Don't blame the search function, OP. I found R1's thread using the search function very easily.
OP: worse than Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot put together.

Good. Cancel that asshole. Just hope he doesn’t kill someone now.

[QUOTE] Good. Cancel that asshole. Just hope he doesn’t kill someone now.
He doesn’t have the balls to kill anyone.

Have any of you watched the video? Who recorded this video? This was a private conversation with his mother. If he were in public and this was recorded with others around him, then he must accept the consequences. But I fear the day that either the left or right begin to scrutinize and control our private conversations or thoughts. If this conversation was private, I ask all of you of "holier than though" do-gooders what could be found in your private conversations with family members, loved ones, or other immediate family members. Would you survive the scrutiny and cancel culture rules? This goes for everyone, no matter their ethnicity or race.

If these are what your private conversations consist of, then you deserve to get exposed, R6. And you should know that nothing is really private in this day and age.

Using social media to vent anger about a failed relationship, is a very bad idea. This guy thought an ex gf would be discreet?

I agree with the person saying that it’s not right to use a private conversation to take academic action against someone. The other person who said that if the quoted was what your private conversations consist of then you deserve to be punished: I sincerely hope you one day realize how awful and dangerous that statement is. You should know better than to think that whatever the cultural grounds are for canceling somebody this week will stay consistent and that you will be safe from the outrage mob. Your plea for anti-privacy as a universal lifestyle among us is very convenient for the corrupt elite.
Anyway. I think the solution to this is that there should be some act passed in congress that prohibits people from being fired or expelled or banned from their school sports team, etc. for ideas or opinions that they express outside of the hours devoted to the organization in question. That way it’s not just mega millionaires like JK Rowling who have the means to express their opinion without losing their livelihood. I don’t agree with using racial slurs, as in I personally don’t use them, it’s his right to say it as much as it’s my right to say what I believe as long as it’s not an explicit threat of violence. And no, using slurs is not literal violence.

Companies and teams aren’t firing and banning these people because they want to feel better about themselves. They’re doing it for the sake of organizational integrity. If you want to recruit attractive minority candidates, you must foster a welcoming environment that makes them want to join you. If they check you out online and see that you’re counting neanderthals like this jackass among your ranks, that might be enough for them to look elsewhere.
These “cancellations” may seem like a fusillade due to all the headlines and media attention, but they are still few and far between.

What R11 said, plus, R10, money is involved. Lots and lots of money. UCLA is famous for its athletics program. The school needs to attract star athletes (and alumni donations) to keep the cash flowing, and you can't do that by featuring racist jackasses.

R10, he was on a college track team. One assumes he had non-white people on the team with him. At that moment it becomes a team issue like the one R11 describes. Do you keep one racist dimwit or do you risk alienating others on the team? There is a point where whatever "right" people have to racist clashes with the targets of their racism. He is getting off lightly, all considered.

R10 it does feel like a slippery slope, especially as people are convicted by social media these days from mere accusations and no proof. But it’s not like this kid was hacked, and he wasn’t expressing a viewpoint either. He was harassing another student, which has always been against most colleges honor code.
