and z she’ll finally be happy. You do x, y and z and then she either has a new set of expectations, demands and requirements or tells you that you didn’t do x, y and z to her satisfaction or that you only did it to make her happy not because you wanted to do it. You’re caught in a maddening cycle of trying to please her and not being able to please her with no relief or “salvation” in sight.
Oftentimes, abusive borderline, narcissistic and histrionic women’s moods, beliefs and realities change from day to day and, in extreme cases, minute to minute. They want whatever their current mood or insecurity dictates and change their beliefs, demands and perceptions accordingly. The only doctrine they offer is, “You’re wrong and bad” and “It’s all about me, my needs and my feelings” and “you need to fight for me” or “you need to fight for this relationship” (never mind that she is the one who is destroying it). This keeps you destabilized and in a perpetual state of guilt, shame, hypervigilance and confusion.
She puts you into no-win situations, double binds and keeps raising the bar of her expectations for as long as you let her. You never get to reach the third stage of a new identity that brings some relief. She keeps you stuck in the cycle of abuse where she will psychologically torture you until there’s nothing left of you.

No it isn't hard to research and agree they knew full well who got titles and who didn't and when (esp Harry). That's why its insane that they fucking LIED on national television about it. They KNEW the WHOLE TIME that Archie wasn't entitled to HRH or Prince at birth, only when the Queen dies and even then it might be phased out for those down the line by then.
BIG Porky Pie lie there, which will be torn apart in the coming days by the media. If they lied about this, what else did they lie about?

NO HE SHOULD NOT HAVE. The current rules don't allow for it. He gets it when his grandfather becomes King in a few years, that's been the rules since 1917 (Letters Patent). Harry knew full well of this. What he didn't tell his own wife about it? It's like they went into this interview with a "Liars" tee shirt on.
Since they blatantly lied about this, what else was contrived? Does ANYONE sane believe the BRF wouldn't let her go to a hospital if she needed to? So much bs. The media will truly have a Field Day unravelling this for weeks if not months.

I wanted to believe they did the interview to promote themselves and sure, lob a few bombs back at the family and media in the UK. I had no preparation that they would go out of their way to tell easily disprovable lie after lie, not only about factual rules and regulations on the books for decades (LP of 1917 as one example), but about events, timelines, conversations, and just about anything else imaginable that can be easily disproven.
The BRF and the UK media will dine out on this for weeks. In no way is the current BRF, led partly by William nowadays, going to sit back and not answer to all of this. Gone are the days of "never explain or complain", not in this instance.
The staff and courtiers that H&M kept referencing all night will be talking loudly as well....like the person who was supposed to have told Meghan she couldn't check into a hospital! Or drive herself - RUBBISH. The dismantling of the Sussexes commences in a few hours....enjoy the peace for now while it lasts. I'm popping that popcorn.
by Anonymous | reply 308 | March 8, 2021 5:08 AM |
Very true r304 so it was never certain Archie would ever get an HRH. Charles has been planning on downsizing for years.
it was shocking to me how angry M seemed about the titles issue. If you dislike royal life so much, to the point of constant suicidal ideation, why the FUCK would you go off about your son having a title??? Wouldn't you be more than fine with him NOT having one, for simplicity and sanity's sake?
The fibs, outright lies, obfuscations, passive-aggressive digs and twisting of facts was jaw-dropping. They were counting on the general public buying everything they said since most don't know the arcane ins-and-outs of BRF life. That will change tomorrow.
If one good thing comes out of this, its that the BRF will have to be more transparent in its rules, methods, finances/funding processes and general handling of stuff. The UK public should have a broader understanding of what their taxes are paying for, contrary to what courtiers have long thought I think its long overdue. If they had done this earlier, there would be little chance for Harry especially to spin the way he did tonight.

Archie has a title - Earl of Dumbarton, as the eldest son of a Duke, but the Harkles decided to just give him the name Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and not use the Earl title.
He was never entitled to the style (HRH) and title (Prince Archie - good god!) until his grandfather is King.
The latter has been in place since 1917. She quotes the “George V or George VI letters patent” so she lied outright about his style and title being dependent on his skin colour.

I wish Harry and his family peace and happiness. And I agree Harry may be depressed. Oprah asked some good hardball questions but the answers seemed, at least with Meghan to be rehearsed and evasive.

Well, my main "takeaway" from these interview threads is that the interview won't change anyone's opinion in the slightest, excepting those who didn't give two shits about these people and their situation in the first place (in which case, they probably skipped it or watched for lulz only). If you already thought Meghan was a grifter, a cunt, a pathological liar, and perhaps even evil personified (MARY!), and that Harry was a spoiled, self-pitying, easily manipulated dimwit, then you probably didn't believe a word they said and are convinced this "stunt" will end in tears for the two of them. If you already thought the BRF was racist, cheap, cruel, and possibly responsible for murdering Harry's mother (MARY!), then you probably felt that M&H acquitted themselves brilliantly, and that the world is going to wake up tomorrow hating the BRF.

If you have followed the gossip since the beginning, you can see exactly where Meghan is lying. I hate that her being black gives her a pass, a victims narrative, and the American public will believe it. It speaks to just everything that is wrong with this country. Meghan and Oprah felt very symbolic of that divide tonight. Harry is an idiot but he is complicit to all this, known or unknown.

What Are the Symptoms of Histrionic Personality Disorder? In many cases, people with histrionic personality disorder have good social skills; however, they tend to use these skills to manipulate others so that they can be the center of attention.
A person with this disorder might also:
Be uncomfortable unless they are the center of attention Dress provocatively and/or exhibit inappropriately seductive or flirtatious behavior Shift emotions rapidly Act very dramatically, as though performing before an audience, with exaggerated emotions and expressions, yet appears to lack sincerity Be overly concerned with physical appearance Constantly seek reassurance or approval Be gullible and easily influenced by others Be excessively sensitive to criticism or disapproval Have a low tolerance for frustration and be easily bored by routine, often beginning projects without finishing them or skipping from one event to another Not think before acting Make rash decisions Be self-centered and rarely show concern for others Have difficulty maintaining relationships, often seeming fake or shallow in their dealings with others Threaten or attempt suicide to get attention

by Anonymous | reply 330 | March 8, 2021 5:51 AM |
So many lies and inconsistencies.
The infamous, who talked about Archie's skin color....she said some family member had said this to Harry during her pregnancy and he relayed it to her. When Oprah is talking to Harry he said the issue came up before they were even married. So, which is it?
Regarding protection...Meghan is oh so worried because Archie doesn't have protection (neither does Eugenie's kid and they should know this) and how can he go on without protection. When Harry comes on she talks about how she wrote letters to keep her husband's protection. You can take away the protection for her and Archie but please keep Harry's.
Again, the inconsistencies and lies were off the fucking charts.
I think she's a total psycho and he's a simp and mentally challenged, however, with how uncomfortable he looked, he knows this is fucked up. He's ruined whatever relationship he'll have with his family and the UK. He has no one now except Meghan.

Meghan banked on people being ignorant of the Letters patent. Which is why her shit will fly in the US (and to some extent, Canada), but not in the UK.

I just love the part where Meghan talks about Kate making her cry, saying "I would have never wanted that to come out about her, even though it happened. I protected that from ever being out in the world." All while revealing it to the world.

What R329 said...Meghan and Harry, to me, both presented as fairly normal and articulate. Meghan enjoys attention more than Harry. It was an interesting interview. I'd like to hear more about what psychologists thought.

Apparently in the UK you need 2 witnesses at a wedding, so that bullshit story about it just being them and the Archbishop was another lie.

R333, here,
[quote] On 30 November 1917,of 1917, letters patent were issued declaring that henceforth only the children of the sovereign, sons of sons of the sovereign and the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales would be entitles to the style of Royal Highness and the titular dignity of Prince of Princess. Hitherto, male-line great-grandchildren of a sovereign could also call themselves Prince or Princess with the style of Highness.

[quote] Archie has a title - Earl of Dumbarton, as the eldest son of a Duke, but the Harkles decided to just give him the name Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and not use the Earl title.
Not that title. She was very specific. She referred to the point at which Charles becomes King when custom would dictate that his grandchildren are styled *Prince" or "Princess." They were told Archie could not be a prince.

The thing about the Kate story is that there were WITNESSES to it. Other people at the fittings and staff who were there, or knew about it right afterwards. There is no "she said, she said" here with the truth in between - someone is lying their ass off. There will be consequences to this part of the interview, count on it. People will speak out.
And while I feel that Kate Cambridge is no saintly being as some would make her to be, she doesn't exhibit the sociopathy that was on full display last night in Meghan. If Meghan is making up or exaggerating details, this will be outed fast.
I seem to recall a story about Harry fighting with William about the Cambridges not supporting her enough after the wedding. Kate went over and brought flowers to Meghan as a friendly gesture. I wonder if Meghan is conflating the two instances here.

Facts can be checked, R342 - such as the issue of Archie's title, when and why security was cut off and who paid for it.

[quote]Not that title. She was very specific. She referred to the point at which Charles becomes King when custom would dictate that his grandchildren are styled *Prince" or "Princess." They were told Archie could not be a prince.
How slick of her, to confuse the issue.
Most likely there were conversations - even BEFORE harry met Meghan - of not having down-line heirs become HRHs or Prince/Princesses due to Charles's consistent belief in downsizing the BRF. He's made no secret of this, and feels it necessary for modernization efforts.
If Harry and Charles informed Meghan that it was unlikely Archie wouldn't be a "Prince" even after Charles is King - which is in line with his plans for years now - what was her issue exactly. She makes it sound like Charles was punishing him! For fucks sake no. He is making clear his proposed plans in line with his ongoing agenda.
its yet another example of H&M's willfully twisting facts and manufacturing grievance to suit their needs. It's also LYING at that. But supporters won't let that fact get in their way.

Why isn't Archie using the Earl of Dumbarton title? It's his to use, his parents can have him use it. The BRF has no control over that. Why? Why wasn't this asked. The tyke has a perfectly good courtesy title to use but his parents don't use it.
Maybe because it wouldn't suit their aggrieved stance of being rejected and deprived of everything owed to them.
Someone needs to follow up and ask about this.
by Anonymous | reply 348 | March 8, 2021 6:10 AM |
She's an entitled "exceptional" American (sorry again, to you all here). It's not at all surprising that she thought the monarchy would bend for her. This is why they told her to keep a low profile for the first while, so that she could learn protocol and tradition. But nooo.....
I don't hate her though, but I do think Harry's worse. He knows the protocol and he clearly never explained it to her. Either that, or she didn't bother to listen.
by Anonymous | reply 349 | March 8, 2021 6:12 AM |
r346 she's being a real bitch. Really she is, sorry to say. It's not her BUSINESS what title the monarch gives her kids. ALL HRH and titles spring from the will of the monarch, they are NOT OWED TO ANYONE BORN IN THE BRF. How many fucking times does this need to be said? Why are the media reporting this fact and move on with it - ?
The current Queen, and eventually Charles, then William, can do fuck all they wish with HRH and titles. It's one of their last remaining powers as sovereign, left over from the past. Who the fuck are Harry and Meghan to demand what titles their kids get? If Charles plans to downsize for the overall health of the monarchy, that's his call. RESPECT it and shut the f up.

Oh and they should respect the Queen and Charles's call about their security funding. If they wanted to keep their security, then stay the HELL IN THE UK to keep it.
They upped and moved to North America, where private security would have to be hired for them. They left their roles as working senior royals, technically they aren't supposed to have guards anymore, they aren't considered security targets anymore. Harry is 6th in line, it makes sense.
I don't believe that Charles didn't try to fund some small amount of security for them in Canada, and when they were first in LA. I'll wait to hear his side until I pass judgment on that. I seem to recall reading he was paying for that out of his own pockets (for a 35 year old married man, but still....). Lets see what comes out about this from the other side, I have a feeling new facts will emerge.
by Anonymous | reply 356 | March 8, 2021 6:18 AM |
If you have been following the threads, everyone knew that Archie was not automatically entitled to an HRH Prince status. Some thought *maybe* the Queen would grant it to Harry as a favor, but at that point there had been enough blood shed that the Queen wasn't doing anything extra. They had the option of Earl of Dumbarton or Master Archie (the irony). Without the titles, Meghan has nothing. I expect to see a slow and steady stream of people speaking out over the next few weeks and months. We know all the players, Melissa, Samantha, etc. There is a reason we know who they are and why they didn't speak. The palaces's last comment was that "they had not seen the interview and were not commenting. They will decide if and how they will respond after watching it."

Kept in the Tower! couldn't go to the doctor, dentist or hospital even. For FUCKS sake give us a break.
r357 Archie is Earl of Dumbarton as we type. It's his courtesy title. Why aren't H&M using it for him? It's his. Why would they go on television and lie that their son has no title? Expect this to be the first thing discounted.

Harry is not the voice of woke with his many racist encounters and I'm sure Wills has not always been the most PC. In fact most people have said something in jest that they shouldn't have in one point in their lives. I could see William and Harry making a joke over a beer than granny would have a heart attack if Archie was black, both having a good laugh out of it, and then that being spun into a whole thing. The Times stated that because the palace knew that Meghan's experience of how she was treated would immediately be a selection on the palace and if her experience was negative, it would automatically point to racism, they went above and beyond to be inclusive and kind. Meghan got perks with the Queen that Kate didn't get until years of married life. Though Meghan said she loved the Queen, when you insult the palace, you directly insult the Queen. QEII is the palace.

The Monarchy continues at the will of the British, Australian, Canadian, New Zealand etc people - Americans can all sound off at how awful it’s been for poor Meghan but it is just noise (most of it woefully ill-informed) insofar as threatening the Monarchy.

Thanks to the brilliant breakdown of this interview. I didn't want to watch it, but it's interesting to read different perspectives.
While I am not familiar with the Letters of Patent, if the BRF treated Megs so disrespectfully, why would she *want* a title for her son since according to her, the people associated with said title are treacherous and bigoted people. Better to let little Archie & Diana 2.0 live a separate life where they are no longer 2nd class citizens, no?
The Harkles may have won the battle, but I'm afraid in the long term they'll lose the war - not unlike the Dear Sainted Diana. They threw the worst at them and yes, Americans are largely Team Harkle, but the BRF probably doesn't care what they think anyway. The Brits seem to be done with them. They'll be some blowback to the BRF, but in all likelihood, Phillip will die soon and a lot of this will be forgotten.
As far as the baby's skin tone, that was an extremely shady, passive aggressive thing to do (assuming it happened): if someone said it, say who did. But to imply something like that without any tangible proof - that's unforgivable.
Finally, in regards to how William is depicted; he is like an arrogant jerk, on the other hand, I recall stories from when Diana was still *alive* about how emotionally dependent she was on William, leaning on him for advice. Supposedly the last summer of her life they quarreled because he told her to get her shit together. So that seems incredibly myopic and selfish that Harry doesn't consider the idea that his brother has his own issues and baggage in regards to their mother and it's shaped the kind of man he is today.

by Anonymous | reply 383 | March 8, 2021 10:21 AM |
I can confirm reading the same stories as R382 at the time. I've always believed that is why William married a woman much more like QEII, whereas Harry married the mother he was still in awe of.
I don't think Harry's smart enough to consider that the older brother he's leant on all his life could have his own insecurities.
by Anonymous | reply 384 | March 8, 2021 10:38 AM |
The BRF will defend themselves, directly or indirectly. If Meghan is lying, all the receipts will be released in the media. Meghan and Harry, as someone said above, have won a battle, but it's yet to be seen who will win the war. Diana couldn't, and she was more beloved and just as cunning as Meghan is. We'll see!

I think in some instances (particularly for me the alleged and anonymous "dark skin" remark) the Sussexes took advantage of what they hoped would be the traditional silence of The Firm.

Some random thoughts:
A) I wish O had asked about why they left Kensington Palace.
B) Meghan impressed me. She’s smarter and more articulate than I expected
C) she clearly thinks she’s smart enough to make us believe the complete bullshit she had no idea who the BRF was or that she needed to curtsy to the queen. That lie makes me question the rest of her story of woe.
D) this entire situation is about their hostility toward favoritism toward Kate/William and, now, being cut off from Charles$$
E) I actually believe the baby skin color news. However! My guess is that is was a stray insensitive remark and not “your kid can’t be a prince if he has dark skin.” Who among us hasn’t exaggerated a comment when we’re pissed at someone
F) the Brit press has been truly awful to them. And there is legit racism at work here.
G) Harry seems terribly depressed
H) that weird circular argument about Archie not getting a title made zero sense. Meghan even seemed confused about it. It was the only time in the interview that she lost control of the discussion.
I) I think Meghan might pull this off. We DLers all see through her, but I think we’re in the minority.
J) if they both just clam up now, they could be the victors. But I suspect this is just the beginning of more bean spilling.
K) the endless fawning over the Queen was eye-roll inducing and transparent
L) finally, Meghan is a force to be reckoned with. I imagine she’ll get tripped up by hubris eventually, but let’s give the devil her due: that thinly veiled threat to the RF that she has the power to reveal who said her baby was too black to be a prince was truly genius.

The Andrew situation and how they have handled it so far doesn't help the BRF. I think the compounded effect of shit hitting the house over the past year might be too much. It might be time to close the shop.
by Anonymous | reply 395 | March 8, 2021 11:26 AM |
I watched the interview in its entirety. I thought it was conducted very well by Oprah. I talk a lot of shit about Megs here on the DL, but always with a comedic bent because there is a lot of material to make with the funnies. That aside, I tend to believe everything they stated last night - it was compelling, and right in line with what I had already been thinking to myself anyway. Little Archie is supposed to automatically be styled as Prince upon the accession of Charles because of Harry being a male child of the King. The exact scenario having been played out with Andrew and his two girls - it's why they are Princesses. Alas, NO PRINCELY TITLE for Archie now OR then. Is it because he's got African ancestry/genetics? Yeah. It's that simple. At issue is the question: Who's the bigger cunt? Meghan and Harry or the Royal family? Meghan's major misstep was in believing that their smiley welcome was genuine as she was viewed as being a potential threat from the beginning - any outsider would be thought of as being such. Did she have a self-serving agenda? Surely. But so did Harry, and so do the rest of them and it's important to remember that fact. No matter how much you dress them up and believe all the hype, these are still VERY, VERY ruthless people. They have to be. Quote: "The primary function of the British Royal family is to SURVIVE."

Hey, maybe Meghan melted down a year after the wedding because she 1) left her country 2) left her job 3) got married 4) had a baby 5) became world-famous as part of an old, storied, and rigid institution. No matter HOW welcoming the BRF was, no matter how much help they gave her, anyone going through that many changes was going to have a tough time.
Meghan and Harry chose to court, marry, and procreate on a very compressed timeline. William himself told Harry to slow down, which Harry took as an insult. If Meghan had problems adjusting, it was due mostly to decisions she and Harry made. Yet, it's the BRF being blamed that she went into a HUGE life change apparently knowing very little about the change she was making. And when they did try to help her, she freaked out even more and thought they were trying to control her.
I'm sorry, I don't see how this is anyone's fault but Harry and Meghan's.

It's well known that the Queen is still very fond of Fergie, and other than official engagements she is included in family gatherings. If QEII can still like Fergie after all she said and did she certainly can still like Meghan because she hasn't caused anywhere near the damage to the Royal Family Fergie caused.
Honestly, I believe QEII knows the score. She knows a lot of what goes on behind the scenes is pure bullshit and she probably hates it, but she knows to keep The Monarchy afloat it's best to let things work the way they work.
by Anonymous | reply 406 | March 8, 2021 11:44 AM |
GQM here again. This is fascinating, and it's because there are so many elements at work. I totally forgot to consider how badly the RF are trying to save the ship from going down. They've conceded a lot since Diana by necessity. A great deal of change has occurred and NOT in their favor. The goal is to stream-line the actual public RF down to a bare minimum - only those who are an absolute necessity which will eventually mean ONLY William and his wife and children. And let's face facts - HE DOESN'T EVEN WANT IT, though he will accept his fate. The Monarchy's days seem numbered after the passing of the present Queen. The RF manning this sinking ship are all working feverishly to keep the boat afloat, pouring buckets of water over the side constantly. And here we have Harry and Meghan standing next to their own buckets, not doing a thing to help because no one has bothered to ask them if they're okay. Dead weight on a sinking ship.
Like I said - fascinating.

Honestly they basically admitted it's all about money. Bank of Dad aka Charles cut off the funds much earlier that we thought (If H&M are to be believed) and they were forced to go out and make it on their own financially. This led to the Netflix deals (stated by Harry) and eventually this interview.
I'm wondering if the promise of a few million pounds per year from Dad, as baseline help, coupled with an NDA on the couple would have been worth the investment. Looking back of course - any other 36 year old son with a family normally would be already supporting themselves in the Real World.

Very true about Princesses Fugenie and Bea. Daughters of the second son of the monarch were made princesses but poor mixed race Archie got saddled with Earl of Dumbarton and racist Charles did nothing to intervene.
The Queen needs to redress this by yanking the titles of rapist Andrew AND his daughters.

[quote]ONLY William and his wife and children. And let's face facts - HE DOESN'T EVEN WANT IT,
GQM he now wants it alright, he's changed his tune in recent years. He's become accustomed to being heir and has even seemed to grow to like the role, even if begrudgingly. He sees it as his job and later, his son's job so he's been protective of the monarchy which caused friction between himself and Harry.
Idiot at r409: Eug and Bea weren't "made" Princesses, they were born with the title because the LP rules at the time allowed it. Their father was son of the monarch so HRH applied to them. Harry is only the grandson. Good for TQ for sticking to the rules for a change, and not being blackmailed to make crazy unneeded exceptions.

78m people around the world watched the portrayal of Charles and Camilla in The Crown and now believe them to be sadistic and evil. They think the courtiers are cold and cruel to outsiders and the Queen is an emotionless husk who only loves Andrew.
This latest interview fits with what they've seen.

Didn't they say they'd been having the leaving discussions for two years--so before Archie was born? If they were thinking of leaving, why WOULD the BRF make Archie a prince?
by Anonymous | reply 413 | March 8, 2021 11:54 AM |
If you start making every great grandchild of the monarch a prince/princess the royal family doesn't shrink. It starts extending to a ridiculous extent.
by Anonymous | reply 414 | March 8, 2021 11:56 AM |
In hindsight, they should have paid them off a year ago. Given them a nice fat yearly pension and pay all security costs in exchange for them living quietly and keeping their mouths shut. Of course, one wonders if that would have been enough--Meghan doesn't just want money, she wants attention. The only thing that might have made her happy was what they originally asked for: part-time Royal status, where they showed up for the big events and the rest of the time got to do things their own way. All the perks--including the KP apartment and the country house, as well as an HRH for their kids--without having to go all-in on royal duties.
That would have been tremendously unfair to William and Kate, of course, but that might also have been the point.

I think this one will be refuted. Someone will go on the record. The thing is, Meagain already insulated herself. Remember, the institution lies to protect certain members of the royal family.

It was a strange and unpleasant interview. But at the end of the day, I don't understand why anybody cares that they left. If the Crown is true and only 6 working nobles are allowed, Harry's days were limited.
I applaud them for getting out. It's not a healthy situation to be in when you're not in line for the throne. And the shit against Meghan, which is proved time and again with all of the salacious threads on here, was out of control.
He doesn't need to be in that family or put up with all that shit. Rightfully, he still holds a grudge and scars from losing his mother so early in his life - all due to the media hounding her.
One of the bests things to help them was the release of Season 4 of the Crown - even ficitionalized - it gives a very good look into what Diana went through and all the bullshit outsiders get.
Some of the posters on DL can't get enough of calling them entitled brats and spinning up all sorts of baseless stories and claims about them. It's disgusting - and the English press is the WORST.
Fuck them - they did the right thing by walking away. And they're going to have MUCH better lives because of it.

Beat me to it r433, Diana was believed at the time. But she - like these two- wildly overshot her mark. The press, the BRF, their pals and staff, all managed to dismantle much of what she tried to do over time, in terms of harming the monarchy (Charles, actually, since she was a monarchist herself).
Harry is imitating Mum here. It also won't end well.

She died at the hands of a drunk driver, not wearing a seat belt. Who killed her again?
Diana was IN BED with the UK media for years. She had a young Piers Morgan on speeddial, she met with Richard Kay regularly to dish stories and get good press. She LOVED the media, who are you kidding. The anti-press stance from her was just that, a stance. We know better now.

Diana died because the BRF stripped her protection. And the deranged British media delighted in seeing how deep a breakdown they could cause once they had access to her.
Imagine how deeply sociopathic Charles had to be knowing that's what happened to Diana and signing off on denying Archie that coverage. Or stripping it from Harry. Just garbage human beings that BRF
by Anonymous | reply 442 | March 8, 2021 1:02 PM |
They didn't strip her protection. They wanted her to have the protection. She did away with the RPOs because she thought they spied on her. Do fuck off r442 - Diana didn't WANT the protection from the Royals anymore because she feared snooping and loss of privacy. She went with Dodi's protection though - look what that got her! r443 tells it like it is. They tried to give it to her but she nixed it.
She was in bed with most of the royal reporters, in touch with them constantly. She spoke with Richard Kay the day she died! Telling him all the scoop that week.

You know, it is possible to dislike Harry and Meghan AND recognize the British Royal Family are a bunch of delusional cunts. Meghan's story has been told before, by Diana and Sarah. [quote]In fact most people have said something in jest that they shouldn't have in one point in their lives.
Yes, its always jokes and no one ever means any harm by comments like this. The basic truth is Meghan being bi-racial was an issue and it shaded all coverage of her and the public's perception of her. It reminds me too much of how people didn't like President Obama when he was in office, but they just could put their fingers on what it was about him they didn't like. It's the same reason why the same people who called Michelle Obama horrible names and a disgrace to the role of first lady embraced Melanie Trump.
Personally, I think they got married too quickly and Meghan didn't get enough time and training on Royal shit and just dealing with the British press, which is on them. But again, all of this could have been avoided if they just did what families do, and sucked it up and used this is as an opportunity to broaden the family's base. Meghan was no threat to them.
That family is horrific, I can't believe there are people on here defending them.
by Anonymous | reply 446 | March 8, 2021 1:07 PM |
The Royals' attitude was that a 1000-year-old institution doesn't change for any newcomer. Perhaps if Meghan had stayed the course and done good work, she would have had more influence once Charles became King. Instead, she melted down and ran away like a child. Why should anyone listen to her?
by Anonymous | reply 447 | March 8, 2021 1:09 PM |
r445: they aren't that worthy, who said they were? Stop simplifying. William is a prat himself, I've posted many times about this. Charles is weak and can't wipe his ass without help most times it seems.
Diana and Sarah? Those are your references? Sarah - "Fergie" - who never met a grift she didn't like? That's who you're lining Meghan up with. Who's stupid here? Actually, come to think of it, Fergie might not be an unfair comparison.

Which is it? Let’s be consistent here.
by Anonymous | reply 454 | March 8, 2021 1:17 PM |
That bullying "investigation", the BRF interviewing their own employees about whether someone actively opposed to their institution is bad, is a joke and it will land flat now. No matter what it reveals it will be less shocking than this interview.
And one more point, there's another account corroborating Meghan's account of how despicable these people are, Diana's. While Meghan had a professional career here in the US long before Harry and there is no corroborating account of her abusing staff like the BRF is about to feebly claim to cover their ass.

That's a hard image to work against. To have a chance at succeeding, the Palace also needs to put across simple, consistent points. We'll see if those highly paid PR flacks can earn their pay packets.

Re: mental health issues and not getting support from the RF--Charles got Diana a psychiatrist early in their marriage, and I think she saw that doctor for the rest of her life. Harry has seen a therapist for years. So, I don't think mental health care is forbidden by the family.
I think they've got legit gripes. The press has been awful to them. There's no doubt racism is part of it. I'm sure Meghan was greeted with much suspicion by his family and friends.
That said: what really surprised me was that their main targets in the interview were Charles and William. I thought they'd mainly target the press and the people who work for the RF. But it's ALL about Charles and William and the fact that the $$ has been cut off.
Considering how indulgent Charles has been to H over the years, I'm guessing that M and H pulled crap that finally pissed him off enough to cut them loose--at least temporarily. And now they get to say he cut them off and he looks like a total villain.
Marrying into a family is tricky for all of us. You have to figure out how to navigate a lot of complicated emotional currents. It's tough enough in a regular family, without throwing intense scrutiny into your every move by a nasty press.
But I truly don't know what they stand to gain by going public with their complaints about Charles and William? I'm guessing they're trying to destroy them because they have nothing left to lose. Better that they stayed quiet and leveraged whatever power they have to make a career in Hollywood.
I've been truly amused by all of this...until last night. I'm genuinely concerned for their welfare. First, they publicized the fact that they don't have security and are unprotected. Secondly, Harry seems pretty messed up. I think Meghan is just fine--she's a strong girl. But I can see Harry going off the deep end.

Coming from an American, R483, that comment is rich.
How quickly people forget that the American experiment gave the world the likes of Nixon, Reagan, Bush x 2, and Trump. Americans really should shut their mouths when it comes to how other countries are managed. Here's an inconvenient fact - most "full democracies" are constitutional monarchy.

Because that didn't happen. Once they were no longer working royals, the protection stopped. The taxpayers weren't going to pay for it.

by Anonymous | reply 520 | March 8, 2021 3:37 PM |
R513 Charles doesn’t decide who gets to be a prince. It’s been codified in British law as the Letters Patent Act of 1917. For a hundred years now, the prince or princess designation only goes as far as the grandchildren of the monarch and the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales. To ensure that William’s children (one of whom will be monarch of Great Britain one day) would be royal princes and princesses, the Queen issued a special Letters Patent to make that exception. Archie will automatically become an HRH prince as grandson of the monarch when Elizabeth dies and Charles ascends the throne. In the meantime, he can use Earl of Dumbarton as his title. Do try to keep up.

by Anonymous | reply 522 | March 8, 2021 3:40 PM |
R522, part of what's driving this is the easy contempt with which Americans can view other cultures. We've seen England on TV so often that we think we know all about it, and are free to tell the British how they should live their lives.
by Anonymous | reply 523 | March 8, 2021 3:48 PM |
R522 the US system makes it *harder* for liberals to succeed because the electoral college and Senate by design let conservative reactionary rural voters count for more than liberals in cities. And still we have performed better than three different iterations of UK labour.

by Anonymous | reply 524 | March 8, 2021 3:49 PM |

It's been explained here a million times. Read up: Charles has for years discussed limiting HRHs to only his direct heir and his/her kids, and the kids of his heir's heir. That doesn't include Archie, or any other royal kids way down the line. It has nothing to do with race, gender, likeability, favorites etc. We've said this over, and over, and over....you only want to create drama, like some other royals you apparently look up to.

Early ratings numbers are in and approximately 17 million people watched the interview last night. The numbers will likely rise once digital viewership is included buy sources are suggesting it wasn't the runway ratings hit CBS had wanted. Higher than the Golden Globes, lower than last year's Oscar and no where near the Superbowl.

Bingo! You win r536, I think I love you. This is exactly as it would have played out. No matter Archie's race or other non-related characteristics. Good job explaining it. One correction: as adult nephew of King William, he likely wouldn't have security, unless a working royal.
Archie as a tiny baby would of course be covered by his parents security detail until he went to school. He doesn't need a separate bodyguard. By the time he's school age, his grandfather is King and the detail would be there.

The subject of "downsizing" the royal family has been ongoing in the UK for years, decades even. I lived there in the 1990s and it was talked about then.
Most of the reason that the Queen amended the Letters patent of 1917 was so that IF William's first born child were to be a girl, she would be entitled to ascend to the throne.
If you have a problem with Archi not having the title of prince, (before he become the direct grandchild of the monarch) then build a time machine and head back to 1917 and take it up with George V.

Marlene Koenig, an academic royal expert many here know of, said on Twitter it was strange that Harry, who's seen therapists for years, 'seem to know how to help his wife through her depression. It's a fair point.
He also didn't see fit to teach her how or when to curtsy to TQ , or know the National Anthem - basic royal stuff 101. Yet, he bitched mightily when William offered the opinion that he might have been going "too fast" in his relationship with Meghan. "From 0 to 100" like he said. How was this prudent, given what we know now?
Oprah missed a shit ton of decent follow up questions last night. Ones that will be asked instead by the media.

AKA, NOT married. AKA, Meghan lied. AKA, she persuaded Harry to participate in some New Agey "spiritual commitment" ceremony.

I came to this with an open mind, but I don’t believe Meghan when she said she knew very little about the Royal family even after dating Harry, and I find it hard to believe the Palace would refuse to find her professional help if she were suicidal. Finally, it would have sufficed to say she did not make Kate cry. Adding that “it was the opposite” was gratuitous. Add that I understand the status of a family member in Archie’s position was decided long ago, and I’m skeptical of the Duchess.

This will be a nine-day wonder on Twitter, then the public will be on to the next thing. What interested Hollywood were ratings, as that would indicate the level of public interest in the Sussexes. They were projecting 30 million and got 17 million. Unless the streaming numbers catch up, this doesn't bode all that well for the future Netflix specials. And with absolutely no way back to the UK now, the Sussexes have to make the Hollywood projects work.

Then again my frau sister this morning said she didn’t even know the interview was happening, wasn’t aware Meghan was pregnant, tuned in for a bit, got bored and then went to bed. She did come away feeling sorry for them, though. Maybe that’s the main takeaway for most people who are largely uninterested.

People have more important things to worry about right now. The media is jumping all over this because everybody is tired of COVID news and the stimulus package looks to be a go, but whether or not Meghan and Harry are happy with their luxurious lives affects the everyday experience of most people not one whit. The whining doesn't look good given how much regular people are actually suffering.

R585 I suppose some would argue that Meghan and Harry qualify as “useful idiots.”

The interview aired on CBS. People just don't pay for access to ABC, CBS, and NBC any more. Mostly older people pay their cable bills and get access to those channels now. I'm not young, but I quit paying for those channels several years ago.

Everybody has seen the best clips online, anyway.

R585, How is it irrelevant? We are talkng about the future relationship Britain and the Royal Family is a symbol of that.

These are strong-arm tactics, and effective ones.
Harry and Meghan want to get paid, and they want guarantees that their kids will be prince/princess when Charles ascends the throne. They want to be able to show up at the big events and lay wreaths and shit like that and then go home to Montecito and work for Netflix. The implied threat is that if the BRF doesn't allow this, they'll release more damaging information (like the name of the person who allegedly brought up Archie's potential skin tone), and there will be hell to pay.
My guess is that they'll imply it was William who is the closet racist. This, combined with what's already been said about Kate making Meghan cry, could seriously damage the reputation of the Palace's golden couple. The BRF will pay any amount of money and hand out whatever titles are necessary to prevent that.
I don't like Meghan, but you have to admire the sheer steely grit of the woman. No wonder Charles called her "Tungsten." Suicidal ideation, my ass.

I think a little Andrew Lloyd Webber is appropriate here.
I give you Meghan's Theme

I think it really odd that no one in the legit press has yet brought up the fact that Meghan traveled plenty while she was supposedly under house arrest in the Palace. I mean, the lies aren't even GOOD lies.

What do you think is going to happen, R592? That the US will stop trade and international relations with the UK because of this interview? Or will the US invade the UK and help overthrow the monarchy? Over an interview with a disgruntled royal couple who aren't even in line for the throne?
My God. I can't help but sometimes think Americans truly deserved Trump.

I don't think this will have much fallout for US/UK relations, but the BRF does depend on the goodwill of the people. In that sense, this could be incredibly damaging if they don't find a way to contain Harry and Meghan. It's pretty easy: Give them a lot of money and guarantee that Archie and his sister will be HRH Prince/Princess when Charles ascends. They'll shut up pronto.

There is no return from this- this was beyond nuclear. There are no titles for them. They've destroyed the Royal Family (or taken their best shot.) Harry is an absolute moron and has no idea what he's done. Meghan isn't as smart as she thinks she is. She has won this battle. But she's destroyed everything.

With Dementia Joe in charge, anything is possible Congress has already been discussing limiting his ability to use the nuclear codes. Look out, Liz. A scud may be coming your way.

Oh fuck off, R599. The current admin has done more for the American people in 6 weeks than Cheetolini did in four years.

I don't think so, R598. Harry and MM can't go back on their words now. The only way I see anything changing is if they get divorced and Harry goes back and grovels. Time will tell, and I really don't see them splitting up now if only because they're both too invested in this narrative.
Ruck off, R599. I pick on the US all the time because of Trump and other republican presidents, but Biden is a breath of fresh air, not just for the US, but for the world. That said, I don't believe Trumpism isn't dead. Not at all.
