Q-Anon : The Anti-Enlightenment Religion

To believe in QAnon is to believe, among other things, that a cabal of global elites are secretly harming children (think: 2016’s Pizzagate), that their behavior is propped up by members of the deep state, and that President Donald Trump is working to bring their crimes to an end. Adherents learned all this from Q, an anonymous figure who they believe has high-level military ties, who periodically leaves clues on the internet. He is their prophet.

QAnon is a pro-Trump conspiracy theory, yes, but it’s also more important than you might think. Adrienne LaFrance, our executive editor, spent more than a year trying to make sense of the movement and its followers. Her full, enthralling report is our latest magazine cover story.

Here are three ways to understand QAnon, as explained by Adrienne:

1. It’s a real-time participatory conspiracy theory.

The eventual destruction of the global cabal is imminent, Q prophesies, but can be accomplished only with the support of patriots who search for meaning in Q’s clues. … Surely there are people who know that Q is a fantasy but participate because there’s an element of QAnon that converges with a live-action role-playing game.

2. It’s a mass rejection of reason and Enlightenment values.

In the face of inconvenient facts, it has the ambiguity and adaptability to sustain a movement of this kind over time. For QAnon, every contradiction can be explained away; no form of argument can prevail against it.

3. It’s not going anywhere. In QAnon, we are witnessing the birth of a new religion.

Among the people of QAnon, faith remains absolute. True believers describe a feeling of rebirth, an irreversible arousal to existential knowledge. They are certain that a Great Awakening is coming. They’ll wait as long as they must for deliverance.

People, who are angry and frustrated, look for services that pander to them to find one that they believe suits them best. The trouble is that these services have a very big interest to keep their consumers in that angry and frustrated state to use them for their own gain.

What it comes down to is a bunch of paranoid suburban right wingers who all grew up in a house where someone was either an alcoholic or diddling a family member or both. They don't seem to realize that this isn't the norm among respectable people and project their own cultural pathologies onto "decadent liberals ". I really wish these damaged fucks would just get covid.

by Anonymousreply 205/14/2020

R2, None of them give a flying fuck about stopping sex trafficking, they just get turned on by lurid pedo tales.

by Anonymousreply 405/15/2020

Qanon freaks are the worst of the worst. They're the shit cherry on top of the shit sundae that is the right-wing conspiracy industry. It's a 100% political operation that doesn't' actually give a shit about anything except damaging Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 505/15/2020

What’s so bizarre to me about it is that QAnon appeals to conspiracy theorists who are wholesale ignoring and in complete denial of the actual conspiracy of which they’ve been made pawns and that is the collusion between the GOP and Putin to mindfuck them with bullshit like QAnon.

Nothing but catnip for tinfoil hat wearing schizophrenic crack addict Republicunts.

by Anonymousreply 805/17/2020

I’m not sure these people can be de-programmed. The false mythology they now believe in is so elaborate that they have no references for actual reality.

by Anonymousreply 905/17/2020

The same goes for those who self-identify as "Truthers"... They're almost exclusively Evangelical, Baptist, or Pentecostal, and Trump supporters. They usually believe Catholics, Jews, and especially the Jesuits rule the world, are evil, and comprise the "Illuminati". They frighten me on several levels.

by Anonymousreply 1005/17/2020

Is really a fascinating barrel of crazy. Lots of these nutjobs believe John Kennedy Jr. is Q.

by Anonymousreply 1105/17/2020

R11 Yes, or that he's alive and well, and a "prophet" who has gone into hiding.... along with wife Carolyn.... They have unbelievably keen powers of imagination. They like to post pics of people attending Trump rallies, who they believe to be them.

What's really scary is they believe certain bloodlines of many ancient families are inhuman. By dehumanising their "enemies" this way, they get a pass for racist ideology, as they believe they're fighting the good fight of good and evil. It is akin to those like David Icke who believe in a Reptilian-hybrid race of humans.

Google Ellen Degeneres, Oprah, Meghan Markle and the latest Chrissy Teigen. Now put Qanon after their name. Now think of the multiple negative persistent threads on DL. They are linked. It was picked up on LSA. Whenever a font named Tulip commented - They do the Q drops on LSA which is the daily info drops from Q it was noticed that a blind site had corresponding blinds. These corresponded with Twitter and mass negative threads. Tulip also sits on Russian Instagram hotties thread and has an in-depth knowledge of Russian socialites and Celebrities. You do the math. The general consensus amongst rightwing watchdog groups is that Qanon is a political tool being used to stir up the gullible. The conspiracy side is thrown in for drama.

R12, the extensive world history of this technique and how it relates to MAGAts, is related in the article @ the linked thread.

by Anonymousreply 1605/17/2020

Awesome. Now we have conspiracy theorists here. No wonder these threads get deleted so quickly.

by Anonymousreply 1705/17/2020

No one cares about Jared Leto except LSA morons. And you should go back there because this is a site for gay people, not fraus.

by Anonymousreply 1805/17/2020

“Just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get me” a favorite saying that always makes me smile from an old friend of mine. RIP ole friend

by Anonymousreply 1905/17/2020

I clicked on that LSA thread, and it's pretty terrifying. Hundreds of pages.

Some of the "fonts" were hoping for Obama to be jailed or even executed.

by Anonymousreply 2005/17/2020

Q is child porn for people too dumb to find child porn. They're probably all child molesters. It's not natural to "research" horrific sex crimes against children for 3-5 hours a day.

by Anonymousreply 2105/17/2020

you have to believe in the basic decency of Donald J. Trump. You have to believe that Donald J. Trump gives a shit about anyone but himself. You have to believe that Donald J. Trump's first thought about child abuse wouldn't be, how can I get in on that?

These are all big problems with the QAnon theory.

by Anonymousreply 2205/17/2020

They are loonies

by Anonymousreply 2305/17/2020

It's a typical right-wing tool to recruit crazies to do their bidding. And there are plenty of those around.

by Anonymousreply 2405/17/2020

Funny how they assume everyone accused of abuse is guilty....except Trump

by Anonymousreply 2505/17/2020

The one who actually had Epstein killed and raped s 13 year old.

by Anonymousreply 2605/17/2020

I'm convinced Q-anon is either some left winger COINTELPRO or just a fabrication of Steve Bannon to give some mythical creed to Trump.

by Anonymousreply 2705/17/2020

[quote] I'm convinced Q-anon is either some left winger COINTELPRO

Sure, the ones who insist that Hillary is a pedophile ordering kids on pizzas, but don't come up with anything about Trump are hardcore lefties. So very possible.

by Anonymousreply 2805/18/2020

BlackTourmaline: You thought that old friend of yours was the first to utter that saying?

Troubling times indeed.

by Anonymousreply 2905/18/2020

[quote]Funny how they assume everyone accused of abuse is guilty....except Trump

He is their lizard overlord. They must believe.

by Anonymousreply 3005/18/2020

There really is speculation that Q is a left-wing troll. Even Jack Posobiec, one of the biggest alt-right trolls himself, thinks it's a hoax.

by Anonymousreply 3105/18/2020

W. Q and other things, I've wondered if we've always had this many horrendously fucked up people among us and we just know about it thanks to the internet or if things have changed and more people have gone 'round the bend.

by Anonymousreply 3205/18/2020

I assume it's another religion for white people after they realized Jesus was a Jew.

by Anonymousreply 3305/18/2020

It's faerie tales for morons. They see a world around them that's sick and scary because, inside, they're sick and scary.

The poster, upthread, who noted that there's nothing normal about obsessively 'researching' and fantasizing about child rape, is spot on. These people are pedos or, at the least, were, themselves, raped as kids. The FBI could probably get rid of every pedophile in the country by rounding up all the QAnoners.

by Anonymousreply 3405/18/2020

Please. Projection is a right wing virtue. Good luck trying to sell the radical left being Q-Anon BS.

by Anonymousreply 3505/18/2020

All of these people need to be rounded up and sterilized if they believe Trump is their suvivor from anything.

by Anonymousreply 3605/18/2020

[quote] Sure, the ones who insist that Hillary is a pedophile ordering kids on pizzas, but don't come up with anything about Trump are hardcore lefties. So very possible.

Do you even know what COINTELPRO means? I don't think you do. Yeah, spreading absurd accusations about yourself to blame your opponents of doing it is literally what counter intelligence is for.

by Anonymousreply 3705/18/2020

QANON is the real deep state

by Anonymousreply 3805/18/2020

I think you mean derp state.

Oregon Republicans chose a QAnon believer to be their Senate candidate

It just always amazing that HRC is going to Gitmo or other stupid predictions that Q makes never come true but they don't question that for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 4105/20/2020

It's that fat fuck Jones and assorted other retards who have been banned from YouTube and Twitter for their shit.

Fat fuck started it and others jumped in. It's nothing more than the fat fuck's ranting, Russian propaganda, various bizarre conspiracy theories baked in a pie served by internet trolls to pathetic losers who believe everything they read on the interwebs. The loonier, the better.

by Anonymousreply 4205/20/2020

Does anyone know how to access the bulletins? I am curious what he said about Mika and Joe.

by Anonymousreply 4305/20/2020

The FBI should be using Q groups as honeypots to round up actual pedos.

As a registered Democrat I'm still waiting for my concentration camp assignment. We were all supposed to be rounded up shipped off last year according to Q.

by Anonymousreply 46Last Saturday at 4:12 AM

Where are the 1,200 indictments for the Democratic Deep State that Q said were imminent almost three years ago?

by Anonymousreply 47Last Saturday at 4:48 AM

Should we not be invading these online spaces, the way they do ours, but with actual information instead of laughably false propaganda? Why are they the only ones waging a social engineering war?

by Anonymousreply 48Last Saturday at 5:01 AM

The crazies at Above Top Secret just say you are part of the Deep State and bully you off the board.

They are hopeless and no need to waste the time.

by Anonymousreply 49Last Saturday at 5:43 AM

r49, that's pretty much what James Carville said about the crazies on Stuttering John this week, that {one} could take the time to try to convince flat-earthers that the world is round but they're too stupid to bother making the effort and are probably unteachable and unreachable.

by Anonymousreply 50Last Saturday at 5:52 AM

And now Qanon says that Hilary Duff is a child sex trafficker because of an old naked photo of her son from 2017.

These people are the sick pedos.

by Anonymousreply 51Last Saturday at 8:50 AM

I blame the 33 seasons of Law & Order SVU. These people have seen too much.

by Anonymousreply 52Last Saturday at 9:03 AM

R52 I'm not usually a moral scold but I think that show is bad for society. Also, it sucks and the plots make no sense .

by Anonymousreply 53Last Saturday at 9:07 AM

They're really into fantasizing about children being raped. They fixate on it, day in, day out. My hope is that we'll have a different administration in January who will be able to restaff our intelligence agencies with competent professionals who will use all those Q sites to round up actual pedophiles because that's who is posting there.

by Anonymousreply 54Last Saturday at 9:08 AM

[quote]Sure, the ones who insist that Hillary is a pedophile ordering kids on pizzas, but don't come up with anything about Trump are hardcore lefties. So very possible.

My brother-in-law first got into QAnon as a Bernie Sanders supporter in the 2016 primary. He started doing a deep dive into investigating Evil Hillary Clinton and that led him to QAnon.

It's not a political thing; it's a mental/psychological thing. Conspiracy theorists and Biblical literalists are the same crowd - they can't deal with chaos and instability in the world so they retreat into some fantasy worldview that Provides All The Answers. The fact that you can't argue with QAnon people is what they like about it.

by Anonymousreply 55Last Saturday at 9:08 AM

r55, I made a similar comparison to someone who has been blinded with this nightmare faerie tale propaganda. I told him his idea of the "Illuminati" sounded exactly like the Old Testament God. He ignored that, of course, despite his strong interest in theology.
