LOL no Emmys, no Golden Globes!
Could the Emmys or Golden Globes be moved to another city or state?

You can do an awards show without a large number of people in the room.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 15, 2020 8:53 PM |
They can just announce the awards like the GG's did during the Writer's Strike.

What will Morgan Fairchild do with her time?!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 15, 2020 9:32 PM |
They could have multiple gatherings of just the nominees with a host at each gathering. Ellen could have a pizza party ("Anyone have change of a $100, lol") with the best supporting actresses.

Good, it's about time those self involved actors come back down to earth with their sense of entitlement. And that goes for the studios who push that shit on us too. Look I don't hate actors but for decades now they have been put on such a high pedestal and get paid tens of millions of dollars just for paying pretend while people like nursers and first respondents get no respect in this society until now. The same is true for sports figures who's biggest contribution to society is dribbling a ball or throwing it through a basket. it's just a game! They do nothing to actually enrich a society.

Dear God, what will Brendad Ickson do without all her glamorous red carpets?
(Pictured: Brendad in a superclassy Hollywood restaurant with Wink Martindale.)

No big loss. Boring and overblown circle jerks of increasingly irrelevant institutions and industries.

Just do it on the radio like in Mommie Dearest.

I. WILL. DIE. WITHOUT. TELEVISED. AWARDS. SHOWS.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 15, 2020 10:39 PM |
I guess the Oscars could always be held as a dinner for a few industry people but broadcast online for the fans to see.

r6 has never been pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 15, 2020 10:57 PM |
B, C, and D listers across both the entertainment industry and fashion industry are really going to lose out. Big award shows and premieres and fashion type events where people can keep up media appearances on the red carpet are gonna be so much smaller — only for the really top people in both industries.
Hangers on and other non top tier people who rely on those type of events (on both coasts) to network or stay in the limelight are going to be kind of fucked (they’re not all bad people, btw).

One year of no pontificating from the podium when they win? Heavens to Betsy!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 15, 2020 11:32 PM |
Literally no one gives a shit about awards shows anymore.

Au contraire, R16.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 15, 2020 11:35 PM |
If it's just the CITY that's banning them, they could move to other venues. The Emmys have been held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in the past. And there are other suitable auditoriums elsewhere out side of LA.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 15, 2020 11:48 PM |
I know people are cheering this because they feel they’re getting to stick it to Gwyneth or whatever celebrity they’re hating the most right now, but this will have massive effects that are a little more consequential than not seeing what Margot Robbie is wearing on the red carpet. No awards season means thousands of jobs lost, and it won’t really hurt Brad Pitt, but the cater waiters who staff every after party, the media crews who depend on these events down to even hotel workers who rely on the increased bookings during awards season will actually suffer.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 15, 2020 11:49 PM |
R19 all true. Won’t hurt the people at the top. Hard times just concentrate the riches and benefits at the top tier as budgets are cut (this goes for any industry).
Stylists and emerging designers will suffer a lot, too.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 15, 2020 11:53 PM |
It's ok.
The one that matters is the Oscars and they won't be held until March 2021. These lesser award shows can afford to stream the winners for one year.

Good.

I'm supposed to run the NYC Marathon in November. Is it safe to say it won't happen? I don't want to train for nothin'.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 15, 2020 11:57 PM |
Probably not R24. NY is the epicenter of Coronavirus , that state won't see a large event in a verryyyy long time.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 16, 2020 12:00 AM |
If that covid 19 thread on the entertainment industry wasn't enough to show how out of touch posters here really are look no further than this thread.
Awards are way bigger than just self congratulatory circle jerks for actors it's the only time other professionals you don't care about have the chance to be recognized for their work.
What a bunch of grumpy out of touch old queens.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 16, 2020 12:02 AM |
What a stupid comparison. Actors that get paid millions a tiny minority of all actors you see in films get that money because their movies generate millions it's simple capitalism and math.

R26 link pls?
I’m not one of those ppl btw

Not being "grumpy" about it, but awards shows and sporting events are so unimportant when tens of thousands of people around the world are dying. The world got along just fine without such diversions for millions of years, and will for millions more to come.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 16, 2020 1:07 AM |

Pity. Oliva Colman won't be able to get her Emmy for The Crown. I condole her.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 16, 2020 4:30 AM |
Even though I don't give a shit about Hollywood, and I actually did live and work there, I give even less of a shit for sports teams. At least with Hollywood, a good movie can change your perspective on things or even motivate you to feel compassionate about a specific subject. Sports is just pure BS bro attitude. It accomplishes nothing when the game is over except making douche bags richer so they can buy more pimped out cars and tacky McMansion cribs.
I'v noticed between the tow groups, sports figures the more greedy of the two. Actors tend to donate a lot more of their personal money. During 9/11 for example, I remember dozens of them donating 1 million or more. I think Lady Gaga just donated something like 30 million. Meanwhile the sports teams collectively maybe kicked in 1 million, and that is a billion dollar industry and some of those guys have a net worth of over 100 million dollars.

Fewer televised awards shows would be an improvement. Perhaps if they all disappear for a season, when they come back, the really crappy ones would disappear.

The Rams/Chargers were supposed to debut their new stadium this year.
The Chargers were already struggling in the LA market. Will this kill them?

LA better not cancel my Pet Shop Boys concert in October.

Even if it does happen, skip it.
This Coronavirus will pop back up this fall and the likelihood we’ll have a vaccine by then is nil.
