I know she's not R&R, but why has Carole King never won? She's written songs for dozens of people not to mention her own career. Tapestry anyone? According to wiki, Tapestry sold 13 million records just in the US. And she competing with Mary J. Bliiiige!

On what fucking planet do you rank Dusty Springfield below Madonna and Janet Jackson?
And calling Laura Nyro a "Second tier" artist? When did such ignorance become the norm?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 10, 2021 11:50 PM |
Tina Turner should have gotten in back in 2009 when it was the 25th anniversary of Private Dancer.
How do you have a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but not induct the Queen of Rock and Roll?
Stevie Nicks is the only woman inducted twice.

R25 Tina should have been the first woman inducted twice. Stevie had a middling career built off the back of Tom Petty and she fizzled out fast.
I smell bullshit with lawyers, managers, and agents with these decisions.

There really should be a similar venue for pop artists. Artists like Carole King, James Taylor, Bread, Carpenters, Warwick, Bee Gees, etc are always overlooked.

And still no Paul Revere and The Raiders. They wrote and played most of their songs, and had over 10 top 40 hits, and had a significant influence on many other rock and garage bands in the 1960s & 1970s. It's politics by Jann Wenner who learned their first album had session musicians, so he blackballed them. They played on all their other albums and played literally thousands of live shows.

by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 11, 2021 6:06 PM |
The conception of a "hall of fame" for rock music is very white boomer American to the core. If something is already famous, why does it need even more celebration? Why does rock music of all things need a road stop in the mid west? It's all about Boomers celebrating the glory of their eternal youth. They never grew up and still think they're hip and cool for living through the 60s. No wonder so many Brits turn their noses up at it.

Some of you are so pedantic. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been acknowledging artists from a variety of genres for years. They obviously use the term VERY lightly, no longer as a genre, but as almost a metonym for all forms of popular music.
That said, I LOVE that Bruce Dickinson quote from R63. Is there anything less rock & roll that a museum and awards show? I wonder if he'll change his tune if they get inducted this year, though. LOL
Do we think Kate Bush has any chance? If this were a British institution, she'd already be in, but unless there are lot of homosexuals in the R&RHOF's voting ranks, I'd be surprised if she makes it.

Born Marie Dionne Warrick, her last name was misspelled on the label of her first single, "Don't Make Me Over," so she started using the incorrect "Warwick." The Poo Fighters are one of the lamest, generic bands that mostly never gets accused of those things just because Dave Grohl played in Nirvana and other punk bands before and Pat Smear in The Germs. So they have the punk cred that Nickelback don't. But musical they are not that different. Bud light commercial rock.

This guy's personality for a few years was basically "my wife". I'm guessing he likes to be led around, told what to like, what to feel...until he doesn't, realizes he's made a huge mistake and blows up the relationship. I've seen this dynamic with The Straights many times. Whenever you see a straight man who has obviously been dressed by his wife, you know the relationship is about to implode.

Supposedly, a lot of those frozen out are mostly because they're not liked by Jann Wenner. I've been surprised that Three Dog Night has been frozen out and shows no chance, despite being dominant on the charts for many years with hit after hit. People contend, well, they never wrote their stuff or played instruments. That is the case for many "artists" in the Hall of Fame.
Even Donna Summer, the queen of Disco, wasn't chosen until after she was dead.

For fucks sake it鈥檚 not a rock hall it鈥檚 a music hall! Jay Z ? How does he qualify as rock? This whole things an ass kissing popularity vote. I wonder if Iron Maiden (who consistently sell out STADIUMS around d the woke for decades) can be indicted into the SOUL TRAIN HALL OF FAME? Such a joke!

LL Cool J showed why he deserved to be in the Hall more than anyone else that night. He ROCKED THE ENTIRE HOUSE. His was one of the greatest performances EVER at one of these ceremonies.
