The karma system has been dead since Muriel added logins again last year. That page just hasn't been updated. I think 99% of the problems here are due to neglect and an older moderator who hasn't kept up with modern internet problems. I say that because he once shut down several troll threads saying he didn't have enough bandwidth to identify trolls himself... and that makes no sense. It's gibberish. You don't need bandwidth to identify trolls. On top of that, he didn't even sign his posts, but you knew it was a moderator because he shut the threads down immediately after posting.

Also in the thread I'm linking, he says he can't tell who is who when it comes to identifying posters, but then brags about all the celebrities he knows who post here. Come on, that's either stupidity or trolling.

They're not making it up, R100, for a while when this current layout was new, you could give a lot of FFs, maybe unlimited FFs. But then they took that away because the karma system relied on flagging the accounts that got a ton of FFs and having a human review them. Because DL has so many trolls, they were having to manually review tons and tons of accounts every day, and they didn't like it, so they limited our FFs instead of, y'know, getting rid of the trolls.

It wasn't until several months later that they finally realized trolls were still abusing the whole "karma" thing by using multiple browsers and/or accounts to get threads deleted and people banned by the automated system. The fixed that, too, but I think in the process what they ended up doing is just basically disabling the whole karma system entirely.

Interesting to read this thread two years after it was started.

Two things stand out to me: one, that the idea that things get worse during election years and then settle down did NOT turn out to be true, and two, that the karma system seemed to be disabled back in 2020, because it definitely isn't these days. I think whatever punishment you get via "karma" is temporary, but there does seem to be some kind of system. The other day some guy was posting "n*gger" and "g**k" and "k*ke" on a bunch of threads and got grayed out, but the next day, his posts were back to normal, so something is going on, it just doesn't last for very long.
