a bunch of male upsets so far quite surprising
I know Fognini had his ankles operated on recently but losing to Kukushkin is a shock on clay
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 29, 2020 6:02 AM |
lmfao Pospisil is kind of dumb. He thinks he can challenge Berrettini's forehand and is getting killed. Pospisil hits hard but Berrettini's forehand is even bigger. He's not making him work on the backhand. Berrettini is playing well but Pospisil has poor tactics and he can't even handle Berrettini's slice backhand

Mladenovic collpased from 51 to 57 36
She had 7 set points. However, on the first one, she actually won the point but a bad call by the umpire saved Siegmund. On replay Mladenovic's drop shot hit the ground twice before Siegmund got it

I personally hate the expression “it is what it is”, but it sounded even more irksome when Djokovic used it in an interview on Eurosport where he was asked about the very slow courts and heavy balls at the FO.

Popsicle melted
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 29, 2020 5:26 PM |
It seems Tsitsipas woke up. Hopefully it won't be too late.
Nole is the big favourite in that part of the draw but at least we deserve a little fight and we won't get that if all players who could give him a scare lose in the first round
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 29, 2020 5:37 PM |
Tsitsipas is going the way of Alexander Zverev these days, getting himself into trouble in early rounds at Slams, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory like he did at the US Open. Very disappointing. I wonder if this next generation coming up (e.g., Sinner) will go after it more and have fewer mental lapses?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 29, 2020 5:50 PM |
No, his ways are different.
Zverev used to have complications from the very first round, just to lose at the third (all tough matches). Stefanos use to win easily the first two rounds but he ends losing at the first complicated match
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 29, 2020 5:57 PM |
Tsitsipas is wasting too many break points and he is going to regret it
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 29, 2020 6:00 PM |

Wow, Azarenka got pummeled. Did anyone see that match? Good win for Petr Korda's son taking out Isner. He won 3 sets to 1, and in the 3 he won he must have at least broken once per set based on the score. That's well done against serve-bot Isner. Even Rafa went to tiebreaks with Isner at RG! Based on Anisimova's scores so far, she either must be playing well or her opponents have sucked ass. She's got Halep next, though. I don't see Anisimova getting through that one, but it's the WTA so you never know!
by Anonymous | reply 61 | September 30, 2020 6:34 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 64 | September 30, 2020 7:00 PM |
France is able to produce good juniors almost every year but most of them have a hard time on the pro tour. And of course they put so much pressure on the most promising ones that they end underachiving (Gasquet was supposed to be Nadal's biggest rival for the future when they both reached the top 100).
But only one french on third round is a very bad result
by Anonymous | reply 65 | September 30, 2020 7:06 PM |

I'm surprised how well Anisimova is doing.
Last year this was the tournament she really showed her potential (she was not that far from defeating Barty). If she is inspired it could be a tough match for Halep
by Anonymous | reply 68 | September 30, 2020 7:19 PM |
I like that umpire! She's the one who looks a little like a grown-up Ariana Grande with the high pony action. She's attractive.
Speaking of that, has the hot male umpire who was called out earlier in the thread been sighted?

by Anonymous | reply 71 | September 30, 2020 7:28 PM |
It's a weird year, but frankly i expected better from Gauff at the US Open and here.
If she doesn't solve her serve problem she could be the next Michelle Larcher de Brito or Sesil Karatancheva (both very precocious but with lackluster careers because the obvious holes in their games)

by Anonymous | reply 88 | September 30, 2020 10:37 PM |
Serena shouldn't retire. She's injured and she'll recover. The WTA is a huge mess and no one is really dominating. If she can't make the semis (uninjured) then yeah, retire.
Venus is the one who needs to retire. Andy Murray taking wild card spots from younger players is shameful and he needs to go away again, permanently.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | September 30, 2020 11:07 PM |
Rafa doesn't have chest hair, it's more like he has chest WISPS of hair... federer is the one who has the really hairy chest (and stomach)
strange how you would think he Nadal would have super ripped abs because of the style he plays and fitness he has to be in, but he doesn't, he even has bit of love handles going on....muscular arms only when they are working but at rest, nothing as well....

This was a point he pushed on Khachanov in response after the jibe about 'sitting at home' from the Russian.
He wrote back: 'So you think what the players did during this pandemic was smart? I'd love to have an intellectual conversation with you but I'm not sure it would go further than how hard you could hit a ball. I've simply been holding people accountable.'
'And next time before talking about my intellect read at least a few books , instead or playing video games whole day long,' Khachanov snapped back.
Kyrgios pointed to his charity work before labelling Khachanov an 'absolute pelican'.
'I've also been feeding the hungry, helping open up new facilities for kids to get active,' he tweeted. 'But way to do your research you absolute pelican.'
The pair's fraught exchange ended with Khachanov insisting he 'didn't go personal' against the Australian and that it was Kyrgios who 'wants a fight'.
'Again I didn't go personal against you. You are the one who wants a fight,' he said. 'If you don't get what I was trying to say, then may be you are 'too smart' to understand that. Enjoy your days at home.'
by Anonymous | reply 95 | October 1, 2020 4:50 AM |

Love that former champ Ostopenko took out Pliskbot. Sloane Stephens is down a set and a break. Her inconsistency issues continue. Kenin won her match in 3 sets. Danielle Collins took out her opponent in straights, and her scores have been impressive like Anisimova's have been. The two of them are either playing really well or their opponents have been playing poorly.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | October 1, 2020 1:28 PM |
R104, I was wondering the same thing about Anisimova and Collins. I don't think of either of them as being particularly good on clay (especially Collins), but I hadn't seen any of their matches so I'm curious as to how well they're really playing.

R112, it's her serve. She can also pound the ball. She has pretty easy power. But she's a terrible mover and just an average player when you get her on the run. I don't know why more women on the WTA tour don't work to improve their serves. A good serve would help you beat 90% of the women in the WTA.

I think conditions this year are good for Tsitsipas. He likes to build points and he is very good at the net.

Thiem had a dificult draw, but he is not wasting time on his matches.
I'm sorry for Anisimova, since the death of her father she is having a tough time to win matches
by Anonymous | reply 137 | October 2, 2020 1:40 PM |
Anisimova got SMACKED, lmao. Embarrassing.

The Sonego vs. Fritz umpire is also hot. Is he the one we discussed in the last thread?
by Anonymous | reply 139 | October 2, 2020 4:40 PM |
The interview with S. Korda was adorable. His admiration for Rafa was very funny. He named his cat after Rafa....we need to see a picture of the cat
by Anonymous | reply 140 | October 2, 2020 4:58 PM |
He's closer to 40 than 30, R136, and moving like a moose in the fifth set.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | October 2, 2020 5:03 PM |
R141 He gave up..
by Anonymous | reply 142 | October 2, 2020 5:04 PM |
he has no chance with Thiem anyway ... french are ridicolous , they are behaving like he won final with nadal.

Wawrinka won in Prague with whom?
by Anonymous | reply 144 | October 2, 2020 5:08 PM |
Maybe he dumbed Mugu
by Anonymous | reply 145 | October 2, 2020 5:55 PM |
R143 He is the only french player in the draw.
And of course he is young (and unlike others he is not hyped at all), so they are loving he is getting into fourth round defeating a former champion.
I read that he has good touch and strong mentality in the match

by Anonymous | reply 147 | October 2, 2020 6:35 PM |
Petr Korda was one of the most unfortunate looking tennis players. Luckily his son inherited his mother's looks.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | October 2, 2020 6:45 PM |
Stan is Muguruza's beard? Intresting.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | October 2, 2020 6:55 PM |
R148 Sebastian is better looking but it's very easy to recognize Petr is his father, he is just like a better looking version of the father.
R149 Stan doesn't beard for anyone. Frankly i never heard anything about Muguruza apart of DL. Well, even Stan had those type of rumours with his very close friendship with Paire, but that's nothing more than wishful thinking
by Anonymous | reply 150 | October 2, 2020 6:58 PM |
Why? We talk about one picture
by Anonymous | reply 151 | October 2, 2020 7:09 PM |
I’m glad to see Fritz lost.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | October 2, 2020 7:13 PM |
Unlike Korda it seems Gaston is not a fan of Rafa, it was questioned about him and he answered how much he admires Kyrgios' game
by Anonymous | reply 153 | October 2, 2020 7:21 PM |
That's a bizarre answer, considering that Kyrgios has accomplished more on Twitter than he has in Slams. He's never made it past the quarters, and that was six years ago.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | October 2, 2020 7:34 PM |
annoying Trevisan wins again with her screaming. Sakkari blew that match

by Anonymous | reply 161 | October 3, 2020 12:04 AM |
R155 Sakkari has the game but in my oppinion she lacks the mentality.
Trevisan has a nice story of overcoming adversity behind. She was a promising junior, his father got ill and he mother abandonned the family. She suffered from anorexia and had to give up on being a tennis player.
Then she got a job as a tennis teacher and she decided to try again
by Anonymous | reply 162 | October 3, 2020 10:33 AM |
Altmaier Vs Berrettini is a nice visual treat, I have to say.

Or 3rd.

arrivederci lovely Matteo :-(
by Anonymous | reply 167 | October 3, 2020 11:28 AM |
It's not that rare that a random player (and even more someone who was a top junior like Korda) reach the third or fourth round
by Anonymous | reply 168 | October 3, 2020 11:42 AM |
PCB bulging merrily in white shorts. Hopefully we'll be treated to a 4th set.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | October 3, 2020 11:46 AM |
Granted, but who'd actually picked them for the 4th was my point. Not rare, just unlikely.

Berettini's game was unwatchable today
by Anonymous | reply 171 | October 3, 2020 11:59 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 184 | October 3, 2020 7:02 PM |
R182 Well, you are clearly very gay
R181 Bedene retired against Tsitsipas (he lost two sets and he was losing 31 in the third, and Roberto Carballés retired against Dimintrov after losing the first two sets.
Badosa finally started to live to her early hype and defeated Ostapenko.
There are a lot of no names alive in the women's draw

R186 Yes, you are very gay. I didn't met a straight guy who complain about Muguruza's looks. And she must be one of the most inteligent players
by Anonymous | reply 197 | October 3, 2020 7:51 PM |
R197 Are you serious? Because you are gay you don't meet many straight guys, I suppose. . For many men she is too big at first place and has manly face. . I watch tennis along with them so I know their opinions. Chill out.
by Anonymous | reply 198 | October 3, 2020 7:57 PM |
R198 Most of my friends are straight, they couldn't care less about those picky things, she is hot, period
by Anonymous | reply 199 | October 3, 2020 7:58 PM |
R199 So you are a lesbian? Tell us you like her and don't persuade us that EVERY guy finds her hot. It is impossible.

R200 You are such a stereotype. A lot of gay men have straight friends
by Anonymous | reply 201 | October 3, 2020 8:02 PM |

Collins is doing better than I thought she would on clay
I do think the roof is helping her
by Anonymous | reply 204 | October 3, 2020 8:09 PM |
I think the easy victories against weak players that Nole and Rafa are gettin could end playing against them.
R202 You are very tiresome. You don't like her and it's ok, but pretend she is ugly is simply ridiculous
by Anonymous | reply 205 | October 3, 2020 8:09 PM |
R204 Muguruza started the match very well, but they have to stop and Collins was able to get back in the match.
Now Garbiñe is winning easily but that could change in the third set
by Anonymous | reply 206 | October 3, 2020 8:10 PM |
R205 You are tiresome and cannot accept other opinion. I said that I find her ugly and you start with" all my straigh male freinds find her hot so you must be homo." But you are homo too. lol Grow up.

by Anonymous | reply 208 | October 3, 2020 8:15 PM |
I think Berrettini struggled on the slower clay this year. He definitely has a faster court game
by Anonymous | reply 209 | October 3, 2020 8:17 PM |
R208 Don't worry, it's over.
R209 Berretini is simply not in good form. He went further on the US Open than i expected. This was going to be a complicated year for him. He came out of nowhere last year and this one he had to defend those points, but the pandemic changed everything.
He has very good serve and forehand but there are too many holes in his game and he needs to improve if he wants to have chances to win a GS one day
by Anonymous | reply 210 | October 3, 2020 8:23 PM |
I'm really interested in Zverev vs. Sinner. It would be hilarious if Zverev again lost to a younger player. You know he hates losing to Tsitsipas and Shapovalov
Sinner's been in amazing form but he's facing 1 of the best returners of serve on tour so that will be the test. Once the point starts it's edge to Sinner
by Anonymous | reply 211 | October 3, 2020 8:26 PM |
I didnt started it so don't blame me.
by Anonymous | reply 212 | October 3, 2020 8:27 PM |
Sinner improved a lot this year (specially given the circumstances) but i don't know if he is there yet to pull a big surprise like that.
He was on the verge of defeating Khachanov on the US Open (without his problems i think he was going to win) but Zverev is a league above Khachanov.
Anyway, i think he could give him a scare

If Halep and Bertens go out, that makes Svitolina the clear favorite in this half to reach the final
by Anonymous | reply 233 | October 4, 2020 9:51 AM |
Huguruza out, Halep on the verge of elimination and Bertens is losing too.
This could be the GS with the most random winner in a long long time

WTA is such a joke. None of the top players have consistency.
by Anonymous | reply 235 | October 4, 2020 10:19 AM |
The women's field started with 11 slam champs coming in (Serena, Venus, Kerber, Kuznetsova, Azarenka, Kvitova, Muguruza, Halep, Ostapenko, Stephens and Kenin).
Only 3 made it to the 4th round (Halep, Kvitova and Kenin)
now at most, 2 can reach the QF
Svitolina is the only player in the top half to have reached a slam SF
by Anonymous | reply 236 | October 4, 2020 10:22 AM |
And Trevisan defeated Bertens (who is a player that never delivers at GS).
I hope Svitolina is able to profit from her draw, but with her game an inspired big hitter could defeat her.
Swiated it was supposed to be one of the new stars, but Trevisan came out of nowhere (the retirement in this case)
by Anonymous | reply 237 | October 4, 2020 10:45 AM |
As expected Nadal is having no trouble with Korda (he had a very very easy draw till now).
But Sinner broke Zverev's serve, so probably that'll be a way more interesting match

by Anonymous | reply 250 | October 4, 2020 3:02 PM |
How is that 'disgusting '? It's entirely natural that a crowd at a Grand Slam will root for the home player, especially when he's the underdog. Also tennis fans tend to be a lot more fair and appreciative of good play, no matter the nationality of a player.
by Anonymous | reply 251 | October 4, 2020 3:50 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 256 | October 4, 2020 4:58 PM |
Example: it Nadal plays Djokovic, I want him to win because I hate Djokovic and I admire Nadal's game. But if Nadal plays Tsonga, I'm rooting for Tsonga because he's the underdog and I love the way his plays. Deal with it. Everyone has their reasons for who they support, and when.

Thiem better be ready, because against Diego is going to be a tough match
by Anonymous | reply 277 | October 4, 2020 6:33 PM |
Good victory by Dominic. He should have handled the droppers better(they were not first class , all of them), but Gaston has a weird, trashy style.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | October 4, 2020 6:37 PM |
why all the hate for drop shots? If my opponent keeps standing very far back, I'm going to drop shot too. I wish more players would do that against Nadal
drop shots and short angles are the best strategy for those wall huggers like Nadal and Thiem . Trying to hit through them is dumb unless you hit insanely hard
by Anonymous | reply 279 | October 4, 2020 7:19 PM |
R279 Nadal and Thiem are asking for it.
Dropshots are very useful but you need to use them well. It's a trend on new players, the ones who are already on the top 100 like Bublik or Davidovich and the ones who are bubbling under like Musetti, Alcaraz or Gaston
by Anonymous | reply 280 | October 4, 2020 7:46 PM |

Nadal and Thiem are also bothered by short, wide serves.
Zverev's initial strategy in the US Open final showed how to beat players like Nadal and Thiem.

The curious thing is Thiem used to return to serve way closer to the line not so long ago
by Anonymous | reply 285 | October 4, 2020 8:07 PM |
I understand why Thiem stands back as he has a big wind up motion especially on his backhand so it gives him time. Still though, you give up a lot of space for your opponent to go for short and wide angles as well as drop shots.
Nadal's backhand is much more compact but of course his forehand has a big motion

R242 Who the fuck is Kokkinakis?
by Anonymous | reply 287 | October 4, 2020 8:48 PM |
R287, he’s a symptom of Kyrgios’s bad behavior. See this explanation:
by Anonymous | reply 288 | October 4, 2020 9:19 PM |
Is Kyrgios mentally-ill?
by Anonymous | reply 290 | October 4, 2020 10:07 PM |
Oui.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | October 4, 2020 10:09 PM |
Its the French Open and I've fallen in love with Rafa all over again.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | October 4, 2020 10:56 PM |
Fall in love with the apostrophe.
by Anonymous | reply 293 | October 4, 2020 10:57 PM |
Oh, come on, you have to love R292's spirit.
by Anonymous | reply 294 | October 4, 2020 11:02 PM |
The bromance between Sebas and Rafa is one for the ages. On Twitter he was asking fans to send him and thanked everyone and when Roland Garros official twitter had the video of Rafa applauding his adversary....his answer: two hearts. Come on, completely adorable.
by Anonymous | reply 295 | October 4, 2020 11:59 PM |
Two hearts that beat as one?
by Anonymous | reply 296 | October 5, 2020 12:13 AM |
Nothing wrong with a little man-crush! At least he picked a specimen.
by Anonymous | reply 297 | October 5, 2020 12:16 AM |
He picked a specimen who is an expert at picking...his ass.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | October 5, 2020 12:21 AM |
And he asked Nadal to sign one of his T-shirts and posted on IG....
by Anonymous | reply 299 | October 5, 2020 12:23 AM |
I wonder why he doesn't idolize his father?
by Anonymous | reply 300 | October 5, 2020 12:27 AM |
Kenin must be the most sour player on tour...she always looks miserable, like she wants to burst into tears any minute.
I watched her match last year at the FO when she beat Serena and she still looked miserable after she won.
by Anonymous | reply 301 | October 5, 2020 12:44 AM |
R300 maybe cuz daddy got banned for steroids lol

Um, like, does anyone, like remember, kinda, how I like looked after I won the US Open, um right?
by Anonymous | reply 303 | October 5, 2020 12:54 AM |
So Zverev had a fever before the match and didn't tell anyone. How unlikable can this fucking cunt be?
by Anonymous | reply 304 | October 5, 2020 1:01 AM |
ATP should add a new year-end award, R304.
by Anonymous | reply 305 | October 5, 2020 1:06 AM |
I was saying the same thing to someone yesterday r301. She always looks on the verge of tears. Does she act that way playing doubles? I’ve never watched her play a doubles match.
by Anonymous | reply 306 | October 5, 2020 2:45 AM |
Kenin looked pretty happy after her doubles win with Mattek-Sands.

OK see this is why the pre-tournament rules at RG were heavily scrutinized. Every 5 days a test? Not nearly enough! Zverev might have it and therefore could have passed it on to numerous people from Cecchinato to Sinner to the chair umpire, line umpires, ball kids, tournament execs, other players....
he shouldn't have played if he was that sick or he should have requested a test the first day he felt sick
by Anonymous | reply 309 | October 5, 2020 4:40 AM |
Fucsovics needs to destroy my ass.
by Anonymous | reply 310 | October 5, 2020 10:11 AM |
Do you know who didn't found Korda adorable? you are right, Kyrgios. Kyrgios slammed him for gushing for Rafa, and said that explains the result (which is not true because Rafa is destroying opponents for more than a decade).
French media went crazy about Gaston, and Federer said they tend to idolize their players too soon and putting too much pressure on them which is completely true. Spanish media was way more moderate on Nadal than the french were on Gasquet (unfortunately i think Richard's personality played against him).
Zverev is an idiot. Sinner defeated him clearly. He says he didn't play but that's not true, his rival was simply better yesterday
by Anonymous | reply 311 | October 5, 2020 2:03 PM |
Well R310, he has plenty of time now....he lost.

Djoko is incredible but he makes it very difficult to root for him.

FFS! Is there any American (Male) I can like without finding this shit out. Ugh! Trump ruins everything...
by Anonymous | reply 317 | October 5, 2020 4:02 PM |
Tennis is still a rich man's sport. Of course they are all Trump-tards. Tiafoe, the son of African immigrants, might be the only one who isn't but I actually have no idea.

by Anonymous | reply 322 | October 5, 2020 4:24 PM |
I doubt very much that Rubin, Mmoh, Tiafoe, Escobedo, Eubanks, and some others are in the Trump camp. Nicole Gibbs certainly isn't.
by Anonymous | reply 323 | October 5, 2020 4:26 PM |
Sebas Korda...a trumpette? Vomit.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | October 5, 2020 4:30 PM |
Zverev should be banned from the sport of Tennis.
First because of that shitshow at the US Open final and this time for playing while he was sick at the French Open.
He is supposed to report any symptoms. I hate this fuckard.
by Anonymous | reply 325 | October 5, 2020 4:32 PM |
A. Zverev
by Anonymous | reply 326 | October 5, 2020 4:41 PM |
If Zverev had won, we'd still not know.
by Anonymous | reply 327 | October 5, 2020 4:44 PM |

he saw the outpouring of love Gaston received from the French, and mistakenly thinks he can get it too if he throws in a lot of drop shots

by Anonymous | reply 335 | October 5, 2020 6:10 PM |
I am afraid that Kenin might win. i don't like her at all, but she is a fighter. Her attitude needs to change and her grandfather daddy needs to go.
by Anonymous | reply 336 | October 5, 2020 6:12 PM |
Her attitude is awful, the fact that the crowd in Australia clearly supported all his rivals make me thinks she is not loved, but she is determined, i really like how she gets the best of herself on GS
by Anonymous | reply 337 | October 5, 2020 6:36 PM |
are there roofs on some other courts? Why are there other matches going on now but the Jabeur-Collins match had to be held off until tomorrow?
by Anonymous | reply 338 | October 5, 2020 6:39 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 339 | October 5, 2020 6:40 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 343 | October 5, 2020 6:59 PM |
Yes, but the juniors are still playing on the other courts.
And Mayot is losing, poor french they can't win not even having the number one junior
