tRump sued Bill Maher in 2013 for saying he is the product of his mother having sex with an orangutan.
These were Bill's parting words last night:
“Let’s be gracious in victory. I just want to say Mr. Trump — if you’re watching — as you do sometimes accidentally, you may have lost the election but there’s one thing that you will always have, and that’s the knowledge that your father never loved you and your mother had sex with an ape.”

It worked.

Andrew Yang gave an interview somewhere (it's been months and it popped up in my recommended vids) where he make some very good points about how we can't expect middle American to code itself or STEM itself back to prosperity and how we cannot expect these people to be able to pick up and move to the coasts for work. He made good points about property values, lower wages, elder care, rental markets etc Leaving politics of those States aside he's the only one I have heard be totally honest about the situation rather than pretend that coding lessons and free community college will somehow conjure jobs in those areas or set these folks up to move to SF with the capital to start out there. So yes I believe he is a useful voice for our party and worth listening to but not a good candidate for the presidency.

Enjoy today, be happy and celebrate. Tomorrow go back to remembering we still have a fight as important as getting Trump out of office to go through. We have to get the two Senate candidates from Georgia elected and get the Senate in the hands of Democrats. There will be a runoff on January 5th and if the Republicans keep the Senate we can forget about anything getting better for the most part. Lindsay Graham is currently trying to help Trump prove he won and Biden didn't and Moscow Mitch has vowed to not allow Biden to get anything done or even to pick cabinet members he wants. If Biden doesn't pick the most Conservative Blue Dog "Democrats" to his cabinet McConnell will never let them pass.
If you live in GA vote on January 5th for Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock. Your vote on that day is as important as your vote for Biden. Get your friends, neighbors and family to vote for these two Democrats in the Senate runoff. If you live in GA or don't please donate to their campaign as much as you can, a dollar or two if that is all you can afford. Volunteer with their campaigns to make phone calls or in any way you can help.
We won a very big battle. We did not win the war yet. As long as McConnell and the Republicans rule the Senate we are in big trouble. Biden will spend 4 years being a lame duck, as Obama was the last 6 years of his presidency. Think about it. The only thing Obama was ever able to get done was the ACA because he got that done when both the Congress and Senate were in the hands of Democrats and many of them not Progressive which is why so much about the ACA sucked and there was no public option.
January 5, 2021 remember that date! It's as important as November 3rd was.

Celebrations tonight in London and Paris. The mayor of Paris tweeted, "Welcome back, America!"
by Anonymous | reply 271 | November 8, 2020 12:03 AM |
On Saturday morning, shortly before the AP and other news outlets called the election for Joe Biden, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to announce that his lawyers would be holding a “big press conference” in Philadelphia. But there seems to have been some major confusion about where it would be held. First Trump tweeted it would take place at the “Four Seasons, Philadelphia.” Trump later corrected himself and said that the news conference was going to be held at the Four Seasons Total Landscaping. And the Four Seasons Hotel sent out its own tweet, making sure everyone knew that the news conference would not be held there but rather at the landscaping business that has “no relation with the hotel.” When journalists arrived at the site of the news conference, they were flabbergasted by the scene and many quickly speculated that someone in the Trump campaign made a serious mistake. After all, the parking lot of a landscaping business in the outskirts of the city in an industrial part of town was a drab backdrop for a news conference by a president who wanted to convince Americans he still had a chance of winning. And making matters even stranger, the landscaping business was between an adult bookstore and a cremation center. The location led to lots of mockery online, and many people were very happy with the scene that was ripe for mockery, and some saw as a poignant metaphor of the failure of the Trump campaign.

I’m surprised that the Trump press conference didn’t take place on a golf course, isn’t that his preferred landscaping?
by Anonymous | reply 291 | November 8, 2020 12:19 AM |
I never toot my own horn but all my life I have just known stuff that was going to happen. I predicted Trump would be impeached before he was even sworn in. Somewhere in the archives here when Biden had lost the primaries and Bernie was on top, I called Biden AND Harris when he was thought be out. I wish I had saved the page but it was just another day for me. Today I got the texts from friends who said I was right all along. But then I predicted Madonna would be Evita twelve years before the movie was made.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | November 8, 2020 12:19 AM |
R274, I know exactly how you feel. My dad died during the Obama administration. He was really involved in politics his whole life and followed the news daily.
The day Trump was elected, I even said to someone, thank God he didn’t live to see this. It would have made him extremely anxious and frightened. And everything after that would have made his life just constant misery. There were a lot of veterans in the family that fought fascism in WWII. It would have killed him to see Americans supporting fascism. He wouldn’t have believed it.
by Anonymous | reply 293 | November 8, 2020 12:20 AM |
R293, Did you predict the Stevie Nicks/Miley Cyrus duet, too???

Jake Tapper must be gay, he made an allusion to Trump not winning an ice skating competition and being angry and a sore loser. Only a gay may would choose ice skating over an actual sport to explain his metaphor.
by Anonymous | reply 296 | November 8, 2020 12:21 AM |
Its too bad we can't impeach Orange again before his term is even up.
by Anonymous | reply 297 | November 8, 2020 12:22 AM |

R296 there was deliberate shade in the ice skating reference.

R311, it’s the color women suffragettes wore when they marched to get the vote for women. It’s become a tradition for women who get new offices to wear white to honor suffragettes, because they wouldn’t be there without them.
It’s a tribute to the journey women have taken to achieve this.

Interesting article from Politico, this will be a very interesting sign as to how the civil service is going to respond to Trump's bullshit.
[quote]You likely have never heard of Emily Murphy. She’d actually prefer to keep it that way. But the low-key civil servant has sole authority over whether or not Joe Biden’s transition can officially move forward, pushing her center stage in the presidential contest.
[quote]Murphy, the administrator of the General Services Administration (GSA), must make an “ascertainment” that Biden has won the presidency before the transition can contact federal agencies or access the millions of dollars set aside for the team. While the Associated Press and POLITICO have determined that Biden has won the election, President Donald Trump has not conceded and recounts are ongoing. “The simple fact is this election is far from over,” Trump said in a statement Saturday. “Legal votes decide who is president, not the news media.” This has put Murphy in an awkward position.
[quote]As a rule, the GSA avoids any hint of partisanship. Even as the media declared Biden the winner on Saturday, the GSA was reluctant to immediately follow, saying in a statement that “an ascertainment has not yet been made. GSA and its Administrator will continue to abide by, and fulfill, all requirements under the law.” Every passing day, however, also stalls what was already a historically difficult transition. Making matters even more complicated, the law on the subject is vague and leaves it up to Murphy to determine when Biden is officially president-elect.
The transition is going to show the great importance of having an establishment candidate like Biden. No inexperienced staffers here. He's going to have the best of the best, and that's going to be so vital with Trump likely doing his best to derail an orderly transition.

I did say he's be fantastic as a chief of staff in some ways but not in others (no connections in DC) so he'd never get that job. Klain is a good guess.
Pete is headed for Secretary of the VA with liberal appearances on the Sunday shows.

It finally hit when Kamala and Joe gave their speeches - we are free. The era of decency and tolerance/respect we had with Obama is back. I cried. Not as much as I did with Obama - but I realized how utterly drained I’ve been by the last 4 years and how it’s affected my whole outlook on life and the world. The flood of emotion that came with the realization was unexpected. It’s just feels like I’ve been let out of a dark prison into the sunlight. And there is hope and optimism.

[quote]Just let people like Michael Moore put a fire under Liberals' asses like he did with his predictions about this election.
Huh? In what Bizarro world did that happen? In his desperate efforts to smear and destroy the Democratic party and remain relevant, addled Berner (anarchist) Michael Moore has continued to shit all over Dems and tout purist fantasies that only the unelectable Bernie Sander would even listen to. Moore is another Trump-like narcissist who pretends to play for our team, but is just another fat, white multi-millionaire living in a mansion telling the rest of us how everything should be.
He'll be giving out instructions, warnings, and side eye for Joe and Kamala before Monday, bet on it.

[quote]I mean - the wife of the WorldWide Wrestling Federation, Linda McMahon, was in charge of the Small Bus Administration?
Yes, and believe it or not she is widely seen as having done a perfectly fine, non-partisan and professional job there, almost the only Trump appointee who has turned out to be competent in their job. Who knew?
