Professor Feldman gives testimony on what impeachment means as the republicans try to interrupt
by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 4, 2019 2:40 PM |
Nadler is not as smooth as Schiff. This will just be an opportunity to arguing and won't be as interesting as the intelligence committee.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 4, 2019 2:41 PM |
Between the screaming and interrupting, the Repugs are like 7-year olds.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 4, 2019 2:41 PM |
Professor pings a little, no?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 4, 2019 2:42 PM |
Professor is doing a good job explaining why Cheatolini should be impeached.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 4, 2019 2:44 PM |
Feldman came prepared: he kept right on talking, ignoring the Repug 'Rassling Team as they tried to interrupt his opening statement with frivolous points of order. The good professor is not having it!
Lock and load, buckle up and pass the tequila.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 4, 2019 2:49 PM |
Fuck the Repugs.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 4, 2019 2:50 PM |
Nadler is under pressure to look and perform to the level of Schiff. The Republicans are in sheer desperation. These interruptions....
The Democrats (in my opinion) are coming across at the moment as being unprepared to rebut the Republican shenanigans.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 4, 2019 2:52 PM |
Let's waste as much time as we can. No facts so delay, delay, delay.

Professor Pamela "takes no tea for the fever!" She read Collins' ass!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 4, 2019 2:55 PM |
Karlin was on fire!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 4, 2019 3:02 PM |
Who is this aspie behind Gerhardt at the moment who looks like he should be in second period?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 4, 2019 3:04 PM |
I love Karlan. What passion. She really conveys the sense of urgency to act, and the magnitude of the evil perpetrated by Trump. I loved the way she gave historical context for the right to vote, how sacred it is, how evil and vile election tampering by a foreign adversary was.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 4, 2019 3:04 PM |
I am amazed at the young people there. They seem too young to be on their way to a career in government or law.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 4, 2019 3:06 PM |
If the Republicans insist on calling Schiff, then what's to stop the Democrats from calling Nunes? He has much to hide. He'd shit himself on the stand.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 4, 2019 3:07 PM |
Ok, that kid behind Gerhardt is starting to get distracting.
Shouldn't you be in school right about now young man?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 4, 2019 3:07 PM |
The people in the background are generally reporters, they were in the last hearing.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 4, 2019 3:08 PM |
I agree R15, Nunes should be called as a witness to account for his own involvement in this conspiracy.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 4, 2019 3:10 PM |
Mr. Gerhardt seems to be covering all the bases on Trump's excuses even to shooting someone on 5th Avenue.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 4, 2019 3:12 PM |
Jon Turley used to be a commentator on Keith Olbermann’s show. Since then, I think he’s taken more conservative positions.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 4, 2019 3:13 PM |
Can someone explain to me how some others can think the evidence isn’t enough to impeach?
Dear fucking god.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 4, 2019 3:15 PM |
Got in the car and caught this in action. Who was the Repug with the cornpone accent who complained that impeachment was planned from the start because the dems just didn't like Trump? Right now I'm just calling him Cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 4, 2019 3:15 PM |
Mr. Collins, R22.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 4, 2019 3:16 PM |
R17 - Dana Milbank seated alongside "sick day girl."
Ah shit! Here's Turley whose opening statement allegedly is eight times the length of his colleagues'. Will Nadler permit him to read it in its entirety? He is, as you know, the Repug 'Rassling Team's selection to testify.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 4, 2019 3:16 PM |
They’re being timed. He can’t go over, more than to finish his current paragraph.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 4, 2019 3:18 PM |
Thanks R25.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 4, 2019 3:19 PM |
Wasn't Turley PRO Clinton impeachment 21 years ago?
Now he's anti-Impeachment for Trump?
Yeah, he's a Democrat.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 4, 2019 3:19 PM |
Turley is saying that crimes haven’t been broken. How can anyone say bribery and extortion weren’t committed? It’s obvious. Truly is wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | December 4, 2019 3:20 PM |
Here goes the Repukes again.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 4, 2019 3:21 PM |
As with the last hearing, the Democrats talk about what Trump did and the Republicans attack and try to slow down the process.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 4, 2019 3:22 PM |
Whistleblower!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 4, 2019 3:23 PM |
Yes, I simply don’t see how you can look at the evidence thus far assembled and not see clearly that what tRump did was absolutely illegal.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 4, 2019 3:23 PM |
Motioned to table. Roll Call. Do they think the result will change? HAHA!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 4, 2019 3:23 PM |
Again with the whistleblower. At this point, it's pointless. We are well beyond anything the whistleblower has to offer and knowig who the whistleblower is won't change anything.

I want to "audit" Professor Feldman's "class" all day and night.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | December 4, 2019 3:57 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 59 | December 4, 2019 4:02 PM |
You aren't sticking your neck out even one millimeter, r49. Or more likely, they're just too corrupt to care about the Constitution.

R59 - Turley, the 'Rassling Team's lone handpicked witness, is a hostile one and so the Democrats are not going to waste time and give him more time at the microphone than is necessary. The Repugs will overuse him at their risk as he may provide lengthy answers that cut into the clock.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | December 4, 2019 4:12 PM |
Nadler was my congressman for many years before I moved. He used to be grossly obese but had surgery for it. I don't know how successful he'll be running the hearing (he has to live up to the memory of Schiff) but he definitely is one of the good guys. I was very proud of his being my representative.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | December 4, 2019 4:13 PM |
This hearing is giving a lot of good sound bites for the media. It’s good that these law professors are giving real life hypotheticals. Average Americans might not think they can understand the Constitution but they can easily understand the concepts when presented as everyday scenarios.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | December 4, 2019 4:22 PM |
Noah Feldman reminds me of Gilderoy Lockhart.

I hate that CBS uses Turley on their panels.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | December 4, 2019 4:38 PM |
Just as with his opening statement, I had to put Rep. Collins on mute. I just can't handle his pronounced southern accent. My weakness. Since I'm watching on my computer, there is no way to get his statement close captioned.
I agree with Turley, that impeachments should not be rushed, but this one is very different. Elections are coming up, and the evidence is so damning.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | December 4, 2019 4:39 PM |

Does he still teach?
It would be a hoot if students started dropping Turley’s classes in droves.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | December 4, 2019 4:40 PM |
What more proof does Turley need? But committing perjury about a blow job was a threat to our nation?
by Anonymous | reply 75 | December 4, 2019 4:41 PM |
Turley: Close enough is not good enough. According to the rest of the panel, it is more than close enough.

Turley gives the Repubs all the cover they need. "See, constitutional experts don't agree." That's all they need. An additional observation is Turley is "full of himself" and smarmy. You can just smell the unfettered self-regard.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | December 4, 2019 4:44 PM |
I hate to get off subject here, but that guy sitting behind Turley has major cocksucking lips. Good Lord!

These testimonies seem odd to me. Most of the ones to the prior committee were fact based and the people testifying seemed legitimate and respectable. All three professors read persuasive opinion essays and are very opinionated with their responses to questions. Yes, I realize they are there as experts to offer expert opinion and so it has to be this way. But they all seem a little too full of personality and too pleased with themselves. As I watch it, I imagine being a Fox News viewer and seething at these smug liberal lefty anti-Trumpers. I feel like their eagerness is certain to backfire.

If not, then it’s just sane, aware Democrats putting on a futile show for themselves, to prove themselves right to themselves and to defeat themselves by being self-insulated. Fuck. We’re going to lose the country. It is destined to happen because we are already two nations of people that absolutely will not make any attempt to relate to one another.

The FOX audience watches FOX specifically to be lied to. It's American PRAVDA. They got rid of Smith because he was "too liberal" for them and they want Chris Wallace gone, too.
And stop acting as though they're some huge audience because they're not. You want Dems to bend over backwards for a few, awful people who don't deserve to be coddled.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | December 4, 2019 5:34 PM |
The sad reality is that a Huge fucking share of the country watches Fox News. I live in DC, and everywhere I go around this area, CNN is playing on public televisions. My mother was in a hospital in Loudoun County, Virginia, which is purple but which recently has been voting blue, and Fox News was playing on every public waiting area TV there. My father is from NC, and Fox plays on every public television (bars, restaurants, etc.) there and all his relatives there get their news from it. To dismiss Fox’s audience, who vote, is really fucking foolish. Yes, they are programmed and made stupid and impressionable by their churchgoing habits. That does not mean everyone should give up on trying to talk sense into them. To do so is entirely self-defeating. Don’t be stupid because you recognize stupidity in others.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | December 4, 2019 5:39 PM |

Who Is Jonathan Turley? Republicans’ Lone Expert on Impeachment
by Anonymous | reply 136 | December 4, 2019 5:47 PM |
Why does Fox play EVERYWHERE? Any public place I go, it’s on. When I worked at a hotel, I’d switch the TV to CNN, but it always ended up back on Fox.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | December 4, 2019 5:48 PM |
R131 What's always ignored... add up CNN and MSNBC and other networks and Fox is far, far from the majority. That 39% Trump base (and I note that 30% of Americans really believe the world is flat, not round.)
by Anonymous | reply 138 | December 4, 2019 5:48 PM |
I want the whole truth! Who are those handsome lads sitting behind Gerhardt? His prize students? Interns like Monica? Or simply houseboys?
by Anonymous | reply 139 | December 4, 2019 5:50 PM |
^It's on so many televisions, R134 that people are being brainwashed without even knowing it. This invasion of our country did not start yesterday but has been planned for decades. Look at Sinclair Broadcasting and once they became large enough what the radio station/network were forcing reporters to do.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | December 4, 2019 5:50 PM |
Trying my hardest to look at this objectively. If nothing else, why can't we get Trump for obstruction? Between the shit he's said on Twitter and firing anyone who disagrees with him, he's toast. Or should be.
If I was a Republican watching these proceedings, I would probably become a Democrat. Just watching Schiff maintain his composure versus Nunes and Jordan act like babies and hurl insults speaks volumes of the state of the Republican party.
I saw very little, but that female professor was AWESOME. On the station I was watching, they made sure to show a graphic saying she is a Democrat. So what?
Side note. What district does Nunes represent and is it really red? I still find it amazing that any place in California can have Republican representatives(especially like Nunes) in this day and age.

NTY reports that Rudy is back in Ukraine this week, meeting with the same former prosecutors whose unsubstantiated claims about Joe Biden and his son helped set off the impeachment inquiry.
So Trump is still engaged in the underhanded tactics that have him facing impeachment in the first place.

I politely ask them to change the channel, or I leave. This is something we can all do. Granted, sometimes we don’t have a choice. We have no alternates. Still, think of your Dad, or Grandpa, in a ship or trench in the World Wars, or other ancestors, and their contributions to American freedom. It’s a small effort in comparison.

Fox has a way of inflaming anger and fear. It compels people to return to viewing. It’s addictive.
And it does matter that public places show these videos. My liberal friend moved to Texas, and it took 8 years, but he turned like a vampire to the prevailing viewpoint. “We have to do something” about government, he said. Not thinking that government is doing a damn good job, actually. Could do better, if only just like everybody.

R152, perhaps Rudy is there to find Trump’s “smoking gun” to exonerate him? He is certainly too mentally ill to be reigning, as he is.

Trump and Rudy are still playing this whole Ukraine game because they think it legitimizes it. "If I’m doing it right out in the open, it must be okay." It’s why he released the ‘transcript' and why Don Jr. released the text messages about the Russian meeting.
This has been a Trump tactic for ages. He used to go on national TV and brag about how The Apprentice was still the #1 show even though it was barely in the top twenty. He was just so flagrant about it, people believed the lie.

Ah, this is how Gym keeps being a wrestling coach-turned-politician. His district is rural redneck Buckabillies:
"Jordan currently represents Western Ohio's 4th Congressional District. The district has been redrawn over time to minimize urban area and increase the rural area; it is gerrymandered to avoid having Toledo, Columbus or Cleveland (or their respective suburbs) in the District which stretches from Lake Erie nearly to Dayton. A three-judge federal panel unanimously ruled in May 2019 that Ohio's congressional district map is unconstitutional due to partisan gerrymandering and ordered the state to create a new map in time for the 2020 Election. The issue remains unresolved and may not be addressed until after the 2020 Census"

Quoting sir Thomas Moore.....come on.
He should have been presented with a concise question containing only FACTS.
None of this matters to the trailer trash deplorabjes, but still

What if Bill Clinton had been removed from office? Then it would have been President Al Gore running against George W. Bush and it is much harder to run against a sitting President, a few more votes for Gore in Florida would have meant he wins. That would mean no Iraq war. No President Bush.
What if Pres Obama hasn't chosen Hillary for Sec of State.
That would mean she could have been sitting in the Senate pushing through Pres Obama's agenda, and could not have been blamed for Benghazi when she ran for President, even though nothing was really her fault there. No Benghazi might have gotten enough votes to win the Presidency.
Those to actions might have meant no President Shrub Bush and no Pres Trump and no Republican appointees to the Supreme Court. Four more liberals on the Supreme Court.

yeah I'm annoyed. There was nothing wrong with Karlan's comment because IT WAS NOT an attack on Barron. I agree though children should be off limits. One of the problems with the GOP has always been that they're terrible at being the opposition in government - probably because they're terrible at governance. Nunes is from a district where the residents identify themselves as
1) Azorean
2) Portuguese
3) Dairy Farmers
4) American
They don't identify as Azorean like American Irish do by celebrating St Patrick's Day once s year. They have been in this country for more than 100 years and know the names & addresses of every resident's relative in the Azores. Look up his district. There are a million articles about Devon Nunes out there giving his history & the history of his district. If you can find an Azorean democrat to run against him, he could be vulnerable. Otherwise, no.

Responding to a reporter who accused her motivations as hate for Trump, "I was raised as a Catholic, I was raised to love people, I pray for the President, I pray for him every day... but this is about the Constitution, about his failure to follow his oath of office. But don't ever use the word hate to talk about my motivations" Her glaring at the reporter melted his glasses.
I get annoyed with her speaking voice, it's halting cadence and she sounds like her dentures are slipping, but she has been an historic leader in this past year. She positions herself in just the right way to protect our democracy. History will be kind to her.

James Rosen Joins Sinclair as a Washington-Based Investigative Reporter/Jan. 2, 2019
James Rosen is returning to television news, joining Sinclair Broadcast Group as a Washington DC-based investigative reporter.
Rosen’s arrival at Sinclair comes slightly more than a year after he suddenly exited Fox News Channel.
NPR’s David Folkenflik had spoken with 8 of Rosen’s former colleagues at the time, who claim Rosen “had an established pattern of flirting aggressively with many peers and had made sexual advances toward three female Fox News journalists.”
These harassment claims were undoubtedly the reason for Rosen’s departure.
Employed by Fox News from 1999-2017, Rosen was most recently Fox News’ chief Washington correspondent, often reporting for Special Report, and across the Fox News daily programming slate.
In 2013, it was revealed the Obama Justice Department had been investigating Rosen in a leak probe. FNC executives at the time referred to the investigation “downright chilling.”
The Sinclair-Fox News link became a hot topic last year, when reports surfaced in May that the Baltimore-based broadcaster was preparing to challenge Fox News in the right-leaning national TV news sphere. That has yet to happen.
Sinclair had a rough 2018 in general. It lost out on Tribune, and garnered controversy for its must-run promo showing dozens of anchors at Sinclair-owned local stations around the country reading what appears to be the same, scripted anti-mainstream media message on-air.

by Anonymous | reply 409 | December 6, 2019 3:42 PM |
R409 Why? Because that's the reality? All Republican Senators have already stated they don't think the proposed charges merit impeachment. To the degree of a Sen Graham who said explicitly "I am not even going to read the evidence." Dem Senators who are candidates are more careful - Klobuchar's "well I am not going to comment on that, as I will be the 'jury' if impeachment charges are brought to the Senate." The definitions and applications of due process, in this political as opposed to judicial arena, will be pretty unique.

For 20 years we've been "thanking our troops" for fighting the longest war in our history, and a completely unnecessary, idiotic boondoggle which the Dems haven't called out enough, either, Since that has been "OK" with Congress why not our current high crimes and misdemeanors.

Aside from fighting terrorists in Afghanistan, the other even more compelling reason was its proximity to Russia and the clandestine Russian support the terrorists were getting because of the oil and gas in Afghanistan. We supported the Afghanis in the 70's when we helped them humiliate Russia and force then out of Afghanistan. WE are supporting Ukraine for similar reasons and if anyone doesn't understand the geopolitical importance of our support of Ukraine they are complete dolts. Our education system has failed us. Look,Pelosi is ore right than she may realize. But since she sat on the Intel committee back in the day, she'd know. All roads do lead to Russia, or in this case, to Putin. by Anonymous | reply 420 | December 7, 2019 1:39 PM |
The Democrats need to stress what Pelosi keeps repeating. It's about our Constitution. It's about the law. This is not "political." She regularly separates political issues that can be argued in a campaign, from the issues of violating the Law and violating the oath of office, and shitting on the Constitution. This is core to our democracy, and the foundation of our government. It is massive.
Calling on a foreign power to interfere in our elections is a massive violation. And the second part, which often gets overlooked, is that the President of the United States withheld funds already approved by Congress and assigned to the Defense Department. That's another violation of the separation of powers, even though Trump regularly fucks over Congress while McConnell and Ryan allowed it.
The fact that the funds were to be sent to an ally whose country was invaded, an ally in the middle of prosecuting a real shooting war in which people died, is the 3rd part, and if the Dems were smart they would link it to our betrayal of the Kurds who, last week were getting shelled by Turkey at Putin's behest. I'm telling you there is a real emotional connection between betrayal of the Kurds, and shitting on the Ukraine. It absolutely impacts Trump's approval ratings. At the very least the Democratic PResidential candidates ought to pound on it.

R421 The current Democrat: "It is a question of protecting the Constitution, checks and balances, the rule of law, the Presidential abuse of power."
The current Republican: "Of course he asked Ukraine for help, that's who he is. That's why we elected him - to be a strong man to break up the corruption of the elites in Washington. As President he has pretty much unlimited power (Wm. Barr's theories of the absolute power of the President."
It is a Constitutional crisis. Clearly. And it is also political - imagine if the authoritarian Presidency is allowed. Imagine if Bernie were elected and started to assert unlimited Presidential power to achieve his socialist vision. Republicans would suddenly have concerns about the President's unchecked power.
We're screwed.

Once the Articles of Impeachment are introduced to the committee they will be debated and discussed and voted on. They will then go to the floor for a full vote of the whole House. Trump would love to trap Pelosi here with a losing vote but Nancy would not call for a vote if she couldn't win it. Look for some attempt at mischief during this process. Once the Articles are voted on and pass, they will be delivered to the Senate for action. It's up McCOnnell, Graham, (Chair of Judiciary) and Chief Justice Roberts then.

There was no crime of bribery-No treason-There was no High crime or Misdemeanor. No constitutional trigger. There is & has been an implacable unrestrained hatred of @realDonaldTrump that allows House Dems to proceed w #Impeachment knowing there is Zero chance Senate will convict.
How sad for our country that the lofty language of our founding principles, like, "no man is above the law," have been perverted and hijacked by partisans who are hellbent on achieving a result: #Impeachment of @POTUS -with little apparent regard whether it is justified by law.
Today's counter narrative today will come from #InspectorGeneral @michaelhorowitz when he releases report on whether #FBI improperly spied on the Trump campaign & presidency. At very least, he'll report that an FBI attorney faked an affidavit to get a warrant to spy. #FISAabuse

R478, Barr, though, can't pull the same trick twice. Everyone now knows he is dishonest (and possibly insane). That's why news of the IG's conclusion leaked ahead of time, to preempt him from pulling another Mueller-type stunt.

Nadler was much tougher today, towards the end of the hearing. The Republicans were doing a lot of eye rolling. Nadler was t entertaining any interruptions.
I guess it can be really important to know what’s a parliamentary question or what’s a (whatever it was) and also know the right time that each can be entered.
I think at the end, Nadler was just saying “No” to everything and making them prove that they were acting correctly. Towards the end, he didn’t even allow unanimous consent on an article until his staff got a chance to review it.
by Anonymous | reply 537 | December 9, 2019 11:59 PM |
r534 I hate to burst your bubble but they will not come over. The current Republican party is tribal and totally corrupt at this point. Until Fox News starts breaking and convincing the Deplorables that Trump needs to go, nothing will happen. You can't view them from a "surely SOME of them must be moral!" because they are not. If they have an "R" next to their name in the past 15 years, they are not normal humans. They are sociopaths and amoral.
Look at the number of House Republicans leaving rather than stay in government. They don't want to be there unless they call the shots. That is their mindset.
The fact that Russia went from being enemy #1 to having 44% of the electorate thinking they're just great and an ally now should show you how the current Republican party is moving. They will do anything to stay in power. The way they are acting in the House - like spoiled, petulant brats - is because they have never handled being the minority party well, and they have no ability any longer to compromise.
They will do what Mitch McConnell decides, and he has chosen his path.
by Anonymous | reply 538 | December 10, 2019 12:10 AM |
R538, and Mitch may lose his seat next year, too.
I’ve been saying that this is a process. You take it one step at a time. People should dump their defeatist attitude and adopt a wait and see attitude. The Republicans are certainly afraid of something, so let’s just see how it unfolds. After all, the Dems have no choice. It is their duty to impeach this fraud. And even if Trump is not ousted next Spring, impeachment will be good for Dems running in the fall. It’s win-win, as long as they make a sincere effort.

I'm just happy that history will always list Trump among the impeached. I'd be ecstatic if he were also the first one removed from office, preferably frog-marched out.
by Anonymous | reply 540 | December 10, 2019 12:23 AM |
r539 there's a difference between being defeatist and in projecting morals and scruples on a party that has repeatedly, REPEATEDLY shown they have none, any longer. I'm being realistic. I fully support the impeachment trials, if nothing else to document in history how horrible this situation has gotten.
I do agree it's a process - no one knows how things will turn out. But I would not hope that Republicans will suddenly grow spines/care about the country.

In Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, Trump won by an average of six percentage points in hypothetical match-ups against all current Democratic candidates, including Joe Biden, who was performing well in head-to-head contests against Trump in polling conducted earlier in the year.
by Anonymous | reply 542 | December 10, 2019 12:30 AM |
R541 I'd say it in different ways, but I agree that the really critical problem in our country is not Trump.... it's the compete rejection of basic American values (e.g. respect for the law), denial of facts, 1984-like gaslighting - by the Republican party. It happened so quickly - I really can't explain it, other than there seemed (2016-7) to be an undercurrent of evil that Republicans just surrendered to... with glee. History may explain it, but I can't.

Steve Schmidt, former Republican, was on Chris Hayes’ show tonight. He said, what we’ve heard before, “if this doesn’t meet the standard for impeachment, what does?” I think we need to hear this again and again. It’s short-hand for a good argument. I am still shocked at how bad AG Barr is. He disagrees with the Inspector General's report because it doesn't meet his pre-determined outcome. I wouldn't be surprised if he had another Inspector General (Ken Starr, perhaps?) come in and look again until he gets the result he wanted.
He really seems to believe the shit he's spouting too, like at the Federalist Society dinner. They have no qualms anymore about just being corrupt out in the open, and when they're called on it, they just lie and say it's not.
r543 the undercurrent had been building for awhile, but once Trump got elected they were freed of the public restraints that had kept them under control, somewhat. Their 2018 losses should have been a big sign and a warning, but they chose not to heed that and instead, double down.
I was pissed when Obama didn't investigate the corruption under the Bush administration. I think the Republicans realized they could get away with it and Democrats weren't going to nail their balls to the wall the way they would if the tables were turned, because the Democrats actually care about the country and government, and the Republicans no longer do.

I expect nothing from the Republicans. They' re part of this corruption. Don't look at them as separate from Trump. The only thing separating them from Trump is style. They agree with him much of the time, they just don't like his coarseness.
Ever since our financial crisis in 2007-2008-2009, I am no longer shocked or expecting Republicans to put country first. We were staring into the abyss. Hundreds of thousands of people losing their jobs, and there was Mitch McConnell referring to Obama, on inauguration day, "My job is to see him fail."
We were literally in an existential crisis that had worldwide implications and there he was with that partisan bullshit, pandering to the most base, racist ideologically rigid instincts in the country. Personally I was baffled at Obama not really fully appreciating the evil he was dealing with.

The GOP is acting all cocky because they know it will never ever happen. I'd love to be proven wrong, but the realist in me harkens back to the day when Kavenaugh was voted in and how let down I felt because I let myself think there was a possibility someone would do the right thing. Trump is a fucking criminal to any normal, genuinely decent person who doesn't live their life by a fucking letter: "R" or "D". Trump supporters are garbage. They are garbage and go fuck yourself with the coddling of these vile people.

Amen r578, at this point in time, every vile piece of shit Republican needs to be publicly shamed for all of the stunts they are pulling so that history not only is recorded for what the asswipe in the Oval office, but also the spinelessness of the sycophants enabling him. I wish the mainstream media would get tough and now just shout "YOUR LYING" on air to the worthless (R) scumbags who are paving the way for this shitstain. The only way anything is going to change is if they feel a change in the air with public perception not being on their side.

I don't watch MSNBC much, but I did for about five minutes and heard Chris Matthews talking about Lindsey Graham and how he doesn't know why he's doing this and "everybody likes him" and I love Stephanie Ruehl for pushing back after that bullshit and saying "Well, you can't say everybody likes him" and Matthews was trying to backtrack. Matthews is sometimes fine, but really, he's just another tone deaf, old, white guy who doesn't comprehend that Graham's ideology is vile and hurts so many people who AREN'T Christ Matthews. His being nice at cocktail parties is not enough.

Chris Matthews, in a sense, is the lefts' version of Sean Hannity. In my opinion, once again it's the media that is trying to control the narrative. The media wants a "them vs us" narrative. FOX (and the rest of the conservative entertainment media) wants a "them vs us" mentality and narrative. If Democrats fall into this hole they will lose.

Vulnerable House Democrats seek Trump censure instead of impeachment
A small group of House Democrats fearful of their re-election prospects has revived the idea of censuring President Trump instead of impeaching him, according to a report out Tuesday.
The Democrats, all repping districts Trump won in 2016, met Monday afternoon to consider their options, no matter how slim, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had already put the kibosh on censure, Politico reported.
About 10 lawmakers, included Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.), Ben McAdams (D-Utah.) and upstate New York Rep. Anthony Brindisi.
A poll last week by GOP pollster John McLaughin Associates found that 54 percent of voters in Brindisi’s district opposed impeachment, while only 39 percent supported it.
“I think it’s certainly appropriate and might be a little more bipartisan, who knows,” Schrader said Tuesday when asked about censure.
But, he added, “Time’s slipping by” with Democrats announcing the two articles of impeachment against Trump Tuesday, and a full vote in the House took take place as early as next week.
“Right now, there’s no other options. This is another option,” said one lawmaker who attended Monday’s meeting.
Pelosi herself had already ruled out censure.
“I think censure is just a way out. If you want to go, you gotta go,” she told reporters in June.
“If the goods are there, you must impeach. Censure is nice, but it is not commensurate with the violations of the Constitution should we decide that’s the way to go.”
Some of the Dems have contacted centrist House Republicans in recent days to see whether they could be willing to censure Trump, the website reported. It’s not known what response they got, if any.

r584, If a Dem is given the vapors by a NY Post article, then they should be primaried.
The vote gives Nancy plenty of time to shift resources.

For the person above who wanted to delay, listen to Adam Schiff. He directly addresses the issue.

Oh, Lord, no. Hannity is a liar. Matthews is not, as far as I’ve ever been able to tell.

Thank you for the hearty laugh.
You should probably preemptively check yourself into a mental hospital a day or two before the election, just to prepare yourself for his almost inevitable victory, most likely because of this ridiculous impeachment.
If the House refuses to convict, because 19 Democrats in vulnerable districts decide to vote against it, then it becomes the first failed HoR impeachment inquiry in history, and an end to Pelosi’s leadership.

R590, these 19 Dems in vulnerable districts, they won in 2018, a year in which such wins were largely seen as a repudiation of Trump. Wouldn’t it mean more trouble for them if they vote to acquit? I think their constituents knew what they were doing when they elected Dems. That’s why 2018 was seen as such a disaster for Trump. The House will vote to convict, it’s really grasping at straws to think otherwise.

R591, I'm in one of those districts when I'm in PA, and, no, these people are not guaranteed a win. Conor Lamb is facing a tough challenge in 2020. The GOP ads against him for voting to support the impeachment inquiry have been relentless. He has had zero support from the DNC.

R592, I haven’t counted, but I can’t believe that such numbers are a threat to the resolution passing in the House.

I do too. It seems to me that those who support Trump are becoming hysterical--especially on social media.

I don’t support him, but I think the Democrats need to be more clear eyed about what is happening.
A failed impeachment in the Senate would have zero benefit for the Democrats but would piss off people that might have stayed home instead of voting for Trump.
A Senate trial would keep Warren, Sanders, and “Cliff bar” “close your bar” that bitch from the Midwest out. But a judge would have an advantage. Seriously. It’s spelled but a judge perfectly and then changed it to but a judge. Pete what is your age. Pete Buttigieg! Finally!

Impeachment will delineate Trump’s criminal activity. His cult will remain his cult, nothing will change that.
But impeachment will peal-off some of the independents who otherwise might have voted for him. Can you imagine an independent voting for him, having just learned that he used tax dollars to cheat in the election? They won’t like that, who would?
And a failed impeachment will energize the Dems. How many Dems will stay home when presented with an opportunity to vote against Trump? Especially if his crimes are laid-out, and the Senate doesn’t convict. I think a lot of those Republican Senators will lose their seats, for letting a criminal go unpunished.
Right now, the trial is scheduled for January only. It might hurt the Dem senators, but that’s the job. And it’s just a month.

You know, I can't stand this Fear bullshit. Seriously. I cannot get my brain wrapped around some dumb ass who is "scared" to vote to impeach a guilty scoundrel, or the Senators who claim to be afraid. If I had a dollar for every time some pundit or some Democratic Senator claimed "secretly they hate Trump...but..." I'd be rich. WTF.
The way you give the bullies power is to cave in to them. When you stand up en masse, as one, all together, you defeat them. I could not live my life cowering in fear. I just don't get it. I don't like Congressman Amash. He's running for re-election in Michigan. I'm going to support him. And we need to contact these timid souls and tell them they will get support if they do the right thing.
This is much bigger than one person's "fears." Fuck fear. Stand up. Because swear to God, I will run a fucking coward out of office where ever I can. Fear is no justification. Suppose you were a cop, but you didn't want to go out on patrol because you were scared? No one forced these fuckers to run for Congress. Well, this is your job. Doing what is right is part of your job. How can you justify your existence if you refuse to do the very thing you came here to do? Dumb assed fuckers.

Show those scared motherfuckers photos of people cowering in fear because of an active shooter. That's fear. Show them the pictures of the children, the 6 yr old babies sleeping on concrete floors in cages after being ripped out of their parents arms. That's fear. Those pigs don't know real fear. All they're worried about is keeping their prestige and their paycheck. I shit on their paycheck, and they can eat it with Ketchup. OK. I;m done.

This is a really powerful column. Seriously. Please read it, and the post it and spread it around to every site you can think of. Report the link and let's make it go viral. In fact I would fax this multiple times to every "timid" member of Congress, including the Republicans in the Senate who'd vote to remove him if it could be done in secret. I want to wall paper my family Christmas gathering with this.
