Can someone explain to me the psyche of gay men on the alt-right? They go so hard for masculinity

I have been following Spencer Klavan and Jack Donovan for some bizarre reason. I noticed that they both advocate for some form of traditional masculinity. While reading some of their social media posts, I keep thinking to myself what kind of world view are they promoting. I get that they're trying to advocate for men and "Western Civilization". However, I can't help but think that their worldviews come at a cost that could affect the gay community. They think that gay men should aspire to some version of their masculine ideal. Other than that, they both seem to have this tendency to be this token or mascot Gay for the alt-right. Particularly Spencer. He goes on about how the right/conservatives are accepting of gay people. Conservatives may be polite to gay people but that doesn't mean that they accept them. I don't want acceptance from conservatives. And I don't want to be their little mascot parading around for their causes. So what is going through gay conservatives' heads?

by Anonymousreply 118April 18, 2021 7:43 AM

Some people are into individualism, and being themselves, rather than the forced collectivism that is so popular among a certain set these days.

by Anonymousreply 1December 12, 2020 10:42 AM

It's pushback against what they view as the hyperfeminization of the world. Which is the true, the world and the people in it have become overly feminine. They probably view conservatism and associated stoicism as being overall more manly than liberalism and its associated more "feminine" qualities.

I believe a more well rounded and interesting man is one who takes a center-rational approach to politics and life. There are good principles from both sides, just as there are undesirable extremist thought patterns dominating both sides too.

You're right, r2. Guyliner and makeup for men, shaving your armpits, wearing dresses, etc. is being normalized. The pushback you refer to is equal to how heavily the trans agenda is being promoted.

And the marginalization of women continues with mentally ill men thinking they have a right to play women's sports, be in their spaces, wear their sanitary products, etc. The crazy continues.

by Anonymousreply 5December 12, 2020 12:34 PM

Didn't Jack Donovan switch his sexuality to be bisexual?

So, he's not even gay?

Yeah, and the word “gay” is highly disfavored among Alt right same-sex oriented men, as it is among many others. “I am not gay because the word gay connotes so much more than same-sex desire,” Donovan announced, under a pseudonym, on the first page of 2006’s Androphilia: A Manifesto: Rejecting the Gay Identity, Reclaiming Masculinity (echoing, probably unintentionally, the speech Tony Kushner wrote for Roy Cohn in Angels in America). “The word gay describes a whole cultural and political movement that promotes anti-male feminism, victim mentality, and leftist politics.” He appropriated a new term, androphile, to describe a man whose love of masculinity includes sex with other men.

by Anonymousreply 11December 12, 2020 2:02 PM

It's not hard to explain. Gay men are alt-right for the same reason straight white men are. They are racist.

by Anonymousreply 12December 12, 2020 2:06 PM

Since 2006, Jack Donovan has claimed to be bisexual, not homosexual.

by Anonymousreply 15December 12, 2020 2:12 PM

And like the Nazis OP, they look at effeminate camp gay culture, decide they don't want to be a part of it and then make the illogical leap that joining some alt right movement is the only way they can convince straights that gay men are all not Frankie Grande

by Anonymousreply 16December 12, 2020 2:15 PM

Questionable politics. mind blowing sex.

by Anonymousreply 17December 12, 2020 2:28 PM

When attributing things like guyliner to the trans agenda and feminization of gay culture, we should keep history in mind and acknowledge that things like makeup and colorful clothes have only recently been the domain of women—we have probably become more gender polarized than less, in the long span of time. And not with any positive outcome—it contributes to the situation where femmy boys are told or meant to experience themselves as “female,” as opposed to feminine.

by Anonymousreply 18December 12, 2020 2:41 PM

Daddy didn't love them enough.

by Anonymousreply 19December 12, 2020 2:48 PM

I take your point, r18, and it's a good one.

It seems to me there's a lot of 'feminization' going on lately such as Harry Styles in a dress on the cover of Vogue, Ezra Miller on the red carpet, 'research' around men shaving their armpits, etc. I wonder what's behind all this. Is it really is a thing? Or maybe I'm just reading too many DL threads. lol

by Anonymousreply 20December 12, 2020 6:19 PM

R18, what the hell are you talking about? 200 years ago is *not* "only recently.

by Anonymousreply 21December 12, 2020 6:28 PM

You guys act like these people organically came to their personal philosophy through wisdom and expect.

No, alt right bullshit comes directly from the mothership. So either they are pushing this propaganda for money or they’ve been brainwashed themselves.

Nobody sits around thinking “hmmm, I should promote an agenda of masculinity for wester civilization”. Nobody says this. Nobody ponders this.

It’s only the gullible idiots who sop this crap up.

by Anonymousreply 22December 12, 2020 6:33 PM

It's about their idea of traditional (moral) values where men were masculine who would rather die than show vulnerability and be less of a masculine man in the eyes of their peers.

It's about the status quo of toxic masculinity where men are men and gay men were subhumans who'd feel like superhumans (aka worthy) when some alpha male let them hang around and sniff his jock straps in secret while being made fun of by the alpha male's group of masculine guys.

by Anonymousreply 23December 12, 2020 6:38 PM

Bullshit - it's just turning the word queer into an insult again. This whole notion that men are feminized is ridiculous. It harkens back to gender roles, that the men worked and the women stayed home and made babies and cooked and cleaned. This masculine 'I'm gay but I ain't no queer" bullshit is just the result of that. Conservative and Gay do NOT go together. Get a fucking brain their platform includes the reversal of rights for gay people.

by Anonymousreply 24December 12, 2020 6:54 PM

R24, if there are no gender roles, then why do you prefer men to women?

Now fuck off and go get beaten up by Nazis and pretend like it’s just good manly fun. Go on now. Shoo.

by Anonymousreply 27December 13, 2020 1:15 AM

r25 Fuck off with that - the whole women should be cleaning and baking and the men who make the money are just straight male fantasies forced on stupid women and some stupid gay men.

by Anonymousreply 28December 13, 2020 2:50 AM

R25 This is why the trans ideology is so stupid. A man can be a man even if he wears a dress and guyliner. It's stupid to base someone's gender identity on not conforming to gender norms. At the end of the day, a male is male, and a female is female. Why complicate it?

by Anonymousreply 29December 13, 2020 6:16 AM

[quote] Daddy didn't love them enough.

That's all. The same trauma, isolation, self-loathing, absence of love, diminished prospects, lack of self-accountability, poor judgment and susceptibility to group-think that makes any person gravitate towards white nationalism. I believe white men who are gay could find this opportunity to be in an closely-bonded group of other men especially appealing.

by Anonymousreply 44January 27, 2021 1:51 PM

Very true, R38. There have been a handful of threads trying to stealthily promote the alt-right this morning and this is one of them.

by Anonymousreply 45January 27, 2021 1:51 PM

The real question is why some people vote against their self interests. Generally, it's fearfulness and religious upbringing, combined with a belief that they will be taxed less under the GOP.

People who believe what they want over what is really happening are also prone to being alt-right and rightwing.

by Anonymousreply 46January 27, 2021 1:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 53January 27, 2021 3:55 PM

[quote]It's pushback against what they view as the hyperfeminization of the world.

by Anonymousreply 55January 29, 2021 5:01 AM

{R1} Yeah and individualism and “being yourself” should also include men who want to wear a dress. I don’t give a flying fuck if you aspire to be the next Jason Statham. Have at ‘er!

Progressive movements allow MORE individualism. You’re deluding yourself if you think you can get that in the current Republican movement. If you think Public Enemy # 1 is Harry Styles in a dress rather than say Josh Hawley or Donald Fucking Trump, then you maybe need to read up on how fascism works. But I expect you already know that.

Gay men going asshole conservative has nothing to do with masculinity or femininity, it's SHEER HUNGER FOR POWER.

They want power, and power in the form of wealth, and don't give a rat's ass about other gay men or anyone else. So they ally themselves with people who are trying to make the rich richer and the poor poorer, and promote the interests of white men at the expense of everyone else. It's that simple.

I have a dude on the side, but it's all on the level, and betraying Lucio -- who became blood-brothers with me for my second book, and has my initials tattooed (by me) on his arm -- because I decided to "explore other ideas for philosophical reasons" would be the homo version of "Eat, Pray Love."

As far at The Way of Men is concerned: It's either right or it isn't. A lot of the ideas came from conversations with my straight friends about their frustrations with their lives. It's not about me "converting" people. Let's be real. I'm a jacked tattooed guy who is more or less a skinhead. Do you for a moment think I can't get laid? The reality is I can post a pic to a hookup app and have someone blowing me inside of 3 hours. I'll be able to pull prime ass from dudes with daddy issues for the next 10 years.”
