The Gays and Tennis Part 62-Roland Garros!

Roland Garros in the fall, who'd have thought? This unpredictable years continues...

by Anonymousreply 346October 5, 2020 7:52 PM

Nole.

by Anonymousreply 1September 28, 2020 11:26 PM

a bunch of male upsets so far quite surprising

I know Fognini had his ankles operated on recently but losing to Kukushkin is a shock on clay

by Anonymousreply 2September 29, 2020 6:02 AM

lmfao Pospisil is kind of dumb. He thinks he can challenge Berrettini's forehand and is getting killed. Pospisil hits hard but Berrettini's forehand is even bigger. He's not making him work on the backhand. Berrettini is playing well but Pospisil has poor tactics and he can't even handle Berrettini's slice backhand

by Anonymousreply 3September 29, 2020 9:49 AM

Mayar Sherif takes the first set off Pliskbot!

AND Popsicle is out, meekly

by Anonymousreply 6September 29, 2020 10:59 AM

Mladenovic collpased from 51 to 57 36

She had 7 set points. However, on the first one, she actually won the point but a bad call by the umpire saved Siegmund. On replay Mladenovic's drop shot hit the ground twice before Siegmund got it

by Anonymousreply 7September 29, 2020 1:49 PM

And it's the second time in a row

by Anonymousreply 8September 29, 2020 2:02 PM

Butch lez Jen Brady follows up her terrific US Open with a first round loss at RG.

by Anonymousreply 9September 29, 2020 2:06 PM

I personally hate the expression “it is what it is”, but it sounded even more irksome when Djokovic used it in an interview on Eurosport where he was asked about the very slow courts and heavy balls at the FO.

by Anonymousreply 10September 29, 2020 2:56 PM

[quote] Pospisil is kind of dumb.

I’s not dumb.

by Anonymousreply 11September 29, 2020 4:30 PM

And Tsitsipas bordering the ridicule

by Anonymousreply 12September 29, 2020 5:17 PM

Popsicle melted

by Anonymousreply 13September 29, 2020 5:26 PM

It seems Tsitsipas woke up. Hopefully it won't be too late.

Nole is the big favourite in that part of the draw but at least we deserve a little fight and we won't get that if all players who could give him a scare lose in the first round

by Anonymousreply 14September 29, 2020 5:37 PM

Tsitsipas is going the way of Alexander Zverev these days, getting himself into trouble in early rounds at Slams, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory like he did at the US Open. Very disappointing. I wonder if this next generation coming up (e.g., Sinner) will go after it more and have fewer mental lapses?

by Anonymousreply 15September 29, 2020 5:50 PM

No, his ways are different.

Zverev used to have complications from the very first round, just to lose at the third (all tough matches). Stefanos use to win easily the first two rounds but he ends losing at the first complicated match

by Anonymousreply 16September 29, 2020 5:57 PM

Tsitsipas is wasting too many break points and he is going to regret it

by Anonymousreply 17September 29, 2020 6:00 PM

why are all the top male players have some kind of "mental Issue"? is their any top male player that is more or less down to earth and normal?..

by Anonymousreply 18September 29, 2020 6:02 PM

Finally he gets the break

by Anonymousreply 19September 29, 2020 6:02 PM

And Shapo won the second (winning the last four games)

by Anonymousreply 20September 29, 2020 6:04 PM

R19 And inmediately he lost his serve (even when he had several game points).

I think he is going to lose and he showed several times that he is not mentally strong

by Anonymousreply 21September 29, 2020 6:11 PM

Gilles Simon generously giving bulge today.

by Anonymousreply 22September 29, 2020 7:15 PM

All this talk of heavy balls; like it's a bad thing!

by Anonymousreply 23September 29, 2020 7:17 PM

Au contraire, R21.

by Anonymousreply 24September 29, 2020 7:28 PM

R24 This is a victory that could be useful in the long run. This time he was the one winning after being two sets down

by Anonymousreply 25September 29, 2020 7:37 PM

I feel sorry for Simon's tight shorts having to take all that strain.

by Anonymousreply 26September 29, 2020 7:39 PM

Lots of Gilles-Bulges today.

[quote]Oh, good, that idiot of Errani lost. Even if she showed once again how graceless she is

by Anonymousreply 55September 30, 2020 5:19 PM

Zverev and Herbert go to the fifth set

by Anonymousreply 56September 30, 2020 5:46 PM

Zverev up 5-3 on the third. At one point he was up 3-0 and Herbert came back...but, alas, I do not think it will happen now. It has to be heartbreaking for Herbert.

by Anonymousreply 57September 30, 2020 6:24 PM

And Herbert broke again.... but we are still watching Gauff on Tennis Channel....

by Anonymousreply 58September 30, 2020 6:29 PM

Boo! PHH out.

by Anonymousreply 59September 30, 2020 6:32 PM

Indeed, sad

by Anonymousreply 60September 30, 2020 6:33 PM

Wow, Azarenka got pummeled. Did anyone see that match? Good win for Petr Korda's son taking out Isner. He won 3 sets to 1, and in the 3 he won he must have at least broken once per set based on the score. That's well done against serve-bot Isner. Even Rafa went to tiebreaks with Isner at RG! Based on Anisimova's scores so far, she either must be playing well or her opponents have sucked ass. She's got Halep next, though. I don't see Anisimova getting through that one, but it's the WTA so you never know!

by Anonymousreply 61September 30, 2020 6:34 PM

Was hoping we'd see 2 of the 3 biggest asswipes in the ATP top 10 out by the 2nd round. Alas, only one down, two still left...

by Anonymousreply 62September 30, 2020 6:38 PM

Gauff seems to have more weight on her shots compared to last season. That stubby Italian she's playing has one of the loudest screams ever! LOL

by Anonymousreply 63September 30, 2020 6:44 PM

Cute twink Hugo Gaston is the last Frenchman standing in the single

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 64September 30, 2020 7:00 PM

France is able to produce good juniors almost every year but most of them have a hard time on the pro tour. And of course they put so much pressure on the most promising ones that they end underachiving (Gasquet was supposed to be Nadal's biggest rival for the future when they both reached the top 100).

But only one french on third round is a very bad result

by Anonymousreply 65September 30, 2020 7:06 PM

Gauff is on the verge of elimination.

One part of the women's draw looks really terrible

by Anonymousreply 66September 30, 2020 7:07 PM

Umpire with heavy plastic surgery trying to save Gauff with bogus calls on 5-3 40-40 for Trevisan

by Anonymousreply 67September 30, 2020 7:16 PM

I'm surprised how well Anisimova is doing.

Last year this was the tournament she really showed her potential (she was not that far from defeating Barty). If she is inspired it could be a tough match for Halep

by Anonymousreply 68September 30, 2020 7:19 PM

I like that umpire! She's the one who looks a little like a grown-up Ariana Grande with the high pony action. She's attractive.

Speaking of that, has the hot male umpire who was called out earlier in the thread been sighted?

by Anonymousreply 69September 30, 2020 7:20 PM

Gauff has lost.

by Anonymousreply 71September 30, 2020 7:28 PM

It's a weird year, but frankly i expected better from Gauff at the US Open and here.

If she doesn't solve her serve problem she could be the next Michelle Larcher de Brito or Sesil Karatancheva (both very precocious but with lackluster careers because the obvious holes in their games)

by Anonymousreply 72September 30, 2020 7:34 PM

What about ME? I think Trump fucked me.

by Anonymousreply 73September 30, 2020 8:05 PM

Trevisan is AWFUL. Her screaming is really obnoxious. It's not even a grunt. Her over celebration on match point after beating 16 year old was classless too. Hope she gest pummeled next round

so glad Isner is out. The courts are playing very slow so that nullifies his booming serve a bit

by Anonymousreply 74September 30, 2020 8:05 PM

R74 did you hear Coco's obnoxious COME ON's during the match? That and her Barilla patch make me resent CoCo. Her meal ticket parents are just as obnoxious.

by Anonymousreply 75September 30, 2020 8:08 PM

Sinner continuing to dazzle with a straight sets win. Would love to see him do well here.

by Anonymousreply 76September 30, 2020 8:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 77September 30, 2020 8:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 86September 30, 2020 10:17 PM

Yes, Rafa has chest hair. He is a male specimen.

by Anonymousreply 87September 30, 2020 10:20 PM

Veljovic made a similar call in Shapovalov-Simon. It became a bitch fight with Simon who stopped short of accusing her of being a liar ("you said..", "I said..", "you said..", "I said..")

by Anonymousreply 88September 30, 2020 10:37 PM

Serena shouldn't retire. She's injured and she'll recover. The WTA is a huge mess and no one is really dominating. If she can't make the semis (uninjured) then yeah, retire.

Venus is the one who needs to retire. Andy Murray taking wild card spots from younger players is shameful and he needs to go away again, permanently.

by Anonymousreply 89September 30, 2020 11:07 PM

Rafa doesn't have chest hair, it's more like he has chest WISPS of hair... federer is the one who has the really hairy chest (and stomach)

strange how you would think he Nadal would have super ripped abs because of the style he plays and fitness he has to be in, but he doesn't, he even has bit of love handles going on....muscular arms only when they are working but at rest, nothing as well....

by Anonymousreply 90October 1, 2020 12:26 AM

Shouldn't tennis players all look like Fucsovics? Some of them look so saggy.

This was a point he pushed on Khachanov in response after the jibe about 'sitting at home' from the Russian.

He wrote back: 'So you think what the players did during this pandemic was smart? I'd love to have an intellectual conversation with you but I'm not sure it would go further than how hard you could hit a ball. I've simply been holding people accountable.'

'And next time before talking about my intellect read at least a few books , instead or playing video games whole day long,' Khachanov snapped back.

Kyrgios pointed to his charity work before labelling Khachanov an 'absolute pelican'.

'I've also been feeding the hungry, helping open up new facilities for kids to get active,' he tweeted. 'But way to do your research you absolute pelican.'

The pair's fraught exchange ended with Khachanov insisting he 'didn't go personal' against the Australian and that it was Kyrgios who 'wants a fight'.

'Again I didn't go personal against you. You are the one who wants a fight,' he said. 'If you don't get what I was trying to say, then may be you are 'too smart' to understand that. Enjoy your days at home.'

by Anonymousreply 95October 1, 2020 4:50 AM

Kyrgios is pure scum. He is the worst ever...even worse than Connors and that is saying a lot.

by Anonymousreply 96October 1, 2020 5:11 AM

I have seen Nadal play twice. I was surprised how different he looks in real life. He is a skinny, tallish thing....nothing to do with the heavily built man you see on TV.

by Anonymousreply 97October 1, 2020 7:03 AM

Kyrgios is just a rolling thornbush of provocation. He's mastered how to crash and burn what might start as good points.

by Anonymousreply 98October 1, 2020 7:43 AM

I absolutely DESPISE Nadal, but I do love that powder blue shirt. :-)

by Anonymousreply 99October 1, 2020 8:38 AM

by Anonymousreply 101October 1, 2020 12:01 PM

[quote]I have seen Nadal play twice. I was surprised how different he looks in real life. He is a skinny, tallish thing....nothing to do with the heavily built man you see on TV.

As i was just about to say, cameras do add a couple pounds on your frame.

by Anonymousreply 102October 1, 2020 12:15 PM

I was really surprised the first time I saw Federer and Nadal standing next to each other and realized that they're basically the same height. With their respective body types, I always assumed that Nadal would be a few inches shorter.

by Anonymousreply 103October 1, 2020 12:39 PM

Love that former champ Ostopenko took out Pliskbot. Sloane Stephens is down a set and a break. Her inconsistency issues continue. Kenin won her match in 3 sets. Danielle Collins took out her opponent in straights, and her scores have been impressive like Anisimova's have been. The two of them are either playing really well or their opponents have been playing poorly.

by Anonymousreply 104October 1, 2020 1:28 PM

R104, I was wondering the same thing about Anisimova and Collins. I don't think of either of them as being particularly good on clay (especially Collins), but I hadn't seen any of their matches so I'm curious as to how well they're really playing.

by Anonymousreply 105October 1, 2020 1:35 PM

What has Kyrgios done in his career that anyone would respect anything that he has to say?

by Anonymousreply 106October 1, 2020 1:35 PM

Shapo is still fighting in the fifth....

by Anonymousreply 107October 1, 2020 1:37 PM

R105 Anisimova was on the verge of eliminating Barty last year, and she defeated Halep. She played very good on clay last year

R106 Nothing

Ostapenko is back, bitches. On my tennis forum people were celebrating, Pliskobot doesn't have many fans. One thing is to be a bitchy diva like Sharapova and other very different being a harsh bore like Pliskova

by Anonymousreply 108October 1, 2020 1:51 PM

Fucksabitch (Fucsovics) wins again in a complicated 3 setter

by Anonymousreply 109October 1, 2020 1:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 110October 1, 2020 2:04 PM

R110 A spanish one Puntodebreak (it's more a blog with comments section), i used to write on tennisforum, but lately i'm more into male tennis than female tennis

by Anonymousreply 111October 1, 2020 2:07 PM

How in the world is Pliskova ranked in the top 4...mind boggling.

by Anonymousreply 112October 1, 2020 2:18 PM

Shapo out.

by Anonymousreply 113October 1, 2020 2:20 PM

R112, it's her serve. She can also pound the ball. She has pretty easy power. But she's a terrible mover and just an average player when you get her on the run. I don't know why more women on the WTA tour don't work to improve their serves. A good serve would help you beat 90% of the women in the WTA.

Tsitsipas is through in straights. Tsitsipas is super talented. Glad to see he got a straight sets victory against a quality opponent. He really blew that match against Coric at the US Open. I'd like to see him do well here.

by Anonymousreply 118October 1, 2020 4:06 PM

Kevin Anderson shouldn't be allowed to have televised matches. He is too ugly.

by Anonymousreply 119October 1, 2020 5:35 PM

So glad that Khachanov won today. Otherwise, Kyrgios wouldn't have been able to stop himself from tweeting something snarky.

by Anonymousreply 120October 1, 2020 5:37 PM

There are far uglier players on the ATP tour, R119. I'd rather they not televise (or allow) the players who can't leave surly off the court.

by Anonymousreply 121October 1, 2020 5:44 PM

I think conditions this year are good for Tsitsipas. He likes to build points and he is very good at the net.

And if Davidovich was a more consistent player he could give Rublev a good scare, but he tanked the first set when he served for the set and he dissapeared in the second

by Anonymousreply 122October 1, 2020 5:56 PM

R114... plisk-bot is not even the poor man's davenport....

berretini just won! i wish he would go back to wearing the see thru white shorts that he wore at the open 2 years ago ! his light blue bikini underwear shown off for days when those shorts got soaked in sweat! sweet!.. even the commentators were commenting on this and his "cough cough" appeal to the females in the stadium (yeah, only the females! uh huh!)...

by Anonymousreply 132October 1, 2020 11:44 PM

I see a good opportunity for Pironkova who played well at the US Open til she bumped into Serena. Here she gets the walkover and will be fresh in the next round.

by Anonymousreply 136October 2, 2020 12:49 PM

Thiem had a dificult draw, but he is not wasting time on his matches.

I'm sorry for Anisimova, since the death of her father she is having a tough time to win matches

by Anonymousreply 137October 2, 2020 1:40 PM

Anisimova got SMACKED, lmao. Embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 138October 2, 2020 2:14 PM

The Sonego vs. Fritz umpire is also hot. Is he the one we discussed in the last thread?

by Anonymousreply 139October 2, 2020 4:40 PM

The interview with S. Korda was adorable. His admiration for Rafa was very funny. He named his cat after Rafa....we need to see a picture of the cat

by Anonymousreply 140October 2, 2020 4:58 PM

He's closer to 40 than 30, R136, and moving like a moose in the fifth set.

by Anonymousreply 141October 2, 2020 5:03 PM

R141 He gave up..

by Anonymousreply 142October 2, 2020 5:04 PM

he has no chance with Thiem anyway ... french are ridicolous , they are behaving like he won final with nadal.

by Anonymousreply 143October 2, 2020 5:06 PM

Wawrinka won in Prague with whom?

by Anonymousreply 144October 2, 2020 5:08 PM

Maybe he dumbed Mugu

by Anonymousreply 145October 2, 2020 5:55 PM

R143 He is the only french player in the draw.

And of course he is young (and unlike others he is not hyped at all), so they are loving he is getting into fourth round defeating a former champion.

I read that he has good touch and strong mentality in the match

by Anonymousreply 146October 2, 2020 6:03 PM

[quote] Maybe he dumbed Mugu

What’s dumbed?

by Anonymousreply 147October 2, 2020 6:35 PM

Petr Korda was one of the most unfortunate looking tennis players. Luckily his son inherited his mother's looks.

by Anonymousreply 148October 2, 2020 6:45 PM

Stan is Muguruza's beard? Intresting.

by Anonymousreply 149October 2, 2020 6:55 PM

R148 Sebastian is better looking but it's very easy to recognize Petr is his father, he is just like a better looking version of the father.

R149 Stan doesn't beard for anyone. Frankly i never heard anything about Muguruza apart of DL. Well, even Stan had those type of rumours with his very close friendship with Paire, but that's nothing more than wishful thinking

by Anonymousreply 150October 2, 2020 6:58 PM

Why? We talk about one picture

by Anonymousreply 151October 2, 2020 7:09 PM

I’m glad to see Fritz lost.

by Anonymousreply 152October 2, 2020 7:13 PM

Unlike Korda it seems Gaston is not a fan of Rafa, it was questioned about him and he answered how much he admires Kyrgios' game

by Anonymousreply 153October 2, 2020 7:21 PM

That's a bizarre answer, considering that Kyrgios has accomplished more on Twitter than he has in Slams. He's never made it past the quarters, and that was six years ago.

by Anonymousreply 154October 2, 2020 7:34 PM

annoying Trevisan wins again with her screaming. Sakkari blew that match

by Anonymousreply 155October 2, 2020 8:09 PM

R155 Sakkari has the game but in my oppinion she lacks the mentality.

Trevisan has a nice story of overcoming adversity behind. She was a promising junior, his father got ill and he mother abandonned the family. She suffered from anorexia and had to give up on being a tennis player.

Then she got a job as a tennis teacher and she decided to try again

by Anonymousreply 162October 3, 2020 10:33 AM

Altmaier Vs Berrettini is a nice visual treat, I have to say.

by Anonymousreply 163October 3, 2020 10:39 AM

PCB is so cute.

by Anonymousreply 164October 3, 2020 10:46 AM

And who'd athunk Altmaier and Korda for the 4th round?

by Anonymousreply 165October 3, 2020 11:27 AM

Or 3rd.

by Anonymousreply 166October 3, 2020 11:28 AM

arrivederci lovely Matteo :-(

by Anonymousreply 167October 3, 2020 11:28 AM

It's not that rare that a random player (and even more someone who was a top junior like Korda) reach the third or fourth round

by Anonymousreply 168October 3, 2020 11:42 AM

PCB bulging merrily in white shorts. Hopefully we'll be treated to a 4th set.

by Anonymousreply 169October 3, 2020 11:46 AM

Granted, but who'd actually picked them for the 4th was my point. Not rare, just unlikely.

by Anonymousreply 170October 3, 2020 11:47 AM

Berettini's game was unwatchable today

by Anonymousreply 171October 3, 2020 11:59 AM

I thought Berrettini would do better....he has been another disappointment.

by Anonymousreply 172October 3, 2020 12:20 PM

I know Burel is very young, but she is going to learn the hard way what happens to players who miss their opportunities again and again

by Anonymousreply 173October 3, 2020 12:23 PM

Altmaier sometimes shares a room with Wawrinka...

by Anonymousreply 174October 3, 2020 1:55 PM

Great comeback for Kvitova. And coming up soon - DL fave Danielle Collins! Get ready gays!!

by Anonymousreply 175October 3, 2020 4:06 PM

by Anonymousreply 181October 3, 2020 6:40 PM

Muguruza looks like monkey

by Anonymousreply 182October 3, 2020 6:50 PM

Collins has the worst case of rbf on the tour.

by Anonymousreply 183October 3, 2020 6:53 PM

R181 Bedene and Carballes Baena who were being rolled over by Tsitsipas and Dimitrov

by Anonymousreply 184October 3, 2020 7:02 PM

R182 Well, you are clearly very gay

R181 Bedene retired against Tsitsipas (he lost two sets and he was losing 31 in the third, and Roberto Carballés retired against Dimintrov after losing the first two sets.

Badosa finally started to live to her early hype and defeated Ostapenko.

There are a lot of no names alive in the women's draw

by Anonymousreply 185October 3, 2020 7:03 PM

R185 No, I'm not gay. She has manly jaw

by Anonymousreply 186October 3, 2020 7:06 PM

Muguruza is very attractive and can even communicate coherently in English.

by Anonymousreply 187October 3, 2020 7:14 PM

by Anonymousreply 189October 3, 2020 7:20 PM

They can't.

by Anonymousreply 190October 3, 2020 7:21 PM

British Eurosport commentator confused Conchita Martinez with Nicolas Almagro today.

by Anonymousreply 191October 3, 2020 7:32 PM

I think that Tsitsy is going to do his YouTube travel vlog for the tennis channel. Not a commentator.

by Anonymousreply 192October 3, 2020 7:37 PM

Collins behaves like such an uber hag it's difficult to root for her.

by Anonymousreply 193October 3, 2020 7:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 194October 3, 2020 7:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 195October 3, 2020 7:44 PM

[quote] Collins behaves like such an uber hag it's difficult to root for her.

[quote] Collins screams almost as much as Trevisan

I don't watch her matches. She is so grating.

by Anonymousreply 196October 3, 2020 7:47 PM

R186 Yes, you are very gay. I didn't met a straight guy who complain about Muguruza's looks. And she must be one of the most inteligent players

by Anonymousreply 197October 3, 2020 7:51 PM

R197 Are you serious? Because you are gay you don't meet many straight guys, I suppose. . For many men she is too big at first place and has manly face. . I watch tennis along with them so I know their opinions. Chill out.

by Anonymousreply 198October 3, 2020 7:57 PM

R198 Most of my friends are straight, they couldn't care less about those picky things, she is hot, period

by Anonymousreply 199October 3, 2020 7:58 PM

R199 So you are a lesbian? Tell us you like her and don't persuade us that EVERY guy finds her hot. It is impossible.

by Anonymousreply 200October 3, 2020 8:00 PM

R200 You are such a stereotype. A lot of gay men have straight friends

by Anonymousreply 201October 3, 2020 8:02 PM

R200 Oki, Oki they have. But it is childish to think that my every straigh male friend finds particalar woman hot. He overacts.

Collins is doing better than I thought she would on clay

I do think the roof is helping her

by Anonymousreply 204October 3, 2020 8:09 PM

I think the easy victories against weak players that Nole and Rafa are gettin could end playing against them.

R202 You are very tiresome. You don't like her and it's ok, but pretend she is ugly is simply ridiculous

by Anonymousreply 205October 3, 2020 8:09 PM

R204 Muguruza started the match very well, but they have to stop and Collins was able to get back in the match.

Now Garbiñe is winning easily but that could change in the third set

by Anonymousreply 206October 3, 2020 8:10 PM

R205 You are tiresome and cannot accept other opinion. I said that I find her ugly and you start with" all my straigh male freinds find her hot so you must be homo." But you are homo too. lol Grow up.

by Anonymousreply 207October 3, 2020 8:12 PM

I hope this thread gets paywalled quickly after the recent responses.

by Anonymousreply 208October 3, 2020 8:15 PM

I think Berrettini struggled on the slower clay this year. He definitely has a faster court game

by Anonymousreply 209October 3, 2020 8:17 PM

R208 Don't worry, it's over.

R209 Berretini is simply not in good form. He went further on the US Open than i expected. This was going to be a complicated year for him. He came out of nowhere last year and this one he had to defend those points, but the pandemic changed everything.

He has very good serve and forehand but there are too many holes in his game and he needs to improve if he wants to have chances to win a GS one day

by Anonymousreply 210October 3, 2020 8:23 PM

I'm really interested in Zverev vs. Sinner. It would be hilarious if Zverev again lost to a younger player. You know he hates losing to Tsitsipas and Shapovalov

Sinner's been in amazing form but he's facing 1 of the best returners of serve on tour so that will be the test. Once the point starts it's edge to Sinner

by Anonymousreply 211October 3, 2020 8:26 PM

I didnt started it so don't blame me.

by Anonymousreply 212October 3, 2020 8:27 PM

Sinner improved a lot this year (specially given the circumstances) but i don't know if he is there yet to pull a big surprise like that.

He was on the verge of defeating Khachanov on the US Open (without his problems i think he was going to win) but Zverev is a league above Khachanov.

Anyway, i think he could give him a scare

by Anonymousreply 224October 3, 2020 9:16 PM

Is Help the favorite?

by Anonymousreply 225October 3, 2020 9:17 PM

It is WTA. The final will be Iga Swiatek vs Fiona Ferro

by Anonymousreply 226October 3, 2020 9:19 PM

We all know that a Krejcikova vs. Badosa final will really get the fans excited! So compelling.

[quote]British Eurosport commentator confused Conchita Martinez with Nicolas Almagro today

I can see why though

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 232October 4, 2020 7:43 AM

omg Swiatek is destroying Halep

meanwhile Trevisan is up a set on Bertens

If Halep and Bertens go out, that makes Svitolina the clear favorite in this half to reach the final

by Anonymousreply 233October 4, 2020 9:51 AM

Huguruza out, Halep on the verge of elimination and Bertens is losing too.

This could be the GS with the most random winner in a long long time

by Anonymousreply 234October 4, 2020 10:10 AM

WTA is such a joke. None of the top players have consistency.

by Anonymousreply 235October 4, 2020 10:19 AM

The women's field started with 11 slam champs coming in (Serena, Venus, Kerber, Kuznetsova, Azarenka, Kvitova, Muguruza, Halep, Ostapenko, Stephens and Kenin).

Only 3 made it to the 4th round (Halep, Kvitova and Kenin)

now at most, 2 can reach the QF

Svitolina is the only player in the top half to have reached a slam SF

by Anonymousreply 236October 4, 2020 10:22 AM

And Trevisan defeated Bertens (who is a player that never delivers at GS).

I hope Svitolina is able to profit from her draw, but with her game an inspired big hitter could defeat her.

Swiated it was supposed to be one of the new stars, but Trevisan came out of nowhere (the retirement in this case)

by Anonymousreply 237October 4, 2020 10:45 AM

As expected Nadal is having no trouble with Korda (he had a very very easy draw till now).

But Sinner broke Zverev's serve, so probably that'll be a way more interesting match

by Anonymousreply 238October 4, 2020 11:21 AM

And Sinner wins the first set against Zverev

by Anonymousreply 239October 4, 2020 11:52 AM

And Sinner wins the second 63 63

by Anonymousreply 240October 4, 2020 12:27 PM

I think Mugu is cute and apparently fucking Stan Wawrinka...

by Anonymousreply 241October 4, 2020 1:52 PM

I doubt , but we should congratulate her for that? He is a woman beater. He changes vaginas like I change towels. Often.Anyway birds say that Mugu is banging Kokkinakis now. So it is over.

by Anonymousreply 242October 4, 2020 1:57 PM

Zverev lost thanks god. I hate him so much.

by Anonymousreply 243October 4, 2020 2:09 PM

And Sinner just won the match 63 63 46 63

I don't think he'll give Rafa trouble, but next year will be a different story, he is progressing really fast

by Anonymousreply 244October 4, 2020 2:10 PM

Svitolina won easily and her rival will be Podorovska.

Elina has a huge opportunity here

by Anonymousreply 245October 4, 2020 2:10 PM

Svitolina is SO boring. She must win by lulling her opponents to sleep.

by Anonymousreply 246October 4, 2020 2:12 PM

Tennis fans are disgusting. One day they cheer for one player, the other one they are against him because for instance french in on court.

by Anonymousreply 247October 4, 2020 2:44 PM

*french is

by Anonymousreply 248October 4, 2020 2:45 PM

I like Svitolina's game, but if Swiatek plays like he played today Svitolina is going to have a hard time trying to defeat her

by Anonymousreply 249October 4, 2020 2:54 PM

And it's rainning again

by Anonymousreply 250October 4, 2020 3:02 PM

How is that 'disgusting '? It's entirely natural that a crowd at a Grand Slam will root for the home player, especially when he's the underdog. Also tennis fans tend to be a lot more fair and appreciative of good play, no matter the nationality of a player.

by Anonymousreply 251October 4, 2020 3:50 PM

Gaston may even deserve the Arc de Triomphe over Thiem.

Great to see Sinner through over Flopos' collection of unremarkable GS results.

by Anonymousreply 252October 4, 2020 3:52 PM

Who is favorite now that Help is out?

by Anonymousreply 253October 4, 2020 3:55 PM

Zverev said he shouldn't have played because he had fever the day before

by Anonymousreply 254October 4, 2020 4:14 PM

R251 It is stupid because one day they root for you, next one they want you to lose because their country guy plays. I understand it, but that is awful

by Anonymousreply 255October 4, 2020 4:20 PM

It's even less 'stupid' than it is disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 256October 4, 2020 4:58 PM

Example: it Nadal plays Djokovic, I want him to win because I hate Djokovic and I admire Nadal's game. But if Nadal plays Tsonga, I'm rooting for Tsonga because he's the underdog and I love the way his plays. Deal with it. Everyone has their reasons for who they support, and when.

by Anonymousreply 257October 4, 2020 5:01 PM

What happened to SiGnomeA?

by Anonymousreply 258October 4, 2020 5:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 261October 4, 2020 5:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 262October 4, 2020 5:11 PM

French're behaving disrespectful, like south americans

by Anonymousreply 263October 4, 2020 5:15 PM

R260 It is a fact, not a problem.

by Anonymousreply 264October 4, 2020 5:23 PM

I've only seen Garston play 2 matches and he's already (besides zverev) the most annoying player on tour.

by Anonymousreply 265October 4, 2020 5:26 PM

Why, R265?

by Anonymousreply 266October 4, 2020 5:30 PM

Thiem has no patience. I don't know if he is going to lose here (it would be a big big surprise) but that way he won't win against Nadal for sure, or even against Swartzman

by Anonymousreply 267October 4, 2020 5:32 PM

Sinner, Gaston and Altmaier have all impressed at this tournament. Sinner was expected to make some noise but the other 2 have really announced themselves.

Zverev had a fever? and he's negative for coronavirus? wow

by Anonymousreply 270October 4, 2020 5:43 PM

Schwartzman finished off Sonego in 3

by Anonymousreply 271October 4, 2020 5:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 272October 4, 2020 5:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 273October 4, 2020 5:59 PM

Gaston - dropbot

by Anonymousreply 274October 4, 2020 6:10 PM

R257 It IS stupid. Your dumbass way of thinking.

by Anonymousreply 275October 4, 2020 6:24 PM

Gaston hit 26 dropshots in the third and fourth sets alone. If this is sign of smartness because he noticed that Thim is too far away...

by Anonymousreply 276October 4, 2020 6:32 PM

Thiem better be ready, because against Diego is going to be a tough match

by Anonymousreply 277October 4, 2020 6:33 PM

Good victory by Dominic. He should have handled the droppers better(they were not first class , all of them), but Gaston has a weird, trashy style.

by Anonymousreply 278October 4, 2020 6:37 PM

why all the hate for drop shots? If my opponent keeps standing very far back, I'm going to drop shot too. I wish more players would do that against Nadal

drop shots and short angles are the best strategy for those wall huggers like Nadal and Thiem . Trying to hit through them is dumb unless you hit insanely hard

by Anonymousreply 279October 4, 2020 7:19 PM

R279 Nadal and Thiem are asking for it.

Dropshots are very useful but you need to use them well. It's a trend on new players, the ones who are already on the top 100 like Bublik or Davidovich and the ones who are bubbling under like Musetti, Alcaraz or Gaston

by Anonymousreply 280October 4, 2020 7:46 PM

[quote] like Bublik or Davidovich and the ones who are bubbling

Bublik is not bubbling?

by Anonymousreply 281October 4, 2020 7:48 PM

Nadal and Thiem are also bothered by short, wide serves.

Zverev's initial strategy in the US Open final showed how to beat players like Nadal and Thiem.

by Anonymousreply 282October 4, 2020 7:50 PM

I'm still shocked Barty is straight.

She's more butch than half the ATP.

by Anonymousreply 283October 4, 2020 7:56 PM

R281 No, he is already in the top 100

by Anonymousreply 284October 4, 2020 8:06 PM

The curious thing is Thiem used to return to serve way closer to the line not so long ago

by Anonymousreply 285October 4, 2020 8:07 PM

I understand why Thiem stands back as he has a big wind up motion especially on his backhand so it gives him time. Still though, you give up a lot of space for your opponent to go for short and wide angles as well as drop shots.

Nadal's backhand is much more compact but of course his forehand has a big motion

by Anonymousreply 286October 4, 2020 8:13 PM

R242 Who the fuck is Kokkinakis?

Oh, come on, you have to love R292's spirit.

by Anonymousreply 294October 4, 2020 11:02 PM

The bromance between Sebas and Rafa is one for the ages. On Twitter he was asking fans to send him and thanked everyone and when Roland Garros official twitter had the video of Rafa applauding his adversary....his answer: two hearts. Come on, completely adorable.

Two hearts that beat as one?

by Anonymousreply 296October 5, 2020 12:13 AM

Nothing wrong with a little man-crush! At least he picked a specimen.

by Anonymousreply 297October 5, 2020 12:16 AM

He picked a specimen who is an expert at picking...his ass.

by Anonymousreply 298October 5, 2020 12:21 AM

And he asked Nadal to sign one of his T-shirts and posted on IG....

Kenin must be the most sour player on tour...she always looks miserable, like she wants to burst into tears any minute.

I watched her match last year at the FO when she beat Serena and she still looked miserable after she won.

by Anonymousreply 301October 5, 2020 12:44 AM

R300 maybe cuz daddy got banned for steroids lol

by Anonymousreply 302October 5, 2020 12:46 AM

[quote] I watched her match last year at the FO when she beat Serena and she still looked miserable after she won.

Um, like, does anyone, like remember, kinda, how I like looked after I won the US Open, um right?

by Anonymousreply 303October 5, 2020 12:54 AM

So Zverev had a fever before the match and didn't tell anyone. How unlikable can this fucking cunt be?

by Anonymousreply 304October 5, 2020 1:01 AM

ATP should add a new year-end award, R304.

by Anonymousreply 305October 5, 2020 1:06 AM

I was saying the same thing to someone yesterday r301. She always looks on the verge of tears. Does she act that way playing doubles? I’ve never watched her play a doubles match.

by Anonymousreply 306October 5, 2020 2:45 AM

Kenin looked pretty happy after her doubles win with Mattek-Sands.

OK see this is why the pre-tournament rules at RG were heavily scrutinized. Every 5 days a test? Not nearly enough! Zverev might have it and therefore could have passed it on to numerous people from Cecchinato to Sinner to the chair umpire, line umpires, ball kids, tournament execs, other players....

he shouldn't have played if he was that sick or he should have requested a test the first day he felt sick

by Anonymousreply 309October 5, 2020 4:40 AM

Fucsovics needs to destroy my ass.

by Anonymousreply 310October 5, 2020 10:11 AM

Do you know who didn't found Korda adorable? you are right, Kyrgios. Kyrgios slammed him for gushing for Rafa, and said that explains the result (which is not true because Rafa is destroying opponents for more than a decade).

French media went crazy about Gaston, and Federer said they tend to idolize their players too soon and putting too much pressure on them which is completely true. Spanish media was way more moderate on Nadal than the french were on Gasquet (unfortunately i think Richard's personality played against him).

Zverev is an idiot. Sinner defeated him clearly. He says he didn't play but that's not true, his rival was simply better yesterday

by Anonymousreply 311October 5, 2020 2:03 PM

Well R310, he has plenty of time now....he lost.

by Anonymousreply 312October 5, 2020 2:06 PM

Djoko , another dropshot clown

by Anonymousreply 313October 5, 2020 2:07 PM

K. Hemsworth

by Anonymousreply 314October 5, 2020 2:27 PM

Djoko is incredible but he makes it very difficult to root for him.

by Anonymousreply 315October 5, 2020 3:28 PM

Sebastian Korda is also a Trumpette

by Anonymousreply 316October 5, 2020 3:59 PM

FFS! Is there any American (Male) I can like without finding this shit out. Ugh! Trump ruins everything...

by Anonymousreply 317October 5, 2020 4:02 PM

Tennis is still a rich man's sport. Of course they are all Trump-tards. Tiafoe, the son of African immigrants, might be the only one who isn't but I actually have no idea.

by Anonymousreply 318October 5, 2020 4:06 PM

Where is young Grigor staying? I’d like to console him.

by Anonymousreply 319October 5, 2020 4:08 PM

Djokovic playing with fire by shaking hands at the net.

by Anonymousreply 320October 5, 2020 4:18 PM

r320 Yes, so dangerous.

by Anonymousreply 321October 5, 2020 4:23 PM

Catch coronavirus and die, R321.

by Anonymousreply 322October 5, 2020 4:24 PM

I doubt very much that Rubin, Mmoh, Tiafoe, Escobedo, Eubanks, and some others are in the Trump camp. Nicole Gibbs certainly isn't.

by Anonymousreply 323October 5, 2020 4:26 PM

Sebas Korda...a trumpette? Vomit.

by Anonymousreply 324October 5, 2020 4:30 PM

Zverev should be banned from the sport of Tennis.

First because of that shitshow at the US Open final and this time for playing while he was sick at the French Open.

He is supposed to report any symptoms. I hate this fuckard.

by Anonymousreply 325October 5, 2020 4:32 PM

A. Zverev

by Anonymousreply 326October 5, 2020 4:41 PM

If Zverev had won, we'd still not know.

by Anonymousreply 327October 5, 2020 4:44 PM

Nole already had the virus...he has antibodies...although studies have found that the they fade after 3 months

by Anonymousreply 328October 5, 2020 4:47 PM

by Anonymousreply 330October 5, 2020 5:10 PM

Ferro team or Ferrer team?

by Anonymousreply 331October 5, 2020 5:11 PM

[quote]Djoko , another dropshot clown

he saw the outpouring of love Gaston received from the French, and mistakenly thinks he can get it too if he throws in a lot of drop shots

by Anonymousreply 332October 5, 2020 5:15 PM

Haha probably true ^^^

These eastern Euros love a stongman dictator type..it makes them all puffy down there.

by Anonymousreply 333October 5, 2020 5:42 PM

R310 he's mine bitch back off.

by Anonymousreply 334October 5, 2020 5:47 PM

Is Fritz a Trumper? I thought maybe he wasn't?

by Anonymousreply 335October 5, 2020 6:10 PM

I am afraid that Kenin might win. i don't like her at all, but she is a fighter. Her attitude needs to change and her grandfather daddy needs to go.

by Anonymousreply 336October 5, 2020 6:12 PM

Her attitude is awful, the fact that the crowd in Australia clearly supported all his rivals make me thinks she is not loved, but she is determined, i really like how she gets the best of herself on GS

by Anonymousreply 337October 5, 2020 6:36 PM

are there roofs on some other courts? Why are there other matches going on now but the Jabeur-Collins match had to be held off until tomorrow?

by Anonymousreply 338October 5, 2020 6:39 PM

The juniors are playing, so i don't understand it

by Anonymousreply 339October 5, 2020 6:40 PM

The only roof is on Chatrier, I think there might be one in Lenglen soon.

by Anonymousreply 340October 5, 2020 6:45 PM

The only roof is on Chatrier, I think there might be one in Lenglen soon.

by Anonymousreply 341October 5, 2020 6:45 PM

TeamCarreñoBulger or TeamButtMeier?

by Anonymousreply 342October 5, 2020 6:58 PM

The problem is that the last couple Nadal Sinner most likely , will be not able to play.

by Anonymousreply 343October 5, 2020 6:59 PM

Yes, but the juniors are still playing on the other courts.

And Mayot is losing, poor french they can't win not even having the number one junior

by Anonymousreply 344October 5, 2020 7:05 PM

PCB team or DA team?
