by Anonymousreply 907/13/2020

I’m glad they found her body. At least her family will have some closure.

You know everyone involved in the search is ecstatic they found her - gets the Twitter loons off their backs.

by Anonymousreply 1007/13/2020

The twitter loons are going off the deep end. Pun intended.

by Anonymousreply 1307/13/2020

Was she pinned under a tree like the psychic said?

by Anonymousreply 1407/13/2020

Then out spake brave Santana,

The Mistress of the Gate:

"To every woman upon this earth

Death cometh soon or late.

And how can woman die better

Than facing zero odds,

For the brackish depths of bathers,

And the bottom-dwelling cods?”

by Anonymousreply 1507/13/2020

Okay, mock me if you want. I always really liked her, and this whole thing sucks.

I'm not crying as a type, but this bums me out in a way Cory Montieth's dead didn't.

by Anonymousreply 1607/13/2020

R12 “The lake beach of her death” has a very poetic ring to it.

by Anonymousreply 1707/13/2020

Those divers did a hell of a job. I did not think they would find her, thought they would have to wait for the body to rise.

Well done guys. I hope someone in the Rivera family can be composed enough to thank them.

Hell I'm grateful and I'm not even part of this.

by Anonymousreply 1807/13/2020

R16 I agree - it's really really sad and a pitiful situation.

by Anonymousreply 1907/13/2020

R18, especially since that tree was holding her down!

I wonder why Naya went BACK into the water after she was safe in the woods with deer feeding her pinecones.

Did she go back after her phone?

by Anonymousreply 2007/13/2020

Her acting (and Amber Riley's voice) was the one reason why I stuck with Glee for as long as I did. Despite being so disconnected from it, I actually worked up a few tears when Santana and her grandmother managed to reconcile at her wedding.

I really have to hand it to the Glee cast (that isn't Lea Michelle or Chris Colfer). Heather Morris was on Twitter saying she was trying to volunteer to help search, and Amber Riley made a comment that really read people who were begging them for some kind of performative grief. Part of me hopes that despite knowing how awful the putative leads were to each other and the cast at large--the actual ones worth watching--were close.

I remember Jane Lynch having to go on the Tonight Show to promote Hollywood Game Night the week after Monteith died, and she just looked so shell-shocked. I hope that means I'm right.

by Anonymousreply 2107/13/2020

by Anonymousreply 2707/13/2020

by Anonymousreply 2807/13/2020

by Anonymousreply 3007/13/2020

Very poor taste, OP, to portray a drowning victim as a mermaid... You could have found a better picture.

by Anonymousreply 3507/13/2020

R16 It's upsetting to me, too.

With Corey, it was a surprise as I wasn't aware of his addiction issues. He was actively playing with fire, so as much as addiction is a bitch, he directly risked his life.

Learning that Salling was into CP was shocking and surreal. Somehow I always think of pedos as being older guys. I would likely end my life, too, if I was a pedophile.

Naya was trying to do something fun with her child, and suffered a tragic accident. My emotions are the same as they would be for any young mother and child in this scenario, but I suppose heightened by the fact that her family has to go through this in the public eye.

Her celebrity has little to do with it, even though I really enjoyed Naya's acting on the few seasons I watched. It's just a freaking heartbreaking situation. Four is way too young to lose your mother.

I got her ex does right by her family and lets them have an active role in Josey's life.

by Anonymousreply 3607/13/2020

R36 I think he will. All the invasive paparazzi shots have been of him with her family.

by Anonymousreply 3707/13/2020

There's no dignity in having multiple helicopters hovering around, filming the body bag that is still dripping water. I wish they had a stretcher to transfer her on, because seeing two men struggle to keep her off the ground and get her in the van did not feel like a solemn way to move a dead body.

I say this knowing that by watching the video, I am contributing to their profiting off of filming. I'm going to go sit in shame now.

I also say it with utmost respect for the team who worked to recover her body. They did a remarkable job.

by Anonymousreply 3807/13/2020

Agreed, that was miserable to watch. RIP

by Anonymousreply 3907/13/2020

Press conference

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 5907/13/2020

It sounds to me that she helped her little boy into the boat, and perhaps as the boat wasn't anchored, a current may have pushed the boat towards her and sort of pulled her underneath it, trapping her below.

Having to use dental records to officially identify her, it is so fucking sad. Poor girl. R.I.P.

by Anonymousreply 6007/13/2020

I missed the press conference, why are they doing the dental vs finger prints?

by Anonymousreply 6107/13/2020

R60 and R61 I would have thought dental records would be a blessing in that they hopefully aren’t asking any family members to do the confirmation so they don’t need to look at her in her current state.

As for fingerprints, you know what your hands look like after being in the tub or pool for 45 minutes. I’m sure after days in water there’s all kinds of distortions you would get in trying to get a clear print.

by Anonymousreply 7807/13/2020

Apparently, based on what her son told the police, they think the two of them got caught in a rip current. She made sure that he was safe, but couldn't save herself.

That actually did get a tear out of me.

by Anonymousreply 7907/13/2020

The pic of the brother and the mom with her arms outstretched kneeling on the dock (screaming in grief?) in the lake was very moving.

by Anonymousreply 8007/13/2020

That’s heartbreaking if that is the case, which it sounds like it is. I’m sure they did get more info from the boy and maybe proper child therapists are now talking to him.

At first I was definitely convinced that she wasn’t going to hop in to this murky, dangerous lake to go swimming, let alone let the kid swim. But maybe they were taking a photo in the water, or were warm and wanted to cool off quick or maybe kid was begging her to go in.

The reality of the news is so sad even though we all knew the outcome.

by Anonymousreply 8807/13/2020

You know I think that's exactly what happened. She had put her kid back in the boat, and she took a picture of him and sent it to a relative. They found him on the boat 90 minutes later. It was the last communication from her. I bet she plopped him back in the boat, took his picture and very probably dropped her phone so she went back in the water. Probably exhausted. They said that lake is dangerous. it's cold and has currents.

by Anonymousreply 8907/13/2020

She probably fell back into the water by accident and was not strong enough to fight whatever cause her to sink down.

by Anonymousreply 9007/13/2020

Everyone keeps theorizing about her having dropped her phone in the water, but I would think most people would realize it would be pointless to try to retrieve a phone from a lake. It's not like it would still be working.

Having listened to their podcast some, they were both really close with Naya back in the day and obviously still got along. I think the man toward the far right with the black mask looks like Chris but it’s not very clear.

Darren Criss isn't there. The first guy on the left may be the Glee production guy who was good friends with Naya, Kevin McHale and Jenna. Next looks like Harry Shum Jr. Next is definitely Kevin McHale, then Jenna Ushkowitz and Heather Morris with their significant others, Amber. On the far right is Chris Colfer and what looks like his boyfriend.

Every news outlet is saying she took the photo of her son ON THE BOAT, not in the water. Even the Daily Mail is saying it. Stop saying otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 9907/13/2020

I honestly hope that's not true, but that he was on the boat and she was just cooling off when the worst happened. If she truly died saving him, it will hit him like an avalanche when he's old enough to understand.

How can you convey all your love and respect for someone in one post? How can you summarize a decade of friendship and laughter with words alone? If you were friends with Naya Rivera, you simply can’t. Her brilliance and humor were unmatched. Her beauty and talent were otherworldly. She spoke truth to power with poise and fearlessness. She could turn a bad day into a great day with a single remark. She inspired and uplifted people without even trying. Being close to her was both a badge of honor and a suit of armor. by Anonymousreply 10907/13/2020

R106 I was just about to post about this it's hard to believe but according to the sheriffs that theory is plausible, they even talk about it in the press conference.

According to this video the son said the last that he saw her was when he got boosted into the boat by her and then she immediately disappeared under the water. So the theory is since the boat was unanchored the boat drifted, she panicked but had enough energy to swim to the boat and boost her son back into the boat but couldn't save herself. She probably usually anchors the boat but forgot to this time.

Damn Naya I've said deservedly bad shit about her before all this but I have to admit she wasn't selfish at the last moment.

I saw leaked pics of her body. She was so bloated as to be unrecognizable. She looked like a swollen piglet. It must have been so degrading and humiliating for her to die like that, leaving such a nasty sleazy cadaver. She probably shit herself while struggling. I can only imagine the desperation and the humiliation as she get her panties flooded with shit!

by Anonymousreply 13307/13/2020

I have to stick up for anyone who hasn't posted. When my brother died, it was a local news story. There were reporters outside the funeral, at the cemetery, etc. That was incredibly hard, and the microscope was about 1000x smaller than a celebrity death, especially with a rabid fan base. There's no right way to grieve, and some people prefer to do it privately. And I'm sure some of them haven't remained close to her since the show ended and don't feel the need to be performative about it.

I feel like in the last few years, grief has become community pornography. Everyone feels the need to post anytime someone of note dies. Kelly Preston died. Do I feel bad for her loved ones? Sure. Do I personally care? Meh.

by Anonymousreply 13407/13/2020

The big blowout on the Glee set that made the tabloids was actually between Naya and Brad Falchuk, about Lea Michele.

She basically says in her book that after the incident the media was fed rumors of her firing from Glee by Lea Michele. She doesn't really name her but it's made crystal clear who she's talking about.

Now the family will have a closed cask funeral because Naya’s corpse is basically an aborted turd. How humiliating and degrading for her! She probably shit herself while drowning. Can you imagine how humiliating and degrading it must have been for her family to see her so gross and bloated and stained with shit?!

by Anonymousreply 14207/13/2020

R124/R139 = Lea Michele / Darren Criss

by Anonymousreply 14307/13/2020

I loved when she sang “La Isla Bonita” with Ricky Martin on “Glee”. One of my favorite numbers of hers.

by Anonymousreply 14407/13/2020

OMG I showed my boyfriend the leaked pics of Naya’s gross bloated drowned body and he said she was definitely a closed casket case. Part of her face was like eaten by something. Ugh so bloated and fat! So degrading and humiliating for her. We had a good laugh about it. I love celebrities being humiliated and degraded.

R148 that’s a lie. He did not fall in the water. She did because she was overweight and had poor balance. She thrashed, screamed, shit herself, and then died leaving an ugly bloated corpse. Such a degrading and humiliating death! Such a sad end to a mediocre actress!

by Anonymousreply 15407/13/2020
Yes, as we all know, cadavers are usually gorgeous.

And every drowning victim is aware of what happens to her/his body after death.

This troll is not only an asshole; he's totally illogical.

by Anonymousreply 15507/13/2020

I can’t immediately think of another TV show, or film, that has had three main cast members of this sort of age, die during production / within a few years of it ending, can anyone else? I’m not counting The Twilight Zone which was one incident...

Although claims are made for the Poltergeist curse and a number of cast members did die before their time, it is only Dominique Dunne and Heather O’Rourke’s deaths that were genuinely shocking IMO (although indeed both fairly shocking and it wasn’t a big main cast).

by Anonymousreply 15607/13/2020

I've noticed a few of the Glee cast members (and Mario Cantone) have said that Naya was the most talented out of their group.

by Anonymousreply 15707/13/2020

What a tragedy! RIP a mother is always a mother ❤️

by Anonymousreply 15807/13/2020

R157 yes, I saw Kevin McHale (I think it was?) say that.

I hadn’t really considered it, but if I think back to who was the best actor, then certainly I can’t think of anyone on Glee better than Rivera when it comes down to it (I am sorry, Emmy-award-winning actor, Darren Criss).

Rivera did have one of the stronger character arcs insofar as these things go on such a limited show, which might have helped, but I understand she fought for it.

That image in OP — if only.

How much do you think it’s destroying Lea that if she had been the one that died there would be so few people saying anything nice about her?

by Anonymousreply 16407/13/2020

Stop being so juvenile R164. I'm sure you have no one who'll remember you at all.

by Anonymousreply 16507/13/2020

Actually, R165 : Lea, I think 164 is onto something.

by Anonymousreply 16607/13/2020

And it’s too bad Lea Michelle suffers from whatever ails her. She’s got talent. Why be so unhappy and miserable to others?

by Anonymousreply 16707/14/2020

Lea posted a blurry photo of Naya clearly taken from a computer monitor as “tribute”.

by Anonymousreply 16807/14/2020

Lea believed in her bones she was the next Barbra Streisand. She idolized Babs. She was aggressive and pushy, and insisted on shoving everyone out of the way . Naya was a threat to Lea because of her talent her drive and her personality. Lea wanted to be a force, but Naya was a force. Lea just had tantrums. Naya went to war.

by Anonymousreply 16907/14/2020

From everyone’s descriptions of her, it sounds like she had a lot in common with Santana.

I bet we would have liked her.
Rivera did have one of the stronger character arcs insofar as these things go on such a limited show, which might have helped, but I understand she fought for it.

A lot of it--in addition to how beautifully they handled her coming out--was because unlike basically every other couple on the show--there was never a shred of toxicity to Santana and Brittany. There was zero logical reason to marry off Kurt and Blaine, apart from throwing chum in the water for the fangirls. But the two girls getting married? Made total sense.

by Anonymousreply 17607/14/2020

R170 For all his praise as a creator, I think Ryan Murphy can be quite lazy and let some of his characters just evolve form the actors to portray them and this was never truer than on the set of Glee.

There are still a few loons insisting that the death resulted from foul play and the sheriff's office should be investigating, or that the search-and-rescue team could have saved Naya if they had tried harder to find her on the first day, but yeah, I I too was surprised at how most of the Twitter kids have calmed down and come to their senses.

by Anonymousreply 18107/14/2020

R181, I didn't know Glee has recently been released on Netflix, which could explain the influx of young fans. Though for twitter crazies age seems irrelevant.

In other news, Amber Riley posted this video of Naya and her son singing, just to drive home the tragedy in case we missed it. I stopped watching Glee early on, so guess I'm surprised the cast stayed so close. Naya seems like she was a live wire and well loved.

by Anonymousreply 18207/14/2020

So, now that we are seeing that Naya was so loved and respected by her costars, does that mean that the curse is alternating between the nicest and the evilest of the cast members, and the next one on the chopping block will be a baddie?

by Anonymousreply 18307/14/2020

R177 I think the biggest issue was the fangirl takeover . So you had Santana come out to be with Britney or Britany or whatever her name was, instead of keeping that as teenage boredom exploration and Kurt and Darren Criss' character as true love forever even though in reality nobody would be able to stand Kurt for more than 5 minutes .

Dianna Agron's tribute to Naya on Instagram is beautifully composed and rendered. Agron is quite literate and cultured. And lovely. I've seen her at a few poetry readings. Naya must have been a fun friend for her. What a ride those kids had. No they weren't teens, but they were all quite young in 2009. And the show became a phenomenon very quickly.

That photo of them all standing on the beach could never be staged. All those cast members and old friends in the same place - present for her body when it was taken from the water. It was extremely moving as a tribute to their lasting love for Naya. Beautiful thing to see these days.

r106 according to what the sheriffs heard from her son, the boy told them that his mom put him on the boat and never got out of the water. I heard it over and over on the radio that day.

The boats engine was left running, so it was moving while they were in the water. Naya had to get them both to the boat while the boat was moving away from them. She had enough energy to swim them both to the boat, get her son on the boat but not enough energy to get herself out of the water.
On August 25, 2008, 39-year-old Anatoly Naftoli Smolyansky drowned in the lake. Smolyansky was on a boat with his family when his 5-year-old daughter fell into the water. Smolyansky's 9-year-old son aided in his sister's rescue and both children survived. If that’s a man made lake, and it’s full of debris that regularly kills people, why don’t they close it to swimming or something? I doubt the original idea was to create a lake that was so dark and dangerous it would kill people.
“We took them out to the exact spot where the body was found, just off the north point of Diablo Cove,” [Eric] Buschow [of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office] told Us, noting that the late actress’ father, George Rivera, also made a trip to Lake Piru.

These is what's allowed at Diablo Cove:
3. (g) Swimming or wading in Diablo Cove is permissible along the shoreline and in the waters within the 5 miles per hour buoy line of the Cove extending out into the water no more than 50 feet from the shore. Swimming in the deep waters of the Cove is permissible only if the swimmer is swimming off of an anchored boat and so long as the swimmer is within 50 feet of the vessel. It is not permissible to swim in the deep waters of the Cove if swimming from the shore, unless otherwise provided in this policy or if authorized by the District’s General Manager and/or his or her designee.

As mentioned on another thread, it's a man made lake created with a dam to serve as a reservoir for the LA water system. That's why there are so many dead trees and other debris at the bottom; they don't clean those areas out before they dam them up. Perhaps swimming should be forbidden.

by Anonymousreply 21107/14/2020

by Anonymousreply 21207/14/2020

204 she helped him climb onto the boat then disappeared under the water. She didn't toss him on the boat. There is a ladder on back of the boat next to the engine so you can lower yourself into the water from the boat or climb back up into the boat from the water.

This is what her son told the sheriff. You don't have to believe it.

R209 Wait, this is the first time I’m hearing mention of Diablo Cove as being the location of her drowning? Has this been reported somewhere? It was not mentioned in the press briefing, they always referred to the northeastern part of the lake. Did they purposefully leave that out? I’m mean she’s Latina, she would have known it meant Devil, that makes this all much more sinister.

by Anonymousreply 21607/14/2020

Touching tributes.

by Anonymousreply 21707/14/2020

I love how everyone has said how nice and welcoming she was when new people came on board. She is really coming off as the Anti-Lea. I believe she was most likely being nice, but I also hope on some level it was to show up the extreme difference of Lea’s bullying and awfulness as a fuck you to her.

by Anonymousreply 21807/14/2020

It's interesting to me that Ryan Murphy continued to give Lea Michelle and Emma Roberts roles in his projects when Naya Rivera was exponentially more talented than the both combined. It clearly wasn't because Murphy doesn't like actresses with diva attitudes or who are rude to cast and crew.

Sadly, I think the toxicology report is going to reveal Naya was on something and that's what caused her to drown. I know the Twitter stans are creaming over the "she saved her son with her last breath" narrative, but it's pretty clear she was negligent and possibly high. They went into the water without anchoring the boat.

by Anonymousreply 21907/14/2020

R219 you have no basis for that shitty speculation show a little respect. There is nothing to suggest what you contend, you ugly fool.

by Anonymousreply 22007/14/2020

Family probably consulting with lawyers now or will be soon. They’ll make it like she didn’t know about how dangerous it is to swim there without boat being anchored or wearing life jacket, and no posted signs.

by Anonymousreply 22107/14/2020

R216 - I also hadn't seen Diablo Canyon mentioned anywhere else, but it's a direct quote attributed to Eric Buschow of the Sheriff's Department.

According to his words — 'just off the north point of Diablo Cove' — she was just outside the cove and therefore in an area where swimming is prohibited. It looks like swimming is limited to beaches and specific areas of shoreline including some of the coves. I'm not familiar with American descriptors, but in my experience a person familiar with SAR would never use that wording in reference to the tiny point [italic]within[/italic] the cove that way. Also, several reports claimed she was found near the Narrows, also placing her outside of the cove.

Swimming from anchored boats is allowed in specified areas within the coves, but with restrictions. I quoted the Diablo Cove regulations to give an idea of what is and isn't allowed. Even if she had been within it and in an area where swimming is allowed, leaving a running, unanchored boat is verboten, obviously.

Barring the kid falling overboard (which would have been mentioned by now) and her jumping in in a state of panic without thinking about the boat, her actions put a lot of lives in danger.

by Anonymousreply 22207/14/2020

R220 At no time has anybody - including her son - said he fell into the water. Which means she chose to go into the water with her 4 year old without anchoring the fucking boat and leaving the motor running. Not to mention that bizarre parking job. If she wasn't high she was jaw-droppingly irresponsible. That doesn't make it any less tragic or make her an awful mother. It simply means the melodramatic narrative that she saved her son with her last breath miiiight be a bit off.

by Anonymousreply 22307/14/2020

how do you see the pics of the drowned body or are you kidding? i joined imgur but that didn't seem to help.

by Anonymousreply 22507/14/2020

Wonder why Ryan did continue to work with Lea. Could it be no one ever told him how horrible she was? Or was he just blind to it for some reason?

I know at the beginning of the show Lea and Diana lived together. There were blinds that hinted they were lovers. Lea likes to cook and they would have dinner parties and invite the cast over. They seemed like a happy couple living in domestic bliss as well as working together. After some time there were blinds that began hinting at trouble with this pair (Lea/Diana). The blinds talked about how one of the partners was beginning to want others to join in, in the bedroom. Then the blinds talked about the straying partner wilding out and just fucking everyone they could get their hands on. The blind item couple then broke up leaving the faithful partner heartbroken. The faithful partner began to be a problem on the set because of their emotions. At some point in the show you can see that Diana's character began to get sidelined for Lea's character. I remember watching the show with all the gossip in mind and it did seem to be playing out like the gossip indicated.

I mention the gossip wondering if Lea was okay until she and Diana broke up and once they broke up Diana became such a pain in the ass emotionally that Lea turned into the monster. Or maybe all the dick she was taking made her crazy?

by Anonymousreply 22607/14/2020

There is a limit to the information that can be pulled from a 4-year-old, even if he is being interviewed by an expert. We will probably never know exactly how or why Naya drowned, but the "she saved her son before she went under" theory is surely the most comforting one for her family. Barring any evidence to the contrary, and because it is the kindest thing to do, I believe the police are going to allow that to be the last word on this tragedy.

by Anonymousreply 22707/14/2020

Naya was familiar with the lake, she'd been going there for years. Sometimes because we are in familiar territory we get careless, our comfort can make us forget that we still have to make an effort to be safe.

by Anonymousreply 22807/14/2020

While it may seem like the kindest thing for her family, R227, if the Sheriff's Department doesn't speak out on the dangers of a lone adult (in sole charge of a four-year-old child in this case) leaving a running, unanchored boat in order to swim in deep water without a life vest then they're actively endangering other lives, including their own SAR people.

by Anonymousreply 22907/14/2020

R219 I think part of your theory is correct, however she can be under the influence and be a good mother at the same time. While that may sound like a contradiction I am sure her motherly instinct would have kicked in when she sensed danger. So it’s not far fetched to assume her final actions were saving her sons life. That’s how mothers should act.

by Anonymousreply 23007/14/2020

Here 229 another example, on the very same lake.

She most likely did die after saving her son by getting him to the boat and helping him climb aboard.
On August 25, 2008, 39-year-old Anatoly Naftoli Smolyansky drowned in the lake. Smolyansky was on a boat with his family when his 5-year-old daughter fell into the water. by Anonymousreply 23107/14/2020

I'm afraid we will never know the real story given that the only eye witness is a 4 year old. Perhaps for the best...

Do the people that rent those boats not provide some instructions on how to operate the boat?

by Anonymousreply 23207/14/2020

She probably didn’t read any of the posted signs. It sounds like there were a lot of directions about where you can and can’t go. Probably nobody that lives there reads them.

But letting the boat run sounds really dangerous. Before you knew it, the boat would be gone out of your reach. Maybe she got her son on, and was so tired from the struggle she couldn’t catch it. She was a small woman, he was probably heavy to get out of the water.

There were so many mistakes involved, I do think she’d had something to drink. Everything about this suggests carelessness. If it hasn’t been for Covid, she probably would have had friends there and there would have been someone to pull her aboard. Swimming alone with a small child that can’t help you is dangerous. She was probably trying to get him fresh air away from people, but boats and water can be dangerous.

When I was a kid I fell out of a small motorboat. I was wearing a life preserver but I sank pretty far down. I had to kick and push myself up. It seemed to take forever. I can’t swim. I had no idea what to do, I just remembered seeing people swim on tv and I remembered what they did with their feet, so I did that. It was terrifying, looking up and seeing the sun above. I didn’t pop straight up like a cork like you would think.

I feel so sorry for her. Her last moments must have been terrifying, sinking and seeing the light above, and she must have been thinking she had to get back to her son, but she couldn’t save herself. All she could do is hope he stayed on the boat and didn’t try to dive after her. He was too small to know how dangerous it was.

by Anonymousreply 23307/14/2020

Do these pontoon boats have some kind of big ass anchors? Are they on a winch? How would there be an anchor she could have single handedly maneuvered that could keep the boat from moving?

by Anonymousreply 23407/14/2020

I could buy Diana being bi, but not Lea. Lea needs too much attention from men. I wouldn't be shocked if she tried to seduce Groff knowing he was gay.

by Anonymousreply 24107/14/2020

Why wouldn't it have an anchor?

I was basing my post on a Reddit post claiming the Lake Piru rentals were all fitted with the EZ Anchor-Puller system. I should have added a disclaimer. It does make sense though, that they'd try to make things as easy as possible for inexperienced renters.

If true, this is what the switch looks like.

r235 Not difficult to imagine Lea is the same kind of girl who in college finds out a lesbian has a huge crush on her and has no problem soaking up the attention. She's an attention whore, I don't think it mattered in the beginning of Glee that the attention was from Diana. But she grew tired of it and wanted to bring men into their couple and eventually just began to fuck every willing guy she could find.

by Anonymousreply 24307/14/2020

I would look into the rental business to see if they are instructing people properly. Let's hope it was just her negligence of not turning off the boat and not the switch malfunctioning.

cuz' that would be a big lawsuit in the making. $$$$$$$$

by Anonymousreply 24407/14/2020
the EZ Anchor-Puller system.

So why did she bring the child then?

by Anonymousreply 24507/14/2020

R193 yeah I saw leaked photos of her corpse. It was so fat bloated and ugly. OMG it must have been so humiliating and degrading for her to die like that!

by Anonymousreply 24607/14/2020
Do the people that rent those boats not provide some instructions on how to operate the boat?

CCTV footage from the marina shows that an employee from the rental place was on the boat with her for five minutes before she pulled away from dock. I presume he wasn't talking to her about GLEE.

by Anonymousreply 24707/14/2020

The boat didn't kill her.

by Anonymousreply 24807/14/2020

R248 is right. I saw pictures of her corpse and there was no evidence of trauma: just a bloated fat ugly cadaver. So humiliating !

by Anonymousreply 24907/14/2020

The boat rental employee was probably asking her out on a date. Unprofessional ass he was!

Justice for Naya! I hope her family she’s the boating company and. Ventura county!

by Anonymousreply 25007/14/2020

by Anonymousreply 25107/14/2020

OMG you guys her death was so fucking humiliating! She definitely done shit herself!

by Anonymousreply 25207/14/2020

How ironic that the little dark girl who got famous for swimming in the lady pond actually ended up dying in a pond. There’s a lesson to be learned here all you little fairies and dykes........homosexuals go to hell.

Where was it reported that the engine was running, I have only read that the boat was not anchored.

I trust that as part of the investigation law enforcement has checked the vessel for mechanical failures.

It could be what lead to the accident.

by Anonymousreply 25707/15/2020

As these threads draw to a close, I would just like to say thank you to you DLers for making me laugh, and RIP sweet Naya. She really did seem like a sweet lady and this was truly a tragedy.

R258 And remember me to Piccadilly Square!

by Anonymousreply 25907/15/2020

The Shook killed her.

by Anonymousreply 26007/15/2020

R257 one of the early news reports I watched said the boat was in neutral when they found it. It might have been KTLA, but I don’t remember. It was a live report from the scene.

It’s good to hear that they are setting up a college fund, R255.

by Anonymousreply 26407/15/2020

She should've said yes to the Legos.

by Anonymousreply 26507/15/2020

I saw that report, too, R261 (boat was found drifting with the engine in idle).....which suggests that she stopped the boat for them to "jump in & splash around" for a bit.....but she forgot to drop the anchor, or didn't think it was necessary?? And thus, she drowned, trying to get back onto the pontoon boat, as it drifted away in the afternoon winds along Lake Priu?? Occam's Razor, people.

by Anonymousreply 26607/15/2020

What are the odds the kill-switch lanyard was attached to her life jacket, and her life jacket was found lying on the driver's seat?

I'm not a gambler but I can think of worse bets to make.

by Anonymousreply 26707/15/2020

In closing, let us all join hands virtually and say a prayer for Naya. Lord Jesus, last week you decided Naya was more needed in Heaven, rather than here on Earth. May you keep her in your tender and loving arms forever, amen.

by Anonymousreply 26807/16/2020

I think the boy jumped without permission, she went into the water to get him out and couldn't save herself, with the emergency, no time for the anchor or the life jacket. You know he is hiding something!

by Anonymousreply 26907/16/2020

Dropping an anchor in a lake filled with debris and trees seems like a bad idea. The anchor is likely to get stuck on all the trees.

I agree that likely she had the boat idling but the current drifted it away from where they were swimming. Strange though when alone on a lake with little boat traffic to not be keeping an eye on the boat or notice it drifting. There was a ladder on the back of the boat so she just had to push her kid to the ladder. An almost 5 year old can climb up a ladder no problem. I am still not sure why she drowned but I agree with the post above that 'saving her son' makes her death seem heroic and they will likely run with that.

by Anonymousreply 27007/16/2020

Why a mermaid?😳

by Anonymousreply 27107/16/2020

I agree with R270. A child that age is agile enough to climb that ladder with an easy boost.

She could have hung onto the ladder while she boosted him and had him throw down her life preserver once he was aboard.

by Anonymousreply 27207/16/2020
and had him throw down her life preserver once he was aboard.

Well I told her, no Legos, no life preserver. Although I think she missed the last part as she was going under for the third time.

by Anonymousreply 27307/16/2020

And in closing, let us all pray that sweet Naya's spirit will forever bless the brackish waters and mysterious condors of Lake Piru.

by Anonymousreply 27407/17/2020

If she was panicking, all the she could haves in the world are meaningless.

Of course the bitch had to wear all black. As if she's in mourning.

by Anonymousreply 28007/20/2020

Just a thought and I know no mother would probably do this, but isn't it safer in this situation to leave the boy behind, swim to the boat and come back and get him with the boat? The boy was wearing a life jacket, she wasn't and she probably wasted a lot of energy trying to get to the boat with the boy in tow.

by Anonymousreply 28107/21/2020

Colfer writes a touching tribute to Naya and manages to shade Murphy too.

As an actress, Naya could tell a whole story with one expression. It didn’t matter how outrageous the plot was, she spoke with so much authenticity, she made you believe every word she said, and often, you’d forget she was acting at all.

She was never afraid to stand up to authority, she always called out mistreatment where she saw it and she always told you the truth — even when it was hard to hear.

by Anonymousreply 28207/21/2020

I don’t think this was mentioned before, but Naya’s body was found at the same time that her costars were on the shore praying for her.

R281... in normal people I don't think you can underestimate the inherent instinct to protect your child. Rational thought, alternative thoughts probably couldn't occur to her... she was going to get that kid back to safety or die trying. And she did.

by Anonymousreply 28407/23/2020
Just a thought and I know no mother would probably do this, but isn't it safer in this situation to leave the boy behind, swim to the boat and come back and get him with the boat?

There's part of an idea there, but I wouldn't complicate it with all those extra steps.

by Anonymousreply 28707/23/2020

Oof. Netflix has a (mediocre) competition baking show called Sugar Rush. They dropped the most recent season at the end of July. Naya is the guest judge on the second episode.

They did have a nice dedication to her, but still.

by Anonymousreply 28808/15/2020

I just revisited this thread and feel sad all over again. It's still shocking that she is gone.

by Anonymousreply 28908/31/2020

R289, don't be sad, she is now home with the Lord. Where we all hope to be one day.

by Anonymousreply 29008/31/2020

It’s sad that we never really found out what lead to her drowning. The autopsy didn’t find anything wrong with her physically and no drugs so I wonder if maybe there was an issue with the boat that caused it to float away and she tried to swim out with her kid to catch it.

by Anonymousreply 29109/01/2020

Da fuck!?
Naya Rivera was zipping around in a rented pontoon boat on a lake outside of Los Angeles with her young son Josey on the afternoon of July 8 when she reached out to her dad - George Rivera - with a FaceTime call, looking for a bit of advice.
"She would always bounce stuff off me," George, 64, tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview for this week's issue. "And she wanted to go swimming with Josey out in the middle of the lake."
But when his eldest daughter informed him that THE BOAT DIDN'T HAVE AN ANCHOR, George - who was taking a break from remodeling his home in Knoxville, Tennessee, when the call came through - instantly realized that jumping into the lake for a swim was a bad idea.

by Anonymousreply 29206/09/2021
"I could see that the wind was blowing and my stomach was just cringing," recalls George, an avid boater. "I kept telling her, 'Don't get out of the boat! Don't get out of the boat! It will drift away when you're in the water.'"
After about three minutes, their FaceTime call cut out. "It was just heartbreaking," says George, who was left staring at the screenshot he snapped of his daughter in sunglasses and a baseball cap, grinning beneath the boat's canopy with a bright blue sky overhead.
"I had this bad feeling that was just killing me," he remembers.
Within hours of that phone call, the bad feeling George had in the pit of his stomach became reality.

by Anonymousreply 29306/09/2021
Naya drowned after exhausting herself while struggling to get Josey back into the boat after the two went swimming, according to a report released by the Ventura County Medical Examiner.
"It's still pretty much a big blur of pain almost a year later," says George, fighting back tears. "Things are slowly coming a little more into focus, but I don't know if I'll ever find closure from this. I miss her every day."

by Anonymousreply 29406/09/2021

What IS the big deal???? I'm still around AND I have a baby.

by Anonymousreply 29506/09/2021

Why is everyone pretending that she didn't leave her baby boy on that boat alone while she committed suicide?

by Anonymousreply 29606/09/2021

Mostly because her son said something along the lines of "Mommy helped me on the boat and then went to sleep in the water."

Murder-suicide but she couldn't go through with the murder part.

by Anonymousreply 30606/09/2021

R306, I'd almost lean toward that. Although she had White Claws in her bag, I understand there was no impairment like she was hopped up on alcohol or drugs. How in her right mind would she jump into that murky water in the wind while responsible for her child, no boat anchor? Not to mention having the kid in the water as well? This story still shocks me. Hard to believe she's really gone in such a tragic way.

by Anonymousreply 30706/10/2021
she had White Claws in her bag

That's probably what actually killed her.
Although she had White Claws in her bag

by Anonymousreply 31106/10/2021

It would be more interesting if this were a suicide or if she was very drunk or high, but the rather more dull truth is that it was likely an accident from fairly low-key causes. A reminder that many deaths are fairly banal.

She had had a little bit of White Claw, was on meds, didn’t eat properly — not exactly Cory Monteith levels of indulgence but not insignificant when taken together — and went out on the water and then into it in a not very good decision. The combination of stuff in her system very possibly affected her judgment, and/or reaction times to a sudden current, cramp or fatigue.

She drowned probably within a couple of minutes of getting into trouble. Accidental drownings are relatively common and suicides by drowning fairly rare. Often people will say that “X knew boats, X could swim, X wouldn’t do something dumb like jumping in there, this doesn’t make sense!!”, but people frequently overestimate their swimming ability especially in outdoor conditions, and underestimate cold water dangers.

by Anonymousreply 31206/10/2021
suicides by drowning fairly rare

by Anonymousreply 31306/10/2021

She could still be in the cabins on the shore!!

by Anonymousreply 31406/10/2021

I don't buy it R312. She was crazy but not that stupid. She left her son adrift while she committed suicide, but to saddle little Josey with that story for the rest of his life would be cruel.

by Anonymousreply 31506/10/2021

I’d be here for the drama R315 by all means, but all evidence is Rivera died a sadly prosaic and avoidable death.

by Anonymousreply 31606/10/2021

Did any of you see Rivera's self tape for Anita in WSS? She seemed mentally ill.

I don't think she was in her right mind. I got that impression from the CCTV video of her making her way to the rental place. She paid almost no attention to the child. He was behind her as she advanced towards the pontoons.
