Here is the trailer for Ryan Murphy's Hollywood

RIP David Corenswet's career. We hardly knew ye.

by Anonymousreply 185May 3, 2020 5:20 AM

So are they using real names of stars (other than Rock Hudson)?

by Anonymousreply 1April 20, 2020 2:22 PM

"Is she in Gone With The Wind ? Shes goddamn Scarlett O'Hara, ...you fucking hayseed."

I love that line...

by Anonymousreply 2April 20, 2020 2:26 PM

[quote]RIP David Corenswet's career. We hardly knew ye.

Uh, Ryan Murphy is the only reason anyone knows who David Corenswet is. I am not following here.

by Anonymousreply 3April 20, 2020 2:32 PM

This would be a fun week-to-week show to follow and bitch about here.

But being it is Netflix, definitely going to finish the 7 episodes in one day.

by Anonymousreply 4April 20, 2020 2:37 PM

R2 Jim Parsons delivered it horribly, who is he supposed to be anyway Noel Coward?

by Anonymousreply 5April 20, 2020 3:44 PM

Why are you saying RIP David Corenswet’s career?

by Anonymousreply 6April 20, 2020 3:47 PM

The trailer suggests that nobody involved in this project knows much about the reality of Hollywood in the 1940s.

by Anonymousreply 7April 20, 2020 3:49 PM

The tagline that keeps being repeated in the trailer is what if you could rewrite the story r7.

What about it makes you think it is supposed to be retelling of Hollywood in the 1940s?

by Anonymousreply 8April 20, 2020 3:51 PM

Harpo! What is this again, a series based on Mississippi Burning?

by Anonymousreply 9April 20, 2020 3:52 PM

I feel like I've already seen the entire series.

by Anonymousreply 10April 20, 2020 3:53 PM

Parsons is playing Henry Wilson, whose bio would have probably made a better series than "Hollywood"

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 11April 20, 2020 3:53 PM

I thought we were done with Darren Criss. I don't like him but this looks really great.

by Anonymousreply 12April 20, 2020 4:00 PM

What’s the nudity situation?

by Anonymousreply 13April 20, 2020 4:02 PM

I'll just wait for the gay scenes to be put on youtube

by Anonymousreply 14April 20, 2020 4:02 PM

I like David Corenswet, but couldn't he have changed his name? Corinth, maybe? Cornish?

by Anonymousreply 15April 20, 2020 4:06 PM

R13 considering the trailer has some side nudity from Corenswet in the trailer I'd say it's a good chance theres a decent amount. I know hes playing a hetero but Criss better get naked at some point.

by Anonymousreply 16April 20, 2020 4:13 PM

I didn't know Queen Latiffah was in this

by Anonymousreply 17April 20, 2020 4:14 PM

R17 Neither did I! I'll probably check it out now because of her.

by Anonymousreply 18April 20, 2020 4:15 PM

Looks like every other terrible show of his. Every time he does one of these time capsule films or shows it's always a complete mess; the language, mannerisms, styling is always out of sync with the times and I don't know how he does it but he manages to make everything look cheap, tacky and low grade even though he's grossly overpaid. Is he going to put his bitch boy Criss in every single one of his productions now? Lol I might actually watch this shitfest solely for Jim Parsons the rest of the trash I don't care for.

by Anonymousreply 19April 20, 2020 4:38 PM

The shot of David Corenswet they are using to get the gays to watch.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 20April 20, 2020 4:38 PM

Ample nudity from Corenswet and a gay interracial couple?

Very intriguing indeed.

But Queen Latifa though...

by Anonymousreply 21April 20, 2020 4:40 PM

R19 nothing about that looked cheap but go off I guess. I know his shows can be disjointed but they are almost always a fun watch

by Anonymousreply 22April 20, 2020 4:40 PM

This looks terrible.

by Anonymousreply 23April 20, 2020 4:48 PM

More white people are evil porn. I’ll pass.

by Anonymousreply 24April 20, 2020 4:50 PM

R19: Unfortunately, I think he is going to do that. Bitch Boy only got the job because of Murphy.

This miniseries was Darren's idea in the first place r19.

by Anonymousreply 27April 20, 2020 5:06 PM

I feel so sorry for David in that seductress pose they put him in above.

by Anonymousreply 28April 20, 2020 5:09 PM

I think it looks great! Can’t wait to watch it.

by Anonymousreply 29April 20, 2020 5:09 PM

[quote]Ample nudity from Corenswet and a gay interracial couple?

You could end up with a show like last season of AHS or the Politician where it's very blurry and brief or non-existent.

I'm assuming nothing.

[quote]I know his shows can be disjointed but they are almost always a fun watch

Disjointed? Most certainly. Almost always a fun watch? That hasn't been the case in AGES!

And I think the reason is because there's absolutely no one who can reign him in & he can't focus.

by Anonymousreply 30April 20, 2020 5:12 PM

This looks like a hot mess. I typically like historical shows, but this looks really stupid.

by Anonymousreply 31April 20, 2020 5:19 PM

Ryan Murphy is a humiliation to all gay men. Stupid fucking queen who degrades everything he touches.

CORONA QUEEN here. I'm tired of putting up with shit.

by Anonymousreply 32April 20, 2020 5:20 PM

Can't be any worse than Feud.

by Anonymousreply 33April 20, 2020 5:21 PM

#1) "The Hollywood Dream" IS NOT "everyone's dream." Only Ryan Murphy and his clique of Drama geeks would believe that.

#2) Ryan Murphy's repertory clique of Drama geeks are not hot or cool. I don't want to have sex with them and I don't want to know what they're up to. The fresh meat New Boy isn't going to be worth all the Murphystanding geeks going through their basic paces and obviousisms.

#4) The Scotty Bowers story has little to do with women and it deserves its own show. But Murphy is such a voracious, gaping, black hole of content need that he has to suck up any and all stories to cram into the 10 shows he so greedily produces at the same time. So it's Bowers + racism + divas to satisfy Murphy's Drama geek girl demographic + Rock Hudson and Henry Wilson. Ryan Murphy is the Huffington Post of television -- A CONTENT AGGREGATOR. He sucks up the true stories of people who were famous without him in order to name-drop his way iinto relevance without having to have his subjects' talent or accomplishments.

This is why TV sucks. A lot of shows are "ripped from the headlines," but Ryan Murphy is the absolute worst. His whole soul is "ripped from other people's headlines."

Somebody needs to do a real show focused solely on Bowers and another just for Wilson / Hudson. And they need to cast actors who are hot that look approximately like the subjects instead of affirming Ryan Murphy's repertory company.

Is there any actor less cool than Darren Criss?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 34April 20, 2020 5:23 PM

Are we gonna see the gay characters fuck? Or is it gonna be a cop-out like in The Politician?

by Anonymousreply 35April 20, 2020 5:26 PM

The commentors on Deadline are not having it

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 36April 20, 2020 5:27 PM

[quote]This miniseries was Darren's idea in the first place

Don't know how true this is despite of what he/Murphy may have said.

But assuming, his 'idea' seems to be to repurpose MULHOLLAND DRIVE for the SJW era and get himself in a straight role in the process.

by Anonymousreply 37April 20, 2020 5:30 PM

OOT but for those who don’t have netflix , they offer 30 day free trial . i just availed it.

by Anonymousreply 38April 20, 2020 5:33 PM

R35 the actors said in an interview that they had an intimacy coordinator on set though I guess shows/films use those for any sort of intimacy. However I'd guess they are mainly used for scenes that somewhat "go there".

by Anonymousreply 39April 20, 2020 5:35 PM

Don't know about the show (I have disliked almost everything RM has created) but whoever did the music for that trailer nailed it.

by Anonymousreply 40April 20, 2020 5:55 PM

I will wait and see. I love old Hollywood and would have enjoyed a sort of Hollywood Babylon type story. This doesn’t seem that but hey I will still watch all of it.. Peoples hatred of Murphy on here is somewhat deranged.

by Anonymousreply 41April 20, 2020 6:01 PM

10/10 for the trailer.

I look forward to seeing the series with bated breath!!!

by Anonymousreply 42April 20, 2020 6:17 PM

Just keep cranking out the crap, Murphy. Shows about rich white damaged people. We so need more of them.

by Anonymousreply 43April 20, 2020 6:22 PM

[quote]And I think the reason is because there's absolutely no one who can reign him in & he can't focus.

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 44April 20, 2020 6:29 PM

R3: The only thing I saw him in was a film called Affairs of State. His acting was abysmal.

by Anonymousreply 45April 20, 2020 6:38 PM

Intimacy coordinators are to make sure the actors are not exploited nor feel exploited, cuz Hollywood is full of scumbag directors, who love to humiliate and exploit women!

It's like game shows. There is a legal representative who ensures the games are played properly and there's no shenanigans by the producers if the contestant wins big.

by Anonymousreply 46April 20, 2020 6:40 PM

It's a very new thing r46. It started on HBO's the Deuce in 2018, but given the MeToo era it has quickly become popular.

by Anonymousreply 47April 20, 2020 6:46 PM

R46 I know and usually actors feel like that more if a scene requires some nudity so the coordinator makes sure everything runs smoothly. I've heard of them being used for less explicit scenes but I'd wager you dont need one for just a kissing scene.

by Anonymousreply 48April 20, 2020 6:54 PM

The thing about Ryan Murphy is that he has so many characters and stories that plots get dropped in favor of advancing another. One moment two hate each other, next they talk like old friends. A partner storms out of the room during an argument. When we see them again it's as if nothing happened. O my gahd, Stephanie is in an abusive relationship! But since she's moved out and got a haircut, she's completely fine without a care in the world. Thankfully, what looked like the main antagonist of the season, was talked out of the protagonist's way, and took every obstacle along with them.

O and songs. Lots and lots of musical numbers.

by Anonymousreply 49April 20, 2020 7:08 PM

Oh God...this looks terrible. Quentin Tarrantino can re-write history and it's fine but Murphy just doesn't have the same skill set.

by Anonymousreply 50April 20, 2020 7:15 PM

[quote]stories that plots get dropped in favor of advancing another. One moment two hate each other, next they talk like old friends.

True for the shows where he's writing. His recent accolades came for series notably not written by him like ACS.

Who's writing this one?

by Anonymousreply 51April 20, 2020 7:15 PM

He needs to start getting some new cast. That can actually act. No more famous celebrities kids. Except for Jessica Lange, Dylan McDermott, and Kathy Bates.

by Anonymousreply 52April 20, 2020 7:24 PM

You group Dylan McDermott with Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates r52?!? The guy is not some great acting talent.

by Anonymousreply 53April 20, 2020 7:30 PM

I don't understand the central concept.

I seem to understand that the show is about "re-writing the history" of post-war Hollywood so racial minorities could make it big and gay people could be open about their sexualities--but it looks like from the trailer that they still are constantly combating racism and homophobia.

Could someone who has seen this explain it to us?

by Anonymousreply 54April 20, 2020 7:36 PM

Intimacy coordinators are new.

It's a "MeToo" thing.

by Anonymousreply 55April 20, 2020 7:44 PM

I was dreading the first of the month since I don't have my rent money, but now I cannot wait for you bitches to eviscerate this next Friday.

by Anonymousreply 56April 20, 2020 7:45 PM

[quote]The show aims to expose and examine power dynamics, and what the entertainment landscape might look like if they had been dismantled.

So they're copying Tarantino in their approach to their usual True Hollywood Story content aggregation and social justice preaching.

There's no originality with Ryan Murphy. He can't even invent an original style —‚ everything is appropriated. AMERICAN HORROR STORY: 1984 was a total copycat of the current '80s retrowave style and everything that happened in the show was ripped off directly from FRIDAY THE 13TH movies or the video game, when they weren't just namedropping Richard Ramirez and Kajagoogoo.

It's annoying, like the Aspie Thread Copycat on Datalounge. Rather SINGLE WHITE FEMALE, if you ask me.

by Anonymousreply 57April 20, 2020 7:55 PM

I was going to give this a shot, but even the trailer looks like a disjointed mess. I suspect it's going to be another shitfest like The Politician, which got hyped to death and was forgotten in a month.

by Anonymousreply 58April 20, 2020 7:56 PM

This looks like terrible Ryan Murphy wish fulfillment fantasy.

by Anonymousreply 59April 20, 2020 7:57 PM

Ryan Murphy needs to get rid of the stable of actors who are only eye candy and get actors who can actually act.

by Anonymousreply 60April 20, 2020 7:57 PM

So what is going on with Ratched? It was filmed before "Hollywood" but Netflix is still sitting on it.

by Anonymousreply 61April 20, 2020 7:58 PM

At least we get to see ...

by Anonymousreply 62April 20, 2020 8:41 PM

Fail, r62.

by Anonymousreply 63April 20, 2020 8:48 PM

I doubt Ryan Murphy will ever show a proper gay sex scene in any of his shows and if he does they certainly won't be on par with the straight sex scenes. The only gay sex scene (if you can even call it that) I remember is from American Horror Story Hotel where Max Greenfield's character gets anally raped by a dildo-wielding demon. I really didn't see the point of it. Was it supposed to be funny or something? Is that the only way he can get people to watch his tatty shows by making gays the butt of the joke?

by Anonymousreply 64April 20, 2020 8:57 PM

Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer had a love scene in The Normal Heart.

by Anonymousreply 65April 20, 2020 8:59 PM

I think at the very least we'll see Darren Criss and David Corenswet's asses

by Anonymousreply 66April 20, 2020 9:02 PM

Darren Criss already showed off his butt (twice!) in Versace. I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps his clothes on this time.

I expect nudity from Corenswet and Jake Picking who plays Rock Hudson.

by Anonymousreply 67April 20, 2020 9:21 PM

R67 theres no limit on butt display, right?

by Anonymousreply 68April 20, 2020 9:34 PM

It could be good. Excited to see LuPone get a seemingly decent role. I was upset at her shitty role in AHS: Coven where she showed up a few time and drank bleach to kill herself off. It was so stupid.

Murphy can be really good when he's focused (the first half of season 1 of Glee, the first two seasons of Nip/Tuck, the Murder House and Asylum seasons of AHS), but he has more misses than hits because he spreads himself thin and leaves projects to work on others. He seems to have a problem finishing things.

It seems like he'll take an actor out to lunch, tell them about their character and maybe a few storylines they'll have this season and they sign on based on that alone and by episode 5 or 6 they wonder what the fuck they got themselves into. There were rumors of the Nip/Tuck cast hating him by the end of the series, because he didn't even have a major hand in the show anymore and was too busy with other projects.

by Anonymousreply 69April 20, 2020 9:39 PM

Is that spoiled brat Billie Lourds in it?

by Anonymousreply 70April 20, 2020 9:58 PM

[quote]No more famous celebrities kids. Except for Jessica Lange, Dylan McDermott, and Kathy Bates.

Whose famous children are they?

by Anonymousreply 71April 20, 2020 10:15 PM

The Murphy trolls are such bores.

by Anonymousreply 72April 20, 2020 10:48 PM

Is Queen Latifah playing Hattie McDaniel? Hmmm.

by Anonymousreply 73April 20, 2020 10:54 PM

[quote]the actors said in an interview that they had an intimacy coordinator on set though I guess shows/films use those for any sort of intimacy.

How do I get a job like this? I would be great at this job.

by Anonymousreply 74April 20, 2020 11:01 PM

R74 the one Ryan Murphy uses started out as a choreographer and transitioned to do this. I guess it makes sense because sex scenes are very planned and choreographed.

by Anonymousreply 75April 20, 2020 11:04 PM

Oh, please don't let Patti LuPone show her tits again.

by Anonymousreply 76April 20, 2020 11:08 PM

They really need to come up with another name for “limited series” it makes it sound deficient in some way. Why was miniseries thrown out anyways?

by Anonymousreply 77April 20, 2020 11:50 PM

I'm not going to like this, I can tell. But, this was a very good trailer.

by Anonymousreply 78April 20, 2020 11:55 PM

It’s basically a vehicle for more of Ryan Murphy’s #RaceBait crap. The last thing America needs following Covid19.

by Anonymousreply 79April 21, 2020 12:15 AM

( R71) Meryl streep's daughter Mamie was in freak show, Billy Lourd was in Apocalypse and the last season. Chaz Bono was in Roanoke. Do you even watch the show?

by Anonymousreply 80April 21, 2020 12:49 AM

(R72) I didn't realize he had trolls. I thought he was completely loved by DL.

by Anonymousreply 81April 21, 2020 12:51 AM

Then you're either a newbie, r81, or you've been paying zero attention.

He is both loved and hated on DL.

by Anonymousreply 82April 21, 2020 1:13 AM

I liked Feud for the costumes, locations, cars, and production design ... and it was entertaining storytelling. I think this looks just as good, and I am tempted to get Netflix just so I can watch it.

by Anonymousreply 83April 21, 2020 1:23 AM

I'm thinking not as good as Feud or American Crime Story, but better than The Politician? Hopefully, at the level of Pose.

by Anonymousreply 84April 21, 2020 1:28 AM

I think Ryan Murphy is one of the first television producers who has figured out how to package content that appeals to gay men, women, and people of color, make money for the studios and networks, and win awards for himself and his associates. You may or may not care for what he produces, but he is transforming Hollywood for a new generation. Quite an achievement, really.

by Anonymousreply 85April 21, 2020 1:46 AM

Hi Ryan (r85), we were wondering when you would turn up!

by Anonymousreply 86April 21, 2020 1:52 AM

I auditioned for this. The scene was great and I thought I did well.

by Anonymousreply 87April 21, 2020 1:56 AM

I hope it’s good but everyone in it is a B to D list “star.”

by Anonymousreply 88April 21, 2020 2:09 AM

Honey, getting a couple under five roles doesn't make you "C list" r87.

by Anonymousreply 89April 21, 2020 2:30 AM

[quote]I hope it’s good but everyone in it is a B to D list “star.”

It's tv. What did you expect? Catherine Zeta-Jones to show up?

by Anonymousreply 90April 21, 2020 2:36 AM

Let's see your filmography, R89.

by Anonymousreply 91April 21, 2020 2:37 AM

I don’t know. If your biggest star is Queen Latifah .. hoping for the best.

by Anonymousreply 92April 21, 2020 2:59 AM

Jim Parsons is A list on tv.

by Anonymousreply 93April 21, 2020 3:01 AM

Ryan Murphy used an intimacy coordinator for The Normal Heart, the person was just labeled as a choreographer. It was my impression at the time that Murphy used the choreographer because he wanted insurance against execs claiming he shot (gay sex) scenes pruriently. Which is both sad and funny given how sloppy the movies have traditionally been about filming sex scenes. Murphy commented during promotion that he was surprised how much easier the scenes were to shoot with the choreographer and how he intended to always use one going forward.

I'm pretty sure STARZ used sex scene choreographers for Spartacus and that based on that experience it became standard practice for the network before #MeToo was a thing. From a labor rights perspective, it's stunning that these sorts of things weren't formalized as basic safety precautions decades before the hashtag.

by Anonymousreply 94April 21, 2020 3:02 AM

Sure. Whatever.

by Anonymousreply 95April 21, 2020 3:02 AM

[quote]Ryan Murphy used an intimacy coordinator for The Normal Heart

That sex scene in the woods was the best thing about that movie.

by Anonymousreply 96April 21, 2020 3:06 AM

r89- I've been a popular series regular on a popular network TV show. Considering the show plays heavily in reruns, I think I'm still at about C-list. Maybe D-List, but most D-List actors haven't accomplished what I have.

by Anonymousreply 97April 21, 2020 3:33 AM

r97 is Gunther from Friends.

by Anonymousreply 98April 21, 2020 3:41 AM

I think R87 just wanted to share that he auditioned for this and thought he did a really good job and was sad he didn't get it. I don't get the impression that he was trying to accurately rate his importance in the entertainment hierarchy by calling himself "C-list."

Maybe he isn't and R89 is. But, I think we all know what the "C" stands for if that were the case.

by Anonymousreply 99April 21, 2020 3:45 AM

C-list actor has to answer to no one on DL. He's demonstrated in the past who he is and people who have been on DL for awhile know that he is who he says he is. So leave him alone.

by Anonymousreply 100April 21, 2020 4:16 AM

I remember the good old days when we just called them Hollywood actors. We didn't grade them like in f****** high school. A-, B+, D-.

by Anonymousreply 101April 21, 2020 4:57 AM

[quote] Meryl streep's daughter Mamie was in freak show,

And she was also in a television show called "American Horror Story: Freak Show" to boot!

by Anonymousreply 104April 21, 2020 7:38 AM

To be honest, some of Corenswet’s line deliveries in the trailer were so incredibly dry and forced.

by Anonymousreply 105April 21, 2020 10:21 AM

The idea is good. Patti is good. Gay couple is good. Ryan might not be the right person to write it.

by Anonymousreply 106April 21, 2020 10:38 AM

I think the story of early Hollywood is interesting enough without having to "reimagine it".

by Anonymousreply 107April 21, 2020 11:51 AM

David Corenswet has to be the worst name for an actor ever!

by Anonymousreply 108April 21, 2020 12:15 PM

R108 I keep thinking of this every time I read his name:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 109April 21, 2020 12:51 PM

Worst prettyboy name since Simon McCorkindale.

by Anonymousreply 110April 21, 2020 1:36 PM

Damn, Darren Criss playing a straight guy. I guess he's keeping his word after that fake, phony speech about not taking any more gay roles.

by Anonymousreply 111April 21, 2020 2:00 PM

I'm sure he had this and other roles already booked before he made the fake phony speech, not the other way round.

by Anonymousreply 112April 21, 2020 2:26 PM

David Corenswet has to be the worst name for an actor ever!

by Anonymousreply 113April 21, 2020 2:29 PM

I guess it's possible that Darren Criss could age himself into playing straight roles. But he's so pretty to look at that it's hard to believe him as a straight leading man.

by Anonymousreply 114April 21, 2020 2:41 PM

Gosh Patti looks old

by Anonymousreply 115April 21, 2020 3:15 PM

I just watched the documentary about Scotty Bowers and I agree that Murphy should have done the story based on his book "Full Service" and left this other shit out. That is all.

by Anonymousreply 116April 21, 2020 3:49 PM

I liked Feud, and loved The Assassination of .Gianni Versace, but I don't think this looks very good. As someone mentioned, it looks like is has absolutely nothing to do with the reality of Hollywood in the '40s.

I could be wrong, I hope I am.

by Anonymousreply 117April 21, 2020 3:55 PM

Oddly, the two second orgy in the woods had a more natural vibe to it than that weird robotic stiffness between Matt Bomer and Mark Ruffalo. I think it was too clinical and over-choreographed to the point where it looked unnatural. There was no intimacy at all, it was like let's do a close up of a leg here, an arm there, some blurry vision and then the predictable slow pan away. Matts single tear streaming down the face was the only thing that gave it any warmth.

Get educated, r85.

Ryan Murphy is just exploiting the Broadway-loving demographic that TV and film have always exploited. AMERICAN IDOL, THE GOLDEN GIRLS, GREASE LIVE!, DOWNTON ABBEY and P.B.S. have pandered to the exact, same crowd for decades.

YES the audience is mostly female and YES shows like TALES OF THE CITY had better gays than Ryan Murphy's hackneyed seconds.

I turned the Bowers doc. off about 2/3 in. It started to get repetitive and I was like yeah, got it.

The broader story of sex in Hollywood is more intersting. The closets, the casting couches; there was so much exploitation of young, beautiful, naive hopefuls.

by Anonymousreply 123April 21, 2020 5:42 PM

Wait, is this historical fiction? This trailer is confusing. I’d be interested in watching a show about the Scotty Bowers gas station or Hollywood history, but I’m not interested in fantastical alternate history bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 124April 21, 2020 5:58 PM

It's a rewrite of history with a Tarantino fantasy twist.

by Anonymousreply 125April 22, 2020 2:34 AM

R125 Who doesn’t get killed this time?

by Anonymousreply 126April 22, 2020 2:54 AM

I think the interracial gay couple. They even come out of the closet in 1946 or whatever.

by Anonymousreply 127April 22, 2020 3:23 AM

Oh God please no more Darren Criss

by Anonymousreply 128April 22, 2020 3:26 AM

(R119) he's already done the Black Dahlia. In American Horror story Murder House. I agree, it would be kind of cool for him to add it.

by Anonymousreply 129April 22, 2020 3:28 AM

What do we know about Jake Picking?

[quote]Matts single tear streaming down the face was the only thing that gave it any warmth.

That was the part that made me laugh since the entire damn thing was so "surgical" and over choreographed that I had no idea how his character was supposed to be into THAT.

While Murphy openly uses intimacy coordinators for his actors' sex scenes, that time he let them go a bit too far.

[quote]So what is going on with Ratched? It was filmed before "Hollywood" but Netflix is still sitting on it.

Netflix is staggering his work so they don't drop everything at the same time. They're also trying not to release anything of his when any of his other shows are starting on other networks.

"Ratched" will be released, last check, in "September." "The Boys in the Band" movie is in October (and that was filmed last summer!)

"The Prom" movie was supposed to come out in either November or December BUT COVID halted production.

[quote]Ryan Murphy needs to get rid of the stable of actors who are only eye candy and get actors who can actually act.

The problem with his stable of actors is that they're all getting older. These characters, like the ones in the Politician, are mostly younger people because that is Netflix's primary audience. Those shows naturally do very well on there. That is also what he is best at writing.

Jeremy Pope is 27.

Jake Picking is 29.

David Corenswet is 26.

Darren Criss is the "old" one at 33.

Compare that to the below photo of his usual players from the NYT a few years back. Evan Peters is the youngest at 33. Everyone else is over 40. (Finn Wittrock isn't here but he's 35! Gabourey Sidibe is also 36. Even Jamie Brewer is 35 now.) While he writes for his actors that are older, they don't dominate most of his projects.

(I'd say out of the actors in their 20s he worked with Taissa Farmiga is probably the best but she rarely works with him. Emma can be okay occasionally. Billie is funny if that's the actual role. None of them are that versatile or proven.)

Jake PIcking is the All-American dudebro famous for exposing his rippling abs and muscles in GOAT with Nick Jonas and DIRTY GRANDPA with Zac Efron.

Of course Ryan Murphy pounced on him.

Really RM should just go full throttle and do a limited series biopic on George Platt Lynes, it could be his dream project and he could hire all the classically handsome boys he wanted and play dress up (and down) with them.

Omg, I just exploited. I can't wait. I don't care if you call me a Mary. Ryan Murphy is the illest. He's been representin us with ferocious realness since Nip/Tuck. I like to be entertained, fuck the politics.

by Anonymousreply 135April 22, 2020 7:58 AM

r124, Don't watch then bitch. You low brow bitch. You taste is demeaning.

by Anonymousreply 136April 22, 2020 8:00 AM

The writers call episode 3 "night of 1000 dicks" according to a Hollywood Reporter article. I'm assuming cause the scenes of lots of dudes in them. No way this show will actually show dick, right?

by Anonymousreply 137April 22, 2020 1:41 PM

R137, Netflix shows dick.

by Anonymousreply 138April 22, 2020 1:43 PM

R138 I know but even shows with lots of sex scenes dont. Most actors dont want to show off the goods. Anyway I'm interested in what stories they could come up with if they do a season 2 in the 60s that wouldnt just be a retread of this.

by Anonymousreply 139April 22, 2020 1:48 PM

It's Netflix, not FX r137.

They can show dick if they want to.

by Anonymousreply 140April 22, 2020 1:57 PM

[Quote]Most actors dont want to show off the goods.

It's easy to hire extras for full frontal scenes if you want the dramatic effect of having penis on screen without having any of the cast get naked. See Euphoria.

by Anonymousreply 141April 22, 2020 2:05 PM

These days almost any male actor will show ass on screen. They’re much more hesitant about going full frontal.

by Anonymousreply 142April 22, 2020 4:13 PM

Darren Criss is not just the stah! He's also "Executive Producer." LOL.

by Anonymousreply 143April 22, 2020 7:03 PM

What, exactly, does an Executive Producer do?

by Anonymousreply 144April 22, 2020 7:07 PM

This miniseries was Darren's idea r143. Of course he is a producer.

Corenswet being a producer is the odd thing.

by Anonymousreply 145April 22, 2020 7:12 PM

Corenswet probably only agreed to do the love scenes with 71 year old Lupone if he got an EP credit.

by Anonymousreply 146April 22, 2020 8:34 PM

Or maybe he demanded it in exchange for going full frontal r146...

by Anonymousreply 147April 22, 2020 8:53 PM

R147, we can hope.

by Anonymousreply 148April 22, 2020 8:55 PM

R145, three of the actors have EP credit. Criss, Corenswet and Jeremy Pope.

That's two too many if only one of them came up with 'the idea'.

by Anonymousreply 149April 22, 2020 9:08 PM

R149: It’s a vanity title. The three actors probably worked out the deal on the Murphy casting couch.

by Anonymousreply 150April 22, 2020 9:31 PM

R150: It also gives them another chance to be nominated and win an Emmy.

by Anonymousreply 151April 22, 2020 9:32 PM

It also gives them more $$$.

And bragging rights which, judging by R145, Criss has already claimed in the media.

by Anonymousreply 152April 22, 2020 9:56 PM

R147 if there is full frontal in this itll probably just be random extras. Doubt any of the lead guys would do that.

by Anonymousreply 153April 22, 2020 10:53 PM

R152: Bitch boy probably wasn't involved with any of the producing aspects.

by Anonymousreply 154April 22, 2020 11:14 PM

[quote]The three actors probably worked out the deal on the Murphy casting couch.

In the age of #MeToo if Ryan were like that, I feel, we would have heard about it by now as we have with pretty much everyone else. Some jilted gay somewhere or a young plucky reporter would have been chomping at the bit to take the biggest gay producer down.

I wonder if that's part of the reason he has used intimacy coordinators for years, before most companies required shows to.

Of course this is always a classic story!

OK, weird Dylan McDermott trivia I did not know. His father married Eve Ensler as his third wife, and she legally adopted him when he was 15 and she was 23. His mother had been shot dead most likely by her mob boyfriend who made it look like a suicide when he was five. Dylan is not the name he was born with, but chose after Eve miscarried a child that would have had that name. In Eve’s play the Vagina Monologues, a story about Dylan’s daughter’s birth is one of the passages in the play.

by Anonymousreply 161April 24, 2020 10:08 PM

The reviews are coming in and they aren't great.

[Quote]While watchable due to its production values, this mismatch of incongruous ideas suffers from the clashing impulses of Murphy and Brennan’s American Horror Story shock value and their Glee era sentimental snake oil. However, both of those series worked for at least their first seasons before going off the rails. Hollywood makes it to about episode five.

[Quote]The limited series gets so caught up in depicting the Hollywood of Ryan Murphy’s dreams — to be fair, of any progressive, equality-minded, film fan’s dreams — that it forgets to dig any deeper than the surface. Problems discussed have been discussed before; issues raised have been prevalent for years, if not longer. By the end, “Hollywood” proves an entertaining diversion, but it carries less weight than the smog hovering over Los Angeles

Excuse me, did I miss the part where it says it's a documentary? It just fucking entertainment.

by Anonymousreply 164April 29, 2020 2:12 PM

Corenswet’s character moonlights as a gigolo so we’ll definitely see nudity from him. Maybe this will feature Darren Criss’ first sex scene with a woman.

by Anonymousreply 165April 29, 2020 2:18 PM

[Quote]a screenwriter by the name of Archie Coleman (Jeremy Pope), who’s willing to help with the men Jack refuses to service

So David Corenswet's character works as a male escort but doesn't sleep men?

That's bigger make believe than anything else in this series!!

by Anonymousreply 166April 29, 2020 2:23 PM

R165, didn’t Darren Criss have sex scenes with Kristen Wiig in that indie movie they made? I remember that it sparked rumors and blind items of an affair between them where she became obsessed with him. Dickmatized by Darren.

by Anonymousreply 167April 29, 2020 2:32 PM

R167, don't think there was an actual sex scene. More like waking up rumpled in bed sort of thing.

by Anonymousreply 168April 29, 2020 2:49 PM

Without having seen it I'm sure it has at least some of the trappings Murphy is known for. However these reviewers seem to be inherently against the premise outright. That's their right to think but the reviews that say this show is insulting what real people went through is nonsense to me. Maybe the show takes a too simplistic approach and is too rose tinted but at this time I'm excited about a show that portrays a world where bigotry is smacked down. Maybe this show isnt such a serious drama. Not every show needs to be overally dier. In other discussion I bet if Criss gets a sex scene itll be PG-13 at best with no nudity.

by Anonymousreply 169April 29, 2020 5:21 PM

R167 Darren started going down on her, the scene cut then they were in bed the next morning. No nudity.

by Anonymousreply 170April 29, 2020 5:23 PM

I bet the most nudity quotient will come from LuPone / Corenswet, with emphasis on La LuPone. At least that's the impression I got from one of the previous articles.

by Anonymousreply 171April 29, 2020 5:26 PM

R169: He was naked in American Crime Story so it wouldn’t be a surprise he did it again here.

by Anonymousreply 172April 29, 2020 8:19 PM

[quote]I bet the most nudity quotient will come from LuPone / Corenswet, with emphasis on La LuPone. At least that's the impression I got from one of the previous articles.

Will Netflix be sending out barf bags?

by Anonymousreply 173April 29, 2020 9:12 PM

Lupone showed her boobs in Spike Lee's "Summer Of Sam".

I think the criticism that Corenswet's character wouldn't sleep with men is not deserved. Some of yall are forgetting how much progressed has been made, and that in the 50's homosexuality was widely regarded by many as a mental illness. This would have been young people born in the 30s. Its not unimaginable that he would only serviced elder fraus exclusively. Though wild gay sex orgies and parties existed, homosexuality was still very much a taboo thing.
