R13 All the seasons since Asylum have been campy (remember Lange singing Life On Mars in the 1940’s and Evan Peters singing Nirvana as a carnie?), but they had great humor and gratuitous male nudity to fall back on and make camp work. This season hasn’t been funny yet and so far the closest we’ve gotten to male nudity is 3 seconds of Matthew Morrison’s ass in the dark. This isn’t camp, this is empty. Apocalypse sucked but it least it did camp well.

I'm liking it so far; it's probably the best opening of the show since Hotel. It's fairly linear and not dumping too much in. I tuned in because of the 80s theme and don't get what everyone's damage is for Ryan Murphy blatantly ripping off old movies. I mean... it's patently obvious that would be the theme.

It's also refreshing to not have Lispy, Evan Peters, etc. Though I am sure they will appear later. They really need to Netflix this show and film it in one go rather than allow horrible fan input to change the course of the latter half.

Angelica Ross is GREAT and she is probably the best Murphy gem to come from his casting pool. I actually like Emma Roberts playing against trope here (and I loved her as Madison and Chanel in Scream Queens - hated all her other bits). Matthew Morrison is also killing it. The rest of the cast is ok.

Naturally I'll begin to HATE IT about 4 episodes in, but that's par for the course and why I gave up in Cult ("Hi guys! I'm in the cult too! Acting like this is all in Lispy's head was pointless!" - Alison Pill in like, 3rd epsiode reveal) and didn't watch the following seasons. This is why I'm not going to try and predict some great master plan to all of this because I know it will just change on a whim, like every AHS (and the DUMB ending of Scream Queens).

Margaret didn't survive the massacre because she wasn't there, she cut off her own ear.

Anybody was saw ACS Versace and AHS knows Fern can cry on cue. No saline tears.T Though I thought it odd that one second Fern's face is dry and a nanosecond later he had snot running down his face and his cheeks are streaked with tears.

Gus's perky cakes were on display beneath tighty whities when the guys were stripping for the shower. You also got his right leg.

Hopefully, he'll strip some more in the future before he gets whacked.

The slashers this is based on had entries of great quality, r123. They were effectively scary. HALLOWEENs 1 & 2 plus the first, few Jason movies were very well-made thrillers.

They weren't trying to win awards, nor should they have to. And I admit their attempts at humor were as lame as AHS: 1984 (that's one way AHS is true to the slasher legacy. I doubt it's on purpose).

But the original slashers were trying to scare the shit out of you and your friends. Part of what made them so scary was they were plausible and realistic. Jason and Myers were not monsters, ghosts or anything magic. They were human psychos that actually occur in real life; that any of us could fall victim to at any time.

*EXCEPTION* NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET did both humor and magic well. But A.H.S. isn't channeling that series.

I'm a big slasher fan, but I can only see this getting worse.

I do think people have forgotten that some of the earlier slasher movies were both decently made and actually scary/suspenseful. Even before Halloween, you had movies like Black Christmas that were very effective. I think most people associate slashers with the campiness of the later Friday the 13th sequels where everyone had big hear, wore goofy clothes, and acted like a cardboard stereotype. They forget that the early slasher films were pretty serious and even sorta grim at times with a few characters to actually root for. They'd be more in line with tone of the Asylum season than anything else. I'd like to see someone attempt a non-cheeky or campy slasher again.

THE BOY is a great horror flick you didn’t expect to be a slasher. It’s the most successful cross between a Gothic, haunted house and slasher I’ve ever seen.

Just because Fern is in the main cast doesn't mean he films every day. Not to mention, it's Rosh Hashannah. They could have taken a break from filming for the holiday since most of the main cast is Jewish.

The scenes with everyone finding the bodies and running from the killers is something you'd expect to see towards the end of the season. I wonder how they're going to pad out the last 8 episodes.

Why are they trying to age her when like someone said, Grossman is pushing 50. Did she just get a ton of work done on her face?

If it's a summer camp for teens then Leslie's character should be in her late twenties or early 30's after 14 years have passed.

I'm pretty sure Miss Robichaux's does not accept students past their twenties. Are we supposed to believe that Coco is late teens to early twenties?

All the counselors coming across bodies is a common First Act plot point in a lot of slashers. Everybody has to know there’s a threat if they’re going to fight back or solve a mystery.

Granted, the slashers this is based on have entries where the victims find out one-at-a-time that there’s a murderer loose,. By then it’s too late to tell anyone. But they have some where the crisis is identified by everybody in the first half hour or so. There are two, different killers in AHS and Margaret is accomplicing one. There’s plenty they can still do. Apparently, AHS likes to add whackadoodle plot twists, too.

The only weird thing that I picked up on this episode was that Jingles didn't kill the chubby guy dressed as him. R198, It doesn't really indicate much. Appearing in the opening credits just means that the actor had a contract negotiated prior to the season starting. Some actors that weren't in them still lived the entire season, some actors that were, bit it a few episodes in.

Frances Conroy was in most of Apocalypse but wasn't in the opening credits. Adina Porter wasn't in them in Roanoke but she was in nearly all of the episodes and survived until she sacrificed herself at the end. Wes Bentley was in them in that same season but only appeared in three episodes. However in the first two cases Adina and Frances weren't originally contracted for as many episodes as they actually appeared in since they sometimes make up the seasons as they go along.

I hated "Cult" r217, it was trying to some intelligent psychological thriller and just completely fell short of that goal. I stopped watching which was a first to not finish an AHS season.

Worked with two people (one crew from Apocalypse, one featured from this current season 1984) and they both had similar complaints.

Crew guy jumped from a different production, excited to finally work for Ryan Murphy on AHS. More often than not, they were screwed out of not being fed (on time if not at all) which yes, if you are in this business, incurs meal penalties. I know some of you are probably thinking they're bitching about nothing, but when you are already overworked/doing all the heavy lifting in addition to being fucking hungry, this certainly isn't helping everything run smoothly.

He said choosing to work on that was a huge mistake but at least now he knows. That was one of the bigger issues, there certainly were more than that but more so with individual departments where the above regarding meal violations affects everyone involved.

Guess I should point out crew guy also entered after the 1st episode was shot, so he was essentially replacing someone who had left.

I don't have as much information on the featured person since everything is understandably confidential but there too was a lack of food on their shooting days, and they're still trying to work out the money that was not on their check that was agreed upon (they were upgraded so this isn't agent-related by any means).

I am liking Matthew Morrison, but wonder how Cheyenne Jackson would have done in his role...

Montana wasn't sent to fat camp as a child. She was actually sent to some Christian camp where Margaret was employed as a counselor. Margaret along with others at the camp abused Montana and other children. Montana grows up and hooks up with Ramirez and they are involved in a Satanic cult. This is true. I'd add that networks are self-censoring on cable, including FX. They set their own standards for their own shows based upon time of day. FX will have swearing and show rear nudity. They don't go for "frontal" nudity and if there's a chance you'll see a cock sock (or even pubes although occasionally that slips through in a frame) they will ask the creators of the series to blur it.

They have shown frontal nudity on FX+, however. When the show aired (Atlanta) on FX the penises in a frat hazing scene were blurred out. On FX+ they were not.

I won't chide people who expect nudity on this season and haven't seen it because YES this show usually has some "nudity" in it and it has become a part of the show that has often been written about and discussed by news outlets. The FCC does not regulate cable. Cable companies decide what they think is appropriate content, it is a tough battle for them to decide what won't cause controversy and made advertisers nervous.

(SyFy's "The Magicians" for years had two versions of the show. One with swearing and one without depending on the time the show re-airs on the network.)

And like you said, yes. Premium Cable doesn't have to worry about advertisers because they charge a fee to even get the service. However, for years they still worried about time of day. Hell even HBO had Kids Programming during the day for years. Cinemax would never air "After Dark" softcore porn (back when that was a thing) during the day.

Streaming Services (although some are ad supported) throw a lot of that convention out because you can watch anything at any time. Netflix doesn't have advertisements but Hulu does (unless you pay extra.) FX+ has aired frontal male nudity because you had to pay a fee to get it, there's no ads outside of their own network's ads, have a login to the service (which you can't technically get if you're under 18 on your own), and choose to watch it at the time you wanted to.

Advertisers will pull out if cable started pulling that shit.

So no, the FCC does not regulate decency on cable. It can regulate rates, licenses etc but not what is shown on the channels. Again the reason is NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC, PBS, and various other channels are free over the air and therefore governed by the FCC. Cable basic or otherwise is a service that you have to PAY FOR to be in your house. It is not free over the airwaves so it is not governed by FCC standards. Most cable networks self govern due to advertising. They compete for the same ads ad the broadcast networks so they have to have similar standards. This is true of the radio as well. Howard Stern was constantly being fined by the FCC. Once he moved to satillite he was no longer governed by the FCC because you had to PAY to get in your home or car. HBO could show hardcore porn but would probably lose subscribers. CInemax used to be called Skinamax because they played soft core porn at night.

I thought they'd jumped the shark by episode 2, but this week's episode was surprisingly gripping. I actually liked the frat boy flashback. It reminded me of a lot of 80's slashers where a frat or sorority have a prank that goes wrong and they have to cover it up. I hope this ends up going somewhere interesting, but knowing Murphy and co.'s love of thinking on the fly, it probably won't.

My question is: why would actors sign on for an incomplete season? It seems like Murphy gives them a pilot script and a few loose ideas about what will happen to their character for the rest of the season and they just trust him. What if their character ends up doing something they don't want to do and they want to get the hell out of dodge?

R346 I looked through IMDB pages for a few upcoming episodes and based on the descriptions it seems there will be a later storyline involving the camp's history. I know IMDB isn't always accurrate, but I'm guessing there will be other storylines somehow tied to the slasher part. Since Ryan Murphy wants to tie the seasons together, my theory is he'll this season to the Murder House or the Hotel with the ghosts.

LA-area ghosts are about as tired as LA queens.

Probably because it's still the same night before the kids get there. Even though it's been 3 episodes, they have only been at the camp for hours.

I really can't even come up with any theories at this point, because I strongly suspect the rug is about to be pulled from under everything. I don't think the 'reveals' so far have been particularly surprising so I am waiting for that big twist moment to come.

for FX - it is second to last of top 25 performers on the netwok bested by Feud and Nip Tuck.

The episode from last week more than doubled its initial rating in the "live +3" ratings. It jumpd from a 0.7 to a 1.6., landing it in second place among all cable shows (bested only by the NFL's Monday Night Football). Sounds pretty good to me.

Word of mouth on the show is excellent. I think the ratings will stay solid.

What happened to Jingles? Did he survive the gunshots? There was't that much blood on the floor, so he might have. I don't think Margaret is a very good shot.

It's possible Jingles is a ghost, that was left open ended. But the body was gone, if he died on the floor his body would still be there. I guess you can argue he walked away to die somewhere else.

So Rameriz was resurrected by Satan, can't be the anti-christ he got run over before he could eat the heart of a virgin so he must have some special connection to da devil. Not just crazy but supernatural. Maybe an Asylum connection?

AHS is getting the '80s wrong in a lot of ways. Regular people didn't dress this cartoonishly. Guys didn't call each other "bro," they said "man" or "dude." And there was no fist bumping -- there were high-fives and soul slaps.

They are ghosts. Have you seen other seasons of AHS r471? Murder House was all about ghosts and in Hotel they were also a big focus.

Satan brought Mr. Jingles back to life, and presumably Richard Ramirez--they are the only two who can leave the grounds of Camp Redwood. They are ghosts.

The others are all ghosts too, but they cannot leave the grounds of Camp Redwood. They don't seem to have been rendered ghosts by Satan necessarily the way Mr. Jingles was--the place seems to be cursed. If you're killed there you can be brought back to life, and Montana and Xavier are killing other sightseers and tourists who wander onto the grounds.

Nope r474. Ramirez and Jingles aren't ghosts, that's why they can leave Redwood. They were brought back to life.

The others are ghost, that is why they are stuck where they died. That is normal AHS ghost rules, ghosts can only travel on halloween.

Cody Fern became really sexy when the show moved ahead in time five years. He has a nice toned body, which is very fitting for the era, and his dick flops around nicely in his little short shorts.
