How many of you fat whores will be tuning in for this gay-centric holiday rom-com??
I will.
I am sure it (and the Lifetime version) will be the same formulaic crap, but I want it to succeed.

[quote]Andie MacDowell unwraps queer Christmas romance Dashing in December
I can see a religiousy network using “queer” and snickering. Thanks “progressives”!

I'll wait for the sequel: Fisting in February

Cancel EW for using anti-GAY hate speech.

Is Andie MacDowell playing Susan Sontag?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 22, 2020 2:58 PM |
I’d rather die. Hallmark and lifetime movies are scarier than any slasher movie.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 22, 2020 3:37 PM |
Well, this is on neither Hallmark nor Lifetime...
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 22, 2020 3:45 PM |
Peter Porte is very handsome.
Could someone explain this to me?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 22, 2020 3:53 PM |
So Dale Bieberman married the doctor who she went on the cabin retreat with and had a son that's gay. I love it.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 22, 2020 4:00 PM |
Can't say I ever really liked Andie MacDowell in anything but for some reason I'm glad to see she's still getting work. Even if it is in a schlockfest like this.
I'm not sure if I'll watch the film, though. I got tired of seeing way too many bad gay dramas years ago and these days only try to watch ones that are good in one way or another. I don't mind formulaic if it's well made and the trailer didn't exactly convince me yet.
But yes, I'm glad they are making gay romance films like this. I'm sure I'll end up watching them at some point when I need comforting.

Both of those guys are weirdly unattractive. One is extremely plastic looking, and the other is fat with a mullet and butterface.

So happy R14 could chime in during a break from her modeling shoot.

I hope it's better than The Christmas House (Hallmark) and The Happiest Season (Hulu).

Well, after watching The Christmas House and nearly dying because it was so bad - I have low hopes for Dashing in December but will give it a go OP.

Putting on my wrap and cradling my mug in anticipation
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 13, 2020 12:20 AM |
I thought it was cute in the typical predictable Lifetime/Hallmark story mould, complete with the rushed resolution in the last 5 minutes. They’re married in real life, so the onscreen chemistry was great. There was a subplot about a gay couple from the 1920’s and Fran is always a hoot.
I couldn’t finish Christmas House and fell asleep during the Hulu one and haven’t gone back to finish it.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 13, 2020 5:00 AM |
There was a movie like this some years ago but it had an unhappy ending.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 13, 2020 5:06 AM |
R25, i guess you're talking about the Christmas Setup

Gee that's an ass so flat it looks like it was ironed @ R30.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 14, 2020 3:43 AM |
So how was the movie?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 14, 2020 3:52 AM |
I watched maybe 30 minutes of it. The romantic leads were so awful, especially the one playing the city snob. I am not sure if the other actor (the farmhand) was attempting an American accent but he sounded like he had a speech impediment and was just unpleasant to listen to. Andie came off as a seasoned pro compared to these two.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 14, 2020 4:03 AM |
Well R35, I couldn’t get past the obvious ugly wig on the city snob and the ranch hand didn’t just have a potato face, he had a whole sack of potatoes face. The acting was bad, the plot was bad, Andie MacDowell was....Andie MacDowell. It was delightful.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 14, 2020 4:13 AM |
It was shit. I finally turned it off after what felt like 4 hours and there were still 30 minutes left.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 14, 2020 4:30 AM |
I thought it was better than other two (Christmas House and the Fran Dresher one), at least not as sappy.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 14, 2020 4:58 AM |
Was there anything actually “queer” in this? Or was it actually a GAY movie as it appeared to be? Trying to figure out why EW went with the slur when they could’ve just said ‘gay’.
Andie McDowell gets a lifelong pass after sex, lies & videotape.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 14, 2020 5:04 AM |
Overall, I enjoyed it for what it was -- a quickly made movie starring openly gay actors playing gay characters.
It was nothing fantastic. But it wasn't awful either. I enjoyed it. I've seen much worse movies. Very glad the cable networks are trying to do gay themed romances now.
If they'd had a little more time to shoot it, they might have gotten better performances. These movies are typically shot in about 3 weeks. I agree that both actors did not come off well acting wise in the first 20 minutes, especially Peter Porte.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 14, 2020 7:41 PM |
It's a filmed work. There's never time to find the characters. You have to cast right in the first place. Find actors who can be the part, not play the part.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 14, 2020 7:43 PM |
"I agree that both actors did not come off well acting wise in the first 20 minutes, especially Peter Porte."
I guess I should have left it on. I turned to another channel as they sat across from each other at the dinner table taking verbal pot shots at each other.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | December 14, 2020 7:52 PM |
I saw it last night, and it was much better than I was expecting. It's not exactly groundbreaking, and there are plenty of rom-com tropes, but it is sensible and the characters resemble actual human beings
by Anonymous | reply 44 | December 15, 2020 4:13 AM |
Do you think they all died inside when they had to do the insert product placement shot of Philadelphia Cream Cheese?
I certainly did watching it.

I did too R45. It was terrible. Terrible wooden acting.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 20, 2020 12:01 PM |
But how does it compare to MAMBO ITALIANO? That's what we wanna know!
by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 20, 2020 12:06 PM |
Mambo Italiano was masterpiece cinema in comparison R47.

The Lifetime movie, for what it was, was great. This was...not.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | December 20, 2020 12:16 PM |
Surprised this was an MTV production. It seemed even more conservative than the Hallmark and the Lifetime offerings of this month, Christmas House & Christmas Set Up. Still great though and I love Peter Porte and Andie MacDowell

Unlike both of those movies, I assume the two guys in this one are straight. Maybe that's the x-factor.

r54, Peter Porte is gay. He married his boyfriend some time ago.

by Anonymous | reply 60 | December 20, 2020 5:57 PM |
I liked this movie, but the Christmas Set Up was better primarily because the two actors -- Ben Lewis and Blake Lee -- had far more chemistry and charisma.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | December 22, 2020 4:13 AM |
Agreed R61. I looked them up and Lewis and Lee have been married in real life for 8 years so that would account for the more believable chemistry. Plus Fran Drescher is always fun!
by Anonymous | reply 62 | December 22, 2020 5:03 AM |
What Dashing in December did great was selling the Hallmark premise of the Big City Boy falling in love with his childhood home again. And it's not even a Hallmark movie! I know it's silly, but I rather like the movie's location shots. IMO all three gay themed Christmas movies (Christmas House, Christmas Set-Up, Dashing in December) this year were great.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | December 22, 2020 5:15 AM |
Disappointed by the Christmas House, especially the big reveal at the end, it looked all so ticky-tacky — nothing really special, just a bunch of junk from the Hallmark store at the mall.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | December 22, 2020 5:25 AM |
The ratings were lousy. It did only half as well in viewers as the lowest-rated Hallmark Mysteries & Movies Christmas films this year. It did far worse than the Hallmark M&M Christmas movie I was in a few years ago- playing the straight female lead's father!
by Anonymous | reply 65 | December 22, 2020 7:15 AM |
I'm a svelte ho but I ain't gonna watch this PG-13 bland shit.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | December 22, 2020 7:50 AM |
I watched this and The Christmas Setup back-to-back, I would say that overall DID had a better constructed plot, a fag hag that had some agency outside of the male lead, better cinematography and dear lord is juan Pablo di Pace HOTTTTTTT. The Christmas Setup did win in terms of the chemistry between the male leads (not surprising given that they're husbands IRL)
by Anonymous | reply 67 | December 22, 2020 8:32 AM |
I think it shows that gays can be as wholesome as straight characters. There's also a great deal of potential to cover the issues of why gays left their small towns the moment they could and how they can potentially fall in love with their home towns again after some time has passed and both sides have matured.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | December 22, 2020 8:45 AM |
i watched this over the weekend, its a typical hallmark holiday fraumance except for the gay leads.
peter porte has a punchable face made worse by the stylist who hates him. that white turtleneck, gurl, no! pablo di pace looks (and sounds) a bit like luke bryan? he fared a bit better. but the whole city slicker vs. country homeboy frisson was tiresome.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | December 22, 2020 11:46 AM |
I liked it. Especially the caribou undies...
by Anonymous | reply 70 | December 22, 2020 1:22 PM |
Peter Porte's to be commended. He's been in quite a few of those cut-and-paste Hallmark movies, yet still came out several years ago.
