by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 5, 2020 6:01 PM |
R6 are you sure that's accurate though?
At 50-50, Dems would have 48 members plus 2 members that caucus with them that do not identify as Democrats. Rethugs would have 50. Doesn't that mean because they have 50 actual members, Rethugs would still be the majority party?

Sanders and King bring the Dem Senate caucus to 50 if both Georgia seats go to the Dems. Kamala is the tie vote in that scenario, making the Dems the majority in the senate.
As mentioned in another thread, if Biden offered something to Pat Toomey and Richard Burr to get them out of the senate, it would help. Both are republican senators in purple states with a Democratic governor that will appoint their replacements, and both announced they are not running again in 2022.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 5, 2020 6:08 PM |
R13 The independents caucus with the Dems (Bernie is one of them, duh). There is no "rule" that says you must be a registered party member, it's whom you vote for and with.

[quote]It's not uncommon for Cabinet secretaries to prepare undated letters of resignation during a presidential transition, giving the commander in chief the chance to replace them for a second term. The president decides whether to accept the resignation letters, and the process usually occurs after the election results are clear.

R106 Although beating Trump in GA is delicious, longer term getting Perdue into a runoff, provides an opportunity to win both Senate seats.
Winning both Senate seats would deliver the Senate. Getting rid of Mitch as Majority Leader... being able to appoint committee chairs. Perhaps even getting some movement on court reform. It's huge. It'd be so much more important to get these two Senate seats than to have Biden win GA.
It did not seem, on Tuesday, that the election results could get this good.
And if Stacy Abrams gets this done, she may run for Gov in 2022, but she should run for President sometime. It's unprecedented what she's done in GA.

[quote]So Nate Silver is the pied piper of democrat voters. But then who is the Republican equivalent? Don’t tell me OANN. Need somebody who uses a bunch of data to justify their partisanship
[quote]Maybe that’s what I should do for next cycle. Start a service that aggregates polling results, then adds a layer of my own “analysis” to arrive at “probability” indicators that make republicans feel good about their chances
[quote]Tell people there’s a 90% probability the Republican candidate will prevail. Then a day or two before the election be like “of course there could be polling errors and the exact opposite could happen”
[quote]Then during and after the election go on twitter to sprout a bunch of nonsensical stuff that claims I was right all along
[quote]Of course not forgetting to blame people for misunderstanding. I’m telling you: this idea is a winner

R129, I am not a Georgian, but I would think if Warnock would help push Ossoff to a win and vice versa. Especially with Stacy Abrams in the background. What she has been able to do means Dems should win in GA for cycles to come.

I'm in Chatham County, Georgia (Savannah) and the comment above expressing surprise that we only went 60%/Biden - I'm actually surprised it was that high. Riding around in the past few weeks, Trump signs are EVERYWHERE. There was a sign on a highway leading into the next county that says "Only God and Trump can save our country" which just blows my mind. Yes we have a sizable African American population in the city of Savannah but all the other towns in Chatham County are overwhelmingly Republican.
On Sundays I play the piano and a buddy of mine from the local symphony that plays the violin plays with me in a church (little side job to make some extra $$$). He and I play the music then we walk out during the sermon and go to Starbucks then come back to play the final song. We were waiting to go back in this past Sunday and he pointed to some flyers in the foyer that were a "voter's guide" that was so obviously endorsing Republicans and vilifying Democrats. He was like, how can they get away with this shit? I absolutely believe churches should have their tax exempt status revoked.

TV in general is moving away from linear and over to streaming and Fox knows that they need to reach younger viewers.
Plus Trump served his purpose. There's no value to them of letting Trump rant to Tuck-Tuck about Biden. But if they let Tom Cotton or Josh Hawley do it, and then they get the nomination, there's a debt to pay.

Joe’s very calm and very presidential comments were perfect.
1. He demonstrated the new administration’s coming covid competence while undermining Trump’s claim that covid is a hoax no one would mention after the election; and,
2. He underscored the importance of not fucking around with people’s votes.

There was actually an episode of VEEP which has exact same plot?
In the episode, Selina wins the popular vote, but still needs Nevada’s electoral votes to secure the election — prompting her to demand a recount in the state.
Selina plants protesters to either chant “count every vote” or “stop counting the votes,” depending on new information and whatever option would be more helpful to the campaign.
As it becomes clear that uncounted absentee military ballots will ultimately strip her from a win in the swing state, she switches up her strategy and orders her team to stop the recount. Here is the clip:

This is almost over, the fat lady is warming up and getting ready to sing. I'm satisfied at this point, as a diehard political junkie and election-watcher of decades.
This was not a 'blow-out' for Biden but when all is said and done it is a full-on mandate. Yes, it is: he is looking to win the popular vote by a larger margin than Trump did over Hilary in 2016, and with similar narrowish margins than Trump did in the final swing states back in 2016 as well. If Trump and Repubs called that election a "Mandate", then this one also deserves that term. as well.
I don't care about losing a few seats in the House. The Senate is a MUST, for this to be a full mandate with teeth. All we need is to TIE that body at 50 - Kamala will be the tiebreaker vote there. That's all that's needed folks, you don't need more. Get it done and away we GO.

R374, that's not concern trolling. I made a similar point on another thread. If it comes down to 1 state, the way it did in BvG in 2000, Trump just needs a pretext to get the issue before SCOTUS. But if he needs more than one state to win, even his stooges on SCOTUS won't be able to pull off a 5-4 decision that fixes the vote one way in one state but another way in another state in such a way as to give him the win.

So what Trump is going to say now:
On Fox News, presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway said Donald Trump is expected to talk about the “the state of the race from his perspective”.
Trump is also planning to speak about what he calls “suppression polls” which showed Biden leading in key swing states ahead of election day. Those polls made his supporters feel like his candidacy was a lost cause, the president has argued. The idea is entirely nonsensical – to the extent that polls have any effect on voter behavior, they tend to do the opposite – leaving supporters of the leading candidate feeling complacent, and motivating the supporters of the trailing candidate to show up and vote.

Knowing how Orange can't stand to lose and nothing is ever his fault and he also can't shut up...
I'm waiting for the interview he gives where he says losing wasn't his fault because Daddy Put Put had promised him to fix the election for him again like he did in 2016 and he (Put Put) was "very weak," and didn't follow through.

So Trump is saying that upon seeing the polls look bad, his base had so little confidence in Trump, and so much belief in the "fake media" that they decided they wouldn't bother voting?

[quote]In his deranged mind he probably thinks by spouting about how the Rethugs kept so many of their other seats that it must mean there was voter fraud against him.
So he's arguing that the Dems launched a sophisticated fraud operation to target him but failed to stop Republicans from gaining House seats and retaining the balance of power in the Senate?

the real tell with Fox is how their worst hosts treat this. Even though someone like Brett Baier is a partisan hack, he's not a deranged psycho like Hannity, Carlson, Ingraham, Pirro, Dobbs etc. If those people start turning on him you know Fox is done with Trump

Trump is so pathetic, acting once again like the victim. He claims to be the undisputed king of the United States, but his weak whimpering gives him away.
He'll never admit losing, he'll never ever concede. He's trapped himself into a corner that he can't buy his way out of.
