Brenton Thwaites

Why hasn’t he “broken out”?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 170March 22, 2021 4:00 PM

Because he takes Accutane?

by Anonymousreply 1October 5, 2020 4:45 AM

Break through?

by Anonymousreply 2October 5, 2020 4:45 PM

Pimply-faced kid.

by Anonymousreply 3October 5, 2020 9:11 PM

Stupid, annoying name.

by Anonymousreply 4October 5, 2020 9:53 PM

tiny head

by Anonymousreply 5October 5, 2020 9:57 PM

Them's the breaks.

by Anonymousreply 6October 5, 2020 9:57 PM

He’s the lead on Titans.

What more do you want?

by Anonymousreply 7October 5, 2020 10:01 PM

Cute, but a little too boring for a leading man career. Not that it's stopped many others, but I've never seen him show a lot of charisma or talent. He's not awful at all, but he doesn't do anything that several dozen other guys his age could do just as well if not better.

by Anonymousreply 8October 5, 2020 10:13 PM

R8, he’s like a clone of Orlando Bloom.

by Anonymousreply 9October 5, 2020 10:30 PM

Looks good to me.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 10October 6, 2020 2:47 AM

Because he got married at such a young age.

Young females want to swoon over a cute young star, but they can't do it when they know he's married.

by Anonymousreply 11October 6, 2020 5:30 AM

Because of his meh look and weird last name?

by Anonymousreply 12October 6, 2020 11:37 AM

Bump. There was a blind item about him being told by some movie studio bigwig to forget about an A-list movie career because he wasn't talented enough. The bigwig also allegedly said he'd be better off focusing on television. There's a glut of Aussie actors on American film and TV anyway. Maybe it needs to level off a bit.

by Anonymousreply 13December 5, 2020 4:11 PM

Brenton Thwaites was ever going to be a movie star because he doesn’t have a massive head. If you want to be career in the movies, you need a huge fucking head. Look at Gyllenhaal’s.

R13 you had to write the word ‘bump,’ because you didn’t think your post itself would bump it?

R13, I thought that it was good netiquette to do so.

by Anonymousreply 18December 5, 2020 5:40 PM

Good looking guy but he's missing star quality, he has mediocre appeal.

by Anonymousreply 19December 5, 2020 6:01 PM

Word is that he can't thwait to break out and become a huge star!

by Anonymousreply 20December 5, 2020 7:11 PM

He hasn't learned how to properly act on his knees yet.

by Anonymousreply 21December 5, 2020 7:13 PM

He's fairly good on that DC Comics show "Titans". He plays Dick Grayson aka Robin aka Nightwing, and shows some skin. But it's a Berlanti show, so there's that.

by Anonymousreply 22December 5, 2020 8:09 PM

R22 It isn't Dick Grayson without more ass display and bondage.

by Anonymousreply 23December 5, 2020 9:30 PM

He's a cutie, but Ryan Corr is the next breakout actor from Oz.

by Anonymousreply 24December 5, 2020 9:55 PM

Cor!

by Anonymousreply 25December 5, 2020 9:58 PM

He's cute but not remarkable. And he's busy popping out kids as quickly as possible

by Anonymousreply 26December 5, 2020 10:00 PM

^^^How many children does he have?

Who does his PR? I'm curious.

by Anonymousreply 33December 6, 2020 1:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 37December 6, 2020 1:39 PM

Jess from Sean Cody reminds me of him. Same carefree easy vibe. I like to think Brenton has the same attitude about sex with guys that Jess has!

by Anonymousreply 44December 9, 2020 1:35 AM

[quote] but Ryan Corr is the next breakout actor from Oz.

He's already been busted for stupidity and cocaine or worse.

He's like Thwaites in that he has a cute face now but'll it turn squishy when he gets flabby in 15 years.

by Anonymousreply 45December 9, 2020 1:39 AM

But Corr has depth as an actor. I don’t know if the heroin bust was a one time thing or not. I hope that it was. He doesn’t need to totally duplicate Heath’s career trajectory.

by Anonymousreply 46December 10, 2020 11:02 AM

[quote] But Corr has depth…

R46 Corr has been given "depth" by his groomer, director, cinematographer and the editor who cut out all his mistakes.

He hasn't done theatre, ergo, he's a movie performer rather than an actor.

^ Thwaites also has a terrible 'stache.

by Anonymousreply 49December 11, 2020 9:12 PM

^ No argument there - they should both go.

by Anonymousreply 50December 12, 2020 4:37 AM

Awww, I like Corr. I hope that he doesn't turn into another Ledger; or worse, another Crowe.

by Anonymousreply 51December 12, 2020 8:19 PM

R51 They'll honor him for his "talent", while everyone understands that he is a cautious fuck-up story.

by Anonymousreply 52December 13, 2020 4:50 AM

Remember when DL thought he was gay? Lol

by Anonymousreply 53December 13, 2020 6:00 AM

I’m betting he’s bi, at least. He has settled down (or settled for) a wife and family, having sown his “wild oats.”

by Anonymousreply 54December 13, 2020 7:39 AM

He does seem, well, passive. Maybe because he's got this hippie vibe going on. He's foxy, but I hate the way that he dresses. Like a young Johnny Depp. Hipster clothes and jewelry. Ugh. Turquoise even.

by Anonymousreply 55December 14, 2020 12:24 AM

I've been binging Titans on HBO Max. It's actually better than I thought I'd be, it pays a nice tribute to Wolfman/Perez-era Titans, it's well-shot and has a good soundtrack. Brenton is very nice to look at, not the greatest actor ever but he works as Dick Grayson. The woman who plays Kory is great.

by Anonymousreply 56December 15, 2020 10:25 PM

He has amazing pit hair.

This stuck up bitch refused to put out for a few key Hollywood power players. You have to play the game if you want to win.

by Anonymousreply 59December 17, 2020 12:58 AM

Well, R59, you don't think that it's awful to not have a career succeed because you don't want to sleep with someone for a part? Ok, if he's a bad actor and sleeping with someone will get him a role, that is even worse. It's why we have JLaw and Chris Pine, amongst others.

by Anonymousreply 60December 17, 2020 9:19 PM

Because he's not "pure" white.

Thread closed.

by Anonymousreply 61December 18, 2020 1:26 AM

R61 Truth, though he'd still get farther if he knew when to get on his knees.

by Anonymousreply 62December 18, 2020 4:58 AM

UGh, Titans is just awful.

They should've made it an adult animated series like the Justice League. It doesn't translate to live-action. The costumes are shit--especially Raven's, Wonder Girl's, and the Terminator's (I'm old skool). They don't even fly. Also, they crammed Rose, Connor, and Jericho into the same season. I can't imagine how they can pull off the Judas Contract or the Tamaran struggle with Komand'r.

by Anonymousreply 63December 18, 2020 9:26 AM

He has wobbly knees which is why he won’t go down

by Anonymousreply 64December 18, 2020 2:01 PM

Killer legs, though. But so round shouldered.

by Anonymousreply 65December 18, 2020 11:46 PM

He did a few blockbusters like that one with Gerard Butler and they were all shit.

He did a few cheap horror flicks and sci-fi flicks like that one with Laurence Fishburne and they were all shit.

He did a Lifetime movie and it was shit.

The only halfway decent movie he did was Son of a Gun with Ewan McGregor (in which he got his ass out in a prison scene) but nobody saw it which is the fate of 99% of Australian movies.

He's not all white and he can't pass for half American black either so that makes him difficult to cast in movies where there is often a family relationship involved.

If he'd stayed in Australia he would have gotten more roles because he does indeed look part Aboriginal and so he would be easy to cast as, say, Aaron Pederson's son or just as someone in general with a bit of Abo in them.

by Anonymousreply 66December 18, 2020 11:53 PM

[quote] Because he's not "pure" white.

[quote] He's not all white and he can't pass for half American black

Explain this please.

by Anonymousreply 67December 18, 2020 11:58 PM

R67 He looks half white, half Aboriginal. Aboriginals do not look African American. Just as African Americans don't look Jamaican. Different skin tone. Different features.

Here's a photo of Aaron Pedersen who is a well-known Australian actor who is half Aboriginal. Brenton could easily be cast as his son in a movie or show.

If you tried to cast Brenton as the bi-racial son of, say, Samuel L. Jackson you'd be laughed out of town.

[quote]He's fairly good on that DC Comics show "Titans". He plays Dick Grayson aka Robin aka Nightwing, and shows some skin. But it's a Berlanti show, so there's that.

It's not really a Berlanti show like Berlanti's CW DC shows which are all more or less crap. Titans has way higher production values and that includes pretty much everything from writing to cinematography to directing. No Brenton in this clip but it's one of my favorite scenes from the show, especially with that soundtrack since it always reminds me of my childhood.

He doesn't look biracial to me, at least not directly. DNA is a strange beast; maybe his olive skin is a throwback to an ancestor in antiquity, yeah? I believe that he's of English, Scottish and Irish descent like a lot of Australians. There could be a million reasons his skin is like that. Maybe he likes to tan.

The Public grew tired of me in exotic costume dramas in the awful 1950s.

by Anonymousreply 99December 20, 2020 3:56 AM

^ Keanu Reeves

Johnny Depp

Adam Driver

Ezra Miller

The Rock

Vin Diesel

by Anonymousreply 100December 20, 2020 11:01 AM

Strange, R100, because I think many people know Vin Diesel and the Rock are mixed race, but Brenton just confuses people. They don’t know what he “is”.

by Anonymousreply 101December 20, 2020 1:21 PM

But what I think is interesting about his look is that you really can't tell what he is but he could pass as many things. Latino, Italian, half black. I've seen a lot of Half Asians who have a similar look. Instead of it being a positive, it seems to have stalled his career. People don't know what to make of him so he's in a netherworld.

by Anonymousreply 102December 20, 2020 1:23 PM

He looks part Aboriginal to me. He could have a generational admixture. Michael Hutchence another Australian looked part Aboriginal too.

I also think guys who look sort of ethnic are less desirable in the entertainment community than females.

by Anonymousreply 120December 21, 2020 12:48 AM

I think the actor playing Jason on Titans is hotter, and that Superboy is hotter than both of them.

by Anonymousreply 121December 21, 2020 6:07 AM

Anyone else sense sexual tension between Jason Todd and Hawk Hank on the show?

by Anonymousreply 122December 21, 2020 2:34 PM

[quote] I also think guys who look sort of ethnic are less desirable in the entertainment community than females.

Why do you think that is, and how does that impact Brenton?

by Anonymousreply 123December 22, 2020 3:46 AM

It's purely a sexist thing as the straight guys who run the studios and networks have fetishes about ethnic looking women, especially those who are half Asian like Kristen Kreuk. Leading men generally look either or. When you have someone like Thwaites in a romantic lead, then it becomes a question as to his ethnicity with his leading lady.

by Anonymousreply 124December 22, 2020 4:05 AM

That would explain why so many black leading actresses are actually mixed or light-skinned (Halle Berry, Tessa Thompson, Zazie Beetz, Zoe Kravitz, Zoe Saldana, Rosario Dawson, Thandie Newton) while most black leading actors are mono-racial (Denzel Washington, Idris Elba, Michael B. Jordan, Don Cheadle, John David Washington)

by Anonymousreply 125December 22, 2020 4:18 AM

Is it the ambiguity in Brenton's racial makeup that causes hesitancy in hiring him, or is it because he's not fully white?

by Anonymousreply 126December 22, 2020 4:21 AM

Serious question R126. When you see him, what do you think his ethnicity is? I think it makes him interesting looking but it creates questions when you cast him.

by Anonymousreply 127December 22, 2020 4:46 AM

I'm not sure, R127. The first time I saw him I thought he might Middle Eastern/Arabic, Italian or Hispanic of some sort. I never would've thought Australian or of English descent.

Still my question remains "Is it the ambiguity in Brenton's racial makeup that causes hesitancy in hiring him, or is it because he's not fully white?" Or is it both?

by Anonymousreply 128December 22, 2020 4:55 AM

Or maybe we do not give a fuck about him

by Anonymousreply 129December 22, 2020 10:15 AM

I honestly don't believe that he's anything but a white Australian with a tan. Who knows what ancestors he had in antiquity that gives him the ability to tan well. Some of his younger photos show him to be rather pale. Anything is possible, I guess, but I don't see it.

by Anonymousreply 130December 22, 2020 1:37 PM

R123 Most movies and TV shows include a family dynamic. It's much easier to cast people who look alike enough to pass for father and son or mother and daughter or brother and sister etc than it is to cast someone who looks vaguely ethnic and pair them up with someone who isn't. It's why some redheads like Nicole Kidman go blonde. They instantly become easier to cast.

R128 It's not about him not being fully white. It's about him not being fully anything. If he was fully white he could be cast as Richard Gere's son. If he was fully Hispanic he could be cast as Jennifer Lopez's son. If he was fully black he could be cast as Samuel L. Jackson's son. But he's not fully anything which makes him difficult to cast because now the filmmakers have to explain why he doesn't match his family members on the show or in the movie. Is he adopted? Is he a product of adultery? It's easier to just cast someone who matches the star than it is it rewrite the script and explain it.

R130 obviously isn't Australian and is just embarrassing himself at this point.

by Anonymousreply 131December 22, 2020 1:53 PM

No, R131, I am not Australian. But you sound defensive and foolish right now. Most people do when they are confronted with valid opinions that challenge theirs.

It's all right doll. We've all be through it. And most of us, obviously save for some, never do.

I'll just put that out there.

by Anonymousreply 132December 22, 2020 3:02 PM

I still remember how puzzled I was in Peggy Sue Got Married when Sophia Coppola turned up as her sister. Parents were Barbara Harris and Don Murray. How did this WASP family have this ethnic looking daughter. When I saw the credits and noted that her last name was Coppola, I understood.

by Anonymousreply 133December 22, 2020 3:45 PM

R132 I'm defensive about what, dear?

Someone asked a question. I answered it (as someone who's actually in the business).

Sorry if that disturbs you, "doll".

R133 Exactly. Perfectly example of what I was referring to in R131.

by Anonymousreply 134December 22, 2020 6:15 PM

I'm not disturbed at all.

But you are foolish. It was the way you answered it. You know that.

by Anonymousreply 135December 22, 2020 6:29 PM

I think he's cute and has a nice body. Yeah he has a racially ambiguous look but culturally he is an Australian. It says a lot about our society that people still need to put him into a box.

I think it's a given in post-colonial countries like Australia, New Zealand, The US and most of Latin America. That everyone is mixed.

by Anonymousreply 136December 22, 2020 8:34 PM

I love him too.

As a white, privileged, Australian male, I have no idea why I connect with him.

by Anonymousreply 137December 22, 2020 9:54 PM

He's cute. Like Josh Hartnett cute. I think that they bear a slight resemblance, at least body type if not facially.

by Anonymousreply 138December 23, 2020 1:16 AM

Cute but boring. He clearly never reached for serious roles. So his career has been lukewarm.

by Anonymousreply 139December 23, 2020 1:21 AM

He lacks charisma. They've been trying to make him happen for years, but people simply aren't interested.

If you cannot breakout in a superhero role, it ain't gonna ever happen.

He should have gone to David Geffen. But that would mean that he had no soul.

[quote] I still remember how puzzled I was in Peggy Sue Got Married when Sophia Coppola turned up as her sister. Parents were Barbara Harris and Don Murray. How did this WASP family have this ethnic looking daughter. When I saw the credits and noted that her last name was Coppola, I understood.

It's been years since I watched Peggy Sue Got Married so I don't remembered Sofia Coppola in it. I do remember an interview Francis Ford Coppola did, however, where for some reason he mentioned casting a blonde person as an Italian in one of his films (Godfather Part III?) where he said something like "And blonde Italians do exist". I wondered why he had the need to even mention that.

Remember not remembered.

He reminds me of Brenton for some reason.

[quote] It says a lot about our society that people still need to put him into a box.

It says a lot about a certain few posters here who keep bringing up Brenton's race repeatedly. NO ONE ELSE gives a shit. For some reason his race and skin color has been debated here for years, and I still don't have a clue what the hell for. Is it some white supremacy thing? Or a black lives matter thing? No fucking idea. That said I very much doubt any black person would view him as one, which makes me think it's pure old racism that's keeping the debate alive.

What isn't, on DL? There's a significant contingent that's obsessed with sniffing out adjacency.

Love this pic a hidden photog caught of him with his Titans co-star!

We are talking major scandal here.

Remember when we all thought he was bisexual? What happened with that?

by Anonymousreply 148December 25, 2020 6:39 AM

Doesn't he have three children?

by Anonymousreply 149December 25, 2020 6:50 AM

Thwee children???

by Anonymousreply 150December 25, 2020 9:08 AM

Thwait a minute!

by Anonymousreply 151December 25, 2020 2:07 PM

Genetics is so fascinating. Look at r27. The brothers look nothing alike except their smiles.

by Anonymousreply 152December 25, 2020 8:31 PM

Brent bump

by Anonymousreply 153December 31, 2020 3:50 AM

r131 He could very well pass for a Brazilian guy, I've seen many Brazilians look like him. Or Mediterranean white, a Greek for example.

by Anonymousreply 154December 31, 2020 4:18 AM

^ Good point. A lot of Australians are of Mediterranean descent. The stereotype is all Aussies are Irish and English descent with pale skin, blond hair, freckles and blue eyes. But there is a sizable population of Australians of Greek, Spanish and Italian descent.

Maybe his family's milkman was an immigrant from the Mediterranean regions.

Thwaites

by Anonymousreply 157January 1, 2021 4:12 AM

1) I've never heard of him (not that that means anything)

2) Is that Jeff Bridges in OPs photo?

3) From this photo it does look like he has 'broken out' or 'expanded'

R158, that is indeed Jeff Bridges. I think the name of the film is The Giver. Meryl Streep is also in it.

by Anonymousreply 159January 1, 2021 4:40 AM

Brenton is looking a bit plump in R158's photo. He's in between projects I guess, so it's okay.

by Anonymousreply 160January 1, 2021 6:59 PM

Titans is such a god awful boring show. And I hate how all of the action scenes are filmed in the dark.

by Anonymousreply 161January 1, 2021 8:04 PM

I was tempted to watch it, but not for $2USD an episode. I like Brenton, but not that much.

He's no Dacre Montgomery.

[quote] Does Australian actor Brenton Thwaites go both ways? He certainly gave that impression in a recent interview with when he was asked what he looks for in a partner. ‘Male or female?’ he asked an interviewer for The Fix. The interviewer answered: ‘Both.’ Thwaites, whose films include Maleficent, The Giver, and Blue Lagoon: The Awakening, then replied: ‘They’re very different.’

And then he quickly got married to a woman.

by Anonymousreply 166January 9, 2021 11:09 PM

Are they even married?

by Anonymousreply 167January 10, 2021 6:41 PM

What are we supposed to take from that statement, “Male or female; they’re very different?”.

by Anonymousreply 168January 15, 2021 3:11 PM

The tru is that his films haven’t been very good. GODS OF EGYPT is unwatchable, same with GHOSTS OF WAR.

by Anonymousreply 169March 22, 2021 4:00 PM

Truth, not tru. Damned iPad.
