Their delivery fees are outrageous...

by Anonymousreply 1March 3, 2021 2:10 PM

is this a FTM?

by Anonymousreply 2March 3, 2021 2:10 PM

Whatever happened to crying in private. These public "breakdowns" are ridiculous.

and I wonder who leaves $1.5 tip, at least round up to $2!

by Anonymousreply 5March 3, 2021 2:18 PM

i have been over tipping folks lately. with the pandemic and then the recent severe cold spell made it imperative

by Anonymousreply 6March 3, 2021 2:19 PM

Does he have cable? A smartphone?

by Anonymousreply 7March 3, 2021 2:20 PM

Please don't be near my food with nasty, unhygienic nose jewelry.

by Anonymousreply 8March 3, 2021 2:20 PM

The real story is not the customers who don't tip, but the corporation, like Uber, that don't pay their employees (that's what they are) a living wage.

by Anonymousreply 9March 3, 2021 2:22 PM

The endless stream of deliveries in my building was ridiculous when unemployment insurance was supplemented.

Now, it has slowed down and they’re exhausted-looking - they’ll kick at the customer’s door and leave the bag on the floor.

by Anonymousreply 10March 3, 2021 2:22 PM

that elfin creature deserves to make a living. Not sure about it's claim not to have money to feed itself, but I believe the tears about the general shittiness of the service economy.

by Anonymousreply 11March 3, 2021 2:28 PM

I realize that delivery people have it rough. That’s why I don’t have food delivered, so that I’m not part of the problem. People should get out of their house and do carryout instead.

by Anonymousreply 12March 3, 2021 2:28 PM

what if I don't do food delivery?

by Anonymousreply 13March 3, 2021 2:29 PM
Uber Eats driver

Pics please.

by Anonymousreply 14March 3, 2021 2:30 PM

Don't order using Uber Eats - call the restaurant directly. Usually you get a discount, and you can tip the delivery person directly so no evil corporations take their cut and force people to shill for them.

by Anonymousreply 15March 3, 2021 2:30 PM

R9 but Uber drivers are still freelance contractors, gig worker... they lost their case in California.

by Anonymousreply 16March 3, 2021 2:30 PM
i have been over tipping

I’m over it too.

by Anonymousreply 17March 3, 2021 2:33 PM

Warning, rant!

I despise these deliver service companies. By the time you add up the cost of the meal, and all the extra charges, you've ended up paying what it would cost to go to a decent restaurant and have table service (yes, I know that's not a 100% viable option at this time).

Above and beyond the cost of the food you add on: the restaurant's delivery fee (some don't charge), the delivery-service service charge and then tip. By the time you see your total, you're a bit reluctant to leave a large tip (and here's where the person actually doing the work gets screwed).

Although it drastically limits my choices, I only order from restaurants that handle their own deliveries. At least this way I can tip the delivery person quite well (and still NOT pay as much by using one of the services). A lot of people think they'll make money by delivering food, but they soon realize they won't, while adding wear and tear to their vehicles, cost of fuel etc.

by Anonymousreply 18March 3, 2021 2:41 PM

I always give them at least a 20% tip.

by Anonymousreply 19March 3, 2021 2:53 PM

If you add a tip when ordering (above and beyond delivery fees), doesn’t that tip go to the driver? I thought we were supposed to tip online in order to reduce contact. Should I go back to handing the driver a cash tip in person?

On the question of delivery services, I always try ordering directly from the restaurant, but many restaurants’ websites fail to provide this option.

by Anonymousreply 20March 3, 2021 3:07 PM

Why should I tip them for doing their job.

How do I know what they did to my food on the trip over.

Did they even have to take a food handler's test?

Overpaid grifters.

by Anonymousreply 21March 3, 2021 3:33 PM

I prepare my food myself. And I tip myself quite generously.

by Anonymousreply 22March 3, 2021 3:35 PM

How dare they depend on my appetite for a job.

Maybe they should pull themselves up with their own bootstraps, and stop expecting handouts from hungry strangers.

by Anonymousreply 23March 3, 2021 3:35 PM

ā€œWhy should I tip them for doing their job.

How do I know what they did to my food on the trip over.

Did they even have to take a food handler's test?

Overpaid grifters.ā€

Weirdo.

by Anonymousreply 24March 3, 2021 3:36 PM

Or Uber could just pay them a living wage. We are the only country in the world that allows corporations to get away with forcing the public to supplement workers income. Until the government decides to end state sanctioned starvation wages it’s up to us.

by Anonymousreply 25March 3, 2021 3:37 PM

Maybe they should create their own jobs instead of relying on a person's hunger to provide them with one.

#TrySomethingNew

by Anonymousreply 26March 3, 2021 3:38 PM

How do I know they didn't purposefully cough their dirty Uber Covid cooties on my fries?

What if they rubbed their supplemental income genitals on my food?

I demand all Uber Eats drivers wear body cams so I can know where their junk has been.

by Anonymousreply 27March 3, 2021 3:41 PM

How can one be on the verge of being homeless but still have enough money for a car, insurance, gas, maintenance etc? Maybe consider a job that doesn't require a vehicle?

by Anonymousreply 28March 3, 2021 3:42 PM

I always tip, but it kinda works both ways. A lot of people ordering in because they want to avoid going out can’t always afford the delivery fees plus the tip, not to mention the mark up on the menu items. It becomes a bit difficult to swallow spending $25 just to order from some fast food place. Which is why I don’t do it that often. It sucks financially for a lot of people right now.

by Anonymousreply 29March 3, 2021 3:43 PM

I hear Uber Eats drivers are just DoorDash drivers with their faces switched through secret deep state surgery.

All will be revealed on April 31st of THIS YEAR!

by Anonymousreply 30March 3, 2021 3:45 PM
What if they rubbed their supplemental income genitals on my food?

Okay, I'll start tipping 25%.

by Anonymousreply 31March 3, 2021 3:47 PM

So what, I'm supposed to pay for their gas now too?

How about their deodorant?

by Anonymousreply 32March 3, 2021 3:47 PM

It's a generational thing.

by Anonymousreply 33March 3, 2021 3:49 PM

If that tic tok person wants a tip from me TAKE OUT YOUR DISGUSTING NOSE RING asshole.

Apartments should have a no nose ring policy then he would really be homeless.

by Anonymousreply 34March 3, 2021 3:52 PM

Why should I tip him if the corporation he works for doesn't care about him enough to pay him a livable wage?

Why should I, a private citizen, have to correct the wrongs of a corporation?

What happened to personal responsibility for businesses since Repugs voted that corporations are now people too?

by Anonymousreply 35March 3, 2021 3:56 PM

R29 can't such CUNTS bake a potato and some chicken for a couple bucks. Fuck them. People do NOT have a human right to deliver in food they can't afford to fully pay for. Don't cheat the service worker. Make your own POOR PERSON food and shut your fat mouths.

by Anonymousreply 36March 3, 2021 3:59 PM

OK, OP, just be sure the tip is over $8, regardless of the amount of the total.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 37March 3, 2021 4:01 PM

But the corporation is cheating the service person? Why not outrage and liability for them?

by Anonymousreply 38March 3, 2021 4:02 PM

I always tip very well, but we need to get rid of this stupid system that benefits the employer and just pay people a living wage. If that means prices go up, fine, I'd be saving on the tip. Because for every person like me that ALWAYS tips well, I know there are ten people that only leave a quarter.

by Anonymousreply 39March 3, 2021 4:05 PM

Aside from the fees as has been discussed, I don’t like that you can’t change your tip based upon on the driver’s attitude, quickness of delivery, etc.

I generally tip generously but get pissed that I did when you see the app say your food is ready for pickup (or whatever verbiage they use) and you see the driver just sitting somewhere. Or when I make a simple request on every order: No contact. Please knock on door and leave outside. Thank you.ā€ The app shows the delivery person [italic]should[/italic] be here by now, but I haven’t heard a knock nor a notification on my phone. Open the door to find out it’s sitting there!

by Anonymousreply 40March 3, 2021 4:05 PM

Sure. But why punish the worker? If you hate the corporation's values DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCT OR USE THEIR SERVICE. You are cheating the tip-based paid worker. DO NOT ORDER IN IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO TIP.

by Anonymousreply 41March 3, 2021 4:05 PM

BOO HOO you fucking incel R40.

by Anonymousreply 42March 3, 2021 4:07 PM
But why punish the worker? If you hate the corporation's values DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCT OR USE THEIR SERVICE.

Isn’t this hurting the worker? No orders, no pay.

by Anonymousreply 43March 3, 2021 4:07 PM

WTF is your problem, r42?

by Anonymousreply 44March 3, 2021 4:07 PM

SORRY R44 NO CONTACT. NO ANSWER FROM ME. NO CONTACT!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 45March 3, 2021 4:09 PM

R43 they will deliver to tipping customers. You can't cost of the tippers, you fucking cheapskate.

by Anonymousreply 46March 3, 2021 4:10 PM

You’re fucking unhinged. You do realize that’s an option on their app, right?

by Anonymousreply 47March 3, 2021 4:10 PM

Is the food even warm by the time you receive it? I know that places that have their own delivery drivers always have at least one driver already at the restaurant ready to take a delivery as soon as the food is done, but with Uber Eats drivers they have to drive to the restaurant first to pickup the food, don’t they? And do they have something in their cars to keep the food warm like pizza delivery drivers do?

by Anonymousreply 48March 3, 2021 4:10 PM

can't COAST

That's what your cheapskate cunts are doing at restaurants and to deliver drivers. COASTING on the people who tip and keep the workers fed and housed.

by Anonymousreply 49March 3, 2021 4:11 PM
You can't cost of the tippers, you fucking cheapskate.

Um, what?

by Anonymousreply 50March 3, 2021 4:11 PM

Its always the same debate in these DL threads. Miserable petty cheap incels who say "fuck the world I'm not tipping. Not my problem." Don't go to restaurants and don't order in. Until the American system changes and service people make a living wage and have health care.

by Anonymousreply 51March 3, 2021 4:13 PM

Why isn't he expressing frustration with Uber? The thing that has the most control over his pay? The thing he can actually organize against, with a lot more influence than one viral tiktok?

by Anonymousreply 52March 3, 2021 4:15 PM

Nobody on this thread said they don’t tip, r51. What is your probl...?

Oh; never mind. I know what it is.

OK, get back in your Toyota Prius and head over to Taco Bell, you have customers waiting.

Chop chop.

by Anonymousreply 53March 3, 2021 4:17 PM
I despise these deliver service companies.

it feels like a made up profession. why can't the restaurant deliver? and why can't you just pick it up?

by Anonymousreply 54March 3, 2021 4:18 PM

R52 why can't you participate honorably in American tipping culture, until it changes. DING DONG - did you notice a 15 minimum wage passing in Congress? No, you did not. Did you notice universal healthcare? NO you did not. DO you thing that strange crying elfin creature has a million choices for jobs?

America runs on a tipping culture. You participate or don't use the services that run on tips.

by Anonymousreply 55March 3, 2021 4:19 PM

One argument to abolish tipping is that people ALWAYS under-report their tips for taxation purposes. I know I did when I worked service jobs. I know that's probably a drop in the bucket but it would raise more money for the government if you just paid a living wage and then taxed that.

by Anonymousreply 56March 3, 2021 4:21 PM

I’d rather pickup my food on my own than have some weird driver possibly touching it and paying outrageous fees/tips.

by Anonymousreply 57March 3, 2021 4:27 PM

R36 - get help.

by Anonymousreply 58March 3, 2021 4:48 PM

wow, we have some really sick people in this thread!

by Anonymousreply 59March 4, 2021 3:48 AM

Uber loses billions after billions, stop saying they should pay more. Fucked up biz model.

by Anonymousreply 60March 4, 2021 5:26 AM

They always pick in your food anyway, remember that story a while back, they all admitted to it, now this putz with his nose ring probably dislodges boogers in the food.

by Anonymousreply 61March 4, 2021 6:05 AM

Uber can pay a living wage or get the fuck out of the industry. It's not the customer's responsibility to directly subsidize wages. This tipping bullshit has to stop.

by Anonymousreply 62March 4, 2021 6:08 AM

It's pretty simple. If you don't want to tip or you're paranoid about people fucking with your food, don't order delivery. There are other ways to eat.

by Anonymousreply 63March 4, 2021 6:13 AM

This is why countless people have fought and died throughout history for fair wages. Business and government see the working class a s little more than slaves. You don't have top be a socialist to support labour organization against these abusive companies.

by Anonymousreply 64March 4, 2021 6:15 AM

Uber eats and all those other apps rip off the restaurant as well. They take a percentage of the food sale. My friend who owns a restaurant says his profit margins are as thin as they’ve ever been. He’s thinking of getting rid of these apps and just hiring a driver for his restaurant.

by Anonymousreply 65March 4, 2021 7:07 AM

I don't normally tip when ordering from a restaurant that normally offers delivery, but if I order through Deliveroo I add a few quid as a tip for the delivery person, I haven't struggled financially but I know I'm fortunate in that regard and an extra few quid could make a lot more difference to a low paid delivery person than 'losing' it would make to me.

by Anonymousreply 66March 4, 2021 9:01 AM

Why do people not make enough to earn a living in the US? Tipping wouldn't be necessary if you just offered people a living wage.

by Anonymousreply 67March 4, 2021 9:05 AM

Because freedom, capitalism, etc

by Anonymousreply 68March 4, 2021 9:10 AM

R59 is right...damn.

by Anonymousreply 69March 4, 2021 10:23 AM

I always give a generous tip for anyone who delivers food to my home. Like waiters tips is the main part of their income.

by Anonymousreply 70March 4, 2021 11:01 AM

Uber Eats should automatically charge a tip. When I order food for delivery from Kroger there is a tip amount automatically added to the total.

by Anonymousreply 71March 4, 2021 11:03 AM

Tipping through the app or over the phone is bullshit. If you need to have food delivered, keep some spare cash on hand. And tape an envelope to the door so the delivery folks can get the tip directly from you. Or grow a pair, mask up, and hand the tip to the delivery person.

by Anonymousreply 72March 4, 2021 11:08 AM

I despise tip jars at fast food places. Why should I tip you for something you are paid to do by the owner. You are paid by minimum wage. Tipping are mostly for waiter jobs who are not being paid by minimum wage.

by Anonymousreply 73March 4, 2021 11:26 AM

He has striking eyes. If he removes those piercings, I'll give him a tip.

by Anonymousreply 74March 4, 2021 12:01 PM

R11 - wins best DL post of the day.

by Anonymousreply 75March 4, 2021 12:42 PM

I left a $2.00 tip for a Great Clips stylist the other day. I don't know why; she was surly.

by Anonymousreply 76March 4, 2021 12:58 PM

I tip cash to make sure it goes to them. Never do the online thing. Minimum $12 for food. More for grocery delivery.

by Anonymousreply 77March 4, 2021 1:04 PM

R67, we have so-called "liberals" and "moderates"on DL who have said far worse about AOC (words like "cunt") for fighting for that living wage than they ever have about the GOP.

by Anonymousreply 78March 4, 2021 1:08 PM

I haven't ordered food in ages. That was a thing I did with friends when we were at someone's place. We ordered pizza for all of us and watched a movie or played board games.

During this pandemic I cook for myself and keep any contact at a bare minimum.

by Anonymousreply 79March 4, 2021 1:17 PM

R79, but if you can afford takeout, you should do it to support local business. They're struggling right now.

by Anonymousreply 80March 4, 2021 1:20 PM

I support local business through Instacart.

by Anonymousreply 81March 4, 2021 1:23 PM

This person has to be an FTM, right?

by Anonymousreply 82March 4, 2021 3:18 PM
but if you can afford takeout, you should do it to support local business.

No offense, but I prefer to be in control of handling my food right now. With that I mean preparing and cooking it.

by Anonymousreply 83March 4, 2021 3:25 PM

Anyone not tipping right now is a disgusting human being.

by Anonymousreply 84March 4, 2021 3:26 PM

In 15 months of the pandemic there has never been a case of a food-borne Covid transmission.

by Anonymousreply 86March 4, 2021 3:57 PM

R82 how is that at all relevant or any of your concern?

by Anonymousreply 87March 4, 2021 4:03 PM

It's ironic some of the trolls on here who have no problem paying shipping fees to order all kinds of shit online from eBay, Amazon, and what not, when UPS drivers, DHL drivers, USPS workers, make a living wage already. But you order food and have it delivered from Uber Eats, knowing full well that the drivers make shit wages and depend on those tips, and have to put wear and tear on their *own* vehicles and pay for their *own* gas to do it - and you scoff at it with the usual excuses:

- "Well you chose to do that job"

- "Tipping is optional"

- "They probably put their dick in my food and picked at it"

- "They're grifters for expecting a tip"

- "My food was cold"

Don't go out to eat or have food delivered to you if you are not going to tip, period. You *know* these people rely on those tips as their wages - stop feigning naĆÆve. Here's a thought, why don't you just get your own shit via curbside pickup you lazy, cheap, rotten, condescending cunts? Nobody picking at your food, no need to pay for delivery fees and tip, and I'm sure it will be piping hot by the time you get home with it.

by Anonymousreply 88March 4, 2021 4:35 PM

There's no money in delivering food:

Generally, higher sales are more likely to yield profits as the higher volumes help efficiency. The aggregators, such as Grubhub, Uber Eats and DoorDash, have yet to report legitimate profits—though executives with such companies have continued to assure investors that day will come.

But Domino’s experience suggests that profitability is not so easy.

Domino’s may excel in the business of delivering food to consumers’ doors, but that business is just a means to an end. Its real goal is to sell more pizzas, which has far more profitability potential. Domino’s typically keeps its prices down on delivery in part to sell more of those pizzas. But if a company as data-driven and as experienced at delivery as Domino’s can’t make a profit off of that service, it makes us wonder whether anybody can.

I’ve got a solution:

Stop eating so much high-carbohydrate crap that will make you fat, sick, and nearly dead. You don’t need any carbohydrates to live. You will not die if you omit them from your diet. You will also save money because you will be buying less and better food. That in turn will also cause you to save money on your medical bills because you will be sick less often.

by Anonymousreply 90March 4, 2021 5:03 PM

Wtf...since when do white guys deliver food?

by Anonymousreply 91March 4, 2021 5:06 PM

Since desegregation put the real master race at the top of the heap where they belong.

by Anonymousreply 92March 4, 2021 5:08 PM

I don't think that's a guy R91...

by Anonymousreply 93March 4, 2021 5:12 PM

He has three jobs and he says he’s still going to end up out on the street? Something about this does not add up.

by Anonymousreply 94March 4, 2021 5:14 PM

Here's a tip for you, fatso:

Take the snot catcher out of your nose and grow up.

by Anonymousreply 95March 4, 2021 5:19 PM

Let's see, we've got racism, transphobia, rabid classism, and a large dollop of fat shaming. Not surprising that this thread brought out every single troll DL has.

by Anonymousreply 96March 4, 2021 5:23 PM

The reason why these businesses aren't profitable is because like so many things these days, it's a ridiculous money-grab.

Many goods and services could be viable if it weren't for the stock market and venture capital demanding top dollar returns for their investments. This means in order to be viable in the stock/investment markets, that an app service like Uber Eats has to gouge the restaurateur, the driver, and the customer, and it becomes another example of the rent is too damn high.

A lot of new snack food products - plant-based, Paleo, etc. - are the same way. Simple ingredients manipulated and put in a bag or box. But I've noticed that in nearly every case, these products are retail priced at about $1 per ounce.

Beyond Meat and Impossible products are also culprits. They tried recently to jack their prices up to about $10/lb retail, but I also noticed my local grocery stores responded by clearing their expired products, and now they're back to a less ridiculous $7/lb.

by Anonymousreply 97March 4, 2021 5:25 PM

Fact that vegetarians and vegans feel the need to shape vegetables to look like meat is prove that humans need meat for sustenance.

by Anonymousreply 98March 4, 2021 5:27 PM

Let's get back on topic please. Is this person trans? One of you has to know.

by Anonymousreply 99March 4, 2021 5:40 PM

Yes, he used to be a rabbit before he turned back into a human.

by Anonymousreply 100March 4, 2021 5:46 PM

No one tips ME for the great job I do!

by Anonymousreply 101March 4, 2021 5:47 PM

I’ve always been a good tipper. But it is insane now that EVERYPLACE is expecting tips - PLUS adding service fees. I get it that in-person staff are taking risks and have to deal with more exposure - but it went from an option to offer to assumption of 20%. My local sandwich shop stopped taking cash and now has automated payments that add 20% - you have to press 2 buttons to opt out in front of the cashier. The coffee shop has also done this.

I know a ton of people who are out of work and am happy to help those in need. But 1) it needs to be more equitable and 2) it should be factored into pay cost by employers not added as a weird required ā€œtipā€.

by Anonymousreply 102March 4, 2021 5:47 PM

Try living in a place where they don’t charge three dollars to park in a residential area.

by Anonymousreply 103March 4, 2021 5:48 PM

I don’t think these Uber jobs are really viable in the long run. The cars are dirty and the drivers are not professional.

And now Lyft is lying to its customers about the wait times. Always says they are shorter than in reality.

by Anonymousreply 104March 4, 2021 6:07 PM

R99 nobody else cares about that but you. We all have lives of our own to worry about, unlike you. Not all of us have the luxury of sitting around with no job and mooching off of others. We just don’t have the time to obsess and stalk other people and desperately try to sift out their gender
