Breaking-NYT Has Don's Taxes

He's broke. If they can distill this down so idiots can understand it, possibly the sheen will dull on the golden toilet.

At the very least this will make him even more of a drug-addled trainwreck on Tuesday night.

by Anonymousreply 3September 27, 2020 9:25 PM

[quote]He’s GOING DOWN.

Not for this. Nothing has mattered.

Remember, he said not paying taxes made him smart in 2016.

by Anonymousreply 4September 27, 2020 9:28 PM

Oh dang it, the link looked OK when I pasted it in. I'm sorry.

They should take the paywall down for this.

I love that my broke ass pays more in income taxes than he does.

The USA financial system and government in general is rigged by the rich.

by Anonymousreply 5September 27, 2020 9:28 PM

His supporters will of course not care less but it may help swing any undecideds out there.

by Anonymousreply 6September 27, 2020 9:28 PM

Fuck the Turd, he's fighting like there is no tomorrow. Well, nothing to lose, he might as well just drop dead, the most despised creature in the universe!!!!

by Anonymousreply 7September 27, 2020 9:29 PM

He claims to be a billionaire but only paid $750 in taxes???

by Anonymousreply 8September 27, 2020 9:29 PM

This is annoyingly written, uncharacteristic of the New York Times. The lead-in is endless. It reminds me of Rachel Maddow’s never-ending supposed tax revelation that turned out to be nothing.

This seems a lot meatier than that but why do they need 10 paragraphs up front that describe how important the info is? Give us the info.

by Anonymousreply 9September 27, 2020 9:30 PM

I might be piss-poor, but DL old fat farts are too stupid and unlearned to bypass paywall sites? SAD!!!

by Anonymousreply 10September 27, 2020 9:32 PM

“In 2018, for example, Mr. Trump announced in his disclosure that he had made at least $434.9 million. The tax records deliver a very different portrait of his bottom line: $47.4 million in losses.”

The question is, is this 1) tax fraud; 2) a wealthy person exploiting legal loopholes that should not exist; or 3) evidence he is not that wealthy?

I live near Ivanka and Jared, and for a billionaire heiress, her little $4 million abode is kind of embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 11September 27, 2020 9:32 PM

[quote]This seems a lot meatier than that but why do they need 10 paragraphs up front that describe how important the info is? Give us the info.

It's to give Maggie Habermann enough time to craft a both-sides response article.

by Anonymousreply 12September 27, 2020 9:33 PM

Now we can see why Trump needs to be President: he desperately needs every dollar he's been stealing from the U.S. taxpayers.

by Anonymousreply 13September 27, 2020 9:34 PM

If his complete and total failure in handling COVID didn't cause people to move away, nothing will.

The man could take a stinking shit on the American flag, and his supporters would defend it.

Idiotic coverage. They spend paragraphs talking about what the records don't prove, when they should be leading off with the discrepancies between the taxes and the disclosure statements. It's always like this, including the bit where they tried to impeach him on conspiracy theories, and not for withholding documents and witnesses from Congress. 10 bucks says Biden would pardon him, given the chance.

by Anonymousreply 28September 27, 2020 10:10 PM

Rather, Trump claims he's broke to the I.R.S. so he doesn't have to pay taxes.

by Anonymousreply 29September 27, 2020 10:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 30September 27, 2020 10:13 PM

It’s time for Michael Bloomberg, a legitimate multi-billionaire, to VISIBLY interpret what the taxes reveal. Bloomberg has called out Trump in the past about inflating his value. He can continue that attack now with specifics. One true billionaire to “another”.

It is not about the tax rate it IS about the tax inequity in this country.

by Anonymousreply 41September 27, 2020 10:27 PM

Personally I thought the House made a great impeachment case in December. Too bad the GOP didn't give a fuck.

Maybe Nancy could impeach him again just for old-time's sake, while slowing down the Senate's SC nomination process.

by Anonymousreply 69September 27, 2020 11:47 PM

Well R69 that is the idea. An impeachment from The House stops Senate business except for the impeachment issue. Now, The Senate could vote to not take it up, but this is not frivolous.

He’s really fucked. He’s probably blown through his personal funds, the inheritance is gone and Daddy can’t save him. He can’t refinance those properties because he can’t obtain new financing due to insolvent assets and overextension of credit, there is so much heat on Deutsche Bank they can’t even lend to him anymore. The properties will be in foreclosure by 2023. He probably moved his residence to Florida for the homestead protection laws, so if the house of cards fall he can claim Mar-A-Lago as his primary residence and at least retain that property along with protection from the Republican state government. I think you’ll see him flee to MAL first, then when shit gets really bad to Saudi Arabia, like when he & Ivanka are about to be extradited to NY. I don’t think Russia would be the smart move and they know that, because Putin is too quick to get rid of unnecessary liabilities.

Trump started on third base and had an enormous fortune handed to him, and completely blew it all. And has nothing to show for it today.

Trump is they very definition of affirmative action over privileged, white privilege, white male privilege and getting by because he's white and male.

Trump will never be respected. He is a fucking fraud, and America gave him the keys to the white house because he's white. Only a white man could pull this shit and get away with it without suffering any consequences for his actions.

R140 look up 5 times law enforcement could have arrested Trump but didn't.

I don't think I can link it, but that article basically tells the entire story on how Trump has gotten away with crimes and corruption for decades.

Rudy Giuliani also helped to shut investigations into Trump down too. And the IRS just looked the other way. Post it here if you can.

by Anonymousreply 143September 28, 2020 5:13 AM

Will this help at the margins? About 10% are still supposedly undecided.

by Anonymousreply 144September 28, 2020 5:19 AM

Surely a percentage will be pushed over the edge because of this.

by Anonymousreply 145September 28, 2020 5:41 AM

R142 I wouldn't be surprised if Trump promised Kennedy's son a pardon if he would step down from the bench.

How are all these cunts not in jail already? LOCK THEM UP!

by Anonymousreply 149September 28, 2020 11:34 AM

It's not so much that this news will push Undecideds over the edge, it's the very good chance that Trump will be so unnerved by it that he will spend the debate rambling semi-incoherently, sort of the way he rambled about West Point during his Tulsa rally.

It has always been assumed that his empire was smoke and mirrors, but this reveals just how much--he would be flat out broke were it not for residuals from The Apprentice and the amount he makes from that show decreases yearly.

A lot of what he did (pay Ivanka as a consultant, write off haircuts) is aggressive but not necessarily illegal--during an audit the IRS may disallow it but it's worth the risk.

by Anonymousreply 150September 28, 2020 12:52 PM

R148 she disclosed it on financial disclosures required by government officials, we don’t have her tax returns.

by Anonymousreply 151September 28, 2020 12:56 PM

I think I'm done with his "Press conferences". I get that reporters risk WH clearance by aggressively asking questions but when the NYT story was brought up during the one yesterday, he went on about being audited and fake news and quickly changed the topic by going to a "friendly" reporter. NOBODY challenged his audited excuse that he's been pushing for 4 YEARS. He went on about Biden taking drugs, brought up Hunter and they just let it slide. Very frustrating, so I'm done with those bad boys.

by Anonymousreply 152September 28, 2020 12:59 PM

[quote] and where the fuck was the IRS in all this?

Charles Rettig, the Trump-appointed IRS Commissioner who has refused to release President Trump’s tax returns, has made hundreds of thousands of dollars renting out Trump properties while in office, according to documents obtained by CREW. Last year Rettig said it was his decision whether to turn over Trump’s tax returns to Congress, under the supervision of Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin...

Rettig isn’t exactly advertising his Trump-based profits. In fact, there’s no mention of Trump at all in the disclosures. The two properties are referred to only as “Residential Real Estate – Honolulu, Hawaii” and “Residential Real Estate (2) – Honolulu, Hawaii.” This isn’t new. When he was first nominated, he failed to disclose the properties were in a Trump-branded building. At his confirmation hearing, he did not directly answer concerns about the properties, only saying he would serve in an “impartial, unbiased” manner.

The IRS targets the poor, not the rich:

"The five counties with the highest audit rates are all predominantly African American, rural counties in the Deep South. The audit rate is also very high in South Texas’ largely Hispanic counties and in counties with Native American reservations, such as in South Dakota. Primarily poor, white counties, such as those in eastern Kentucky in Appalachia, also have elevated audit rates."

by Anonymousreply 156September 28, 2020 3:28 PM

5-4-3-2-1... The Republicans march out a slew of bimbos who say Biden molested them. Trump hinted back when Tara Reade oozed onto the scene that there was "more coming". The 'Biden is a pedo' line keeps reappearing- maybe one of them will be underaged.

And they seem blind to the 100s of millions in personally liable loans that would completely wipe him out.

I never thought I'd see, in real time, before my eyes, a true instance of Poetic Justice.

Trump didn't want to be, nor did he think he would be, elected the POTUS. But his marks, er, excuse me, his moronic voters didn't know a bluff when they saw one.

Now, Trump actually is exposed for the deadbeat loser he is, when, if he hadn't been elected, none of this would have come out.

In short, the marks exposed the Con Man. It's poetic justice indeed that he has his own voters to blame for this, but, he hates them anyway, so, there's that.

R194, it's pretty evident that nobody in the Trump campaign thought he'd win. Melania wept when the race was called, and they weren't tears of joy.

It soon became clear to Trump the kind of obligations he had to Putin, and what kind of trouble he was in, which is why he went through that phase in 2017 where he would only eat fast food, and stuff from sealed packages; it was disclosed that he was afraid of being poisoned.

Who's infamous for poisonings? The Russians. Putin.

by Anonymousreply 199September 28, 2020 11:29 PM

Before you accuse me of saying there is no difference between the Democrats and the Republicans, Democrats are way more concerned about the little guy than Republicans but I am beyond pissed that these sort of tax laws continue under both Democratic and Republican Party control. The Democrats sometimes clean up tax laws around the edges then when the Republicans get back control they even corrupt the tax code even more for the rich guys.

We have to find a way to get money out of politics probably only through a constitutional amendment but the problem with that is the rich always seem to find some new loophole and a constitutional amendment is so permanent and hard to change. I am not sure an amendment can be written so broadly to anticipate newly found loopholes, but we better find a way to fix this. Anything short of a constitutional amendment can be ruled unconstitutional by this conservative Supreme Court.

It went pretty in-depth into the HUGE discrepancies at Trump corporate regarding financial disclosures on Real Estate holdings. What was extremely evident is that Trump co. was reporting one set of valuations for property to the lenders on said property ( values inflated) viz a viz those claimed in tax documents to the IRS, which were * Surprise*- much lower. I honestly thought they had him dead-to-rights on ( at least) corporate tax fraud right there. The Daily has a great take on it today, interview with the reporters.

TL;DR:

* Trump has never made money from his businesses.

* Money from The Apprentice and the endorsement deals that stemmed from it (Trump Steaks) gave him a temporary lifeline

* That money is mostly all gone and Trump has personally guaranteed $420MM in debt because banks don't believe his businesses are worth refinancing.

* The "audit" Trump refers to is due to his receiving at $75MM refund from the IRS because he claimed he made no money in the mid-00s, money the IRS wants back, and they have been trying to get it back ever since

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 235September 29, 2020 1:55 PM

^^Also, The Apprentice is the only thing he's actually ever made money from. His hotels and golf courses are bleeding money and it would be safe to say that the pandemic hit them very hard as it has every other business in that industry, and that the damage to their reputation from his time in office will also hit them hard.

* Whoever holds the debt (banks, foreign and domestic) has a huge amount of leverage over him

* Amazon may not pay much in taxes ,but Jeff Bezos does.

by Anonymousreply 236September 29, 2020 1:58 PM

"His hotels and golf courses are bleeding money."

Operated by anyone else, these facilities would probably break even or make a profit during these Covid times. But when you're constantly withdrawing millions and millions in "management fees" to keep the House of Trump and all the grifting kids, their spouses and ex-spouses and whores afloat, no entity could make enough money.

Golf courses are EXCELLENT for money laundering.

First you gut & renovate the building.

Then you hire your wife to be the “architect” & to “redecorate” the place. She overcharges for services after she orders supplies from Acme Design Corporation.

Then you hire heavy equipment to tear down trees in one area, chop them up into wood chips, then you have the same heavy equipment plant trees all around the golf course so nobody outside of it has a view of it. Then you put in sand traps & hills, using lots of very expensive heavy rental equipment

You hire illegal workers to maintain & groom the place inside & outside & pay them cash.

Hire your daughter to be a “consultant.”

Take tons of money off every year on your golf course for “maintenance & grooming” - hundreds of thousands, maybe millions - in pesticides, herbicides, mowing, trimming, animal removal (squirrels, raccoons, possums, alligators), floral displays indoors & outdoors. Hold fundraisers there & charge an exorbitant amount of money if you agree to show up, shake a few hands & pose for open-lipped, teeth gritting, thumbs-up photos.

The point R245 seems to be that Trump bought the wrong golf courses, assumed that putting his name on them would somehow make them successful and then proceeded to run them into the ground.

None of them have made money, they are all serious money pits and worse, there's no one particularly interested in taking them off of Trump's orange hands because they are bad investments, tainted by association or both.

Part of me thinks Dump really, really doesn’t care, specifically because he’s thinking about spending as much as he can and golfing as much as he can, not caring what debts he leaves after he’s gone, or that his kids might even be destitute.

by Anonymousreply 248September 29, 2020 7:05 PM

He’s been inside of a trap for 4 years.

Trump may think it’s cool being president, but he’s trapped like a gnat in amber. He can’t hire porn stars to service him at the WH. He’s always surrounded by secret service. He has to attend meetings where he is made to listen to other people besides himself. He can’t have sex with Ivanka. He can’t call his sons assholes either to their faces or behind their backs. He’s being recorded. His taxes are out there. He knows NY state is looking into tax fraud for the whole of the Trump Org going back decades.

Every week, another bombshell about his taxes will drop. His son Eric is being called to testify about the family “nature reserve.” Something is bugging Junior - he’s been sniffing and weeping despite his big words. He’s a walking poster boy for “You scared, bro? You look scared.”

Bitch Melania is PISSED - “Now everyone know i marry only millionaire, not beeg shot billionaire. And I going to be 50 year old soon. What kind of billionaire will want me now? I weel heff custody of giant boy Barron 24/7. Hees goink to be hard to handle now at these size. How weel I afford giant bodyguard?”

Have we discussed "Donald J Trump State Park" the land he so generously donated so he could get a tax write-off?

[quote]He’s been inside of a trap for 4 years.

Yes, but he knows the alternative is worse -- potential criminal liability, creditors pounding at his door, Melania taking his ass to the cleaners. He only thinks in the short term, so for now he's desperate for another four years.

CNN: Joe Biden on Tuesday released his 2019 tax returns, which show he and his wife, Jill, paid nearly $300,000 in federal income tax last year and had an adjusted gross income of about $985,000.

Last year, the Bidens released tax returns that showed they paid a total of $3.7 million in 2017 and $1.5 million in 2018.

President Donald Trump paid no federal income taxes whatsoever in 10 out of 15 years beginning in 2000.

Part 2 of the NY Times investigation came out last night and they're starting to reveal the Russia ties, including Bayrock. This isn't gonna end well for Trump.

Bayrock, Felix Sater. That’s the guy with the Trump business card whom Trump claimed not to know back in 2016.

by Anonymousreply 254September 29, 2020 9:03 PM

Bayrock? Don't know him. Never met him.

by Anonymousreply 255September 29, 2020 9:51 PM

I want Mark Burnett taken down. He’s the one responsible for resurrecting Trump. Someone needs to take that sonofabitch DOWN. If he so much as jaywalked I want him busted for it.

by Anonymousreply 256September 29, 2020 10:00 PM

Trump instead is tweeting about election fraud at the polls. He's not touching the tax issue

by Anonymousreply 257September 29, 2020 10:02 PM

He is in legit legal jeopardy with his taxes and insurance, and in financial jeopardy with his loans and business. Not just Insolvency, but tax and insurance fraud. He could go to jail for decades. He probably has been advised to stay completely silent about it. Not a good place to be 30 days before an election when he is going to be drilled about it from the media and The Dems.

by Anonymousreply 258September 29, 2020 10:11 PM

If any of us filed our taxes like Trump files his, we'd be in prison.

by Anonymousreply 259September 29, 2020 10:28 PM

I don't know. Isn't he stealing funds per usual and hiding them off shore? He and his family must have these types of accounts.

by Anonymousreply 260September 29, 2020 10:50 PM

R260, maybe, but that isn't consistent with the Trump we know. No, Trump acts exactly like a man who has wasted two--now probably three--fortunes. (Plus, if you needed further confirmation, just look at the man Ivanka married. He also burned through about half a billion dollars by making stupid decisions).

by Anonymousreply 264October 4, 2020 6:28 PM

Tax cheat gets free medical care! This should be the news. A running total of what this type of care would cost the average American on top of the taxes they pay.

by Anonymousreply 265October 4, 2020 7:01 PM

Yeah R256, a fucking Brit is responsible for America having Trump in the fucking white house.

Fucked up isn't it? The Brits gave been trying to derail America ever since the American Revolutionary War.

Fuck Them!!

by Anonymousreply 266October 9, 2020 1:48 AM

I want to see the entire Trump organization completely dismantled and destroyed. It's nothing but a crime syndicate anyway. The whole Trump system needs to be irreparably damaged and dissolved. RICO the fuck out of the Trump family, and lock them all up.

by Anonymousreply 267October 9, 2020 1:51 AM

Some might find fault with Hillary Clinton's political skills, R266.

by Anonymousreply 268October 9, 2020 1:58 AM

I work in a tax office, and I have no clue how a tax return reveals one's net worth.

You don't have to report how much cash you have in the bank, or report any assets unless you are selling them. All you know is what the taxpayer is reporting, and what their bank is reporting for interest, or capital gains/losses. It is not a complete picture of net worth is all.

by Anonymousreply 269October 9, 2020 2:18 AM

R269, the NYTimes's article explains that it did not rely sole on Trump's tax returns, but additional financial documents, which is why I think that the information came from either an accounting firm or a law firm.

by Anonymousreply 270October 9, 2020 2:27 AM

I guess his corona diagnosis made everyone forget about his shady tax returns.

by Anonymousreply 271October 9, 2020 2:32 AM

Nobody has forgotten. Certainly the |Manhattan DA's office hasn't.

by Anonymousreply 272October 9, 2020 2:40 AM

I’m betting it came from Michael Cohen

by Anonymousreply 273October 9, 2020 2:57 AM

I just read the article and the authors say a reimbursement to Cohen for the Stormy Daniels hu$h-up was not found in the records. So they think Trump claimed it under "legal fees"- since those don't need to be itemized. He wrote it off!

Donald Trump gave his beloved friend and mentor Roy Cohn a set of diamond cuff links.

Before Cohn’s death the I.R.S. took pretty much everything he had of value except for his cherished gift from his close friend.

After Cohn died it was found that the cuff links were fake. - Tom Joad

The details on that tax break at r277 are so sleazy. Has Trump ever made an honest deal in his life?

[quote]The Seven Springs appraisal, obtained by The Washington Post, appears to have relied on unsupported assertions and misleading conclusions that boosted the value of Trump’s charitable gift — and his tax break, according to two independent appraisers who reviewed the document at The Post’s request.

[quote]The appraisal was written by Cushman & Wakefield, a commercial real estate firm that has worked with Trump over many years and whose New York City headquarters are in a building co-owned by Trump.

[quote]The firm established the value of the 212-acre estate by assuming a future buyer could build and sell 24 mansions on the land, without providing evidence that such a subdivision would meet local regulations. Over two decades, Trump himself tried to build on Seven Springs — first a golf course and later various housing developments — but the projects were stymied amid local opposition and environmental disputes.

The article has more details. I hope that Cushman & Wakefield is indicted along with any other companies that abetted Trump's sleazy tax evasions.

Well this story died in record time.

NYT: Trump is poor and the deed to our country is probably now owned by Russian oligarchs.

Trump: Cough.

All Journalists: We wish you a full and speedy recovery, sir!!!

Trump: Watch my new movie Triumph of the Will!

All Journalists: This behavior is scary!

Trump: Hillary’s emails!

All Journalists: Why does he keep talking about Hillary’s emails? How odd.

NYT: TRUMP TALKS ABOUT HILLARY’S EMAILS!!

CNN: Let’s talk about Trump talking about Hillary’s emails. Why do you think he does it?

MSNBC: I’m Rachel Maddow, and this week I’m doing a deep dive into every time Trump ever mentioned Hillary’s emails.

NYT Reporter: Hey guys, we didn’t finish with the dirt on his taxes that everyone waited for years for...

NYT Editor: SHUSH! Anderson Cooper is talking about Trump talking about Hillary’s emails.
