I’m sorry you experienced this, OP. I’ve been bodybuilding for over twenty years, and have joined multiple gyms over the years. I’ve never encountered a bodybuilder who said anything derogatory about gay people, or heard about any physical altercations. I don’t hide the fact I am gay, yet I still have close friends there and many others ask me to spot them. Some even shower with me knowing I am gay. There is no sexual tension at all, but I admit I enjoy the view. Find yourself another gym. It may take a few weeks to find the right one. Feel the energy in the room. You know automatically where you’ll feel insecure. Bodybuilders have real lives, they are architects, engineers, lawyers, I even know a bodybuilding opera singer. Maybe the demographics in the neighborhood will give you a clue. Call the police if you are ever threatened or attacked. The gym has a reputation to keep. They want to be a friendly place, otherwise they will close down. They won’t tolerate bad behavior from their members. Good luck!
