What music are you listening to right now?

Post what you're listening to. I caught David Byrne's "American Utopia" on HBO the other night since then I've been making my way through the Talking Heads discography. Talking Heads: 77 might be my favorite album from that year (1977) which was a killer year for music.

Titanium f/Sia by David Guerra. Was a hit in 2011, but seems to be coming back for another run.

by Anonymousreply 2October 21, 2020 8:48 PM

Feeling a little tense right now. Especially with the though of anyone listening to David Guetta.

R5 I plan on getting it. It's too bad Talking Heads will never reunite. I'd love to see them altogether. Despite David 'writing' all the martial Tina had a huge part in the sound of the music. Her bass playing is inimitable.

I'm listening to a lot of music coming out of Francophone countries at the moment. It's much better than what passes for pop music coming out of the US.

Also listening to a lot of stuff on KEXP. They showcase some excellent musicians who would otherwise not get a look in. Highly recommended.

I was listening to the B-52 a crazy amount in the earlier Covid times. I guess I just wanted to play things in general that were cheerful. Now I have switched over to listening to classic rock radio. It reminds me of childhood, and makes me feel warm and happy. I will put on the radio when I'm cooking and it makes it more fun. I like not knowing what's going to play next.

Other than that, a shit ton of jazz.

OP - there's a whole threat on Talking Heads as well. I thought American Utopia was beautiful. I saw it in concert as well. I can't stop thinking that this could have been a Talking Heads reunion if David Byrne and Chris & Tina were to bury the hatchet. They could have played arenas. As an aside, Remain In Light turned 40 years old two weeks ago.

Off topic: I REALLY hate that I'm no longer into finding new music as much as I used to be because it's so fucking accessible now. I mean...it's literally at my fingertips, and I ALMOST don't care. Thank God for Shazam pop-up.

by Anonymousreply 182November 14, 2020 9:23 AM

R182, I followed new music religiously in my teens. At some point in my early 20s I started losing interest and then after a couple of years noticed how new everything was when I got back into it. That has happened a few times over the years. I'm now in my late 40s and still get excited over new stuff every now and then. I'm actually happy how old and boring all my earlier pop/rock favorites many times sound now since it makes me realize how things have moved on. It's also always nice to notice how some songs still sound fresh decades later.

by Anonymousreply 254December 7, 2020 9:39 PM

R254 You must have difficulty reading what the OP posted above.

He caught "American Utopia" on HBO the other day & was going through the Talking Heads discography..

No where did he mention a SINGLE song that he was listening to RIGHT then (not did poster #1).

Some on here mention entire albums instead of a song or just list groups like R176 & R179.

by Anonymousreply 255December 7, 2020 9:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 257December 7, 2020 10:04 PM

Dear asswipe r255,

Given what OP wrote, he was going through the entire Talking Heads discography. At no point did he post link after link after link to each song. Yet I was able to get that he was listening to lots of Talking Heads. And for all we know, he might have been listening to TH right then. At least he didn't post every link he could find.

And...at no point did r176 post multiple links to Tangerine Dream and Wendy Carlos songs.

And then, you know what? R179 didn't post links to Bjork.

IOW, you might simply have posted "Starfuck, the Police, and George Michael." One post. No boring songs.

by Anonymousreply 258December 7, 2020 10:08 PM

R258 You're changing your argument you made at R254. Lots of posters have not followed your imaginary rule of linking to a song that they were listening to RIGHT NOW.

Point #2 = No one had posted on this thread in several days before I revived it today. My double posts (which I don't always do on here) give this thread's several dozen viewers per day something to click on if they want to. No one is forcing them (or you) to even notice the links or even give them a listen.

Point 3 = Everything in this world doesn't revolve around you & your so called wonderful tastes in music.

I've just realised that had I been a teen in the 80s, I would've been all about Siouxsie and the Banshees, Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, The Cure etc. Which shouldn't surprise me as I was goth-adjacent in the late 90s (didn't dress the part or spend all my times with those groups, but did go to the parties and listen to a lot of the music). So am having a great time checking out all their albums and realising that there is plenty of 80s music that is actually good! (I've never really been into the pop side of the 80s). I'm also into some of the Euro-horror soundtracks from that time,

At the moment I am listening to this one:
