plenty of surprising results so far, especially in the women's draw. Most of the men's favorites to win still in the tournament

PCB team now and forever, but Daniel Altmaier is cute.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 5, 2020 7:44 PM |
Daniel Altmaier is very cocky, isn't she? Bratty to the max.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 5, 2020 7:55 PM |
I've never seen Altmaier before RG
When I was following the qualifying matches he wasn't 1 of the ones I expected to qualify since I'd never seen him play
he is flashy though. Great backhand

Zverev tested negative. it is a cold.
I wouldn't surprise if he didn't have anything and it was just an excuse for his defeat
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 5, 2020 8:49 PM |
a mere cold? I didn't know you could get fevers with colds. Flu maybe...
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 5, 2020 10:00 PM |
“I received the result today. It’s negative. I don’t have COVID-19,” Zverev, who lost in fourth set to Italian Jannik Sinner, told Eurosport on Monday.
“I’ve been better. I have a cold. You can also have it during the COVID-19 period. We’ve been playing at eight degrees and drizzle for two weeks.
“It is normal that the body is tired. I haven’t had a real break after the U.S. Open either. This is my typical cold. I know it already. I have a bit of a sore throat, then a cold and my nose is full followed at night by fever maybe. The fever was 37.6 (Celsius).”
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 5, 2020 10:18 PM |
37.6C isn't a fever.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 5, 2020 10:25 PM |
I hope 1 of the young guys wins a slam before Zverev. He'd HATE that. He wants to the first since he's been hyped up as the next coming for years

Zverev thinks he is Marat Safin but he doesn't even have 1/8 of the charm of Ernst Gulbis. I hope Tsitsipas and the Russians all win a GS before him.

catching some of the Tsitsipas Dimitrov match now. It was a fun match overall. Tsitsipas just hits harder and is more consistent but they have similar games. Dimitrov moves a bit better
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 6, 2020 1:01 AM |
Dimitrov's problem is that while his 1HBH might look lovely, it's not actually very good.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 6, 2020 1:04 AM |
Lol, zverev is dumber than he looks, doesn't even know normal body temps!

I’s know normul body temps.

So Nadal vs. Sinner is the last match of the day. They also have to wait an extra match since Jabeur-Collins was held over and will start at 11. I wonder if Sinner can keep his momentum. I'd love it if he can cause a historic upset but I'm not sure he's consistent enough. The key of course will be in how he returns Nadal's serve.

Collins is the obnoxious female player ever.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 6, 2020 1:30 PM |
If Trevisan defeats Swiatek this could be the most random semifinal at a GS ever. Podorowska is 131 and Trevisan is 159.
It's curious that reinvindications at equal pay are peaking at the totally wrong moment.
And Serena must be mad, a barely healthy Serena could have won this without hesitation
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 6, 2020 1:46 PM |
And by now it's pretty clear Svitolina is not going to win a GS in her life
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 6, 2020 2:07 PM |
[quote]And Serena must be mad, a barely healthy Serena could have won this without hesitation
Not really.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 6, 2020 2:10 PM |
Nobody on the draw right now could defeat a good Serena on clay.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 6, 2020 2:13 PM |
R37 is posting from 2005.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 6, 2020 2:14 PM |
R37 Kvitova or Kenin could
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 6, 2020 2:18 PM |
No.
Serena was on the US Open semifinals, on her part of the draw the semifinalist is Podorowska. I'm sorry but not even in her wildest dreams Podorowska could defeat a Serena in decent form.
The other two are Trevisan and Swiatek. The polish is a good prospect of player but i don't know how is she going to play at this stage. And Trevisan is not even top 100.
The two tops on the other side of the draw are Kvitova (clay is clearly her worst surface) and Kenin (who is not playing that well).
So yes, she had a good chance to win here if she was healthy.
This is one of the most random GS ever
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 6, 2020 2:18 PM |
Kenin kicked Serena's ass in straight sets in the third round, but shhhhh, don't tell R37 that.
Can't wait to see what Wang Qiang type player bounces Serena out of her next GS tournament.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 6, 2020 2:20 PM |
R41 I know that, and that's the reason i said a good Serena.
And Kenin is not playing as well as last year
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 6, 2020 2:22 PM |
Kenin playing as she is now could easily beat the Serena that we have now.
No one fears Serena anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 6, 2020 2:27 PM |
Serena better hope Wimbledon is played next year. That's her only chance of winning another slam and even then I have many doubts.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 6, 2020 2:30 PM |
And Thiem is totally tanking the tie break.
I like Diego, but there's no way he could defeat Nadal at the best of five sets
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 6, 2020 2:31 PM |
Halep (in less than an hour) showed how to beat Serena at Wimbledon.
I don't think she'll ever win another Grand Slam.

All these tennis players men and women screaming and grunting and shooting their "Come On!" from the first shot...Trevisan was actually pretty quiet in her victory over Gauff but now is louder than Sharapova.
Not even Seles was as loud as some of these players. At what point does it become a hindrance to the opposing player?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 6, 2020 2:50 PM |
Ooos should be "shouting" come on...not shooting
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 6, 2020 2:51 PM |
I found Seles grunting natural. It suited her game.
Right now some players are incredibly annoying. I think i like Anisimova because she is a very quiet player
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 6, 2020 2:57 PM |
Rafa team or Sinner/Ugly as sin team?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 6, 2020 3:03 PM |
[quote] I know that, and that's the reason i said a good Serena.
But a “good” Serena in 2020 is exactly what we’ve had up to now. It is never going to get any better or easier for this Serena. She’ll be even more flaky next year, and only a series of miracles will get her to finals, let alone win them.
23 is her limit.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 6, 2020 3:13 PM |
R48, supposedly, the grunting/screaming is a way to muffle or distract from the sound of the racket hitting the ball, to interfere with the other player’s timing.

R61, when whoever takes this will be too exhausted to play anyone. The person in charge of scheduling should be fired. Will the Nadal game start at midnight?
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 6, 2020 6:14 PM |
This is an engrossing match. I don't understand people who just want matches over with their guy winning rather than actually watching tennis.

by Anonymous | reply 75 | October 6, 2020 7:27 PM |
First set to Swiatek.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | October 6, 2020 7:40 PM |
Swiatek even would be the favourite in the semifinals if she wins this match (without being top 50) but unlike others, Swiatek was always considered a future top player
by Anonymous | reply 77 | October 6, 2020 7:57 PM |
Yeah Swiatek has been touted for a bit as the next big thing. Good to see her have this breakthrough.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | October 6, 2020 8:18 PM |
And she waste no time in winning even after a rocky start of the match.
I'm pretty sure Nadal appreciated. Even if he beat Sinner fast (and i think it'll depend of the start of the match) they will end quite late.
Nadal does a thing that is very useful and probably the reason why he lose so few times against young players. He put a lot of pressure from the very beginning of the match. Most of his matches here start with an early break and that makes more difficult to believe in an upset for the rival.
If Sinner can keep his nerves he should give Rafa some trouble, at least in one set

Silly trout. I watched Mary Pierce lose badly to Justine Henin in the French Open Final way back when, and when it was her turn to give the runner's up speech on court she would NOT SHUT THE FUCK UP. Even the home crowd were sick of her by the end of it.

When she was inducted into the hall of fame she gave a tiring, long speech consisting mostly of Jesus talk (apparently she’s a born-again Christian). Yawn!
by Anonymous | reply 87 | October 6, 2020 9:53 PM |
There’s an investigation into matching fixing at this year’s Roland-Garros. The match allegedly affected was a first-round women’s doubles match on Sept. 30, l.e., something most people wouldn’t be paying attention to. That’s typical of how gamblers operate. But this is the first time a match-fixing has been suspected at a Slam.

Rafa!
by Anonymous | reply 93 | October 6, 2020 11:56 PM |
That seemed a pretty easy win for Rafa.
The Russian chick is the one involved in the cheating. Apparently, she double faulted twice and stumbled on another point. The bets were for her losing her serve.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | October 6, 2020 11:59 PM |
I'm always surprised to hear that Collins played tennis for UVA. She has all the grace and charm of a Waffle House waitress who found a tennis racket on her way home to the trailer park.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | October 7, 2020 12:40 AM |
Sinner really should have won that first set but he needs to vastly improve his net skills and drop shots. There were several big points he should have just whacked the ball for a winner but tried playing it too cutely and got burned by Nadal or made a dumb error. A year from now he should be winning matches like these. He is quite promising
I hope the men left can stop Nadal and Djokovic. How insanely boring it will be if either wins the title AGAIN. I can't believe how sick I am of them.

R94 It was not an easy win. Sinner was up a break in the first two sets and he played really well.
He did way better than i was expecting. Nadal is simply too good at Roland Garros for an unexperienced young player (no matter how talented) defeat him.
But Sinner will be in the last rounds of GS next year for sure, and he'll be top 20 in no time
I'm happy Kvitova won. And a Kvitova-Kenin semifinals at least looks like a GS semifinal

by Anonymous | reply 143 | October 7, 2020 7:10 PM |
R140, Yes, he can. And he defeated him twice (on five matches), but Tsitsipas had two very bad loses recently (let's face it if he didn't choke it against Coric he could even have win or at least be a finalist at the US Open) and that can be a burden against someone like Nole.
But if he plays like he played today he can defeat anyone
by Anonymous | reply 144 | October 7, 2020 7:12 PM |
Yes, R143, he does. I wish someone would immediately translate the conversations (or screams) with his entourage. What the hell is he saying? When he gets mad, he is actually scary. He is not well, mentally.

by Anonymous | reply 149 | October 7, 2020 7:25 PM |
PCB is very solid but his problem is he doesn't have any huge weapons so he struggles against the very best unless they're making errors
by Anonymous | reply 150 | October 7, 2020 7:27 PM |
omg PCB hits a great drop shot that Djokovic did very well to get back...then PCB makes a dumb error. He had the open court but tried going behind Djokovic with much less margin and instead hit it out to get broken
by Anonymous | reply 152 | October 7, 2020 7:29 PM |
[r150] from reading this website, I thought PCB is reputed to have a huge weapon?
by Anonymous | reply 153 | October 7, 2020 7:30 PM |
R151 lol so I guess in 5 years PCB will be coaching a big hitting, very hyped spoiled diva, a younger version of Zverev
by Anonymous | reply 154 | October 7, 2020 7:30 PM |
R153 it's not helping him in this match. Djokovic sadly isn't distracted by it
by Anonymous | reply 155 | October 7, 2020 7:31 PM |
He is screaming more than usual,
by Anonymous | reply 156 | October 7, 2020 7:37 PM |
R151 Ferrer had a very good forehand and he was one of the fastest men on court. Yes, he didn't have a big serve, or huge weapons but he had more weapons than PCB
by Anonymous | reply 157 | October 7, 2020 7:40 PM |
R154 There's a lot of spoiled divas on the junior circuit so he has a lot to chose.
And talking about juniors, Sean Cuenin is the youngest by far of the players on the draw. If he wins he will be the next frend young promising player that they'll destroy hyping him to the sky
by Anonymous | reply 158 | October 7, 2020 7:42 PM |
Djokovic is a total psycho
by Anonymous | reply 159 | October 7, 2020 7:44 PM |
Come on Tsitsipas and Schwartzman! At least one of you win please.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | October 7, 2020 7:51 PM |
Oh, Pablo. :-(
by Anonymous | reply 161 | October 7, 2020 7:52 PM |
Stef needs the mentality. He could earn it by whipping Boobsy.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | October 7, 2020 7:53 PM |
I want a bootylicious final - Titsy and Rafa.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | October 7, 2020 7:54 PM |
Sad for Pablo. Is Djokovic injured or was he doing schtick?
by Anonymous | reply 164 | October 7, 2020 7:55 PM |
lol that ankle problem when there was 40-40 hahahah why losers has always health problems when they the main rival has chance to win a game
The same was with djoko.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | October 7, 2020 7:58 PM |
R164, for some reason PCB really gets under his skin, and that makes every twinge feel like an injury.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | October 7, 2020 7:59 PM |
A Tsitsipas / Nadal final would be great fun; but sadly, I highly doubt that will happen.
in the end I hope Rafa can take out Novaxx
by Anonymous | reply 168 | October 7, 2020 9:58 PM |
PCB isn't at the level of Djoker. I think Djoker was faking it too.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | October 7, 2020 9:59 PM |
Nole is winner on court, loser off court.
by Anonymous | reply 170 | October 7, 2020 10:19 PM |
Does anyone think Lil Diego has a chance against Rafa?
by Anonymous | reply 171 | October 7, 2020 10:22 PM |
Nope R171. Two things, RG is Rafa's territory and the big court helps him plus Diego will be exhausted from the five hour match. I predict, at most, he takes one set off Rafa. Also, they are the first match so and it will be sunnier and the ball will bounce higher. But, Li'l Diego might surprise us. I love Li'L Diego dancing videos.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | October 7, 2020 10:27 PM |
I tend to agree, R172. Plus Rafa will want 'la venganza' cause Lil Diego beat in him in Rome.
by Anonymous | reply 173 | October 7, 2020 10:54 PM |
PCB >>> Djoko in all ways that matter.
by Anonymous | reply 174 | October 7, 2020 11:06 PM |
PCB is everything.
by Anonymous | reply 175 | October 7, 2020 11:29 PM |
Wouldn't it be delightful to be bred by a sweaty and angry PCB who just lost?
The final will be Novacc vs Nadal. The only reason we had a new GS winner is because one got defaulted and the other didn't play. Novacc must be so mad because he should be on 19 already with the cancelled Wimbledon and defaulted USO.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | October 8, 2020 2:32 AM |
So what else is new, R176? Novaxx is always just mad waiting to happen.
by Anonymous | reply 177 | October 8, 2020 2:38 AM |
But I agree that Novaxx will be extremely angry if he does not win RG. The world is always conspiring against him and this year COVID. I wonder if someone close to his circle would break rank and write a tell all book. Sometimes, watching him get mad while playing, I wonder how scary it must be working for him when he gets all rage-y. Scary shit.

Cabal-Farah aren't aging well
by Anonymous | reply 179 | October 8, 2020 12:09 PM |
Why isn't Farah more loved here? He is such a slut on IG.
by Anonymous | reply 180 | October 8, 2020 12:29 PM |
R178, how long has Djokovic been on tour? If his staff was afraid of him I'm sure we would have heard plenty of stories about it by now. His issue, or so it seems to me, is the anger he directs at himself.
And contrast his behavior with that of Thiem, who seemed grateful to have been defeated by Schwartzman so that he could go home. He was very charming, anyone could sympathize with him. Yet it make me think he does not have multiple slams in him.
by Anonymous | reply 181 | October 8, 2020 12:42 PM |
R181 I think Nole is a good guy off court. There are a lot of athletes who just transform when they are on court. I doubt he treats bad his team.
I think part of Thiem being happy after his defeat is that fact that he is a very good friend of Schwartzman.
Thiem didn't have time to prepare RG this year (he usually needs at leas a couple of tournaments to play his best on clay) and after winning the US Open it must be difficult to keep the concentration. He even said that he doesn't have the intention of play too many tournaments (he, who plays everything).
I think Lil Diego has very little chances, but i'm not that sure about Tsitsipas. He played very well in the quarterfinals (unlike Nole). The problem is his bad loses in recent tournaments, and that could be a burden against a player who has probable the best return to serve on the circuit
by Anonymous | reply 182 | October 8, 2020 2:03 PM |
Swiatek is winning easily till now
by Anonymous | reply 183 | October 8, 2020 2:07 PM |
Sure, R182. Djokovic saves his wrath for the lowly ball children on court and is no doubt a perfect angel off court.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | October 8, 2020 2:32 PM |
Charming Swiatek wins!

Kenin will probably win. Kvitova had a lot of chances for breaking back in the second but she cannot find a way. I do not like Kenin (her antics mainly) but she is the definition of clutch, perseverance and intensity.
by Anonymous | reply 189 | October 8, 2020 4:04 PM |
Kenin marching to victory, it would appear.
by Anonymous | reply 190 | October 8, 2020 4:13 PM |
It is pathetic that Schwartzman played for 5 hours and earned the same amount of money as Swiatek who played for 1 hour

what time will the bald man play the little Argentine on Friday?
by Anonymous | reply 192 | October 8, 2020 4:20 PM |
Well, Kvitova just broke for 5-5

R192..... it is scheduled for 8:50 EST
by Anonymous | reply 194 | October 8, 2020 4:22 PM |

well, Kenin won. Team Iga Świątek all the way.
by Anonymous | reply 199 | October 8, 2020 4:32 PM |
Not sure what Kenin antics you are referring to. She seems pretty contained. Doesn’t scream when hitting. Few COME ONS!!” She is intense for sure. Her biggest weapon is that she doesn’t give in.

[quote] R165 Who are you?

by Anonymous | reply 201 | October 8, 2020 4:48 PM |
R184 He won't be the first one. I remember a well known soccer player, one of the Real Madrid most beloved players, Juanito. If you ask anyone who knew him outside the field they would say he was a lovely person, if you ask any of his rivals (who didn't know him outside the field) they will say he was scum.
And i don't think Kyrgios is a bad guy neither, but his behaviour on court is vomitive
by Anonymous | reply 202 | October 8, 2020 4:58 PM |
R199 Me too. 2 GS is excesive for someone like her. She lost 60 60 on Rome.
I hope Iga is not nervous in the final and could defeat her
by Anonymous | reply 203 | October 8, 2020 4:59 PM |
The womens final starts at 4am EST. WTF is that? I'll be unconscious.
by Anonymous | reply 204 | October 8, 2020 5:16 PM |
I still can't believe Kenin has 1 slam never mind possibly having 2. I think she's OK but I never saw her as a real top player. She's not powerful, her movement is good but there are faster players, she's not the best returner. She does have variety and consistency I guess
by Anonymous | reply 205 | October 8, 2020 5:17 PM |
Yeah Kenin is skilled but wins cause of fight, not weapons.
by Anonymous | reply 206 | October 8, 2020 5:22 PM |
Well, that makes her a better competitor than most of the WTA. What good is having weapons if you crumble in big moments? Plishbot could probably answer that better than anyone.

Totally Team Titsy on this one. I hope that he can at least make Djoko furious at himself a few times!
by Anonymous | reply 237 | October 9, 2020 4:31 PM |
Serbian supporters completely obnoxious as fully expected.
by Anonymous | reply 238 | October 9, 2020 5:16 PM |
ugh of course Schwartzman was useless today
Nadal's gonna be damn 40 years old still easing his way through RG. The men really suck and yes Nadal is amazing but this is ridiculous
by Anonymous | reply 239 | October 9, 2020 5:18 PM |
Did Martina really just say that Djoko could "smell Stephanos well behind the baseline"?
by Anonymous | reply 240 | October 9, 2020 5:20 PM |
I still hope Tsitsipas is able to turn this around.
But he has a tendency to lose serve at the beginning of the sets and that's lethal against someone like Nole (or Nadal).
He needs to put pressure on Nole, and you can't do that if you are behind on the score
by Anonymous | reply 241 | October 9, 2020 5:21 PM |
Titsy and his damn eye is driving me crazy. It’s making my eye hurt.
by Anonymous | reply 242 | October 9, 2020 5:34 PM |
Sorry but Stefanos is pathetic.
He was unable to win a single break point, and now he was winning 40-0 and lose five points in a row. That way is totally impossible to win against Nole
by Anonymous | reply 243 | October 9, 2020 5:47 PM |
He ended up managing to lose 2 service games from 40 - 0 up in that set! Pretty pitiful. At least Diego kept fighting all the way through the match with Nadal. Titsy is very mentally fragile.
by Anonymous | reply 244 | October 9, 2020 6:01 PM |
Hopefully Sinner will be a real threat next year, because it's pretty clear that Tsitsipas doesn't have what it's needed and frankly i can't see Medeved being a threat.
And Thiem will never be regular enough.
And i'm tired of the big three. Don't get me wrong, i think they are amazing, but i need new players who are able to compete, not brats with a big mouth who can shit themselves at the moment of truth
by Anonymous | reply 245 | October 9, 2020 6:03 PM |

He’s the new Stan Wawrinka.
by Anonymous | reply 247 | October 9, 2020 6:06 PM |
R247 The problem with Thiem (who in my oppinion improved a lot in his regularity) is that he is not remotely strong enough mentally to compete against big 3. So he can defeat one, but defeating two is probably too much.
It was a pity he couldn't prepare better RG, because in my oppinion he had a chance to win here.
The next gen better get off instagram for a while because if they don't improve soon, people like Sinner, Musetti or Alcaraz will pass them
by Anonymous | reply 248 | October 9, 2020 6:11 PM |

men's tennis is so fucking boring. The big 2 are just seemingly unbeatable at slams. Thiem benefited from Nadal's absence and Djokovic's idiocy at the USO. Would he won if both were in the draw without scandals? Not based on history
Tsitsipas has the game but he's not mentally mature enough yet. He had lots of chances in the first set but couldn't capitalize. Then he had a meltdown in the second set before coming back in the 4th and 5th. I do think at some point Tsitsipas will win slams. Hopefully next year
I'm not watching the men's final. I'm beyond sick of Nadal and Djokovic. Yes they're incredible but this is pathetic that they're in their mid 30s and no one can beat them in best of 5 sets. They shouldn't have more stamina than the rest of the tour at this point.
by Anonymous | reply 267 | October 9, 2020 8:46 PM |
Yeah its weird that these two do better in best of 5 and are easier to beat in 3. It should be the other way though they are better mentally.

Titsi just gave up in the 5th...he is a pussy. I don't care if he was gassed he had a pretty easy time with Rublev he shouldn't be gassed. He is 22.
by Anonymous | reply 271 | October 9, 2020 9:42 PM |
Are you kidding? Sunday will be great drama!
Rafa owns the French and he'll be damned if he loses it to his arch-rival Djoko.
And Djokovic is out to snatch Nadal's wig! He's desperate to win a slam, especially after the USO debacle. He will think that winning another slam is utterly critical to restoring his rightful place.
I hope Rafa drives him into the wild outbursts of frustration that are so entertaining. But then again, Djokovic is often more 'contained' when he plays Rafa or Roger.

by Anonymous | reply 277 | October 10, 2020 10:42 AM |
R274 Nole's hair is fantastic.
Anyway, Nole showed some big weakness that will be lethal against Nadal.
He needs the final to be similar to the Australian Open final, and like in that case Nadal has the problem of not facing anyone who could test him before the final. If the match is tight, Nadal will win
by Anonymous | reply 278 | October 10, 2020 11:11 AM |
Tsitsipas it top 5 again and Schwartzman and Rublev are new to the top 10.
Stricker is the junior champion.
Curiously, all junior semifinalists were born in 2002 so they were older than all of the junior finalists of last year who were born in 2003. I suppose it's a consecuence of this weird year
by Anonymous | reply 279 | October 10, 2020 11:13 AM |
Goran Ivanisevic said that Nadal has no options, Nole is in perfect heath and ready to win.
And all that after winning in fifth against Tsitsipas. Someone should remember him that Nole was the main favourite other years and Nadal defeated him
by Anonymous | reply 280 | October 10, 2020 1:07 PM |
Hmmm, so a massive patch of athletic tape on the back of one's neck is a sign of perfect health? Who knew?
by Anonymous | reply 281 | October 10, 2020 1:14 PM |
Realistically, R280, Djokovic has never been the "main favorite" at Roland Garros in any year. Even this year, Rafa has the edge in the betting line.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | October 10, 2020 1:15 PM |
Ii think he was the slightly favourite from 2011 to 2016.
Probably 2013 was his best chance when he lost that epic match in semifinals.
But the truth is the conditions of Roland Garros play in Rafa's favour, he is not only the best on clay but this tournament is the one where he usually peak.
Nole was incredibly anxious to win this tournament for a long time, which explain his doubts even in the two years (2015 and 2016) where Nadal was clearly not at his best. That final against Wawrinka was the clear sign that he was unable to play his best in the tournament.
This year, the conditions play in his favour, but after having so much trouble against Tsitsipas (who didn't even play well in the first two sets) it's a little too much to say that Nadal has no options when nobody was even able to bring him to a fifth set on a RG final before
by Anonymous | reply 283 | October 10, 2020 1:21 PM |

R280 R282, However, I think Djoko is a lot hungrier than Rafa is. I know it might be optics, but there is a rage, drive (call it whatever you like) in Djoko that I do not perceive in Rafa.

But i doubt that rage plays in his favour here. He showed anxiety when he was unable to close the match against Tsitsipas, he conceded a lot of break points (if the greek was more effective the result could have been very different).
He needs to dictate the game from the beginning like he did in their final in Australia if he wants to win

Kenin is really consistent but makes lots of rookie mistakes like that last sitter.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | October 10, 2020 1:39 PM |
First set IGA!!! But it was way too close for comfort. I am sure Kenin will come back.

It's much easier to dictate on your most effective surface, R286. Nadal looks to have tamed his internal demons while Djokovic still seems in constant battle with them like milk souring.

Did McEnroe just slut-shame the Pole?

wta matches are a a joke

9 new winners in the last 14 GS finals.... However, I am happy that Iga won. Kenin seemed to be injured in the second set, but still.... her attitude needs readjusting before it is too late. She makes it difficult to root for her.

What did he say?
by Anonymous | reply 293 | October 10, 2020 2:55 PM |
Something about Swiatek rhapsodizing about having a vacation in the woods with her sports psychologist, and John said “with her psychologist. Really.” But I think said psychologist is lady.

LESBIAN!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 295 | October 10, 2020 3:19 PM |
R294, I think McEnroe was saying that it was funny that her whole team goes with her everywhere, even on vacation.

I might be in the minority here, but I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's men's final. If Nadal wins, he will tie Federer's GS record. If Djokovic wins, he will hit 18 GS championships, just two behind Federer and one behind Nadal. And Djokovic would be the only one of the Big Three to win each of the majors at least twice.

Mirka!!!! Bring me the axe!!!!

R297, this is actually a high-stakes, high-drama match. There's so much history between these two. The RG organizers must be thrilled.

why our polish tennis players are so ugly?
by Anonymous | reply 305 | October 10, 2020 7:48 PM |
I don't think Iga is ugly at all...she looks a little like Milla Jovovic ....same nose. She wasn't wearing a stitch of makeup
by Anonymous | reply 306 | October 10, 2020 7:58 PM |
why our?
by Anonymous | reply 307 | October 10, 2020 8:04 PM |
Iga seems fun and interesting. Kenin can barely string a sentence together.

Predictions for tomorrow, gurls?
by Anonymous | reply 310 | October 10, 2020 9:38 PM |
Djokovic in four.
by Anonymous | reply 311 | October 10, 2020 9:50 PM |
That would make 18 majors for him right? Fed with 20 and Rafa with 19. Amazing.
by Anonymous | reply 312 | October 10, 2020 9:53 PM |
Yes, R312; and Djokovic would become the only one of those three to have won each Slam at least twice.
by Anonymous | reply 313 | October 10, 2020 9:56 PM |
R313, I find it so surprising that Nadal has won the Aussie Open just once but Wimbledon twice.
by Anonymous | reply 315 | October 10, 2020 10:18 PM |
Nadal hasn't won Wimbledon in 10 years and when he last won it he beat Berdych in the finals, so that was sort of a fluke. Nadal didn't encounter a seeded player at the tournament that year until the quarters, where he played Soderling.
