FKA twigs sues Shia LeBeouf, accuses the actor of sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress

Never got his appeal and he seems mentally ill.

Just after Valentine’s Day in 2019, the musician FKA twigs was in a car speeding toward Los Angeles. At the wheel was her boyfriend, the actor Shia LaBeouf. He was driving recklessly, she said in a lawsuit filed on Friday, removing his seatbelt and threatening to crash unless she professed her love for him.
They were returning from the desert, where Mr. LaBeouf, the star of “Transformers,” had raged at her throughout the trip, FKA twigs said in the lawsuit, once waking her up in the middle of the night, choking her. After she begged to be let out of the car, she said he pulled over at a gas station and she took her bags from the trunk. But Mr. LaBeouf followed, and assaulted her, throwing her against the car while screaming in her face, according to the suit. He then forced her back in the car.
The gas station incident is at the heart of the lawsuit that says Mr. LaBeouf, 34, abused FKA twigs physically, emotionally and mentally many times in a relationship that lasted just short of a year. Her aim in coming forward, she said in an interview, was to explain how even a critically acclaimed artist with money, a home and a strong network of supporters could be caught in such a cycle.
“I’d like to be able to raise awareness on the tactics that abusers use to control you and take away your agency,” FKA twigs, 32, born Tahliah Debrett Barnett, said.
Mr. LaBeouf responded Thursday to the concerns raised by Ms. Barnett, and a second former girlfriend who has accused him of abusive behavior, in an email that broadly addressed his conduct.
“I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel,” he said in an email to The New York Times. “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”
The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, says that Mr. LaBeouf knowingly gave Ms. Barnett a sexually transmitted disease. It accuses him of “relentless abuse,” including sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress.
Mr. LaBeouf and his representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit. (cont.)

(cont.) Karolyn Pho, a stylist who is another of Mr. LaBeouf’s former girlfriends, described similarly tumultuous experiences to The Times, some of which are also outlined in the lawsuit. Once, the suit says, he drunkenly pinned her to a bed and head-butted her, enough that she bled. Afterward, she began to grapple with the idea that he was abusing her. “So much goes into breaking down a man or woman to make them OK with a certain kind of treatment,” she said in an interview.
Presented with a detailed account of the claims that the women made against him, in interviews and subsequently in the lawsuit, Mr. LaBeouf, responding in a separate email, wrote that “many of these allegations are not true.” But, he continued, he owed the women “the opportunity to air their statements publicly and accept accountability for those things I have done.”
He added that he was “a sober member of a 12-step program” and in therapy. “I am not cured of my PTSD and alcoholism," he wrote, “but I am committed to doing what I need to do to recover, and I will forever be sorry to the people that I may have harmed along the way.”
Mr. LaBeouf has a long history of turbulent behavior. He has been arrested several times on charges that have been dismissed, including assault and disorderly conduct, according to newspaper reports and public records. In 2015, strangers recorded video of him arguing with his girlfriend at the time, the actress Mia Goth, telling her, “This is the kind of thing that makes a person abusive.” After the men recording Mr. LaBeouf gave him a ride, he told them: “If I’d have stayed there, I would’ve killed her,” according to the video.
Ms. Barnett said Mr. LaBeouf would squeeze or grab her to the point of bruising. But she did not go to the police, she said, first out of a misguided concern about harming his career, and later because she thought her account would not be taken seriously, and it would be futile. (cont.)

(cont.) Though many states have laws that treat gender-based, sexual or domestic violence as a civil rights violation, tort suits of the kind Ms. Barnett is pursuing, with a daunting account of painful moments, are relatively uncommon; most often, allegations arise amid divorce or custody proceedings, or while seeking orders of protection. But there has been a slight uptick in civil claims since the #MeToo movement, amid more attention on the complex nature of abuse, said Julie Goldscheid, a law professor at CUNY Law School who studies gender violence and civil rights.
Three women die each day at the hands of their abusers, according to the National Organization for Women. The pandemic has exacerbated dangerous situations by forcing partners to stay without interruption in close quarters, law enforcement officials said, and hotlines around the world have reported an increase in calls for help.
In the lawsuit, Ms. Barnett describes how she met Mr. LaBeouf in 2018, when she was cast in “Honey Boy,” a mostly autobiographical film he wrote, and they started dating after the movie wrapped. The early days of their relationship were marked by his “over-the-top displays of affection,” she says in the lawsuit, which helped earn her trust.
In an abusive relationship, there’s often a “honeymoon phase,” as some experts call it, that builds intimacy and sets a benchmark for how happy the romance could be. It serves as a powerful lure; though flashes of bliss may remain, they are meted out through increasingly controlling demands and impossible standards of behavior.
In the lawsuit, Ms. Barnett and Ms. Pho said that Mr. LaBeouf did not like it if they spoke to or looked at male waiters; in an interview, Ms. Barnett said she learned to keep her eyes down when men spoke to her. She also stated in the suit that Mr. LaBeouf had rules about how many times a day she had to kiss and touch him, which he enforced with constant haranguing and criticism.
Mr. LaBeouf convinced Ms. Barnett to stay with him in Los Angeles, she said, rather than move back to London where she and her professional circle lived. It was a step toward her isolation, she said. And he would often say that her creative team used her, a message that eventually led her to doubt them.
But living with him became frightening, she said. The lawsuit says that he kept a loaded firearm by the bed and that she was scared to use the bathroom at night lest he mistake her for an intruder and shoot her. He didn’t let her wear clothing to bed, and would spin a trifling disagreement — over an artist she liked and he didn’t, for example — into an all-night fight, depriving her of sleep, the suit says.
The situation came just as she was completing what became her most critically lauded album, “Magdalene.” Ms. Barnett said she found herself in stasis, struggling to fulfill her professional duties, and confounding her friends and colleagues. “Twigs is always the driving force behind her career — always a step ahead of everyone else,” said her longtime manager, Michael Stirton. “This was an extreme change in her personality and character.” The album’s release was delayed multiple times, and a tour was rescheduled at great cost, Mr. Stirton said, as Ms. Barnett receded. “I could speak to her,” he said. “But I couldn’t reach her.”
As Ms. Barnett grew more isolated, she said she felt as though her safety nets were unraveling. The gas station incident had happened in public, she said, and no one stepped to her aid; an early attempt she made to tell a colleague was brushed off. “I just thought to myself, no one is ever going to believe me,” she said in an interview. “I’m unconventional. And I’m a person of color who is a female.” (cont.)

(cont.) Slowly, with the help of a therapist, she began to strategize her exit. While she was packing to leave in spring 2019, Mr. LaBeouf turned up unannounced and terrorized her, according to a sworn statement from a witness, her housekeeper, in the lawsuit. When Ms. Barnett wouldn’t leave with him, the statement says, he “violently grabbed” her, picked her up and locked her in another room, where he yelled at her.
Escaping him began to seem “both difficult and dangerous,” the lawsuit says. And even as she grew in resolve, she felt overwhelmed, she told her therapist, in an email The Times has reviewed. Though she had the means, it took several attempts for Ms. Barnett to extricate herself, she said in an interview. And it was only afterward that she realized how broken down she had become.
“The whole time I was with him, I could have bought myself a business-flight plane ticket back to my four-story townhouse in Hackney,” in London, she said. And yet she didn’t. “He brought me so low, below myself, that the idea of leaving him and having to work myself back up just seemed impossible,” she said.
In her lawsuit, Ms. Barnett said she plans to donate a significant portion of any monetary damages to domestic-violence charities. “It was actually very expensive, and a massive undertaking of time and resources, to get out,” she said in an interview.
Her status makes her situation unusual, she said. But she wanted to share her story because it was otherwise so common.
“What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life,” she said. “I don’t think people would ever think that it would happen to me. But I think that’s the thing. It can happen to anybody.”
THE END

Mentally ill. Borderline AND bipolar, I would think, and self-medicating with substance abuse.

by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 11, 2020 8:43 PM |
R30 not altogether.
As a female myself, I sympathise and terribly for this woman and am pleased she spoke out. She's right in what she says generally about abuse. Every day and in every way, men weaponise their greater natural physical strength and aggression against their partners; the outlook is that no child, woman or gay man will ever be completely safe from that. Violent men are an enormous danger in society because they create dynastic cycles of abuse, and represent a sociological failing as much as a harsh biological reality. However, for some reason we just roll over and accept as an immutable fact about life that can in no way be even slightly mitigated or circumvented, which is so self-destructive and wasteful an attitude. There can never be enough resources and minds working on solutions to abuse perpetuated by men.
That said, as someone currently living in a basement room in my grandmother's house, I rolled my eyes out of my head reading this endless vainglorious screed ("Camden townhouse"? Business class"? Seriously?). Given everything that's going on globally, it was somewhat tone-deaf to air out these grievances right now. There was no urgency, and a statement could have waited six months or a year until the worst of the Cursed Year after-effects have passed. Saying it now comes across like a "my earrings fell in the OCEAN" moment, because the wider context trivialises the otherwise-serious matter. The underlying reinforcement of "by the way, I'm rich" in her statement really grates. There was a way to do this nicely, and with some grace.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 11, 2020 9:49 PM |
R31 I think she was pointing out the fact that she has resources as a pre-emptive response to "She's rich, why did she stay?"
She's acknowledging that yes, she's in a much better position than many victims of abuse.

i wanna read that when I have time (in a fight with a Q type on Twitter, and yes I am embarrassed.) A lot of people DO find Shia hot (okay, me.) I tend to go for passionate weirdos though. He would def be good in bed. But....wow. That's pretty messed up. I was abused and honestly -- there should be at least one photo these accusers can point to as evidence. Even I had a few with visible strangle marks. If not, this seems more suspicious bc in this day and age, it's hard to avoid a camera. He sounds like a pathetic asshole now, guess the passionate weirdo stuff only works if you aren't an idiot.

Jesus that pisses me off because I know abuse all to well. Who cares what someone says. Try fearing you won't breathe in the next five seconds. in fact, if anything, Shia leaving and saying that are proof he wouldn't hit someone when angry.

My tween mind always imagined he'd end up the happily-obedient partner of Christy Carlson-Romano, the girl who played his sister on that show. R40 often because the first incident “it was just one time”. Often they get talked into staying by themselves or the abusive partner or even people around them. It’s easy to downplay a single incident.
Which makes it easier to downplay a second. And then you lose count and feel ashamed you didn’t leave at the start. It’s a mental vortex, and often the abusive person has periods as well where they’re “normal” and loving and charming. The dissonance makes the abuse feel less real and makes speaking out even harder.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | December 11, 2020 11:13 PM |
Zendaya, Emma Stone and Nick Robinson are examples of teen stars who got the Hollywood push and kept on the straight path. People like Shia LeBeouf and Lindsay Lohan had so many chances and they both got pushed by Hollywood to be leading actors and they blew it. And they keep getting chances and keep blowing it. There are so many other young unknown actors who should be considered instead.

Perhaps actors should not date other performers?! What's wrong with these people not dating other 'famous' people? If they want to date other creative people there are tons of talented people working behind the scenes. Tow people in th spotlight seems like overkill and sometime it devolve is to them competing with each other. .
Performers in general have tons of mental issues. Find me one actor, actress or musician who doesn't have some sort of mental health issue.
At another forum, I'm been reading a thread about a British actor who has always had an extremely positive rep, meanwhile, in real life, this man treats his live-in GFs like shit, especially never acknowledging he ever has a serious GF, he abuses escorts and there have been whispers about sexual assault allegations against his female fans.
In his public life he's presented like some sort of saint, he makes sure to be involved with many social causes. Most people who met him have nothing but good things to say about this actor. I guess he brings his amazing acting talent into dealing with certain people, interviewers and the random fans who meet him. The thread is at LSA, but I know many here hate that place. Then again, there are posters here who bring threads from LSA to DL, they always use the same thread titles.
No, R80, it's not the Highlander actor, it's an actor who presents as being straight, yet he never talks about his private life. He's known more for making films than being an actor who mainly works on TV shows, as least in the US he's not been on many TV series. Think he appeared in about three US based TV series. He won an EMMY a few years ago. he is considered a MOC, yet he's not Black.
The gossip is, he has sex with powerful men to get roles. He recently got married to a woman, yet has not announced that to the media. Much in the same way he kept his GFs hidden, he's kept his marriage hidden for months. He recently lied to Kelly and Ryan that he spent his birthday alone eating fruit! Meanwhile, his mousy wife was in the next room. No one knows why he's always kept his private life such a secret, most people have a partner. His friends were shocked he married a woman he knew less than a year, especially as he'd been with his last serious GF for almost 6 years.
People who know him, who have come into the LSA thread have reported he's basically mentally ill yet doesn't treat his illness. He can never be alone, when he doesn't have a live-in GF, he hires escorts to stay with him for 2-3 week contracts.
He has admitted in the past, as a child, he was diagnosed with ADHD and suffers from depression, yet won't admit to have GF, now a wife?!
It's assumed he's either bi or closeted. There was also a rumor he was involved with VOGUE UK's Edward Enninful. For years, this actor has been pushed as some kind of fashion icon. He has a handsome face, but he's too skinny and short to be pushed as some sexy sophisticated fashionista type.

R31 and women 'weaponise' their femaleness and the fact that most men know not to be physical with a woman, that's why there is so many women who chip away with snide comments in private with the man - 'you're a momma's boy', 'small dick' etc.
Both men and women can be cunts.

[quote] Well if one Googles “Ryan, Kelly, birthday, fruit, British actor” this is what one gets. I’m not really sure who he is, he may have played a surfer on Girls who impregnated Lens?
Yes, that's him, he played Lens Hannah character's baby daddy. The father of baby Grover. The character was from Detroit, yet spoke like surfer dude from California.
Riz Ahmed is supposedly quite insane, but he manages to hide his mental illness extremely well. He won an EMMY for HBO's The Night Of, he portrayed an American born Pakistani Muslim college student from Queens NY, who was accused of murdering a rich young woman after a one night stand. He is a great actor. He was also in Rogue One and was in VENOM with DL fave Tom Hardy.
Riz is always great at different accents, especially British regional accents. The tea is, he's always professional on the sets.
He's currently in SOUND OF METAL, he's getting a lot of Oscar buzz about this role, he plays an American punk rock drummer who goes deaf. He lived in Brooklyn for about a year, where he learned to play drums and sign language for the film. Ahmed always goes the extra mile for his roles. Hearing about his odd personal life, you think you are reading about another person, his public image is the exact opposite of his insane real life..
It's shocking how many performers have severe mental illness and extreme anger issues. It also makes you rethink their 'acting', you end up wondering when they portray nut job characters if they are actually acting or simply portraying a version of their real self. Riz's character raped Freida Pinto's character in TRISHNA, maybe he is actually a rapist in real life. Whatever he is, he's not who he presents to the public.

R82, I agree.
People in a relationship will only stay if they’re getting something out of it. As much as I hate Dr. Phil, I like his explanation of “payoff”. There’s some kind of payoff happening for both people.
Even if it’s unpleasant, a person will still stay, to keep getting it.
Sometimes “victim status” is the payoff. People worrying about them, fussing over them, thinking their partner is a horrible person. It’s validating.
Obviously, the mean person is getting their own payoff, by dominating and wielding their pathetic power.

I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.” [...] He added that he was “a sober member of a 12-step program” and in therapy. “I am not cured of my PTSD and alcoholism," he wrote, “but I am committed to doing what I need to do to recover, and I will forever be sorry to the people that I may have harmed along the way.”
This actually IS the same sort of excuse Oscar Pistorius used for killing his girlfriend: I did it, but it's not really my fault because of PTSD. That doesn't work in a court of law.
Basically what LeBeouf is saying is, "I did it, but I refuse to take actual responsibility because I am a huge victim. of my father and of being a child actor and of alcohol." Again, that does not work legally as an excuse.
He is pretty much done in Hollywood now, although I would not be surprised if his friends try to save his career just as Mel Gibson's saved his and Johnny Depp's are now trying to save his. I am surprised actors are so loyal, but I also think it is a huge mistake to give loyalty to people who are so nasty, even if they are damaged.

[quote][R89] Oscar Isaac?
No, it's nut job, compulsive liar, poseur, freebie loving slimy Riz Ahmed.
For a long time, Oscar never talked abut his personal life, but when his baby was born, he was on talk shows gushing about the baby. Oscar was born in Guatemala, Riz was born in London. IIRC, Oscar lives in NYC with his wife and child.
Here's an intelligent well written post from LSA, from someone who obviously knows what Riz's real story is, the man Riz actually is, not the image concocted by his publicists: "My source has told me that Riz has a long, torrid history with using/abusing sex workers/escorts. Of course, like anything unsavoury when it comes to this man, somehow it is swept under the rug. The women continue to protect him, maintaining a silence at their own expense, and in a way that allows Riz to prosper. I do wish it would come out in the open now - much as it has with Shia La Beouf today. But I won't be holding my breath.
Riz has followed the deceivers guidebook, marrying a woman who at least pretends to be royalty; a privileged Indian version of Harvey Weinstein's Georgina Chapman. This gives Harvey/Riz legitimacy, absolving of guilt. As in: if these proper, classy women agreed to marry these men, the man must not be guilty after all.
Much like Georgina, Fatima (Riz's new wife, she's a novelist, a terrible writer, Fatima Farheen Mirza) began dating her husband while he was still entangled with another woman. Much like Georgina, Fatima seeks to gain in status, expand her dimming career by marrying a much more famous, more wealthy man. Truly, the similarities are striking. It astounds me how Riz has managed to fly under the radar, to be given pass after pass while others - Aziz Ansari comes to mind - have been taken down."

Women, actually, have precious little fear of being killed by men; this is proven by the fact that they're always going out of their way to antagonize male strangers passing by (the Karen phenomenon). Women have the inner confidence that they're untouchable, that no man will lay a finger on them no matter how deranged the woman in question behaves.
I think that's why women get in relationships with men like Shia - they buy into the image that these guys pass in the beginning of the relationship, that they're hopelessly in love, that they worship their girlfriends and see them as goddess. And the woman has trouble letting go of the relationship after it goes down because she wants a fix of that feeling again, she thinks that romantic act is her partner's True Self, which she can dig back up again.

Men are much more likely to kill a fellow man than a woman. If women are really that scared all the damn time (when men are not), that only proves that they're weak and prone to mental suffering, and that the ancients were right to keep them stuck at home all the time.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | December 13, 2020 2:14 AM |
I think in modern Western society, women generally do not fear men killing them. Domestic abuse is actually evenly split between male-on-female abuse and female-and-male abuse and abusing each other in general. Some men actually fear women because they see them as vengeful. Like many men express fear of being accused of abuse and rape by a woman, have a fear of their girlfriend's breaking a condom or lying about being on the pill to get pregnant, killing them in their sleep and poisoning their food. The idea of women's craftiness and revenge being deadly is ancient and seen in mythology and in The Old Testament.

I don’t know, as a gay man especially starting in the 80s, I deeply feared being murdered by straight men. The idea of going into a straight bar was very unnerving- being around loud, belligerent, aggressive drunk men. It wasn’t a place I ever felt comfortable or not like an imposter who might deserve something bad happening to me.
Of the three times I was mugged in my life I’ve always been relieved that it wasn’t because I was targeted for being gay, as the likelihood I would have been severely injured or murdered seems high. Imagine being mugged and thankful that only my cash was stolen and I got a few bruises instead of having my skull crushed, teeth knocked out or stabbed repeatedly.

It wasn’t a place I ever felt comfortable or not like an imposter who might deserve something bad happening to me.
I've never had this. I've been to all kinds of bars, including rough dive bars full of bro-ish straight men and nothing ever happened to me. Perhaps because there is nothing outwardly gay about my appearance and I don't have a femme voice.

Sia tweeted her support Saturday for FKA twigs, who is suing Shia LaBeouf for sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress.
'I too have been hurt emotionally by Shia, a pathological liar, who conned me into an adulterous relationship claiming to be single,' alleged Sia, 44.
'I believe he's very sick and have compassion for him AND his victims. Just know, if you love yourself- stay safe, stay away,' she added of Shia, 34.
'Also I love you @FKAtwigs,' added Sia in another tweet, writing: 'This is very courageous and I'm very proud of you.'
Before he was with FKA twigs, Shia spent years romantically involved with his Nymphomaniac co-star Mia Goth, whom he met while making the 2012 film.
Although they were pictured participating in a ceremony at Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel in October 2016 and he said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that they had wed, Clark County contended that the event was not a legal marriage.

I wish I could feel empathy for Twiggy, but I just don’t. Maybe knowing that she also dated Robert Pattinson makes her too much of an Indie star fucker. And, I question her motives getting into the relationship in the first place when she spent all that time on set involved in what was basically memoir trauma porn seeing what happened, how fucked up he was and what must have been red flag after red flag of his off camera persona. And again his tabloid relationship troubles were all there to read about, like a bull those red flags shown green to her and she set out into this relationship for the end game payday.

[quote]Has Riz been exposed in any way? I'm genuinely curious because I have no idea. He has those beady rat eyes that I can't stand.
He's constantly being called out on Twitter for his shady misogynistic behaviour, yet no women have come forward. There was supposed to be an expose in The NY Times, then, nothing.
I don't believe "you sound like a hysterical white woman accusing a man of color because you don’t like his eyes". What a stupid statement. No one is accusing Riz because he's a MOC, he's accused because he's a predator. who has ben getting away with this shit for years. Where the hell did that other poster get that idea, that Riz is getting accused because he's a MOC.
Sleazebag Aziz Ansari was grabbing women's asses in comedy clubs, this was before he got famous, yet his management and publicists managed to wipe all that away.
Riz sure does have crazy eyes, but I wouldn't call them beady eyes. He looks like the Geico lizard, he has huge eyes, sometime he looks thoroughly insane.

I don’t think we care about Riz here in the US like they must in GB, he’s not much on people’s radar to begin with let alone a deep dive into his personal life foibles. But I hope they are enough to keep him from an Oscar nom, we don’t want another Casey Affleck like incident. One experience of Brie Larson’s deadly side eye and no clapping is enough for one lifetime.

The thing is, the whispers about so many of these predatory male performers have been out there for years, the accusations either get buried by the performer's management or the performer's rabid fans simply don't give a shit.

Riz Ahmed is also a rapper. He's been acting and rapping for years. His first song was banned on the BBC.
His lyrics are some of the most ridiculous and misogynistic you will ever hear. In various interviews he has defended those lyrics by claiming to be "portraying a character”, in other interview he claims, “When I rap, it’s the most real I can be, because it’s me, I'm not playing a role, like when I act.” WTF is he talking about?! This man cannot seem to remember what he says in his interviews, When you lie so much, it's difficult to remember what you said.
A sample of his lyrics: "You're a heart shaped, tart faced Rubik's cube You little fast paced, dark-laced floozy you Why don't you love me? Tell me I got you But once you want me, I won't want you In my bedside table there's a drawer for you Red fishnets, hair clips, loads of lube There's a dirty laundry bag full of clothes for you My clean sheets are spoiled but I'm over you I wanna walk tall knowing that I'm owning you Check check, kick about, one two, one two Give it up, get it out, say I got you You can't have all of me But give me all of you I wanna walk tall knowing that I'm owning you"
This is the same man who calls himself a feminist. Straight women need to beware of fake woke men, especially those who claim to be feminists.

I know people who know Riz. The man has a big mouth, he tells his 'friends' everything. Riz cannot keep his big mouth shut. He tells everyone the minute details of his personal life, yet, he cannot mention to the showbiz media that he has anything resembling a personal life.
A few years ago, a young woman in Brooklyn posted the PMs Riz sent her friend, a college student he picked up at Brooklyn party. At the time, he was living in Brooklyn with his last GF, the biracial African/Irish woman. Riz is one hot mess.
Here's some guy posting about what Riz told his cousin about the VENOM film.

Ironically, Riz isn't all that well known in his home country. He's currently in California with his wife, who grew in California. IIRC, her first novel was the first book published on DL fave Sarah Jessica Parker's Hogarth imprint.
The marriage is already off to a rocky start, Riz wants to live in both the US and London, he's still looking for international fame. Wifey hates the London weather. In the US then with either settle in Brooklyn or LA.
The talk is, Riz married this dull pious 10 years younger Muslim woman to clean up his sleazy fuckboi image. His friends all agree the marriage will not last, mostly because Riz enjoys lots of sexual variety, which includes men. If the wife sticks around, it's only because she wants Riz to make her novel into a film and get one of her brothers into show business. His friends feel this marriage is more about a business arrangement than a union based on love and respect.

Yes, it is a real pity for both parties that their public profile has come to this. You’d think people with their looks and artistic talents might have better things to do. As a society, we really haven’t figured out how to express or honour or manage emotions and conflict, in ways that don’t hurt others.
In particular Shia as a young man impressed me. He was one of the few American screen actors of his generation who had the energy, range, and charisma to make it in big movies as a comedy star. He obviously hid his psycho rage and entitlement well, as he always came across as such a nice and friendly young man in press. It’s true what they say, you never really know a guy.
The arty disaffected self-righteous hipster bully gimmick isn’t working for him, any more than it does for Joaquin Phoenix & James Franco. People always liked and responded to him as a loud goofy eccentric, but only the loveable easygoing socially-acceptable one he started out as.
Let’s honour and remember the good times.

Being called "a straight white woman cunt” by the vile individual @R196 and told by another @R195 that I had “zero proof” just proves that DL is now filled with close-minded morons who simply enjoy name calling. If a poster doesn't like what's being posted in a thread, or what another posts, there is no reason to be a bitchy queen. Over the past few years, so many here seem to thrive on being bitchy for no reason. If I'm not interested in a thread, I simply don't go into it. Why do these people argue because they don't believe, or agree with, what's being posted?
The facts are: I have tons of proof about Riz’s behaviour. I already stated, I know people who know him, they talk about him because he's screwed them over, he doesn't just treat women like shit, he uses everyone, even his friends. Last year, while living with his now wife, Riz used a longtime family friend, a man, to lure in a gorgeous British model, the model was having none of it. The model called him, "A short angry bitter man." Riz even went as far as sending her jewelry, she immediately sent it back to him.
I assure you I'm not a straight woman. Is that the best insult a DL poster can come up with, that a poster they don't agree with is "a straight white woman"? A Frau? How juvenile.

Riz's older brother Kamran is gay and a psychiatrist. Perhaps Riz needs to be treated for his mental illness? Riz is, ironically, always promoting his brother's practice and his brother's mental health articles in The Guardian. Riz even uses his family to help his career.
While Riz might not be shooting innocent animals to get into a role like Shia has claimed to do, Riz’s life is just as bizarre and fucked up as Shia’s. The huge difference, Riz has managed to keep his real life on the down low for his entire career, there is next to nothing negative about him in the press, except the LSA thread which is very detailed. Even in The NY Times magazine cover interview Riz did few years ago, he managed to side-step anything about his personal life. At Twitter, some people called out the NY Times writer Carvell Wallace about that, asking Mr. Wallace, had the person he interviewed been an actress, would he have also avoided asking the woman about her personal life. It seems Riz's management is adamant that he never be asked about his private life or else he won't grant any interviews?
The fact that several people, who don't know each other, are saying the same EXACT things, usually points to the info being true. The LSA thread started positive enough, then devolved into lots of people coming in and revealing who Riz really is.
Riz has cultivated an image of kindness, concern and he claims to be a feminist, in his real life he treats women like absolute dirt. Fans see him taking his mom to Buckingham Place and being 'the good son'. The hypocrisy is glaring. Riz is only decent to those who can help him, otherwise he’s arrogant and rude. He attended Oxford, he thinks he's better than the people he grew up with in working class Wembley. He’s somehow managed to cultivate a positive image of concern, he’s always at his Twitter mentioning many causes, always trying to help marginalized people.
You’re right, Riz might not yet be exposed because he’s valuable to some people, yet not valuable enough, his last two films were independent films, he's ben auditioning for roles he wants, yet not getting hired. He’s hardly in Tom Cruise/Will Smith blockbuster big money territory. He's not worth more than 2-3 million if that much.
His UK series Englistan, which he promoted for many years, was shelved because he fired the British South Asian writers, then hired white writers, to write about the SA experience in the UK? That made little sense, especially as the series was supposed to be about 30-40 years of a SA family living in the UK.
Riz basically goes where the money is, he uses anyone and everyone who can help him. The other information is, he’s nearly broke. The tea is he sold his last London apartment because he's broke, he's now living in a London rental. While currently in California finishing off his INVASION role with Octavia Spencer, he's been living with his in-laws! His wife wasn't paid much for her last novel, she married Riz thinking he could revive her dead writing career. What a shit storm.
Riz has been burning way too many bridges, his arrogant behaviour is now affecting his career. His friends don't give his business arrangement/marriage very long.

Riz is no fool, over the years he’s made sure to align himself with important famous South Asians, both in the London and in NYC, people in show business and in politics. One thing Riz sure is, he extremely intelligent. This man got two scholarships, as a child, one to a super expensive private school and another scholarship to Oxford. Riz is extremely crafty too.
The list of these people he claims as friends is vast, such as the Pakistani writer Mohsin Hamid (Riz is supposedly set to appear in the film version of Mohsin’s book, “Exit West”, Riz already appeared in the film version of Mohsin’s “The Reluctant Fundamentalist"), Indian director Mira Nair, NYC based actor/comedian Aasif Mandvi, British musician Nitin Sawhney, London Mayor Sadiq Khan and many others the white readers here might not be familiar with. He became close with John Turturro during The Night Of.
Riz lures these people in with his wit and charm, but it’s all a facade. Not sure what Shia is about, as he sure doesn't appear to have ANY charm or likability factor. Ever think this ewomen actually think they can change him?
No one can deny Riz is an excellent actor, his acting appears to extend to his life away from his profession, he’s basically always acting. Always 'on'.
I do realize that many people who align themselves with performers are as delusional as the performers, these types of people thrive on fame through association. Of course, there are female and male clout chasers, people who feel better about themselves when around rich and famous people. People who lack their own talent, who need to be around others who have real talent. That concept is not new.
The people here name calling me because of my posts abut Riz seem as unhinged and angry as he is. They must either be rabid fans of his or they simply cannot accept the truth about celebrities. Way too many people are obsessed with celebrities. Celebrities do nothing more than entertain, they sure aren't curing the world of horrible diseases or discovering another planet. They make way too much money for what they actually do. Scientists, doctors, teachers and researchers should be super wealthy, yet entertainers will always make the huge bucks. Of course, I do realize successful celebrities keep others working and give those people careers.
Someone as disgusting as Shia doesn’t deserve his career. Throughout this thread I can see fools going on about his “hot” body. Seriously? Now who is insane? Meanwhile, they are blaming the women Shia has lured in. Calling them gold diggers or whatever.
Sia? That woman has always had her own mental health issues, take that info as you want to. I can sure see Sia being lured in by any man or woman. She's as crazy as the men and women she dates. At one point, didn't she claim to be a lesbian? Is she now bi?

I LOVE how unhinged R239 had become, again, calling me a "Riz hating straight white cunt" then assuming that's going to make me angry, it just makes me laugh even more, especially as I'm a gay man in a LTR.
I suggest, R239 make an appointment wit Riz's psychiatrist brother! 😂 🤣😆😂 🤣😂😆
This poster also sounds like a racist, he keeps calling me "white". Funny thing is, I'm NOT white, I'm a gay British South Asian man. R239 is also a misogynist, he keeps mentioning "cunt" in almost every post directed to me. Brother, you need some heavy duty HELP, actually LOTS of help!
Back to Riz, his last GF, the biracial American woman fits into the clout chaser category perfectly, she’s full of herself, yet talent free. She gets by on her looks and youth. Riz usually fucks much younger women, and men, his wife is 10 years younger.
The last ex-GF is pushing 30, still unemployed and living off a succession of various wealthy men. She recently broke up with a rich Creative Director, a man who works on major fashion campaigns.
Riz's friends assumed that GF was an escort, as he uses escorts a lot. During their relationship, if it could have been called a relationship, especially as Riz cheated throughout their time together, she had no means of financial support and still doesn’t. She lives in a Brooklyn brownstone. How can anyone live in a gentrified area of Brooklyn yet not have a job? She doesn't come from wealth, her mom is a community activist. She's always posting photos of her vacations, partying and not doing much else. One person posted at her IG, "When are you not on vacation?" Sounds shady to me.
Riz friends wonder how much he pays these escorts to keep quiet. That could explain him now being broke.
Riz also asks his ex-GFs to signs NDAs. I wonder does Shia do this too? I guess not, otherwise, why would FKA Twigs and Sia be talking to the press? If they signed NDAs wouldn't they get sued?

Riz's GF before the last biracial woman, was a Pakistani/Dutch trust funder. This woman actually supported Riz, she paid her way during their years together. She sure didn’t need Riz’s money. She was simply happy have been with a 'famous' man. Back in Islamabad, she hangs with the wealthy Slackistan trust funders and famous actors.
The biracial African/Irish woman is attractive, yet talent-free, she manages to hang with lots of talented people who work in creative fields, they throw her some work occasionally. Other than those crumbs, rich men support her.
Over the years, this woman dated several men from wealth, she assumed Riz was rich, he isn't. One can imagine the shitload of lies he told her. At Wesleyan college, this woman managed to hook up with Julia Louis-Dreyfus musician son. Most people are aware Julia is from massive wealth, her late father was a billionaire.
Riz will eventually be exposed, all he needs is one person to open the floodgates. It’s been taking awhile, but it will happen. Someone so awful as this man doesn’t deserve the constant gushing accolades he gets. Let alone, an Oscar nomination. That's the current buzz, he will be nominated for an Oscar for Sound of Metal.

This saga just proved that mentally ill people attract and seek each other out, to abuse and be abused, rinse and repeat. Twiggy is an insecure famewhoring star fucker who will fuck anybody with brand name visibility even if they dont take a bath for weeks. Shia is an entitled hopeless mental case whohas been given more chances than he deserves. Sia inserting herself into this discussion just turned everything to comedy. These things somehow dont happen to Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks.

[quote] Not sure what Shia is about, as he sure doesn't appear to have ANY charm or likeability factor.
As a young man, he once did, and with acres to burn. Yet somehow, burn through it all he did.
He had a window of dazzling opportunity, c.2006-8. He was heartbreaking and subtle in the atmospherically haunting A GUIDE TO RECOGNIZING YOUR SAINTS (2006), alongside the superb Dianne Wiest and a surprisingly-affecting Channing Tatum. Shia's character in that movie is not gay, but he does have a strong, clear, and unapologetically homoromantic attachment to and affection for his best friend (played by Martin Compston, best known for his role in LINE OF DUTY).
This is the only film where the thought occurred to me that Shia himself could be interested in men beyond the level of friendship, as he seemed to have the right understanding of same-sex tenderness that doesn't show too often in male actors. Once you notice that, you realise there is something much calmer and brighter and more natural about him acting opposite men as opposed to women. Heaven knows he might do better as a gay man, because he's having no luck with women, even if he is crazy about them exclusively.

by Anonymous | reply 262 | December 15, 2020 1:37 PM |
R260 Frankie pulled a Mariah "I don't know her". Have to respect that.
Muniz got out of the acting industry because he knew it was toxic, and because he became more interested in other things (music, sports, world travel, business) that he had the money to explore. Despite myriad health problems and a legacy that looms large, these days Frankie nonetheless seems to be enjoying a low-key happy fulfilled civilian life filled with different pursuits - all that most everyday people want. His wife fell pregnant three months ago, too, so he's soon to be a first-time father. I don't see how or why he can be considered a loser by anyone (except maybe by soulless sharkish Hollywood standards).
And even in their younger days, why would Shia have felt threatened enough to start shit-talking? Grade-school Shia had a coveted contract with Disney, then went straight on to do some well-respected and/or well-beloved films. It's not like he was languishing in obscurity as a young actor while Frankie was soaring. It's obvious to most that Shia is more talented an actor, and I'd venture it was obvious even back then. Shia & Frankie don't even look or act alike, so I can't imagine they would have been up for the same roles, even though Shia implies this may have been the case. This comes across like bitter personal talk. Did Frankie publicly shoot down Shia's advances when they were both at a tween industry event, or something?
by Anonymous | reply 263 | December 15, 2020 1:45 PM |
It is odd that Shia felt threatened by Frankie. First of all Frankie wasn't ever going to transition to an adult star. He was too cutesy and short and too associated as Malcolm. It was like a Gary Coleman syndrome. Frankie was down-to-earth and knew this and so did his costars too. That's why he invested and focused on other things like his hobbies. He is set for life from Malcolm and those kid movies he did. Hilary Duff is also similar she figured early that she wouldn't be disassociated with her tween image as did the Olsen twins and they all invested that money and are living well despite some personal issues.
Shia LaBeouf, Lindsay Lohan, Zac Efron and Amanda Bynes were the ones most set up for a Hollywood career with the film offers and contracts they secured. Shia is batshit insane. Amanda unfortunately fell mentally ill. Lindsay is a drugged out mess. Zac had drug and drinking problems but is having a bit of a rebound.

Just a year ago, Shia LaBeouf was having a career resurgence. After being widely praised for his autobiographical film, “Honey Boy,” which he wrote and starred in, and the indie drama “The Peanut Butter Falcon,” LaBeouf landed a coveted role in the upcoming thriller, “Don’t Worry Darling,” the highly anticipated follow-up to Olivia Wilde’s directorial breakout, “Booksmart.”
The project was buzzy around town, sparking a major bidding war, before landing at New Line, with a handful of high-profile actors angling for the role that ultimately went to LaBeouf. For LaBeouf, “Don’t Worry Darling” represented a professional victory. After a well-documented string of legal woes and a bizarre timeline of erratic behavior and stints in rehab that that caused many studios to distance themselves from him, the film signaled LaBeouf’s possible return to a more mainstream career.
But then in September, LaBeouf was officially moved off the project. Instead, studio sources announced that Harry Styles would be replacing him, citing a scheduling conflict.
It turns out that wasn’t the full story. Variety has learned LaBeouf was dropped from the film. Though shooting had not started yet when LaBeouf departed, insiders close to the project say LaBeouf displayed poor behavior and his style clashed with the cast and crew, including Wilde, who ultimately fired him.
Wilde didn’t respond to requests for comment for this story. LaBeouf’s publicist declined to comment. A representative from New Line also declined to comment on the matter.
“He is not an easy guy to work with,” a source close to the film says, adding that LaBeouf was “off-putting” to those associated with the project, particularly Wilde, who is known to build collaborative sets with a “zero asshole policy.”

by Anonymous | reply 287 | December 25, 2020 3:20 AM |
[quote] And yet, unlike Lindsay Lohan, LaBeouf still got a pass, constantly working, even if not on multi-million dollar tentpoles, but in independent movies, such as Andrea Arnold’s “American Honey,” and mid-budget films, like Ayer’s “The Tax Collector,” released earlier this year. His erratic behavior almost seemed to steer his career in a new artistic direction, as his brand became synonymous with unpredictability. And in a town where recovery is rightfully de-stigmatized, his struggle with addiction has garnered sympathy, as has his troubled upbringing and formative years as a child star.
Key difference, Variety. Lohan was a mess and never showed up for work.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | December 25, 2020 3:25 AM |
I'd be interested to know if Olivia Wilde really did fire LaBoof for his 'off-putting attitude', or if she already knew this story was coming.

Freedman said that his clients attempted to settle the matter privately, before going public with the lawsuit, asking LaBeouf to make a donation to an organization for domestic violence victims and “agree to receive meaningful and consistent psychological treatment.” The plaintiff’s attorney says his client filed the suit when LaBeouf was “unwilling to agree to get appropriate help.”
In a statement to Variety, LaBeouf’s attorney, Holley, disputes Freedman’s claim that LaBeouf was unwilling to settle the matter. At the time, LaBeouf had different legal representation. LaBeouf’s attorney also says the actor is currently exploring options for long-term, inpatient treatment.
“When these allegations first came up a year ago, Shia immediately accepted responsibility for the many things he had done wrong and expressed his willingness to do what Twigs wanted him to do, almost all of which were perfectly reasonable,” Holley says. “To that end, he paid for, scheduled, rescheduled (when she changed the date), and traveled from another country to attend the mediation set up by the lawyers for both sides. When Twigs’ lawyer cancelled the mediation, Shia’s lawyer tried to get it rescheduled. Shia’s position has never changed and I have reached out to Mr. Freedman to see how things might get back on track.”
Today, LaBeouf’s attorney says he acknowledges his issues, and remains open and willing to make things right.
“Shia needs help and he knows that,” LaBeouf’s attorney tells Variety. “We are actively seeking the kind of meaningful, intensive, long-term inpatient treatment that he desperately needs.”
FKA Twigs is demanding a trial by jury in the civil suit, which states she never reported anything to law enforcement, at the time of the alleged abuse, feeling misguidedly that she would harm LaBeouf’s career if she went to the police. She also did not trust that the police would take her account seriously – a common fear of sexual abuse victims.
Asked if FKA Twigs has any current plans to go to the police to bring about criminal charges, her attorney declined to provide any insight, citing client privileged information.

Smells like bullshit. No one stopped him from going to rehab or getting therapy a year ago. The idea that he'd only do it in the context of mediating a lawsuit completely contradicts the notion that he acknowledged wrongdoing and agreed he needed help.

Exactly. Now that it's fucking up his career, he has to at least put up the front of wanting to get help. He only went to therapy in the past because it was court ordered or he'd go to jail after that DUI crash.

I read the filing and if I was incredulous the entire time reading it. I can't understand people who stay in abusive relationships, especially people with the means to not be in one. She wasn't dependent on Shia for her livelihood, she actually had her own place but kept returning back to Shia. Went to counseling with him even though he gave her an STD and instead of telling him to fuck off forever, she aligned himself with his ex in order to convince him to go to therapy? Insane to even care whether he lives or dies after what he reportedly put her through.

It's hard to explain when you're not in the midst of that kind of relationship, but they are so good at manipulation and love bombing, that when all the bad shit starts, it really is confusing and you don't really understand why they've changed so suddenly. You figure you must have done something to cause this, so when they promise to get help you believe them. People like Shia are good at picking people who are vulnerable to such manipulation too.
