Bringing this over from the last thread - from last night, but I guess it's mostly still where we're at this morning:
@Taniel: What we know, 3:00am EST 11/5.
Biden needs 17 EVs out of NV (6), AZ (11), GA (16), PA (20), (NC 15)
—NV: up 6K: more tmrw.
—AZ: up 68K. To offset Pima/Cococino, Trump will need more than he got today in Maricopa.
—GA: down 22K. 10s of 1000s mail left. Tight.
—PA: down 164K. 100s of 1000s mail left.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 5, 2020 1:05 PM |
Most of the PA votes left are urban. Joe's got this. NV is going to Joe too it's just going to be a slog.
Take care of yourself. Turn the damn tv off.

by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 5, 2020 1:17 PM |
Remembering who to blame:
@PaulBlu · 23m Had Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin been able to count absentee ballots ahead of time this election would have been over at like 11pm on Tuesday. Republicans in those state legislatures made this happen on purpose.
Also, fresh shit coming from the Drumpster:
Political Polls @PpollingNumbers · 12m JUST IN: Trump campaign set to make a “major announcement” in Las Vegas at 11:30 ET/ 8:30 PT
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 5, 2020 1:20 PM |
He can contest all he wants, but once Joe hits 270 I expect the Biden campaign will declare victory and start moving toward inauguration day. Trump's going to look even more petty and deranged. If Biden looses GA he can contest there and keep the GOP fuckers busy.
Also, a new administration is more interesting than complex boring recounts and I expect the media will shift coverage toward how the transition is going to work and what Dump will do as a lame duck.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 5, 2020 1:21 PM |
Suspect NV is going to release a batch of votes that favor Trump and they'll declare victory, ignoring the urban votes left to be counted.
Remember Hills won NV by a decent margin.

Will be interesting to see what happens if NV gets called for Biden later. That would put him at 270 with the AP and Fox but none of the other networks have called AZ so they wouldn’t have Biden at 270. What a mess.

It looks like another 20,000 or so votes have come in from Philadelphia, and they broke 92 percent for Biden. Along with about 9,000 votes from deep-blue Montgomery County that broke 73 percent for Biden, this cut Trump’s statewide advantage from 2.6 percentage points to 2.3 points. It might seem wild that the Philadelphia tranche of votes could be that Democratic, but look at this way: Philadelphia usually votes around 80 percent (or a little higher) for Democratic presidential candidates. Clinton, for example, won 82 percent of the county’s votes in 2016. Right now, Biden is at about 80 percent in Philadelphia. But we also know that voters who used mail-in ballots were more likely to be Democrats, so you’re talking about the most Democratic votes out of a strongly Democratic-leaning pool of voters.

NOV. 5, 9:50 AM
The president has been tweeting more this morning about wanting to “stop” the (legitimate, of course) vote count. Apparently, what Trump means, according to his campaign, is that they want to stop the count until the Trump campaign can monitor it (again, as we’ve said before, there is no proof of fraud.) The specific rules for partisans observing the vote-counting process vary from state to state and the National Council of State Legislatures has a handy guide for those rules. But take for instance, Pennsylvania, which is a pretty big prize today. “Partisan observers are permitted to be present when absentee and mail-in ballot envelopes are opened, and when the ballots are counted and recorded,” the NCSL writes. In Arizona, “Partisan observers are authorized to observe processing at the county recorder’s office.” In Nevada, “Members of the general public may observe the preparation of absentee ballots at central counting boards.” So, it’s unclear why the Trump campaign would argue that these vote counts would need to be stopped so they can observe them; they’re already allowed to observe.

“So, it’s unclear why the Trump campaign would argue that these vote counts would need to be stopped so they can observe them; they’re already allowed to observe.”
And they still play footsie with him. When the fuck are they going to acknowledge that Trump has nothing left but flinging feces? He’s creating confusion so he can complain about the confusion. For fucks sake, JUST SAY IT.

NOV. 5, 10:12 AM
A handful of votes just trickled in for Georgia’s regularly scheduled Senate election, where the race will go to a runoff if no candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote. The Republican in the race, incumbent Sen. David Perdue, is clinging to an outright victory by fewer than 2,000 votes, and as more absentee ballots are counted it’s likely he’ll drop below that mark. The special election for Georgia’s other Senate seat is also going to a runoff. If Democrat Mark Kelly hangs on to win in Arizona, and the Republican candidates keep their leads in North Carolina and Alaska, the Senate outlook would be 50-48 going into the two Georgia runoffs, and their outcomes would determine which party would control the chamber — a Republican win in either one would give the GOP control. (If the Senate is ultimately 50-50, the vice president would break ties.)

The fact that the Rs will hold the senate (very, very likely) makes me think trump won’t have much support in trying to steal the election. Biden won’t be able to do anything substantial and the Rs could take back the house in 2022. So: who cares if trump loses? In fact I’d bet that a lot of senate republicans are hoping he does. They love being the opposition party.

One thing to consider when evaluating how the polls did this year is that some states may have a lot of provisional ballots. Those could be especially Democratic in states where the provisionals consist mostly of people who intended to vote by mail but decided to vote in-person instead because of concerns about whether their ballots would be counted on time. Nate Cohn over at The New York Times estimates that provisionals alone could shift the results by 2 points toward Biden in Pennsylvania, for instance, once they’re counted.

NYT Georgia results.
96% counted and fat fuck Dump is 0.4 in the lead.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | November 5, 2020 3:15 PM |
...Considering that, on top of that, absentee ballots are likely to be considerably bluer than how the counties vote overall, catching up in Georgia looks achievable for Biden. There are also more outstanding votes reflected here (about 61,000) than earlier estimates, which had been closer to 50,000. One small bit of caution, though, when you’re perusing results: now and then, it will turn out that a group of votes that one source says is still outstanding have actually been counted already, or vice versa. The data on Georgia here would seem to be relatively clear and explicit, but you should always be careful — gathering information about the outstanding number of votes is always complicated in real time.

I think there's a real possibility Georgia will actually come in. Which will only set up two great runoffs for Senate. If Dems win both those - THEY HOLD THE SENATE. And as was said on some other thread - if this happens folks need to stop and look at what Stacy Abrams accomplished with her laser-like focus on fighting voter suppression and getting Democrats registered. I'm not going to lie, I was pushing AZ in the last thread for Trump. NV is basically the do or die state for Trump. If he loses NV, it is game over, which I am not thrilled about, but I accept.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | November 5, 2020 3:33 PM |
Trump’s legal challenges are bullshit, but if the election comes down to 1 state, that’s enough to give Trump a pretense to get before his SCOTUS stooges.
Much as they’ll want to, 5 of the 9 justices will not be able to pull off giving Trump a win in more than one state when they’re going to need different legal bases to stop the count in one but continue in another, etc.
So to truly end this, Biden needs at least 2 of the remaining 4 at issue

[quote] ...for 15 years as senior pastor of Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, I have championed the fight for equality in our state, standing firm from my pulpit against so-called religious freedom bills to support the dignity of all people . But to ensure equality for all, we need comprehensive legislation passed in Congress to enshrine equal rights for all against the whims of bad bills or the changing tides of our nation’s highest court. The notion that equal rights are a sacred part of the American promise and who we are is the covenant we have with one another. And the fierce urgency in the voices of LGBTQ people who have waited too long for equal justice under the law demands that we act now.

R150, people in Las Vegas either have a choice of Jon Ralston or Sheldon Adelson’s propaganda rag, so many prefer Ralston.
Everyone in NV knows Trump will lose, if they’re not delusional Repubs, because Vegas is Dem. But it’s really obvious news media talking heads are all from NY, and they know absolutely nothing about how things work here. Neither do Trump’s people.
Trump’s pundits somehow decided “Nevada” is Republican, and Las Vegas must be Republican because of the high Covid related rate of unemployment. In 2009, we had the highest rate of unemployment in the country, and it took years to dig out. So Trump thinks we want everything open no matter what.
Trump is wrong. Making Vegas into Typhoid Mary Town will drive off guests for decades. It would be like a big fuck you to tourists, and people won’t forget. There’s no upside to destroying the tourist industry for decades, for a month or so of being open, then killing off half the local population. People want to live. Many workers here are blue collar union and they need to be healthy to work. Trump himself is always for short term gain, if your city is built on tourism, that doesn’t work.
If he understood anything about Vegas, he’d know Clark County (the Strip) is Democratic. There are no Republicans hiding anywhere. The Republicans in the red counties voted in person and were counted long ago. Democratic mail in ballots are what’s outstanding.
Governor Steve Sisolak (D) sent out mail in ballots to everyone due to Covid. Dems will win Nevada because of that. And Repubs attacked him for it and they’re going to try to run him out because they lost the state because of it.
Why do you think Trump has been attacking mail in so hard? It guarantees a high Democratic turnout. It’s pathetic that he thinks Clark County will turn red over lost business. Everyone here knows we’re high risk due to tourism. You can’t make money if you’re dead.
The Trumpers here have been having apoplexy over shutdowns for months. Loud doesn’t mean majority. Trump’s people are either lying to Trump about his chances, to calm him down or to stir up shit, or they really are that stupid. If they are, they shouldn’t be pollsters or campaign “experts.”

by Anonymous | reply 209 | November 5, 2020 3:45 PM |
R198, Trumpers are a cult. They’re immune to all facts. That’s why a lot of Republicans are now calling themselves independents. They don’t want to be associated with it either.
Trump is old and in poor health and he’s not going to live a long time, or if he does he’ll be too sick to be in public life. His father died of Alzheimer’s. Same with McConnell. He is at death’s door. He probably won’t last to the end of Biden’s first term.
These Trump cult members will likely have their leaders die out from under them sooner than later.

Everyone is nervous, R192. I'm Canadian and since we're right next door to them, the instability is frightening, everything they do directly affects us. Four more years of Cheeto would be a disaster. Americans who think that Biden is "radical left" is hilarious to most people here as well.
We have an independent, apolitical, non-partisan agency here called Elections Canada, and they administer/oversee federal elections. No part of this shitshow would never happen here and most people I talk to are astounded at what is happening south of the border. Videos of Americans lined up for hours and hours to vote, being touted as "democracy in action!" by some Americans are viewed as a horrific voter suppression and nothing to brag about. I work with a few Americans and they either are ashamed of what's happening or they defend the gong show with defensive American exceptionalism - "we're the greatest/biggest democracy in the world," "we have 10 times the population as Canada," "our court system is complicated."

I want to see them begging and screaming, soiling themselves as they are dragged out of the court in handcuffs. Oh how I will laugh!

Biden is six electoral votes away from being the official winner since yesterday. He's won. But everybody's tiptoeing around Old Man Trump trying not to set him off. It's probably a good strategy. Let him concentrate on his lawyers and lawsuits instead of getting on Twitter and calling on his fans to go shoot anyone who had a Biden lawn sign or bumper sticker.

R229, the Democrats don't do anything specific for trans, they just say "we love the trans!" You haven't yet got to the point in the US where you are legislating for things that the trans are arguing for, such as gender self-ID or criminalising the idea of "misgendering" trans people on a federal level. Let us know when you do and we'll see how much support the Democrats can get for those kinds of policies.
But, hey, if Biden wins it will be just about - and that's against someone as awful as Trump - while the Democrats didn't manage to get the Senate and did badly in the House elections, so, yeah, maybe the Democrats do need to reflect a bit.

Trump has flouted democratic norms and conventions every step of the way. There's no reason to assume he will display any grace or dignity on his way out the door, so there's no point in Biden waiting for formal concession from Trump. I'm sure Biden isn't heartbroken about not having to share any of those transition of power rituals with Trump.

[quote] 9:15 a.m. update: Democrat Joe Biden has expanded his lead over President Donald Trump to about 12,000 votes in Nevada.
[quote] A fresh batch of returns released by state elections officials on Thursday added roughly 4,000 ballots to the lead Biden enjoyed on Wednesday. All of the new results came from heavily Democratic Clark County, where Biden built up a roughly 89,000-voter lead in early turnout.

I posted this in another thread, and it was suggested I post it here too:
Just in case anyone is curious as to why Fox/AP called and the others haven't, it's because Fox and AP are using the same data:
[quote]ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC are part of the National Election Pool, which delivers exit polls conducted by Edison Research to those organizations. Exit pollsters use written questionnaires at voting sites to find out which candidates voters selected. During the 2016 general election, Edison polled 85,000 people at 1,000 locations nationwide and conducted phone surveys with 16,000 advance voters.
[quote]The AP and Fox News left the National Election Pool after 2016. To replace traditional exit polling, those outlets partnered to develop a proprietary survey along with NORC, formerly known as the National Opinion Research Center, at the University of Chicago. The method surveys thousands of randomly selected voters in the days leading up to an election and combines that information with poll results from online panels to get a sense of who voters are and which candidates they’re leaning toward. During the 2018 elections, for example, the AP conducted 139,000 interviews with registered voters in every state.

[quote]What do people think of Nixon? Was he right to resign?
He saw the writing on the wall. In those days, things weren't as partisan and he knew that a sufficient number of Republican senators would have voted for removal if he had been impeached. Those days are long gone. Which is why no president will ever be removed unless one party has a 2/3 majority in the Senate or the President does something far more egregious than Trump has done.

If you do the math, Trump is leading by 114k. The secretary of state said there are about 550k votes to count.
Biden needs to win 60% of that vote to win Pennsylvania. He has been averaging MUCH higher than that in the absentee votes already counted.

Republicans visited Nixon in the White House when impeachment became probable. They told him how it was. Nixon was a paranoid frreak by that point, but he was also an experienced politician. I assume a deal was made trading a pardon for his resignation.
Trump is not reachable. Republicans are tired of being screamed at. Who was it who compared disagreeing with Trump to being kissed by a chainsaw? They've edged away from him and are now turning their backs. Trump will melt down and humiliate himself without any Republican politicians in attendance.

The large number of votes that Pennsylvania says are still left to count, 550,000, is very bad news for Trump in the state, although Biden could likely have closed the gap even with a smaller number.
Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kelly Boockvar tells @CNN that the state will have the “overwhelming majority” of ballots counted today. We may know today whether Biden or Trump won the state.

Biden would need to win about 63 percent of what’s left to count in Georgia in order to win it. Based on how well he’s done in late-counted ballots so far, that’s eminently doable, especially its many blue counties where the vote is still outstanding.

I'm beginning to wonder if this slow count is some agreement between PA, AZ, NV, & GA's secretaries of state to let Biden's birth state to be the one to put him over the top. I think they know that Trump doesn't have the votes to win the EC and just aren't telling us. It doesn't make sense for NV and AZ to take several hours to process these votes with over 85% of the votes counted

If GA gets called for Biden before NV and PA, then Fox and AP are going to have the same problem. He would only get to 269 with GA but not AZ, but he'd be over with both. So they'd have to call the election.

I've already told you that we are going as fast as we can! We want to be accurate, don't we? Yes! And my people need to go home at 5pm, right? We will have all votes counted by November 12th. Aside from any votes that arrived Monday because Sherilyn-Mae put those in the wrong warehouse and we won't be able to drive over there until the 13th.
