Mine was the Texas Lounge in Calgary. It's in the same building as the bathhouse and shares an entrance. Sluts go to the left, drunks to the right. They only serve beer in cans or bottles. It feels like a tacky basement rumpus room and the clientele is, well ... trashy. I only went once and it was gross. I felt like I needed to take a shower afterwards.
What's the worst gay bar you've ever been in?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 3, 2020 3:11 PM |
OP, why are you reposting a thread you started 10 years ago?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 30, 2020 10:23 PM |
R1: Do you have an address or website?! Sounds perfect.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 30, 2020 10:25 PM |
The RRR (now R3) in Guerneville. It was like everyone there was hooked up to embalming fluid. One bar tender had bad plastic surgery -- a smile that never changed.

Why do you ask, and what sounds perfect?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 30, 2020 10:29 PM |
There are sluts there? Sign me up!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 30, 2020 10:31 PM |
r1, most people don't remember threads from 10 years ago
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 30, 2020 10:32 PM |
Several years ago, I went to Revolver in West Hollywood. What. a. dump.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 30, 2020 10:35 PM |
R1 I'm glad OP reposted his thread instead of bumping an old one. Nothing wrong with that.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 30, 2020 10:40 PM |
The Senatrice's Lounge for Discreet Ladies in Charleston. What a dump!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 30, 2020 10:40 PM |
[quote] I'm glad OP reposted his thread instead of bumping an old one. Nothing wrong with that.
The old thread is closed. OP could’ve linked the old thread as opposed to posing it as something that appears wholly original. Nothing wrong with that.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 30, 2020 10:49 PM |
It's been ten years. No one would have even remembered the old thread if you hadn't linked to it

[quote] No one would have even remembered the old thread if you hadn't linked to it
Apparently R1 did.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 30, 2020 11:03 PM |
Yeah, no one else but r1
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 30, 2020 11:05 PM |
Maybe that's how R1 amuses himself during this corona quarantining. He searches for old threads that may have a connection to new ones.
If he wasn't doing this, he'd be working on a jigsaw puzzle.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 30, 2020 11:09 PM |
Does anyone else remember the Haymarket on 8th avenue in NYC? A really sordid hustler bar. I saw Anthony Perkins there once.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 30, 2020 11:15 PM |
R1 what a fucking loser. Are they the DL Librarian? Who would even remember reading that thread a DECADE ago?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 30, 2020 11:21 PM |
The Bike Stop in Philly. Full of fat, nasty queens pretending to be "butch." But the customers are no match for the surly cunts behind the bar who all manage to think their shit don't stink.
Lose the attitude, bitches, you're just glorified shop girls.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 30, 2020 11:24 PM |
It was half bar, half open sex pit in Paris near the Pompidou in about year 2000. Bareback sex was back for some reason (there was no PrEP yet) and it was the filthiest den of eniquity, and I had been around. Not that labyrinth one. It was just a bar and a big open pit for fucking that you could see from the bar.

Is there such a position? If an opening becomes available I’d like to apply.

There was a place called Grand Prix in Milwaukee that went from being a really great gay bar in a rough neighborhood. It then devolved into a lesbian/gay bar and then it became strictly lesbian. Went out of business years ago. It kept sliding downhill with every incarnation.

To repeat from another thread, The Spotlight in Hollywood. A bar full of criminals and prostitutes and drug addicts. Good company. I was there on two occasions, the second time I got arrested later in the... evening.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 30, 2020 11:28 PM |
Jesus, the Spotlight! It was on Cahuenga, a block or so south of Hollywood Boulevard. Two words: Rough Trade. As I recall, there were a few stairs involved that you had to walk down to get in. I have never seen such an assortment of humanity in one place in my life. The Spotlight was devoid of any charm, elan, goodness, or redeeming social value whatsoever. There was another bar around the corner on (Selma? Ivar?) that was just as sleazy and tragic.
Ah, the bad old days!

There's already been repeated thread after repeated thread on this OP. Why did you find it necessary to come here and start another? Why? Why OP? Can you give us an intelligent, honest answer? Can you? Why would you come here and post this kind of shit yet AGAIN when there have already been so many prior threads on this EXACT same subject. Do you really think this is that damned interesting that it warrants another entire thread to be started? DO YOU??
Why couldn't you have done a search first OP? That would have been the polite thing to do. What you demonstrated was just plain selfishness. You have shown that you don't think about anybody but yourself. It's all about you and your own satisfaction. Next time before you post, do us all a favor and do a search. We don't need another duplicate thread just because of your laziness.

Half these bars sound divine actually. I love a trashy gay dump!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 31, 2020 12:24 AM |
Teddy Bears in Louisville, actually in the historic Old Louisville neighborhood. Was advertised as Louisville’s only “Bear” bar, but in actuality was a tiny shithole with three toothless, fat queens drinking cheap ass beer ($1 a can) at one end of the bar sitting alongside their equally toothless homeless fag hag. Floors were uneven, the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned in months, yet the posters on the wall promised “hot sexy bear nights” obviously from way back in the days of yore.

But a great bar name!

It was in Indianapolis. The Varsity. Back in the 70s, it was pathetic. But it hung on for decades. Just the worst gay bar I have ever encountered.

I had the worst gay night out of my life at Substation in London in the late nineties. Cher’s “Believe” was everywhere at the time and I still flinch and am transported back when the autotune kicks in.
Naff club full of naff queens.
~~shudder~~

The Manhandler Saloon, Chicago. People were getting it on in the back "beer garden"... there were a few parking spaces further toward the end of the lot abutting an alleyway... in those even darker spaces, unabashed group sex going on.
The mate I went with knew about the "scene", yet said nothing of it in advance. Not judging, just not my cup of tea. I believe it has shut down by now. It was apparently quite a popular place of legend since the late sixties.

Big city bad bars at least are interesting. The worst are the midsize town gay bars where there are 2 people there at prime time. CRs in Upper Darby waat kind of place outside Philly.

Who has no life that they can remember a 10 yr old thread? Or can research any new thread?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 31, 2020 3:05 AM |
It appears both R1 and the OP remembered a 10-year old thread. OP copied the old thread verbatim.

Stonewall, NYC got pretty bad years ago and the new bartenders didn’t seem gay. I remember one saying to a woman patron, “I’ll be anything you want”. I remeber hanging with a coworker and a cute, ripped Latino said to him, “Let’s go get a rock” and I realized he meant crack.

The Odyssey, Winston-Salem.
It was housed in a strip mall in what I believe was formerly a pizzeria - still had the immovable curved restaurant benches along the wall. The dance floor was up on a small stage with speakers on pole stands.

All gay bars are the same bar.

[quote]The Spotlight in Hollywood. A bar full of criminals and prostitutes and drug addicts.
Yes, yes, and yes. I lived in Hollywood back in the day. I made it my goal one year to have a drink in every gay bar in LA and the Valley. Even other hustler bars were not as trashy as The Spotlight. Toothless meth trash.
It's long gone, now it's called the Avenue Lounge.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 3, 2020 11:58 AM |
The was a gay bar I went to years ago in Philly with carpeting on the floor— carpeting that patrons had spilled drinks on and vomited on apparently for years
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 3, 2020 12:50 PM |
Yeah The Stonewall is kinda sad. Decent bartenders generally. Tree was perhaps overly talkative and older - but a legend. But the smell, dated space and crowd has made it the bottom on my list of West Village gay bars. Many better ones.

Chesapeake House in Washington, DC. (now closed) Was a chickeny strip club with nude dancers who used their tips to feed their heroin addiction. I went to use to bathroom and opened the door and saw one guy hold a knife up to the throat of another.
Runner up, Paradise Bar in Cambridge, MA (now closed.) Nerdy guys standing around too shy to approach eat other, my friend leaned to me and said "This bar is way too close to MIT."

A-R43, has Back in the late 90’s Paradise had some great strippers and was more “alternative”, with biker and Goth dudes. Sigh.
