The real one, in California. The interior looks nothing like the GG set, although it does have a lanai.
Some wealthy DLer should buy and open a Golden Girls B & B for the eldergays and the fraus.

It's.... interesting.

If I had the money, I'd build an exact replica of the Golden Girls house on Vancouver Island.

Would you have beach friends?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 15, 2020 9:00 PM |
All of DL would be my beach friends, R5.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 15, 2020 9:02 PM |
Look R6 you’re a real sweet person, but we’re all just posters around here not friends. I hope that’s ok?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 15, 2020 9:05 PM |
Fine, R7. Then you can't come to my Golden Girls house on the beach!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 15, 2020 9:07 PM |
Enough wicker!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 15, 2020 9:28 PM |
If you do the street view, there are wires running across the front of the house. I hate that!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 15, 2020 9:44 PM |
No, no this is all wrong. Where’s the rattan sofa and Beverly Hills hotel banana leaf wallpaper!!?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 15, 2020 9:55 PM |
HGTV could remodel it
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 15, 2020 10:01 PM |
Why did they move Blanche's bedroom from where it was in the pilot? It made more sense being off the front beside the lanai where she could have a lovely view and privacy to be rogered to dawn by the old geezers from The Rusty Anchor.

[Quote]The interior looks nothing like the GG set,
The interior of the Golden Girls house was completely nonsensical. No house could have an interior with that set up
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 15, 2020 10:16 PM |
Is the neighborhood restricted?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 15, 2020 10:33 PM |
I wish we had a thread where our clever DL tried to make sense of their house..
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 15, 2020 10:41 PM |
Seriously? No one thought to Google the impossible layout of this house?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 15, 2020 10:50 PM |
As for this real house in WSJ, I love all the natural light coming in! The kitchen I have contradictory feelings about. The color is different than what you would see in any modern house and I can appreciate that, but for the same reason, it looks a bit cartoonish. The floor in the kitchen also looks like old vinyl. It's got to go for a $3 million house!

You must be new here.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 15, 2020 10:59 PM |
I don't see much of a problem with the layout.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 15, 2020 11:02 PM |
R18 that plan makes no sense. In "We're Outta Here!" (Season 4) Rose clearly states her room is second on the left. Now look at that floor plan. Do you see any second on the left?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 15, 2020 11:02 PM |
Isn’t this a ritzy LA area? Seems like I heard Betty White actually lives nearby.

Now, which side does Carol and Dr. Harry Weston live?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 15, 2020 11:07 PM |
It reminds me of a barn, but then I’ve never really liked the open plan with high ceilings. I like my houses with actual rooms.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 15, 2020 11:10 PM |
I wouldN’t want to live in the quote unquote Golden Girls house and have it be this vaulted ceiling, mid century modern snooze. It needs to be dripping with 80s vibes
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 15, 2020 11:13 PM |
No! I thought the same thing R23! But that's what's out there.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 15, 2020 11:15 PM |
Love you R31
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 15, 2020 11:18 PM |
r27 no, i’m the OP of the original thread shaking my fists in powerful anger!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 15, 2020 11:18 PM |
In fact, I'll one up you R23. 😉 The first episode to mention "second on the left" wasn't in Season 4 that you mentioned but Season 1.
See video at 9:30 mark. 😗
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 15, 2020 11:26 PM |
R34 that was the same scene I was referencing! I just saw it last week here in the UK
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 15, 2020 11:32 PM |
R35 HAHA! Too funny our timing. The only reason I know is because I started a whole 90's nostalgia binge and am currently watching season 3! But you mentioned you heard it in Season 4?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 15, 2020 11:37 PM |
If Rose's bedroom is second on the left and Blanche's is at the end of the hall. Then where are the bathroom and Dorothy and Sophia's bedrooms located? That fan made blue print is not 100% accurate.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 15, 2020 11:40 PM |
Here's another conception. At least one on the left.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 15, 2020 11:44 PM |
R36 yes, It's playing on ch5. The last 2 episodes of season 4 are essentially clipshows of their best moments, ostensibly the girls looking back as Blanche contemplates selling the house :)
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 15, 2020 11:56 PM |
It’s really nice (much nicer inside than outside) except for the kitchen.
I know Bea used to live in Brentwood. Not sure about Betty.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 16, 2020 5:58 AM |
How much rent did Blanche charge? Did Rose pay the most for her huge room?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 16, 2020 5:44 PM |
It is interesting the vaulted ceiling with exposed wooden beams and the sliding glass doors in the bedrooms were replicated on the show. But yes, the show house layout is a metaphysical impossibility. Interesingly, the real house has the fourth bedroom removed from the other 3, which is what the show had in the pilot. Only in this case, I would think the girls would shove Sofia over to the kitchen bedroom and out of their hair...

I really have to wonder if HGTV is considering buying it and doing a "renovation" like the Brady house? Betty White is still alive and working.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 17, 2020 2:52 AM |
I know the interior on the show is not real due to being a set as well as defying logic, but in regards to decoration and design it looks a Hell of a lot better than the actual interior of the house which is a huge letdown with its dreadful open plan concept.
Another dreadful type of house that has been around for quite some time are snouthouses. Those are those houses with an attached garage that look bigger than the rest of the house.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 17, 2020 7:40 AM |
HAHA! Snout houses! I've never heard that term but had to Google it. 🤣
That is the most prevalent design in suburbia for the last 70 years!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 17, 2020 2:13 PM |
That's hilarious!
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 17, 2020 7:58 PM |
Also: [quote]A traditional Japanese “engawa” — a strip of porch — borders the outside of the home.
So that's what that little front porch is. Always thought that was an interesting part of the architecture.

[quote] actual interior of the house which is a huge letdown with its dreadful open plan concept.
It’s not open concept. All of the rooms are separated.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 18, 2020 3:38 AM |
Keep it away from the fucking Property Brothers! They’ll ruin it!
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 18, 2020 3:39 AM |
So are they going to renovate the inside like the set in 1985 and hope a buyer wants it in that condition? Isn't that what they did with the Brady house? They couldn't turn it into a tourist thing because of the neighbors. And even if Betty makes it until the renovations are done, who else are they going to interview on the show? Rebecca? Margyareet? Barbara Thornedyke?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 18, 2020 10:46 PM |
[quote] Margyareet?
They’d have to use a ouija board.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 18, 2020 11:05 PM |
Awe, she just died in February. I wonder if she even went for that freaky stuff later in life.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 19, 2020 3:17 AM |
It's for the best they dispensed with her housekeeping so soon. You just know she would have been laid off every other month when the girls' finances took an inevitable downtown

The gay Property Brother must be so excited.
