Keep in mind that Newsom has been associated with the Getty family his whole life. His father was the family lawyer who negotiated and delivered ransom to the Italian kidnappers who had JP Getty's grandson. Getty was the richest man in the world at the time. His son Gordon inherited the empire. I've read his son and Newsom were pals growing up. Anyway, fast forward to the '90s and GG became the sole investor in Newsom's wine/restaurant/hospitality business.

Yes, Newsom is an attractive man who would have caught her eye regardless, but in hindsight the Getty association must have activated the golddigger in her and put her in overdrive. He didn’t even want to live downtown in the governor’s mansion that Jerry Brown had renovated a couple of years prior. I guess he is too afraid to live amongst the people he is in service to.
