Rumor, from those in the know, is Nancy has knowledge of something Pres Bone Spurs did before the Mueller report came out and this is why she was not for impeachment then. I don't know of any details at the moment. My conversation with my friend was very brief and she actually called to chat about something personal.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 5, 2019 11:03 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 6, 2019 12:24 AM |
Well, the day after the Mueller report came out is the day Trump had his threatening phone call with Zelensky. "I want you to do me a favor, though..." So maybe Nancy found out about it. Because it appears that a lot of people were really horrified by that call. People who witnessed it. And the Whistle Blower consulted people before he went public. So maybe that's what FCI's friend was referring to.

Fuck them both. Now we need to look at Georgia, and that rotten fucker, Governor Kemp who has his nose all the way up Trump's ass. Trump is coming to Georgia Friday I think to announce Blacks for Trump. How fucking offensive is that?
Anyway, we have two Senate seats. Johnny Isakson hates Trump, but he has Parkinson's and he's retiring. Purdue is a piece of shit. he is a rabid Trump supporter. up for re-election. We have to defeat him. We need to fill Isakson's seat with a Democrat. And the rotten, homophobic racist bitch, Karen Handel who was unseated by Lucy McBath is running to take her seat back. We need to support McBath and crush Handel. So there's a huge amount of work to be done.

Fucking Trump is still gloating and Fox and other commentators claim Trump helped Republicans win big in Kentucky. WTF? Are the AG, Secretary of State etc. suddenly more important than the Governor? What kind of alternate universe do they all still live in?
Also how weird was it that Fox did not cover the elections last night? Absolutely no mention on Hannity or even the screen. Eric Trump and Hannity were discussing the Bidens again for an hour. Did not watch Ingraham but it looked like they only announced the results and did not really cover it there either. Did Fox decide not to cover it after it was clear the Democrat would win or what was this all about?

No, I think he is already touting the "big win" in Kentucky. The Republicans hold all the statewide seats except for the Governor. So he will blame Bevins.
But it is interesting to note that the county where Trump held his rally with #MoscowMitch and Bevins, Fayette county, went for the Democrats by two to one. I think the % of Democrats was in the 60's and Bevins was in the 30's. Hunny the Trump hate is out there. And more important, Bevins lost on "kitchen table" issues. Healthcare. The Rethugs need to be careful what they wish for. They insisted on having Hillary testify for 11 punitive hours about Benghazi. That didn't work out so well for them. Gowdy came off looking really bad. All they want is visuals. They want video, carefully edited, and photos they can use in ads and plaster on social media with the smears and lies they peddle. Just like with Ukraine, Trump and Rudy didn't really want a full blown investigation into Biden, they just wanted Zelensky to announce an investigation.

Those kitchen table issues are THE thing people are voting on. Especially women.
Healthcare, education, prescription drug prices, keeping their kids safe are the major issues to this voting block. Democrats need to pound this HARD - the GOP celebration after they voted to repeal the ACA and strip healthcare from millions, the continued refusal of turtle to bring any of the House bills to improve the ACA, fix the infrastructure, lower drug prices, background checks for guns, etc. The Senate is a "do nothing" body thanks to turtle.

The Senate repubs want to use the Bidens as a distraction. Since they control the Senate, they can spend more time on the Bidens and make it seem worse or at least "just as bad" as what Trump has done. They can control the narrative on their end, giving the excuse why Trump should not be removed. Their goal is to sink Biden's candidacy while saving Trump.
The question is whether the public will fall for it. I mean Trump is going to be impeached that's no longer a question. How much of the public will understand what the repubs are trying to do is what matters.
Fox is already "reporting" more "bombshells" about Hunter Biden saying he tried getting the Obama administration to meet with Burisma. The Biden stuff is not going to go away. I'm afraid the public will treat Biden like Hillary in 2016 leading to less people coming out. I'd like to think people have smartened up by now but who the fuck knows. We have to remember most people don't consume news as much as we on DL do so it's easier to play these tricks on them.
I hope the mainstream media is ready to combat this but you just know asshole NYT will dig deep into any further allegations against Hunter and Joe

Stivers said his staff believes that might apply in this case. The last "contested" governors race was in 1899, the Courier Journal reports.

But they are ultimately the stupid ones. Because those people don't go away. They don't disappear. They are out here. And eventually a lot of them figure it out. They see themselves working 3 jobs, can't afford healthcare, and their kids can't read. They go to fucking Walmart and watch their neighbors get gunned down at the Mall. They can't go to church or to the movies or to school and feel safe anymore. Their drinking water is filled with lead and other contaminates, and they can barely afford housing. Our living standards here in the good old USA are going down the toilet. Inside Trump's White House: The Real Story of His Presidency, an upcoming book by Trump apologist Doug Wead, claims that the Obama administration drew complaints from top CIA officials for holding weekly "political correctness" meetings. Wead trashes Obama for being "too concerned with political correctness."
The problem: the author misinterpreted the "PC meetings" intelligence officials were grousing about. PC actually refers to the National Security Council Principals Committee.

Yes, it's about kitchen table issues, esp. healthcare. But it's more than that.
What hurt Bevin in gerrymandered, voter suppressed KY, were the suburbs of Cincinnati. The Republican lost across the board in the suburbs - in VA and other places as well. Those areas are not voter-suppressed b/c they are Republican, where a voter walks in and votes in 15 minutes. It's not like where I live - a Prussian blue sliver of true blue Broward Cty. There we always have to wait an hour at least to vote.

“A Warning,” reportedly written by an unnamed senior White House official, claims that high-level White House aides were certain that Vice President Mike Pence would support the use of the 25th Amendment to have President Donald Trump removed from office because of mental incapacity.
The discussions about invoking the 25th Amendment took place soon after FBI Director James Comey was fired by the president. The controversy around the firing, which the president did not appear to anticipate, and Mueller’s appointment infuriated Trump, and aides described his behavior at the time to HuffPost and other news publications as “unhinged.”
by Anonymous | reply 147 | November 7, 2019 11:34 AM |
Republican Members of Congress know that it is not OK for a President to intentionally withhold bipartisan-approved security aid to our threatened Ukrainian allies.
They know it is doubly not OK to refuse to release the aid unless the foreign country manufactures dirt the presidents’s opponents and publicizes it on their national TV.
Yet they are tying themselves in knots to distract (attack the truth-telling whistleblower); lie (“no one’s shown a quid pro quo”); or be willfully blind (“I’m not going to read the testimony”).
There is SOMETHING that frightens them more than the trashing of their own reputations, their personal integrity, and their place in history.
Many suspect Trump is Putin’s bitch because Putin has something that will destroy Trump if he strays.
But the bigger question is:
Who has What on the Republicans?
by Anonymous | reply 148 | November 7, 2019 11:47 AM |
There's no vast conspiracy surrounding the Republicans and Trump. It's very simple –- they want to get reelected and they fear that if they speak out against Trump they won't be. And they're right.
It's difficult for the average person to understand just how craven and power-mad politicians are -- even the least of us have more integrity, decency and conviction than the typical pol.

Graham gave himself to Trump before McCain deceased. That first golf outing Graham had with Trump solidified Graham becoming an unwavering devotee to the Trump & Putin camp. What was said? Don't kid yourself about Bloomberg. I'm amazed how many people on DL are singing his praises. I can only conclude that he's been overrated because he seemed so much better than both his predecessor Giuliani and our current mayor DeBlasio. Some people in NYC seem to forget that he made the city even more "attractive" to developers which has turned Manhattan and most of Brooklyn into generally unaffordable areas. His administration is one reason why NYC has become a prime example of the incredible income gap. Plus he let many union contracts expire and many weren't renewed until after he left office - he basically kicked the can down the road.
This man is no more an ally of middle-class and blue-collar people than Trump is, or the GOP. He's just a lot smarter and craftier, with a gift for good optics. But he's an autocrat which anyone who worked for Bloomberg can tell you, and we don't need another one of those. And you can bet he won't be supportive of any attempt to reverse or even amend the GOP tax bill that is driving up the national deficit (any more than Tom Steyer would).
The one thing Bloomberg has going for him in the primary is his support of gun control.

“And look, Norah, impeachment is like the death penalty for a public official. But it wasn’t some throw-away line in a call. It was part of a much larger conspiracy to bribe and extort the President of Ukraine using taxpayer dollars to benefit tRump’s political campaign. That should become apparent in the public hearings, and, as a result, it will become much more difficult to dismiss the crimes because the whistleblower is anonymous, or partisan, or first went to as Schiff’s staff, or some other cockamamie reason that is completely irrelevant to the question at hand. It is clear that Cheatolini and Ghouliani were planning this crime for quite some time. The Repukes are attempting to overlook that evidence — at their peril.

I bet some of the repubs will just make statements next week about how the process is unfair and a sham because they aren't being allowed to question "the real witnesses to a crime"

for whatever reason this week impeachment polling is slightly down. I hope it goes up again

House Republicans released a wish list Saturday morning of witnesses they’d like to see testify when Congress holds its first public hearings on President Donald Trump’s “perfect” call with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelinsky next week. Not surprisingly, most of them have nothing to do with the impropriety of the call itself.
House Democrats control the impeachment inquiry process but asked for Republican input on potential witnesses last week. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the highest-ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee that will be leading the public impeachment inquiry, sent the list to Democratic chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), along with a lengthy letter complaining about the unfairness of the inquiry to Trump. Nunes, who has long been one of Trump’s most ardent defenders, described the process thus far as “opaque and unfair,” writing, “Your actions have great damaged the integrity of the Intelligence Committee and any legitimacy of your ‘impeachment inquiry.”
While House Democrats have said they want to hear from key diplomatic personnel who may have been involved with the quid pro quo arrangement, in which Trump tried to use the threat of withholding American support for the beleaguered nation in its ongoing dispute with Russia in exchange for the Ukrainian president promising to investigate the son of former vice president Joe Biden. After initially objecting to the notion that there was such an arrangement, the GOP has now more or less acknowledged it occurred but insists that it was not improper. Nunes’ proposed witness list seems designed mostly to make the case against Hunter Biden and, of course, Hillary Clinton.

According to the AP, Bolton got a $2 million advance from Simon & Schuster, and while it’s not clear what he will say in the book, the price tag suggests it will be a pretty juicy story.
CNN says according to one source the book will come out sometime in 2020 before the presidential election.

BTW, Mulvaney is very close to the Kushners, Stephen Miller faction. If he's feeling the need to cover himself then the situation is deteriorating and they are reaching into the inner circle for patsies.
As we’ve noted before, Parnas and Fruman were hunting on Giuliani’s behalf in Ukraine for people ready to work on Trump’s behalf in the 2020 presidential election. They were simultaneously trying to get hired to provide access to Trump’s inner circle and make big money doing it. They eventually got an arrangement like this put together with Dmitry Firtash, the exiled oligarch who has been cooling his heels in Vienna for the last five years fighting extradition to the United States. That’s how Joe DiGenova and Victoria Toensing got involved. But he wasn’t the only one they went to. Giuliani actually said that he “looked at maybe 20 of these oligarchs” looking for partners.
One of these seems to have been another major oligarch named Igor (Ihor) Kolomoisky. He’s one of the top five oligarchs in the country along with Firtash. He’s notable for a number of reasons, not least of which is that he was one of Zelensky’s top backers during his rapid rise to power in late 2018 and early 2019. One of the big questions surrounding Zelensky since he was inaugurated is whether he will follow the normal pattern of protecting his oligarch patron (contrary to his anti-corruption platform) or allow Kolomoisky’s various legal/financial travails to play themselves out.
Parnas and Fruman went to Kolomoisky first or at least earlier and basically hit him up for money, portraying themselves as gatekeepers to the Trump inner circle, via Giuliani. Looking for players who could get Trump his deliverables appears to have been part of the equation too, though that part is more murky. A key ask was an introduction to Zelensky, just elected Ukraine’s next President but not yet inaugurated. Kolomoisky was known to be a major backer of the incoming President. So that made sense. And given Giuliani’s and Trump’s interest in Biden and the 2016 election, he’d be a key person to strike up a relationship with.
But Kolomoisky basically told them to screw off.
This blow up immediately preceded Giuliani’s going on Twitter and claiming that Zelensky and his entourage were made up of anti-Trump forces and specifically calling out Kolomoisky as one of Ukraine’s bad guys. Presumably the the blow up triggered Rudy’s tweet storming.
Parnas and Fruman filed a lawsuit in Ukraine claiming that Kolomoisky had threatened to have them killed, demanding millions of dollars in damages and (in the context of Ukraine’s legal system) pressing to have Kolomoisky investigated.
It was this legal action that they were heading to Ukraine to meet with investigators about. And it seems, though this is not 100% clear, that Giuliani was going to rendezvous with them to be there for that.
If you haven’t, read Josh’s story. The greater context, though, is illustrating the various rackets and and shakedowns the three men were pursuing in Ukraine to get Trump his deliverables and make Parnas, Fruman and Giuliani a lot of money.
"Josh's story," mentioned in that last paragraph, is not behind a paywall and is linked below.

CBS:
Haley remains a fierce Trump loyalist, including on the issue of his asking the Ukrainian president to dig for dirt on the family of Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
O'Donnell said, "The president asked for a favor in the transcript. Is it appropriate for the president to ask for a foreign government to interfere in a U.S. election?"
"Ukraine didn't do the favor," Haley responded. "And the president released the money anyway."
"So, that absolves him?" asked O'Donnell.
"I don't think it's good for us to ever want a foreign country to investigate an American. I'll always say that. That's just not something we wanna get into the practice of doing," Haley said. "So, no, I don't feel comfortable with that. But I also don't feel comfortable with the fact that we're having an impeachment process during an election year."
O'Donnell asked, "Do you think ultimately the president will be impeached and removed from office?"
"No. On what? You're gonna impeach a president for asking for a favor that didn't happen and giving money and it wasn't withheld? I don't know what you would impeach him on. And look, Norah, impeachment is, like, the death penalty for a public official. When you look at the transcript, there's nothing in that transcript that warrants the death penalty for the president."

Does anyone remember the timeline? I thought Chris Wallace interviewed someone and said during that interview that the aid was only released shortly after the WH learned about the WB's complaint. This would make a big difference bc Trump only released it after they learned that someone was about to make his extortion attempts public. Has anyone also seen this interview or remember the timeline?
by Anonymous | reply 444 | November 10, 2019 8:46 PM |
My recollection R444 is that members of Congress (including some in the GOP) heard about the aid being withheld and flew into a rage at the WH. Can't recall if that was due to the WB (who's complaint was initially deep-sixed by Barr) or through other sources, but there's certainly a connection with the timing of Congress confronting the President and the emergence of the WB complaint.

Ok, I found the interview in my YouTube history. It was from Chris Wallace's interview with Kellyanne Conway. They withheld the aid all summer and on Sept 9 they learnt about the WB's complaint and the aid was suddenly released on Sept 11. So the Republicans argument here that they got the aid anyway is total bs. Trump ONLY released the funds after he found out about the WB's complaint and it wasn't bc he decided he no longer wanted Ukrainians to investigate the Biden's or there really never was a quid pro quo. He only released it bc he/they knew shit has hit the fan. Conway of course denied that these events are related. Schiff should find a witness who can testify why they suddenly released the aid on Sept 11.
Important part starts at 8:20.
Why isn't CNN et al reporting this timeline 24/7 when Republicans repeat their lies that Ukraine got their funds anyway and without any conditions?

Trump's releasing the reconstructed transcript of the innocuous call to Ukraine - the one congratulating the new leader on his election - on Tuesday. Transparently obvious that he's doing it to get some good press+provide a talking point for right wing media to crow about that transcript (which I'm sure they will read in full and blast endlessly) to try to confuse the public about the actual transcript.
No one has been asking for this transcript to be released, because it's irrelevant, despite what Trump says.
The Republicans during the hearings will likely reference THAT transcript, in an attempt to confuse the American people, too.

[bold]Donald Trump Jr walks out of Triggered book launch after heckling – from supporters[/bold]
Donald Trump Jr ventured on to the University of California’s overwhelmingly liberal Los Angeles campus on Sunday, hoping to prove what he had just argued in his book – that a hate-filled American left was hell-bent on silencing him and anyone else who supported the Trump presidency.
But the appearance backfired when his own supporters, diehard Make America Great Again conservatives, raised their voices most loudly in protest and ended up drowning him out barely 20 minutes into an event scheduled to last two hours.
The audience was angry that Trump Jr and his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, would not take questions. The loud shouts of “USA! USA!” that greeted Trump when he first appeared on the stage of a university lecture hall to promote his book Triggered: How The Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us quickly morphed into even louder, openly hostile chants of “Q and A! Q and A!”
The 450-strong audience had just been told they would not be allowed to ask questions, “due to time constraints”.
At first, Trump and Guilfoyle tried to ignore the discontent, which originated with a fringe group of America Firsters who believe the Trump administration has been taken captive by a cabal of internationalists, free-traders, and apologists for mass immigration.
When the shouting would not subside, Trump Jr tried – and failed – to argue that taking questions from the floor risked creating soundbites that leftwing social media posters would abuse and distort. Nobody was buying that.
In minutes, the entire argument put forward by the president’s son – that he was willing to engage in dialogue but that it was the left that refused to tolerate free speech – crumbled....

Remember, Bill Clinton's impeachment started with Whitewater and evolved into something else.
"Independent counsel investigation
The charges arose from an investigation by Ken Starr, an Independent Counsel. With the approval of United States Attorney General Janet Reno, Starr conducted a wide-ranging investigation of alleged abuses, including the Whitewater controversy, the firing of White House travel agents, and the alleged misuse of FBI files."
I'm hoping a Pandora's Box will open as people start testifying.
We don't need 'public support' to impeach a President. We're not going to the polls to decide this. His crimes and how they are exposed, prosecuted, etc. is out of our hands- and into the hands of those we elect and pay to do these things for us.
It won't 'tear the country apart!' because frankly (sadly?) most people don't give a shit.

The [bold]Nikki Haley reveal[/bold] is both unexpected yet easy to trace.
1---Initially Haley was seen as rising star among the big-tent GOPers. A woman of color elected to the governorship of Southern state. Well-respected (/s) talent recruiter Bill Kristol sang her praises. (He also discovered Sarah Palin)
2---During the black church shooting in Charleston, Haley did some symbolic stuff, like taking the down the Confederate flag, being polite to Obama, etc.
3---She was named US UN Ambassador with NO foreign policy experience. Yet she followed Pence in turning her back at the RU Foreign Minister at the UN. She appeared to commiserate with Kelly during Trump's ridiculous speeches.
Though there were rumors that she spent time with Trump getting special mentoring, trying to understand him, etc. The kindest interpretation is she just listened to the logorrhea hoping to discern a few morsels of thought.
After Khassoghi's murder, she resigned immediately and gave a craven speech on TV telling Trump how great he is and how Kushner is a genius.
She went a speaking tour at $200K a pop, to help Senators like Joni Ernst form IA who are vulnerable. The speaking fees are paid out one of Trump's PACs.
She moved into a huge, beautiful new house.
Now she's hawking book defending Trump and appears on T.V defending him.
I wonder what happened?

Interesting to see the GOP starting to pivot in TV interviews towards making Giuliani/Mulvaney/Sondland the fall guys for Trump. They cooked up the scheme and poor innocent Trump didn't know he was doing anything wrong. This could, and probably will, backfire spectacularly. None of those guys want to be left holding the bag, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see Mulvaney flip soon. Seeing him glom onto the Bolton/Kupperman lawsuit was interesting to say the least. This could be VERY bad for Trump as the rats flee the sinking ship... fingers crossed!

Throwing Giuliani, etc. under the bus has been predicted as one of the endgames in all this.
It would be one of the final moves, though, because they could sing loud about a lot and bring Trump down with them.

R523 Goddamn it. Every time he gets in front of a microphone he should have to answer questions about it and compare him to Katie Hill. if he were ANY democrat, It's all we would be hearing about. "Mr. Jordan, another witness has come forward with testimony that you were aware of the drugging and raping of young men under your care. This is the second person with direct knowledge of the crimes. Why did you ignore the complaints of a rape victim who came to you for help?
Can someone please ask him this question the next time he starts jizzing in to the microphone?
Why the fuck don't democrats mention the "Hastert Rule" every chance they get. That;s all we fucking heard about during the John Boner reign.
When Repubs cry "Impeachment Unfair", quote Senator Larry Craig who impeached Bill Clinton for being a "very bad , nasty boy". Remind voters that these people are evil.

Rudy has been on Barr's hit list for a few months now. Maybe even since the first of the year. And Mulvaney is very expendable. IMO the person who will also cause trouble, though not nearly as bad as RUdy, is Sondland. He's no Trump loyalist, never was. It's strictly transactional and he will not allow Trump to throw him under the bus. His wife is an active Democrat. I don't think Mulvaney is going to be quiet either. Trump needs to be real careful, needs to watch his mouth....but he won't and neither Barr nor Pompeo will be able to rein him in too much.
Time to make the popcorn!

by Anonymous | reply 550 | November 12, 2019 1:35 AM |
I hope as Trump goes down he takes a bunch of Republicans with him. He has no affection for them; most didn't want him to be POTUS anyway, and said so. He'll tattle to deflect the blame off himself.
All I've read so far is impeachable. Certainly if Hillary did even a fraction of these things, they'd run her out of town on a rail.
Ironic isn't it? That the Repugs were going to spend 4 years trying to impeach Clinton- but it's Trump who'd going down.

Yeah, I've seen some if it. He sounded sympathetic when answering the woman's question on health care, and he's been bringing in his own family story about the loss of his first wife & child in a car accident.

He doesn't care. As long as people are talking about him he's happy. He's afraid he'll disappear, like when his family put him in military school from puberty to adulthood to get rid of him.
He wont stop tweeting or having rallies after he's out of office, either. He'll be yelping for years because he's addicted to attention.
