Letterkenney

This picture alone inspired me to start watching Letterkenney.

From the beginning.

Very witty show and these two are funny and handsome.

Can't understand half the things they're saying

I don’t know why, but the gays just don’t seem to be embracing this show, though it’s ten times better than Schitt’s Creek ever was. It also works on the classic three guys and a girl humor trope of Big Bang, Seinfeld and Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It’s got hot guys, including its creator, writer lead Keeso who has the potential to pull a George Clooney and is always packed into a tight pair of jeans better than the hottest cowboy you can imagine. And then as his alter ego Shorsey he’s shown one of the most muscular, sculpted butts on commercial TV. And there are actually cute and fun gay characters who may flirt with stereotype, but are actually quite original. Yeah, there’s a cultural learning curb for Canadianism and hockey (shout out to ferda), but that’s half the fun. The writing is brilliant and biting, the execution and timing is flawless and the editing unbelievable. It’s the best comedy show that most people aren’t watching.

You see I've watched those clips many times in the past year, and while humorous, I don't find them bitingly funny. I do agree that some episodes are quick witted and well done, but for some reason its just not dragging me back to the next episode. Maybe its just me though.

by Anonymousreply 4January 28, 2021 1:55 AM

I find Letterkenny to be plotless. Funny lines but no story so I usually can't get into it for very long.

by Anonymousreply 5January 28, 2021 1:58 AM

Canadian sitcoms just aren’t that funny. Even Schitt’s Creek wore thin after the first few seasons.

by Anonymousreply 6January 28, 2021 2:50 AM

Not sure how or why, but Letterkenny is funnier in short clips than in full half-hour episodes.

Keeso indeed looks great poured into his jeans as Wayne, and amazing naked in the shower as Shoresy. Daryl also has quite the body hiding underneath those baggy coveralls. The two hockey players who seem to share a brain, Jonesy and Reilly, aren't afraid to show skin. The two gay guys at the gym and their nipple-exposing tank tops (@R3) are amusing.

It's funny every time this show gets discovered by a DLer. A new thread is then made about it.

I like it as a show I leave on the background as I work. Not laugh out loud so I don't mind missing bits and pieces here and there. Stewart makes me laugh the most, and his actor is great at comedy.

by Anonymousreply 8January 28, 2021 4:14 AM

It's just not very funny. It feels like an SNL skit that should go on for about 6 minutes, no more.

by Anonymousreply 9January 28, 2021 4:16 AM

I'm Canadian and I can't stand this show.

by Anonymousreply 10January 28, 2021 4:39 AM

I'm turned right off by shows with these stupid, "quirky" fey-sounding names. It's like clickbait on a large scale. Just obnoxious.

by Anonymousreply 11January 28, 2021 4:48 AM

R7, my pic seems to show if you click twice.

by Anonymousreply 12January 28, 2021 10:39 AM

Boyfriend and I love it, though admittedly several early plot arcs and several later seasons were definite misses. The lingo takes a while to get, especially all the hockey slang, so keep the subtitles on because the lingo's half the fun. No, not much of an over-arching plotline ever and I'm ok with that.

"They have running water down there?" Love it!

It's SOOOOOO repetitive.

by Anonymousreply 14January 28, 2021 11:17 AM

It started off a short vignettes and should have stayed that way. Painfully unfunny. And the lead is a Canadian deplorable.

by Anonymousreply 15January 28, 2021 1:40 PM

Me too, R10. It’s popularity bewilders me.

by Anonymousreply 16January 28, 2021 1:45 PM

Isn't Jared Keeso reputedly a homophobe?

by Anonymousreply 17January 28, 2021 1:51 PM

We've loved Letterkenny for a while. Definitely better in shorter bits because the jokes and punchlines are a bit overused IMO. Very funny, but a little goes a long way. Wayne is hot but a bit too hot. McMurray and Coach could fill my cumbox day and night though.

I think it's terrific. Love it. FERDA!

R19 That’s a Texas sized 10-4 buddy!

by Anonymousreply 20January 28, 2021 4:23 PM

To be fair (to be Farah), it's stupid as hell. But hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 21January 28, 2021 7:54 PM

It's a little bit stupid and a lot clever.

The best parts are when they're sitting around the kitchen table, the produce stand or the bar deconstructing something: Los Angeles, swingers, porn tropes.

The insult humor is also occasionally genius. Like when the two feuding female hockey players argue over whose pussy is uglier.

It’s so fucking pretentious. If I don’t get it then I’m humorless. ITS NOT FUCKING FUNNY.

by Anonymousreply 25January 28, 2021 9:25 PM

Your life is so fuckin' pathetic I ran a charity 15k to raise awareness for it, you fucking loser R25.

by Anonymousreply 26January 28, 2021 9:32 PM

Remember those guys in high school who weren't exactly nerds but weren't exactly cool either? They'd sit around in the hallway, or cafeteria, or library and crack inside jokes that only they knew and would roll their eyes and shake their heads at those around them who didn't get their clique humour.

Those guys grew up to produce a show called Letterkenney.

It needs to be subtitled for non-Canookian speakers.

by Anonymousreply 30January 28, 2021 11:14 PM

You'd think Dataloungers would appreciate the quality of the hockey / locker room trash talking (and get some pointers), but I guess it's not their style of snark....

One of the top comments of the video posted at R24 compared Shoresy's voice to Jordan Peterson's - and now I can't unhear it.

by Anonymousreply 31January 28, 2021 11:29 PM

[quote] Andrew Kerr actually has a hairy chest.

Quite big areolas too.

by Anonymousreply 32January 29, 2021 12:55 AM

Your life is so sad we get a charity tax break just for hanging out with ya, R27.

by Anonymousreply 33January 29, 2021 1:28 AM

I've tried to watch it but the actors care more about the number of words they can get out without taking a breath than fucking projecting.

by Anonymousreply 34January 29, 2021 9:42 AM

Straight bro humor. Who cares?

by Anonymousreply 35January 29, 2021 9:53 AM

They need an actual writing staff. Most of the episodes are written by Keeso and Jacob Tierney (who directs and plays the gay reverend, not all that well, IMO).

They peaked with season 5, which produced some classic episodes on par with 30 Rock and Parks & Rec (the gay wedding, Hard Right Jay, the spelling bee, the female hockey player feud, the [whisper] dark web). This was around the time they got rave reviews in The New Yorker and The New York Review of Books (seriously).

Although there have been some brilliant episodes since (like Valentine's Day speed dating, the Century Club drinking contest, Day Beers Day), they didn't capitalize. The show has been stagnating.

by Anonymousreply 36January 29, 2021 10:06 AM

R33's life is so dull the CBC wouldn't even produce a show about it.

by Anonymousreply 37January 29, 2021 12:47 PM

Jared Keeso is hot but he knows it.

by Anonymousreply 38January 29, 2021 3:44 PM

Jared Keeso is a right winger, just like his politician brother.

As someone said upthread his show is that annoying "smalltwon Canadiana" meets an SNL sketch. I.e. utter mediocrity.
