R19 I completely agree with you. It sickens me to know that not just Trump but the entire family refused to wear masks at the debate. I wonder when supporters are going to finally get a clue that these people couldn't care less about anyone but themselves. Trump doesn't care how many people he may have infected. Sick & disgusting people all the way around.

As Mary Trump phrased it and Michael Cohen backed it up, the relationships with the children are all transactional. They need him more than he needs them. The only one he likes is Ivanka. DJ is a clear case of hey please love me Daddy. And Eric and Tiffany are not far behind. Tiffany knows that if she wants anything she has to play the game. Baron is, as Trump said, Melania's child. The whole lot is just rotten to the core.

Every member of the Trump Family, with the exception of Barron, deserves to get very sick from the Covid 19 virus. They thumbed there noses at protocol, and now Daddy Dearest and the evil Stepmonster are paying the price. Let's see the rest of them go down one by one, and watch their long, slow recovery.

I live in the red part of Illinois and Republican politicians and their volunteers are crawling all over the place this weekend going door-to-door with not a mask in sight.
At the grocery I was the only person wearing a mask. At CVS I was the only person wearing a mask besides the workers. Nobody in my town wears a mask.
When you ask when Republicans are going to start taking this seriously the answer is never. They are never going to take it seriously.
Republicans are horrible people. Period. There is no getting around this anymore. They do not care about you, or your loved ones, or even their own loved ones. They will never wear masks. They will never social distance. They are stupid, brainwashed, hideous people. If trump lives they will crow non-stop that Democrats are making a big deal out of nothing and it will get even worse.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 4, 2020 5:41 AM |
R23, such a marked contrast between red and blue Illinois. Almost everyone up in the northern part where I live is wearing a mask without controversy. I've noticed that over the last two months, even the asshole whiners up here have seemingly become resigned to the fact that they have to wear a fucking mask. All the businesses who want to stay in business are requiring face masks to enter. The assholes like the moronic mayor of Orland Park are the outliers and are treated as such at this point. The only thing that sucks is how close we are to Wisconsin. The entirety of Illinois is surrounded by fucking asshole red states.

Saw on UK TV this morning a feature in today's 'Sunday Telegraph': a near full-page colour picture of guests seated at the recent Rose Garden event. Those many already known to be infected are numbered and identified.
Thus this event gains traction in historical notoriety. There's too much astonishing narrative to process at the moment - but yet again we might imagine the GOP reaction had Obama or Hillary hosted such an event.
It's a faulty thought-experiment of course, as each of them would have been by magnitudes more socially responsible. It's as though Trump constantly citing 'The China Plague' was all he needed to do: apportion blame, nothing else. Actually, the buck stops with him, and now has, bigly.

by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 4, 2020 12:56 PM |
The Rose Garden Massacre is what Dr Who refers to as a “fixed point in time.” In other words, a single event with such massive consequences, that if it never happened, history itself would be changed.
So how many of these people, even if they live, are going to be long haulers, maybe unable to do their jobs or barely able to leave the house? The worst COVID is when you get a big viral load, like from not wearing masks and spending a long period with an infected person. How long were those people sitting there close together? An hour? And a lot of them were elderly.
This is going to affect a lot of people not seen in public, low and high level staffers at the WH. I read yesterday 11 staffers were already affected. Who’s going to be left over there in two weeks? A few may just quit.
What will they do after they pass it to spouses or children? Some Republicans aren’t complete sociopaths, they care about their own family, even if they don’t care about anyone else’s. Some staffers may be diabetic or have other conditions, or their family does. They may feel it’s not safe to work there. The Secret Service ought to just quit. No point in getting a pension if you’re dead.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 4, 2020 1:16 PM |

These press conferences are such a sham. I don't say that just because I want to believe Dump is on his last breath, I'm saying no matter how he's doing they're going to say he's bouncing off the walls, so what's the point? It's political theater, not a serious medical update.

We'll just have to wait for Mark Meadows to provide an off-the-record update following this press conference.

This Dr. Connelly has fallen into line and is reading the script as prepared for him. He did flub a bit when he said "40%" instead of "90 something percent" when talking about oxygen saturation. All the doctors speaking are keeping it short, they don't want to mess up and then have to issue a follow up "I misspoke..." statement.

Conley graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2006, according to records from the Virginia Board of Medicine.
Doctors of osteopathic medicine, or D.O.s, are fully licensed physicians, according to the American Osteopathic Association. Their training is similar to that of traditional medical doctors but differs in that they are trained to look at the body and its care holistically rather than just prescribing medicine for specific symptoms or illnesses.
Osteopathic doctors are required to complete additional coursework to understand how the body’s bones, muscles and nerves affect overall functioning and health, and they sometimes use manual techniques for diagnosis and treatment, such as applying pressure to or stretching out joints and muscles. They can also prescribe medicine.

This is absolutely unacceptable.
Right then and there the reporter, or any other reporter in their presence, should have railed against Barr for perpetrating a lie.
“No one wears a mask to protect themselves from an infectious disease that you may have, Attorney General. You know full well that I am wearing a mask to protect you and those around me in case I have the infectious disease.
Perpetrating the lie that one wears a mask out of fear that they may catch the disease from others is what foments needless defensive and sometimes violent responses from those in denial of a disease that has just incapacitated your boss, the President of these United States.

Agree, R79. Reporters need to come out and say the WH and administration officials continue to put everyone around them at risk. They should have been emphasizing this from the start.
The Lincoln Project is reaching out to people in the WH that are fed up with the administration's flouting of the rules and hopefully, we'll hear their stories.

Remember, the medical doctors at Walter Reed are military men as well. Trump is commander in chief of the military, or their boss. Trump doesn’t want the stock market to crash and as such, has informed the doctors they have to play up his great health and say nothing critical of his condition. That is why we will not get specific information. Dr. Conley today skirted around the facts again today. After reading tweets by many doctors, nurses and former COVID patients this afternoon, it appears to me that Trump’s current pressing problem is pneumonia, which can grow worse over the next couple of days. There were also many negative comments about the drugs given Trump, when they were given, and possible negative interactions.
It has also been stated that Trump will not turn over the presidency to Pence. After all, Jared has continued as acting President for him for some time and will do so in the future. Jared meanwhile has sequestered Pence to keep him out of harm’s way.

WSJ: Trump Didn’t Disclose First Positive Covid-19 Test While Awaiting a Second Test on Thursday
President received positive result on Thursday evening before making an appearance on Fox News in which he didn’t reveal those results.
"As the virus spread among the people closest to him, Mr. Trump also asked one adviser not to disclose results of their own positive test. “Don’t tell anyone,” Mr. Trump said, according to a person familiar with the conversation."

Regular employees of the executive branch (which is basically all federal employees other than the military, the post office, the courts, and Congress) have the option to be covered by the Federal Employees Health Benefits system, which offers a large number of plans. The government pays for most of the premiums; employees have to pick up the rest, which differs depending on the type of plan you choose and whether you include your family. I don't know if this is different for the President, but I assume that possibly the Walter Reed expenses are covered as one of the perks of being President.

Talking on camera is a special skill and honestly, for some it takes years of practice to learn to do it effectively. Conley was too green and never should have been sent out there. I’ve done some media/PR work in the past and doctors are the worst. They are often just too confident. You give them all the media coaching in the world and as soon as the camera is on, they stumble and stammer, eyes darting left and right or else they claim up totally and sit there with a dopey grin on their face.

DL fans of the Everest threads will be familiar with Dexamethasone, used when the brain lacks oxygen.
[quote]Known among mountaineers as “dex,” dexamethasone is a steroid used to treat high-altitude cerebral edema. Every year about 2 percent of mountain climbers suffer from this life-threatening condition, according to Ken Kamler’s 2005 article, “Steroids on Everest” on the National Geographic website. However, a trend has emerged in which mountaineers use dex to sustain performance and alleviate the symptoms -- nausea, fatigue, dizziness, confusion, mood swings -- of acute mountain sickness. The use of dex to increase exercise capacity for high altitude climbs is controversial and poses health risks.

Considering a lot of the people that got it from Trump are either really old or fat, they’re not all going to do well. And none of them are going to be overtreated like Trump is.
Kellyanne might be ok because she’s skinny. OTOH, she probably got a huge viral load because she was all up in the face of everyone at the Rose Garden Massacre. And Bill Barr was right in her face a few inches away, and he’s old and fat. He said he wasn’t going to quarantine, then suddenly he did. People think he’s positive now, which is about right considering he was exposed a week ago.
The treatment Trump got was overkill and not in the good way. They were giving him drugs you don’t use together, a steroid you don’t use unless the person is on oxygen because it doesn’t work without oxygen, and people get irritability and wild mood swings from taking it. My guess is they tried to put Trump on oxygen for the Dexy, but he refused. So they gave it to him anyway knowing all it would do is make him high and irrational and irritable. He’s probably been screaming at everyone. His treatment makes no sense according to doctors, because throwing more drugs at it doesn’t necessarily make them more effective. And if you use them when you don’t need them, they may not work as well when you do need them.
I’m waiting for the Dexy crash which should be hilarious. Or he’ll leave the hospital addicted to it and with a new drug for his Dr Feelgood to prescribe. And he’s irrational when he takes it and has the nuclear codes. Good times!

White House press secretary tests positive for Covid-19
From CNN's Jason Hoffman
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany tweeted today that she tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday morning.
She says she is experiencing no symptoms and had no knowledge of Hope Hick’s testing positive before her briefing last Thursday.
She said in a statement posted on her Twitter account that she will begin to quarantine.
McEnany is at least the 11th person close to President Trump to have recently tested positive for the virus.

Donald Trump is the most corrupt president in our nation's history.

I can't figure out if it was a hoax or not; he changed the news cycle from his crazy debate performance & taxes, but he lost a weekend campaigning 4 weeks before the election and had to be hospitalized with a virus he's consistently downplayed. Plus, the WH leaks like a fucking sieve - and a hairbrained plot like this would surely be cooked up by Javanka - so the other staffers would leak out what they were up to. So I guess we'll have to see what does or doesn't come out the rest of this week
But whatever the case, Biden & Lincoln Project can put back up negative ads - and of course add one with that bullshit motorcade/jerk off session on Sunday night.

Years ago I returned from a vacation, noticing on the plane that my legs felt tight, my tongue thick. I though it might be related to the long plane trip. Within a day of arriving home, I was in the ER with my throat closing, couldn't breathe. To make a long tale short, I was diagnosed after weeks with idiopathic angioedema (it wasnt that). these episodes of swelling were not related to any allergy or other cause. During critical periods corticosteroids were used to reduce inflammation. Large doses. They never really found the cause, and the syndrome went on for about a year.
One night on yet another emergency room disaster, I became very angry at the doctors who I felt were not listening to me. I told the doctor I felt there were growths like walnuts in my bowel. The doctor left. I climbed up on the bed and began to try to pull the tv monitor off the wall. I was yelling maybe now someone will listen to me!! I managed to half rip it down before my bf was able to stop me. I am slight, not muscular, usually zen about things. The most peaceful person. I felt like Superman.
The drs realized my response was caused by the corticosteroids.
Trump is going to crash in a few days.

R468, sorry you don't like medical terms. Trump was not just "short of breath" in the video, like a sedentary obese person just making it to the mailbox, and ending up with increased respiratory rate, "puffing", a pattern that resolves pretty quickly when the O2 demand is finally met.
Trump is "dyspneic". He is having difficulty breathing with increased respiratory effort, altered breathing pattern (you can see his shoulders lift and the increases expansion of his chest), increased respiratory rate, open mouth breathing. He appears to be suppressing a cough, and sometimes gasping. Someone mentioned he appears to be using his accessory muscles to compensate for his reduced capacity.
He may have had the corticosteroid effect of feeling like a young bull, but it definitely is wearing off. If he has this level of respiratory compromise, he may also have some cardiac involvement as well.

R497, I respect your opinion and knowledge. My admittedly uneducated, but experienced guess is, after showily ascending a steep staircase (when there is a ground level door, no doubt leading to an elevator) he is severely out of breath and desperate not to show it. He can’t let himself gasp for air, too embarrassing, so he’s holding himself rigid and trying to appear normal but he’s starting to hyperventilate. Been there, done that.

[quote]As for the optics, “deranged balcony address” is certainly a look – but not one that tends to end well. How might this version turn out? Unfortunately, it’s not a question Trump’s attention span equips him to answer. His reference points for the form are the occasional three minutes of historical documentaries he’s forced to watch while searching his stomach-folds for the TV remote. It feels like he switches over to Fox News before discovering how a whole series of 20th-century balcony stories ended.

My money is on all the Covid positive senators coming back to vote on ACB. The White House denied Wednesday that President Trump worked in the Oval Office on Tuesday while still suffering from coronavirus, despite an assertion otherwise from by White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow.
Kudlow told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that Trump had worked in the Oval with unspecified “extra precautions” to protect against the spread of the virus.
He declined to “be specific” on whether Trump wore a mask, instead insisting that “traffic is limited” in the Oval and that “additional measures … much greater than simply masking” had been taken.
