by Anonymousreply 6February 10, 2021 4:23 PM

No clunkers on the list

by Anonymousreply 7February 10, 2021 4:23 PM

by Anonymousreply 8February 10, 2021 4:23 PM

I wanna see LL Cool J perform!

by Anonymousreply 9February 10, 2021 4:23 PM

Sorry r3. I did look and the only threads that came up were a Dionne and a Benatar vs tina threads. Sorry. I hate the fucking search!!!!

by Anonymousreply 10February 10, 2021 4:25 PM

I know she's not R&R, but why has Carole King never won? She's written songs for dozens of people not to mention her own career. Tapestry anyone? According to wiki, Tapestry sold 13 million records just in the US. And she competing with Mary J. Bliiiige!

by Anonymousreply 11February 10, 2021 4:50 PM

[quote]I know she's not R&R, but why has Carole King never won?

She's in as a songwriter.

by Anonymousreply 12February 10, 2021 4:55 PM

I love this incredibly bitchy article ranking all the RRHoF inductees

by Anonymousreply 13February 10, 2021 6:52 PM

Why did The Clash got in 3 years before The Sex Pistols? What a ridiculous organization.

by Anonymousreply 14February 10, 2021 6:56 PM

New Order, Kate Bush, The Jam, Todd Rundgren, Warren Zevon, Tina Turner(solo), Diana Ross(solo), The Shangri-Las, are not in, but BON JOVI and The Red Hot Chili Peppers are. Joke institution.

by Anonymousreply 15February 10, 2021 6:59 PM

R13 This isn't Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones, right?

by Anonymousreply 16February 10, 2021 7:05 PM

I like most of those nominees, but has Jay Z been around long enough? and I LOVE Kate Bush, but she's considered rock and roll?

by Anonymousreply 17February 10, 2021 7:08 PM

R16 no it's Bill Wyman the music journalist. Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones actually tried to sue him.

by Anonymousreply 18February 10, 2021 7:10 PM

R17 Janet Jackson and Madonna are in the RRHoF. Why not Kate Bush?

by Anonymousreply 19February 10, 2021 7:11 PM

R19 makes sense - didn't even realize they were!

by Anonymousreply 20February 10, 2021 7:12 PM

SORRY!

KATE BUSH - YES!

by Anonymousreply 21February 10, 2021 11:37 PM

If Tina Turner gets it, she will be one of the few people to be inducted twice.

by Anonymousreply 22February 10, 2021 11:40 PM

What about like PJ Harvey and Tori? They鈥檝e been around forever.

by Anonymousreply 23February 10, 2021 11:47 PM

The article at R13 is why music sucks ass today if that's what passes for criticism.

On what fucking planet do you rank Dusty Springfield below Madonna and Janet Jackson?

And calling Laura Nyro a "Second tier" artist? When did such ignorance become the norm?

by Anonymousreply 24February 10, 2021 11:50 PM

Tina Turner should have gotten in back in 2009 when it was the 25th anniversary of Private Dancer.

How do you have a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but not induct the Queen of Rock and Roll?

Stevie Nicks is the only woman inducted twice.

by Anonymousreply 25February 10, 2021 11:54 PM

How come pat benatar is not on the list?

by Anonymousreply 26February 11, 2021 12:04 AM

Eurythmics, Kate Bush, Billy Idol and Grace Jones.

by Anonymousreply 27February 11, 2021 12:04 AM

R25, Pat and Stevie has a the same success in their solo efforts and both of them have not reached #1 in the billboard charts but stevie got inducted twice??

by Anonymousreply 28February 11, 2021 12:10 AM

R25 Tina should have been the first woman inducted twice. Stevie had a middling career built off the back of Tom Petty and she fizzled out fast.

I smell bullshit with lawyers, managers, and agents with these decisions.

by Anonymousreply 29February 11, 2021 12:12 AM

There really should be a similar venue for pop artists. Artists like Carole King, James Taylor, Bread, Carpenters, Warwick, Bee Gees, etc are always overlooked.

by Anonymousreply 30February 11, 2021 12:30 AM

[quote] If Tina Turner gets it, she will be one of the few people to be inducted twice.

Tina should have been the first twice-inducted female and Stevie would agree.

by Anonymousreply 31February 11, 2021 1:09 AM

Chaka Khan is the Susan Lucci of the RRHOF.

by Anonymousreply 32February 11, 2021 1:12 AM

Is Janet Jackson STILL trying to be admitted or has she finally gotten the hint and given up?

by Anonymousreply 33February 11, 2021 1:16 AM

You're telling me Tina Turner isn't ALREADY in?

by Anonymousreply 34February 11, 2021 1:22 AM

Janet Jackson was inducted in 2019.

by Anonymousreply 35February 11, 2021 1:22 AM

R31 Stevie definitely does not agree because she can't shut up about how she's the first woman to be inducted twice. These are Divas we are talking about. They would trample on kittens for a measly AMA.

by Anonymousreply 36February 11, 2021 1:27 AM

How the fuck are The Carpenters not in but Beastie Boys are? Neither is Rock 'n Roll but come on.

by Anonymousreply 37February 11, 2021 1:30 AM

No she isn't R35. Jackson was turned down year after year after year by the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame because she can't sing and nobody knows who she is and her career went down the shitter decades ago...

by Anonymousreply 38February 11, 2021 1:34 AM

R38, this isn't hard to look up.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 39February 11, 2021 1:47 AM

by Anonymousreply 40February 11, 2021 1:51 AM

[quote]There really should be a similar venue for pop artists. Artists like Carole King, James Taylor, Bread, Carpenters, Warwick, Bee Gees, etc are always overlooked.

R30, the BeeGees are in. Inducted in 11997. However, I do agree with you that pop artist have been mostly overlooked even though other non Rock & Roll genres have gotten in

by Anonymousreply 41February 11, 2021 2:00 AM

correction: 1997

by Anonymousreply 42February 11, 2021 2:03 AM

R40 = Trump

by Anonymousreply 43February 11, 2021 2:16 AM

Team Mary J. Blige, Devo, Go-Go's, Chaka Khan, New York Dolls, Rage Against The Machine; Tina Turner!

by Anonymousreply 44February 11, 2021 2:34 AM

And still no Paul Revere and The Raiders. They wrote and played most of their songs, and had over 10 top 40 hits, and had a significant influence on many other rock and garage bands in the 1960s & 1970s. It's politics by Jann Wenner who learned their first album had session musicians, so he blackballed them. They played on all their other albums and played literally thousands of live shows.

by Anonymousreply 45February 11, 2021 3:00 AM

Kraftwerk not being in is a joke. Without Kraftwerk, no new wave, likely no post-punk.

by Anonymousreply 46February 11, 2021 3:05 AM

Where's Connie Francis, the woman who practically invented rock'n'roll?!

by Anonymousreply 47February 11, 2021 3:38 AM

R32 I object!!

by Anonymousreply 48February 11, 2021 4:53 AM

So as usual 2/3 or more of the nominees are not Rock performers.

by Anonymousreply 49February 11, 2021 5:07 AM

The Go-Go鈥檚 better fucking get in.

by Anonymousreply 50February 11, 2021 5:48 AM

R50 = Belinda Carlisle

by Anonymousreply 51February 11, 2021 10:54 AM

R51=cunt

by Anonymousreply 52February 11, 2021 4:38 PM

Only boomers care about the RRHoF. Millennials and Zoomers only care when Harry Styles or whoever shows up. X-gens find the whole thing to be a crass boomer charade. When the boomers die out so will memory of this dumb organization.

by Anonymousreply 53February 11, 2021 6:06 PM

The conception of a "hall of fame" for rock music is very white boomer American to the core. If something is already famous, why does it need even more celebration? Why does rock music of all things need a road stop in the mid west? It's all about Boomers celebrating the glory of their eternal youth. They never grew up and still think they're hip and cool for living through the 60s. No wonder so many Brits turn their noses up at it.

by Anonymousreply 54February 11, 2021 6:12 PM

I cannot believe that Tina Turner wasn't inducted years ago. That is shocking. Tina Turner IS rock and roll.

by Anonymousreply 55February 11, 2021 7:08 PM

DIONNE FUCKING WARWICK IS *NOT* A ROCK AND ROLL SINGER!!! Jesus fucking Christ who decides this?

by Anonymousreply 56February 11, 2021 8:25 PM

Cher should already be inducted. What the fuck is wrong with this Hall of Fame committee? She's been performing since the 1960s, and she's still performing today.

And for that matter, Sonny & Cher should be inducted to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.

by Anonymousreply 57February 11, 2021 8:27 PM

Where's George Michael?

by Anonymousreply 58February 11, 2021 8:28 PM

I love Dionne, but she has no rock creds. A crime (not of passion) that Benatar is not in.

by Anonymousreply 59February 11, 2021 8:48 PM

How the fuck do they nominate Dionne Warwick, a traditional pop singer, and not Barbra Streisand?

That makes zero sense to me.

by Anonymousreply 60February 11, 2021 8:50 PM

If they can induct Joan Baez, not to mention Paul MacCartney and John Lennon for their mediocre solo stuff, I really think they could let Lesley Gore and Connie Francis in. Stop being such fucking snobs.

by Anonymousreply 61February 11, 2021 9:00 PM

No, yes, yes, no, yes, yes, no, no, no, no, no, yes, yes, yes, yes, no.

by Anonymousreply 62February 11, 2021 9:02 PM

"Rock and roll music does not belong in a mausoleum in Cleveland," Bruce added. "It's a living, breathing thing, and if you put it in a museum, then it's dead. It's worse than horrible, it's vulgar."

go off, Bruce Dickinson

by Anonymousreply 63February 11, 2021 10:19 PM

Tina Turner was R&R when she was with Ike.

by Anonymousreply 64February 11, 2021 10:34 PM

Surprise by Mary Blige. What about Mariah? She's should've been nominated before her. If Whitney got in, why not her also? They should just change or drop 'Rock and Roll' to a more generalized term to encompass all genres. This will avoid argument against those pop artists.

by Anonymousreply 65February 11, 2021 10:37 PM

Foo Fighters are a joke.

by Anonymousreply 66February 11, 2021 10:45 PM

R61 "and John Lennon for their mediocre solo stuff" Hmmm..

by Anonymousreply 67February 12, 2021 3:00 AM

The person or people behind this HALL will let anyone they like in regardless of genre, and keep others out that they do not like or who do not contribute money! That is how they decide who gets in.

by Anonymousreply 68February 12, 2021 3:05 AM

R47 She is too good for this sorry HALL>

by Anonymousreply 69February 12, 2021 3:08 AM

Some of you are so pedantic. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been acknowledging artists from a variety of genres for years. They obviously use the term VERY lightly, no longer as a genre, but as almost a metonym for all forms of popular music.

That said, I LOVE that Bruce Dickinson quote from R63. Is there anything less rock & roll that a museum and awards show? I wonder if he'll change his tune if they get inducted this year, though. LOL

Do we think Kate Bush has any chance? If this were a British institution, she'd already be in, but unless there are lot of homosexuals in the R&RHOF's voting ranks, I'd be surprised if she makes it.

by Anonymousreply 70April 14, 2021 6:01 AM

R70

[quote]The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been acknowledging artists from a variety of genres for years. Yup. James Brown was one of the first artists inducted, and he was R&B, not rock.

by Anonymousreply 71April 14, 2021 6:04 AM

Kate Bush is a brilliant artist, but she was never a thing in the US. Only a niche of gay guys really followed her.

by Anonymousreply 72April 14, 2021 6:05 AM

Everyone has their own R&R HALL Of FAME in their mind ! as it should be

by Anonymousreply 73April 14, 2021 6:18 AM

The black people will be the ones chosen.

by Anonymousreply 74April 14, 2021 6:57 AM

Why isn't Charo in????

by Anonymousreply 75April 14, 2021 7:03 AM

Surprised Cher and Cyndi Lauper aren't already in, ditto Vanity.

by Anonymousreply 76April 14, 2021 7:22 AM

They should build a fucking SHRINE to Miss Warwick. Sacrifice virgins and youths and offer their blood and so on. She is GODDESS and not meant to be in Cleveland.

by Anonymousreply 77April 14, 2021 7:55 AM

Would she be inducted as Warwick or Warwicke?

Born Marie Dionne Warrick, her last name was misspelled on the label of her first single, "Don't Make Me Over," so she started using the incorrect "Warwick." She added an "E" to her last name in the early 1970s on the advice of a psychic claiming that the extra letter would give her "positive energy" and "great success ...

by Anonymousreply 78April 14, 2021 12:51 PM

the Go go's really deserve it - i have heard from people in the industry that they are a real, hardcore band

by Anonymousreply 79May 2, 2021 10:32 AM

People are gonna be pissed if Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Chaka Kahn, Feta Kuli, Tina Turner and Dionne Warwick don't all win.

by Anonymousreply 80May 2, 2021 1:12 PM

Why the fuck is Stevie Nicks and Bon Jovi in the hall of fame but not Tina Tuner or Joy Division/New Order?

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a Joke.

by Anonymousreply 81May 2, 2021 6:56 PM

It took YEARS for a Janet and Whitney to be finally inducted; especially Janet.

When will Mariah be even nominated? 馃槅

by Anonymousreply 82May 2, 2021 7:02 PM

CHER!!

Goddammit!! Still not nominated. Unfair and wrong.

by Anonymousreply 83May 2, 2021 7:34 PM

Just change the name to the music hall of fame. Rock n' Roll has been dead for over 20 years.

by Anonymousreply 84May 2, 2021 7:39 PM

Will The Beatles or Nirvana be inducted into the R&B or rap Halls of Fame?

Just curious.

by Anonymousreply 85May 2, 2021 7:58 PM

Rock'n'roll=modern music. Some of you are so lame.

by Anonymousreply 86May 6, 2021 9:40 AM

R86 - Yes, a few of us have made that point throughout the thread, but, of course, the aspies have to be so pedantic and literal-minded.

by Anonymousreply 87May 7, 2021 12:10 AM

Yeah but Dionne doesn鈥檛 even come close. She鈥檚 not even pop.

She鈥檒l probably get in because she鈥檚 such a YASS QAWEEN these days but it really wouldn鈥檛 be deserving,

by Anonymousreply 88May 7, 2021 1:03 AM

The Foo Fighters and the Go-Gos? Please.

by Anonymousreply 89May 7, 2021 1:08 AM

The Poo Fighters are one of the lamest, generic bands that mostly never gets accused of those things just because Dave Grohl played in Nirvana and other punk bands before and Pat Smear in The Germs. So they have the punk cred that Nickelback don't. But musical they are not that different. Bud light commercial rock.

by Anonymousreply 90May 7, 2021 8:31 AM

The Go-Go's are in!

As are Tina Turner and Carole King.

by Anonymousreply 91May 12, 2021 12:52 PM

Queen Dionne is not gonna be happy.

What鈥檚 she gonna tweet?

by Anonymousreply 92May 12, 2021 1:06 PM

I kind of feel sorry for Dave Grohl. He tries SO HARD to produce even one thing as good as Nirvana's worst song and comes up short again and again and again. But he'll keep trying while he smiles big for the cameras and plays the role of America's Nice Guy Rock N Roller. He's the "rock star" that we deserve.

by Anonymousreply 93May 12, 2021 1:16 PM

Fuckin' JAY-Z?!?!

He was at the very bottom of the online voting. The very fucking bottom.

Both him and Foo Fighters have zero business getting in.

by Anonymousreply 94May 12, 2021 1:19 PM

I'm happy for the Go-Go's. Sorry for Dionne but it's always gonna be a long shot for her. Not surprise about Jay-Z. If Notorious B.I.G made it, they definitely will vote him too.

by Anonymousreply 95May 12, 2021 2:19 PM

Performer Category:

路 Foo Fighters

路 The Go-Go's

路 JAY-Z

路 Carole King

路 Todd Rundgren

路 Tina Turner

by Anonymousreply 96May 12, 2021 4:28 PM

How on earth is Tina Turner not already in there???

by Anonymousreply 97May 12, 2021 4:41 PM

FUCK JAY-Z

by Anonymousreply 98May 12, 2021 4:44 PM

She was in there with Ike r97, but not as a solo artist.

by Anonymousreply 99May 12, 2021 4:48 PM

I love the Tina turnar

by Anonymousreply 100May 12, 2021 4:59 PM

Still no Kate Bush? YAWN

by Anonymousreply 101May 12, 2021 5:50 PM

RRHOF is a business. They say they make their decisions based off "excellence" but everyone knows it's about $$$, showbiz collusion and a dash of diversity inductions to make themselves seem woke. The Foo Fighters are a joke. Dave Grohl needs to fuck off forever.

by Anonymousreply 102May 12, 2021 5:55 PM

Courtney Love/Hole deserved to be inducted way, way, WAY before the painfully lame Foo Fighters ever did. But once I saw Dave & co. were nominated, I knew they were going to get in on the first try. What a joke!

by Anonymousreply 103May 12, 2021 6:06 PM

The Queen of Universe Marifat Carey was not even nominated despite being eligible for nomination since 2005 馃ぃ

by Anonymousreply 104May 12, 2021 6:31 PM

Fela is the one near-genius level musician on the list, so of course he doesn鈥檛 make the cut. Zombie is a better song than anything the Foo Fighters or Jay-Z have ever released.

by Anonymousreply 105May 12, 2021 6:40 PM

In fairness to Mooriah, I believe you're off by at least a decade R104. She's eligible since 2015 or 2016 only. I'm thinking she might get in within the next 5 years maybe.

by Anonymousreply 106May 12, 2021 6:40 PM

This guy's personality for a few years was basically "my wife". I'm guessing he likes to be led around, told what to like, what to feel...until he doesn't, realizes he's made a huge mistake and blows up the relationship. I've seen this dynamic with The Straights many times. Whenever you see a straight man who has obviously been dressed by his wife, you know the relationship is about to implode.

Singer, writer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer,

KATE BUSH is not only a rock superstar, but a legend.

by Anonymousreply 108May 12, 2021 6:57 PM

So, Jay-Z is going to be in the ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME, but not Cher. lol

by Anonymousreply 109May 12, 2021 8:55 PM

She's the wrong color.

Meanwhile Madonna got in on first eligibility. Speaking of influence and power

by Anonymousreply 111May 13, 2021 1:06 AM

This "Hall Of Fame" has been a big pile of steaming crap from the start.

by Anonymousreply 112May 13, 2021 2:05 AM

[quote] Meanwhile Madonna got in on first eligibility. Speaking of influence and power

I believe it happened with Notorious B.I.G also last year? And for next year , I think Eminem will be eligible. I'm guessing he's a shoo-in getting in.

by Anonymousreply 113May 13, 2021 2:14 AM

Both Foo Fighters and Jay-Z got in also on their first eligibility this year.

by Anonymousreply 114May 13, 2021 2:17 AM

What is this also ran category LL is getting inducted in?

by Anonymousreply 115May 13, 2021 2:24 AM

What about me? ME!!!!!!!!!!! I want a nomination. Why I am not important even compared to Janet

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 116May 13, 2021 3:34 AM

R114 Foo Fighters were a shoo-in because Grohl is an industry whore.

by Anonymousreply 117May 13, 2021 3:38 AM

I have zero issue with Jay-Z getting in. His influence in hip hop and popular culture is undeniable. But, LL? Sure, a couple of his early tracks are classics, but then it's been B-acting and award show hosting for decades.

I'm disappointed about Kate Bush, but I'm not surprised. She's, of course, always been more revered in England.

by Anonymousreply 118May 13, 2021 4:01 AM

Bauhaus, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains deserve to be there already.

In my humble opinion, of course.

Mother Love Bone was great, too.

by Anonymousreply 119May 13, 2021 4:08 AM

This organization is a joke. I love a lot of the artists, of course, but not the majority. And much like the Grammys and the Oscars, we don鈥檛 need these people to tell us what good or great music is.

by Anonymousreply 120May 13, 2021 4:17 AM

[quote]路 Tina Turner

Fucking FINALLY.

It's shameful that it took them this long to put her in as a solo artist.

by Anonymousreply 121May 13, 2021 10:32 AM

It only took 35 years for Carole King to finally get in while Jay-z got in 0 year.

by Anonymousreply 122May 13, 2021 11:47 AM

Carole King was already in.

Tina and she are the first women to be in twice.

by Anonymousreply 123May 13, 2021 11:49 AM

R123 Stevie Nicks was before them. Tina should have been first in my opinion, but neither her nor Carole are first.

by Anonymousreply 125May 13, 2021 1:21 PM

R105 Zombie?

by Anonymousreply 126May 13, 2021 3:02 PM

It is a shame it took so long for The Go-Gos to get in.

by Anonymousreply 127May 13, 2021 3:07 PM

R120 well said.

It鈥檚 the only point on which I agree with that rancid festering gape Nikki Sixx. Though knowing him, he鈥檒l renege on that stance once the coin is right.

by Anonymousreply 128May 13, 2021 3:18 PM

Supposedly, a lot of those frozen out are mostly because they're not liked by Jann Wenner. I've been surprised that Three Dog Night has been frozen out and shows no chance, despite being dominant on the charts for many years with hit after hit. People contend, well, they never wrote their stuff or played instruments. That is the case for many "artists" in the Hall of Fame.

Even Donna Summer, the queen of Disco, wasn't chosen until after she was dead.

For fucks sake it鈥檚 not a rock hall it鈥檚 a music hall! Jay Z ? How does he qualify as rock? This whole things an ass kissing popularity vote. I wonder if Iron Maiden (who consistently sell out STADIUMS around d the woke for decades) can be indicted into the SOUL TRAIN HALL OF FAME? Such a joke!
