Hackers claim they’ve got Trump’s ‘dirty laundry’ — and demand $42 million ransom to keep it private

The New York Post reports that hacker group REvil launched a successful attack against celebrity law firm Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks in which they swiped 756GB of data from the firm’s servers.

Hackers initially asked the law firm, which represents high-profile clients including Lady Gaga and Madonna, for $21 million, but they doubled their request on Thursday after claiming that they’d also obtained information on Trump.

Who would this law firm have represented that would have supplied the hackers with information? Honest question, I tried looking them up and couldn't find much beyond the names of a few singers they represent.

I sure hope Trump doesn't give in and pay it...

He will claim the Dems are now offering the public edited and untrue numbers, and that e has the real numbers, but isn’t going to show us, because it’s not are business, which is why he fought so hard to keep the information private.

Wikileaks only worked because they would just dump the stuff and let the chips fall. Hacking into the President’s records then trying to publicly blackmail him means that they aren’t a serious operation. It could be a false flag exercise to get Democrats on record demanding the release for the old “both sides” argument. This is a nothing burger.

The hackers don't speak English very well, and their claim that "you won't want him as president after you see this" is ridiculous -- no American would think that any entertainment scandal would take him down, not after all this time -- so I don't think we're looking at a Republican op here.

Who would pay without knowing what's in it. And if this is true, the law firm really should pay to get it back. It's not only Trump's files. They have an obligation to protect client confidentiality.

According to what I read, Trump never had any relationship with this law firm. The hackers added the Trump threat after the initial ransom request. It sounds like they got the Trump information from elsewhere. It could be anything-- there must be a lot of dirt about Trump out there to be discovered.

Whatever they say, the firm will pay. This kind of thing probably happens all the time. Who knows what's really going on.

I agree with the posters upthread who wrote that releasing Trump's tax forms is the only thing that might bring him down. I don't understand why he has been forced to release them. It's been almost four years and we still no nothing about his 'charitable contributions' -- that's the topic he's afraid to disclose. Hacker group REvil set to dump A-listers’ business deals on dark web

A source with knowledge of the hack told Page Six, “Grubman isn’t going to pay these cyber-terrorists a penny, so it is likely all his files will end up released by the hackers. The interesting details in there could include U2’s lucrative publishing deals with Universal, worth an estimated $300 million, as well as Springsteen’s deal with Netflix, estimated to be worth $20 million, as well as how much Diddy actually made in that Ciroc vodka deal.”

The source added, “Often, the most damaging details are in the personal emails of the stars and the executives — which is what happened with the 2014 Sony hack. But it is not known how many personal emails have been stolen from the Grubman hackers.” The hackers have not specifically threatened to reveal details on these stars nor these specific deals.

On Thursday REvil posted a host of documents relating to Lady Gaga on their dark web site, but most appeared to be standard industry contracts.

Hunny if that law firm did any legal work for Trump, they're probably the ones trying to shake him down. He never pays his bills. Ever. He always stiffs his lawyers. So this may be a great way to get him to pay up...with interest.
