I’ve been telling y’all for 20 years that the GOP will never get rid of Roe v Wade & you don’t believe me, though you’ve seen evidence again & again. The GOP talks a good game about RvW because it gets them votes. It was a genius move for the GOP to latch onto RvW in 1973, produce anti abortion films & full color anti-abortion brochures. They got not only the evangelicals, but a group who never voted GOP before — Catholics.

Catholics were democrats. They were blue collar union members. Republicans were Protestants who looked down their noses at Catholics & Catholics knew it. Republicans were country club, Catholics were Knights of Columbus.

I was in my last year of Catholic HS when RvW was decided & the church immediately pounced only it. My school, which had been antiwar, pro civil rights & pro labor, changed course almost overnight. It became all about abortion. I couldn’t understand why nuns & priests — who didn’t give birth to their own children — would be so concerned with whether or not someone else had children.

So for the first time in US history, the Protestants & Catholics who’d hated each other & belonged to different parties came together. The church abandoned its anti war position and called all of its nuns & priests out of Central America, where they were helping the poor with what republicans branded “liberation theology“ (ie, helping people survive the US military’s secret wars down there). The church had been looking the other way with regards to contraception once the Pill came out & some of the younger nuns & priests were even believed to be bringing contraceptives to poor people in countries where contraception was prohibited. That all stopped.

Civil rights? Forget about it. The rights of fetuses took precedence over all other rights. Labor unions? Never mind. Labor was being exported anyway, so labor unions werent so important anymore. Air conditioning made southern states & southern countries more attractive for factory owners & businesses. You can’t fight progress when it comes to making money.

The GOP goaded catholics more & more with dismembered fetus pics until they converted. The GOP has raised billions of dollars & gotten hundreds of millions of votes over the years due to abortion.

They will never, ever federally outlaw it, nor will they allow states to completely outlaw it. Brett Kavanaugh et al know exactly what their roles are....... and they know exactly what John Roberts’ role is.
