Not American so take what I say with that. Sanders supporter, I don't think he's perfect, and I even think a President Sanders would bring a multitude of serious problems, but he's who I've liked most since even before 2015. Some of those problems come squarely from him seemingly insisting that he would remain an Independent while using Democratic infrastructure. If he wins the nom and changes affiliation (or swears to) to Dem, that helps some things along.
So if I was an American Democrat? Gabbard, super grudgingly yes, with constant sideeye to her henceforth. Klobuchar, I'd ruefully laugh about it, but ultimately yes and hope that progressive activism can bug the hell out of her. Buttigieg I resent more with every day, and a part of myself has a deep fear of what he'd bring (won't explain here) but yes. Warren I'd at least tolerate, yes, and maybe bother to work for her win! Just definitely not first choice, and that's more stark all the time. Steyer, yes, but my faith in America would be further shattered. Biden would be goddamn pathetic at this point, but if I had to see the writing on the wall, sure he eventually gets my vote.
But Bloomberg? With all info about him taken into account? Sure, a part of me goes 'okay..', but a FAR BIGGER part of me SCREAMS "HELL NO!" This is nearly literally and directly voting for a dedicated Republican with Republican ideals, processes, culture, assumptions, etc etc ON AND ON. He's a terrible racist. A terrible sexist. A terrible homo and transphobe (some here would like the latter, but screw that). The premiere example of severe American classism. He's overtly bribing officials and cultural figures all over to support him. If Trump is the deplorable of the nation that even America tries to bottle up out of shame, Bloomberg is the American face that all haters otherwise have seen for decades, centuries, that is the gigantic evil hypocrite that decrees it knows what's best for you while it kicks you in the face.
The answer I might come to is that I could see myself, again if American, to be dragged to the polls for Bloomberg, but I would actually have to be dragged by incredible peer pressure to accompany others on that election day, convinced that at least the most barely lip serviced liberal or even progressive values are supported by the Democratic party still. I really can't imagine myself having the care to go myself, whereas I could for Biden, Buttigieg, Klobuchar, and I'd likely go and try to encourage others if its Warren. Trump more deeply represents that which I hate, but Bloomberg, while not as entirely deeply, represents *more* things I hate and I'd have to not just pinch my nose but cover it with beautiful scents of party values in order to brace myself for the hour in which I MIGHT vote for him. Dramatic? Whatever, its flat-out what would go on for me.
In Canada here, there would be no equivalent. None would even be permitted to lead the Conservative party, let alone Liberals or especially NDP. Michael Bloomberg is a detestable abuser of a man.
