Better yet, R1!
This season needs to die.
It'll go down as the second worst season, right after Roanoake.

R2 this season has almost tripled its ratings from last year.
It’s their highest rated season since Coven.

Yes, it is up. Not on live viewing but with On Demand etc. it’s up.

I showed you the real data, if you are trying to prove this is the highest rated season since Coven (which isn't even the highest rated season, Freak Show is), I'm going to need see to see the data. Else youbarr just talking out of your ass.

The episodes ratings triple within 7 days. You all forget Young people don’t watch it as it airs much anymore. They catch up with it later.
Within 7 Days the episode ratings triple.
The shows ratings are up in its demographic.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 7, 2019 1:59 PM |
R11 is old. He doesn’t get that strictly numbers mean shit in 2019. It’s about how many people within a certain demographic are watching now. A show can have 10 million viewers, but if the majority of those viewers are old people and they are aiming for 18 year olds, it’s deemed a failure.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 7, 2019 2:01 PM |
Yes, people watch it after it airs. That's true for a lot of shows, and has always been true for AHS.
That link has absolutely nothing to do your claim that ratings are up compared to past seasons.

R19 that’s up to you. What does age have to do with anything? I know older people that like silly and campy shit. I also know young people (my sister) that can’t watch it. She gets annoyed.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 7, 2019 7:42 PM |
Bullshit, r13. Show biz will take 10 million people anywhere it can get them. And if the demographic you are aiming for are all 18-24 years old, and 10 viewers is up from 8 viewers last season, you still don't have a hit. It's still only 10 viewers!
The real data shows that AHS is a case of diminishing returns. And why wouldn't it be after 9 years? Whatever AHS accomplished is all off the backs of the '80s slashers it's namedropping but not fulfilling.

No, the stage rigging and banners from a concert 30 years ago would NOT be left up, no matter what sort of tragedy happened.
The rental company would take back all the equipment and the owners would clean up the mess / plastic banners.

The Ol' FARGO Woodchipper Kill, eh? Now I know the creators of this show were playing FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE GAME.
Besides all the other plagiarisms listed in all the other threads, FRIDAY: THE GAME features a FARGO-style woodchipper achievement called "The Showalter."
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 14, 2019 2:47 AM |
Oh, the poor people thread, glad I still get another post in. So I’m disappointed that the reveal wasn’t that Donna wasn’t the last girl, because she wasn’t really a girl. Why go through all the stunt casting of having a tranny actress and not using it as part of the storyline? It just comes across as cheating Adina Porter out of a part that seems should have been hers a regular. Can she sue for discrimination?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 14, 2019 3:14 AM |
I wonder if episode 9, before the season got reduced to 9 episodes, would have been about a rock concert massacre in 1989? Then we would have had the return of Jingles' son 30 years later in the final episode.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 14, 2019 3:42 AM |
Finn Wittrock made this episode the best of the season, and this finale the best of the series.
Hopefully the people creaming over the "great acting" of Billie Lourd and Emma Roberts now see how great this show can be when they cast real actors and don't focus on the stunt casting and unnecessary characters.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 14, 2019 3:58 AM |
The rock concert massacre was a missed opportunity.
The finale was good, actually much better than I expected. But it was a bit anti-climactic as I wanted to see a full-on massacre.

I can’t believe I made it through the entire laugh-free, scareproof season. I had to do it for Jason Voorhees!
Although I couldn’t find the story or characters interesting, Gus Kenworthy and Finn Wittrock were nice to look at.

I can’t believe people trash seasons like Hotel and Freak Show so much when garbage like this exists. At least Hotel and Freak Show did some interesting things and didn’t just replay the same thing again and again and again.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 14, 2019 11:03 AM |
Interesting how Cody Fern was just an extra in the finale
The season was not what I hoped for. I wanted much more of a traditional 80's slasher and more nudity, especially from Gus, but, overall I enjoyed it for what it was.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 14, 2019 11:58 AM |
Having Gus Kenworthy be in your show and not letting him take his pants off immediately earns this show the title of worst season of AHS. Same goes for the cute black guy. I know the puritanical nudity haters in these threads will be pissed off by this, but the gratuitous nudity is a huge part of what makes AHS so great. It panders to gay men in a good way.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 14, 2019 12:03 PM |
There should have been a brief scene of Chet fucking one of the other male ghosts.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 14, 2019 12:50 PM |
I hope Gus is in more Ryan Murphy projects. Not only should he be given the opportunity to constantly show skin, but it could open the door to getting him some acting classes and training him to become a somewhat decent actor. He could be a Marvel actor, I mean, if Marvel allowed gay actors.

I thought it was a pretty meh finale. I'm glad it's over.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | November 14, 2019 1:33 PM |
R52 There was a post here before the season began that said Fern was not well-liked by the crew this season. Add that to the fact he's did zero promotion for the show on social media an the way his character was whittled down to nothing after episode 5 or 6 and I'm beginning to think there was some truth to it. Or it's just a case of Murphy playing favorites. Fern had one line in the finale. You can't tell me that scene with Bertie and Chet and the mention of how he swings both ways wasn't meant for Bertie and Xavier.
I liked the finale because it took so much of the focus off the stuff that was dragging all season: Donna & Brooke's revenge/The festival massacre/Margaret's psychopathy. That the writers scrapped most of that and decided the finale would focus on a character we'd never met hints that even they knew the story wasn't working. I feel bad for Fern, though. They really screwed him this season.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | November 14, 2019 1:56 PM |

I feel like most Dataloungers understand that this is a crap franchise — especially considering how few of us post about it.
What I don't understand is how 129 supposedly professional TV critics could give this season a 91% approval rating on rottentomatoes.
Who are these people? Are TV critics just a bunch of basic bitches who are easily amused?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | November 14, 2019 5:51 PM |
Ryan Murphy did a wrap up interview and mentioned that Donna & Brooke's (actor) chemistry was one of his favorite things. Mine too. One of the saddest parts of the episode for me was that they didn't talk for 30 years after everything they went through. When Brooke was talking about her life and Donna said she wishes she could have been a part of it - that hit me.
The rest of the episode seemed as if the writers were over it and just wanted to wrap it all up.
But Billie's final line and the ending was total 80s cheese. Murphy said they wanted to do the opposite of what you thought, so Brooke became good and Bobby got a happy ending without a catch.
Ryan also said he always knew exactly how he wanted this season to end since he is close to Finn Wittrock and he loves John Caroll Lynch and Lily Rabe which is kind of sad for the actors who were in the rest of the season since at least two of them he brought in after the show started.
He dropped hints about Season 10. He said since it might be their last so he wanted to bring back fan favorites focusing on actors from the first three seasons: Murder House, Asylum and Coven since they really "built" the series. He added that the actors he had asked so far said yes.

Now THAT, I would watch.
I watched the first three episodes of this season, and then tuned out. It didn't hold my attention, whatsoever.
Murder House was my absolute favorite, and it's what got me hooked on AHS. If Season 10 even comes close to that, then I'm in.

It was a pretty dull season. You got to see really gory deaths (and for a split second Matthew Morrison's glorious ass), but since the deaths were not permanent for anyone killed within the campgrounds, it wasn't super interesting.
ASSORTED THOUGHTS:
I am grateful i will never have to see Matthew Morrison in that hideous wig with that hideous mustache ever again.
Even when Emma Roberts isn't playing bitchy, she's still bitchy--she just can't help herself.
Leslie Grossman actually looked pretty for the first time in her life in that Ivana Trump hairdo with the pretty silk knit jacket
I can't figure out why Cody Fern and Finn Wittrock agreed to do this since they had such nothing parts--they must REALLY feel they owe Ryan Murphy big time
After all the fuss about Gus Kenworthy on this board, I was amazed to see he is basically a vacuum on the screen--he's like the Eddie Fisher of the 21st century. He's not even that handsome with his Cro-Magnon features. I'd rather have a handsome guy with a decent body (like Cody Fern or Finn Wittrock) than him.
Angelica Ross is not only believable as a cis woman but she is a very good actor. I found she was much more memorable than almost anyone else in the show, and was equalled only by Billie Lourd (just for her incredible presence) and John Carroll Lynch and Lily Rabe (who are both superb actors).
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 15, 2019 12:17 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 70 | November 15, 2019 1:09 AM |
I didn't buy Brooke's reason for not telling Donna that she was alive. Seemed just like something to throw in for plot purposes.
Angelica was great. But I really hope Ryan gives her a role worthy of her talents.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 15, 2019 1:46 AM |
Which is incredibly lazy writing to justify them not making her AT ALL believeable as a 50-something woman r70.
I wonder if episode 9, before the season got reduced to 9 episodes, would have been about a rock concert massacre in 1989? Then we would have had the return of Jingles' son 30 years later in the final episode.
I had the same thought r46. I wonder if they cut the episode with the big concert massacre because they realized it was going to be expensive and time consuming and FX was just like do the season without it. It would make sense.
Chet bisexual reveal!
That was such a weird moment. Oh yeah, Chet is bisexual. It really makes no difference and has nothing to do with this scene since he is with a woman, but we are going to throw that line into the finale. And I will echo I can't believe we watched an entire season of Gus Kenworthy on AHS and never saw his butt. If you told me that before this season aired I never would have believed you.
Interesting how Cody Fern was just an extra in the finale
Yes, I definitely was thinking how Cody Fern's role was really minimized as the show went on. In the first few episodes he was a leading character.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | November 15, 2019 2:54 AM |

What? Wittrock was the star of the finale, that was a very generous gift for him to show up and get to close out the season. He did a great job though.
He dropped hints about Season 10. He said since it might be their last
Interesting for him to say this might be the end, I guess FX is not that eager to keep investing more money to this franchise.
I know in earlier interviews Ryan mentioned he felt the show could run 10 more seasons since they can keep changing the format, so it is obviously FX that is not game.

Remember when a gay porn producer showed up and there was this whole backstory of Cody Fern having been in gay porn? Then the producer died 5 seconds later and that entire thing turned out to be a pointless interlude that was never mentioned again the entire season?

They are currently contracted through season 10 r77, but FX has been very quick and eager to renew AHS in the past. For Ryan Murphy to acknowledge this might the end, something has changed.
You really have no idea what a working actor is, do you? You think these two guys can just turn down work at a whim?
It's incredibly silly since Cody Fern was a contracted series regular, and Wittrock got his own starring episode.
Both of these would be considered generous parts.

Finale was pretty meh. Not as good as I hoped but certainly not the worst season.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | November 15, 2019 3:34 AM |
R67 I think Fern's role was scaled back as filming progressed. I also think the episode order being cut back mid-filming was a sign the writers (or someone else BTS) knew things weren't working. I get the feeling there was some drama on set this season and everybody just wanted it over. No way I believe Murphy always knew how the season would end. He called in a ringer when he cast Wittrock. Episodes 6 through 8 were all about a music festival massacre and Brooke's vendetta, both of which were mostly scrapped in favor of a brand new character. This show is notorious for its mid-season twists, but this season felt like 3 different seasons in one.

Which I predicted @ r420 in Part Deux and @ r71 in Part Trois.
The more Murphy tries to contrive twists, the more predictable he becomes. I mean, the opposite of everything he set up — that all the characters are evil killers — is the first prediction people will guess!
What a cheap, gimmicky showman. When Margaret appears at the back of the cabin in the first episode under a hooded raincoat like the killer had, I thought: "There's no WAY Murphy would drop a real clue that obvious!" I gave him and the show too much credit ...

The first time they killed RR was a fun reference to the witches killing the Axeman in Coven. I also noticed the reference to Roanoke when the ghosts had the cabin surrounded with torches and Birdie as The Butcher. I’d have to re-watch to see if all the past seasons were somehow winked to.

Great, Season 10 will be a bunch of cameos. Sounds like it will be a "curtain call" season where all 8-10 episodes will pack in a bunch of unnecessary characters and WTF moments. Story be damned. I imagine we'll have Pepper, Adam Levine, Lady GaGa and Zachary Quinto popping up to bid the show farewell.

If they were going to rip off an 80’s horror movie and basically steal from the franchise for the plot of the show, I wish they’d picked a different franchise than Friday The 13th. I know it has a lot of fans, but it’s the most boring horror movie franchise I’ve ever seen. Just the same movie over and over again: kids go to the summer camp, kids fuck, kids get killed. They should’ve ripped off the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise. Not only would that have forced the writing to be more interesting, it would have been more appealing visually and had way more creative gory deaths.

Why didn't ORIGINAL NURSE RITA RETURN?! >:-( Dreama Walker is so adorbz
I loved this season at the start for being campy goodness. But then, again, it went into nonsense territory. I am still hung up on it being called 1984, then it morphed into... "the 80s." Or even more generally, summer camp. It should have stuck with its tight 1980s theme. I will say I really enjoyed Emma Roberts for once.

Unthinkable! it ended with nary a gratuitous gay sex scenes of any of the male leads.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | November 15, 2019 3:23 PM |
Here's that interview I referenced above about the season.
Above the ending we got:
John says that when I pitch American Horror Story to him, I don’t know the ending. But I knew that was where we wanted to go to, that very ending. It’s the only American Horror Story ending that has made me cry. Something about that father-son thing always kills me. I’m very nostalgic about Lily Rabe, seeing her in that part. I was really close to her mom, Jill Clayburgh, which is how Lily was introduced into my life. I’m also very close to Finn, and I always wanted to write a beefy, big part for John Carroll Lynch. It was a murderer’s row of talent that I was really close with and loved. Yeah, I loved it.
Above Season 10:
We’re working on an idea for season 10 that I think people will love because it’s about reuniting fan-favorite actors to come back — because it might be our last season. It’s the last season we have contracted. So, I’ve been quietly reaching out to various people. Some people I haven’t reached out to yet because I was like ‘Do I have a role for them?’ So far, everybody I reached out to said ‘Yes’, so that’s been great.
And his answer to this question
[bold]So, Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters — will they be back?[/bold]
Too soon to tell, but I’ll just sort of say, the people who helped build this show into what it is, who believed in it from the beginning, have been contacted and are interested. So if you look at the iconography of the first three seasons, you can figure who I’ve gone to and who might be coming back.
Which makes sense because at that point we pretty much had the recurring cast of most of the other seasons that followed Season 3.
I'm sure he'll get Adina Porter (although she was briefly in S1), Finn Wittrock and Angejlica Ross back plus Gaga if she has time.

For Heaven's sake Nurse Rita was killed somewhere else so Nurse Rita 2 could use her car to get to the camp. Pay attention!
by Anonymous | reply 96 | November 15, 2019 4:56 PM |
Nope r96. Nurse Rita was killed at Camp Redwood.
Donna did not kill Rita. She just gave her a drug to knock her out and was holding her hostage.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | November 15, 2019 5:54 PM |
R97 is correct. Jingles killed Rita.

Maybe to be talking more seriously Gus refused to get nude? Probably not but I dont know why else they didnt have him drop trou. For a slasher season there was a real lack of sex.

*taken more seriously

I think the problem is R99, that "AHS: Hotel" set the bar pretty high since pretty much every male actor on the show was nude.
The truth is, the show hasn't gone that far in years. There most certainly wasn't that much in Roanoke or Apocalypse.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | November 15, 2019 6:26 PM |
R101 yeah Hotel was visually pleasing aside from the usual messy storytelling.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | November 15, 2019 6:29 PM |
r91 hasn't seen the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise.
But AHS probably chose it for the same reason the creators of FRIDAY THE 13TH chose it: the setting and formula is cheap to produce.
ELM STREET was a greater artistic achievement, but that costs a lot more in script development, special and visual effects. Besides, FRIDAY THE 13TH was the most successful and famous '80s slasher franchise.
P.S. Several ELM STREET films are dog turds.

Apocalypse made sure to show off Evan Peters butt for us again r102.
There was like a blink and you miss it shot of Matt Morrison's butt, incredibly little nudity from the male cast.
Odd because you have Gus Kenworthy who loves getting naked for free on his instagram.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | November 15, 2019 7:36 PM |
Hotel needed all that male nudity to make up for having to look at Lady Fuckface's ugly mug.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | November 15, 2019 7:59 PM |
Nurse Rita was killed at Camp Redwood... Donna did not kill Rita. She just gave her a drug to knock her out and was holding her hostage.
The scene of the ghosts holding knives and weapons towards the finale reminded me of that scene in Freak Show where the freaks got together and killed someone in the first few episodes. I can't remember all the details.

[R90] Kajagoogoo showed up outside the bus rehearsing right after whosawhatsit exited.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | November 16, 2019 4:16 AM |
I wonder if the lack of nudity this season, was due to the Kevin Spacey, Harvey Weinstein, and #metoo stuff that happened in the past few years.
Maybe they're scared of getting sued or accused of sexual assault/harassment.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | November 16, 2019 4:19 AM |
R109 then there would've been zero, right? But Matt Morrison got nude in episode 1
by Anonymous | reply 110 | November 16, 2019 11:36 AM |
R109, He's been using an intimacy coordinator on his tv shows and movie projects for years as far back as The Normal Heart and as recently as Pose.
Also because of SAG/AFTRA rules the actors agree to nudity and the conditions surrounding it long before they set foot on set.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | November 16, 2019 12:34 PM |
I'm glad that next season will be the last. It's been a mostly great run, but it can't go on any longer. Pose also needs to end after one more season. That way he makes a clean cut from FX.
I hope he brings back Zachary Quinto, who's the most under-appreciated cast member in the show's history.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | November 16, 2019 4:39 PM |
R112 he still has Crime story which is only about to film its 3rd season and has a lot of true crimes it could cover.

An article just came out stating that Murphy and John Landgraf have discussed as many as 20 seasons.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | November 16, 2019 5:00 PM |
TheWrap trashes the entire season. Hilarious read.
Those reviews on rottentomatoes were set after the first episodes. I wonder how many of them took into account all 9 episodes like this:
by Anonymous | reply 115 | November 16, 2019 5:01 PM |
R115 I wondered about the hitchhiker ghost Jonas dying off the camp property and coming back as a ghost.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | November 17, 2019 5:24 PM |
Loved the issue mentioned in the article from R114 that "Finn Wittrock should have known better." (To even be in this show.)
The comments, however, highlight a problem. The show did well enough and people seem to like it anyway so they have zero reason to ever try and do better than they have.
I hope he brings back Zachary Quinto, who's the most under-appreciated cast member in the show's history.
He was one of the cast members that said that they didn't want to do American Horror Story anymore after his last season on it and to his credit he has never returned.
There were quite a few actors that said they would work for Ryan Murphy again but just not on that particular show.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | November 17, 2019 6:11 PM |
When it was announced that Lange was coming back for Apocalypse and taking place in Murder House I asked Quinto if he was going back. He said no, but didn't specify if he didn't want to return or he just wasn't asked,
by Anonymous | reply 118 | November 17, 2019 6:27 PM |
Quinto should come back for the last season, regardless of how bad it is. He needs the work.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | November 17, 2019 11:15 PM |
I know Ryan Murphy is trying to play it off like the ending was always going to involve Finn/Bobby Richter but I don't buy it. At this point, Finn Wittrock is above doing a one episode stint on AHS. He was called in as a ringer because they saw the season was a mess and needed a new ending.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | November 18, 2019 2:55 AM |
I mean we know an episode was scrapped while they were making the season. There was definitely a different climax planned that never happened.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | November 18, 2019 3:00 AM |
More than half of this season feels like a complete revision and a swing for the fence. Ryan Murphy can’t write a cohesive story. Character traits and motivations change each episode.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | November 18, 2019 10:21 AM |
The fact that the most popular fan theory about the big “twist” was all of it being a movie set due to how horrible the production value and plot and acting were says a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | November 18, 2019 10:34 AM |
What is r119 talking about?
Zachary Quinto is busy playing the lead in his iwn Nosferatu series.. I’m sure he’s too busy to fart around in Ryan Murphy dreck for bit parts.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | November 18, 2019 4:58 PM |
Nosferatu SUCKS.
Christmasland is LAME.
Zach should be honored to get a role on AHS.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | November 18, 2019 6:10 PM |
Pretty much everyone in Hollywood is shocked that Nos4atu got a second season.
There's some #metoo shit going on behind the scenes. Because season one SUCKED DONKEY BALLS.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | November 18, 2019 6:11 PM |
I thought NOS4A2 was a complete mess, I have no idea how it gained such critical acclaim.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | November 18, 2019 6:51 PM |
Quinto's show did NOT get critical acclaim r127.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | November 18, 2019 8:37 PM |
The only people “shocked” by Nos4atu were the twats yammering on this thread about how Quinto needs work because they were totally ignorant of Quinto’s current work. So they rushed to search what I was talking about, then pretended to know all along.
NICE TRY, LOSERS.
“Honored” by a shitshow like AHS?!
LOL Try again.

Seriously. I'm not sure working for Ryan Murphy is as prestigious as it used to be. In fact, it almost seems like working for Murphy is a career setback since so many of his star's careers seem to stall after working for him.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | November 19, 2019 12:19 AM |
I did enjoy the use of Mike & The Mechanics “The Living Years” in the end of the finale episode. Nice touch.

Finn is an actor. Actors know how hard it is to get work and they also know how easy it is to stop getting work. So...you take work if its given to you...especially at his level. Its a paycheck.
So...you take work if its given to you...especially at his level. Its a paycheck.
He's pretty well booked and just finished another Ryan Murphy series earlier in the year.
It's obvious that Murphy's "innermost" circle is also comprised of actors that show up when he calls even if they don't need the work at the moment which also probably leads to him giving them more opportunities.
He won't forget that Gabourey Sidibe was more than willing to do guest appearances even when she was appearing on a top rated TV series.

Unless your name is Jessica Lange.
Then you show up when you feel like it. IF you feel like it.

r131 = The Basic Bitch demographic Murphy is after.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | November 20, 2019 7:23 AM |
Ryan Murphy's casting is all about affirmative action for open gays, pretty boys, queers, fatties, freaks and geeks who don't have many other places to work.
I appreciate his efforts, but it IS affirmative action that most people don't want to watch. So a lot of these actors are beggars who can't be choosers.
But some of his actors are in another league -- like Sarandon, Bates, Lange and Quinto. They CAN afford to be pickier because they have other work and know better about quality than Murphy does. And Murphy and his AHS fans mustn't feel entitled to them.
If you want to see a good show, watch Lange in HORACE AND PETE. Steal a pirated copy if you don't like supporting Louis C.K. in light of #MeToo. But it's a damn good show.

Although I still found it entertaining, overall I thought this whole season was a mess. So many plot points raised but went nowhere. What was the point of the whole Satan stuff if they didn't go balls deep with it? There were way too many flashbacks and time jumps for my liking too, it gave it too much of a fragmented feel. There was no real plot other than people killing each other and coming back as ghosts for some reason.
I wonder if we will ever get an explanation as to why certain places in the AHS universe cause people killed there to come back as ghosts, or whether they don't even know themselves and it's all just a contrivance.

It’s too risky to go deep into that. Ghosts are okay because they aren’t real.

As much as I liked Breaking Bad's musical choice for their last scene, I disliked 1984's use of In the Living Years. Always hated that song.
Good season.
