Are they classy, tacky, or fun? Do you or would you own one? What is their origin? Have you ever seen one outside of early 1970s American living rooms?
We had one in the 70's when I was a kid. I could sit for hours watching it. I loved that the lady was naked.

My aunt had one, as a child I thought it was the height of glamour!

What is your own opinion, OP? I realise it's so TERRIBLE difficult to decide. And heaven forbid they are 2 out of the three.

Make wrong assumptions about the OP and then try to show how clever you are by attacking. Why are you so TERRIBLE stupid, R4?

I wish they still made them only without the cheap hotel feel.

R6 They still make sleek, square shaped models without any figures in them.

Italian households were prone the believe they were somehow "klassy."

Surely the oil that made the "rain" would gather dust over the months, eventually turning the raindrops into dust bunnies?

by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 26, 2020 12:46 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 26, 2020 1:27 PM |

D9. DING. DING. DING. We have a WINNER. Pick any prize from the TOP row.
Like flypaper, the smallest amount of dust, lint, fur, hair or schmutz will stick to the fishline and the granular pieces will work themselves down into the mechanism, causing eventual clogging.

^ I meant R9 is correct.

R15 Lumens. And they all look either cylindrical or square . Although they are not exactly 70s style rain lamps the idea is similar

I took a longer way home from school, in the winter when it got dark earlier, just to see one lit up in a window.

A bank in my hometown had a floor-to-ceiling one in the lobby, and I thought it was magical and sophisticated.

Growing up in South Philly in the 70s, they were a staple of interior “design”. Even as a 5 year old, I knew they were tacky.

I love them, and they're at once classy, tacky, and fun. I've been looking for a working one for a while. People recognize them as kitch now, so the kitch whores are all buying them up.

It crosses cultural barriers as well. Every Cuban relative of mine in Miami had one.
