I am just catching up on Schitt’s Creek and watched this episode from season 4 last night. I have never been more embarrassed for an actor, his co-star, the film crew, and anyone watching this.

They mean well. The boy sitting down is cute.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 6, 2020 6:17 PM |
That embarrassed you? You embarrass me.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 6, 2020 6:18 PM |
Yeah, it was cringey but I remember reading that people absolutely adored that scene so what do I know?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 6, 2020 6:20 PM |
LMAO
I had been watching and thoroughly enjoying Schitt's Creek until that scene. I then started hate-watching the rest of season 4, and gave up on the penultimate episode. I hope to re-visit the show, but the Patrick storyline is just plain absurd. He's not cute, not interesting, and he ruined the show's dynamic. Butchering "Simply the Best" just cemented his annoyingness.

So glad I'm not a bitter single old queen. Must be sad. I can't imagine being that bitter. I'm gonna go blow my Latino husband's big 9 inches for ya.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 6, 2020 6:45 PM |
Why did that David guy dressed so horribly? And gays supposed to have good style
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 6, 2020 6:48 PM |
I know you specified TV, but pretty hard to be Emilio Estevez's weed-induced, manic dance in Breakfast Club.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 6, 2020 6:53 PM |
R6 I’m not OP but pointing out how corny and cringey that scene is makes one bitter/single/old how exactly?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 6, 2020 6:54 PM |
What R3 said.
This was a great scene especially when taken in the context of the story.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 6, 2020 6:54 PM |
I like that scene but I think Dan was not directed in the right way. His little smile is totally wrong. I would have directed him to freeze in his tracks--like this is the first time anyone has ever shown you love, and it's an arrow to the heart. To set up that David had a major life shift and a major decision to make--having to confront his self-hate and so forth.
I love the first three seasons of Schitt's Creek and then it jumps the shark for me, gets too sentimental. I love the edge of the first three seasons so much.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 6, 2020 7:01 PM |
I thought Trump's 2-minute deceitful speech last night before it got cut off was the most embarrasing thing on TV ever.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 6, 2020 7:05 PM |
R11 raises a good point. In the hands of a more gifted actor, that could've been the exact moment David sees Patrick in a different light...as different from his previous lovers...as the one. Instead he did that weird little smile, which was actually not very characteristic of David.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 6, 2020 7:05 PM |
I think it's supposed to be cringey and embarrassing, that David wants his bf back so much that he's willing to sacrifice his dignity.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 6, 2020 7:06 PM |
The mother and daughter on that show were hilarious. David was so bad. And that hideously stupid Chris Elliott was just god awful.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 6, 2020 7:27 PM |
Eugene Levy's comedic genes apparently skipped a generation over Dan. Sad.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 6, 2020 7:41 PM |
Is that supposed to be their home? It looks like it was filmed at a Restoration Hardware store.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 6, 2020 7:43 PM |
R16, I like Eugene Levy, but I actually think he's the least funny or interesting character on the show. Well, after Roland, that is.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 6, 2020 7:43 PM |
Could not agree more. Absolutely the worst scene of the entire series. Cringing.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 6, 2020 7:45 PM |
R6 Ew to your fetishisation of your husband's race
R11 I doubt there was much directing of Dan going on at all.

"embarrassed"?
Mary OP, get the fuck over yourself.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 6, 2020 7:54 PM |
Tina Turner is rolling in her grave!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 6, 2020 7:57 PM |
R11, R13, this scene had already happened prior to David’s lip syncing.
It’s evident David is surprised and feels awkward by Patrick’s gesture especially in a room full of people. Moira’s loving touch was something he was not used to either.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 6, 2020 7:58 PM |
R22, hopefully Tina hasn't been buried alive quite yet.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 6, 2020 8:00 PM |
Both actors said in an interview they were nervous about doing the scene because it was going to feel so awkward. But they drank a bottle of Prosecco right before and did it in one take.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 6, 2020 8:02 PM |
This is one of the most beautiful scenes about love I've ever seen on TV. I makes me cry with joy.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 6, 2020 8:41 PM |
Tina may not be rolling in her grave, but she's always rolling on the river.

What's so cringey about the scene? Is one of them retarded or something?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 6, 2020 10:50 PM |
I don't know why this show triggers some people so much. It's harmless fun, IMO. I can think of 50 comedies that are worse.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 6, 2020 10:53 PM |
No, it’s not their home. It’s a shop the two characters run together. The shop is supposed to be a Restoration Hardware type shop.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 6, 2020 10:54 PM |
R36 I think it's because it's just recently become over-praised; like sweeping the Emmys - the show definitely deserved to win some, but not that many, nor for that last season.

There was a LOT of Schitts Creek that was just bad. Some good scenes but overall I thought it was way overhyped. This lasted forever but we can’t get another season of The Comeback?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 7, 2020 12:08 AM |
How does Chris Elliott have a career?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 7, 2020 12:14 AM |
Dan Levy plays the part in such an arch way his attempts at sincerity fall totally flat.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 7, 2020 10:59 AM |
OP's reaction shows Levy's strength of choices as a direction. Tight lipping on the sync. The "straight-man" reaction of the guy in the chair who actually speaks is a good mix. And Levy does NOT make the editor's job tough. Long sequences. This scene has more strengths than weaknesses.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 7, 2020 11:05 AM |
It's like in real life when your mom or dad suddenly break out in a dance, and they're the only ones doing so. It can skew awkward. And the song, at least coming out of my imac, sounded tinny. Plus it has that 80s beat that sounds dated now.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 7, 2020 12:51 PM |
What a bullshit thread this is. The series is hilarious and Dan Levy, who has signed a multi-million-dollar contract for another series and recently won 3 Emmys, is doing just fine, you stupid cunts.

by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 7, 2020 1:32 PM |
Dan Levy is such a terrible actor. He may be a funny writer / good producer, but his acting was just dreadful. I seriously had to fast-forward his parts many times. The show, overall, was really good, and I'm sure he had a huge hand in that. But, hopefully most of his future will be off camera.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 7, 2020 1:35 PM |
He actually provided many funny line readings, of lines he mostly wrote.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 7, 2020 1:38 PM |
I found the show to be mildly entertaining but not worthy of the adoration that it seems to inspire. I did love the quality of male tail that was available to David and his sister. I love Canadian men and there were some nice ones running around town through out the show.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 7, 2020 1:44 PM |
I think the show is very funny and O'Hara is a comic genius. It got me through many a Dumpster fire.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 7, 2020 1:48 PM |
We get all these boring threads endlessly criticizing the show but no dirt from anyone who has actually fucked dan levy. That’s what I don’t understand. Are there no Toronto gays here? Is he celibate?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 7, 2020 1:54 PM |
Agreed, R53.
Especially for calling out shit threads like this. And who's fucked Dan Levy? And what's his body like underneath those sweaters?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 7, 2020 1:59 PM |
I think the show had more good/great moments than bad. I skipped any scenes with Chris Elliott. I think Dan and the rest of the cast were great. That scene is cringy and unwatchable. Dan himself hasn't been able to watch it. I'm surprised it made it into the show.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 7, 2020 2:02 PM |
The scene is fine.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | November 7, 2020 2:02 PM |

A scene so "terrible" OP goes to the trouble of providing a link, and all you Marys weigh in on it.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | November 7, 2020 2:04 PM |
R58 wouldn't be much of a discussion board if no one weighed in, would it?
A post with no replies ... doesn't sound interesting.

Well R58 luckily we have you posting about 10 of the replies here, so that helps

by Anonymous | reply 61 | November 7, 2020 2:07 PM |
Context is everything. The emotionally conflicted and shut-down David already was sung to, and this "embarrassment" was his signal that he got it and embraced intimacy.
R59 is the usual "I'm always right" idiot who loves nothing in life more than the scent of her own farts.
Breathe deeply, Lady Cabbage.

by Anonymous | reply 63 | November 7, 2020 2:08 PM |
This scene ruined the whole series for me. It became a different show after this mush, a meandering, cheesy mess devoid of laughs.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 7, 2020 2:13 PM |
R62 bless your heart so easily triggered.
The series overall was hilarious. David was an annoying character, and that scene was a low point.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | November 7, 2020 2:15 PM |
I thought the three uses of this song on the show were all great, and each one was distinctive. The first one (Patrick serenading David) made me cry because it was so sweet. I know...MARY!
by Anonymous | reply 66 | November 7, 2020 2:25 PM |
It's Canadian. What do you expect?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 7, 2020 2:29 PM |
The entire series was ruined for you because of this one scene? You're ridiculous, R64.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | November 7, 2020 2:31 PM |
I loved when Patrick sang his version of the song at the open mike but I thought it was such a ripoff for David to lip synch the same song back to him. Still I think David/Daniel is adorable and so talented.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | November 7, 2020 2:34 PM |
Chris Elliott is the white Twacy Mo'gan.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | November 7, 2020 2:38 PM |
I would add, whether or not you love, like, dislike, or hate this scene, it is very far from the most excruciating two minutes in the histiry of TV, Mary OP.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 7, 2020 2:40 PM |
The scene was perfect and helped bring the story line together beautifully. I really loved the way the song was understated and mellow. Lovely.
Romance can be sweet and sentimental, that’s reality.

by Anonymous | reply 73 | November 7, 2020 2:52 PM |
I never watched the show. I know who the cast are, I know Dan Levy plays a gay character.
I guess your reaction must be based on the context of the scene, or the series, because taken out of context it's not excruciating or embarrassing. I feel like you wasted my time making me click on that.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | November 7, 2020 3:02 PM |
It feels like the Ludovico Technique aversion therapy from The Clockwork Orange
by Anonymous | reply 75 | November 7, 2020 3:06 PM |

The worst thing about that clip is that the person who video recorded their TV screen has their phone camera set at a ghastly high frame rate, so it looks totally unnatural. Like 60fps.

I couldn't make it through the first 10 minutes of this show. I don't know what people see in it. I don't even want to watch the clip at OP.
But you boys have fun!
by Anonymous | reply 85 | November 10, 2020 1:59 PM |
R36 it triggers people for the following reasons:
1) it’s only amusing and it just won 9 emmys. It was undeserving of all of that noise. It’s this generation’s Everybody loves Raymond.
2) the only really funny people are Moira Rose and the daughter
3) Dan Levy an asshole-human hybrid. He was handed a career, took all the credit and everyone is acting like the success of SC had nothing to do with one of the funniest women in the world playing his mother.
That’s why.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | November 10, 2020 2:03 PM |
Roland is foul, how could he possibly be Mutt's father?
I still cringe when he shat in their bathroom and broke the window lock.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | November 10, 2020 2:14 PM |
I thought the scene was cringeworthy too because we hadn’t seen anything like that from David before and it was supposed to be sincere, I guess. When Patrick first came involved with David I thought Dan Levy was a little handsy with the actor, hanging off him and kissing him I found a little cringe inducing as well.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | November 10, 2020 2:26 PM |
Sadly, the undeserved Emmy sweep killed my enjoyment of the show (it only deserved wins for Comedy Series, Actress and Supporting Actress at the most).
by Anonymous | reply 89 | November 10, 2020 2:32 PM |
I don’t watch the show but just looked at a minute of the scene out of curiosity. Awful, pandering faux-gay buffoonery. You people must be desperate for laughs. Surely there are better options than this show.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | November 10, 2020 2:35 PM |
This scene ruined America!
by Anonymous | reply 91 | November 10, 2020 2:47 PM |
Ok has anyone every heard of the concepts "preferences," "opinions," and "personal taste"? I cannot wrap my head around the notion that so many of you ascribe to, which is if YOU don't like something, then other people are insane if they like it. You don't want homophobes thinking no one should be gay because they personally can't understand same-sex attraction, but you'll be a Taste Nazi any day of the week.
Well, dearies, I thought that Dan Levy was amazing as David. I think he's a smart, hot, and talented entertainer. The nepotism charge simply doesn't stick; the world at large disagrees with you naysayers. Yes! his character is an annoying Nellie -- it's part of the character arc. It's all spelled out in the fantastic writing why David is the way he is, and how scary it is for him to let down his guard. So yes, anything lovey dovey coming from David is gonna make you squirm like hell. On purpose.
And Girls, Chris Elliot did an AMAZING job as Roland Schitt. I hear people who otherwise stan the show complain about this character. But they nailed it when they cast Chris Eliot. Roland is supposed to be weird and gross, and Elliot kills it. He made the Roses even that much more horrified and desperate to escape.
I appreciated the surprise of the show's hefty arc. It was so much more profound than I expected it to be. I loved how John, Moira, Alexa and David each get exactly what they need for their personal growth -- and only then are they released from the purgatory that has been their stay in Schitt's Creek. It's almost like one of those benevolent, comical old Twilight Zones where they learn a valuable lesson but it's heartfelt rather than creepy.
And finally, I want to point out that this modern era is really a low point in quality programming. For a little show this quaint to emerge out of the Canadian mist, and be so uncompromisingly quirky, sweet, funny, sex-positive, gay-friendly and weird...and make it in the States in this day and age of hardened cynicism and greed, well....FUCK. They did something pretty major there. They deserved every damn Emmy they won.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | November 10, 2020 2:49 PM |
I've been in therapy recently.
Now that I've learned to accept my own feelings, I don't find the scene as cringey as I would have.

The fraus refused to believe it. Were up in arms. Then someone from CBC commented that she also found him he incredibly difficult and quite rude to deal with and the fraus went nuts on her too.

R99 listen time any interview of dan levy discussing the show and he talks about how he actually considers it a drama with comedic elements about the power of love and how money can’t buy happiness. He definitely doesn’t consider it a stupid comedy. He is clear he’s no comedian and wants his next projects to be dramas. He’s also interested musicals and animated stuff.
I love the show and think he’s hot but yeah.... he doesn’t consider it low brow.

OP's scene can only be understood in the context of r23, which pound for pound remains one of the best homosexualist love scenes ever to be filmed for a third-tier Canadian cable network in the 2010s.

I loved the scene and I loved the show. However, my two favorite moments were David & Patrick taking the hike for the proposal and Stevie (love her!) singing "Maybe This Time".
by Anonymous | reply 115 | November 11, 2020 4:19 AM |
Love this show for many reasons, including the normalising of the 30-something gay relationship that it portrays. If I was a young teen gayling in a small town I would be inspired by the acceptance and hope it portrays.

Noah Reid (who plays Patrick) is very boy-next-door cute - much more so that the more obvious rent-a-hunk trio of Mutt/Jake/Ted, IMHO...and what's with the perma-stubble sported by virtually all the male characters, aside from Patrick? What is this, 1985?

R120 He plays it for laughs though, it's not supposed to be 'good' or 'sexy', it's intended to be a lip-sync where he's trying to channel his inner Tina

I was just thinking about this the other day, I hate lip-synching, and to lip-synch in reaction to someone standing up and REALLY singing, and touchingly so, is positively ridiculous. I agree with OP one hundred percent. daniel levin is a turd for doing this

We finally watched it and the entire series is cringeworthy and stupid. I LOVE Catherine Hahn and the girl who played the sister/daughter in the show. And the Stevie character. But between the constant mugging and winking toward the camera by Eugene Levy‘s son and Eugene Levy‘s hijacking of the series where he spends nearly every episode screaming, it was just unbearable. Remove the two male leads and it would’ve been such a pleasant show.

by Anonymous | reply 140 | November 13, 2020 11:12 AM |
Looking through the replies, I feel like most don’t get this scene, or the entire show, because you are more mature gentlemen. Or, maybe it’s because some of you have emotional issues, and don’t get the concept of being vulnerable. I hear that you can purchase Will and Grace on DVD, you would probably be able to handle that better.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | November 13, 2020 11:27 AM |
R141 We get the show, you fucking turd. In the previous epi Patrick did a sweet rendition of The Best and he was being vulnerable about Patrick, loving the right man for the first time. Then the next epi Dan thought he could lip synch to Tina's version and it would have the exact same sentiment? Not in a million years. It was cringe the whole time and having someone so ugly and gross lip synching to Patrick! Fucking disgusting. Every straight man's foreskin fell off at the revolting thought.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | November 13, 2020 12:44 PM |
Isn’t Chris Elliott 25 years older than Dan? Why was he in Hebrew school at such an advanced age?
by Anonymous | reply 143 | November 13, 2020 12:49 PM |
I don't know how anyone could have watched over 3 seasons of the show and not realized this scene was SUPPOSED to be cringey.
David came from a millionaire jet-set lifestyle and had fabulous jobs and a variety of lovers, all presumed fabulous as well, and now this kinda doughy Canadian guy was being a goofball to him, and it was real, and he didn't quite know how to take it.
I get that the show had moved past their former life by this time so a lot of people may have missed the intent, and I also think the scene was perhaps a little beyond the reach of the actors involved. I also understand not wanting to watch it because the cringe -- especially when Chris Elliott was involved -- is why I stopped watchin Schitt's Creek altogether, but I don't understand not realizing that it was intentional.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | November 13, 2020 12:52 PM |
I skipped it, I hate lip-synching
by Anonymous | reply 145 | November 13, 2020 12:55 PM |
R144 Unless you are Dan Levy himself, you have no clue what the intent was. The first three seasons without Patrick were the shows best episodes. When Dan brought along this boring white bread loser to be his husband, the show fell apart and became unwatchable. The first three seasons were more ensemble. Then after Patrick came aboard it was all about ugly, repulsive Dan. He is not interesting enough to focus on. His sister was a million times more interesting than ugly Dan and a million times better actress. Dan Levy and Noah Reid are both wooden, very poor actors who could not emote to save their lives. The girls who played Alexis and Stevie were a million times better than Levy and Reid. A show exclusively about them without ugly Dan would be gold.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | November 13, 2020 1:00 PM |
r92, I really like your comments about the show, but I feel like after season one we just don't ever see the Roses react to Roland in a way that makes it look like they want to escape. Maybe I stopped watching the show before some of the scenes you're referring to happened, though, but I remember a slew of episodes where Roland would be weird about Johnny borrowing something from him, or Roland living at the hotel because he was bothering his pregnant wife, and everyone just accepting it and even trying to help him, not wanting to run away.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | November 13, 2020 1:00 PM |
I never watched another second of this “shitt” show after the scene in OPs post. And Dan Levy will never be seen on camera in any future projects.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | November 13, 2020 1:03 PM |
R147 Well it's not like they spent the entire six seasons actively jumping out of their skin every time Roland appears. They got used to him to some degree. They are still grossed out by him though. They definitely always seemed put upon when he would have to be engaged. Although I guess eventually that changes when starts Johnny is running the hotel with Roland and Stevie.
Roland provides that tension between the Roses (cultured city folk) and the Schitts (uncultured small town rednecks) that never lets you forget that the Roses are the odd ones out in this town, not the Schitts. That the destiny of the Rose family is never going to be "integration."
(I know that David stays with Patrick when the rest of the roses finally leave. But I don't see that as David assimilating, so much as him modifying his surroundings so that the town starts to reflect him more like with the Apothecary, his gay relationship, that cottage they decide to buy, etc.

Popularity breeds contempt. If his face wasn't so punchable and hateable, people would find it absurd to attack Daniel Levin lol. But clearly there is a lot to hate about him. I find it hilarious. Keep it up, girls. He isn't a great writer. As I watched every episode, I noticed every episode credited to him had no laughs or managed a single laugh.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | November 13, 2020 4:28 PM |
Loved the show but found it a tad egomaniacal that the final season focused entirely on David’s wedding and fucked Annie Murphy out of any good scenes except that one breakup scene with Ted - which won her an Emmy. The character and Annie as an actress deserved better. Her storyline became reacting to David as bridezilla and going on some rebound date with an old man. I can’t even remember what stevie’s storyline was - working in the motel business? After she had that great storyline season 5 with cabaret?
I wonder if the other writers thought it was idiotic but couldn’t deter Dan from making that choice. In the end, it’s his show and his decision, but found season 6 underwhelming except for the final episode.

I get that the Canadian Schitt's Creek troll is really proud of this little broadcast cash cow. I really do. It isn't every day that a Canadian program scores attention in the states. But our sweet SC troll tends to start these threads just so it can shill for Dan Levy and the show itself, knowing that not everyone connected with it.
Looking at the buzz over it on Twitter and Facebook, it's clear it was/is mostly popular with straight women, likely early 30s to early 50s, the types that live on social media and still follow blogs. For whatever reason, it just isn't so big with a lot of us gays. Maybe because Levy's mugging at the camera was just too exhausting, a little too campy. A little too much winking at the camera. It doesn't help that at least a couple of people on DL have claimed to have worked with or been around him in the past and that his unguarded personality is not so friendly. Seeing Eugene Levy in interviews, as much as I like him, he really does seem to think he's a STAR! instead of merely the character actor he is. He has a certain air about him that suggests he takes himself a little seriously. Most celebrities do I suppose. And that comes across in his kid.
The show itself was not nearly as cute or hysterically funny as the OP/Schitt's Creek troll makes it out to be. And Eugene Levy DID, in fact yell through the entire series. More like a very loud whine, when he wasn't shrieking in faux outrage over something.
It's also clear that the Levy's realized how beloved the three female leads were quickly becoming, and you can almost tell the minute they shifted the focus away from them or the group as an ensemble. There were still scenes and vignettes which focused on the female leads; all incredibly likeable and great actresses. But it's also obvious when the writers began making the two Levys the central characters. It wasn't as much of an ensemble cast as it presents itself as. This show became and was primarily about Dan Levy camping it up on camera, playing a "sassy" queen, and his dad playing a slightly more serious role.. I think it happened at the start of season III. If you've seen the series, you know that there wasn't one episode that did not feature one of the two Levys. Not just giving them the majority of the lines, but highlighting their characters, even when the episode's focus was supposedly another character.
And the Levy daughter/sister.... That poor woman really got a raw deal. Imagine being the immediate family of the creators/producers and stars, and never getting even half an episode which focuses on your background story. The fact they had her there more out of chore than desire was apparent in the writing and in the camera.

R159 You made many good points I agreed with. For me the series was always about the women. For my top 5 or 6, all of them are female. I really cared nothing for the males except for some of the hot man candy like Mutt and Jake. Their bodies were perfect, their characters meh. Alexis was the strongest actor and my favorite character. Her stories were hilarious. Her mannerisms and sayings - so Alexis. If only ugly Dan and his dad were killed in the first episode and it became all about the women. Then the show would have had more life than just three seasons. Stevie was my second - not much to her character but great actor and delivery. Jocelyn would be my third fave - she was extremely sweet and smart - amazing she could stay married to such an unlikeable dweeb as the Roland character. Four would be Moira - but her screaming every single episode was as tiring as Dan's mugging. I don't know who five would be but they would be female. Thanks for pointing out that it is hetero fraus who are the only ones obsessed with the show. Gay men could never be enamored with an awful "actor" like Dan, plus he is not attractive at all.

I also wonder what’s under all those sweaters, I would’ve totally chased a guy like Dan in a club in the 90’s, God knows they were a dime a dozen in Boston. Some of them threw a mean fuck.

R162 I agree with you. Way too much analysis. Either you could stomach the scene and move on, or you couldn't. But it's just a show. How many faux pas did our beloved Golden Girls make in its 7 season run?
And yes, R162, the traumatized egoistes with weird fashion sense were throwing MEAN fucks in the 80s/90s. ALWAYS entertaining, always hilarious and exuding confidence and 'tude...but secretly so fragile and insecure. They best thing about those cuties? They would NEVER think about you the next day after a night together. Because they were wither 1. too up their own asses/unstable/on to the next crisis, or 2. way, way too high and drunk the night before to remember the specifics, let alone your address (or name) lol. So yeah, Dan Levin type would have been a LOT of fun on a Saturday night, tripping balls on E, raving to Primal Scream and then hours of delirious sex with lots of smoke and coke breaks.

The suggestion that the show is only enjoyed by straight women is ludicrous. Seasons 5 and 6 both hold a 100% rating from critics reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and the clean sweep at the Emmy's was as much in recognition of the show as a whole rather than one particular season (with some catching up do, given that it only had extensive distribution and a wide audience after Netflix got on board in 2018/9.)
Also, this, remember is a comedy show. You can find it funny or not but it's entirely unclear what relevance Dan Levy's physical attractiveness has to that? Can anyone really be so vacuous as to only enjoy a show if they want to fuck the cast? Is that what makes Curb Your Enthusiasm funny...or the Simpsons, for that matter?

Found this comment on Reddit. Everyone else has noticed SC sucked after season 3. Like Dan writing that his sister (on the show) Twyla was always a millionaire. Fucking awful writing. Like she'd stay in a shit town if she was.
This show started brilliantly, but lost all of it's bite half way through.
I started Schitt's creek with an open mind and was massively surprised on how great it's initial, small town fish out of water comedy was.
But from about season 3 onwards, it became a cavalcade of supermodels getting in relationships with everyone else, wildly successful careers appearing out of thin air for every character , no fish out of water conflict at all with the characters and their setting (it pretty much ceases to be a small town).
It's really just Dan Levy wish fulfillment and characters doing their schtick in various scenarios that have little to nothing to do with small town life.

R209 Not everything. I have the Friends 10 season blu ray set but I gave away the first two discs that had seasons 1-4. I hated the first four seasons. I never laughed once in those seasons. Season 5 was still bad because it had that awful British cunt Emily. Fuck, did I hate that cunt. But it was only season 5 where Friends got funny. Then seasons 6-10 were its peak. Three's Company, too. I never cared for Suzanne Somers. Gay men cared nothing for her tits and so-called jiggle TV. She just never gelled with me. Season 5 with Cindy was my fave season. Then seasons 6-8 were consistently funny with Ritter's physical comedy front and center.

I think there's some merit to the idea that the women's storylines didn't get the attention they deserved. It was pretty standard stuff: getting pregnant, getting the job you lost back, and succeeding at the business you've been running through the run of the show. Normal everyday sitcom stuff.
That said, it seemed like the point of SC was to have the David storyline also be treated as normal everyday sitcom stuff, and that in itself was somewhat revolutionary. And it was at first, but then it became overdone and took over the whole show and they lost the plot.

Dan Levy has said that in interviews. That he wanted to normalize the homos and have no homophobia. But he failed in the end because he put his unattractive boring self front and center for the last 3 years. As others have said, both he and the Patrick dude have the least acting ability/charisma to carry a show. Alexis, Stevie, Jocelyn, and Moira were superior actresses and were totally wasted, especially Alexis. She had nothing to show for her growth in the last episode. And the SL with Ted went nowhere, ultimately signifying nothing.

Isn’t this just like us to pick apart an uber successful show with too many industry awards to count and a syndication deal. But yes, Dan Levy is an intolerable cunt.

And yet not one Canadian ‘ho on this entire site has had the hairy Mary ass of dan levy IRL.
That’s the great takeaway of all of this if you ask me.

Hairy Mary ass of Dan Levy! Love it. Game of Thrones was also super successful and look how they fucked it up in the last season because they had no books to steal from. I never watched an episode of that but the media would not shut up about it.

Seriously: can someone explain that weird outfit he’s wearing?!?
by Anonymous | reply 219 | November 18, 2020 2:21 AM |
Can anybody explain most of the shit he wore on the show?

Dan should stick to writing. Even though there are problems with SC, he showed talent. For a first timer, bravo!
by Anonymous | reply 221 | November 18, 2020 3:54 AM |
Maybe he has body image issues, given that almost every outfit consisted of an oversized black sweatshirt.

The Chevy Chase Show is worse than this. But, yeah, brutal.

"Dan Levin is better than him at least"
I'll say..

Puke! He is on the list of sexiest men alive this year. I could not post the link.

I knew a guy like Dan that dressed in couture all the time or pretty close- it was sort of a statement and though it seemed queeny, he had lots of admirers!
The issue with Dan is that dressing in Dior or Gucci wouldn’t really “pop” like the ridiculous outfits he wears on the show.
He’s like the gay man version of a on AbFab.

I couldn’t watch past the first 15 seconds in that clip.
by Anonymous | reply 231 | November 18, 2020 5:44 PM |
R230 maybe he needs to be the 21st century a?
by Anonymous | reply 232 | November 18, 2020 6:09 PM |
He’s doing ads for Canada’s version of Verizon like a madman
by Anonymous | reply 233 | November 18, 2020 7:45 PM |
R230 / R232 David Rose is clearly inspired by Edina (just as Moira is inspired by Patsy) and, just like in Ab Fab, the clothes are often used for comic effect where they have been chosen for their incongruity. Dan Levy spoke in an interview about how he wanted to find the most inappropriate outfit for David when he stays with the Amish family, for instance, going with the Helmut Lang mohawk hooded sweater.

This seems to be a show in which the frenetic delivery is what’s supposed to be funny. It isn’t. There are no good comedies anymore because social norms have collapsed. What are we supposed to be laughing at in the clip? Certainly not two flaming homosexuals: Now it’s just jackasses making funny faces and funny noises while saying naughty words with scatological overtones. The can only manage grotesque.

R235 What the actual fuck? Not one thing you said is true. There is no "frenetic" delivery. It is a standard single camera sitcom with no jump cuts and camera going everywhere for seconds at a time. Social norms have not collapsed. They are pushing a pretty clear agenda. OP's clip is not "supposed to be funny". It is a gross attempt at Dan Levy trying to woo Patrick back after he dumped him. It is supposed to be sexy/seductive and it is not. Patrick is in no way a "flaming homosexual". He is a boring cliched white bread character with zero personality. He is Dan Levy's wish fulfillment of having a white bread husband. Nobody on the show makes funny faces or noises. They are actors acting out a script. And I have never seen a scat reference in SC, ever. "The can only manage grotesque". I have no fucking idea what that means.

[R237] So this is a seduction scene? One man is trying to "win back" the other? That's how you see it? This is how two men in a relationship relate to each other? You're deluded. You sound like one of the show's shitty writers. OP isolated the scene because it is indeed painful - both the material and the performances. The body language doesn't agree with what you claim the scene's intent is. Dan Levy is not playing off the reactions of the guy in the chair - it's not an conversation. The sitting actor has an impossible job and the blocking makes it worse. It's particularly painful that he's been told to smile and react as if it's all very amusing when it's not. Dan Levy doesn't even appear to be playing a character here. It's just amateurish, buffoonish, "look at me" shenanigans that wouldn't rate a second look on TikTok. He's awful.
by Anonymous | reply 238 | November 19, 2020 9:10 PM |
R238 I wasn't defending what the guy said but obviously it's supposed to be sexy/seductive. They just broke up and Levy stole the song Patrick sang to him and made a mockery of the whole original intent. I would never defend Dan Levy but I have watched the whole series and know what the fuck I am talking about. And for all you stupid fucks saying it was meant to be cringey, you're fucking brain dead.
by Anonymous | reply 239 | November 19, 2020 9:20 PM |
The show is fun. And while that scene isn’t one of my favorites there are a lot of really funny bits.
by Anonymous | reply 240 | November 19, 2020 9:27 PM |
Yeah and none of them have anything to do with Dan Levy r240.
Dan being on the 50 most beautiful list is living proof that he has a great publicist and that the list is a joke.
by Anonymous | reply 241 | November 19, 2020 11:36 PM |
It’s always been a joke. Why is the sexiest man alive a actor? I’ve seen men at working at Starbucks better looking.
by Anonymous | reply 242 | November 19, 2020 11:46 PM |
Is he a bossy bottom?
by Anonymous | reply 243 | November 20, 2020 12:28 AM |
No, he’s just BOSSY.
by Anonymous | reply 244 | November 20, 2020 2:02 AM |
R224 thanks for the advice - I’ve kept watching it and think it’s great! There’s actual story profession and or scratches deeper than just the surface (which could possibly be why some of these vapid homos didn’t like it after that)
