by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 9, 2020 5:18 PM |
Who will the Glee curse take next?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 9, 2020 5:21 PM |
There were rumors of Naya making a living as a yacht girl after acting roles dried up. With her history of spousal assault and volatile relationships she might not have been the most emotionally stable person. Maybe the lockdown and no money coming in due to travel restrictions contributed to worsening psychological state. Itâs possible she did go to the lake with the intention of drowning them both but perhaps had change of mind at the last minute.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 9, 2020 5:22 PM |
Has anyone mentioned the Glee curse yet?! Tee hee!@

Coming to the stages of Foreign Broadway this November:
'Jackie on Assistance: The Datalounge Musical'
Starring Sandy Duncan as Jackie, Shawn Mendes as JFK Jr, Kiernan Shipka as Caroline, Nathan Lane as Aristotle Onassis, and Camila Cabello as Christina Onassis.
Produced by Tony Winner Candy Spelling

Mary r32! You stamp that little foot of yours.
It's not like there is anything new to actually talk about right now. I think you will manage to live with some harmless banter.

Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Think on't.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 9, 2020 5:34 PM |
Her instagram is a bunch of pics of her ass. Remember when mothers had class? What a narcissistic psycho.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 9, 2020 5:36 PM |
That would explain her 1.4 million followers. She was an Instaho.

Showing off your ass like you're thinkin' it's a trend. Girlfriend.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 9, 2020 5:37 PM |
If she committed suicide, she obviously wasn't in her right mind. Putting a life vest on the kid after dragging him out on a lake with the intent not to return, sounds exactly like the sort of reasoning a desperately depressed person would make after changing their mind from murder/suicide to just plain suicide.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 9, 2020 5:37 PM |
I was tired of looking at photos of mommy's backside!

Care to share any verified evidence she was desperately depressed or suicidal?
Vague 'inspirational' type tweets aren't evidence, just so you know. They're celebrity social media staples.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 9, 2020 5:40 PM |
With the amount of accidental deaths that lake has scene, are we still thinking it was suicide?!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 9, 2020 5:41 PM |
Iâm just here speculating, but could Naya have been attacked by an alligator? Itâs not unheard of. Also, Naya was very spiritual, no was it suicidal.

Getting married right after splitting from Big Sean says a lot. She was not a well woman.

She went out on a boat with a 4 year old and went missing within hours.

by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 9, 2020 5:44 PM |
She filed for divorce twice from the same person?
Clearly she was hot-tempered. I'm thinking she was in a rage-fit at the time she went out on the lake.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 9, 2020 5:45 PM |
When taking a 4-year old on a fun boat trip, you bring water and snacks and sunscreen and a hat and a towel.
If those things were not on the boat, she did not plan on coming back.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 9, 2020 5:45 PM |
She married him as a consolation prize.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 9, 2020 5:45 PM |
I think she considered this being a final send off for her and the boy, and just couldnât do it. So instead she took one last swim with him and quietly slipped away.
Thereâs also the possibility that she drowned due to an accidental overdose. She took one pill more than usual or forgot that she just took one an hour before or the buzz was wearing off, and she took another one.
Her Instagram pics are that of a very sad young woman, desperately attempting to be happy, and then eventually, giving up.
This is sad as fuck and I find none of this slut-shaming to be OK
Youâre as unhappy as she was if you find this particular occasion to be the time to let it rip with calling her an insta-hoe or degrading her because she wore something you donât find to be modest enough or appropriate.
Some of you here, talking shit her about her style of dress are just profoundly shitty human beings, no matter what your self perceived motives for doing so.
A bad person is a bad person, and bad people never seem to kill themselves at the rate of those who are genuinely suffering with emotional pain, because they feel nothing for anyone, even themselves.

r59 that's not always true. What if she brought all those things, but they were poisoned?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 9, 2020 5:47 PM |
This reminds me of the Nichol Olsen case. Was it a murder-suicide or did the boyfriend murder them? People are always ALWAYS adamant that the pretty smiley mommy couldnât possibly do such a thing. Even when thereâs a long history of instability and acrimony.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 9, 2020 5:47 PM |
r61 is clearly new to the DL. Go back to Twitter to display performative virtue.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 9, 2020 5:48 PM |
So you aren't okay with any slut shaming r61, but you are okay with assuming she was trying to kill herself, murder her child, or that she was a druggie who overdosed.
Got it.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 9, 2020 5:48 PM |

I doubt it was intentional, she seemed devoted to her son:

It was an accident that she wasn't wearing a life vest?
by Anonymous | reply 72 | July 9, 2020 5:50 PM |
Could you imagine the drama if was a murder suicide? Those Glee cast members would be like "Fuck my life!" and hide from social media and the press for months to not answer uncomfortable questions.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | July 9, 2020 5:50 PM |
Quite, R67.
Prepared to believe something more sinister, but absent other factors, so far an accident is most likely scenario. Nothing in her Instagram or Twitter (including the pictures of her ass) suggests she was suicidal.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | July 9, 2020 5:50 PM |
[quote]Clearly she was hot-tempered. I'm thinking she was in a rage-fit at the time she went out on the lake.
And just as well she could've been in fine spirits and looking forward to enjoying a nice day out with her beloved son.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | July 9, 2020 5:51 PM |
What would be worse publicity? If Lea goes into labor the day the body is found or the day of the funeral?
by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 9, 2020 5:52 PM |
It really doesn't need to be anything more complicated than that r70. People drown all the time, many people have drowned in that life.
Shit happens. I get human nature wants there to be more a mystery, I guess it is more comforting for people to look it as a suicide rather than the fact that random accidents happen and people die. Tomorrow is not promised.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | July 9, 2020 5:52 PM |
You must remember, we are living under quarantine rules. Many people are going through anxiety, loneliness, and stress. Naya probably needed a break to get away to find peace.

by Anonymous | reply 84 | July 9, 2020 5:54 PM |
This is awful. I really doubt it was suicide. No sane mother would endanger her child that way. Itâs easy to drown if you are not a strong swimmer.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | July 9, 2020 5:55 PM |
I find suicide via lake drowning highly improbable. Even people who attempted to drown themselves have reported ending up struggling to swim back up for survival -- natural human instinct.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | July 9, 2020 5:55 PM |
When you jump into the lake and the water is freezing, your body can go into shock.

Yes. As a teen, I once stupidly swam [illegally] with friends in another LA-area reservoir in the dead of summer, and water was too fucking cold. Got out after a few minutes.

Actually, slut shaming IS OKAY. Because without it, we're living in a garbage fucking society with sociopaths like the Kardashians (Kris Jenner on first name basis with Joe Francis -- fucking garbage) setting the tone of what's right. SO SLUT SHAME AWAY. Because society is fucking imploding from a lack of any real values!
And no, I'm not a fucking republican. I'm a democrat voting for Biden in November. So spare me the partisan line on having fucking values.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | July 9, 2020 5:59 PM |
Whilst suicide is fairly common, suicide involving children is not. Some mothers do kill / plan to kill their children and do commit suicide in front of their children, but both are rare. As is drowning yourself as a method. With the kid and a lake involved, an accident is the most likely answer.
Very possibly, Rivera was not thinking clearly and jumped in after a phone or something, did not wear a life vest, failed to properly pay attention to her surroundings and hit her head, etc, none of those mean she meant this.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | July 9, 2020 5:59 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 99 | July 9, 2020 6:01 PM |
Weird attitude R95. Slut-shaming is judging women to keep their behavior âin lineâ, men do not usually get the same level of scrutiny. Thinking youâre better than other people usually doesnât make you better than them actually.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | July 9, 2020 6:03 PM |
How can a heavy boat drift away so fast that a trained swimmer can't swim after it and climb back into the boat? If the water is cold wouldn't the swimmer swim even faster and climb back into the boat go get out of the cold?
What about the ultra strength of mothers when they think their kids are in danger? Why didn't Naya's surival instinct kick in to get herself back on that boat to be with her son?
The only scenario that could make sense is that she slipped, bumped her head and was unconscious when she fell into the water and drowned. But even then the cold water must have been some shock to the system and wake her up.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | July 9, 2020 6:03 PM |
You readily suggest Rivera wasn't thinking clearly but not thinking clearly couldn't have resulted in suicidal ideation and completion of suicide? What's your agenda?
by Anonymous | reply 102 | July 9, 2020 6:04 PM |
Iâm wondering if Lea wishes she would have been nicer to her now?
by Anonymous | reply 103 | July 9, 2020 6:04 PM |

I noticed that her car parking skills werenât great, which might be a clue.

R102 I have no agenda, simply noting on the stats that it is rare (although not unheard of) for a mother to commit suicide with her children present and/or to plan to kill them too. So the evidence so far points towards accident. By ânot thinking clearlyâ I simply meant not concentrating on safety measures she should have.
I love drama as much as the next DLer but lake + kid = probably an accident. May well be proven wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | July 9, 2020 6:06 PM |

You're using stats as evidence for Naya Rivera's death?
by Anonymous | reply 109 | July 9, 2020 6:07 PM |
It has been suggested that the rental company have to ensure people taking a boat out are wearing life jackets, so Naya would have been wearing one but she took it off. To go swim in brackish waters? Leaving her child unsupervised? Make it make sense.

R68, have you ever seen a nude breast? Because that photo you posted is not that.
R67, I am speculating, just like everyone is, and that includes the police diving units and investigators attempting to figure out why a young mom is gone, & her baby boy is alone, for more than 24 hours on a pontoon.
Obviously, they have at the very least, assumed her to be deceased. You think they havenât speculated multiple scenarios in order to establish why her presumed death is either a suicide, or not? Why the boy is living. What her state of mind was???
They certainly are. What theyâre not doing is looking at her IG posts, calling her an Insta-Hoe.
Stop throwing your false equivalencies at me. Iâm not calling her a slut or a hoe. I am wondering what, where, how and why, like everyone else.
Grow up, brat.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | July 9, 2020 6:18 PM |
Thanks R124, thatâs interesting. If she had a tote bag with âboatâ things then it all looks a more reasonable trip.
I donât find it weird that she left her phone in the car, maybe itâs brand new and sheâs worried about it being damaged, maybe she wanted to digital detox and took an old fashioned camera to take pictures with the kid. Some people take breaks from their phone.

by Anonymous | reply 136 | July 9, 2020 6:23 PM |
So weird how often this happens. I knew an actress in Austin who drove down a road at night and plunged off a peer into Lake Austin in her car. The odd thing was it was maybe only four feet where she landed but she was freaked by water and drowned anyway. (Maybe the car pinned her in, who knows). Awful.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | July 9, 2020 6:24 PM |
You'd like to take your four year old out in this alone?
by Anonymous | reply 138 | July 9, 2020 6:24 PM |
Oh or was Dolores just drinking? Well, anyway. Drink or drugs will make drowning a lot easier in a bath, never mind a lake.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | July 9, 2020 6:25 PM |
Lol R138.
It looks like any other lake.
What are you afraid of? The Loch Ness monster?
Omg.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | July 9, 2020 6:25 PM |
A surprising amount of drownings and boating accidents involve alcohol. I'm not saying she was intoxicated but that is a more likely cause of her ending up in the water than some dramatic murder-suicide plot. Maybe she had a few drinks, dropped something overboard, and went in after it or lost her balance and fell in - and yes, lots of people who should know better take part in water activities with their children while under the influence. It's not all that uncommon to see people sipping on a drink operating a boat.

Which actress, R137?
by Anonymous | reply 142 | July 9, 2020 6:26 PM |
Holy fuck, R138, MARY!! I grew up going to the lake for the summer and each of my parents took me out in boats alone. It's not unusual for lake people at all.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | July 9, 2020 6:27 PM |
OMG? Have you ever attended to a four year old? While at the wheel of a boat?
by Anonymous | reply 144 | July 9, 2020 6:27 PM |
r143
At four years old? Nah, your parents went together.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | July 9, 2020 6:28 PM |
I agree R141. If we want to think Rivera did something wrong here, I agree it is much more likely than murder-suicide, that she had a couple of drinks or took some prescription meds and misjudged her ability to swim, or lost her balance.
Itâs amazing how many people go around for a lot of the day somewhat intoxicated... (not judging, Iâve been there, not with kids or while driving though).
by Anonymous | reply 146 | July 9, 2020 6:29 PM |
Same here r143. And it was also not unusual for the kids to be wearing their life jackets while the parents took theirs off.

In one of her recent Ig post, she seemed looking forward to start filming a new tv series. Or was that shelved?
by Anonymous | reply 149 | July 9, 2020 6:32 PM |
No, R144,but I've been that four year old.
At times, R145, but not always.I can remember going with my mother across the lake to my aunt and uncle's cabin in a boat. A four year old is perfectly capable of sitting in the passenger seat, or even in the lap of the driver. When I was a preschooler, I'd sit on my dad's lap and he'd "let" me steer. Then again, my parents were very used to boats, lake life, and water safety.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | July 9, 2020 6:32 PM |
She was booked for a TV version of "Step Up" on Starz.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | July 9, 2020 6:32 PM |
Sadly, lots of people, R148. If we are speculating then thatâs much more likely to be the case than Rivera deciding to kill the kid and herself.
Peaches Geldof in the U.K. was shooting up heroin when alone with a baby and managed to overdose, so clearly some mothers make bad choices.

People who commit suicide do not always look or behave depressed in the immediate period leading up to it. They also don't always leave suicide letters for a myriad of reasons, one of them being life insurance payout for surviving family members. This is why some will make it appear to be an accident. In the case of mothers choosing to commit murder-suicide with their children, vast majority presented as loving, perfect mothers as described by loved ones. There are however, shared commonalities of distressed psychological state and feeling constrained by lack of alternatives in these cases.
As for sleuths who point out happy or vapid IG photos as evidence of the person not being distressed enough to kill herself, that is a simplistic view. IG portrays an image of how the poster wants the world to view her, it is a simulated reality of a snapshot in time and not reality itself. Also consider that Naya was an actress who was heavily invested in her own outward appearance, so why wouldn't her IG account be full of preening photos of her ass or plastic-looking face and body? It doesn't mean that she wasn't psychologically distressed or suicidal.
We may never know why/ how Naya ended up drowning in the middle of a brackish reservoir that's not known as a popular swimming area when there are many others in the area to choose from . That's not the choice spot for swimming especially by yourself as the lone adult looking after a toddler. I'm sorry but that fact jumps out at me. Second, the details of her personal life fits the profile of someone with risk factors for depression and suicide. Perhaps there were some undiagnosed mental health conditions, I don't know. In our practice and at the mental health support group that I helped run, I'd say that suicides and suicidal ideations tend to steeply increase under trying times, with bipolar folks are at the highest risk. At. one point in the support group we had 3 suicides within a span of 2 months and more instances of suicidal ideations after that.
I'd be interested in reading the transcript of Josey's interview by the police. It would also be helpful to get him seen by a child psychologist who specialize in trauma ASAP, because he'll be needing psych interventions starting now. The child psychologist would also use more appropriate interviewing skills to gain better details into what occurred with Naya. Sometimes children this age do not show signs of trauma until later when they have processed things more clearly. But at this age they are able to provide pertinent details, the key is for specialists to use proper techniques that would also support his acute psychological needs right now. He might be blocking some details out subconsciously at this point even if he's not fully able to comprehend the finality of his mother's death.

Overall, though, I think the most important takeaway from all this is that the water is BRACKISH. Please don't fail to mention that in your speculative, redundant posts.

Naya really was the best thing the show had going for it in his later years. The early seasons were still the best with Jane Lynch and Matthew Morrison mostly carrying the show with good gay representation. The latter years were marred by behind the scenes drama that kept leaking to the public, an increasingly toxic fanbase, writers incorporating fan fiction into the show, and pointless SJW subplots. The musical selections worsened over the years, focusing more on current top 40 hits that were already dated by the time they were featured on television.

Piru is not a small, quaint lake that you use to hit up another side of the lakeshore, and dock your speedboat in your friendâ slip, or quickly get on your jet ski to visit another friendâs cabin, 1/2 a mile away from yours. Iâve spent weeks long vacations at Arrowhead, Big Bear and as a kid, the Catskills. Huge bodies of water, all of them, but not all as unique as Piru, in that Piru, was a place to hit up on weekends, and only for a weekend, with tents or an RV, etc. Most people go their with their boats.m, too. Either pulled by a big ass truck, or the RV. Lots of young kids, as in teens in HS, college, and young adults. It is a place to go to with 20 of your friends, and the biggest group event 97% or more that is pursued? Drinking. And drinking all day, all weekend, until you finally drive home on Sunday afternoon.
Arrowhead, Big Bear & the Catskills were family environments, where the family went every year and rented the same cabin and had access to the water-crafts at the cabin, or brought your own. Thereâs partying, but itâs not like Piru or Castaic. More varied and mellow crowd.
Pontoons at Piru usually = a Saturday or Sunday, MAYBE the weekend, lots of weed and beer, & grilling. Speed boat at Lake Arrowhead usually = 3 to 7 day stay, rented cabin, or family cabin, no booze bottles, or bongs, no loud music, politeness & discretion.
Piru = partying on the weekend with a bunch of friends. Arrowhead = close family members and/or, a few close friends.
I have no idea why Naya was out in Piru, all by herself & no other adult, & her small son. Iâd do that with my kid at Arrowhead, not Piru. Also, no risks or chances regarding life vests, ever. Lake people know this, even flat-footers who live down the mountain know this. People do drown, regularly, and you hear about it all the time.
I cannot understand the location, the isolation, the lack of adult company, especially a male, when at Piru in a Pontoon, & you take your phone or a walkie. Thatâs normal, & not weird. The pontoon probably had one, plus some sort of rudimentary yet effective GPS.
Why was her 4 year old sleeping? Almost peacefully & unafraid, when located in the pitch black night, in the middle of a cold lake? Was he given a sedative that allowed him to sleep peacefully? And where exactly did mommy go, and what does the boy mean, when expressing âshe left and didnât come back on the boatâ paraphrasing.
Her latest and last IG post specifically says: âJust the 2 of usâ. She & the boy appear to be in the sunlight, and have wet hair, wet skin, & look as if though both had been just jumped out of a pool or a body of water, after full head to toe immersion, right before the photo was taken, by a phone she had in her car, that she specifically did not want on a pontoon, alone with her son, on a weekday.
by Anonymous | reply 240 | July 9, 2020 9:13 PM |
Continued from R240
The police like know she took her life, & probably sedated the boy before sedating herself, & slipping away. She did not want to leave him alone in the house. She needed time for privacy and to achieve her goal. She lived the boy, & sedated him well enough for him to be found sleeping, instead of terrified that his mommy has suddenly disappeared, & he is all alone in the middle of a fucking lake, in pitch black water, in the pitch black night, screaming his head off, hyperventilating, & even drowning by trying to find her.
She was not well, & I am sorry this boy no longer has his mom, who clearly loved him very much, & did the best she could.
Am I wrong? Very possibly so, since Iâm wrong often, but unfortunately, I donât believe thatâs the case here.
Depression is the blackest, smallest, cramped & oxygen deprived tunnel ever, & it talks, reminds you to lose hope, give up, & stop being afraid of stopping the pain. It does this relentlessly & daily. Ideation & a vague yet, romanticized sense of an unknown yet, promised âreliefâ reverberates & echoes in this tunnel, & thereâs though there is an exit, sometimes, we cannot find that exit or see the light that leads us out alive. And if we re-visit that tunnel often? One day we find it easier to stay in there, & get some sleep.
All of this makes total sense, to those of us who have been inside that tunnel, even if just once.
by Anonymous | reply 241 | July 9, 2020 9:14 PM |
Yes I don't know what r237 is talking about.
It doesn't matter if it is natural or man made when it comes to drowning. Drowning in fresh water can happen in as few as 2-3 minutes. Salt water takes 8-10 minutes.
[quote]Surprisingly, you can die from breathing in fresh water even hours after you have avoided drowning in it. This is because fresh water is more "diluted" with respect to ions than the fluid inside your lung cells. Fresh water doesn't cross into your skin cells because keratin essentially waterproofs them, but water will rush into unprotected lung cells to try to equalize the concentration gradient across the cell membranes. This can cause massive tissue damage, so even if the water is removed from your lungs there is still a chance you might not recover.
[quote]Here's what happens: Fresh water is hypotonic compared to lung tissue. When water enters the cells, it causes them to swell. Some of the lung cells may burst. Because capillaries in your lungs are exposed to the fresh water, water enters the bloodstream, diluting your blood. This causes blood cells to burst (hemolysis). Elevated plasma K+ (potassium ions) and depressed Na+ (sodium ion) levels may disrupt the heart's electrical activity heart, causing ventricular fibrillation. Cardiac arrest from the ion imbalance may occur in as little as two to three minutes. Even if you survive the first few minutes underwater, acute renal failure may occur from the burst blood cells in your kidneys. Presumed dead. Death is seen as an accident with no sign of foul play.
[quote]During a press conference, Ventura County Sheriff Deputy Chris Dyer confirmed that there are "no signs of foul play" and "no signs of anything that went wrong besides a tragic accident. "The goal is still to bring Ms. Rivera home to her family so that they can have closure," he stated.

About Lake Piru, from the Ventura County Sheriff Deputy (c/p from Daily Mail):
'The senior officer said at this point all signs point to this being a horrible accident.
âThere was no collision or signs of struggle,â he said. âWe are using our helicopters, we are using our dive teams, we are using sonar equipment and our unmanned aerial drone team.
âItâs extremely difficult to search this lake, it goes from depths of 40ft to 5ft.
âVisibility in the daytime is 8 to 10 inches. At nighttime itâs zero. Everywhere you see a buoy on the lake is a low part.
âThereâs full-grown trees and debris under the lake. Itâs been a couple years since someone drowned here in Lake Piru, that an accidentâs happened in the lake, but it has happened before,' he said.
He added that wind 'plays a big part' on the lake because it pushes debris around.
'This is also a dammed lake, so there is a drain that when open can pull things toward it too. Thereâs a lot of different variables here, itâs not like the ocean but there definitely is a life to the lake. Itâs not just still or stagnant.'

Almost every scene Heather Morris had was with Naya. Heather was a dancer, not actress, same as Harry Shum. They liked the way she delivered the very few lines they gave her throughout season one so much they upped her to regular cast member for season 2 and got her acting lessons and had Naya basically be her coach and mentor during their scenes together

Suicide by drowning is more common than 1% someone cited earlier. Also, using statistics as supportive evidence in an individual case is really not helpful. Suicide by drowning accounts for approximately 3-8% of suicide rates in areas with easy access to water. It is also easier to fake suicide as accidental drowning as opposed to firearms or overdose. We may never know with this case because short of her being found with weights used to tie herself down or suicide letter, authorities usually rule similar deaths as accidental drowning.

Man, there are a lot of ghouls on this thread. I think it was an accident. The details will emerge eventually.
As point of interest, Southern California reservoirs are at normal levels. Piru would be "brackish" in a draught year. Now it would be swimmable on a hot day, especially if you knew the lake and were a strong swimmer. Which apparently she did and was.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | July 9, 2020 10:04 PM |
So the boy could not communicate that mommy struggled and screamed for help, or thrashed about, before not coming back?
And why was he sleeping? He could have been exhausted, but as a kid, getting separated from my mom in a department store or supermarket at the tender age of 4, was a terrifying event, where I screamed my lungs out, even for a few seconds after the panic set in, and I realized I couldnât see or find my mom.
Same thing if she left me at a babysitterâs. I was awake and aware that I was being left with my grandma, yet cried and panicked, because I wanted my mommy.
He was found sleeping. OK. Fine.
If this was an accident, and if it involved nothing but bad luck, and not an accidental bento or pain pill overdose, and even if drugs and alcohol or either one, were involved, this tragic situation is why even the most experienced person, who is actually pretty familiar with the lake theyâre navigating, especially Piru, just doesnât take any chances, doing it all alone, without another adult, ever.
The lake is nothing but weeds and peoples and rocks at the shoreline, and depending on where you launch off from or embark upon when not in a slip, there are exposed, thick roots from tress, and more rocks, and zero clarity in the water, because itâs a man made lake, iirc, and not a naturally occurring one.
Itâs like being in a dark brown, isolated, swimming hole that is HUGE, cold, oftentimes windy, while void of naturally occurring Forestry, flora, fauna, or inviting shorelines.
Itâs not ideal when out with a small child, unless you stay close to the shore that has the pontoon/jet ski rental area, so that people can visually spot you from the shore.
Never take off a vest when out in the middle of a lake, especially a murky, huge, man made one.
RIP.
This poor kid. I hope he doesnât really understand what he saw, if he saw his mom drown.

No way would I dive after my phone in an open body of water. Itâs useless. The phoneâs gone in 5-15 seconds because even in broad daylight, you cannot see your feet when swimming in that shithole.
Iâm sorry, I know people like it there, & Iâve been there, several times. However, the experience is nothing but either sitting on manmade grassy areas, concrete benches and picnic tables, tiny pebbles to sharp, small rocks to large boulders, depending on where you were camped out, hot as hell weather by day, and cold nights, while camping on shore pebbles and patches of grass here and there, underneath your tent. Dehydration, sun damage, and horrible hangovers.
Not my scene.
Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear are worth the uphill drives, fresh air, and cabin rentals offering clean beds, normal and modern living quarters/amenities, restaurants, nice people, working running water and plumbing offering a private shower. You can have total privacy to. Drive up on your Harley, & itâs fun as hell. Easy in and out.
Piru is truly an odd choice. Even for a day run. Especially after the age of 25, and thatâs pushing it.

Lake Piru victims:
In August 1994, 27-year-old Jesus Danilo Carranza from North Hollywood drowned while on an outing with his family despite wearing a life jacket.
In July 1997, Liborio Dominguez from Long Beach drowned while trying to rescue his daughter. The young girl was saved, but Dominguez's body was not discovered until several days later.
In September 1997, 22-year-old Isidro Castillo from Newhall encountered problems while swimming and called for his girlfriend to throw him a buoy. The woman was unable to get the flotation device to him. His body was found a day later.
In September 1997, rescue workers recovered the body of 30-year-old Port Hueneme resident Ulises Anthony Mendoza, who was last seen struggling days earlier while swimming with family members near their boat.
In 1997, park officials speculated that wind gusts and deep columns of chilly water on the lake, which is up to 160 ft deep depending on the time of year, can overtake swimmers quickly.
In February 1998, the body of Lake Piru employee Arthur Raymond Caladara was found drowned near the dock.
In June 1998, the body of 30-year-old Vy Xuan Dang from Garden Grove, who disappeared while swimming with his family during the Memorial Day weekend, was found by a park ranger.
In September 2000, 25-year-old Van Nuys resident Edie Cruz, swam the short distance to his stalled radio-controlled model boat, and drowned only 10 feet from shore. Douglas West, Lake Piru's parks and recreation services manager, said there had been about a dozen drownings during his 23 years at the lake. Most victims are inexperienced swimmers who are not wearing life jackets and who overestimate their own abilities or swim in prohibited areas.
Naftoli Smolyanksy died in a boating accident in August 2008. Smolyansky had taken his 9-year-old son and 5 and 7-year-old daughters out on the lake Monday afternoon when his youngest daughter fell off the boat. He jumped into the water to save her, and managed to get her back on the boat as it drifted away. Smolyanksy was unable to swim to the boat and did not resurface.

Where did Naya live? Depending on that, Piru could have been a shorter drive with more opportunity for anonymity and privacy than Big Bear or Arrowhead.
Big Bear is more where Angelenos go for mountain cabin rentals for a weekend with family or friends. It would be a long haul for just a day trip.

People can drown very silently. They often don't yell for help or thrash around, they just slip under the water. Could be a weak swimmer with a strong current, could be getting caught in debris below the surface, could be a mix of intoxicants and water, could be diving in and hitting your head, could be the boat drifted and exhaustion set in.

I'm not torn up but the dumb conjecture and suicide fantasies here are a bit much. Reminds me of the idiots on the Nick Cordera thread who refuse to believe he didn't have a preexisting condition. It's always shut ins with anxiety disorders and big mouths who believe that they somehow can avoid mistakes or accidents or DEATH. So they must find reasons or excuses or conspiracy theories to explain why a young well known person dies. To calm THEIR own disastrous nervous system.
We don't know what happened. Why would her friends and loved ones comment on her loss now - when nothing has been announced and only vultures are circling a likely death? Naya famously loved to tan. She might have gone into the water without a life jacket just to get wet. Or lost her balance, hit her head and drowned. I don't really care. She's most likely dead. Of an everyday accident. And that her beautiful little boy was found safe. As she would want.

And hereâs the saddest part. She wanted a fun day with her kids and probably had been to that lake when she was a small kid, with her parents, and watched adults swim. If she went there often, she felt confident and safe.
Iâve never been reckless in the water, lakes included. I did get pulled over for speeding and got a warning, realizing that lakes are more dangerous than speeding trough Topanga at 100mph, ESPECIALLY with all of the drunk fucks who will ruin boats, kill water skiers, and go right over swimmers who thought theyâd take a quick dive in, seeing no one in sight, until suddenly, thereâs a boat that came out of nowhere, literally, and itâs coming at their head.
This happens ALL the time at lakes, and Iâve gotten out of riptide more easily and successfully than when swimming out from the boat on a moderately not too windy but windier than I imagined, day. If not with others who can steer to you ASAP, yeah. You can drown. Even with a vest.
Something about being inside the water when the wind hits. Itâs no longer just a lake. Itâs a bunch of medium to large sized waves, that donât break, donât hit you, but also do not stop going over your nose and mouth, allowing you a second to catch your breath without lots of water suddenly in your nose and airways. If you get easily scared and arenât a fast reactor and know how, you panic and youâre done in seconds.
Poor Naya. Man.

As the show went on, it became like a bizarre afterschool special, attempting to be serious while still trying and failing to recapture the irreverence of the first few seasons. Former âGleeâ actress Naya Rivera, who has been missing after swimming in Lake Piru in Ventura County on Wednesday, had experience boating there, authorities said on Thursday. Investigators also said they believe Rivera âdrowned in what appears to be a tragic accident.â
Rivera had rented a boat at Lake Piru, a reservoir near Santa Clarita in nearby Los Angeles county, which departed from the dock around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. She was swimming with her 4-year-old son when, for unknown reasons, she submerged and did not resurface.
In a press conference on Thursday, Kevin Donoghue, sergeant at the Ventura County Sheriffâs Office, said that Riveraâs 4-year-old son, who was found alone on the boat in the middle of the lake, told investigators enough information that made them âconclude that his mother never made it out of the water.â
He also said that there are trees, roots and weeds underwater that could cause entanglements. Rivera had experience boating on this lake before, while her son did not.
The Sheriffâs department has also recovered video evidence from the dock that shows only Rivera and her son boarding the boat. Investigators will release the footage to the public shortly.
âWeâve had no indication after talking to her son that Ms. Rivera made it to shore, so our focus is in the water at this time,â he explained, adding that authorities are searching the northern half of the lake, a search area about 30 feet wide.
He also said that swimming is permitted in the lake because there are no strong undercurrents. Although divers have been searching the water and shorelines, there has been no sign of Rivera. Earlier on Thursday, the search and rescue operation shifted to a recovery. Officials are using sonar technology in the search.

R327 July is slow for news, BLM protests are over and everyone is tired of coronavirus (which hasnât taken out any celebs even as famous as someone best-known from a show cancelled several years ago, as yet).
I am also sure Glee is known in some quarters for simply being the kidsâ show where the cast keep having unfortunate things happen, including in particular dying, and some ghoulishness is setting in re global media.

r321 the Twitter comments are inane. There's the ones who are more concerned about little (likely matricidal) Josey being misgendered, there's those who are saying they're not looking for her because she's not white, there's those saying "PLEASE FIND HER! DON'T GIVE UP!" like they're "giving up", there's the nasty responses to people being logical and not grandstanding to try to win Twitter clout, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 336 | July 9, 2020 11:22 PM |
r321 it's also good that the guy pointing out logic to idiots seems to be handling the equally idiotic responses, such as:
"You literally reply to everyoneâs comment just shitting on them for feeling some type of way. Letâs us have some hope. Naya meant a lot to many different people for different reasons."

R336 itâs at times like this â by which I mean every day â that Twitter shows the hive mind that gives inane or simply entirely factually incorrect tweets, say, 80 RTs and 142K Likes or whatever.
There are people who think search and rescue not overworking their crew on what is realistically a body recovery operation at this point, in water with extremely limited visibility is âgiving upâ and who are imploring the police to âcheck Jane Does in hospitalâ for Hollywood actress Naya Rivera whose face has been all over national and international media for the last 24 hours.

I didn't find this but someone else did and found this from her Facebook:
[quote] . . . her Facebook. A while ago she filmed a video of herself underwater in her bathtub saying something about gravity pulling her down. She has been charged with battery against her baby daddy. They got into a fight after she let the baby roll away in the stroller and walked away or something like that. He was very angry about it and said he couldn't believe she would do that.
Can't verify its veracity or even if this came from her FB but I have no particular reason to disbelieve the person who found it. I don't know this Naya so I don't know who her child's father is.
Someone suggested upthread they'd not reveal if it was suicide but, of course, they would if that was the coroner's/ME's conclusion. Real MEs do more than just the autopsy. The investigation would include interviews, review of her computer/phone devices. Perhaps a consult with forensic psychologist. Though they wouldn't conclude suicide without good evidence of it.

R383, obviously it depends on the circumstances of the video. I didn't see it or hear it. That's why you need a forensic psychologist to look at any possible clues such as pre-occupation with water or drowning or a fatalistic attitude developing after experiencing problems. They look at ordinary things (as you point out) and see if there is some pattern or psychological basis for concern.
I don't know the details of the alleged incident with the child. Don't even know if it's at all true. But there may be a clue in her past behavior with the child - and I don't mean cute photos on her IG account.
Whatever the cause it is extremely sad. All this fame and attention and money can just create more issues for the kind of already troubled people that are often attracted to the performing side of the industry. No offense to stable performing artists.

Why park so far away from the ramp?
Why give a small child a huge bag to carry?
She leaves the kid standing on the opposite side of the car as she unloads the car. Dangerous in a parking lot.
She walks far ahead of the kid as they walk to the dock. This is dangerous, not to mention probably made the kid feel lonely.
I see parents doing this shit with small kids all the time. Usually telltale sign of a shitty parent.
For that matter, she didnât have ANY friends or family who could have come along? I know itâs frowned upon during lockdown, but it isnât safe to be alone in an isolated area on a boat with a small child.

[quote]R585 How long does it usually take for a drowned body to resurface?
Unfortunately, I have watched too many crime shows, and know some bodies never surface. They could be caught on something underwater... or even if they do drift to shore, get carried off by wildlife.

Maybe she broke her brack on something when she fell into the water and she couldn't swim to the surface.

If they haven't found her by now, she can't be easily found. She'll probably surface in weeks or months, long after the general public has moved on.

I haven't looked at part 1 but has anyone here actually been on this lake to testify to said "brackishness"? I used to go out to Lake Berryessa when I was but a wee fruit, and hated how dank the water was, but it wasn't THAT bad. It looked very similar to what this lake looks like. To me, (it is all about me) brackish is usually a disgusting color, horrible smell, gooey texture, and you get the no-no feeling (I'm on my 4th G&T allow me my infantile stupidity) in your gut that it is bad to swim in, let alone take a fucking pleasure cruise on it.
