I had this disease in November, I know I did. I felt like I was going to die. First came aches & pains and I thought maybe I’d picked up Lyme disease when taking in my Halloween lighting. Then it was 3 days in bed when I couldn’t get out. Then it was a bad cough, chest pain & shortness of breath. I was really scared of the shortness of breath because I had to lie down after I walked up one flight of stairs. My husband too, though he wasn’t as bad as I was. I had an appt coming up with my blood specialist who listened to my chest & sent me to a pulmonologist. I saw the pulm & still had the cough though the shortness of breath wasn’t as bad by that time. He said my chest X-ray which I’d had 2 days previously was ok. He gave me a very expensive inhaler that cost Medicare $1700 for a 3 month supply, which along with my regular meds took half of the first part of my annual Medicare part D payments.

When I saw my dr in December I told her I’d been very sick & described my symptoms. I’d had the flu shot in early October. She said, “Well there’s more than one flu going around.” I reiterated that the shortness of breath was the scariest thing I’d ever had in any respiratory disease and I’d never had that with flu before. She was like, “Well you’re ok now.”

I’m in a high risk category. I have chronic high white blood count & have hypertension. My husband has asthma.

You know what’s strange? I can’t find dextromethorphan tablets anywhere. I can only find dextromethorphan & guaifenesin tablets. I can find dextromethorphan cough syrup without guaifenesin, but I can’t gag that stuff down. It would make sense to have tabs with just dextromethorphan , but big pharma doesn’t see the point. If you have a cough, as far as they’re concerned, you’re goddamned well going to get a tablet that produces mucus, like it or not.
