I hope this is true about the military vote:
But a Military Times survey conducted this August indicated former Vice President Joe Biden had 41.3 percent support from active-duty troops to Trump’s 37.4 percent. Third-party candidates came to just 12.8 percent — altogether, quite a shift from the 2016 poll. Another Military Times poll conducted earlier this month showed veterans 55 and older were more likely to vote for Trump, while younger veterans and female veterans overwhelmingly supported Biden.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 6, 2020 2:15 AM |
So it's official. I think we Dems should only mail in ballots from now on.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 6, 2020 2:16 AM |
I think mail-in ballots saved us

I really hope the military votes don't screw us over in Georgia and Arizona
after all Trump has said about them and treated them like his personal objects they'd be really idiotic to vote for him
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 6, 2020 2:21 AM |
I'll personally give head to every single hot man in military gear if those 8k military ballots give Biden the win.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 6, 2020 2:22 AM |
The military vote is almost always overwhelmingly Republican, even when the president is a POS like Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 6, 2020 2:22 AM |
Shouldn't the Military votes be thrown out like the hundreds of thousands the USPS got rid of?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 6, 2020 2:23 AM |
Even with the military votes, as long as we win PA, there mere appearance of having won AZ and GA before the military vote comes in will just add to the win in people’s minds.

by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 6, 2020 2:28 AM |
Well at least Ford has a sense of humor about it.
As frustrating as this all is, I think we're going to be very grateful NV, AZ, GA, and PA are being extra careful with the count to prevent fraud/mistakes.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 6, 2020 2:28 AM |
r32, Biden is slowly but definitely chipping away at Trump's leads in Pennsylvania and Georgia. He is actually thisclose in both states to declaring victory. Pennsylvania alone will make him president-elect.
Arizona is a different story. Biden's lead is slowly being taken down by Trump, but it might not be enough to turn the state in the end.
And Nevada just doesn't give a shit.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 6, 2020 2:29 AM |
I think a lot of people forget or don't realize that almost all the states that have been called already are still counting. The difference is the margins are so clear there's no doubt who won the state. What's so maddening about the remaining states is the razor thin margins
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 6, 2020 2:29 AM |
I'm glad Nevada has her priorities in order....like sleeping while we die of anxiety.

Trump is down to a 36,572 lead in Pennsylvania now.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 6, 2020 2:34 AM |
Unless what I read was inaccurate, or I'm just misunderstanding it, they are "military and overseas" ballots in Georgia, not necessarily just military overseas. In other words, I think it also includes civilians who live overseas. That tends to be a totally different demographic, plus they don't know how many of them will actually be returned by the deadline tomorrow anyway.

even though he was never my first choice, I can now say Biden was clearly the best Democratic nominee we could hope for in this race. The repubs were able to convince boatloads more Cubans in Miami that Biden and Harris are socialists...just imagine if Sanders had been the nominee. He would have gotten blown out without a chance in Georgia or Arizona. Warren as much as I love her would suffer the same fate with misogyny thrown in. I’ve lived in AZ for a while, and there are three metro areas. Phoenix (somewhat conservative), Flag (college townJ, and Tucson (generally liberal). Even in Phoenix Biden is ahead. Add Flag and Tucson ... there are smaller towns across the state that are conservative but have nowhere near the numbers. Fox was correct to call it early.

Biden should have run for president after Obama. Lets face it, America is rightwing, racist and very conservative. Obama was an outlier, he overcame the odds because of his charisma. Sad to say, after Biden they need to find another centrist seemingly harmless old white dude. A woman, an out gay man and another POC nominee may still be years away. Re Nevada,
90% of the ballots left to count are coming from a strong Democratic area that is voting 2-1 Biden. There is no reason to think it will change all of the sudden. Nevada should have been called before Arizona.
[quote]Careful what you wish for, Oracle. Overseas ballots tend to vote Democratic, esp this year I'd imagine. A Military Times poll also found that active military favored Biden narrowly.
well, when you put it that way...

R137, the polling in Georgia was actually pretty good this year. It did show Biden in contention in some polls, and showed close Senate races.
Dave Wasserman predicted that Biden would win Georgia in his Electoral Map prior to Tuesday, and I think Larry Sabato did, too.

by Anonymous | reply 154 | November 6, 2020 3:18 AM |
R132, I hope the progressives in the Democratic Party understand after this that we’re not living in some idealized world here. We need to win a couple of elections just to undo the damage.
In 2024, there will probably be some rabid Trumper crook like Ivanka running against the Dem. People will need to consolidate around the most sellable person in the primary. We can’t afford to have 20 people run in the primary again. Everyone needs to come together and quit attacking the party from within. I heard Julian Castro and Beto were complaining that Biden wasn’t coming to Texas and “they shouldn’t take our votes for granted.” As it turns out, Kamala wasted time in Texas that could have been spent in AZ.

Trump is complaining about voter fraud in Pennsylvania and Arizona. I believe those ballots are all legit. But, seriously, what about Florida? Trump won, but do we really believe those voting machines weren't hacked? Florida is notorious for all sorts of voting irregularities, and always leaning towards Republicans - ALWAYS! 2000 Bush/Gore was not a fluke. Same with Georgia. I hope the Dems are watching very intently what's going on there right now.
If Trump wants recounts in Arizona and Pennsylvania, I say fine - give it to him - as long as we get Florida and maybe Georgia. I would bet you they'd find nothing in Penn or Ariz. but they'd find plenty of shit in Florida !!!

Over four million more than that number voted for Biden. Why are you disregarding that and allowing Trump's narrative to be the dominating voice when it clearly is NOT.
America has a minority of conservative racists. It's a big number, but WE are bigger, We are legion. And we always will be as the popular vote has already proven in 7 of the last 8 elections. We are primarily Dems in this country.

R369 Yes, I understand. The flipside is: should people be encouraged to accept masks from complete strangers?
This is all rendered moot when you are reminded of the fact that 99% of those who go outside without masks didn't "forget" theirs at home. They are QAnon/Trump cultists and they will probably physically assault you if you offer them one.

[quote]Regular MSNBC viewers will know that Kornacki often wears khakis on election night, so I shot an email over to his producer, Adam Noboa, asking if Kornacki has a go-to spot for his prime-time uniform. He answered with two words: “The Gap!” While I couldn’t get more from Noboa or Kornacki (votes are still being counted, after all), armed with this information, I studied the color of his pants and compared it to all of The Gap’s current khaki offerings. Gap calls the distinctive color of Kornacki’s 2020 election pants “palomino brown,” and that color only comes in two styles of pant: the Modern Khaki and the Essential Khaki. Upon closer inspection, Gap’s Essential Khaki pants have a distinctive curved line of stitching next to the fly, something the Modern Khaki pants — and Kornacki’s pair — do not.
[quote]Gap’s Modern Khaki, however, comes in five cuts: skinny, slim, straight, relaxed, and athletic. While Kornacki has certainly veered baggy in the past, the pair he wore this year simply does not appear roomy enough to be either of the wider-legged relaxed or athletic cuts. But the pants he wore this year also seem to have more room in the leg (at least from the above-the-knee footage we’ve seen) than a skinny cut would provide. Of the two that remain — slim and straight — it’s really a toss-up. While I can’t say for sure, based on the pant creases I’ve seen around Kornacki’s thigh (and the fact he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to drop from baggy to slim in one midterm cycle), I’m calling straight-fit the winner. But I’ve also included the slim cut below, because if we learned anything this week, it’s that the experts can (occasionally) be wrong.

They (Allegheny County) did not have a choice and they weren't off.
They were mandated by law and court order to wait a day before finishing the 35,000 mail-in and absentee ballots because there were discrepancies (29,000 of them) they need to rectify with many of those and they couldn't until they went through a legal procedure and were approved to do so by a judge. They were doing administrative stuff instead.

by Anonymous | reply 505 | November 6, 2020 8:12 AM |
really horrible that Fox is playing up Trump's voter fraud and abnormalities claims. So at least 40% of the country will think this election is illegitimate. The damn congressional repubs can then use this false narrative as fake justification for not cooperating with Biden
by Anonymous | reply 506 | November 6, 2020 8:13 AM |
It’s a good point that the mail-in ballots threw off the ability of the GOP to calculate how many votes they needed to flip inside the hacked electronic voting machines. As far as can be proven, the mail-in votes are the only votes being correctly tallied. Everything inside those machines is hackable.

It's on every Australian evening news tonight that several US networks switched the President off, explaining that he was telling too many lies for them to cover in conscience. Our newsreaders and commentators were all just staggered by Trump's speeches today.
R508, I heard Chris Wallace objected, but I only have that second-hand.

His complete lack of understanding of what 230 is and does is more offensive to me at this moment than all of his lies. 230 is a very badly written law, which is to be expected when you have people who couldn’t program their VCRs in the 80s writing tech legislation. However, by tagging his posts as lies, they are actually protecting him from being sued. This guy is so stupid he probably brushes his teeth with the wrong end.

R508 yes but the problem is the worst propaganda shows on Fox are the biggest ratings getters. Those are the ones most repubs watch. Libertarians indoctrinate their children (frequently named "Mencken" or "Dagny") starting with bedtime stories. They become tiny know-it-all assholes who are so socially incompetent that they're well on their way to incelhood before they hit second grade.
A synopsis of The Tuttle Twins and the Food Truck Fiasco:
[quote]The oldest economic battle is repeating itself. Disruptive businesses must fight against their crony competitors--the ones with friends in government who try and protect them from innovative upstarts. Ethan and Emily Tuttle witness this battle firsthand with their food truck friends as they embark on a campaign to win public support and overturn the laws that shut them down.
[quote]Incorporating key concepts from the classic Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt, this book helps young readers learn about business, regulations, economics, protectionism, competition, and other basic market principles. Learn alongside the Tuttle Twins how government harms the economy, and what one person--or two!--can do about it.

The current Romney running it has no personality and is too much of a Trump ass-kisser - as long as she's in charge, it's the Trump party. The GOP needs an authority figure who can run the party and firmly deal with Trump's temper tantrums.
