Dissident Fan Gurls
When I first found DL a few years back, a wise DLer offered up the opinion that the numerous Stan threads on here were largely the work of what he called "dissident fan gurls"--Stans, who, for whatever reason, had become slightly disenchanted or angry with the object of their stan-dom and found that DL was the only forum where they could express their displeasure--and the strongly held belief that their lust object was either gay or bisexual--due to the anonymous nature of the site.
Back then the Stans were all about Gale Harold (QAF), Jon Kortajena and and a bunch of other less-than-famous actors I'm forgetting.
It's proven to be a very accurate description even as the actors in question have changed--what made me think of it is a thread that keeps popping up about T. Chalamet entitled (can't make this up) "Does anyone else hate Timothée Chalamet's stupid French name?"
The existence of "dissident fan gurls" is one of the more bizarre and interesting things I've learned from DL.

They are lunatics, they post on thread about the celebrity just talk shit about them. I never check who is posting, but I assume they are always the same people. They are convinced the celebrity, or their PR team at least, check the threads and they even send direct messages to them. I don't check thread about Luke Evans, Lee Pace, Armie Hammer and recently, Henry Cavill anymore. They hate them so much, everything they do is trash, even if they are a huge success, doesn't matter, facts are irrelevant for this people. I don't see how someone can be more pathetic than that.

R2 Yeah, I really don't understand this "PR shill " obsession some posters have. There are quite a few actors and musicians whose work I personally don't care for but I don't imagine that anyone who might like them or post something positive is being paid by a publicist . Sometimes all it takes is one mildly positive comment in a thread full of about 400 catty comments and the PR shill accusations start.

So where does the gay fit in? Are the stans mad because they think they don't have "a chance" with them due to their supposed gayness? (I'm assuming frau stans.) Are the stans trying to besmirch the celebrity's good name with a (horrors!) gay allegation? Or are they just sounding the "gay alarm" so they can post here ad nauseam about the celebrity? I'm so confused.
