Will DL Fave Miles finally come out now?
Good lord. This whole series should have been a 90 minute movie.

Thank goodness this is the final season, the cast has reached that inevitable point where it is laughable they are supposed to be highschoolers.

R11 That never stopped the other shows.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 22, 2020 11:23 PM |
I live on Mare Island in Vallejo CA where this was filmed, and while it was fun having them all here, it became almost as tiresome as the show. But the sale of everything from the sound stages was amazing.

They could have a spin off (Archie Bunker's place etc.)
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 23, 2020 12:21 AM |
R18 Netflix might as well start a new show with some of the popular actors from this show. I don't think they can milk the 13RW any further without making a mockery of it all.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 23, 2020 1:01 AM |
Bit late for that.

[quote] Will that gay boy from last season avenge the death of his rapist lover?
Yes. The same guy who beat the shit out of him. This show is majorly fucked up and its gay storylines are borderline homophobic.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 23, 2020 1:19 AM |
The actor who plays Tony always seems like he's going to catch Gay from having to kiss guys.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 23, 2020 1:21 AM |
R21 What do you expect? The real world is still more than borderline homophobic.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 23, 2020 1:23 AM |
R23 This show has a MASSIVE teenage fan base. It’s really reprehensible for them to do a whole storyline about a gay guy obsessed with avenging the death of a closeted guy who not only beat the shit out of him, but also violently raped another male student.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 23, 2020 1:26 AM |
R24 But that reflects the situation of being gay in a homophobic world. Gays end up hankering for the "straight-acting" jocks who abuse gays because of their own internalized hate. The whole 13RW theme is about how the fucked up state of society affects/kills teenagers not sweet highschool romance.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 23, 2020 1:34 AM |

R13 what did you buy?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 23, 2020 1:59 AM |
R24 don't forget the kinda borderline forced blowjob. Because when straight kids to it it's rape. But gay teens are just naturally kinky like that.
You just know they'll try to "redeem" Monty like they did Bryce.

R30 Typical. There is no shortage of gay actors on this show but of course DL only cares about fantasizing that one of the straight ones is gay.

R31 The more the merrier!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 23, 2020 2:32 AM |
R28 Monty was a lost cause in many ways because he himself has lost hope for himself. But at least Winston gave him some hot consensual gay sex before he went!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 23, 2020 2:57 AM |
They did have a hot gay sex scenes. Of course, the relationship would never get off the ground with Monty as damaged as he was.

r28 I'm not sure you can redeem someone after you've shown them raping someone with a mop for two entire minutes... What am I saying it's 13RW. We'll probably get the entire season with his ghost wandering around talking about the horrific abuse he got as a child.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 23, 2020 11:18 AM |
Some of you are upset that a show doesn't have some Disney movie two dimensional villains? Newsflash, even people who do horrible acts have their good qualities. People, and life in general, aren't black and white.
On a list of things to complain about with this dumb little show, that is not one.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | May 23, 2020 11:43 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 23, 2020 11:53 AM |
[quote] show doesn't have some Disney movie two dimensional villains
You think the villains in 13RW are nuanced? My biggest problem with with this show is it sets up people as absolutely evil and immoral then shoves some half assed rehabilitation in to "save" them at the end. Bryce spends 2 whole seasons as the spawn of Satan with an actual rape shack, then once he's good as dead they try to make him seem less bad. If they didn't want to make 2 dimensional villains they should probably have tried to give them an actual personality beyond "gee I sure do love rape" before deciding to kill them off.

Alex r42, Miles Heizers' character.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 23, 2020 11:56 AM |
The only one I can truly see having career longevity after this is Brandon Flynn - he’s the most natural on screen.

Hopefully he won't be swallowed into the Ryan Murphy universe.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 23, 2020 3:27 PM |
I've only seen Brandon Flynn's work in this show, but I agree he is easily the best actor out of the young cast.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 23, 2020 3:27 PM |
Dylan Minnette works a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 23, 2020 3:30 PM |
I think the kid who plays Tyler - Devin Druid - is the strongest in the cast, but he also has the most dramatically challenging storyline. He’s also the youngest of all the actors so it’s doubly impressive. He seems to be booking a lot of indie films so I hope he blows up.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 23, 2020 3:54 PM |
R49 Devin is too odd-looking to get lead roles, though. Dylan is more like the average white guy protagonist HW likes, which is why he's the lead in 13RW.

Of all the actors on the show, he works the least. Katherine Langford, Alisha Boe, Christian Navarro, and even Miles have booked movies during the show breaks.

A quarter past never. They passed on making more.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 23, 2020 5:29 PM |
Katherine Langton was the best of this cast. I stopped watching midway in season 3. Ani just didn't make sense to me and didn't feel organic to the story line. Season 3 moved so slow, I stopped before the payoff, which sounds pretty good. Was Bryce blackmailing Monty about the gay secret and then Monty killed him allegedly?
by Anonymous | reply 63 | May 23, 2020 5:46 PM |
Monty didn’t kill him. The actual murderers framed him because they knew he was a violent rapist.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 23, 2020 6:25 PM |
They framed him because he was dead 64. "Let the dead bury the dead" was the exact quote.

r50 Devin could play Elliott Smith in a very depressing biopic.
I agree with whoever said Miles cant act.

R68 Yes, Tommy was spotted filming a cameo in the final season.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 23, 2020 10:38 PM |
I imagine they will have everyone make some cameo appearance since it is the final season.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 23, 2020 10:42 PM |
Likely including Hannah's ghost.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | May 23, 2020 10:43 PM |
I actually think Miles is a pretty great actor, but he certainly has a very specific energy as a person that does carry into all of his work. He doesn’t have terrific range in what he can play, but what he does is generally done well (but much more grounded than most).
I also think he’s done a disservice by being put into all these straight roles. He’s one of those who pings from space, so every time his supposed straightness is referenced it’s very jarring (which makes him look bad in turn). They really need to just bite the bullet and let his character be lgbtq. He’d have been a much better choice for a gay storyline than Monty was.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | May 23, 2020 10:51 PM |
[Quote] he certainly has a very specific energy as a person that does carry into all of his work.
RuPaul said much the same thing on his podcast. He told Miles to look at Anthony Perkins' ouevre.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | May 23, 2020 10:56 PM |
I thought, despite the small part, he had a lot of screen presence in Love, Simon. Although we're supposed to wonder if his character is gay (and he was bi in the book), so it works.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 23, 2020 10:57 PM |
Miles was also good on Parenthood, he is performance was always very soulful and he’s a very natural crier (he cried a lot). I remember thinking he was a very dreamy teen.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | May 23, 2020 11:06 PM |
Russell Tovey loves to cry a lot as well. Maybe it's a gay boy thing.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | May 23, 2020 11:16 PM |
R76 I actually think Love, Simon is a great example, because he’s not in it much but does have a ton of presence (and a bunch of people wanted him as Blue for good reason). I think a lot of why he’s so effective in that part is that we’re led to believe he may be gay and Miles knew the character was bi (and played him like he was even if they cut anything that would have made that clear).
by Anonymous | reply 79 | May 23, 2020 11:18 PM |
R77 Yeah, his storyline with the deadbeat dad was one of the most effective parts of the Parenthood pilot, and he carried his character's heartbreak around the abortion storyline really well. He otherwise always felt like one of the more real characters on that show to me, just because he's got this anxious but low-key energy I feel like I see all the time in the real world but not a lot on tv
by Anonymous | reply 80 | May 23, 2020 11:23 PM |
Uh oh, I riled all the Miles fangurls.
Sorry, I've been watching him act for three seasons of this show and I don't think he is good at it. Having "presence" for a minute cameo is not a doing dramatic character arc like he has been called upon to do in this show.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | May 23, 2020 11:27 PM |
R67 for what it’s worth, he also killed Bryce because Bryce was a total dumbass douchebag who manipulated Alex into helping him up so he wouldn’t freeze to death, only to immediately start threatening both Jess and Zach.
Alex also has a TBI, a history of uncontrollable outbursts of rage because of that TBI, and was using steroids at the time (which I think make both those things worse). And Bryce knew all of that. It’s kind of hilarious really.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | May 23, 2020 11:32 PM |
His character on this show sucks, it’s not his fault the writing is absolute garbage. Even an Oscar caliber worthy actor couldn’t save it.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | May 23, 2020 11:32 PM |
R81 I agree. Miles is wooden as fuck. But maybe if he’s given a two-line part, or plays a dead body, he could be good at that.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | May 24, 2020 2:22 AM |
R31, it’s pretty obvious that Christian Navarro is not straight when you look at his IG and see who he follows. For example, he follows all the guys from Queer Eye, and in one of his stories, you could see that he had Antoni’s cook book.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | May 24, 2020 5:53 AM |
R85 I’m not sure if you’re being facetious but following the guys from the mainstream, straight-pandering show Queer Eye does not make you gay.

Wow, Brandon looks good in OP.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | May 24, 2020 10:52 AM |
I admit only watching the first few episodes but did anyone else think the girl who killed herself was an exhausting, self-indulgent bitch, revelling in making her death such a mysterious drama and getting a dig in at everyone she could?
by Anonymous | reply 88 | May 24, 2020 11:25 AM |
No that's pretty common. Granted just about everyone in that school is pretty unlikable in season 1. But it takes extra effort to make me feel no sympathy for a teenage girl who killed herself.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | May 24, 2020 11:50 AM |
R88 Exhausting, self-indulgent bitch... so she's just a DL'er in a teenage girl body.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | May 24, 2020 12:48 PM |
Miles said on the podcast that he introduced four of his castmates to Drag Race obsession. He name checked Christian. The other two weren't named, but I'd bet money that they were Brandon and Alisha.

If Miles' character finds his gayness this season it would be the best way to transition to playing only gay roles afterwards.

I’d love to see Brandon and Miles on Secret Celebrity Drag Race. They’d be so pretty as girls.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | May 24, 2020 4:10 PM |
That would require Miles to actually come out, which he hasn't had the balls to do, despite not exactly hiding either of his big relationships.

by Anonymous | reply 98 | May 24, 2020 4:13 PM |
The Miles hate on DL is so fucking stupid. It’s 2020, should he have to declare who he’s fucking in capital letters in an Instagram post in order for him to not be closeted in your eyes? He openly talks about loving gay bars and drag and he has a boyfriend who has talked openly about their relationship in the New York Times. If he didn’t want anyone to know he was gay he would have dumped Connor by now.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | May 24, 2020 4:16 PM |
R98 Yes, but the conspiracy theorists in the Heizer/Jessup threads also think she’s secretly trying to fuck him so it’s not just the stupid fan girls.

It's not Miles hate. I think he and Connor are adorable together. But there's some reason he can't bring himself to say the words, and that bugs me in 2020.

by Anonymous | reply 103 | May 24, 2020 4:24 PM |
r100 Nobody thinks Mae wants to fuck him. The problem they have is that she's the kind of female bff who wants to keep him as the gay little brother she can have slumber parties with forever. Miles is a 26 year old man now and he's in a relationship with another man. She needs to back off and let him grow up.

Is she, though? Or does her sex blind you to how she actually behaves? Mae promoted Locke & Key on her social media with a pic of herself and Connor. That's the actions of a possessive bff? There are other photos out there that show Mae and her boyfriend double dating with Miles and Connor.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | May 24, 2020 4:27 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 114 | May 24, 2020 4:48 PM |
R114 The OP implied that now that the show is over, Miles can “come out.” People are merely arguing that Miles is already out, which isn’t off topic.
But yes, this show is stupid and its upcoming storyline about a gay boy avenging the death of a closeted jock rapist just because they fucked once is not only homophobic but reprehensible.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | May 24, 2020 4:52 PM |
Back on topic. I quit maybe four episodes in S3. I think I'd gotten as far as Monty hooking up with Winston. If I decide that I want to try and power through this final season, is it so vital to finish when I already know about Alex killing Bryce and Monty being beaten to death?

It's only creepy because you want it to be. Miles spent about a month in Toronto before returning for the quarantine. But, of course, in your head, Mae was harassing him to come back to LA.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | May 24, 2020 4:56 PM |

After seeing her former friend be sexually assaulted, she was raped by the same guy. She then went to her guidance counselor and gets brushed off.
The suicide scene was shocking, to the point that they've edited parts of it out.
Yet I doubt they did anything to the mop handle scene, which remains one of the most horrifying things I've seen on any show.

She slit her wrists in a bathtub and her parents found her. It was some really good acting from Kate Walsh and Brian d'Arcy James.
And one of the jocks raped a male student with a mom handle. I still have the most visceral reaction even to the memory. It was graphic.

Miles is NOT a DL fave, but I would argue Connor is probably one of the few DL faves who is almost universally liked by DL.

This show’s first season was very moving and realistic in the ways that alienation and bullying could lead a teenage girl to want to kill herself. The rest of the seasons were a garbage fire.

[quote]But yes, this show is stupid and its upcoming storyline about a gay boy avenging the death of a closeted jock rapist just because they fucked once is not only homophobic but reprehensible
Is that what happened in season 3? Fuck now I have to watch it.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | May 24, 2020 11:46 PM |
Because it was a self-contained story meant for one season, and that they had to stretch out to milk more money r138.
You see it happen over and over because people just can't end a story and walk away.

I couldn’t even finish the first season because Miles attempting to play a womanizer was just ridiculous

As I understand it season 1 and half of season 2 depicted the entire book this show was based on all the rest is filler.

I didn’t think the relationship between Monty and the guy was romantic, because he looked like he was having rough sex with him.

[quote] "We've heard from many young people that 13 Reasons Why encouraged them to start conversations about difficult issues like depression and suicide and get help — often for the first time," Netflix said in a statement Tuesday. "As we prepare to launch season three later this summer, we've been mindful about the ongoing debate around the show. So on the advice of medical experts, including Dr. Christine Moutier, chief medical officer at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, we've decided with creator Brian Yorkey and the producers to edit the scene in which Hannah takes her own life from season one."
r130 The thing is it sounds like they edited the actual suicide scene to stop other teenagers from doing it. Which is ridiculous when the goriness would do the opposite. But they didn't change any of the rest of the season which pretty much promotes the message that if you kill yourself your entire schools lives will revolve around you, also leave some tapes describing how everyone failed you for that whole revenge from beyond the grave factor.

R132 I binged all 3 seasons over the weekend to refresh my memory before season 4 drops. They didn't edit anything out of that scene, including showing the bloody end of the mop handle.
Even though season 3 was the most recent, it was the one I remembered least about. It was so laughably bad. The police investigation was so half-assed (a text message & fingerprint on a car door = murderer) and the amount of people they questioned without a parent or attorney present.
Then there is the school. With the amount of shit that went down in such a short period of time, more people beyond a guidance counselor would have lost their jobs, starting with the principal and coach.
I haven't watched the trailer for S4 yet, but if what someone said above is true (Winston's revenge), it sounds painful already.
Also, can we talk about Alex's dad's shoe polish hair dye? Made all the worse by the scraggly gray sideburns sticking out.

Season 3 of this show will go down in history as one of the most terrible seasons of a TV show ever. It went so completely off the rails that it’s hard to believe it’s still the same show as the first two seasons.

I love this show even though it’s not my usual jam but the first ep of S4 is a mess. Everyone looks 35 and there’s no meat. Rethug Gary Sinise showing up doesn’t make it better. Yeah, so Miles finally comes out (surprise!)... not having Hannah be essential from the go since it is the last year was a huge misstep.

Since the cast looks like they're all WELL into their 20s, the least they could have done is progressed the timeline a couple years and landed them in college.
by Anonymous | reply 195 | June 5, 2020 1:41 PM |
I'm glad they gave up the ghost of Alex's heterosexuality.
Even just seeing him kiss Zach was one of the most open moments Miles has had on this show.

He was great with Sheri, who basically disappeared after only being around sporadically being in the second season.

by Anonymous | reply 201 | June 5, 2020 3:52 PM |
R200 Those scenes were really uncomfortable and triggering to watch (MARY! I know), especially when knowing the actor is gay. Such an unnecessarily awful way to kill a character who's probably had it the worst out of the lot. Bad and lazy writing.

R204 I've had it on in the background while working. I don't really enjoy any of the acting except for Tyler (Devin Druid) who's probably the most natural actor on the show, and he doesn't look 27 like the rest do. Anyway, the only interesting part was Alex realizing he's gay.
by Anonymous | reply 206 | June 5, 2020 4:29 PM |
R206, this season has been Miles' best performance by a longshot. I wish they'd gone down this road sooner with him.

by Anonymous | reply 210 | June 5, 2020 5:50 PM |
This show should have been burned to the ground after season 1. Textbook example of something that got stretched out past its shelf life, the writers are just spinning.
by Anonymous | reply 211 | June 5, 2020 5:51 PM |
This is a more watchable trainwreck than the third season was.
by Anonymous | reply 212 | June 5, 2020 6:44 PM |
How cute, even though their relationship seemed very rushed. Did they even speak once in season 3?
I like that Tyler is close friends with Miles and Connor in real life, Miles doesn't seem close to anyone else from the show nowadays.

Huh? The gay quarterback comes out to his father, who I think is played by Andrew McCarthy, and he say “Yeah” and that he had ideas because in Middle School Eli Manning was his favorite football player? Okay. I just say the group have these discussion and was wondering who the fuck he was.
I wonder if they decided to have Alex come out because they fucked up by having Monty be a gay rapist with a rage problem and then end up dead. Some actual gay content, since Christian Navarro would definitely get gay cooties if he had to touch another man.

by Anonymous | reply 248 | June 6, 2020 2:27 AM |
Clay mentioned three people that he loved who had died. I know two were Hannah and Justin, but who was the third? Jeff, the really kind football player who died before Hannah's suicide?
by Anonymous | reply 249 | June 6, 2020 2:32 AM |
R249 Yes Jeff, who he tutored and gave him relationship advice. He died running the broken stop sign Sherri had damaged with Hannah in the car. It took me a minute to remember too.
by Anonymous | reply 250 | June 6, 2020 2:36 AM |
It was a stupid decision to kill him off. All these tragic characters who end up dying... remind me to stay away from Liberty High.

Everyone chewed the scenery this season.
by Anonymous | reply 252 | June 6, 2020 3:00 AM |
I mean, it would have been nice to remind the viewers about him. I shouldn't have needed to rack my brain. Plus, the actor was hot. Just have a cutaway of him, Justin, and Hannah sitting together.
I can't believe they brought in Kathryn Langford for a day and then didn't give her lines.
Bringing back Ryan and Courtney was a nice touch, although I don't know why they felt the need to bring back Courtney's fathers.
I loved seeing Alex and Charlie gobsmacked when the asshole principal introduced them to his husband.
by Anonymous | reply 253 | June 6, 2020 3:02 AM |
Wasn’t there a fantasy sequence where he runs into Jeff on the field in an early episode? I wish they had done a better job of distinguishing when he was in the fugue state or whatever.
by Anonymous | reply 254 | June 6, 2020 3:08 AM |
I can't remember. If they'd cut down on all of Clay's hallucinations, they'd have made most episodes ten minutes shorter.
I also thought it was hot bullshit to give Winston and Monty the Clay and Hannah treatment at the prom.
I have to admit, I thought it was nice when Zach admitted that he and Alex had had a nice kiss, it just hadn't done anything for him.
by Anonymous | reply 255 | June 6, 2020 3:21 AM |
The weirdest scene to try and distinguish from reality vs. fantasy was Clay totaling Zach’s car. They finally mentioned it again later, but I wasn’t really sure it happened at all. And did Clay leave the scene of the crime? Clay is the poster child for white boy privilege second chances. And not so much second chances as 20 plus chances. There should have been at least a 72 pysch hold for pulling the gun on the officer, not a “I shit myself” escape with not so much as a wrist slap follow up.
by Anonymous | reply 256 | June 6, 2020 3:35 AM |
I am watching. This season is so messy. The focus on Clay has made it so boring, the writing is even worse somehow and the hallucinations are so boring. Wtf.

Brandon Flynn is such a charming and charismatic actor with a very charming presence. Even he couldn’t help the writing this season, and actually, he seemed like he didn’t even try.

Brandon's character dies a horrible death from AIDs in the last episode of Season 4. In 2020. Okay. Apparently he worked as a rentboy when he was homeless in Season 2.

R267 we find out in season 2 he had been doing heroine and getting fucked by men for drug money.
And people still die of AIDS.
by Anonymous | reply 268 | June 6, 2020 6:02 AM |
Brandon’s acting In episode 7 is fantastic. The scene where he is splashing water on his face after finding out his mom died to hide he’s crying and then later when he has a breakdown at the dinner table then strips the bed naked and just sits there crying... beautifully acted.
by Anonymous | reply 269 | June 6, 2020 6:06 AM |
R267 must not have watched the show. Justin goes to a school in an upper middle class to rich area By using someone else’s address to be in that district. He is from a poor home and his mom is a junkie who chooses her junkie BF over her son.
He becomes addicted to heroine himself and gets fucked by strange men he doesn’t know in exchange for drugs or drug money. He may have contacted AIDS through the sex or through sharing needles. Many druggies get HIV/AIDS.
Also, in this season when he is stripped down to his underwear you see he has leisure’s all over his body. That is episode 7. So that means he has had it for a while without knowing and it’s probably attacking his system big time.

R275 the first few episodes are slow and annoying because of Clay’s hallucinations but by episode 4 or 5 it gets good.
6 was GREAT and 7 breaks my heart because Justin’s story is so tragic.

The actor who plays Charlie was overplaying the gayness to hide the fact that the actor was obviously straight. Annoying.

This season was so gay but didn't have any gay sex scenes. I was hoping to see Miles and Winston's first time or Miles and Charlie's.

R281 Miles already got his ass out last season.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | June 6, 2020 2:38 PM |
Justin’s story is tragic.
Miles is usually terrible but really stepped his game up this season. I think him being able to play gay has allowed him to loosen up. He was so stiff trying to be a straight guy. He did great in the school shooting episode

SPOILERS AHEAD
I finally finished the season. It was the best yet imo, maybe except season 1. I'd rank the seasons (from best to worst): 1, 4, 3, 2.
I have some thoughts on the season. First off, I'm glad they made Alex gay. It was a long time coming. They hinted at it a lot last season. I would have been pissed if they didn't make him gay. I'm so sick of gaybaiting. That brings me to Alex and Zach. I love their friendship and I'm so glad the writers didn't give into fan hype and paired them up. Zach has always been straight. I'm glad he's so cool about Alex being gay. I'm sure he wasn't shocked, lol. It's so obvious the writers are straight though as they clearly paired two bottoms at first, with Alex and Winston. At least it's slightly more believable Charlie is a top, though only slightly (lol). Charlie kinda looks like a bottom too. Overall I think they did Alex's gay storyline really well. What pissed me off however is that once again the gay guy doesn't get to have sex. Alex had sex with a fucking hooker last year, yet this year the writers won't even let him have sex with his own boyfriend? They baited us when Charlie said he'd love to do more than just sleep (as in actually sleep) with Alex. I was annoyed noting came off it. 100 % they would have showed them have sex. Same shit happened in Sex Therapy. Granted, the gay guy (Anwar) was shown having sex with his boyfriend, yet it lasted for a second. A literal second. It was laughable. The lesbians got several minutes of rubbing their clits together (sorry for being graphic), I know it's gross. It's true though.
I was shocked they killed Justin off. I thought for sure they'd make him live because this show has had way too many deaths, I guess I was wrong. In a way I'm glad about it though, because it was realistic. It made sense. Justin has lived a shitty life. It had to ruin him one day. What I didn't like with his storyline though, is that it felt... idk... kinda sudden? But at the same time they spent a whole episode on him. We had to watch him die. I'd rather see more of the storylines of the others instead tbh, like yeah, more of Alex and Charlie, though I did think their coming out scenes were well done.
Then there's Clay. The show mishandled his storyline so much. I was so mad at how the show dealt with his mental health issues, like he was crazy. Dealing with mental health issues does not mean you're crazy. Second, all the scenes of Clay forgetting stuff and picturing people... it was so exaggerated. At first I thought he was schizophrenic. No way was he just dealing with anxiety and depression. What a load of bullshit. Second, why was he never medicated? I know he was in therapy, but that is only part of what he needs. I don't think the show did a great job with mental health awareness. I'm on anti-depressants. I'm not ashamed because it's nothing to be ashamed of. I was so annoyed Clay was never medicated when he clearly needed it.
by Anonymous | reply 284 | June 6, 2020 3:21 PM |
SPOILERS
Anyone else think the whole thing with Winston was so ridiculous? Like... he loved Alex after a few kissing sessions? He also said he loved Monty despite only knowing him for a few weeks. He seemed borderline psychopath. No wonder Alex dumped him. I didn't believe he would not move forward with what he knew. It wasn't believable. A guy like him would have spilled everything. Nah dude, keeping quiet was not realistic.

R284 you’re putting way too much thought into a few scenes of Alex being gay. It wasn’t a big deal nor was it great tv. It was nonsense. Alex was never gay. They had to make him gay because of who is playing him.
Miles would have never been able to pull of the scenes during the school shooting if he had to play it straight.
Who cares????
by Anonymous | reply 287 | June 6, 2020 3:29 PM |
R285 - the whole season was full of lazy, contrived writing.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | June 6, 2020 3:38 PM |
SPOILER
The coming out scenes were good, especially Charlie's. His dad was so loving and supportive, but at the same time not surprised. And I'm glad he came out as bi. Not enough bi representation on this show, let alone in the media in general. Tons of bi women, yet very few bi guys. Despite the fact that bi guys are real. Fucking hell, gen z is much more comfortable with being bi. More bi guys are coming out than ever before. I'm also glad it changed nothing with how Charlie was perceived by the football jocks. Also, it was cute how Alex's brother was like "you're dating the quarterback?" FUCK YEAH! lol. I would have liked a proper coming out scene from Alex too, though Alex saying Charlie was his boyfriend was better than nothing, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 289 | June 6, 2020 3:40 PM |
R288 I did like the gay storyline, although far from perfect it was well done. I loved the coming out scenes and the prom king and king thing. I'm sad that once again we didn't get a gay sex scene, but whatever, you can't have everything I guess. I'm just happy they finally made Alex gay. He was never believable as straight. Miles Heizer simply can't play straight, never could. The thing about Justin felt contrived. Too many deaths on this show already. Also, spending an episode watching him die? No thanks. Don't even get me start on the ridiculous and unbelievable outcome from Winston. He just walked away without implicating them? He's a fucking psychopath. Not realistic. And don't even get me started on Zach's sheriff father talking with the other sheriff (sorry, don't know his name) about family. The other sheriff clearly knew who killed Bryce, yet he didn't say anything?! WTF? Again, that made no sense.

For some reason someone here puts too much thought into the few gays scenes and ignores the rest of the show. Weird.
Diego was sexy as fuck.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | June 6, 2020 3:48 PM |
The show depicted several sex scenes, and in particular Alex having sex with women several times. Yet he wasn't allowed a sex scene with his boyfriend. It's hypocritical, and yes I'm pissed.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | June 6, 2020 3:50 PM |
Clay and Tyler are the best actors on this show. Tyler is the best imo, then Clay, then probably Justin. The rest are mediocre, at best.
by Anonymous | reply 293 | June 6, 2020 3:51 PM |
It wasn't realistic how they all got away with murder. In real life they all would have been charged and arrested a long time ago.
by Anonymous | reply 294 | June 6, 2020 3:52 PM |
[Quote]Yes. The same guy who beat the shit out of him. This show is majorly fucked up and its gay storylines are borderline homophobic.
All shows do this though, it's such a cliche at this point. Sex Therapy did the same thing, having the gay boy fall in love with the guy who bullied him and beat him.
by Anonymous | reply 295 | June 6, 2020 3:55 PM |
Another thing that didn't make sense was Tony's boxing career. The guy is barely 5 feet tall. It's ridiculous how the show always tried to have him be this tough street kid when he is so short and tiny. The actor was clearly miscast. Wonder if he was cast because the competition was slim, did nobody else want to play gay?
by Anonymous | reply 296 | June 6, 2020 3:58 PM |
I've gotten through half of the 4th shitshow. They jumped the shark in a dumpster fire with this season. Clays story is a mess, there's no way he wouldn't have been medicated. They managed to make Jessica even more obnoxious and self righteous.
Alex should have been played as ambiguous from the beginning. Glad they finally went there but he spent way too much time with his character trying to have sex with first Jessica then a hooker.
And WHAT THE FUCK is up with Tonys hair? Ash blond highlights?!?!
I'm not finished with the season yet, Tyler has an intriguing storyline this season, and I know Justins fate now, although he played the broken and barely held together, traumatized and self medicating role so well, it's not a great shock given the losses he's sustained.
I'm worried that they're setting things up to follow a group of these characters to college. Haven't seen this whole season so hopefully they really end things before the show turns into a thorough joke.

[Quote]Will the annoying all-knowing Ani be back?
I'm glad Ani didn't play a big part this season. I'm sure they know they fucked up having her be the all-knowing cunt last year. Thankfully they had Clay as the voice over this season. The fans hated her and they even drove the actress off social media.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | June 6, 2020 4:01 PM |
R45 and R47 Flynn isn't the best. The guy playing Tyler is. I'd even rate Dylan (Clay) above Flynn.
by Anonymous | reply 299 | June 6, 2020 4:04 PM |
Selena Gomez is the executive producer of this show. Of course they will do a spin-off. She needs to make herself more millions off this.
Clay would be medicated for sure. He’s losing it and everyone is ignoring him. Granted, our mental healthcare system sucks.
Alex isn’t a cool character and is suddenly gay. Who cares? R292 this is the shows final season with 3 less episodes as previous seasons. They were closing out the characters stories, not worries about random sex scenes. No one had a sex scene minus Clay losing his V card and that was 2 seconds. That’s it. Quit crying.

They gave Ani a good part this season. She was actually very good after she comes back in episode 7.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | June 6, 2020 4:06 PM |
R301 that means we need to focus on a random gay “love” story? Please. Alex being gay is only believable because they cast a gay boy in the role who acts, sounds and moves gay. Miles was miscast.
There was nothing groundbreaking or even charming about his forced storyline this season.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | June 6, 2020 4:08 PM |
Did anyone notice that Alex does not actually come out as gay or bi, he just tells his parents he has a boyfriend and that’s that?
I’m wondering if Miles has some say in that since he himself has never come out as gay. He might be one of those types that if you ask him would just say he doesn’t believe in labels.
by Anonymous | reply 304 | June 6, 2020 4:10 PM |
[Quote]I admit only watching the first few episodes but did anyone else think the girl who killed herself was an exhausting, self-indulgent bitch, revelling in making her death such a mysterious drama and getting a dig in at everyone she could?
Yup. I was one of them. This show was criticized for being "suicide porn" and "revenge porn". Hannah was all about revenge.

Him telling them he has a boyfriend is his way of coming out...
by Anonymous | reply 306 | June 6, 2020 4:13 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 308 | June 6, 2020 4:15 PM |
I’m glad Miles finally played gay so that all of his DL haters can shut the fuck up and stop saying he’s too ashamed of himself to accept a gay role.
I believe that Miles has wanted to play gay and do gay projects for a very long time, he promoted Love Simon very passionately and spoke at length about how excited he was to be cast, even though they made his character straight in that.
by Anonymous | reply 309 | June 6, 2020 4:17 PM |
He doesn’t choose how the character is written. I don’t understand how someone could be upset he is playing straight.

I liked that he didn’t need to come out. He’s dating a man, label that what you will. It’s 2020, must we always have a scene where a gay son makes an “announcement”? It’s such an outdated trope.

To the morons complaining Alex didn’t “come out”, his telling them this is my boyfriend was his coming out. Afterwards he stands in shock by their nonchalant reaction, and his mom asks if he is ok and he says “I thought this would be a bigger deal”, meaning that was his coming out.
Geez.
by Anonymous | reply 326 | June 6, 2020 5:38 PM |
Also, to the morons who are crying about no gay sex, Alex is new to dating a dude. He probably is scared of his first time with a man.

What does everyone think of the spin-off rumors? Dylan Minnette has said it’s been in discussion but that he doesn’t know if he’ll be involved (he probably wants out).
They set up Alex and Jessica going to the same college. Could they pull something off where Jess is a campus activist and Alex is her pansexual bestie exploring his sexuality and place in the “queer community”? Gen Z would eat it up.

I thought they did the AIDS thing fine.
If you remember the 80s, men were dropping in the streets from AIDS. Granted, we have come far from that but the thing is Justin never got tested so he didn’t know he had it. Hence, it killing him.

R348 No one is ignoring that people die of AIDS related complications. We’re rejecting the fact that in 2020 NO ONE would have known that a student is HIV positive, especially when medical records are required to attend public schools in California, and absolutely required if you’re a student athlete.
Even if he contracted HIV after the school year started, you do not die or AIDS within one year. That’s crazy, poorly written, and offensive.
by Anonymous | reply 351 | June 6, 2020 6:47 PM |
R245 Literally what I was thinking. They had chemistry, unlike Alex and Charlie. It's way too convenient that Alex found out about Charlie's intentions on the camp trip, right before sleeping in the same tent, of course. It was just a way for the writers/producers to avoid showing them have sex.
by Anonymous | reply 352 | June 6, 2020 6:49 PM |
R247 I agree. I think he was overacting, borderline making it a comedy. I don't get why people praise his acting so much. He was overacting several times this season. Tyler iss a much better actor imo.

At first I thought Clay was schizophrenic, which would make sense with all of the hallucinations, considering his age too. But no. Apparently he was just "tired". WTF?! Clay, who had a mental breakdown during the active shooter drill, admits that he has a disassociative disorder to his parents, and they react as if he just told them that he likes to masturbate in the shower??? How clueless can these people be? They should have immediately admitted him to the hospital for intensive treatment, not sent him off to school and the prom.
Winston knows Monty for five minutes, and in Season 4, he suddenly becomes a crusader for him and Bryce. WTF? Why? He didn't even know Bryce. His character made NO SENSE and was just added to introduce yet another attractive gay character to the show.
Ani is suddenly pining for Jessica? What? Since when? Did the writers realize that they had made more than half the males on the show gay, and forgot to include some lesbians?
Was the prom a fantasy sequence? Charlie and Alex get prom queen and king after being a couple for ten minutes, and the football team cheers them on, as if they haven't been a bunch of alpha male jock assholes for the last four seasons? And let's not forget that the sea literally parted for Justin when he shows up, so he can dance with Jessica. Sure. Why not?
The police literally beat up students in the streets and wouldn't let them back into their school, and we get NO REACTION from the parents? Where are the class action lawsuits? Where is the outrage? These are the worst parents in the history of television.
What a fucking mess.

I thought it was interesting that the lockdown episode, which was really the best episode of the bunch, was directed by Brenda Strong. I didn't know she did that.

Love Brenda Strong. She is still so pretty!
Some of the people on the Reddit sub for this show are throwing tantrums about the show having too many gays.
I’m reading one right now
“And suddenly everybody is gay”
“I’m pretty sure there are more gay characters on the show than straight ones at this point. They even had to make the dean gay.”
“Gayest school in the world. So gay that Alex Jones is going to do a Podcast about the water in that school turning students and staff gay.”

This season felt so all over the place. It almost seems like the first 4 episodes were written and filmed before they realized it'd be the final season, so they had to change things in order to wrap things up.

The first 4 episodes feel like a completely different show than 5-10. Insane how midway through the shows entire vibe changed.

Charlie was supposed to be a sophomore but is played by a 27 year old actor yet looks obviously older than Miles who is only a year younger but plays a senior.

What does that matter? R378 some freshman look older than the seniors.
EVERYONE AGES DIFFERENTLY.
I feel like the world is full of morons.

I always wondered across the seasons if the potential ramifications of Justin’s IV drug use and sex work would ever be addressed. Instead, he just went back to Jess and they and everyone else acted like nothing was could be wrong. I had a feeling was going to be sick in the lockdown episode when the spot showed up on his neck, and I knew for sure when he was trying to shoot up in his foot in that dirty alley.

[quote] It was a stupid decision to kill him off. All these tragic characters who end up dying... remind me to stay away from Liberty High.
As if Covid wasn’t bad enough for business.

The community is shown as completely accepting of same sex relationships with happy parents, football players not batting an eye when the quarterback kisses a boy in school, the Prom Kings, etc.
I realize things are better now than when I grew up and we lived in fear. But surely, this is a total fantasy?
Gaylings?

I wish they showed us how they managed to get the showers to run blood. Seems like a rather elaborate set up would be required involving a lot of plumbing.

The actor who plays Monty is turning 34 this year. So crazy.
Casting Dr Ellis Grey as Justin’s Doctor is perfect casting.
At prom, I was hoping that Clay would ask his mother for a dance and when he did I was so happy I started crying. MARY!
