Chadwick Boseman gets dropped off at the ER
[quote]CHADWICK Boseman was seen in a wheelchair as he entered a Los Angeles hospital emergency room on Friday. The 42-year-old Black Panther star was dropped off at a Santa Monica medical center by his rumored fiancée, Taylor Simone, two months after fans expressed concern over his drastic weight loss.[quote]
What's wrong with him?

If he's getting "dropped off" at the hospital, he's probably going into detox for drug addiction.
Based on his drastic weight loss and facial wasting, I'm guessing meth.

He has been losing weight since 2018. It really started to go down even more last year and then that video came out in April.
He has another action film lined up in addition to a second Black Panther film. It's a lot of pressure to deal with, I imagine.
Whatever the case, I wish him good health.

r46 I know that from experience, because I am a man and I had anorexia at 20-21 years old. But, aside from being a man and a little older than the average anorexic when I first developed the disease, I fit the stereotype of the disease very well: high grades, obsessive-compulsive traits such as being rigid and perfectionist, bookish and retiring, etc.
I agree with part of what you said, that he seems to have overachieved in his youth, but there is no evidence that he possesses any of the other correlates of the disease.
In addition to personality and psychopathological factors, the age factor is of enormous importance in the development of anorexia. I read in a scientific publication that at least some experts on the subject consider it impossible to develop anorexia after the age of 25. There are older people with the disease, but these are chronic cases, developed at a younger age.
That someone - especially a straight black man, perhaps the sociodemographic group least concerned with body weight and personal beauty - would develop anorexia in middle age, would shock many experts on the subject.

R46, I respect your personal share and appreciate you sharing the additional information. I have no idea what his youth was like and if he developed the disease when he was younger. Being a man, he was less likely to have developed it in his younger years, but I have no idea if he did/didn't, and this is a resurgence in his adult years with the pressures of his recent success being a trigger, anymore than some of the other theories on here like he's a DL brother who contracted HIV, which has turned into AIDS (I mean, seriously?) or that he's a meth head (jfc).
My main point is that the speculation in this thread is unfortunate, and I just hope he gets well. It's really none of my business as to why he's sick.
But, apparently (according to another thread), I need to just STFU about these things.

I saw the Spike Lee movie. He was barely in it. He was the guy in the flashbacks. Spike probably knows he is sick, and what's wrong with him. R46 You're right, anyone- including straight men- can develop anorexia. Type-A overachievers of any demographic are prone to it (comorbid with OCD,) and it's usually brought on by inadequate coping with extreme stress.
I was actually thinking it might orthorexia, though, which is not uncommon with vegetarians. You basically end up starving yourself because you obsess about the purity of your food to the point that you barely eat.

R119 The age of private admissions is pretty much over. Now most doctors in hospitals are hospitalists that will triage the admission through the ER with the ER staff. Most non-rural hospitals are run by corporation who have eomployee medical staff that work for the corporation. Hospitals can risk losing Medicare funds if they overadmit, in addition.

I think disordered eating (not necessarily anorexia or orthorexia) is still a possibility. The way they force these Marvel actors into insane diets, workout regimes, and probably steroid cycles (or at least something very similar to steroids) and automatically get them a Mens Health tie-in cover to promote the movie, can’t be good for body image. Also the yoyo effect between doing that and other movies until they have to get back on the hamster wheel to prepare for the sequel.
My other instinct was Sickle Cell Anemia. It’s sadly a lot more common in the black community and in many cases it looks a lot like this. T-Boz from TLC famously had it back in the day and was often too frail to perform (they cancelled a lot of dates because of it).
Hopefully he's okay. There were photos of him a few months ago using a stick while walking down the street to help him balance. He seems very frail, and this is obviously not a short-term problem.

I’m pretty sure it is not sickle cell, which almost always is identified in early childhood. Sickle cell is a disease that results in misshapen hemoglobin cells, which carry oxygen through the body. People with sickle cell need to avoid sickle cell crisis triggers, and that includes high activity exercise that taxes the body’s need for oxygen. Any medical exam for a film like Black Panther would likely pick this up and would never allow the vigorous and prolonged training needed to produce the physique for that movie. HIV would also likely have been included in insurance tests, and unless he declined antiretroviral treatment for some stupid naturopathy it shouldn’t advance to an AIDS-like wasting appearance. I’m going to say it’s cancer with meth addiction as a less likely option. Sad.
I think he might have cancer,m

R174 some addictions require a medically supervised detox, which some hospitals offer and some but not many drug treatment programs do. Detox is often required for benzodiazepine addiction because of the significant risk to life of that particular withdrawal. Sever alcoholism too. Others not so much unless the person has polysubstance addiction wither one of the above. I am less up on meth treatment since meth addiction is not as widespread in NYC area where I am as it is in other parts of country.

If this was caused by a disease rather than an addiction or food issues I wonder why Disney is keeping this under wraps?
If it's something like cancer or lupus then they would want to prepare the public about it and would be able to garner empathy and sympathy by putting out a press release. If it's untreated AIDS then I could see why they would be cautious but then why would he have not been treated properly? Could be cancer and he has asked for it to be not talked about?
Either way I feel for him and I hope he'll be okay. That's probably it for him playing the role of Black panther, I can't see how he can go through the training required to play the character again unless they just use a lot more cgi in the next movie.

Neither of the the two women in the ER pics are his partner Taylor, they're both hospital staff - the one pushing his chair is an orderly/nurse, the other woman is staff, both are wearing hospital badges. I didn't see his partner in the pics maybe there is another shot.
He's clearly ill. What's odd to me is that he got papped out on in front of the ER public entrance. Most of the LA-area hospitals have private entrances/exits specifically for famous folk, I wonder why he wasn't using this. The local PD/FD even use special dispatch codes to radio ahead when they're transporting a famous person to a hospital or facility, to throw off the tabs/paps who listen to the scanners. I wonder if these pics were taken at one of the big LA facilities, or if he was at a smaller regional satellite clinic/hospital and got caught out - I suspect the latter.

If he's ill its most likely a metastisizing cancer like liver or pancreatic. Those are both death sentences, most of the time. They quickly spread even with treatment and the patient can be gone in months.
Patrick Swayze comes to mind when I see these pics, he had pancreatic I believe. Google photos of him from just before he died, he had a similar this, weak and wasted appearance.

A more apt comparison might be the Australian actor Andy Whitfield who played Spartacus in the TV series. I don't think they (TMZ, gossip rags, media) withhold information, even for Disney, unless it's something serious and health related and they've received ops that it would be in bad taste.
Even the blogs and gossip sites (here, LSA, etc.) don't have any leads about drugs, eating disorders, or anything like that. If he had been so seriously involved in either that he became this frail, we would have some sort of receipts or stories to back it up.

I couldn’t think of another black actor can replace him as of now. Chad has the specific look for the look. His handsome and sophisticated looking is perfect for the role.

What r272 said.
Many years ago, here at the DL, a poster who had worked for the publishers of The Enquirer and Star (right-wing assholes) said that we're all missing, because we can't see it, what's really the hot scoop- that which isn't published because of a deal. In other words, what's actually published was the "safer" stuff.
That why, when all that stuff about the Bezos Dick Pix was in the news, I knew it was all true that those publishers were attempting to blackmail Bezos.
[quote] I couldn’t think of another black actor can replace him as of now.
I can. Michael B. Jordan - Killmonger.
This is totally my fanfic, but bear with me -
When Killmonger died and went to the Ancestral Plane (remember, you can return from there- both Black Panthers did so) his ancestors disallow his presence, he returns to life, is immediately healed from his fatal wounds, redeems himself, goes from Villain to Super Hero and, walla! There's our new Black Panther.
I'm half joking, half serious.
Anyway, I too think something serious may be a foot here with Bozeman.
As for Harvey Levin, he's a close-to Trump Trumper. I refuse to click on his site. It's credibly reported he is always on the phone with Trump dishing to him all the gossip he knows, even the stuff Levin won't publish on his site because it's too hot and interferes with transactions.

Boseman has been recently been spotted without the cane walking his dog.
It may be that he lost weight for a role and went overboard, so he had to be hospitalized. He has a naturally slender build and is vegan (not vegetarian).

Lmao that people still think you can get so frail that you need a stick to hold your body up, just from going vegan. Most actors in L.A are vegan because of the health and beauty benefits (and the general food culture there) and none of them literally look like they are dying because of it.

Wrong R285, a vegan diet can adversely affect your health. Those celebrities are probably working closely with a dietician/ personal trainer or have someone cooking for then. They likely are not under the same amount of stress that Boseman is. There was a case of a vegan who became blind because he wasn't getting enough protein & nutrients.

r288 it's fucking Hollywood. They're not vegan-they're probably vegetarian at best but vegan for the cameras, so to speak. That's why someone who actually tries it can get messed up. I've also heard it as a cover for drug use, particularly the weight loss, because they attribute their whippet frames to lack of animal protein.

R290, that simply isn’t true. Eating the right portion of meat is healthy... What caused the huge increase of diabetes II in The US was the fat-free craze. It still exists btw. People think eating less fat is the key to health. NOPE.
It led to increased carb and sugar intake, which brings us to today. A healthy cm Insteon of carbs, fat, and protein is the healthiest approach.

r296, that's not true. The people who are diabetic are the least likely to eat anything "fat free"
They eat carbs, sugar, AND fat
by Anonymous | reply 299 | June 27, 2020 10:39 PM

R299, but the fat doesn’t really matter. It’s the carbs and sugar that put on weight and lead to diabetes. The keto diet is only fat, and while I don’t recommend it, as it’s impossible to maintain, it leads to fat loss and better blood test numbers. If people only did keto (again I don’t recommend), they’d actually be healthier.

To be fair, calorie-restriction diets do eventually lead to weight loss. It's just that carb-restricted diets work more efficiently and lead to faster and larger weight loss. And remember, all weight-loss strategies have to be correctly followed over time to work, which is why most people fail. Most people are looking for quick results and can't stick to something that is too restrictive or isn't showing results fast enough.

Hate to be on topic here but is there any info at all about whether he's still in the hospital or not? I'm finding NOTHING on gossip sites, but maybe I'm not looking in the right places?
He was listed as one of the black actors asking Hollywood studios to divest from the police a few days ago, but that's it. That means his PR people are still working and surely would have said something if this ER visit wasn't him. Pretending it wasn't even him would have been the easiest route, because you can barely see him in the wheelchair.

It was a Marvel movie. Everyone that was a Marvel fan made it all about them on and off of Twitter. Little white children were running around screaming, "WAKANDA FOREVER" after showings. If black people on the internet liking a movie with a predominantly black cast upsets you then you have bigger problems.
