Debi Mazar.
Mazar called a friend of hers who is a doctor on Monday to ask if she could get the test for the deadly disease.
But she was denied the test because she didn’t meet the criteria — she hadn’t traveled out of the country or interacted with anyone who had tested positive, she wrote.
“I found this kind of a CRAZY criteria for a NY’er as I had taken the subway, gone to the theater, the grocery store, the pharmacy, hair salon,” Mazar wrote.
Doctors first tested her for the flu, but results came back negative. She was then tested for the coronavirus and doctors told her to self-quarantine while waiting for the results — which she received Saturday.
“I’m hoping I’ve been through the worst of it already,” Mazar wrote. “One day I feel crappy and the next I’m normal. Today my lungs are heavy, but I’m tough”

Alan Merrill of The Arrows, who wrote Joan Jett's hit, "I Love Rock n Roll" died in NYC of COVID-19.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | March 30, 2020 2:02 AM |
Thanks for letting us know r81. Alan Merrill, for those who don’t know, was son of jazz singer Helen Merrill. He was also a childhood, and lifelong, friend of Laura Nyro. Here’s a bit about “Wedding Bell Blues...
[quote] So, was there really a "Bill"? Alan Merrill would know - the son of Jazz singer Helen Merrill, he grew up with Laura, and they thought of each other as cousins, since her uncle married Alan's aunt. Alan, who became a Rock Star in England with his band The Arrows, explains.
Around 1958 or so my mom was dating a married man named Bill Carter, a b-film actor. He was married to Trink Wiman, heiress to the John Deere fortune. My mom and Bill co-owned a jazz club named The Night Owl (not the Greenwich Village rock venue) and were having a very passionate and public relationship. The club was quite possibly funded by Ms. Wiman's money. The affair was so serious in fact that Trink had private detectives invade our apartment at 1040 Park Avenue in '59, I was there and remember it. The ensuing newspaper scandal was the reason we left to reside in Europe for many years.
This was big family gossip of course, and Laura listened to it as a child and later wrote about it. My mother could never marry Bill, and didn't. Her timing was bad. Seeing a married man was a big deal in the '50s, but that the wife was such a wealthy heiress upped the ante. The affair ultimately cost Carter his marriage in 1960, with Wiman divorcing him, I guess Carter blamed my mom for his losing his grip on Wiman's fortune, and their relationship soured. He met and married actress Elaine Stewart, that is after breaking up with my mom in Europe sometime around in 1961 while I was in boarding school. My mother seethes at the mention of his name now and refuses to discuss him, although she did confirm the story of the affair (and Laura admitting to her that it was the inspiration for the song) when interviewed in Michele Kort's book about Laura's life - Soul Picnic.
My mom was not amused at Laura's incisive lyric, but in fact Laura was an investigative journalist as an artist and got the story spot-on in the song. A zinger from my mom's perspective, but a big winner in terms of sale for Laura!

R89, Charles apparently got another test fter 7 days and it was negative. You have to self-isolate for 14 days if suspected if you can't get a test. Although 7 days is not long enough imo, even if you get a negative test, so it's good that Charles is going to continue his self-isolation for the rest of the week (that BBC article is a little confused about what he's doing).

[quote]I guess the UK has a different Coronavirus than elsewhere. We are required to self-isolate for 14 days even if exposure is only suspected. Charles actually tested positive and only had to keep to himself for 7 days??
The official advice is that if you have symptoms/are ill you isolate yourself for 7 days after which you either have recovered or find yourself in hospital. If you are in contact with someone who is ill, you isolate yourself for a fortnight because of the incubation period before symptoms can make themselves felt. For those who have "mild symptoms", i.e. a nasty bout of flu, 7 days or so seems to be the average recovery time.
Of the two people I know who have it, one will have recovered by the end of the week and the other has taken longer but still was just short of being hospitalised. Common sense would tell you to stay isolated until fully recovered, so the official advice is a minimum period.

[quote]I guess the UK has a different Coronavirus than elsewhere. We are required to self-isolate for 14 days even if exposure is only suspected. Charles actually tested positive and only had to keep to himself for 7 days??
The UK advice is to self isolate for 7 days if you show symptoms. If after 7 days you don't have a fever/test negative you can stop self isolating. If you live with someone self isolating, you need to do the same for 14 days. If after 14 days you show no symptoms/test negative, you can stop self isolating.

Athletes and instrumentalists - large deep lung capacity might mean that their infections start in their lungs. That's the most dangerous place for coronavirus to start. Rather than nose or throat. These people are deep breathers and may have inhaled virons directly into their lungs. Apparently if the virus starts in nose or throat, the immune system is already working on it by the time it infects lungs, if it ever gets there.

John Taylor from Duran Duran! From Duran's FB page, which DL won't let me link:
DEAR FRIENDS OF MINE after giving some thought to this, I have decided to share with you that I tested positive with the Corona Virus almost three weeks ago.
Perhaps I am a particularly robust 59 year old - I like to think I am - or was blessed with getting only a mild case of Covid 19 - but after a week or so of what I would describe as a 'Turbo-charged Flu', I came out of it feeling okay- although I must admit I didn't mind the quarantine as it gave me the chance to really recover. I am speaking out in answer to the enormous amount of fear being generated by the pandemic, some of it entirely justified, and my heart goes out to everyone who has had to deal with real loss and pain. But I want to let you know that it isn't always a killer, and we can and will beat this thing.
Sending LOVE to all my Homies and Fans, in Italy particularly, the UK and the US and everywhere in the world I have been lucky enough to visit on my travels with DURAN DURAN.
Cannot wait to be back onstage again, sharing new music, love and joy. Stay safe, stay connected and get creative!
Love John

COVID first hit the jet-setters, because they were most in contact with people who had been to China or Italy or Korea when those countries were the first to be infected. It also really hit public figures who "press the flesh" a great deal, such as politicians (Boris Johnson) or royals (Prince Charles and Prince Albert).
Now after that first spate, it's hitting people who can't manage to get away rorm other people through all this. Most of the middle class and the wealthy are safe (if they obey the CDC's recommendations), but it's really hitting people now who work in nursing homes and poor people who have to work through the crisis and people in nursing homes and homeless shelters. It;'s also hitting some of the idiots who won't follow the CDC recommendations.

r246 - it is impossible he had it, or if he did, he is the baby Jesus born. He announced he tested positive on the 20th of March. He announced he was returning to work on the 30th of March. The guidelines for COVID say you can only remove yourself from quarantine if you are symptom-free without the use of Tylenol for 3 days or if you have two consecutive negatives tests 24 hours apart. He also announced he was reuniting with his son that weekend (27th-29th). So you tell me, how does someone test positive and recover from COVID in less than a week? Keep in mind he even stated in interviews he was separated from his kid for 12 days, not even the 14 days required for quarantine. Twelve days. So in that, we subtract 2 or 3 (depending on if he got tested or just waited the three days with no symptoms). That puts him with Coivd for 10 days or 9 days. There is just no way.
by Anonymous | reply 247 | April 26, 2020 1:49 PM |
R247 R246 Well, if that's the case it should be widely published by the media and out him for a very low act - pretending to have an illness that you don't/didn't have can be a crime if it is for profit. Guess it won't happen though with all the carnage unfolding at the moment with COVID-19 but he needs to be held to account if he is lying - its unacceptable.
