Pete overperforms. Sanders underperforms. Biden, Warren and Klubuchar drop and support Pete after Super Tuesday.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 22, 2020 6:23 PM |
Go Nevada save America! Make Warren and Pete go 1 & 2 !!!!
Go West !!!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 22, 2020 6:24 PM |
Feels like it'll never get underway! Supposedly they began signing in voters well over an hour ago, and should be formally getting underway in about half an hour?
Big wild card here is going to be the second place ranked-choice spots. I predict those are going to vary wildly from Precinct to Precinct so there is no significant pattern to be detected. Warren should get a bit of a boost from the debate, but with all the early votes cast that won't be significantly important, beyond some added viability here and there.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 22, 2020 6:25 PM |
CNN is over the top already... you'd think it had concluded. Nothing like Wolf Blitzer selling excitement.
[quote]Biden, Warren and Klubuchar drop and support Pete after Super Tuesday.
LOL... Liz 'everybody gets a free everything' Warren and Angry Klobuchar backing Pete?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 22, 2020 6:25 PM |
Tuesday’s debate is a bloodbath, gangbang on Sanders.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 22, 2020 6:26 PM |
R2, I would be very happy with that result.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 22, 2020 6:26 PM |

Go Pete !!!!

Swingline Sally ain't dropping out before super Tuesday when she stands the chance of nabbing a few Minnesota delegates.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 22, 2020 6:27 PM |
Sanders underperforms for the third time, Bros continue to spin it as an overwhelming victory.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 22, 2020 6:29 PM |
I guess you missed the “after Super Tuesday” part. You think Liz and Klobuchar will support Bloomberg?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 22, 2020 6:30 PM |
Oracle, do you intend to chant that every five or so posts? Because it's getting old already. And I agree with half your point.

[quote]I guess you missed the “after Super Tuesday” part. You think Liz and Klobuchar will support Bloomberg?
Again - slowly and with small words - Liz's platform is poles apart from Pete's. Amy hates Pete. They won't support Pete. It doesn't make sense.
If anything, they'll angle for a brokered convention and try to find a way to hang on.

CBS' Ed O'Keefe:
A “deficit of volunteers” at some caucus sites is complicating the early hours of Nevada’s Democratic Caucus, party leaders told presidential campaigns on Saturday.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 22, 2020 6:36 PM |
Does anybody think Biden will endorse Pete's candidacy if he drops out sooner rather than later?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 22, 2020 6:36 PM |
Warren wins decisively. Biden continues his downward trajectory. Klobuchar and Buttigieg become irrelevant. Bernie remains in place, pissing on everyone and everything.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 22, 2020 6:39 PM |
They’re dead in the water. They will have to choose someone or let Bernie run away with it. Pete is the only real Democrat performing. 15 delegates are not going to be of any use at a brokered convention.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 22, 2020 6:39 PM |
Check-in started at 10 am. Only day in Feb it rained. Predict a lot of no-shows.
Caucus heads were all asked to sign NDA's. Several volunteers have already quit. I predict problems during the process. Reports in advance that many of the elderly volunteers couldn't properly use smart phones' apps.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 22, 2020 6:40 PM |
Tom Perez will not be allowed within 500 yards of the Democratic convention if this turns into another shitshow.

Bernie is about to start his victory speech though.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 22, 2020 6:47 PM |
How long until they start reporting preliminary results? It's officially supposed to start at noon.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 22, 2020 6:48 PM |
OK, but in theory Tom Perez has nothing to do with it... when should results come in if everything goes according to plan?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 22, 2020 6:49 PM |
2:30 cst maybe.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 22, 2020 6:49 PM |
Perez will still have his, in theory position then tomorrow but someone else will be heading the DNC. Let Steyer do it. He’s clearly got too much time on his hands.

MSNBC has declared it "Too Early To Call" based on the the entrance polls.
What was the point?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 22, 2020 7:04 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 22, 2020 7:08 PM |

So I guess hat tip to MSNBC.

by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 22, 2020 7:11 PM |
Those entrance polls seem just too lopsided in Sanders favor for me to get my head around. However, they do indicate what I suspected in that Pete may be the only one who is viable of the rest of the pack.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 22, 2020 7:12 PM |
Bernie wins, but by a much smaller margin than expected. Basically a repeat of New Hampshire.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 22, 2020 7:13 PM |

CBS: Campaign aides tells CBS News there is a lack of volunteers to oversee Nevada caucus results in several locations. Ed OKeefe says it's an example of "disorganization and potential chaos" that some campaigns might stoke to "question the validity" of results.

by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 22, 2020 7:18 PM |
(Based on these entrance polls, which I am skeptical about) it does look like a good night for Sanders... Biden not doing badly in the second spot (strong with blacks) but everybody else is hard to call. If you believe them, and again not sure, a very bad showing for Warren and Angry. I'm going from memory from what I just heard and saw on CNN. That said, I think the only thing I feel really confident about is Sanders is doing well. But even that could change. Entrance polls seem sketchy to me.

No one is dropping out until the Convention. Everyone knows Sanders will not be given the nomination, so the winner will be chosen from among the others remaining.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 22, 2020 7:28 PM |
Sanders gets 26-29 percent. Biden gets 15-20 percent. Bloomberg gets 15-20 percent. Pete in fourth. Warren fifth. The Klob in sixth.
The media will say its a Sanders landslide, that he is unstoppable now, despite the fact that votes for moderates total 55-60 percent.

The Democratic Party in Nevada was requiring volunteers to sign NDA's, what a crappy thing to do to people who are volunteering to help you out for free. That might be why some precinct were hurting for volunteers.

I fear it will be Sanders and then Warren, based on what I am seeing on CNN. She's way behind, but she seems to have the most consistent second place finish. Sometimes Biden, sometimes Pete.
Steyer's playing spoiler in some scenarios.
The only clear thing is you better duck - Angry is doing very poorly.

Just a few tips for becoming the next President of the United States for our Democratic field of nightmares.
The first person that ties the Corona Virus to Trump will win.
Stay with me a moment.
Does anyone thing that if the President was a Democrat, Trump would not be attacking? There you go.
All any of these people have to do is the following. Start ads on TV with the following information and graphics that will terrify people. It will be the Daisy Girl ad for the new century. Start the ad telling people that for the last three years a person has been dismantling our protections against a pandemic. He and and his imbecile gang have been firing people, and destroying the very departments that were pout in place by Democrats and what we believe would of helped us in this very time of emergency, only to be destroyed by a person that does not believe in science.
Hang this albatross, and rightly so over the fucking neck of Trump. It is him that mad the bad decisions, it is his actions that will possibly fuck us all.
That is how you win an election. That is how you take this fucker down for good. They better run this shit, because you KNOW that the republic party is figuring a way to backtrack blame on Democrats.
The ad would devastate Trump. He would be un-electable after going after him for this. His poll numbers would collapse.
Do it Democrats. Do it and win.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | February 22, 2020 8:52 PM |
R87, when you can shoot a person in the middle of 5th Avenue and not lose a single vote and I believe Trump was correct about his cult followers not abandoning him, sticking Trump with a lie of starting a virus isn't going to lose him any votes either. Nice try though.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | February 22, 2020 8:55 PM |
I agree r87. It was also his call to go against the CDC and bring home infected people on a plane of healthy people to America.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | February 22, 2020 8:58 PM |
R88, Where did I say that we would accuse him of starting a virus? Are you dense? We would accuse him of facilitating it's spread by his incompetence. What is so hard to get? You think the republic party is not starting rumors about how Obama is actually to BLAME for it. Get a fucking clue please.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | February 22, 2020 8:59 PM |
R90, yeah someone is dense but it isn't me.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | February 22, 2020 9:02 PM |
R88, it seems to be true that Trump's crazy base will not leave him. But that does not mean he has not been losing votes. Polling shows he's losing a lot of them. All the centrists who hated Hillary and went to Trump because they had no place else to go are not showing any inclination of voting for him again. He's lots a lot of votes. A lot.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | February 22, 2020 9:10 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 94 | February 22, 2020 9:22 PM |
well all this is due to the press not focusing any negative stories on Sanders until now.
Go back to last summer and fall. All the negative stories were about Harris, Warren and then the fake Biden "scandal." All the press had to say that was negative about Sanders was "is he a socialist? too extreme?" and that's as far as they go. No one harped on his past. Not until this week has the negative coverage started.
I hope after Nevada the press immediately goes after him and no one else on the Democratic side
by Anonymous | reply 95 | February 22, 2020 9:27 PM |

Are any of you seeing a lot of enthusiasm for the democratic candidates in real life? I do see enthusiasm on social media, but I don't come across very many people in real life who seem all that invested in the primary. I feel like people were more enthusiastic about the midterms than this primary. It's weird.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | February 22, 2020 9:46 PM |

this is like in 2016 when too many repub candidates didn't drop out. Trump won a small majority of the primaries.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | February 22, 2020 9:53 PM |
R22, non-Bernie people should coalesce behind Pete. He is a refreshing candidate with actual momentum and enthusiasm, and can bridge a gap between older and younger voters.

Bitter Amy won’t allow that, r124. Pete has been seriously wounded by Joy Reid types and those who eat salad with combs.

It's been clear for a while that Bernie would probably build up a lead in delegates that the other candidates wouldn't be able to overcome. But DL'ers, as usual, have been in complete denial, insisting that Pete or Amy would somehow magically rise to the top of the pack.

Even though Pete is young, younger voters don't seem to like him. Black voters don't like him either. The only gap Pete seems able to bridge is the gap between old whites and middle-age whites.

the biggest story to me in 2020 will be how many more millennials will vote than in years past. Every millennial is now of voting age. We even have the first few years of generation z available to vote too
will more millennials come out in the general than compared to 2016? Millennials could completely cancel out the baby boomer Trump vote if they show up
by Anonymous | reply 136 | February 22, 2020 10:06 PM |
R105 There is no oppo than what's out. How are so many delusional about this? Sanders is gonna sweep. DL is a SMALL corner of the Internet for secluded mid-age or older wealthier gay men. You don't get what's going on out there and the enthusiasm for Sanders which is only beat by 2008 Obama's because there isn't a recession yet and there's still a flooded field. He OWNS the youth vote. These are the canvassers, the ones who drag their parents in, and the future political trenders.
Now there's a chance he'll win South Carolina and he's right on track to win at least California and Texas soon.
Pete (and his supporters) miscalculated the election horribly, but you would rarely hear that here. The demographics where he, and most of the other candidates than Sanders, are narrowing daily. White college educated women? Middle aged southern black men? No. Coalitions of the working class swarm over anything else, but you have several candidates trying to be Clinton or (PRESIDENT-toned) Obama again.

r1345, it didn't matter because he didn't gain or lose but as the lead in the poles you don't have to.
He needed to be attacked not Bloomberg who wasn't on the ballot or Amy who is at the bottom. Liz and Pete misdirected their fire.

by Anonymous | reply 139 | February 22, 2020 10:09 PM |
R133. I am a thirty something and I prefer Biden or Bernie. The younger candidate is attracting much older people and turning off his own generation.

Good post, r137. People here are terribly out of touch.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | February 22, 2020 10:09 PM |
Both Sanders and Warren gained from the debate. Warren arguably gained more, gaining more funding and survival support, but Sanders race was helped (slightly) more as he just solidifies his lead more and more.
R139 good luck but at this rate Pete's done before or after Super Tuesday barring a very surprisingly good result better than both Biden and Bloomberg. I won't write off his chances to stick at least through March (and as the field winnows, be able to stick through further), but you're going to see all non-Sanders camps urging each other to drop out now, and Pete's a soft target despite his early success, due to demographic weaknesses.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | February 22, 2020 10:12 PM |
The problem Is that Bernie supporters either aren’t prioritizing general election swing state electability, or have a delusional sense of how electable a 78-year old Vermont Senator is in purple states.

This is going to be yet another bubble election. Now another generation will learn that this country leans right. Bernie is going to get smacked by Trump, we will lose ground in Congress and the courts and it will be a moderate Democrat who comes in to clean up the mess. Same plot, different decade.

We're at a point where the only winning presidential candidates (both Democratic and Republican) are those who are outside the mainstream, anti-Washington, and have lots of character or personality (whether positive or negative). The GOP had the same issue in 2016 when Trump was able to knock off a huge list of mainstream, establishment Republicans.

The Russians have already admitted they are working on behalf of Sanders.
Asshole DNC chairman Perez needs to come up with a strategy to boot Sanders ASAP.

I voted early on Tuesday. There was a lady I was standing with that I met in line. I let her go ahead of me at the voting table I was standing behind her. I think she was trying to re-register and they wouldn't let her. She turned around and said to me they won't let me register and then she walked out the exit. I don't know if she was generally trying to be a Democrat or was a republican trying to f*** with the caucus.

R285 girl, it’s not complicated. These networks have been doing this for decades. They have internal numbers, they know where the vote is outstanding. They know that Bernie’s lead is so huge in the areas that are reported (which aren’t his best areas) and can conclude that he will win once the big money precincts come in. Bernie won.

[quote] the non-Bernie Democrats have not yet coalesced behind one Democrat.
They should have already started coalescing. The reason they haven't is because they realize all of the non-Bernie candidates are deeply flawed, which doesn't bode well for party unity and our chances in November.

Right now, it's about 1:15 Moscow time. This thing is going very well for Vladimir Putin. I promise you,' vouched Carville
The strategist added: 'He's probably staying up watching this right now. How you doing, Vlad?'
The strategist did state that he does not believe 'Sanders wants Putin to help'

Don't want Bernie? this is what needs to happen immediately:
2 out of the 3 moderates need to drop out right now. Either Biden and Buttigieg, to help Amy; or Buttigieg and Klobuchar to help Biden; or Klobuchar and Biden to help Buttigieg.
The 3 of them being in the race together right now is splitting the moderate vote too much and allowing Bernie to dominate.
Does this seem familiar? It should. It's the flip side of what happened with the Republicans and Trump in 2016.
And we all know how that turned out.
But it won't happen. All 3 of their ego's would never allow them to make the sacrifice.
by Anonymous | reply 389 | February 23, 2020 1:16 AM |
A game changer would be for Biden to realize it's not working out and to step down and throw his support to Buttigieg as the younger moderate.

R391, you’re right. It’s time for Steyer and Klobuchar to get out and likely time for Buttigieg, too; however, there is little reason to do so with an opportunity to have a defining moment on 2/25 and with only ten days to go until Super Tuesday. What I hope is that good sense and selflessness manifests after SC to give the stronger moderates more of a chance. Seriously, if Amy does poorly again in the debate and in South Carolina, she should go.

Pete needs to cool it some with the soaring oratory. He's not Obama yet, so the platitudes ring a bit canned and insincere since not everyone has been sold on him yet. I think he could stand to show a bit more genuine fire and a dash more folksiness. I say that as a non Pete supporter, but who would gladly support him if he were the nominee.

Amy's only polling at about 6-7% nationally. As of right now in Nevada, she's at about 3%. She could withdraw tomorrow and ask all of her supporters to support Pete, and it wouldn't make much of a difference at all.

I really do think misogyny plays a big role in American politics though. Warren is so much more intelligent, well spoken and organized than frenetic Sanders. She did amazingly well in the debate. Last year she caught all the flak for the medicare for all stance. Why didn't Sanders take a hit in the press or with voters? At least she proposed a plan on how to pay. He's just saying ideas out loud without specifics. I like her demeanor. I hope she can have another great night this coming week debate but she's in a tough spot. She's very progressive but more realistic than Sanders so she's not winning a majority of super progressives or moderates. If she were to pull out of the race I think that would only help Sanders. Why would a Warren voter opt for Biden or Buttigieg instead?
by Anonymous | reply 416 | February 23, 2020 1:27 AM |
If the field were thinner Warren would stand out more. Sanders to the left of her, Biden to the right. That would be her ideal spot to shine.

I've been NeverBernie since 2016. Absolutely. But the past two days I've been thinking. Russia is promoting and helping Bernie because they're so sure he'll lose to Trump. What if we vote for him in huge numbers. What if we allow our "strategy" of voting for every single Democrat up and down the ballot, in overwhelming numbers to be realized? Bernie becomes President. Now he will probably be a disaster. Maybe he won't, but the odds are he will. Congress, a Democratic majority in both houses will fight him on his more extreme positions, and he'll veto or reject anything not pure enough. He'll travel all over this country ranting and raving and holding rallies just like Trump. But the bottom line is, even if nothing gets done, it would be better than what would happen in a second term of Trump unleashed with no restraints. And we would have our national security agencies and our Justice Department back in order pretty much. And Ruth Bader GInsburg can retire and we could have someone decent on the bench. In fact we can have two judges. It's not much, but the idea of a 2nd Trump term scares the shit out of me. He is so obviously mentally ill it's criminal negligence for the Senate not to get rid of him.

It's fun to bitch about Bernie and how he's guaranteed to lose in November. But let's be honest. Bernie is winning largely because the other candidates are all so weak. If Biden had finished 1st or 2nd in both Iowa and NH, he would already have the nomination locked up. We have a shit show because none of the moderate candidates have risen to the challenge. None of them have sealed the deal. And I'll bet a lot of moderate voters are now saying to themselves, "I never thought I'd support Bernie, but maybe Bernie IS the best choice." Instead of blaming the Bernie Bros for everything, how about blaming the party for its failure to field an acceptable moderate alternative?

They want someone to wave a magic wand and make all the pain go away and make it seem like it's 1967 again and a blue collar family with a single worker can do well in America.
The Karens love Pete and they love Liz and lots of their "hubbies" do too
But there aren't enough Karens to carry the election
Remember it's 2020 and the educated upper middle class is maybe 15% to 20% of the population. And black people aren't necessarily going to side with the Chads and Karens because they don't have the same concerns.
The upper middle class tend sto dominate the news media and so we're all surprised when the lower 85% doesn't do what we have decided is in their best interests.

[quote]The moderates aren’t voting for Sanders, ever. We’re either staying home or voting Trump. So nominate this 80 year old Communist asshole at your own peril. You’ve been warned.
Instead of throwing around words like "Communist" that make you look like an idiot, I suggest you look at Sanders's voting record over the course of several decades in Congress. It's no different from that of any reasonably liberal Democrat.
Plus, in a general campaign, he would absolutely move toward the middle to reach out to moderate voters. He'd have no choice. Why don't you chill out, and wait and see?

That being said, I'm off to donate some more money to Pete. I want him to go as far as he can, even if he doesn't win the nom. I already mailed in my Super Tuesday ballot for him.

The reason Sanders is winning is because he's got a lane virtually to himself, but that's still only about 30% of the total pie. Warren supporters aren't necessarily going to default to Sanders if she drops out. The moderate wing of the party is spread among Biden, Buttigieg, Klobuchar. If all the other candidates in the race coalesced, Sanders doesn't fare quite as well.

[quote] If all the other candidates in the race coalesced, Sanders doesn't fare quite as well.
Unless they coalesce in the next few days, it's probably too late to catch Sanders. And the reason that voters haven't coalesced around one of the moderates is because they're not particularly impressed by any of them. Biden could have been the consensus moderate, but he failed to impress voters in Iowa or NH.
Who is the magic moderate that you expect everyone will coalesce around?

Ben Popken and Shamar Walters 40m ago / 10:16 PM EST Hotline jams responsible for some reporting delays
Multiple Nevada caucus precinct chairs told NBC News that they had to wait anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours to phone in their site results due to jammed hotlines Saturday.
“It just beeped the whole time,” said Ashlyne Rose, a 20-year-old nursing student and precinct chair.
Two chairs interviewed by NBC News said that the Nevada Democratic Party had texted them Saturday afternoon to provide the phone number they were supposed to use to report results. But when the time came, several chairs tried repeatedly to get through and were initially unable to do so.
Around 5 p.m. ET, or 2 p.m. local time, the party sent a second text message with three additional phone numbers to call. “Thanks so much for your hard work. If you haven’t reported yet, you can call any of the following numbers to do so,” the message read. “If you don’t reach us right away, we’ll give you a call back to take your results.”
Calling those numbers resulted in being placed on hold for up to 20 minutes for some chairs, but the chairs said they were eventually able to report their results.
During the Iowa caucuses on two weeks ago, results were delayed for hours as an app coding issue and overwhelmed phone lines bogged down reporting. There was no evidence of any issue on a similar magnitude in Nevada and caucus managers said they weren’t overly concerned.
"I wasn’t really worried, I just thought I would call in a bit after calls went through," Rose said.
Gary Reese, a 65-year-old government worker, arrived a precinct in Elko County as an observer and was quickly pressed into service as a precinct chair due to a shortage of volunteers.
"First time I called I got a disconnected tone, like the line is not in service," Reese said.
Eventually he was told to go home and keep trying from there. He never received the secondary list of phone numbers because he was a day-of volunteer and neither the site lead nor the Democratic Party had his information. Around 7:15 p.m. ET, or 4:15 p.m. local time, he was able to submit his results via the original phone number.
Not everyone had to wait, however. Another precinct chair told NBC News they were able to report in results without issue on the original phone number.
Molly Forgey, the Nevada Democratic Party spokesperson, told NBC News in an email that the party had prepared "all along for a high influx of results as caucuses wrap up, and we’re working diligently to accommodate and continue processing the high volume of incoming results from precinct chairs."

by Anonymous | reply 590 | February 23, 2020 4:33 AM |
Ignore all the media hype. Bernie is "winning" with less than 40% of the vote, and in many cases less than 30%, and some of that is crossover votes by Republicans who are trying to fuck with our primaries. So there's no way Bernie is a winner in November. Capish? We need to decide who we should get behind. I'm not sure Bloomberg is the one.I'd rather it be Elizabeth or Joe. But if it's Bloomberg, fine. Once we get past Super Tuesday, a lot will change. It'll be down to Bernie Mike and possibly Pete. I don't see Elizabeth, Biden or Amy surviving Super Tuesdxay.
