Ignore this thread.

I was stunned that Carole King was not already in the HOF, but I see that she was inducted with her songwriting partner Gerry Goffin in 1990.

by Anonymousreply 2February 10, 2021 2:57 PM

It's a stupid institution. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are in but not Joy Division/ New Order are not. Also Stevie Nicks got in before Tina Turner? What a joke.

by Anonymousreply 3February 10, 2021 3:00 PM

The Foo Fighters are trash but they'll get in. It's a buddy-buddy club where you need to know the right people.

by Anonymousreply 4February 10, 2021 3:01 PM

Foo Fighters better not get in, I would hate to have to hurt someone

by Anonymousreply 5February 10, 2021 3:02 PM

Tina Turner just now got in??? You mean to tell me pop star Madonna got in before the most famous woman in rock got in????

This thing really is a joke.

by Anonymousreply 6February 10, 2021 3:02 PM

Connie Francis was the first big pop/rock female star of the rock era. She should have been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame years ago. Her exclusion is downright sinful!

CONNIE FRANCIS NOW!!!

by Anonymousreply 7February 10, 2021 3:06 PM

They should use this year to induct all those women, they're all way overdue for inclusion. Tina, Carol King, Kate Bush, the Go Gos, Dionne, Chaka Khan.

by Anonymousreply 8February 10, 2021 3:07 PM

Carole* -sorry!

by Anonymousreply 9February 10, 2021 3:10 PM

Where is Juice Newton?

by Anonymousreply 10February 10, 2021 3:14 PM

I am shocked that Ms Tina is just now being inducted. The voters must all be young white men.

by Anonymousreply 11February 10, 2021 3:15 PM

Tina was inducted with Ike in 1991.

by Anonymousreply 12February 10, 2021 3:16 PM

The Carpenters need to get in. Until then, F everyone!

by Anonymousreply 13February 10, 2021 3:17 PM

Diana Ross (solo), Mary Wells, The Marvelettes. without these women, there would have been no Motown.

by Anonymousreply 14February 10, 2021 3:23 PM

The article clarifies that this would be Tina Turner's and Carole King's SECOND induction into the hall of fame, only one other woman, Stevie Nicks, has already been inducted twice.

Dionne Warwick, Chaka Khan, and Mary J Blige all are no brainers for induction. Huge contributions to music

by Anonymousreply 15February 10, 2021 3:25 PM

Jay Z? We’re really putting ANYONE in there. It’s jumped the shark.

by Anonymousreply 16February 10, 2021 3:29 PM

Carole was not rock & roll. Why haven't they already inducted Barbra Streisand if they consider Carole eligible?

by Anonymousreply 17February 10, 2021 3:29 PM

Foo Fighters will get in before Sonic Youth. Funny

by Anonymousreply 18February 10, 2021 3:30 PM

This is a list of this year's nominees, not inductees. They have to vote first.

I'm hopeful for the female artists, especially Tina, Dionne, and the Go-Go's.

But, the voting body is mostly old white men. So the inductees will probably be Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Todd Rundgren, Jay Z, and *maybe* Tina and Carole King. Kate Bush could be a wild card though, since a lot of the voters are British.

Connie was inducted into the Lond Island Rape Hall of Fame many years ago.

R16 By rock'n'roll they mean modern music. Or did you thought Madonna is rock'n'roll if you are surprised by Jay Z

by Anonymousreply 21February 10, 2021 3:39 PM

Ironically, not being in the RRHoF is more Rock and Roll than being in.

by Anonymousreply 22February 10, 2021 3:40 PM

Billy Corgan is going to hang himself if Dave Grohl/Foo Fighters gets in before The Smashing Pumpkins.

by Anonymousreply 23February 10, 2021 3:41 PM

R7 is 100% right. Especially when they induct someone like Carole King.

by Anonymousreply 24February 10, 2021 3:49 PM

The Foo Fighters??? Ugh. RRHOF should be for INFLUENTIAL musicians, not for mediocre followers.

by Anonymousreply 25February 10, 2021 4:19 PM

Fuck Billy Corgan! His voice is like nails on chalkboard! Horrible shite!

by Anonymousreply 26February 10, 2021 4:23 PM

Once upon a time, "Rock and Roll" did not just mean white men with guitars. The original intent of the name has degenerated.

by Anonymousreply 27February 10, 2021 5:10 PM

One could argue about criteria, but that's another subject altogether. So I'll just say this: this shitshow hasn't mattered in a long time. When Madonna was inducted before Tina Turner, Cher, and other well-deserving artists, I stopped caring.

by Anonymousreply 28February 10, 2021 5:19 PM

Kraftwerk still isn't in the rnr HOF?

by Anonymousreply 29February 10, 2021 6:58 PM

What’s the big deal with the hall of fame ?

by Anonymousreply 30May 12, 2021 7:01 PM

The ENTIRE THREAD til now has been filled with stupid people with no reading skills.

They were all NOMINEES not INDUCTEES.

Inductees were announced today. Dumb cunts.

CHER!!

What is wrong with these Hall of Fame people? She was a pioneer in '60s rock and pop culture and then onto major hits and influence in the '70s, '80s and through the 2000s. On a separate note, Sonny & Cher should be inducted as well. Sonny & Cher were one of the originals with Phil Spector and his famed "Wall of Sound." Cher was also a back-up singer on The Ronette's classic "Be My Baby" and the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody." Cher herself is one of a kind, a unique icon of the music industry.

by Anonymousreply 32May 12, 2021 10:48 PM

I don't get The Cure being inducted before more influential bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, and The Smiths. Also, the Go-Gos should be in there.

by Anonymousreply 33May 12, 2021 11:00 PM

I think I have mostly good reading comprehension, but from the article linked by R31, I don’t understand the “fan ballot”. Is it just a nominal ballot that counts as one vote for the top five?

“The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame allows fans to vote on the nominees. The top five artists in that vote make up a "Fan's ballot" that gets tallied with the rest of the ballots. Turner topped the fan vote.”
