Katharine Hepburn is not happy!

by Anonymousreply 256November 28, 2021 5:32 AM

This bitch was so overrated and it would’ve been if someone had slapped the shit out of her to teach her a lesson.

by Anonymousreply 1February 19, 2021 8:35 PM

Kate was just a raging cunt and a notorious cheapskate.

by Anonymousreply 2February 19, 2021 8:35 PM

Closet lez

by Anonymousreply 3February 19, 2021 8:36 PM

That was intense and pointless.

by Anonymousreply 4February 19, 2021 8:38 PM

Lesbian

by Anonymousreply 5February 19, 2021 8:38 PM

She was just having fun with them. Cavett & the crew were all laughing. And she’s correct-that carpet is HIDEOUS and looked awful on TV! Kate knew how to craft a scene.

by Anonymousreply 6February 19, 2021 8:40 PM

r6 = the ghost of Spencer Tracy

by Anonymousreply 7February 19, 2021 8:42 PM

Big lesbian energy

by Anonymousreply 8February 19, 2021 8:43 PM

She's not happy because the make up girl she was flirting with gave her the BRUSH OFF.

by Anonymousreply 9February 19, 2021 8:44 PM

Seems fairly good humored to me, the set looked better after her input.

by Anonymousreply 10February 19, 2021 8:44 PM

She was privileged and set for life and she can't be gracious? Maybe it's an act but it is not amusing at all. They just feel they had to kiss her ass. Cavett was like that with celebrities. It did get him lots of big names on his show.

by Anonymousreply 11February 19, 2021 8:46 PM

In the video she keeps complaining about the carpets. She should know. She was an EXPERT in carpet MUNCHING.

by Anonymousreply 12February 19, 2021 8:48 PM

"It's 42nd Street FILTH!"

by Anonymousreply 13February 19, 2021 8:49 PM

Humorless. Took herself way too seriously. Hypocrite. No one ever asked her why she did yellowface in 1944's [italic]Dragon Seed[/italic]? Between that and [italic]The Iron Petticoat[/italic], not sure which one was her greatest nadir.

by Anonymousreply 14February 19, 2021 8:52 PM

Never could stand that rancid sour old dyke. Her acting was ridiculous. That annoying quivering voice and shaky head. She was excruciating. Fuck her.

by Anonymousreply 15February 19, 2021 8:56 PM

"Kate was just a raging cunt and a notorious cheapskate."

She was very generous. Bought her chauffeur a house when he retired. Paid for dental care for her housekeepers kid and so on.

by Anonymousreply 16February 19, 2021 8:58 PM

Philistines will never get Hepburn's true genius, which was in marketing herself. And she did it brilliantly.

Thus the four best actress Oscars.

And she's still considered to be the greatest female movie star of all time, so she must have been doing something right.

No one today comes close to touching her power.

by Anonymousreply 17February 19, 2021 9:01 PM

They didn't think they would get her because she hated being interviewed. She only did it because she liked Cavett.

by Anonymousreply 18February 19, 2021 9:04 PM

THIS is a philodendron!!!!

by Anonymousreply 19February 19, 2021 9:08 PM

I thought she’d have had better manners than to put her feet up on the table. We were taught manners back then.

by Anonymousreply 20February 19, 2021 9:13 PM

OH SHIT, MANNERS!

by Anonymousreply 21February 19, 2021 9:15 PM

Elitist snob. Can't stand her.

by Anonymousreply 22February 19, 2021 9:16 PM

R20 bulldaggers do that

by Anonymousreply 23February 19, 2021 9:16 PM

I think she was overrated.

by Anonymousreply 24February 19, 2021 9:27 PM

She knew a lot of people would be watching and she wanted to control the visual. She understood lighting and staging better than anyone else in that studio. It's not like she wanted the microphone painted white.

by Anonymousreply 25February 19, 2021 9:30 PM

She had nice cheek bones. There. I said something nice.

She was a STAR who deserved to be a star. Her personality was famously direct and prickly. Love her or not, she was definite. She was clearly a great egotist and she would be the first to admit it. That's charming in an interview, but not much fun in life.

People who don't get her, don't see her beauty.

by Anonymousreply 28February 19, 2021 9:36 PM

R27- Thank you for the link. A classic!

by Anonymousreply 32February 19, 2021 9:46 PM

Getting Ms. Hepburn to sit down for a two hour TV interview was a HUGE HUGE deal at the time. She notoriously shunned that part of showbiz. Cavett knew what a get it was for him which is why he let her shit all over his show and walk all over his staff.

The interview is fascinating.

by Anonymousreply 33February 19, 2021 9:47 PM

Obnoxious, talentless lesbian.

Take that shit back to LChat, OP.

We’re not interested in her here.

by Anonymousreply 34February 19, 2021 9:52 PM

What are some good phycological thrillers without a lot blood and gore? Non-fiction as well. Any suggestions would be welcome. Tia

by Anonymousreply 35February 19, 2021 9:55 PM

A tad demanding of Ms. Hepburn--and I like her, but one doesn't put one's goddamn feet on the furniture! What is she--an insurrectionist?!
phycological thrillers

by Anonymousreply 37February 19, 2021 9:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 38February 19, 2021 10:00 PM

She was in control of the whole interview which is why they decided to tape right then and there, a day before they were supposed to, simply because that’s when she wanted to do it.

I think you all are taking her behavior more harshly and seriously than Mr. Cavett and the crew did at the time. Sheesh.

by Anonymousreply 39February 19, 2021 10:01 PM

Kate was treating the staff the way staff need to be treated.

That Cavit creature is grotesquely unfunny, rude and hogs the camera time.

by Anonymousreply 40February 19, 2021 10:02 PM

R35- Wrong thread!!! Apologies.

by Anonymousreply 41February 19, 2021 10:04 PM

R33, Close friends George Cukor and Lauren Bacall urged Hepburn to appear on Cavett's show.

by Anonymousreply 42February 19, 2021 10:04 PM

The carpet looks like diarrhoea happened on more than one occasion.

by Anonymousreply 43February 19, 2021 10:05 PM

The Great Kate was a unique person and the star of stars but the older she got the meaner she got. Being a closet lesbian will do that to you. Too bad she died with her real inner being sealed up. 4 Oscars but couldn't come to terms with herself publicly and possibly inner turmoils as well.

by Anonymousreply 44February 19, 2021 10:08 PM

R44 In her later, older years she doing a made for TV movie and was not pleasant to the cast. She had one pivotal man fired - his girlfriend was on the set, watched everything and referred to her as a "tough old dyke."

by Anonymousreply 45February 19, 2021 10:12 PM

Kate Hepburn was the greatest female star ever. She was the Humphrey Bogart or Cary Grant of actresses or may be more because she won more Oscars than any human being ever and will likely remain like that.

She deserves all respect that she gets. American Royalty of epic proportions.

by Anonymousreply 46February 19, 2021 10:15 PM

I watched the YouTube video and it wasn't as bad as I expected. I'm not a fan of her acting, but I think that is simply the way that she interacts with people. To put a positive spin on it, at least she was actually talking to people directly and not acting like people didn't exist.

Having to put her damn foot and shoe on the table was ridiculous, though. Especially when someone was trying to adjust the table. Who wants her foot in their face.

by Anonymousreply 47February 19, 2021 10:15 PM
Who wants her foot in their face.

Who wouldn't ? She was THE Kate Hepburn, for God sake.

by Anonymousreply 48February 19, 2021 10:16 PM

She once asked George Cukor why after decades in Hollywood she had no friends. "Because you're a bitch!" he said.

by Anonymousreply 49February 19, 2021 10:17 PM

Lesbionic.

by Anonymousreply 50February 19, 2021 10:17 PM

I don't like her and her invented guff about "great love" Spencer Tracy. She cultivated an image of unpretentious, straightforward honesty. And that's all it was. That said her performance in the ridiculous "Suddenly, Last Summer" is great. She delivers great chunks of complex, detailed script perfectly. And her performance in "Summertime" is really lovely, A pity she she so often came across as an obnoxious bullshitter.

by Anonymousreply 51February 19, 2021 10:23 PM

Suddenly Last Summer sounds like a plotline from "Riverdale".

by Anonymousreply 53February 19, 2021 10:37 PM

Did she become that way later in life because of Spencer's death, you think? She clearly loved him, whatever their relationship was. Maybe she lost her only friend when he died. He died in their home, she was there with him. He went to the kitchen in the middle of the night to get some warm milk. He collapsed on the kitchen floor.

by Anonymousreply 54February 19, 2021 10:39 PM

If she WASN’t a raging dyke, she sure could hoist a leg up on a table like one!

by Anonymousreply 55February 19, 2021 10:40 PM

Hepburn is spine-chlllingly brilliant in "Suddenly, Last Summer" though I wish there was a duplicate version with Vivien.

1. It would have made a trifecta of Southerners for Vivien.

2. It made more sense that the similar-looking Vivien and Liz were both used as sexual decoys by the conniving Sebastian.

by Anonymousreply 76February 20, 2021 12:01 AM

Cavett didn’t care. The interview was once in a lifetime. He would have done anything she wanted. It was the first interview she had ever done. She was clearly uncomfortable and weary about doing it. That’s why she went the day before the interview was supposed to happen-to examine the set and make it the way she wanted it to be.

Why is she called a lesbian? Because she wore slacks a lot? Because she was a take no shit person? I think that 's why; she wasn't feminine, therefore she must like to eat pussy. Well, for someone who liked to "munch carpet" it's certainly peculiar that the most important relationship in her life was with a man: Spencer Tracy. By all accounts, she was totally devoted to him. If she liked pussy I would assume that the object of her adoration would have been female.

Kate Hepburn was a goddamn individual and at times a near great actress. Unusually beautiful and didn't care one bit about it.

I prefer Bette Davis's kind of dynamism and more straightforward intelligence and ego strength. She's wasn't QUITE as fascinating by her own self. She accepted herself as worthy and talented. Not a snob. I prefer Davis as an actress too.

But as the poster upthread mentioned, in Summertime, Suddenly Last Summer and The Philadelphia Story, Katherine Hepburn is a very fine performer and a real charmer. Radiant and terrible and lovely and with cheekbones that can cut a bitch. She's very good in Adam's Rib too. Good comedian and tragic actress for her time. One of the best to be honest. I don't get the hate here at all. Hepburn is a movie STAR. She had it all - looks, talent, intelligence, integrity and longevity.

What's wrong with being a lesbian? Hepburn was iconoclastic and pretty damn interesting. She had passions beyond herself, but not many. She was very interested in the world and what made people tick tick tick. Well read and educated. A liberal. Superstar performers who possessed the level of intelligence she and Bette Davis had don't really exist today. They were some high class Yankee Broads.

Since you bitches want to paint her as some Faye Dunaway-type cunt, here’s another video, another side of Kate, where she reads a heartfelt letter she wrote to Spencer Tracy after he died. If you don’t get misty-eyed, you’re dead inside.

Actually it's never been proven. So yeah, there is.

What gay person would pick Spencer Tracy as their beard? A married alcoholic who was about as attractive as Edward G. Robinson? I don't think so.

by Anonymousreply 96February 20, 2021 1:04 AM

Her relationship with Spencer Tracy was amazing. He was a tormented man, an alcoholic, wracked with guilt about his infidelities and his son's handicap (he seemed to blame himself for it). He was not easy to live with. But Katherine Hepburn worshipped him. Stanley Kramer said this of her relationship with him:

"I was irritated by Kate's fear of her so-called "ugly neck; she wore scarves and high collars and "played low." Many times she would come in a room and kneel, or sit down at once, so people wouldn't be aware of her neck. During rehearsal Tracy would be sitting there; suddenly she'd come in and she'd kneel. He'd say "What the hell are you doin' kneeling?" And she'd say, very grandly, "Spencer, I just thought it would be appropriate," and he'd mock her highfalutin' accent, saying "Spensah! Christ, you talk like you've got a feather up your ass all the time! Get out of there, will yah?" And she'd start to say "I just thought that..." and he'd snap out "Just do what the director guy tells you, will ya?" and she'd reply, humbly, "All right." She'd take anything from him. She'd take nothing from anybody else, from him everything."

by Anonymousreply 97February 20, 2021 1:07 AM
What gay person would pick Spencer Tracy as their beard?

Are you kidding? Why would she care what he looked like? They never slept together. He was a homo and she was a dyke. It was a relationship of convenience, nothing more.

by Anonymousreply 100February 20, 2021 1:24 AM

Spence was a good looking young man. And a leading man for years. He was gay and was tortured by his sexuality. He was married but it did not go well and he dealt with his sexuality through alcohol, poor guy. Being a gay man was far worse back then than being lesbian. He was great friends with Kate, and they used that as a smokescreen to survive. I don't blame either, it was a horrible time for gay people.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 101February 20, 2021 1:30 AM

These people were not gay. Spencer Tracey did not act like man afflicted with homosexuality. Hepburn was sporty and competitive, but very feminine. It seems to me that all gay men deal with their problem by drinking. This is why is what classified as disease. It's an arrested sexual development and attachment disorder, combined with obsessive compulsive sexual tendencies. All of Mr. Tracey's lovers were women, including Gene Teirnay. Funny what people will make up.

Now, Mr. Dick Caveat was probably a gay. It's pretty obvious. Spencer Tracey was a man. Tortured and weak, but a real man.

Ms. Hepburn is what every woman of her time aspired to be. Beautiful. Lean. Cultured. Well dressed. Independent. Outspoken. Full of heart. She was most likely a repressed Lesbian. There's no shame there. So she fell in love with men that she couldn't fully have. John Ford and Spencer Tracey and Howard Hughes were not gays. Nope.

With that said, he’s been married twice to women - first marriage was from 1964-2006 and then to another woman since 2010. I don’t think he’s gay. Why would he have gotten married to another woman at 74 when his career had been long over by that point? It’s not like he would have had to do it for appearances sake at that point.

by Anonymousreply 111February 20, 2021 2:01 AM
How do you guys explain the affair Joan Crawford had with Spencer Tracy in the Late 30s?

It's called studio generated fake publicity. The studio is probably responsible for pairing Tracy & Hepburn in the first place. To have any of their stars outed as homosexual would have been disastrous for both the stars and the studio financially.

by Anonymousreply 112February 20, 2021 2:01 AM

"He was a homo and she was a dyke."

Oh, what bullshit. I really don't know much about Hepburn; I was never a big fan of hers. But Spencer Tracy was not a "homo." Quite the opposite, in fact. He liked the ladies and they liked him. Although he was a plain man women were drawn to him, probably due to his utter lack of pretension and enormous talent. Ingrid Bergman and Loretta Young were two of his affairs. Yes, Spencer Tracy liked to bed down with beautiful women.

by Anonymousreply 113February 20, 2021 2:04 AM

^ Yes R113. As I stated, Spencer Tracey was a real man. He was not afflicted with homosexual desires. He was a womanizer. And a hopeless drunk. That's maybe why some here think he was gay? This site is quite obsessed with things that go against history and nature.

by Anonymousreply 118February 20, 2021 2:11 AM

Bette Davis didn't go for George Cukor or ladies down under. She liked scotch and men. Including Howard Hughes and Franchot Tone. AND she adored Katie Hepburn. So that tells you that Katherine was no lesbian. And most Hollywood stars were not gay. Except for the few that were. (Davis called them throat patters:) Datalounge is full of lonely old men and that crazy Vegas Waitress. One and the same. They insist that everyone was gay. It's amusing. And Audrey Hepburn was a Nazi!!

Spencer Tracey was a real man. Dick Caveat was gay. It's not based on your wife, but your life.

Miss Hepburn wasn't sexually confused, she was kind of like Oprah. One man only and mostly platonic.

Bette was friendly with Marlene Dietrich and she adored Garbo, even though they never met. So she clearly had no aversion to Sapphic ladies.

The "real man" troll is hilarious. Keep going, bitch.

by Anonymousreply 123February 20, 2021 2:38 AM

Scotty Bowers was crazy. He apparently had no problem with adults having sex with children. A New Yorker article stated that "he was molested by a neighbor as a child, but waves away any concern: “There’s nothing wrong with that, baby!”

R119, Dick Cavett had Janis Joplin on his show fairly often and has admitted that they fucked.

by Anonymousreply 126February 20, 2021 2:48 AM

I wonder if this incident with the foot on the coffee table came before or after the incident when she berated a man in the audience for placing their feet on the stage. Her stage!

by Anonymousreply 127February 20, 2021 2:52 AM

Janis Joplin would not fuck Dick Caveat. Don't be crazy. That is funny. Janis was bisexual. She loved Tina Turner and cast shade on Ike, before anyone had a clue. Otherwise she liked long haired rock and roll dick.

Dick Caveat was as gay as they come. His nasal voice and skinny ass tighty white jeans and the affectations of constantly thinking he's clever, while being so fucking ponderous. Dude was a classic gay. Boat shoes. My grandma always said the gays wear those boat shoes and streak their hair. She knew!

There's quite a famous interview with Dick Caveat and Tennessee Williams. You can tell who the man is. It's Tennessee. He was gay, handsome and drunk. But a dude. Dick asked his usual degrading & probing questions. Caveat did much better with the old Hollywood girls. No wonder.

I won't have R126 claiming that Janis Joplin fucked Dick Caveat. Not without a strapon she didn't.

Actresses with "America's Sweetheart" images are almost always complete cunts IRL.

by Anonymousreply 134February 20, 2021 3:49 AM

No R134. Cunts are cunts. Joan Crawford was a lifelong hideous looking woman and CUNT. and s/he couldn't even act. There was your lesbian. Grotesque.

by Anonymousreply 135February 20, 2021 3:56 AM

Joan was never considered an America's Sweetheart type was she? She was a very big star but not the sweetheart type..

by Anonymousreply 136February 20, 2021 3:58 AM

R134 they almost always are. Nasty even.

by Anonymousreply 137February 20, 2021 4:02 AM

Joan was strikingly attractive as a young woman.

by Anonymousreply 138February 20, 2021 4:06 AM

Was Mary Pickford known as a salty woman?

by Anonymousreply 139February 20, 2021 4:10 AM

Joan Crawford had a good skull, but she was never beautiful. She had good dental work that completely altered the shape of her mouth. Gave her the look of some sensitivity. She lost a lot of weight and learned her angles. Had only the best photographers. But she was way too hard and boxy faced to be thought pretty. She really did have a nice head shape for sculpture. She'd fuck a doorknob.

by Anonymousreply 147February 20, 2021 4:48 AM

Telling the truth makes me a troll? You're insecure in your opinions and ideas R143. And you posted a very fake picture of Juan Crawford. I said she had a good head and photographers. But she wasn't pretty or beautiful. What's your problem?
Joan Crawford has been widely regarded as a very attractive woman when she was young.

Yeah, ok. In fan magazines of the time. Humphrey Bogart said she was a monster of Jekyll and Hyde proportions. Yes he did. And that was not from working together! No one but biographers and paid press ever really referred to Joan Crawford as beautiful. She had a good skull. Like I said.

Seems like you're the troll. Timid as you are R143. I see your other dissenting posts. 😘

by Anonymousreply 148February 20, 2021 4:52 AM

Streep and Roberts are the only contemporary equivalents. Julie Andrews is not that league. Garbo you can make a better case for. She was a true movie star.

by Anonymousreply 149February 20, 2021 4:52 AM

r148 Well she's regarded as a very attractive woman when she was young. She had great bone structure and features. Humphrey Bogart didn't like her because she wouldn't put up with the shit that a lot of men from that era dished out.

Anyway, I don't know why I'm arguing with the "ancient white fags" troll.

by Anonymousreply 150February 20, 2021 4:54 AM

Joan is a great movie star. But she's not in the top 10. You can't make a case for her against the Kate, Audrey, Liz, Bette, Meryl, Ingrid, Julia, Greta, Grace, and Mary P.

by Anonymousreply 164February 20, 2021 5:30 AM

^ truth^

Crawford couldn't act and she wasn't very attractive either.

by Anonymousreply 165February 20, 2021 5:34 AM

Crawford was a better actress than she was given credit for. In modern times, her work has been re-evaluated by critics. And you don't still get talked about all these decades later if you didn't do something right. She's most definitely one of the greatest stars of all time.

by Anonymousreply 166February 20, 2021 5:53 AM

R156 I love Joan too. But do you really put her above anyone on R164's list

by Anonymousreply 167February 20, 2021 5:56 AM

by Anonymousreply 170February 20, 2021 6:06 AM

by Anonymousreply 171February 20, 2021 6:07 AM

by Anonymousreply 172February 20, 2021 6:10 AM

Do you put her above anyone R164? Where are are Streisand and Fonda among the goddesses

by Anonymousreply 173February 20, 2021 6:12 AM

If you were to judge the screen queens on just box office I think Julia Roberts probably comes out on top

by Anonymousreply 174February 20, 2021 6:14 AM

Box office doesn't make the greatest movie star. Most people consider the Hepburns just slightly above her

by Anonymousreply 175February 20, 2021 6:20 AM

As far as screen legends/icons they're all unique in their own ways. I never said Crawford was the greatest, just countering that putrid "ancient white fags" troll who's been a nuisance on this site for a long time and his ridiculous opinions.

by Anonymousreply 176February 20, 2021 6:23 AM

Wow. R169 is really vile. What a nasty piece of work. I don't like Joan Crawford. She's unattractive and untalented and her acting is as fluid as Frankenstein dancing. But this old dude started an ugly thread every Friday night about Beyonce. It was his entry into posting a lock of black hatred towards "ghetto" people.

I know that miss warwicke was banned for her racist "satire". Hopefully R182 will be banned for his racist threats and harassment of black posters too. I will make sure of it. Datalounge is no longer a secure place for racial hate. Then he posts from the other device in his mental institute, supporting his own posts.
Crawford's close friend Barbara Stanwyck wasn't talking "studio generated fake publicity"

Good God the gullibility never ends on this thread. Those in the know will tell you the main conflict between Crawford (another closeted lesbian) and Bette Davis was because Crawford wanted to get into Davis' panties and Davis was having none of it which enraged Crawford. Stanwyck was another closeted lesbo (along with Agnes Moorehead and so many more). These people all protected (and still do) each other and they have plenty of straights in the business who work to protect them too. Why do you think Kirstie Alley wastes no opportunity to claim Travolta and Cruise are the manliest straight men who ever lived. Although I wouldn't be shocked to hear that Alley was a part time dyke as well.

You probably think Raymond Burr and Earl Holliman were straight.

by Anonymousreply 210February 20, 2021 1:12 PM

Well before Scotty there was a man interviewed in Vanity Fair and I honestly don't remember his name as it wasn't a big one but it was about old Hollywood and he said Tracy was gay. Spence also mentored Van Johnson and Tom Drake. Now what interest would an actor of Tracy's standing have in Johnson and Drake two 40s heartthrobs who had no interest in women? Tracy was very cute when very young but drink got to him early and he was losing his looks by the mid 30s.

by Anonymousreply 211February 20, 2021 1:23 PM

R119 Oh my sides! 😆 Heterosexual stars were the rare ones!

by Anonymousreply 212February 20, 2021 2:41 PM

R208- Excellent point. I have never believed that he was gay. He may have been bisexual. He was a severe alcoholic. He went in drunken benders for days at a time. It was sad and gross, but he would get blackout drunk and fill a bathtub full of water and sit in his own filth for days, drinking. It would surprise me if such an alcoholic had any interest in sex , or could even perform . Katherine Hepburn always came off as an aloof asexual to me. Who really knows?

by Anonymousreply 213February 20, 2021 2:50 PM

He was bi alright. He liked both men and boys. LOL

Some of you young'uns here have no idea of what things were like for gay men all those years ago. And it was especially tough for gay men in positions where it didn't look good for them not to have a wife and family. Yes, gay men married (and still do) and had kids just for the sake of making it look good to their families and the outside world. Some gay men have committed suicide rather than admit they were gay, especially to their families.

It was much tougher for stars in the TV and movie industries because they had the whole world peering into their lives. One false move and they'd be ruined the world over, not just with their friends and work associates if they were 9 to 5 nobodies. Many people are willing to go to great lengths to keep their real selves from being known to one and all.

by Anonymousreply 214February 20, 2021 4:14 PM

R214- Absolutely. Career killer. If one thinks about it, real acting is an art. Yes it is a talent, but most actors are very artistic obviously. Gay men and women Excell at and own this field. I do hope that isn't insulting to anyone, it is meant as a supreme compliment. So if course most actors are and were gay and bisexual. It is silly to deny this.

by Anonymousreply 215February 20, 2021 4:23 PM

R201 Love you darling! 😆

by Anonymousreply 217February 20, 2021 4:39 PM

R217- Didn't she fly one of Howard Hughes planes and nearly frightened him to death because she barely cleared a bridge? Was that her or another actress? That was so bad-ass!

by Anonymousreply 218February 20, 2021 5:02 PM

There is no real evidence, no verification at all, that Spencer Tracy was gay. Just gossip and speculation and outright lies. He was in fact one of the most UN-gay Hollywood icons ever.

Anyone who wants to know about Spencer Tracy should read "Spencer Tracy: A Biography" by James Curtis. It's like an encyclopedia of his life; exhaustively researched and documented. And it touches on the garbage by William J. Mann and Scotty Bowers. In fact, Curtis makes fools of them, catching them in their lies and debunking their tales. Here are some excerpts from reviews of the book:

“Definitive . . . [James Curtis] charts the life, loves and struggles of the Milwaukee-born, Oscar-winning screen legend in expert detail, leaving no source or story unchecked."

“Definitive . . . well written. . . I marvel at the research.”

“A great story about a great actor. . . [James Curtis] is an excellent researcher and writer . . . definitive . . . belongs in the classic movie fan’s library.” “A balanced and intriguing look at one of the screen’s greatest actors . . . Curtis has obtained access to everything from Tracy’s datebooks to his health records . . . all of this research makes possible an incredibly detailed account of Tracy’s life . . . those who remember him will be fascinated; younger readers will be spurred to rent his film and revel in his talent.”

“Impeccably researched . . . a monumental, definitive biography of one of the finest film actors in the history of the medium.”

If you want to know about Spencer Tracy, read this biography. But be forewarned; it's not trash. If you want lurid, unsubstantiated tales of cock sucking and muff diving then stick to Darwin Porter, William J. Mann and Scotty Bowers.

I love her comment “I have a [union] card”when she moved the table. The stagehands could have shut things down as soon as she picked up the table.

by Anonymousreply 228February 20, 2021 9:41 PM

R227 So what the fuck are YOU doing here?

by Anonymousreply 229February 20, 2021 9:43 PM

R227 Katharine and Spenser? Perhaps you need to do some more analyzing...

by Anonymousreply 230February 20, 2021 9:50 PM

R221 and R223 have turds for brains. Poor moronic twats.
You tired queens have analyzed this relationship more than Katharine and Spencer.

They may have been OK on screen but I think it was somewhat of a mismatch.

Katharine went on stage and did musicals and Shakespeare on tour in England and the Antipodes.

Whereas old Spencer stood in front of a camera in LA and let the editor and director discreetly remove his mistakes and mis-takes.

by Anonymousreply 232February 20, 2021 11:16 PM

@R222 caused me to choke. 😂
About this time, Harding met Hepburn when they were students of voice instructor Frances Robinson-Duff in New York City. At Robinson-Duff’s suggestion, they both accepted work at the Berkshire Playhouse and became close friends. The pair rented a Victorian house on Devon Road in the upstate town of Lee, New York, that was owned by Edward C. Bradley, and became close to Bradley's daughters.
In 1930 Hepburn and Harding worked together in James M. Barrie's The Admirable Crichton, playing Lady Agatha and Lady Catherine respectively. The play was directed by a young Alexander Kirkland, an associate of Eva Le Gallienne.
The press began calling Harding "Katharine Hepburn's other half".[citation needed] The pair moved to the West Coast to launch Hepburn's Hollywood career, and Harding took care of Hepburn, including wardrobe design, acting as a press agent and negotiating with producers and directors. Harding once described herself facetiously as "Miss Hepburn's husband". Hers was the most private and enduring of all of Hepburn’s friendships with women. "I think it's fair to say," Hepburn later said, "that Laura Harding saved my life."
Harding introduced Hepburn to Leland Hayward, son of attorney Colonel William Hayward, who became Hepburn's lover and agent. Harding lived with Hepburn for four years and put her own career on hold, concentrating on Hepburn's. She later told friends this was the happiest time the pair spent together before Hepburn became famous.

If that's not a couple of boxmunchers, I don't know what is.
Good God the gullibility never ends on this thread.

R201. there's no gullibility involved on my part whatsoever. The FACT of the matter is that I presented audio of Stanwyck having what she thought was a private conversation with a longtime friend (Shirley Eder). This wasn't a generic showbiz interview in which one would roll out the same tired "studio generated fake publicity", but a REAL Hollywood Insider having a private conversation with her friend (Shirley Eder), who was also a Hollywood Insider.

I read about the Crawford-Tracy Affair over 2 decades ago. It seems to have been an open secret among Hollywood Folk. And it's also been written that Spence had an affair with Loretta Young. I have no idea if the homo rumors about Spence are true or not, so I won't deny them. But the man seems to have enjoyed a bit of pussy here & there in his youth. Why is that so IMPOSSIBLE for you to believe?
Those in the know will tell you the main conflict between Crawford (another closeted lesbian) and Bette Davis was because Crawford wanted to get into Davis' panties and Davis was having none of it which enraged Crawford.

"Those in the know" never said anything of the sort! From what I recall that stupid rumor didn't surface until Shaun Considine's trashy (but fun) book "Bette & Joan: The Divine Fued" appeared in the late 80s. No true Hollywood Insider ever suggested that Joan had the hots for Bette. Bette certainly never said anything of that nature in print! Joan strikes me as a bit of a Hollywood social-climber who made attempts to befriend anyone who came to prominence in Hollywood in her day. She may have pursued a friendship/alliance with Davis, but I doubt highly that she was CLIMBING THE WALLS to service Davis' cunt. LOL.

A more believable reason for the feud was that Bette (being the artistic snob that she was) considered herself a "Real Actress/Talent" while Joan was merely an untalented Movie Queen. The fact that Joan had her hooks in (the well-bred) Franchot Tone before Bette could snag him and the fact that Joan was soaring at Warner Brothers at a time when Bette's career was on the decline also didn't help matters!

What's funny is that Hepburn (who came from money & "good-breeding") out-snobbed even Davis, and never once even acknowledged Davis' existence in 60 plus years as colleagues. Ouch! LOL
Stanwyck was another closeted lesbo (along with Agnes Moorehead and so many more). These people all protected (and still do) each other and they have plenty of straights in the business who work to protect them too.

Get a grip! In those Shirley Eder tapes, Stanwyck wasn't trying to protect anybody! She was serving REAL DISH to her good friend, a seasoned gossip columnist who could detect BS/Fake Hollywood Publicity from a mile away!

And for the record, I actually do believe some of the rumors about Crawford's dips in the Lady Pond. But in the words of director Vincent Sherman (who had a longtime affair with Crawford), "Joan a lesbian? Nah! That girl loved cock too much." And there you have it! She may have enjoyed the occasional pussy as a snack every once in a while but she gleefully DEVOURED cocks for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner! Crawford was no one's lesbian!

Regarding Stanwyck, she may very well have leaned Lez, but I think she truly loved Robert Taylor and was hurt by his many betrayals during their marriage.

Hepburn on the other hand gives me full-blown dyke. With that said, she dated her share of men (Howard Hughes, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., etc) for career reasons when she was climbing the Hollywood social ladder in the 1930s. I think she really did love & respect Spence, but I suspect that it was more of friendship/companionship than a love affair.
You probably think Raymond Burr and Earl Holliman were straight.

Stop it. I'm well aware that Raymond Burr was family. And I know absolutely nothing about Earl Holliman besides the fact that he (regretfully) replaced Bert Convy on "Police Woman".

I adore Kristin Wiig's impression of Hepburn (starts around 1:00):

Think this woman does a decent impression of Hepburn

Is someone going to inform R237?

by Anonymousreply 238February 27, 2021 3:03 AM

R213, he would sit in an EMPTY bathtub to make cleanup easier. No water.

by Anonymousreply 239February 27, 2021 3:16 AM

R235, those clearly were not private conversations with Joan Crawford. They were recorded either for play or for a record of comments she was putting in her stories. It's not that hard to figure out. Some of the later ones with Stanwyck appear to be private, but the best parts were edited out. BS would be on the verge of saying something juicy and the call would suddenly stop and then you'd hear fragments of another call. She only mentioned Spence once in passing.

by Anonymousreply 240February 27, 2021 5:06 AM
[R235], those clearly were not private conversations with Joan Crawford. They were recorded either for play or for a record of comments she was putting in her stories.

R240, I was referring to the Stanwyck bits after the night out with Crawford. Definitely private! My guess (like you alluded to) is that Ms. Eder did this to protect herself, should she ever have to print anything from these convos. I'd love to know who discovered these tapes and if there's a goldmine of Classic Hollywood dish laying around somewhere.
She only mentioned Spence once in passing.

And in that mentioning she spoke directly about Crawford fucking Spence towards the end of her marriage to Franchot Tone.

by Anonymousreply 241February 27, 2021 6:56 PM
Franchot Tone.

An odd surname and an odd Christian name.

And he looks rather like a frog. Why was he allowed into Hollywood?

by Anonymousreply 242February 27, 2021 6:59 PM

Fuck off, R234.

by Anonymousreply 243February 28, 2021 1:53 PM

Boxmunchers r243! Boxmunchers!

by Anonymousreply 244February 28, 2021 3:10 PM

Poofs, R244! Poofs!

by Anonymousreply 245February 28, 2021 3:15 PM

Hepburn wasn't fond of poofs.

by Anonymousreply 246February 28, 2021 3:24 PM

R15- LOL, I LOVE bitchy remarks like yours.

by Anonymousreply 247November 28, 2021 2:14 AM

r15 = Lucille Ball on the set of Stage Door

by Anonymousreply 248November 28, 2021 2:32 AM

R248- LOL

by Anonymousreply 249November 28, 2021 2:34 AM

Is she wearing Birkenstocks?

by Anonymousreply 250November 28, 2021 3:30 AM

Great Kate has famously only placed her stamp on two modern actresses. Miss Julia Roberts and Mel G.

by Anonymousreply 251November 28, 2021 3:33 AM
I don't get the hate here at all.

Many gay men love camp divas. That's why Crawford, Davis and Dietrich are popular here. Hepburn didn't fit into this archetype. She wasn't what they want from a woman.

by Anonymousreply 252November 28, 2021 4:58 AM

It has to burn M that Hepburn criticized her and praised Julia Roberts.

by Anonymousreply 253November 28, 2021 5:01 AM

I do think screen legends need second Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 254November 28, 2021 5:27 AM

Cary Grant is definitely a screen legend, but he never won a competitive Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 255November 28, 2021 5:31 AM

Neither did Richard Burton
