Vote Blue No Matter Who

I don't have a problem electing ANY of the candidates running if they were to win the primaries. Anyone who is going to sit out this election or vote for "Jill Stein" is making a huge mistake. I've been reading too much lately, mainly by the Bernie and Bloomberg supporters, who are going to not vote if Bernie wins or Bloomberg wins. Neither one of those guys are my first choice but I WILL vote for either if they happen to win the nomination.

Tulsi Gabbard is at the bottom of my list, but I would vote for her if she won the nomination. I don't think I can stand having Donald Trump as our President any longer.

by Anonymousreply 217March 7, 2020 11:06 AM

No way I vote for Bernie! 👴🏻

by Anonymousreply 1February 15, 2020 12:28 AM

It literally doesn’t matter who runs as democrats

by Anonymousreply 2February 15, 2020 12:30 AM

R2 At this point it doesn't because there are too many stubborn people who are not going to vote because they don't like the winning candidate. Same BS as 2016.

by Anonymousreply 3February 15, 2020 12:37 AM

Tell me again who will PAY for all these SOCIALIST FREE GIVE AWAYS. The billionaires? ARE YA SURE??

by Anonymousreply 4February 15, 2020 12:40 AM

No Bernie. No Tulsi. No Trump.

Say no to Vlad!

by Anonymousreply 5February 15, 2020 12:41 AM

But her emails...

by Anonymousreply 6February 15, 2020 12:41 AM

and Susan Sarandon will not vote for Pete Buttegieg.

DL is full of Susan Sarandons.

by Anonymousreply 7February 15, 2020 12:43 AM

I have a friend who knows a friend who has a friend that sae the emails.....LOL

by Anonymousreply 8February 15, 2020 12:45 AM

I will vote for any democratic nominee. Fuck Trump!

by Anonymousreply 9February 15, 2020 12:47 AM

Any Democrat, straight down the ticket to dogcatcher. None of them is perfect, and some are quite imperfect, but we can take care of that when the Republicans are routed. Time to clean house first.

by Anonymousreply 10February 15, 2020 12:51 AM

I have three favorites for president (Senators Sanders and Warren, Mayor Pete), I've donated twice to their campaigns. Nevertheless I plan to vote blue whoever the presidential nominee is, even Michael Bloomberg. Most people I know will vote blue, even though some prefer Senator Sanders, we're voting blue.

Additionally, I've donated to four blue candidates challenging incumbent Republican Senators this year (Maine, Arizona, Colorado and Kentucky). I don't know if they'll win, I hope they do. I did what I could by sending the Democratic challengers 20 bucks each.

by Anonymousreply 11February 15, 2020 12:59 AM

I'm voting a straight Democratic ticket, no matter who, no matter what.

by Anonymousreply 12February 15, 2020 1:03 AM

Agree with upthread about pouty Dems. They’re more hardwired to be other-unmindful and self-interested, and unfortunately will not vote for the team if their particular player isn’t given the nomination trophy.

by Anonymousreply 13February 15, 2020 1:07 AM

I agree but turnout is going to be total shit. Many blacks, latinos and people under the age of 34 - all of whom would vote Deomcrat - are going to sit this one out just like they did in 2016.

I've said this many times before: things would have to be A LOT worse right now to trigger the kind of turnout we need. But people just arent feeling it. Not in any existentially threatening kind of way. Ergo: hip nihilism. "They all suck! So why should I vote?"

This country is too stupid for a true democracy anyway.

by Anonymousreply 14February 15, 2020 1:13 AM

[quote] But people just arent feeling it.

How could you not feel it? Donald Trump is everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 15February 15, 2020 2:28 AM

[quote] Many blacks, latinos and people under the age of 34 - all of whom would vote Deomcrat - are going to sit this one out just like they did in 2016.

How do you know? Are you black or Latino?

by Anonymousreply 16February 15, 2020 2:29 AM

R16. OH SNAP

by Anonymousreply 17February 15, 2020 2:31 AM

No Bernie or Trump for me. I can tolerate anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 18February 15, 2020 2:37 AM

"How do you know? Are you black or Latino?"

Way to brand yourself a total retard if you think Sanders or Buttiegieg is going to galvanize an Obama coalition-size turnout. Which is what we would need to oust the shit gibbon.

Now go wipe that applesauce off your chin.

by Anonymousreply 24February 15, 2020 1:29 PM

It would be nice if one of the more centrists Dems would get it so we don't have 2010 all over again with Congress, but 🤷‍♂️

Just get Trump the fuck out of there.

by Anonymousreply 25February 15, 2020 1:36 PM

Blue all the way, I don't care who it is. The stakes are much too high to worry about a candidate passing a litmus test consisting of every single one of your personal positions on one subject or another.

And remember: If it's Bernie, Congress is there to ensure he doesn't go too far. Besides, this country could use a bit of socialism here and there to shake up the status quo.

R26 BernieBot

by Anonymousreply 27February 15, 2020 1:51 PM

R14, thank you for informing me that I am sitting the election out. I am Hispanic and I was donating to three Democratic campaigns and planned to vote blue. My brother and some colleagues were all planning to vote for whoever the Democratic presidential nominee is and vote for whichever Democrat is running against our GOP senator. But R14, thanks to you I now understand that young Hispanics have opted not to vote. Please advise how you came to that determination. Thanks

by Anonymousreply 28February 15, 2020 1:53 PM

So many Anti-Bernie posts. Guys, who do you want me to vote for? I sent Bernie 10 bucks , but I'd support whoever is the Democratic candidate for president. Please tell me who I should support, if you don't want me to vote for him.

by Anonymousreply 29February 15, 2020 1:54 PM

Blacks did not vote for Hilary no where near what they did for Obama, if they sit out again, we will have trump again.

by Anonymousreply 30February 15, 2020 1:57 PM

R28 reread what I wrote. And I’m shocked I have to explain this to you...but just because YOU are voting and some of your friends does not magically mean that the Latino vote will surge to Obama-era levels in 2020. You get that, right?

by Anonymousreply 31February 15, 2020 2:05 PM

This attitude is how we end up with such substandard candidates. Pete or bust!

by Anonymousreply 32February 15, 2020 2:09 PM

Good God, no way do I vote the party line. Use your brains and do some research into candidates before you vote. I say this to everyone, no matter what party they belong to. Think before you vote!

by Anonymousreply 33February 15, 2020 2:21 PM

R33 is a freeper. Begone, before someone drops a house on you, too!

by Anonymousreply 34February 15, 2020 2:27 PM

R31, I've already donated to Pete Buttigieg twice, 20 bucks each time.

by Anonymousreply 35February 15, 2020 2:29 PM

I'm not voting for Bloomberg. I'll do a write-in vote for Bernie rather than vote for that worthless piece of fuck.

by Anonymousreply 36February 15, 2020 2:31 PM

Most people don't vote. Or they'll fall prey to the fallacy that the good economy, lots of McJobs and low gasoline prices are all the work of our genius President Trump.

by Anonymousreply 37February 15, 2020 2:46 PM

R36, you know you'll cave and vote for the Democrat nominee if it's Bloomberg. It matters that much!

by Anonymousreply 38February 15, 2020 2:57 PM

Feeling inspired is NOT the same thing as agreeing 100% on a candidates position.

You do need a candidate who is inspirational to people. It's why Clinton won, it's why Obama won. Biden is faltering in large part because people view him as tired, as going through the motions. Compare him to Buttigieg, Sanders, Warren who get people excited at the prospect of having them in the White House. With Biden, it comes off as a necessary duty, but nothing beyond that.

by Anonymousreply 39February 15, 2020 3:06 PM

As far as the primary goes, I'm voting for whoever's in the running that I think will make the best president, and right now that's Sanders. As far as his electability, he seems to be experiencing a 2016 Trump effect whereby the more voters are told they shouldn't vote for him, they want to vote for him. But that doesn't make him Trump. As far as I know he doesn't have any dealings with the Russian mob or fuck his daughter or eat nothing but fast food takeout because he's terrified of being poisoned. And I don't think he'd push the button. Trump and Bloomberg? I don't trust either of them not to nuke anybody.

by Anonymousreply 40February 15, 2020 3:19 PM

Bernie is just not far left enough. Heterosexuality is anti-progressive.

By virtue of being an out, loud, and proud married gay man, Pete is the most radical and therefore the most qualified candidate in this or any race that ever has been run or ever will be run ever again. Goddamnit, if you’re not a self hating homophobic dirtbag, then you will vote for Pete Buttigieg and not ask fucking questions! And when he is president, you will obey his every word.

by Anonymousreply 41February 15, 2020 4:01 PM

Vote pink no matter what you think. Gay people need to start supporting gay candidates because they are gay. Heterosexuals have never had our best interests at heart and they never will. Gay people know what’s best for absolutely everybody with no exceptions whatsoever. That alone qualifies Pete to be president of not just the United States, but of the entire fucking universe as far as I’m concerned!

by Anonymousreply 42February 15, 2020 4:05 PM

Given that anyone not voting for the Democratic candidate (whoever it is) is de facto voting for Trump and the Republicans, it seems that many posters with their various dealbreakers are willing to vote against gay rights, for low taxes on billionaires and higher costs for everyone else, for handing our national policies over to foreign dictators who have some kind of leverage, and the various other Trumpy policies that are ruining the country. I'll vote for Bernie or Bloomberg or anyone in between; it's the overall platform that matters.

by Anonymousreply 43February 15, 2020 4:23 PM

R31 I'm now beginning to realize that DL is full of a bunch of uppity, patronizing lily-white queens who live in a bubble. If you want to complain about those who plan to sit out the election this thread is a good place to start.

by Anonymousreply 44February 15, 2020 5:41 PM

R30 I don't think there are any candidates currently running with the amount of baggage Hillary carried. She was disliked by many from both parties. There is a big difference here so I wouldn't weigh voter turnout against 2016.

by Anonymousreply 45February 15, 2020 5:48 PM

R45 They're just getting started with Bloomberg, who has Hillary beat by ten miles.

And Biden may not have baggage, but the enthusiasm level is the highest it's been for any democratic candidate in a long while.

by Anonymousreply 46February 15, 2020 5:59 PM

I don't think I could bring myself to vote for Tom Steyer and his reparations checks.

by Anonymousreply 47February 15, 2020 6:05 PM

Regardless of who the Democratic nominee is, I will vote blue, simply because I care enough about the future of the Supreme Court. What goes on there could affect us far longer than any president is in office.

by Anonymousreply 48February 15, 2020 6:45 PM

it really is THAT important

by Anonymousreply 49February 15, 2020 7:28 PM

I like a few of the democratic candidates, I've donated to a few.

I'd vote for almost any blue candidate, but my the NYPD presence at the voting polls over the last couple of years has pretty much turned me away from voting.

Not certain why these officers are waiting outside the polls unless it's to harass, arrest or shoot voters. I didn't vote during the last election because when I walked into the polls I saw three NYPD officers and they looked like they were ready to shoot voters, so I turned around and left. A real turn-off from the election system.

I'm assuming that Stacey Abrams is that the top of many candidates VP lists. That should juice turn out amongst black voters. I don't really care for Bernie supporters, even though I do like many of Bernie's ideas. Whoever is the candidate will get my vote. At the very least, even if it is Bloomberg, things will stop getting worse.

by Anonymousreply 52February 15, 2020 11:59 PM

Just to add to my above comment, I really hope the die-hard supporters realize when their preferred candidate doesn't win the nomination that things may not get appreciably better with somebody else, but they can get a whole lot worse if we don't vote this asshole of the White House. That's the message I've been spreading to my students who think that voting doesn't matter.

by Anonymousreply 53February 16, 2020 12:02 AM

Voting? Elections? THOSE DAYS ARE OVER. Dictators don't allow free and fair elections.

by Anonymousreply 54February 16, 2020 12:04 AM

R51, as a primary voter, I guess I missed the memo.

by Anonymousreply 55February 16, 2020 12:38 AM

Soon it will be the moment of destiny for the Mayor Pete-stans, formerly the Hillary-stans.

I like Bernie of course, but I'd even take Bloomberg. Hell, at this point I'd probably take Scaramucci.

Love and kisses from the continent with the highest degree of human development and greatest levels of happiness on earth. Long live Social Democracy! Long Live Democratic Socialism!

by Anonymousreply 56February 16, 2020 12:57 AM

Every time you post, R56, a Bernie supporter decides to support someone else. Keep it up.

by Anonymousreply 57February 16, 2020 1:30 AM

I'll only vote blue - not pink. Sanders is not a Democrat. He's never done shit for the Democratic Party. Never raised money for the party or its candidates. Out of 239 Dems in the House, he has endorsed nine. 9 out of 239. He can kiss my ass.

by Anonymousreply 58February 16, 2020 1:36 AM

I'm a Pete supporter who thought Hillary was horrible.

by Anonymousreply 59February 16, 2020 3:06 AM

I would be most unhappy with Bloomberg, but I would still vote for him over that fat fuck Trump.

by Anonymousreply 60February 16, 2020 3:10 AM

R57 I've not even posted 300 times yet, that wouldn't even wipe out Bernie's margin of victory in Iowa.

R59, don't forget we invented democracy, philosophy, art, song, sport, theatre, and warfare (and that was just Greece).

by Anonymousreply 61February 16, 2020 4:41 AM

r29, you asked who you should vote for — it’s so hard to answer.

First, it depends on where you live. When do you get to vote? I’m in IL.

Second, the primaries are much more complicated this year. At the end of the day your most prudent strategy is to vote for who you think can beat Trump. It’s that simple. Then, you vote blue all down the ticket — and you make damn sure you vote in 2022 again, all blue. I’m talking about all your state and local reps, we **have** to regain control within our states, that’s part of why we’re in this huge mess. Final thought — some would argue that Pete can’t be elected because the American public isn’t ready for a gay President. Well guess what? They said the same about Barack and B Clinton. Hope that helps you decide. Also, go read about what laws Bernie has passed in Congress and then go compare his Senate record to other Dems in the Senate. I think you’ll be pretty shocked to see how little he’s done.

We win when we run a youthful, highly intelligent candidate who inspires people. The only candidate who fits that profile is Pete. And his stage craft is getting better by the day. He needs to fire up Americans, we can aspire to go beyond this mess — we can actually take back our government and get it working again for you and me. Do you know a single person who actually benefited from his tax cuts? I bet you don’t. Neither do I. Dems need to drive home that the economy is fucking STAGNANT, and that they are being lied to — they’re getting fucked by the GOP. Dems need to drive home what the Trump administration is ACTIVELY doing to dismantle your healthcare, medicare, medicaid, social security. Show and Tell.

I knew years ago that I am committed to voting whomever is on the ticket. But primaries are different. The Dems aren’t making they’d case right now, they need to replay 2018 strategies to win. I think all things being equal, I want Pete to win. But he will ***need*** a black VP. The VP ***must*** carry incredible talent and already have DC credentials. Why not Hakeem Jeffries?

r61, I’m a different poster, glad you’re here. Americans need to shut the hell up and start listening to people outside of our country. We need all the help we can get right now.

by Anonymousreply 62February 16, 2020 4:55 AM

If Pete doesn’t get the nomination, then I won’t vote. I will stamp my feet and pout like the Bernie cunts did during the last election and not vote for anyone just like they did.

by Anonymousreply 63February 16, 2020 5:03 AM

Thanks R62. I admit I'm trolling here a bit, but only a bit. I genuinely would vote (and donate, and campaign) for Bernie if I were an American, because I think you, and the world, need the kind of radical change he offers, but I also genuinely hope that no matter what, Trump gets taken out by one of the candidates. Even stop-and-frisk Bloomberg.

I don't agree with your pro-Pete conclusions, but your post was reasoned and interesting. Regarding the eventual VP-choice, I see the argument for a black candidate, but I think after so many near-misses female democrats also have the right to expect a woman, which is why I think Stacey Abrams could be a good option, or perhaps Kamala.

But re: 'They said the same about Barack and B Clinton.', why did they say the same about B Clinton? Because he was from the South?

by Anonymousreply 64February 16, 2020 12:12 PM

What you may not understand, ConcernedEuropean, is that Sanders has virtually no path to making radical change even if he wins. Republicans have too many tools to block such change. A Sanders presidency would mobilize Republican grassroots support. We would end up in a worse situation, just as in 1994 and 2010. But Sanders supporters believe in magic and ignore history, so here we are.

by Anonymousreply 65February 16, 2020 12:25 PM

Of course Republicans in Congress will try to block what any elected Democrat tries to do. That is not a reason not to try.

by Anonymousreply 66February 16, 2020 12:27 PM

I agree with you to some extent, R65, but as every even-numbered year in the past three decades has shown, the Republicans treat *any* Democratic president as illegitimate and an existential threat to all that Americans hold dear. Then they get out their base and win with a gerrymandered and/or electoral-colleged minority. The answer isn't necessarily to go more moderate (though that may sometimes help), but to push back hard with unequivocal messages about Democratic superiority at kitchen-table issues (including taxes, income, social safety nets, health care, clean air and water)—something Democrats don't do enough of.

Your voted doesn't count.

by Anonymousreply 73February 16, 2020 2:42 PM

Norman Desmond and his band of bro's are going to ruin this election if they don't get their way once again. Glad Biden is calling Bernisha's ass out for having his bro's do his dirty work for him. That act is wearing thin.

Besides no one wants Nina Turner's loud, ignorant ass up there lecturing the party on who to vote for. Bitch, sit down with your Jill Stein supporting ass.

If Norman wants the nomination, he's going to have to fire a few people along the way, as well as make amends with Hillary supporters big time. Karma's a bitch, and her name is Hillary!

by Anonymousreply 74February 16, 2020 2:42 PM

Trump got elected with the support of virtually no Republican member of Congress, and now they're all in his pocket, with the exception of Mitt Romney. Imagine a unified block of Democrats, controlling the House and the Senate, behind President Sanders..... unlikely? Lots of unlikely things have happened recently.

Nothing is immutable.

by Anonymousreply 75February 16, 2020 2:53 PM

I am curious though: other than eldergays, midwestern fraus and billionnaires, which groups would be considered Mayor Pete's base?

If Biden falters in SC, where does the black vote go?

by Anonymousreply 76February 16, 2020 2:54 PM

Why has YourMillennialCunt stopped signing his posts like at R69?

Is he embarrassed at how much people hate him now?

by Anonymousreply 77February 16, 2020 2:56 PM

Do you really think that Bernie has a base beyond the young and woke, R76? A new poll shows that less than half of Americans would vote for a socialist. More people would vote for a gay person, an atheist (a big deal considering the fundie nature of this country), a black person, etc. A Bernie nomination won't be a loss on Corbyn levels, it'll be worse.

by Anonymousreply 78February 16, 2020 3:11 PM

Bernie and the BernieBros want to make America look like Russia in November of 2017: everybody's private property is confiscated and "redistributed equally."

What they don't tell you is the Politburo (Bernie and his bros) will skim off 95% it, leaving the balance to be fought over "equally" by the rest of us.

by Anonymousreply 79February 16, 2020 3:12 PM

I swear I've never met a Bernie Sanders supporter- not in 2016 and not now. They appear to be all online. Which makes me suspicious they can be hackers.

by Anonymousreply 80February 16, 2020 3:20 PM

Re: R79's "...everybody's private property is confiscated and "redistributed equally."

Yep. And no one but losers and leeches would vote for this platform. I'm not going to continue to bust my ass to make my business a success and keep the hard working employees I have, happy, so Bernie and his trash can take everything from me, to elevate people who haven't worked as hard, sacrificed, put in the hours or have the people depending on them that I do. Fuck that, I'll just close up shop and we can all go on the Bernie Dole, like all the other Bros are creaming themselves over doing!

by Anonymousreply 81February 16, 2020 3:22 PM

Tell me how you see Michael Bloomberg as being in even the slightest way different from Donald Trump?

by Anonymousreply 82February 16, 2020 3:24 PM

I don't think Bloomberg has any tyrannical fantasies. Yes, he's a an egomaniac like most billionaires; the difference is that he is a self-made man, not some fucking grifter who squandered the fortune he was left with like the Cheeto. I don't want Bloomberg, but I'll take him over Dump any day of the week.

by Anonymousreply 83February 16, 2020 3:27 PM

R82, Sanders is the one I find indistinguishable from Trump. Cranky, fueled by anger and with an online troll army (in Trump's case Russian). At least Bloomberg is a successful guy (unlike bankrupt Trump), who supports action on climate change, gun control and fixes to health care that are achievable.

by Anonymousreply 84February 16, 2020 3:28 PM

Right R56, and you people got the world into the worst two wars the world has ever seen, and that included GENOCIDE! Not one war but TWO!!! So shut the fuck up. Not to mention that the British enslaved half the world's brown and black people. Eat shit and die.

by Anonymousreply 85February 16, 2020 3:50 PM

Some of the negative comments about Bernie, Bloomberg, and Pete are as delusional as Trump supporters. None of these candidates are the problem. It's those who SIT OUT AN ELECTION that are. Seriously, this country (perhaps the entire world) will be fucked if Trump is re-elected and those people will be to blame.

by Anonymousreply 86February 16, 2020 3:57 PM

Oh hai there hysterical frau at R85, the original inhabitants of your country would like a word.

"Not to mention that the British enslaved half the world's brown and black people. "

Oh boy, I never knew that. To whom did they sell them?

by Anonymousreply 95February 16, 2020 5:48 PM

For R78:

" An analysis of recent polls from November of 2018 to March 2019 shows Sanders is more popular with people of color than white people, and women like Sanders as much as men do, if not more. He leads every other possible 2020 contender with Latino voters and lags behind only Joe Biden — who hasn’t announced a bid yet — with African-American voters. Sanders’ polling numbers with black voters are double that of Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), according to a March Morning Consult poll."

Source: Vox

And:

In the months leading up to the caucus, Bernie Sanders, more than any other candidate, made it a point to court these workers — even organizing for the “satellite caucuses” aimed at nontraditional voters that other presidential hopefuls wrote off. It worked. According to exit polls, the democratic socialist won 38 percent of nonwhite caucusgoers — trouncing his next closest competitor, Joe Biden, by 21 percentage points — and 32 percent of participants with a household income under $50,000. (That number jumped to 43 percent for those making under $25,000.)

And you did it with the native Indians in America too, since you fucking British were the first to slaughter them in your new country. Fucking troll.

r50 I'd really like yo drill down into your mindset, because it seems very odd. So you saw cops outside of a voting location and thought they would be after you? Perhaps they were there to ensure that crazies didn't do anything to disrupt that location's voting processes. Are you typically fearful of the police? Do you commit crimes on a regular basis? What's the deal?

by Anonymousreply 101February 16, 2020 7:34 PM

r82 Bloomberg supports abortion and gay rights, so his Supreme Court nominees would also support those bedrock Democratic principles. That alone makes him a better President then Trump, even if he kept all of Trump's other policies. Presidents come and go, but the court appointments are for life. We are fighting for our rights.

by Anonymousreply 102February 16, 2020 7:38 PM

If it's any comfort, in this post by DL hiss-inspirer Jennifer Rubin @ WaPo, DL frequent saint Stacey Abrams is cited as the basis to believe, whatever is going on, this thing is far from over and any talk of a front runner is premature.

Two key points:

(this one another citation, not hers, if you've started hissing already:) Democrats in 2018, especially the successful ones, did not run on particularly radical programs but rather on opposition to Trump himself, and to unpopular GOP actions on economic policy and health care (tax cuts for the rich and efforts to repeal Obamacare’s protections, for example). In the end, the 2018 results do not support Sanders’s theories — not the central importance of high turnout, nor the supposed non-importance of changing mainstream voters’ minds, nor the most effective issues to run on.

We have yet to see a debate in which everyone gangs up on Sanders (Radical! Divisive!) or on Bloomberg (Stop-and-frisk! Buying the election!). We forget that on race — for example, Biden (crime bill), Sanders (crime bill), Klobuchar (prosecution), Buttigieg (policing) and Bloomberg — all the candidates have demerits. The issue is who has the best response when confronted with his or her inadequacies.

Bernie, Bloomberg, Gabbard... all NO.

by Anonymousreply 104February 16, 2020 8:21 PM

That eliminates Bloomberg. He's as Red as Trump. I don't get why people think it's a big deal that Bernie is usually an Independent but has voted with the Dems his entire career and Bloomberg who only switched from being a Republican for this race and acted like the Republican he is his entire 12 years as mayor of NYC is no big deal. So Bloomberg is for clean air, big whoop! He hates the poor, people of color and unions and worked to destroy all during his 12 years. He is a Republican through and through. Plus he, like MoscowMitch and Ms. Lindsey is deeply ashamed of being gay. He's as racist as Trump and will fuck over the poor and working people as much as Trump. So of course I will vote blue no matter who but never Bloomberg.

by Anonymousreply 105February 16, 2020 8:32 PM

I'll vote for Bernie if he's the nominee but this kind of rhetoric isn't going to win in the suburbs where Democrats did very well in 2018.

Not American so take what I say with that. Sanders supporter, I don't think he's perfect, and I even think a President Sanders would bring a multitude of serious problems, but he's who I've liked most since even before 2015. Some of those problems come squarely from him seemingly insisting that he would remain an Independent while using Democratic infrastructure. If he wins the nom and changes affiliation (or swears to) to Dem, that helps some things along.

So if I was an American Democrat? Gabbard, super grudgingly yes, with constant sideeye to her henceforth. Klobuchar, I'd ruefully laugh about it, but ultimately yes and hope that progressive activism can bug the hell out of her. Buttigieg I resent more with every day, and a part of myself has a deep fear of what he'd bring (won't explain here) but yes. Warren I'd at least tolerate, yes, and maybe bother to work for her win! Just definitely not first choice, and that's more stark all the time. Steyer, yes, but my faith in America would be further shattered. Biden would be goddamn pathetic at this point, but if I had to see the writing on the wall, sure he eventually gets my vote.

But Bloomberg? With all info about him taken into account? Sure, a part of me goes 'okay..', but a FAR BIGGER part of me SCREAMS "HELL NO!" This is nearly literally and directly voting for a dedicated Republican with Republican ideals, processes, culture, assumptions, etc etc ON AND ON. He's a terrible racist. A terrible sexist. A terrible homo and transphobe (some here would like the latter, but screw that). The premiere example of severe American classism. He's overtly bribing officials and cultural figures all over to support him. If Trump is the deplorable of the nation that even America tries to bottle up out of shame, Bloomberg is the American face that all haters otherwise have seen for decades, centuries, that is the gigantic evil hypocrite that decrees it knows what's best for you while it kicks you in the face.

The answer I might come to is that I could see myself, again if American, to be dragged to the polls for Bloomberg, but I would actually have to be dragged by incredible peer pressure to accompany others on that election day, convinced that at least the most barely lip serviced liberal or even progressive values are supported by the Democratic party still. I really can't imagine myself having the care to go myself, whereas I could for Biden, Buttigieg, Klobuchar, and I'd likely go and try to encourage others if its Warren. Trump more deeply represents that which I hate, but Bloomberg, while not as entirely deeply, represents *more* things I hate and I'd have to not just pinch my nose but cover it with beautiful scents of party values in order to brace myself for the hour in which I MIGHT vote for him. Dramatic? Whatever, its flat-out what would go on for me.

In Canada here, there would be no equivalent. None would even be permitted to lead the Conservative party, let alone Liberals or especially NDP. Michael Bloomberg is a detestable abuser of a man.

by Anonymousreply 107February 16, 2020 8:47 PM

R105 which candidate would offer a supreme court nominee closer to your preferred political standing, Bloomberg or Trump? Bernie supporters that are anti-Bloomberg make great points, but when we talk about the real purpose of taking the WH in 2020, the Supreme Court, they can't seem to justify revoking their support for a Bloomberg Democratic nominee. If you like the rapist fratboy, Brett Kavanaugh, a Heritage Foundation pick, then you should vote for Trump or stay home in November because he will find another one of those to take Ginsberg's seat. If you'd like someone that will support your rights as a gay man or a woman's right to choose then Vote Blue no Matter Who in November. It's that simple.

Remember this face, and the faces of many other people that have suffered under Trump. Perhaps Bloomberg will be disaster for minorities, only time will tell, but I guarantee that Trump will only get worse. Please reconsider, these choices aren't ideal, but life is rarely a Leave It to Beaver episode.

Bernbots want you to think that their cult leader MUST be nominated because any other candidate won’t get their vote. They are basically holding the country’s future hostage.

by Anonymousreply 132February 17, 2020 3:19 PM

Bernie Bro at R26, think about this. When Trump is gone, I’m sure we’ll find that not only did he use his position to help Ivanka get favorable Chinese contracts and intimidate diplomats to use the Trump hotel in D.C., but I’ll bet you anything that he’s figured out a way to outright loot the treasury, just steal money, on top of taking bribes from Putin and anybody else that will offer him a nickel.

It’s pretty obvious the stock market is being artificially inflated by his cronies. The second he’s gone, it will fall to its natural level or even lower, so they can say it’s the Democrats’ fault. On top of the economic mess that’s coming up in China, we’re likely to have a recession which means lowered tax base. I read yesterday that some businesses are already out of Chinese parts and may have to lay off very soon. Also read that Chinese goods may be sold out and off the shelves as soon as April. They’re not making more right now, factories are shuttered. We’re screwed.

Trump has run up the deficit a few trillion already and Republicans say nothing, but they’ll be having hysterics when we have a Democratic President and conveniently “forget” that Democrats had nothing to do with it.

I know Bernie Bros don’t like Pete, especially because they think he’s a corporate shill. But SB had no tax base and no money to spend. They were broke. Pete got corporations to invest and that brought in jobs and money. He could not have brought in jobs and infrastructure without corporations. They just didn’t have the money on their own.

Bernie’s M4A is not getting past a Republican Congress, period. These are not ordinary times. Demanding the ideal with no cooperation at all gets you nothing. If Pete can get the uninsured insured, that’s better than we have. Congress may pass that. They’re not passing a complete overthrow of the system, nor can we pay for it. We’re broker than we know. Just wait until Trump gets out. Then the real shit will hit the fan. Trump got us out of trade agreements that are never coming back. Allies are gone. We can’t tell the Kurds, Ukrainians and others, just kidding haha. We’re out of international trade agreements and will have to crawl back begging for scraps. Meanwhile other countries got those contracts.

Trump has done long term damage spanning decades. People don’t know yet how bad it is. But there won’t be any money to fix it. If we don’t try to get at least some of our infrastructure repaired by corporations, we won’t be able to do it at all. So hating corporations will get us nowhere. Blame Trump.

This situation is the perfect storm. The perfect is the enemy of the good right now. Once a Democrat is in for a few years and can right the ship, we’ll be in a better position.

by Anonymousreply 133February 17, 2020 3:42 PM

R101, this is R50.

Maybe my post was unclear. Sorry about that. Uniformed NYPD were inside the building standing near the voter information table. My neighbors and I have noticed them for a few years now, so we just turn around and leave without voting. Last year, I had election day off from work. I tried to vote in the morning and later on in the afternoon, but both times the police were present.

No, I don't commit crimes. No I don't have a police record. I am registered to vote.

Not certain why they'd need four police to be stationed where people are voting unless they are looking to intimidate, arrest, harass, shoot or kill people.

by Anonymousreply 155February 18, 2020 1:36 AM

I will have a really hard time voting for Bernie Sanders. There is a part of me who thinks that Super Tuesday and then the Super Delegates will save us if he gets anywhere closer to the nomination than he already is, but just in case... I just can't see anything good coming from a Sanders presidency. He will destroy the current democratic party down ballot.

I loathe Trump with every fiber of my being, but I think I loathe Sanders more. Some of you are going to call me a bot, but I don't care. Sanders is a grifter, a carpet bagger, a liar, and a plague on our house. I just don't see any way that I can support him in good conscience.

And yes, I know it's wrong and selfish. But I would rather keep the House and possibly get the Senate and we won't do that with Bernie at the top of the ticket. The presidency is not the be all end all. Congress is a co-equal branch of government. I'd rather control that, then suffer through Bernie.

Go ahead and call me names.

by Anonymousreply 156February 18, 2020 1:37 AM

The problem at the end of the day is that the GOP is a CULT. This comes in handy when it comes to getting things done (they don't have the numbers that we have but they do show up on election day. They vote no matter what. They tow the line while holding their noses and vote with their leader 99% of the time. Also, they get out and vote. Evil evangelical pastors spew politics from the pulpit while getting the cult members to the polls. Of course, they also cheat. Dems are harder to motivate; it's frustrating. We are smarter, have opinions and allow those differences of opinion to dictate coming together and supporting party leaders.

by Anonymousreply 160February 18, 2020 2:09 AM

You all act like voting is some sort of blood sacrifice of your very own mothers. You are just checking a damn box or filling in a circle. It's really not asking for much to vote for the Democrat. When the Democrat wins you can go back to being your typical unsatisfied selves, but for a few seconds just check the damn box for the Democratic Presidential Candidate in the general. I assure you, you've had to make worse compromises for your job or loved ones, yet somehow you were able to forgive and move on.

Republicans don't say this crap and trust me they are equally as disgusted with some of their candidates, yet the hold the line and often win. You have no real liberal morals or objectives if you will give up an inch of progress because you can't move 30 feet forward. Instead you'd rather have the country fall back on it's ass. Some of you are truly shameful so-called liberals.

[quote]I really wonder how many people here I hate Sanders so much because he dared to run against Clinton?

That’s not the reason. Several other people ran against her. Personally, most of the reason I can’t stand him is because his supporters are so incredibly obnoxious. The rest of the reason is that I think he’s too far to the left and therefore unelectable. Progressives greatly overestimate the general appetite of the broader American electorate for progressive policies.

Yes, the public loves the idea of Medicare for All. Until you start talking about raising taxes. Then that support evaporates.

But mainly, I can’t stand the “vote for Bernie or we’ll cut your goddamn throat” attitude of most of his supporters.

by Anonymousreply 167February 18, 2020 3:09 PM

Oh fuck off. I'm a Bernie supporter and I've never even come close to threatening anyone on or off line. I was very much for Warren but I didn't blame Bernie or his supporters when her campaign went to hell. He and they are no more to blame for the shitty campaign Hillary ran. The way I see it it's Bernie supporters who are getting bullied and picked on in the last couple of weeks.

Only the stupid freak when they realize their taxes might go up a teeny bit to cover M4A. The money they will save on no co-pays and no out of pocket expenses for all the things insurance companies deny will be so much more than the puny rise in their taxes. They can't stretch their small brains to realize what matters is how much money you keep in the end. They would rather give more to keep billionaire Insurance CEOs getting their billions than give a few dollars more a year to the government. Funny how no one minds their tax dollars going to endless wars or to the pockets of the 1%.

by Anonymousreply 177February 19, 2020 12:11 AM

Well, I wondered. You seem quite childish ion every other respect.

by Anonymousreply 178February 19, 2020 12:11 AM

There are options R175. Pete is under 70. Pete is not a billionaire.

by Anonymousreply 179February 19, 2020 12:15 AM

Pete and Amy are the only reasonable candidates.

by Anonymousreply 180February 19, 2020 12:25 AM

Neither Pete nor Amy are going to be on the ballot in November, which leaves either two old white men or two billionaires. Thanks, but I'll go out and find a party with a candidate more to my liking.

by Anonymousreply 181February 19, 2020 12:30 AM

"And that Medicare for all is a pipe dream...how can people be so fucking stupid and naive? "

Hai there, remember us???

by Anonymousreply 182February 19, 2020 1:22 AM

The difference between the US and socialist European countries is our burdensome military budget. Also, 44 percent of all Americans pay $0 federal income tax.

by Anonymousreply 183February 19, 2020 1:44 AM

Of course I'll vote blue no matter who. I just really dislike Bernie

by Anonymousreply 184February 19, 2020 1:45 AM

"is our burdensome military budget"

We have a solution!

by Anonymousreply 185February 19, 2020 2:12 AM

You are a RUSSIAN asshole trying to start shit, I hope you get cancer and die soon.

by Anonymousreply 186February 19, 2020 3:03 AM

Pete has done NOTHING!!!!

by Anonymousreply 187February 19, 2020 8:57 PM

R181 - Thanks you for being patriot American who knows that the democratic peoples are all very bads and we must not vote for them. We must only votes for the Americans who are like us, Americans! I too, am a, patriot American! I lives in St. Minneaoplis in the state of the same.

by Anonymousreply 188February 19, 2020 9:00 PM

Bloomberg is a fucking GARBAGE HEAP. Racist, sexist, fake Democrat who’s really Republican. I’ll sit out the general or vote 3rd party if he’s the nominee.

by Anonymousreply 189February 19, 2020 9:01 PM

R189.

by Anonymousreply 190February 19, 2020 9:27 PM

R189 you are an idiot. There is absolutely no reason to sit out this election. Do you think down ballot races are won by sitting out? I’m shocked by the short sightedness of so many adults. There is an entire state and local government that requires your participation to determine your representatives. Some of those candidates could be younger versions of your ideal candidate, but because you sit your lazy ass at home they may never get a chance to lead.

Never stay home! There are other races that require your opinion, even if you’re a proven asshole.

by Anonymousreply 191February 19, 2020 9:29 PM

After tomight's debate I'm pretty sure Bloomberg will not be on the November ballot.

by Anonymousreply 192February 20, 2020 3:40 AM

Bloomberg should just turn his campaign into non-stop, brutal anti-Trump ads.

by Anonymousreply 193February 20, 2020 3:49 AM

Do you think the Bernie Bros will sit out the vote if he doesn't win the primaries?

by Anonymousreply 194March 1, 2020 12:57 AM

If Bernie doesn't win the Democratic nomination, I am hoping that the Bernie Bros realize that Bernie will probably not run again as he will be 83 in September of 2024 if he is even still alive. Having a temper tantrum and refusing to vote for the Democratic nominee will be pointless so they might as well get on board. I am hopeful but not confident they will act like adults.

by Anonymousreply 195March 1, 2020 1:49 AM

It all depends on Bernie. If he gives a full endorsement of the nominee, then maybe they’ll vote for the Dem. the weird thing is that many Bernie voters will secondarily vote for Trump . Fools.

by Anonymousreply 196March 1, 2020 4:02 AM

Bernie doesn't think of himself as a Democrat, so I don't give a flying fuck about him. I don't understand why he was allowed to run as a Democrat for President, when he doesn't run as a Democrat for his Vermont Senate seat.

by Anonymousreply 197March 1, 2020 1:44 PM

Exactly R197. I'm happy to 'Vote Blue', straight through. Sanders admits himself, however, he isn't a Democrat. Blue = Sanders

Sorry, bitchy Bros. Sanders should shout less.

by Anonymousreply 198March 1, 2020 3:11 PM

Blue, no matter who, except for Tulsi (Trump in a skirt) Gabbard.

by Anonymousreply 199March 1, 2020 3:14 PM

Tulsi would not vote to impeach Trump. She's too much associated with Putin's interests.

by Anonymousreply 200March 1, 2020 3:46 PM

The Sandinista Bern Bros don't understand, the free stuff they demand will require them to labor for earnings at a 70% tax rate. They will not enjoy the mandatory 12 hour workdays on collective farms or in the state-run revolutionary factories

by Anonymousreply 201March 1, 2020 3:58 PM

In case some of you missed it the first several times it has been mentioned:

by Anonymousreply 202March 1, 2020 4:23 PM

Vote Blue! This means you too, Bernie Bros.

by Anonymousreply 203March 4, 2020 4:49 PM

I was planning to vote blue, but with Bernie out, all we have left is Gestapo Tulsi Gabbard . How can anyone vote for her?

by Anonymousreply 204March 4, 2020 7:15 PM

I'm not voting. You weirdos need to calm the fuck down.

by Anonymousreply 205March 4, 2020 7:17 PM

Agree with R205.

by Anonymousreply 206March 5, 2020 2:33 AM

If you're not voting then shut the fuck up. No one cares what you think.

by Anonymousreply 207March 5, 2020 2:34 AM

[quote]I'm not voting. You weirdos need to calm the fuck down.

Oh yes, the weirdos would be the ones trying to get Trump out of the WH, not the whining, petulant children stomping their feet if their candidate doesn't get the nomination. Sitting home and not voting is so much more mature. What and idiotic view.

by Anonymousreply 208March 5, 2020 3:23 AM

an* idiotic

by Anonymousreply 209March 5, 2020 3:24 AM

I saw a sign in someone's yard: "ANY RESPONSIBLE ADULT 2020" in red, white, and blue.

I want one if those signs for my front window.

by Anonymousreply 210March 5, 2020 6:26 AM

Love that, R210. What state?

by Anonymousreply 211March 5, 2020 1:47 PM

Luckily, we have a solid man in the fight. Biden has experience, connections, clout and a good reputation (despite the Russiapublican smear campaign).

by Anonymousreply 212March 5, 2020 3:14 PM

R212, ugh. you've convinced me not to vote.

by Anonymousreply 213March 5, 2020 8:01 PM

Blue no matter who, r213!

by Anonymousreply 214March 5, 2020 10:48 PM

So now we're down to two old demented white guys, one of which will run against the old demented white guy currently in office.

We're doomed.

by Anonymousreply 215March 5, 2020 10:51 PM

Very true, I concur R215,

In addition to these white guys as "old" and "demented", why didn't you include "hateful" "ignorant" " homophobic" "racist" "sexist" "unAmerican" or "despotic" in your description?

Yes, we are doomed.

by Anonymousreply 216March 6, 2020 1:10 AM

The real throwback would be to somewhat attractive white man in his 40s or 50s. Democrats haven’t nominated a white man in 16 years.

We are not doomed. Biden seems to be mounting a campaign that is bigger than him - about building a team of passionate, recognizable Democrats who are led by a competent, decent guy. His less than luminous but always decent personality can become an asset.
